#silvacre #suranne jones #rose leslie #vigil #the bbc making a silvacre fan edit was a pleasant surprise :) #i saw the streaming numbers for vigil 2 were very good (understatement) #which makes an s3 at least a possibility #if they can write a story suranne and rose would sign on for #i'm counting on what suranne said that the continuation of the love story is a big part of what brought her back #the series does a good job creating dramatic tension and conflict within a happy relationship that doesn't involve cheating or one dying #if they do a 3rd season i hope that continues #i mean the series started with amy in the worst possible place emotionally and psychologically so surely they wouldn't go there again #s2 with its wlw mlm solidarity/parallel storyline and giving us more insight into amy and how far she's come since s1 #on top of all the other things i liked this season (which i enjoyed quite a bit in addition to the ship) #at heart it's very critical of the british government and military/war machine and some reviews seem to have missed that part #anyway i'm pleased as punch that a prestige bbc drama has two women in love at its center and a lead as compelling as amy #and that it's pulling in the numbers even without the submarine and claustrophobia (admittedly a cool premise) #keep making the fanvids bbc social media team we appreciate you #queue

im organizing my playlists of liked videos on youtube for the fun of it which means im seeing a lot of videos (my youtube watching career is almost solely watching fanvids jsyk) i havent seen in a while and ummm.

its so fun seeing a video for the first time in a while, getting excited bc i REMEMBER when that creator posted that video, how exciting, i think i was in high school when i saw that the first time and then youtube the bitch decides to hit me with "TEN YEARS AGO" like did i ask??? no i didnt!

"i'm struggling to find gifs" "why can't i find gifs of this scene or this show" "why are less people taking requests"

you repost to twitter, to pinterest, to instagram, to tiktok and lord knows what else. on twitter, a single gif taken from a gifset that didn't even receive 1k notes (not 1k likes or even 1k rbs, if that even exists these days) can get 3m views and 30k+ likes. without credit, of course - if you're lucky, you get a mispelled: made by x on tumblr, no link of course.

hell, you repost on this very site and you refuse to listen. your set, stolen from someone else and mixed in with quotes, gets 1k notes meanwhile the original sits at less than 500. you do not credit the person who made it.

we ask you to reblog things instead of liking them and you go on rants about how it's unnecessary and how we should do it for fun. we explain a hundred times that tumblr doesn't work the way other social media platforms work, but you refuse. you wonder why there are less gifmakers.

gifs don't take 10 seconds like on ezgif or imgflip or whatever the hell you're using. it takes hours sometimes to even download footage, but you don't care. it's a moving image that we "stole" (?) from the original work but the labour? you don't care. depending on our process, it can take from half an hour (the downloading and the editing part) to hours upon hours. but who cares.

you credit text posts, fanvids, and you go after those who steal written work (as you should). we cannot even get other gifmakers to care when our stuff is stolen. staff took away our only tool to fight reposters on this site, and we never had any to fight reposting to other sites.

we know what the staff is aiming at with the changes they make and the changes they refuse to make - we explain that why disabling likes would help, they say they will not do it. they cannot slap an @ onto gifs when saved to prevent stealing but boy, look at the shiny new editor that adds an additional least 5 minutes to upload your gifs! again, intention is very clear.

we know you don't steal gifs under a certain quality and we know you ask us for requests for scenes/parallels that have been done because you do not like the quality of those. we see you stealing quality sets.

there is no point to this i just needed to vent. staff is disregarding the very foundation of this site, gifmakers are given less and less respect and you wonder why scenes aren't giffed.

The other day, I wrote a post where I used the word "producers" when what I really wanted to use was "the powers that be" because I feel like I rarely hear people refer to TPTB anymore. These days, it feels like I more often see people discussing named individuals such as writers, producers, directors, or studio heads.

I kind of miss the vagueness of TPTB. It's a phrase that evokes that faceless power of a corporate overlord, delivering edicts from on high regardless of what any particular fan or fandom wants. The Powers That Be are uncaring. Immovable. Implacable. They can't be wheedled or cajoled into changing their mind. They can't be bullied or harassed.

As a phrase, it also feels more accurate to the actual relationship at play. Fans don't actually have any power when it comes to decisions about our favourite media. We can vote in contests or try to boost numbers here or there, but ultimately that isn't what matters to TPTB. They make their decisions based on metrics that are in such opposition to how we base ours - they might as well be from another planet.

I think another reason I miss using that term is that it removed the illusion that we could do anything to influence canon. They gave us whatever they decided we'd get, and we'd make our stories and art and fanvids etc. in conversation or opposition to it.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic on a Tuesday night. But maybe I'll also start thinking about the powers that be again too.

We are officially just a week out from the start of theme voting (!!!), so here’s some important information regarding this event!

So, what is a bang?

A bang is a type of fan challenge in which writers and artists work together to produce new collaborative content for the fandom.

In a reverse bang, the artist signs up first and creates a sketch, and the writer claims the person they want to write for based on the sketch and summary the artists provide.

This year we will have an optional theme which you will be able to vote on!

Who can join?

The event is open to artists and writers of all abilities in any stage of their fandom journey –  a fun opportunity for Kaishin shippers to come together and celebrate the relationship between Kudou Shinichi and Kuroba Kaito in all its variations.

What kinds of fanworks are accepted?
