i might be just the tiniest bit obsessed with segasaki from mpw. hes just… so good, so shaped, so moulded as a character, as a performance, as a person. its just all coming together with him and it’s only ep 3. like every facet about the way he is and the way he’s played is perfect. the low voice that can be played off as indifference and moodiness early on but then later says the sweetest things you wouldn’t expect, the way he uses that monotone voice to tease yoh, taking any single hint of unhappiness or a complaint back to yoh saying he hates him bc he’s just that petty and as much as it’s to mess with him, it still actually hurts, bc yoh still said he hates him, but that sadness just reverts back to indifference and moodiness. its the way that voice and vibe contrast so fantastically the way he just does stuff, just goes for it. he’s so not a verbal person and everything about the way he presents is so casual and unbothered but he will also just ask yoh out with no beating around the bush. he decides and commands so easily, whether it’s ordering food or what they’re doing or buying clothes, but it’s never bossy bc its what yoh wants. whether segasaki has asked him or he just says it randomly, whenever yoh says something he wants, segasaki just decides to make it happen and it’s such a perfect match to yoh’s indecision and hesitancy, and that command segasaki has is always used to overcome that. it’s the way his flirting is so subtle but gets to yoh so much bc it gets at exactly where that hesitancy and indecisiveness is. he leans in when they speak so that yoh hears him and he hears everything yoh says, and he pesters him for an opinion until he gives one and still teases him about it. it’s so good bc it’s so not obvious on the surface, it’s just flirting, but it’s also segasaki trying to create a space where yoh is comfortable so that he’ll come out of his shell, he pushes him just enough, and it’s playful enough, that it gets through. and it’s the way he smiles in those moments yoh isn’t looking. it’s not that he hides them, its bc yoh looks away bc he’s flustered too, that he doesn’t see the smile that grows when they hold hands or sit close or when yoh says something and segasaki is just overcome with how cute he is and how smitten he is. it’s the way yoh says he only sees them slight smiles, and holds onto that as a reason to hope but also be cautious, that he doesn’t know the full extent of the happiness segasaki is feeling in any single moment when he’s around bc he misses those smiles. and yet segasaki has faith in yoh enough to know that despite being reserved, despite saying horrible things, he trusts that there’s feelings there, and that’s beautiful and also so scary bc i don’t think yoh knows just how much of a hold he has over segasaki, and just how capable of breaking his heart he is. bc segasaki acts so sure, he acts beyond doubt despite what yoh has said to him, but just that line of him saying ‘you’re beloved sex’ at the end betrays that some of that faith is constructed, that there’s little basis for it from yoh, bc yoh has been stuck on sex, and rightly so as he sees it as one of their only points of connection, bc they act so separately and unattached when they’re not having sex, and you see through the eps them developing these small bits of closeness outside the bedroom, but that’s still their biggest form of connection. so of course yoh sticks to it and focuses on it, but for segasaki of course it feels like that’s all yoh is concerned with. his whole meltdown in ep 2 centered on the fact they weren’t having sex, and even when they go on a date and have fun, yoh thinks about sex, and buys sheets, and brings it back to that. at the start you think segasaki holds all the power, but the show is about realizing they equally hold power, precisely bc they both feel strongly about each other but fail to communicate it. yoh doubts segasaki bc of his indifferent persona, and segasaki doubts yoh bc he only seems concerned with sex, and doesn’t actually like him.
it’s such a mess of emotions veiled behind this quiet, understated show bc it perfectly extends and captures with everything about its production and writing and delivery the way they both have much more complex feelings hidden underneath the surface of casual normalcy and it’s just utter perfection.

There are so many things left unresolved from the last episode. Like Daemon has performance problems, how did he solve his issue? He was going to fly to Eyrie for his inheritance from his late wife. What happened there? Ser Crispin killed a noble man, in crown princesses wedding. How did he end up head of the king's guard and was given the duty to train the princes? How was there no consequences for his blatant murder when Harwin was exiled just for a few punches. So many plot holes.

Dear Doctor, I’m Coming for Soul - Mini Music Analysis
This post has been in my drafts forever, but due to people recently telling me they enjoy my music analysis, I’ll be posting it.
***Disclaimer! Yes, it’s mandatory no matter how many of these posts I make. I am not a musician. I am just a person, sitting on my couch that watches BL in my free time and occasionally has thoughts about music.
In case this is the first post of mine you’re seeing, let’s start with what the purpose of a soundtrack is. A soundtrack for a tv show (or movie) is supposed to help set the tone of the show without distracting the audience or being obvious about what’s happening. One of the things that I feel like Dear Doctor struggles with is settling on the overall tone of the show. Normally the soundtrack could help navigate any issues like that and help keep the show balanced, but this soundtrack has been exacerbating the tonal issues instead of helping smooth them over. And I actually spoke to my older brother about this (he is much more knowledgeable than I am) and he said that a good soundtrack not only sets the tone, but will evoke the same emotions when listening to the music on its own even if you’re not currently watching the scene it was written for. And I’m not expecting a show like Dear Doctor to have the most impressive soundtrack in the world and for it to be on par with easily recognizable soundtracks from like big, blockbuster movies, but I do expect that the soundtrack matches the scenes.
And while the soundtrack definitely makes an attempt at matching the tone of the show, it never fully gets there. And the soundtrack has, on multiple occasions, actually pulled me out of the show. Normally when I watch a show, I am invested and I get completely and totally absorbed,  unless the show has an amazingly good soundtrack (Old Fashion Cupcake) or the show does something weird musically. Whenever I start to get absorbed with Dear Doctor, the music does something that pulls me out of it and I can’t focus on what is actually happens in the show because I’m focused on trying to figure out what the hell the soundtrack is doing. A lot of this is due to poor volume control over the soundtrack. There were a few instances where the music was going full force, and instead of backing off when the characters started speaking, the audio for the soundtrack and the dialogue were competing which made it even more difficult to fully concentrate on what was happening.
The goal of a soundtrack is to be there but not be noticeable. If the music is competing with the actual dialogue being spoken, it is far too noticeable. Thank goodness I have to watch it subbed because there are some scenes that I couldn’t hear a damn thing they were saying. And that’s a problem. I do believe that the soundtrack issues got better over time, but it was a real struggle to get through those first few episodes. This show is the perfect example of how a soundtrack can make or break a show. Had this show had a good soundtrack, and changed nothing else, I would have thoroughly enjoyed the show. But as it was, I think I consider the show passable. I didn’t drop it, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone actually sit down to watch it.

Random goon: Hey boss, were you the one to pick that name as an alias? And why this one?
Red Hood : I used to have another name, before... A long time ago. But that person is dead now. I get to choose for myself now, they can't take that from me. I won't let them.
Goon: Huh.
***
Random Goon: Say boss, why do you never take off your shirt in front of us?
Red Hood: Well uh, I actually have that really fucked scar on my chest and I'm not comfortable with...
Random Goon: Don't worry boss, we get it, you don't have to explain yourself to us.
***
Red Hood, high on some toxin: God, I wish my family...
Random Goon (on boss-sitting duty): why not try reaching out to them?
Red Hood: They would never accept me as I am now... They wouldn't agree with my so-called "life choices". Besides, they don't miss me, they miss the person they think I used to be... I wasn't even a man when I last saw them.
Random Goon: Damn boss, that sucks.
***
And then the goons throw the Red Hood a party on trans visibility day and Jason is so confused he straight up cries.

I honestly can't wait to read your million posts about utsukushii kare. that show was perfect and it's eating my brain, but at the same time with last week ep I had a lot to say but this week with the finale I'm like 😶 that was perfect and I love them thats all I can articulate atm
aghhhhhh my first utsukushii kare anon finally i am no longer screaming into a void!!!! tysm for enjoying my dumb, incoherent rants. as you said, i just have like so many feelings about this show it’s impossible to contain and yet impossible to articulate it’s actually insane. and im so glad there are other people out there that feel the same. for a hot second there i thought i was just going mad hyperfixating on this show, proclaiming it as one of the best things to ever have been made, all by myself, but im so so happy it’s hitting other people that way too, and it’s a testament to the fact that yes the show really is actually that good, it’s not just me. anyway, yes, i have a lot of things i so wanna find a way to say so look forward to me having the time to sit down properly and trying to write something semi-coherent, bc just in this final ep both the scene in the park and the scene at the end and just the way they handled introducing things that shake hira and put him on a path to change, I just thought it was incredibly well done. and in the not too distant future im gonna have some more free time and i so wanna sit down and like actually pick apart this show ep by ep or character specific idk yet i think it’s just the best way i know to convey my love for something is to pick apart all the ways it’s incredible, and this show makes me wanna do that, and I think it deserves it too.
so yes this is me officially saying i am on a personal journey to become THE utuskushii kare guy. i want this show to define me. i want people to see my username and think ‘oh that’s jemmo, the utsukushii kare guy’. i can’t be stopped. let the brainrot consume me eternally (heh get it)

I need your opinion on plus and minus series.
Or links to the posts.
My opinion?
It was a good show until it wasn't.
Actually, it was a great show until it wasn't any more and then it suddenly slid into a weird place that I think never resolved well and took away from the show in the end.
I can clarify.
Having the last conflict be the break up and the having the narrative treat both of their parts in it as equal took me out of the show entirely and destroyed the emotional pathos of the ending.
I can explain a bit more.
I wanted to love that show so much but it let me down by removing any sense of emotional pathos at the end. They set up Li Gong hurting Ze Shou and then just... didn't. Then they were placed narratively equal in the end and it made no sense.
That ending was so frustrating because the rest was so good and had so much potential and it felt very thrown away by not having any actual pathos or apologies or anything that mattered.
So, there you go!

for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal
before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"
and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"

Let’s me just dump these sketches over here.
I’ve been thinking so much about Alastor’s character and motivations I’m so in love!
He gives me: “I’m so terrified of feeling weak or vulnerable that I’ll do anything to never feel that.”
Deer boy, you realise sir Pentious is braver than you???
