Always thinking about a genre aware Maglor kidnapping the twins as a particularly self-destructive way of escaping the story he’s trapped in. I think he’d absolutely be the type of person to appreciate the supposed “poetic justice” of his “foster sons” eventually killing him—it would strike a nice balance between satisfying the “audience,” aka whatever part of him that believes it would be appropriate for him to have such a cruel end, and establishing that he wasn’t pure evil despite everything (the children he raised destroyed him = he had enough decency to raise them to be capable of striking him down).
Even if the twins’ own ideas about the concept of kinslaying would inhibit them from giving him a “clean end,” an absolute exit from the story, he spends his days during and after the War of Wrath secretly hoping for some kind of recompense from them. A singer views the world in terms of linear stories, requiring endings to give it meaning. He orphaned the twins and raised them to stand up for themselves, he taught them everything he knew, surely they will repay him by making him into a defeated villain and thus finally introducing some degree of fairness into his life-narrative?
(But Elros could never confine himself to rules and conventions, and Elrond hasn’t spent years teaching himself to be a healer only to be trapped in the avenging-angel role that his captor/mentor has ascribed to him. The next time they meet, a sizeable part of his initial kindness stems from spite. Maglor took the twins because he was looking for a sufficiently poetic end. Elrond feels sorry for him, but he also adamantly refuses to give him any of the satisfaction.)

I don't know how I'd ever convey this in art but. Thinking very deeply about how in boy king au, a very crucial part of characterization is that Seb is a wolf in sheep(or lamb more specifically)'s clothing and Fernando is a sheep in wolf's clothing.
Seb is very unassuming, very delicate, seemingly very vulnerable and malleable. But, deep down, he can be very ruthless. It's in the the way he hesitantly declares war, with a spark in his eye and a suppressed smirk. In the way he challenges someone to a card game or a horse race, proclaiming that he's not great, but winning every round and prancing around the room and mentioning it ad infinitum. The way he's able to instantly turn the tide in a debate in one fell swoop. By showing all his cards constantly and letting himself be vulnerable, he's making himself invulnerable. No one would ever consider him to be able to make big moves, so he wins every single time, because no one even thinks to expect it from him.
Fernando on the other hand, is constantly committed to having a looming presence and harsh reputation, but deep down, he's soft. He knows what happens to people when they're vulnerable, and he's not going to let himself be taken advantage of. The way he keeps a brave face when being informed of the marriage proposal, but goes back to his room and cries. The way he proclaims that he was always going to be the rightful ruler of Spain, but confides to Flavio that he never thought there was any real chance of it ever happening. The way he takes himself so seriously in public, but inside feels so giddy whenever he can make someone laugh. Everything to him always feels unstable and ready to crumble at any moment, and he's not willing to contribute to that by letting himself relax.
I think thats why it's very difficult for them to get along at first, because they have completely different approaches to how they carry themselves and make their way through life. Seb is confused at Fernando because he feels that he's very bland and overly serious at first, but truthfully he's not really seeing the actual Fernando. And Fernando finds Seb to be naive and easily taken advantage of, but that's because he's never seen Seb at his most cruel. Seb really loves when he eventually gets to see Fernando being vulnerable, and Fernando really admires and respects Seb when he sees him being serious. I think it just takes a while for them to show the other their full and complete selves, even the parts they can sometimes be ashamed of. There's this very compelling dichotomy in Seb laying out all his cards, but still being very difficult to read, and Fernando keeping his cards to his chest, but his intentions often being easily seen through.

Rewatching a playthrough of Danganronpa and it actually shocks me how chill Monokuma is. Even when Kyoko goes around stealing his shit and he finds Makoto with it later he's like. Yeah okay. I don't hold it against you or anything it's cool. LMAO
He has every available opportunity to just kill everyone whenever, especially when they break the rules, but he never does. I really love villains who stick to their own rules so it's fair for everyone else :")

ms. moiraine wheel of time really does make me feel like my brain is getting tossed around the trunk of a monster truck lmao
throughout the series you have all these characters going "woe is me, i am trapped by destiny and fate i cannot escape the narrative of my life 😔" (justifiably) and then moiraine is literally like. sorry im built different and becomes the only character to actually manage to CHANGE her destiny and avoid the life she didn't want aka she runs away from being placed on the sun throne, but in doing that she ends up on an even wilder, more complicated life path dictated largely by outside forces
like she manages to give fate the run around, but at the same time escaping the sun throne is the exact thing that sets her up to hunt down the dragon reborn. it's just so neat that a story about how being "the chosen one" or whatever sucks and severely limits the kind of life u get to have gets kicked off in part bc of one oddball woman's choice and agency
and i haven't even touched all the ancestral legacy and guilt stuff with laman etc!!!! aka every step taken by people before she was born set her in the exact right place to end up finding rand!!! did she even get to make a real choice in the end!!!
she's trapped in never ending circles......wheels even........

y'know, i keep making a habit of swinging my bat at hornets nests, but i have to say i'm getting so, so tired of people complaining about shows not making perfect sense when they aren't even close to done. we're four episodes into this season of doctor who. we're four episodes into this season of bridgerton. and yet in both fandoms i keep seeing people whine that such and such didn't make sense or it wasn't explained all the way and by god you guys i think maybe explanations might come later in the season. this is something most viewers will recognize as being called a 'plot.'

something something piper mclean's "i'm not like other girls" mentality could possibly be the result of her growing up both in and apart of hollywood due to her father's career and her, as a woc, not being able to relate with the heavily stereotyped, oversexualized, and majority white portrayal of women put out by the usamerican film industry. also considering in the fact that native american women experience significantly higher homicide and sexual violence rates when compared to the national average and that her rejecting "traditional femininity" and purposefully trying to appear less "conventionally attractive" isn't necessarily her being against girls who do subscribe to these conventions, but could be interpreted as a means of self defense against a cruel and unforgiving society and her place in it as an indigenous woman.

Puck/Kurt, Samcedes, Sam/Kurt for the ask game?
Puckurt probably makes the least amount of sense like idk obviously I find them compelling but we're also just working with a handful of crumbs and a metric shitton of fanon here. But yeah idk I still like them uwu
Samcedes is a surprising pair but I think it makes sense and they're good and cute together and I'm happy for most of their canon moments but idk I'm just not crazy about them
Hevans again I'm not crazy about but I do like their friendship and could understand shipping them under like very specific scenarios just for a limited time lol but that's how it is with any nonKlaine Kurt or Blaine ship sooo....
send me a ship!

I hope you don't mind the influx of GG/Dorothy asks you've gotten because I really love your takes and your fics really touch upon a more vulnerable part of Dorothy that I feel was rarely fully explored but was very much present. I was watching recently an ep where Dorothy says she thought her father didn't like her or love her and Sophia cracked that he always talked her up ... to try and sell her to gypsies. Dorothy says "do you know how much that hurts me when you say things like that?". It's one of those lines that's never really followed up on or given a big moment but it stays with me.
Not at all!! I love hearing from you! <3 (and if you ever feel up to it, feel free to send me a dm as well! I'd love to hear more of your thoughts!)
Thank you so much :') I started writing Golden Girls fics precisely for that reason: Dorothy's vulnerability is left so underexplored in the show, even in the moments that (in my opinion, anyway!) presented the perfect opportunity to delve a little deeper into her feelings. I had to give her a moment to shine haha.
That line is the perfect example of what I'm talking about, actually! They throw in those really poignant lines or moments (or even just looks, at times) that hint at so much going on beneath the surface, but it's never expanded on. The only emotional moments she does get, that are fully followed up on, are those relating to Stan -- and even there I feel like a lot is glossed over (often by Dorothy herself, first and foremost).
I could probably write an essay on this but I'll spare you, but I think Sophia's often treated much the same -- if slightly differently -- in the show! And I mean, considering she raised Dorothy, I'm pretty sure she inadvertently ended up teaching Dorothy that covering up your vulnerability is the only way to deal with it. Sophia covers her feelings with quips and jokes, Dorothy does it through dismissal.
And because both of their methods for covering up are very convenient for a sitcom (I can drag Blanche into this as well, by the way. But I promised not to write an essay) it's *so easy* for the narrative to just. go along with their own dismissal of their feelings. Have Sophia distract from her feelings with a funny joke, and the audience is on the floor. Have Dorothy dismiss her feelings with a Look, and there's another opening for someone else to keep up the pace and move the scene along into lighter territory.

Honest thoughts on Lonnie + family?
@cleverqueenchild God, I love Mulan, so I was hoping for more with Lonnie's character, but I don't dislike her by any means. She's easily my favourite AK. I headcanon her a lesbian and girlfriends with Jane, which I think is a really cute little ship. I also like to think that she'd be best friends with Jay, so she hangs out in Jay and Carlos' dorm a lot.
As for her family, I tend to forget she has a brother, which is a mercy since every time I remember the name "Li'l Shang," I want to bury my face in my hands, which is all the comment I have on that djakgjdksg
Overall, great concept, mediocre execution. She deserved better, but so did every single character in the franchise, what can you do lmao
