working on a monster high ninjago AU!

the characters are students at monster high and are all different monster species! here’s the ghoul squad (+ some other main characters), nicknamed the ninja by teachers, under the cut:

characters in brackets are who they’re replacing (some have two characters they’re replacing) + info about ships

zane julien: the new ghoul at school. a robot, he can remove his limbs at will (frankie stein/abbie bominable, pixane (pixal x zane))

jay walker: a 1600-year-old anxious, jumpy and somewhat impulsive vegan vampire (draculaura, plasmashipping (kai x jay))

cole brookstone: the overprotective and brave werewolf of the ghoul squad. fashion designer (clawdeen wolf, lost/geodeshipping (cole x geo))

lloyd garmadon: a normie-presenting (a normie is a human in the monster high universe) dragon-oni-human hybrid who initially bullies zane but gradually grows close to him (cleo de nile, aromantic-asexual lloyd, platonic garmagoths (lloyd, harumi and morro))

kai smith: a fire elemental-water monster hybrid (more fire elemental than water monster) and nya’s brother (clawd wolf/heath, plasmashipping)

nya smith: a fire elemental-water monster hybrid (more water monster than fire elemental), the school’s champion swimmer and kai’s sister (lagoona blue, amber phoenix (nya x skylor))

harumi jade: a boogeyman tomboy lesbian biker girl. a good friend of lloyd’s. that’s all i have to say for harumi (deuce gorgon, platonic garmagoths, her and lloyd aren’t dating in this AU)

geo goyle: a gargoyle from screamtaro (the AU equivalent of shintaro) who was shunned for being a hybrid of a geckle and a munce gargoyle (rochelle goyle/neighthan rot, lost/geodeshipping)

p.i.x.a.l. borg: a matchmaking bone elemental-robot hybrid who runs the school’s relationship advice radio show with her boyfriend (c.a. cupid/robecca steam, pixane)

morro: a ghost and the co-manager/co-writer of the school gossip page, the ghostly gossip. one of lloyd’s good friends along with harumi (spectra vondergeist, citrusshipping (morro x echo zane), platonic garmagoths)

echo zane julien/mr. e: a frankenmonster and co-manager/co-writer of the ghostly gossip. when angered, he transforms into mr. e, an overprotective biker. zane’s brother (jackson jekyll & holt hyde, citrusshipping)

vania: a plant monster-ghost hybrid and former princess of screamtaro before she moved to monster high after the whole skull sorcerer thing (venus mcflytrap)

chen the cheerleader: the overconfident and arrogant werecat leader of the fearleading (cheerleading) squad (toralei)

sora: a tortured teen werecat pop star from imperium who eventually joins the ninja with her best friend arin (catty noir)

arin: a boogeyman who, with sora, joins the people he idolised the most (twyla boogeyman)

sensei wu: the dragon(ish) headmaster of monster high (headmistress bloodgood)

misc ships in the AU: nightshade (chamille x tox) and dark thinking (neuro x shade)

ok but like a monster school au, where Kai's the only human around, like so Nya became the sea or smth when they where little and Kai's just taking care of himself, now he does see his sister when ever he get's the time/money go to the beach and visit her.

but but at the start of the au he accidentally falls down a hill or smth, and ends up at the wrong bus stop and ends up going to the monster school run by the FSM, he's the principle nobody ever sees, and his two sons Garmadon and Wu. one of them is nice and the other strict.

guess who's who, anyway, so segue into the other ninja real quick, jay's a snake boi, Cole's a ghost and Zane's something, the council of the school hasn't figured it out yet but since he's clearly not human he's here too, (he just a robo boy as usual).

Anyway so Kai ends up being mistaken for a studend (he's not human right? his teeth are too sharp...)-boy just has sharp teeth-anywho so he ends up dorming with the other three.

oh and Lloyd lives with his mom and has run off (? maybe) to go to this school to meet/see his dad, (it's dangerous the kids part human) so he's here to!

but image nya's shock when she see's her brother in the halls (also she's totally friends with like bentho and others skylor and such)

ensue highjinx of Nya desperately trying to make sure no-one figures out Kai's a human.

Green shuffle au

Basically, Morro is the green ninja, Rumi is the emo ghost, and Lloyd is the quiet one.

I've seen so many AU's where Morro is the green ninja and Lloyd is the ghost or Lloyd is the quiet one and rumi is the green ninja. But never all 3 shuffled around.

The basic plotline is. Morro is a homeless kid and thinks it would be a good idea to claim to know Lord Garmadon to get food. The ninja arrive, and cannon happens, but with Morro in Lloyd's place. I haven't yet figured out how this applies to Wu breaking Garmadon out of the realm of madness. Also, morro can still control wind.

Rumi dies during the events of the great Devourer and somehow ends up in the cursed realm and wants to take revenge on the ninja for letting the great Devourer escape, but during the season climaxe she sees a family running from some ghosts and has a flash back to her death and realizes that she is no better then the monsters she claims the ninja are, so she rebels and distracts the preeminent long enough for everyone to get to safely so kai can make a Tsunami large enough to drown the preeminent. (BTW kai and nya swap elements. So kai is the master of water, and nya is the master of fire. Also, Morro saves her because he believes that getting sent back to the departed realm via water desintigration is letting her off too easy.

Now, for Lloyd, I haven't fully decided how, but he somehow gets adopted by the Royal family. When he sees on the news that his father is back in the world of the living, he gets excited and is ready to have his father get him so they can rule Ninjago together or whatever. But for one reason or another, even after Garmadon has been purified. He never comes to get Lloyd. Both he and Masako think that Lloyd is still in darkly school for bad boys and never think to get him. Then Garmadon dies, and Lloyd starts the sons of garmadon and the plan to revive his father.

Also echo is Mr E. Lloyd sneaks out to go to the light house because everyone knows that Dr. juilien was forced to work for his father, and Lloyd thought that there might be some stuff left that he could use. (This takes place during the hands of time, btw so it's been a couple of months since skybound) to find echo almost dead. Lloyd brings him back to his lair and is able to fix him up. Echo still remembers the deleted timeline, but thought it was a dream. But when Lloyd tells him about the ninjas and that Dr. juilien is dead, echo is pissed. No one ever came to the light house except in the deleted timeline, and that was to hide. Dr. juilien never came back for him or any of his stuff. Echo was tossed away by his father in favor of his older brother. Lloyd offers echo a chance at revenge and a new possible family that echo readily accepts. Echo and Lloyd become good friends, even brothers. Plot happens, but Lloyd doesn't try to "seduce" morro that rumi did in cannon. But when garmadon gets revived and kills echo. Lloyd realizes that this man is not his father. So he takes what remains of echo and runs away, somehow finds the ninja and begs them to save echo. He offers all the knowledge he has and will be there willing prisoner. Tension is high, but they agree. echo still wants revenge, but he is willing to cool it for Lloyd. Echo is not loyal to the SOG he is loyal to Lloyd.

14. a fic you didn't expect to write

UM. definitely my current wip that i've been working on since like the last week of august or something. 37k and counting and it's still only about half done. like okay! literally the longest fic i've written since high school and everything of comparable length i've written is shit!

23. fics you wanted to write but didn't

uhhhhhh do the multiple planned sequels to my current wip that i cannot physically justify writing before i finish it count

otherwise there's like 4 other things, in order of likelihood that i'd actually work on them:

another pikmin fic entirely unrelated to my current wip. i actually have some of this written but i haven't touched it in like 2 months for no particular reason. basic premise started out as "Hm what if there were long-term consequences to The Events of p4" and then turned into midsommar lmao.

Manhattan, a tribute one- or two-shot to one of my favorite fic series of all time, The Station Sequence (Wells Street Station / The Ellipse / Promenade / Narodnaya) by Marquis Carabas. Fucking INCREDIBLE takes on Coraline and the kind of trauma that would naturally arise from her circumstances, but also an excellent example of She Who Fights Monsters and the impact that that has on herself and other people. I have a lot of very specific headcanons regarding parts of this series that I would have wanted to turn into a ten-year-anniversary tribute or whatever but unfortunately I didn't think of that until both the "series start" and "series end" anniversaries had long passed. But I'm absolutely going to write this anyway at some point - there are just too many specific ideas and some of them are already partially written.

the ninjago AU longfic that i've been planning... definitely since i finished crystallized, possibly since the s15 finale (but i don't think so, i remember the early concept was much more "this is an AU of crystallized" than "this is an AU of ninjago in general" so it was probably when i finished crystallized). the concept has Evolved a lot since then, but the basic premise is that sea!nya and a weird version of zane that i invented whole-cloth out of implications... they don't really "team up" as much as "orbit around each other for a billion years" in a way. julien is heavily involved, because you KNOW i can't resist that shit, and so are echo and harumi. i've already done a lot of Figuring Out with this universe or whatever but it'd take a Lot More and frankly DLD has much higher priority.

a few miscellaneous sciadv fics that i wrote a little bit of but which unfortunately did not go anywhere, and then amadeus wasn't nearly as important in A;C as i was hoping she'd be RIP. these are probably dead unfortunately the motivation is basically gone. ironically i might circle back to writing something for O;9 at some point instead - going in i thought it'd be horrible from what little i knew about it (unfinished VN/light novels and Breasting Boobily: The Anime), but actually i watched the anime back in september. aside from the pacing in the first few episodes feeling like i got infected with radical-6 and then started watching a normal show, it was LITERALLY fantastic and i am still fucking thinking about it. but! no plot bunny, fic needs a plot bunny. maybe something would come to me on a rewatch though.

Everything Right/Wrong with Ninjago “Legacy of the Green Ninja” E5: Child’s Play

I have some very strong opinions about some of the events that transpire during this episode… Disclaimers: Show owned by LEGO. This is not a professional review/critique - it’s mainly intended for comedy.

- Last appearance of baby Lloyd’s title card😔❌

- I know I’m starting on my Lloyd stan BS a little early, even for me, but COME ON- not enough people talk about how heartbreaking this opening scene is. He just wants to play like the other kids!!! Just let him play for five minutes please😭 ✅

- Petition to see Lloyd info-dump to his siblings about comic books in modern Ninjago ✅

- “The fate of Ninjago rests on your shoulders. As the Green Ninja you have a giant responsibility to hold. I’m sorry, but you don’t have time for such childish things.” HE’S 8! ❌

- “Come on, pint-sized,” Pint-sized ✅

- *after jumping on the grundle bones* “This is not a solid plan, Cole.” Then why did you follow him? ❌

- Why did the generals even attempt to shove the sarcophagus through the sewer? ❌

- Oh no! They’ve turned the ninja into marketable plushies-

-Okay, fine… I’ll add a win for the compilation of ear-splittingly high pitched screams ✅

- I’d love to sin the excessive amount of voice-swaps in this episode, but unfortunately, due to the kid voices, I can’t even tell half of who’s saying what in the first place, and trying to figure it out is giving me a migraine, and that in itself is a sin ❌

- “Perhaps Garmadon succeeded in turning back the clock…” “Yeah but nindroids don’t turn into kids…” AU where this episode is the same EXCEPT Zane got turned into a pile of lifeless scraps that the ninja had to carry around in a backpack the whole time ❌

- “What do ya got on, apple dumpling gang? Pajamas?” Apparently, the ninja’s suits are so low quality that they can be mistaken for pajamas ❌

- Also, apple dumpling gang ✅

- “Our spinjitzu doesn’t work!” Looked fine to me, at least long enough for the cops to see it and realize something was up ❌

- The cops picked up the ninja at night, and now it’s the next morning. They think these are actual kids, so why are they just now trying to call their parents? And who are they gonna call? Did the ninja give them a phone number? ❌

- Actually, why don’t the ninja just give them Wu’s number so that he can come pick them up? Surely he’s seen weirder things than his pupils turning into kids; I doubt he’d just ignore the call, especially if the ninja’s names were dropped ❌

- Ninja change clothes directly behind this group of young kids ❌

- ^ You may think the phone dangling is just a gag, but it’s actually a clever way to symbolize how the fandom is hanging on by a thread as we wait for the rest of Crystalized to drop ✅

- The TV in Buddy’s Pizza is playing the clips from the pilot that show how each the ninja met Wu. Where could anyone have gotten the footage for that? The fandom in REAL LIFE can barely find those episodes! ❌

- “You’re… SMALL!” Unsupervised 8 year-old walks into a public pizza place with nunchucks, shurikens, a sword and a scythe but him raising his voice is what draws attention? ❌

- “Yeah, but you don’t know the Grundle.” And you do? The only research you did was listen to Garmadon plagiarize a lecture from the History Channel ❌

- “I think I know just the guy…” Please don’t bring them to a dr*g dealer please don’t bring them to a dr*g dealer please don’t-

- “You brought us to a comic book store?!?!” Was that much not clear from the massive “Doomsday Comix” sign out front? ❌

- “If anyone knows how to defeat a monster that doesn’t exist, I know just the person to talk to.” D*mmit, Lloyd! What did I just say about bringing them to a dr*g dealer?!

- The ninja spend this entire episode making fun of Lloyd for reading comic books despite the fact that they are (near) adults who still play video games. Fun fact: there is nothing wrong with either of these things, but it still makes the ninja hypocrites for trying to claim one is fine when the other isn’t ❌

- “Fellas, meet Rufus McAllister, AKA, Mother Doomsday!” Oh, thank god. Not a dr*g dealer… just a Marvel fan. Wait, that might be worse…

- “Well, if it isn’t Lloyd Hemorrhoid Garmadon!” ⬇️

- ^❌

- Also, I thought Lloyd didn’t have friends? Granted, from that nickname, doesn’t sound like were friends, but still ❌

- F*cking illumi-swords??? I’d genuinely rather get sued for saying “lightsabers” than have to actually call something an illumi-sword ❌

- Mystake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ✅

- I get it’s life and death and all, BUT the ninja still steal (and ultimately break) four illumi-swords, and they never actually pay for those autographed suits ❌

- Also, episode expects me to now carry on the season with the knowledge that the 4 ninja are wearing cheap copies of their previous suits, with their OWN autographs on them ❌

- The Grundle takes a ridiculously long time to eat the ninja… no wonder it went extinct ❌

- “You’ll miss out on the rest of your childhood, dude. We can’t do that to you!” The problem is that Lloyd’s already missing out on his childhood, and realistically that probably won’t change, regardless of some magical age-up, but the episode never touches on that at all ❌

- “Fair? Fair isn’t a word from where I come from!” ✅

- “They are the real ninja” Yeah, no sh*t dude! ❌

- I love how weirded out the ninja look about older Lloyd ✅

- I’m gonna say it: his hair still f*cking sucks ❌

- “You can have my copy of Starfarer. You deserve it.” “That’s okay, I already know how it ends.” If people stopped watching a series because they already got spoiled about it then I can guarantee Ninjago would not have a fandom, especially in the U.S.❌

- Okay, look… I hate the age up. I wish it didn’t happen, mostly because it was kinda treated like the same situation as a young adult needing to grow up (“there comes a time we all must grow up”) and Lloyd is a child. - Further, it’s treated as if the concept of “all work, no play” is a healthy mindset/work ethic, which it’s NOT. Nonstop training all day shouldn’t be Lloyd’s reality because it isn’t healthy, regardless of age. People are known to perform better when given breaks, so let him have some breaks! ❌

- That being said, this entire ending monologue with the comic book-style art of Lloyd vs. Garmadon is so f*cking cool. I want this art as a poster! ✅

ninjago monster high headcanons and misc info!! (under the cut):

- cole, a werewolf, often uses puppy eyes to bribe and persuade his friends to do random stuff (he especially does it to geo, but a lot of the time it doesn’t work with him)

- geo is extremely hesistant to go back to shintaro (or screamtaro as it’s called in the au (it’s not a monster high au without funny haha name changes)) with cole and the gang for obvious reasons

- cole monologues about his feelings. a lot. especially to geo

- echo and morro, the runners of the school gossip blog, spread a rumour about cole and vania being together, until:

1. he started dating geo and came out as gay

2. cole, vania and a few others got back at echo n morro by spreading rumours about THEM being together (spoiler alert: echo/morro wasn’t a rumour)

- harumi and morro’s favourite pasttime is to bully lloyd about being short

- cole was initially extremely aversed to kai dating jay as he (kai) had a history of breaking up with his previous partners (all of which were girls) within a week, until it turned out he was just gay and didn’t know it (skylor helped him with that one)

- nya is the school’s champion swimmer

- the teapot of tyhrann is in the school pool’s deep end after jay yeeted it in (the deep end is bottomless)

10. Greaser/Surfer/Soc

My absolute favorite silly stock AU, sort everyone into one of the three categories and make em fight. Better is siblings are divided Even BETTER if it's Teen Beach Movie core and insanely goofy. Jay is so soc coded he is such a prep y'all.......

Lloyd goes to monster high au but cross it over mildly with ever after high

Ok but I’m 99% sure other elemental masters would just be counted as human passing elementals and wouldn’t be out of the ordinary at the monster high.

Cole being an ever after denizen distantly related to swan lake’s tale but specifically the character Odile. Only the Odile of that generation managed to escape his story aka Baron Lou Rothbart.

Thus rendering the tale incomplete forever more with an animal bride or witch’s descendant often being chosen to fulfill the role.

Lou ended up in Ninjago and Headmaster Grimm never bothered to look for him due to the tale being a minor one with no actual importance.

Lou being friends with the evil queen before she went full evil. Evil royals.

Odile’s/Baron’s sometimes die in their role and Lou doesn’t want to die or kill the odette of this generation.

So becoming a simple animal groom/warlock is far more preferable in the monster realm.

Since this is my first ever ninjago post I’ll introduce you a ninjago au I called

Robotic gunslinger

Basically a morro movie au

In the au morro is a student at piarla high basically a famous school in nemarla western city which is one of the most richest city you’ll see he is also a member of the conspiracy theory club which he investigate conspiracy they don’t have much notes tho and it’s considered the most strangest club in piarla high he also works as a famous actress and film producers alway hire him since he is known as the most famous person in the city and luckily people in nemarla respect his personal space and leave him alone he is also secretly the hero of the city since monster like to invade the city and attack people a lot since they like to invade the city so much he builds a little flying cat robot to help him transform into his hero suit and also has a secret base somewhere around the beach of nemarla and the city also has a mayor (you gotta have them at some point) he also has some friends that investigate conspiracy theories and also doesn’t know his super hero life and they alway hang out whenever there bored or investigate conspiracy (btw everyone in the city knows about his wind elemental which is one of the many reasons he is famous their)

Morro also lives in a small apartment since he left ninjago he recently moved there because he wanted a new life wu decided to let him move but he doesn’t know he’ll cause a lot of chaos and mischief the apartment has many cat stickers and he has a pet cat as well (he is obsessed with cats) he has many cat related stuff in his room but leaves everything else normal in the apartment so no one can know about his obsession with cats

Ill tell you about his friends and about the mayor the city the club and the apartment later especially the base later because right now I’m busy
