What will you do if the Internet goes down?
The prospect of a widespread internet disruption is a genuine concern in our increasingly digital world. Our reliance on the internet for communication, commerce, and information access makes us vulnerable to the consequences of a prolonged outage. The centralization of our digital infrastructure, with a few tech giants controlling a significant portion of the cloud, exacerbates this vulnerability. A disruption to these services would have a ripple effect, impacting businesses, supply chains, and individuals alike.
However, crises often breed opportunities. Could an internet outage catalyze the rise of decentralized, community-driven networks? We've seen glimpses of this resilience in mesh networks used during protests and the proliferation of open-source tools promoting digital freedom. nostr: il futuro dei social network
Per chi non lo conoscesse, nostr è una piattaforma stile Twitter che, però, rivoluziona il mondo dei social. Infatti, la caratteristica che lo rende unico è di essere assolutamente decentralizzato e incensurabile. Il meccanismo è simile a quello della blockchain: ci sono dei nodi (i server nostr), che chiunque può aprire, e dei client per connettersi. Quando scriviamo un messaggio, questo viene inviato ai vari server che lo distribuiscono. In questo modo, anziché esserci un'entità centrale che può censurare a suo piacimento, visto che il messaggio verrà distribuito su più server, per censurarlo bisognerebbe controllarli tutti! Essendo nato proprio per garantire la totale libertà di pensiero e di espressione, sarà impossibile per qualsiasi entità controllare l'interezza della rete. Esattamente come Bitcoin.
Sempre seguendo l'esempio di Bitcoin sull'utilizzo della crittografia, il nostro account è fornito di una chiave privata con cui possiamo accedere e di una chiave pubblica che permette di farci seguire dagli altri.
Per semplificare lo scambio di contatti, visto che la chiave pubblica è una lunga stringa alfanumerica impossibile da ricordarsi, esiste la possibilità di creare un indirizzo NIP-05, simile ad un indirizzo email, che possiamo condividere facilmente. Il mio è [email protected]
Le analogie con Bitcoin non finiscono qui! Infatti, grazie alla possibilità di collegare un indirizzo Lightning Network, il NIP-05 può essere usato anche per ricevere invoice LN.
Il progetto è ancora allo stadio iniziale, le interfacce sono ancora piuttosto pesanti e complesse ma, comunque, facilmente usabili dopo una prima configurazione. Sicuramente in futuro ci saranno notevoli sviluppi e miglioramenti, come ad esempio una app per Android (per iOS esiste già), ma già da ora è possibile usare la web-app salvando la pagina sulla home del telefono. Quindi, tutto sommato, è anche più comodo dello scaricare un'altra applicazione che riempie la memoria...

I mean. I dont use twitter, but just seeing the recent shenanigans I thought of creating a mastodon. I still think it’s too close to discord (and I’m really bad at socializing in small groups) but, could be fun trying
On the other side, I absolutely love the idea of nostr. I really hope it works out! Funnily enough, I’d never heard of it until muskrat’s post banning it. Hopefully ISPs wont kill it

I know nothing.
I'm starting an experiment because I'm curious to see where the best place to cultivate ideas is. On the legacy world platforms like this (no offense, but centralised systems have a major design flaw in them, they're centralised and therefore subject to #censorship), or on the new world decentralised systems like #nostr and #keet? I think I know the answer, but why not join me on the journey and we'll find out together 😊
I'm going to be publishing my work in several different locations (#Substack, #Highlighter, #WordPress, #Medium, #LinkedIn, and any others that come to my attention), to see which platforms gains the most traction. This creates a lot of additional work for me, but I believe the results will be worth it.

🌕 Storicamente, la libertà di parola è stata limitata attraverso la coercizione diretta. Ma oggi, ciò viene fatto in modi più subdoli: “fact-checker”, governi che esercitano pressioni sulle società di social media affinché censurino, campagne anti-disinformazione e leggi sull’”incitamento all’odio”.
🌕 Le insidiose restrizioni sono diventate così gravi che in alcuni paesi europei le persone hanno paura di esprimere le proprie opinioni.
🌕 Le attività dei censori sono diventate importanti durante la crisi del Covid, quando molti critici delle misure di potere autoritario hanno avvertito la stigmatizzazione dei verificatori dei fatti e la conseguente cancellazione. Nel frattempo, la disinformazione e la propaganda da parte delle autorità spesso non sono state seguite da verifica dei fatti, moderazione e responsabilità.
🍎 Le nuove forme di censura nelle democrazie odierne: pressioni sulle società di social media e leggi sull’incitamento all’odio
🌕 Mentre nei regimi totalitari la libertà di parola è limitata da una coercizione diretta e rigorosa, nelle democrazie odierne ciò avviene in modi più subdoli. L’ultima tendenza, sia nell’UE ma anche negli Stati Uniti, è quella di fare pressione sulle società di social media affinché attuino la censura su un’ampia gamma di questioni (migrazione, clima, minoranze, salute, ecc.) quando le opinioni critiche non corrispondono a quelle approvate dalle autorità. Inoltre, diversi paesi europei hanno leggi sull’incitamento all’odio per proteggere le “minoranze”, che limitano esplicitamente la libertà di espressione e minacciano i critici con sanzioni penali.
🌕 In Germania, il paese più grande d’Europa, negli ultimi dieci anni le autorità hanno adottato una linea particolarmente dura nei confronti della libertà di espressione, portandola a un livello senza precedenti: già il 44% dei tedeschi ammette di dover stare attento nell’esprimere le proprie opinioni e solo il 40% pensa possono ancora esprimere liberamente le proprie opinioni.
🍎 La libertà di parola viene ridotta nelle crisi
🌕 La libertà di parola è una delle prime vittime quando una società precipita in crisi o quando viene evocata una crisi, soprattutto una crisi duratura. Se a tale crisi viene data una dimensione globale, ci sono tutte le ragioni per aspettarsi che chi è al potere attaccherà duramente la libertà di parola e i suoi critici. Giustificazioni sociali e psicologiche vengono addotte per giustificare la censura, ma molte crisi hanno dimostrato quanto siano fuorvianti tali giustificazioni.
🌕 Nick Hudson, il creatore di PANDA, ha giustamente concluso che quando un fenomeno o un evento viene presentato come una crisi globale con solo soluzioni globali, accompagnata dalla censura del dissenso, è sicuramente ed esclusivamente una truffa.
🌕 Negli ultimi dieci anni, il mondo occidentale è passato da una crisi all’altra, e ogni volta che le autorità cominciano a limitare la libertà di parola, trova sempre una giustificazione addolcita — che si tratti della lotta contro la “disinformazione” o della difesa delle “minoranze”. Ma il nocciolo del danno rimane senza risposta, con poca attenzione al danno causato dalla restrizione della libertà di parola nella società.
🍎 I fact-checker e la diffusione della disinformazione
🌕 Gran parte dell’etichettatura di disinformazione si basa sul lavoro dei cosiddetti fact-checker, il cui numero è cresciuto in modo esponenziale negli ultimi 15 anni. Il giornalista investigativo Paul D. Thacker ha sottolineato i pregiudizi dei fact-checker, evidenziando come essi possano contribuire a diffondere piuttosto che a fermare la disinformazione. La loro funzione sembra essere quella di confutare opinioni e fatti inappropriati nelle aree più problematiche per l’élite al potere, etichettandoli come “falsi”, “errati” e “fuorvianti”.
🍎 Miti e fatti durante la crisi del Covid: L’ombra della disinformazione governativa
🌕 Le attività dei censori sono diventate cruciali durante la crisi del Covid, quando molti critici delle misure di potere autoritario hanno subito stigmatizzazione e cancellazione. Secondo esperti come Vinay Prasad, Martin Kulldorff, Marty Makary e Jayanta Bhattacharya, le autorità hanno mentito su vari aspetti del Covid-19, mentre le Big Tech hanno contribuito a diffondere disinformazione.
🌕 In Europa, la campagna di “anti-disinformazione” si è diffusa nei corridoi del potere a Bruxelles, estendendosi a temi quali clima, migrazione, minoranze e salute. Tuttavia, la disinformazione e la propaganda delle autorità spesso non sono seguite da verifica dei fatti, moderazione e responsabilità.
🌕 La disinformazione può essere contrastata solo con fatti, maggiori informazioni e capacità di tollerare il dissenso, non con la censura o la minaccia di procedimenti penali.
🍎 Il punto di ebollizione del pianeta: Una narrazione distorta
🌕 La narrazione del cambiamento climatico antropico è stata inquadrata come una crisi globale con soluzioni globali, ma le restrizioni alle libertà individuali stanno diventando sempre più gravi. Gli esperti evidenziano incertezze nella ricerca sul cambiamento climatico, ma la narrazione unilaterale viene imposta con forza, impedendo un dibattito scientifico più ampio.
🌕 Al Gore e altri leader affermano che il cambiamento climatico crea migranti climatici, ma la storia mostra che guerre, regimi autoritari e politiche di “frontiere aperte” hanno un impatto maggiore sulla migrazione. Inoltre, le affermazioni apocalittiche su “ebollizione globale” e catastrofi climatiche sono sottolineate senza essere sottoposte a verifica.
🌕 In conclusione, durante la crisi della Democrazia, la libertà di parola è minacciata da forme subdole di censura, campagne anti-disinformazione e narrazioni distorte sulla crisi climatica. La società deve difendere il diritto di esprimere liberamente le proprie opinioni per preservare la democrazia.
🍎 A questo punto immagino vi stiate domandando cosa c’entra tutto questo con il focus portato avanti dalla nostra community e con gli argomenti trattati nei nostri articoli. Bene, Bitcoin è uno strumento e se visto come qualcosa che rende una persona non ricattabile economicamente, allo stesso tempo ci sono piattaforme social su cui la libertà di espressione è un valore inviolabile e sulle quali non esiste un controllo centralizzato che possa praticare censura.
