Responsible, reflective and respectful – Lessons from the Lionesses

It is always a joy to have pupils back in school! I have enjoyed visiting a few lessons over the last couple of days and I am looking forward to the Shell Olympics tomorrow morning.

One of the highlights of my summer was watching the Lionesses as they finished runners-up in the World Cup. Of course, like an external exam, the World Cup finals were the culmination of many years’ hard work and practice.

I was particularly impressed with Sarina Wiegman, the Head Coach, in the way that she brought the team together. She had integrity throughout and this continued after the tournament. Within the team, the behaviour expectations and standards were clear. Everyone bought into what Wiegman was expecting, and they expected it of each other. Each player took responsibility for their actions and understood the role they needed to play.

Secondly, players were allowed to make mistakes and grow – a culture that said to try things out and to make mistakes in front of each other. They understood that set-backs are a part of life, and it is how we respond to these that helps us learn. This ability to reflect allowed the team to continue to develop and improve.

Finally, they remained humble and have frequently cited their gratitude for the many people who went before them to make their success a reality.

They may have lost the final, but there were many positives that we can take from their performance in the Euros last year and the World Cup this summer. The three values above are the same ones that I mentioned in my start of term letter. Being responsible, being reflective and being respectful are key ingredients to success and this will be a theme we will keep returning to this year.

Someone who mostly practices energy work, astral travel, and spirit work.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how there are many people I know (some witches, some not) who primarily focus on energy work, spirit work, and astral travel/projection.These three areas of magic are very closely interrelated and it’s extremely common for someone who develops skills in one of those areas to then go on to develop skills in the other areas. 

In the astral you tend to meet spirits, so astral travelers are often spirit workers too. When you meet spirits or astral travel, you need to protect yourself and sometimes work other magic on the fly and read energy. So energy work is also super common for spirit workers and astral travelers. Thus, the trifecta!

I was talking about this on @witchy-woman ‘s T&T server with @raes-wonderland and some others, when @magickpixie mentioned that they have the metaphysical realm all in common. So the word METAWORKER popped into my head.

There are sooooo many types of witches, which is great, but I notice that a lot of people heavily involved with spirit work, energy work, and astral travel aren’t necessarily all witches either. Let’s make this a new general magic term yall!

We have made it! This summer was long, but this morning both kids off to school!!!! Yeah🙌🏼🙌🏼. This year my kids are both in the same specialist #autismschool . We have done mainstream, it is not for us🤔. Granted yesterday on the way to pick her up (she's doing half days ATM) I was in 😭 thinking of all the things she's going to miss out on in mainstream, BUT I know we made the only real decision we could. And that was to fight tooth and nail to get her somewhere that celebrates her strengths. That is able to take her on school trips and take part in sports day, and sit in an actual classroom , and hopefully learn to LOVE school, and LOVE learning.
