Chapter 4 - the calm before the storm

warnings: this is a yandere story so there is going to be blood and death, MDI 18+ only, like the title chapter says, next chapter is going to be crazy so hopefully I can write and edit it in a timely manner.

Katsuki is a pretty quiet person when he was off duty, or at least, he is doing so right now. You and Katsuki sat down at a small round table in the middle of this giant room. The ceiling had to be at least 10 feet tall and the walls were probably around 15 feet wide. The room was decorated top to bottom in red, gold, and orange. A large golden chandler hangs above the table, giving the room dim lighting, light enough to see each other but still dark enough for a romantic setting.

After ordering, Katsuki got straight to the point “Look, I hate beating around the bush so I'm just going to say it. Do you want a relationship with me, or not?” He said it like it was no big deal, like the answer was so simple.

“I…” you started but the words quickly died in your throat as Katsuki locked eyes with you, it felt like he was looking into your soul. “I am willing to try if you are.” you gave him an anxious smile, you liked him for sure but you have seen and heard from Mina how the media can make or break a relationship, and personally you don’t know if you're cut out for the spotlight.

“...what kind of crap is that? I asked you a simple yes or no question, so tell me yes or no. don’t make things complicated when they aren’t.”

"..."

“Sorry, I don’t mean it like that. I…” you took a deep breath. You're okay, you're okay. “Yes, I would like to be your… girlfriend.” If things didn’t work out you could always break up with him. “But I would like to lay down some ground rules if that is alright with you.”

Katsuki shot you a smirk “Of course but I have a few rules of my own, first and foremost, with me being a hero I am pretty busy with an unpredictable schedule. Dates would be hard to plan ahead for me, are you okay with last minute dates?”

“Yeah, that is okay with me as long as they're not over-the-top dates.” Katsuki nods his head. “Also is it okay if we keep our relationship on the private side of things.”

“Why? You scared you’ll have to fight my fans for my attention?” he teased you, which made you feel giddier for some reason.

You shook your head “No, no, I just like some privacy is all.”

“Well dating a pro hero let alone the number two Hero, doesn’t come with privacy, we can try if you want us to but I’m pretty sure my PR manager will still want us to either share social media or have access to yours.”

“Okay, I will call him tomorrow about it.” Oh boy, you have to delete a lot of stuff off your account before anyone has access to it. “So…” you look up at Katsuki “Is there anything else you would like to talk about.”

Katsuki grabbed your hand, rubbing his thumb over your knuckles. “I can think of a few thin-” but before Katsuki could finish his sentence the waitress from before opened the door with your guy's orders in hand. Katsuki tsked as lets go of your hand and picks up his chopstick.

The rest of the night you and Katsuki got to know each other on a more personal level. Like talking about each other's quirks, his explosive sweat, and your light quirk. Katsuki seems to be really interested to hear yours even though it’s not very extraordinary or useful in most situations. You can produce a small amount of blue light, that is how you got your nickname from Mina. You never need a flashlight and if you're ever in trouble in the dark you can always send out an emergency signal.

Katsuki did take you back home and true to your word you called up Botan, his PR manager about your public appearances/social media. The next 3 weeks haven’t seemed that eventful, you and Katsuki talked when you could, sometimes you ended up falling asleep during the call because of how late you guys talked. His friend's group (Otherwise known as the BakuSquad according to his fanbase) also helped you out from time to time, Pinky especially.

Just like Katsuki said, you guys didn’t have many traditional dates, and a lot of them were just the two of you talking or watching shows together. Speaking of Katsuki should be over any minute now, it would be the first time he would be in your small apartment so you took extra time to clean and set up this week. You even got some of his favorite spicy chips and snacks, according to Denki and Enjiro anyways.

A heavy knocking at your door grabs your attention, you, not so gracefully, jogged to and opened your door to a disgruntled-looking blonde. Katsuki was wearing his usual civilian clothes, a black t-shirt, dark blue jeans, and the nicest leather shoes you have ever seen. You greeted him with a big hug, which he immediately gave back, and a small kiss on his cheek. “Welcome C4, how was the drive?”

With pink cheeks, he replied “It wasn’t bad, just not good either. How was work? They haven’t given you trouble, have they sparkle?”

You pulled yourself out of his arms, and playfully punched him in the shoulder. “No they haven’t, and I told you to not use that nickname! I don’t sparkle.”

Katsuki laughs “And yet, you keep calling me by the wrong explosive, my sweat is close to nitroglycerin, not C4, firefly.”

You shook your head and graded his hand, “Same difference” you led him to your couch in the living room. “What movie do you want to watch?” Usually Katsuki had you pick what you guys would watch but you wanted him to pick this time since anything you picked didn’t seem to interest him much.

“I’m good with whatever.” he said as he looked around the room. There wasn't much to look at, a good but old purple plaid couch with a miss-match throw pillow.

You set down and poured both of you a drink, a glass of water to start the night. “Are you sure, you keep spacing out or not paying attention. If you don’t want to watch something you could tell me, I’m good with anything, really.” You pat the cushion next to you, Katsuki stared at you for a second before sitting down next to you.

"Okay then, but I don’t want to hear any complaints from the peanut gallery.” grabbing the TV remote to change it to Netflix to find something to watch, the movie picks is an old All Might one, you think this was around his silver age.

You silently laugh to yourself, Pinky told you about Katsuki's All Might and Best Jeanist collections so this didn’t surprise you. It made sense why he wants to be the best hero he can be, he wants to be like them.

A thick arm wrapped around your shoulders. “What are you laughing at, firefly?” you smiled at him before turning to the TV.

“I’m not laughing at anyone, Katsuki. I just thinking about a joke Pinky was telling me”

“tsk”

The rest of the night was mostly uneventful for you, unfountenly Katsuki had to leave earlier than expected because of some paperwork he needs to finish for work tomorrow.

Little did you know that this so-called ‘paperwork’ would flip your world upside down.

the fourth panel goes back to the comedic simplified style with all 3 of them, Phoenix is wide eyed and full on blushing, Diego has quickly pulled his hand back while also blushing and a creased brow but is trying to play it cool with a smile, and Trucy is behind Diego also with wide eyes and her mouth in a straight line. Diego plays it off, stating: "woops - apologies, hand slipped, anyway-" with his speech bubble captioned with 'smooth recovery!!'.

the final panel is like the 4th but bigger and back to being drawn with more detail. Diego is leaning back with his hand close to his own chin again and a pleased smile and blush, slightly sweating from having recovered his slip up; he makes his final positive judgement on the goatee and says "well done! it looks good on you birdie~". Phoenix is still somewhat blushing but he's smiling and leaning back tilted bashfully, responding with "haha, you think? i quite like it myself!" Trucy has put on a calm and friendly smile one her face, but is turning her head to look away and brought her hand up to shield her peripheral view; above her is a faded crudely simplified drawing of her face that reveals her internalized true expression of a stunned grimace. she thinks to herself both impressed and slightly horrified at the outlandish unintentional flirting her father experience with 'wowwww'.

Nancy sends Eddie a video the morning after her monster hunter trio sleepover and Eddie uses it as a background in a Tiktok.

So, he’s wordlessly in the corner of the screen while the video plays. It shows Nancy getting out bed, putting on her sleepers and her robe, and then walking across the hall to the guest room where Steve and Jonathan are asleep at opposite ends of the bed.

Nancy walks to the side of the bed that Steve is sleeping on and taps on the phone laying next to him. The screen lights up and shows that he’s on a call with Eddie that has been going on for the last five hours.

She flips the camera around and says directly to Eddie, “You’re pathetic.”

Nancy’s video ends and Eddie takes up the whole screen of his Tiktok just to say, “I can’t believe this is how I find out that my husband has me in his phone as Eddie Munson.”
