Very happy to share my @mdzsrbb fic prompted by and featuring the gorgeous art of @secretlyaraven A 'Wei Wuxian raised by Baoshan Sanren' AU featuring Cloud Recesses shenanigans and Lan Wangji's increasingly petty internal narration.

He pulled the door open smoothly, leaving the noisemaker with their fist still raised mid-knock.  He could glimpse white robes underneath a thick and practical-looking travel cloak, but surely no member of his sect would think to barge in upon him in such a way.

“Hello!” the interloper exclaimed, a bright smile coming into view as he lifted the sopping veils away to one side. “Would you happen to know how to reach the Cloud Recesses?”

A teenage Wei Wuxian arrives at the Lan sect as a (mostly) respected disciple of the Immortal Baoshan Sanren instead of the well-known troublemaker of Yunmeng Jiang. Lan Wangji learns to come to terms with this (eventually).

My first entry for @mdzsrbb is up!! I drew this hoping someone would write me a Nirvana in Fire AU and Andraste delivered in spades >>>

“No, Wei-tongling; or, at least, not one that I am aware of.”

“That doesn’t seem right. The sight of a heroic last stand deserves to have a name – something that will sound good in the history books.” Wei Wuxian looked around, his eyes moving from man to horse to tent, as if cataloguing everything before it was lost. “I’m going to call it Luanzang Hill. What do you think?”

Ouyang Zizhen shivered. “Don’t you think that’s a little…morbid?”

“Morbid? Not at all.” Wei Wuxian tightened his grip on the hilt of his sword, knuckles pushing whitely through the skin. “I think it’s very fitting. Unless this new strategist the Emperor has sent for can work some kind of miracle, we are all going to die here.”

They’re a ragged bunch when they arrive at the borders of Cloud Recesses. If Lan Wangji hadn’t been there when they arrived, they might have been turned away. Their clothes are in tatters; they all look exhausted, sick, and pale. Wei Wuxian is barely able to swim, his inky black conch shell clutched tight in bloodless fingers, his skin almost translucent like a creature of the deep water where the sun doesn’t reach. An aura of resentment clings to them, floating in dark wisps in the water but not dissipating.

The Wen are forced to flee the Burial Reef. Wei Wuxian seeks refuge from the Lan, but the price for their safety is not what he imagined.
