Ark of the Covenant King Solomon's Temple Talon Abraxas
The Ark of the Covenant
The Divine Presence that dwelled amongst Israel manifested itself through the Cherubim located on top of the Ark of the Covenant. Inside the Ark of the Covenant, the two tablets of the commandments were stored. There is a Talmudic discussion regarding the contents of the Ark, One opinion states that both the first Tablets (that were broken by Moses) as well as the second Tablets, and the Torah scroll written by Moses, were all housed in the Ark.
Thus the name of the Ark was the Ark of the Covenant or the Ark of the Testimony. Surrounding the Kaporet (the cover of the Ark) was a golden wreath representing the Crown of the Torah. Atop the Kaporet were two images of Cherubim that symbolized the relationship between the Children of Israel and their Father in Heaven.
The Talmud relates that Bezalel and Moses discussed the question of whether to build the Mishkan (the Tabernacle) first, or the Ark first, indicating the great importance of the Ark. The Ark was the only vessel about which the Torah specifically commands that its carrying poles are never to be removed. This signified that the Torah would accompany the Children of Israel wherever they went. (Our Sages have explained that the word Aron (the Ark) is related to the word Or, meaning light, for the Torah which is stored in the Ark is the source of light for the world.
The Ark consisted of three boxes that fit one inside the other. A wooden box was placed inside a slightly larger box made of gold and inside the wooden box was an additional golden box. In this way the Ark was covered in gold "on the inside and on the outside." The outer larger box was a bit more than one handbreadth higher than the wooden box and the inner box was a bit smaller so that they could be inserted into one another.
The dimensions of the Ark relate to the middle, wooden box - two and one half cubits long, one and one half cubits wide and one and one half cubits high. The Ark was covered by the Kaporet - a solid gold tablet with two Cherubim fashioned on top. The cherubim were an integral part of this cover, hewn from the same piece of gold. (Source: Exodus 25, 10-22).
The Tablets of the Covenant were placed in the Ark along with the Torah scroll written by Moses. The Ark of the Covenant symbolized the inspiration of the Divine Presence and prophecy in Israel.
Opinions vary regarding what exactly was placed inside the Ark: Some authorities maintain that the first set of tablets broken by Moses were inside the Ark, along with the second intact set, and the Torah Scroll which Moses wrote. Hence the name "the Ark of the Covenant" or "the Ark of the Testimony." The shape of the two tablets was square, and they were placed on the bottom of the Ark. However, a different opinion states that the broken tablets were kept in a separate Ark, that the Torah Scroll had its own special place on a shelf alongside the Ark. (Source: Baba Batra 14).

For the Sake of a Smile (V.2) Chapter Nineteen
Title: For the Sake of a Smile (Revised)
Overall Rating: Mature (18+)
Chapter Rating: M for Mature. We've begun the 18+ content
Trigger warnings: Nothing beyond the child abuse hinted in the series, though we do explore the consequences a bit more.
Main Pairing: Balam Shichiro/Reader
Summary: Hell on earth was your motto for your job. Granted, you were pretty sure earth really was hell, considering the shit you had seen in your life. And the fact your coworker was a child.
A child named Suzuki Iruma, in fact. A kid who’s life was decidedly worse than yours, but yet he smiled despite everything. It wasn’t long after meeting him that you decided you’d do a lot for his smile. Including summoning a literal demon and signing your soul away.
But as it turns out, hell (The Netherworld, actually) was a lot better than living on earth. Demons were more humane than a lot of humans you knew.
And Iruma’s smile wasn’t the only one that would change your life.

Chapter Nineteen
To be fair, it made sense that Kitten would search out Iruma as he wandered. He also tended to find Shichro and Sullivan as well, but more often than not he seemed to be hunting after Iruma - and was subsequently intercepted by Babyl’s guard dog.
//If you want this cretin back, meet me in the teacher lounge.// Kalego texted, quickly followed with an image of Kitten being scruffed and looking defiant as he yowled.
You cursed to yourself as you put up the sign that stated you’d be away for a few minutes, and then swiftly made your way towards the teachers’ lounge. Despite each of the divisions having their own prep rooms and such, the teachers also had the lounge where they seemed to enjoy congregating the most to work on their various projects, as well as just mingle with their peers. There were usually always a few teachers there, no matter the time of day.
At the moment, considering it was near the end of the day when most students were working on projects or their batras, it was quite full. Even Shichiro, who was conversing with Suzy, was there. You waved when he did a double take, no doubt surprised to see you.
After all, you weren’t a teacher. Not really.
Despite the annoyed expression on Kalego’s face, Kitten was purring away on his lap while the demon mindlessly petted him while trying to work on papers one-handedly.
“About time” Kalego stated as you approached, barely pausing in his work. “Your lack of control of your familiar is pathetic.”
“He isn’t exactly a familiar,” You replied.
Kalego’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Even Nigyul obeys Shichiro, familiar or not.”
“Yes, well, this is a cat and my mana isn’t as powerful as his.”
The dark haired demon was less than impressed, but before he could say anything, the old-fashioned phone on his desk rang. At first, you felt pity for whomever decided now was a good time to call, except the person on the other end of the line barely allowed Kalego to answer before starting their own rant.
The displeasure on Kalego’s face briefly shifted into surprise before darkening once more. You were awkwardly left waiting as he talked with whomever, his voice polite and cold.
Until there was a flare of mana, the form of Cerberus crackling into existence. “Are you questioning our education principles?” Kalego snarled, a threat evident in his voice.
You instinctively stepped back, heart racing as Kitten jumped into your arms, a small hiss escaping his tiny form as he tried to puff up.
Run, your instincts warned as your heart pounded in your ears. You were barely able to keep from heeding its instruction, and was probably due to Shichiro suddenly appearing alongside Dali, the latter gently taking the phone from Kalego.
“Our school puts the ambitions of our students first,” Dali spoke in that deceptively polite way, and the way he seamlessly butted into the conversation made you wonder if his hearing was so acute he had been able to hear both sides of the conversation across the room.
But even you were able to hear the caller’s next words: “Call Soi then. I can make him withdraw himself.”
--+--
You refused to leave as soon as you realized the situation. Soi; the classmate with whom Iruma had been working on befriending, who Iruma was convinced was coming out of his shell, was being forced to withdraw from Babyls by what sounded like an overbearing and controlling parent.
It reminded you too much of Iruma’s biological parents.
You waited anxiously for Soi to appear after being summoned to the teacher’s lounge, and jumped to your feet from Shichiro’s lap as soon as he did. Only for your giant demon to hold you back once the lavender-haired student entered the room.
“Shichiro,” You growled, verging on angry as Soi’s stoic expression showed faint signs of dejection as his father talked with him over the phone.
“He’s a student, not your child,” Shichiro reminded you quietly, his chiding softened by the way he was cuddling you, as if trying to apologize as well as restrain you. “It’s not our place to interfere.”
You were torn between believing him and demanding that just because he wasn’t your child didn’t mean you were going to let his parents control him. Maybe it was because he reminded you of Iruma when his parents would call, ripping him from the somewhat stability you tried to provide for him for their own selfish desires. Or maybe it was just because you were a mother hen, or the magical contract you agreed to when you were sworn in as Babyls’ faculty.
Either way, you couldn’t just stand by and watch.
You tore away from Shichiro as soon as Soi spoke: “Please, I want to withdraw.”
“Soi, please,” You interrupted. “Don’t do this.”
Kalego spoke your name, his tone a warning, but you were too involved to heed it. In fact, you shot him a glare of your own, warning him before returning your attention to Soi
“If you truly want to withdraw from Babyls, you can. But if you feel like you have to because your parents expect you to, don’t... Follow your ambition, not theirs.”
Even with his blank expression, you could see him wavering as he looked to Kalego. The misfit homeroom teacher crossed his arms, still looking annoyed. “Unfortunately, I have to agree with Ms. Suzuki.” He sighed. “Whatever your decision is, it should be yours.”
There was a long moment of silence as Soi thought before sighing. “I need to withdraw. Immediately.”
“Soi…” You reached out, but he had vanished into thin air before you could even touch him. Kalego sighed heavily, apparently accepting his choice.
You couldn’t. Not so easily.
“We’re here for you Soi. And you know your classmate will have your back no matter what.” It felt weird talking to thin air, yet you know he was there. And had the oddest feeling of someone brushing your hand.
--+--
As you expected, neither Iruma nor the other misfits took the news well. The whole school was buzzing with rumors and stories of their antics after school to call out their missing classmate.
Because while Soi hadn’t been seen or heard from at school, he hadn’t returned home either.
Yet, you couldn't help but worry as days passed and the Music Festival drew closer, and there was still no sign of the child. "Are you sure Soi is here?" You asked dubiously later in the week, well after school had ended.
Kalego nodded slightly. "We have ways of keeping track of students to assure they at least stay on school grounds. His exact whereabouts are harder to discern, but he hasn't left the property."
It made your heart hurt even more to know Soi didn't want to return home to his family, but still felt as if he needed to hide from everyone else as well, despite the fact the misfit class had embraced him fully.
Thoughts of somehow finding Soi and dragging him back to your home turned in your mind, fueled by the mothering instinct you were becoming infamous for. There was plenty of space in the mansion, especially for a demon like Soi. Sullivan would likely be all too happy to adopt another grandson... Hopefully, at least.
Then again, keeping the fact you and Iruma were human would be tricky. Soi may be quiet and discreet, but you had experienced his habit of 'info-dumping' before his own class when you had quite literally stumbled over him when he had been reading in one of the newly-created reading nooks, and he started complaining about studying.
"He'll be fine," Shichiro answered, either correctly guessing your train of thought, or just by coincidence. Your guess was on the former, considering how well he knew you. "The entirety of Babyls is behind him and will assure his basic needs are met. This isn't the first time we've dealt with this kind of situation."
"Agreed. This is a good experience for a demon his age, it will help him grow and forge his own path," Kalego added. "And that is our primary goal. Not to mold them into whatever puppets their family may want, but to help them grow into themselves."
You sighed as you sunk back into the Biology preproom's couch (unsure when the room became the natural gathering place, but had a feeling it was before your arrival). "I know you're right... but its going to be hard for me not to worry."
Kalego raised an eyebrow as he looked over at you. "You are a very odd demon."
You froze instinctively, and felt Shichiro tense beside you as well. Sure you had heard the term before; thousands of times actually. Usually being laughed at by one of the other teachers after you had a slip of the tongue.
But Kalego wasn't amused. His dark eyes were narrowed and accusatory, his gaze sharp enough it pinned you in place. All you could think was 'he knows he knows he knows' .
Kalego realizing the truth was inevitable; you had known that for a long time. He was far too intelligent and around both Iruma and Shichiro too often to not catch the fact something was off.
Yet it still caught you off guard, and you weren't sure how he felt about it - about you. He had seemed tolerant, even amicable, towards you now. And you considered him virtually a friend at this point.
But, would this change things? Would he not be as accepting as Shichiro and Opera? What about Iruma? Did he suspect him to not be a demon as well? Was Iruma no longer safe?
Kalego blinked as he looked away dismissively, taking a drink of the dark burgundy wine instead. "Not that it matters, seeing as you're hardly a threat to the students."
Shichiro sagged in relief, though you could hardly do the same. Fear and anxiety still gripped your heart. "You're right," You said carefully after a moment, your voice quiet and timid. "I am hardly a threat. If anything, I'm the one in danger here."
Kalego raised his brow once more in surprise, and Shichiro whispered your name softly, almost to caution you as he entangled his hand with yours. You squeezed it tight as you continued, meeting Kalego's gaze. "I've been lucky this far, but I know that inevitably my weakness will be found out by someone more malevolent. But until then, I will protect all the students of Babyls, and care for them as much as I fuss over the Misfits."
"And if that does come to pass," Kalego stated matter-of-factually, "They will find out that no matter how weak or different you are, you are part of Babyls faculty. And we don't take kindly to any that would harm our own."
You finally relaxed, offering a smile of gratitude.
--+--
The day of the Music Festival arrived, and there was still no sign of Soi.
You had made sure to set your alarm plenty early to help Iruma get ready, knowing he was nervous. That, and he had texted last night he was going to try one last time to find Soi and try and talk to him; so he'd be home late.
You hadn't liked the idea of going to bed before he returned, but you also knew you could trust he'd be safe this time around. After all, it was Babyls. The school was warded against anything that would hurt its treasure. And even the short walk between the mansion and school was relatively safe.
Iruma's room was still dark when you opened the door the morning of the Music Festival, thick curtains drawn tight over the large windows. You didn't think you had woken up that early, but perhaps you had.
"Iruma~". You started in a sing-song voice as you approached his bed. "It's morning, my little bug. And you know what that means."
Usually by now your adoptive son would be grumbling, but sitting up - first thing in the morning was the only time you had ever heard him grumble and whine - instead, silence hung in the gloom; the shadow of his bed unmoving.
Devi, how late had he been out? Granted, Soi had become little more than a ghost haunting the school. Small little things to let everyone know he was still there, making you wonder if he knew how much you and others were worrying and left hints to alleviate your fears.
Things like empty snack wrappers, and a pillow and blanket in one of your reading nooks that you knew had not been there when you left the evening before.
You wondered if Soi had appeared and actually talked with Iruma, or if the poor boy had stayed so late in vain trying to convince Soi to return.
"Come on Iruma," You sighed as you reached the bed. "I know it's early, but..."
You froze as you patted the comforter and found the bed empty. Your eyes adjusted to the gloom and showed a pristinly made bed. "Iruma?" You patted the bed in desperation, hoping maybe you were wrong. Maybe he wasn't curled up in the middle as usual. But there was no small human amongst the plethora of plushies that decorated his bed. "IRUMA!"
--+--
The mansion was a flurry of activity a few hours later. Sullivan was pacing in the background, feeling stressed and on the verge of panicking. Granted, you were rather useless yourself as you sat on the couch with Iruma curled against you. Opera, thankfully, was proving their reliability and even-headedness.
Not only had they been the one to find Iruma sleeping on the rooftop of Babyls (while you and Sullivan panicked like cockatrices with their heads cut off), but was still taking charge and getting everything prepared.
"Mom…," Iruma whined as he leaned against you, face buried in your shoulder. "I'm so tired...."
"I'm not surprised," You chided lightly while rubbing circles on his back. "I was so worried when you weren't here this morning. When you texted me last night and said you'll be home late, I didn't think you meant all night."
"I'm sorry," He sighed. "I didn't think Soi would be so stubborn."
"He's nearly as stubborn as you, sir," Opera appeared, and you glanced towards them... doing a double take when you saw Shichiro standing behind them.
"Shichiro?"
He held up a jar of what looked like a variety of dried herbs. "Opera called and explained what happened, so I brought a herbal tea blend to help wake Iruma up."
Opera offered a cup of said tea to Iruma, and you nearly gagged at the smell. Despite looking like a dark - thick - brew of coffee, it smelled nothing like it. Still, Iruma accepted the cup and downed the entire thing within a minute. The expression on his face confirmed it tasted as horrid as it smelled.
But a heartbeat later, the boy blinked a few times and quickly switched from exhausted to wide awake. "Oh wow!" He jumped up, almost vibrating with energy. "This feels wonderful!"
"How long will this last?" You asked skeptically, watching him all but bounce around the room as if he just had a triple shot espresso and far too much sugar.
"The energy should last about ten hours before wearing off. Then he will crash. So make sure you're ready for bed," Shichiro instructed gently, addressing Iruma for the last part. "You will fall asleep and sleep hard once it's out of your system. So make sure you're somewhere safe."
"Yes sir!" Iruma saluted with a large smile on his face. "Thank you so much, Professor Balam!"
Shichiro smiled behind his mask, his cheeks turning pink with self-consciousness. "Let's go get you ready, sir." Opera stated as they whisked Iruma away, Sullivan trailing behind the pair, which left you and Shichiro alone.
Judging by the twinkle in your father's eye, that was the plan.
Your eyes drifted to Shichiro, indulging your wearied mind and heart as you studied him. "Seems like you helped save the day," You admitted moments before Kitten jumped from your lap with a chirp to greet Shichiro himself.
"When Senpai texted me for some energy-boosting tea, I couldn't refuse," He explained as he caught Kitten in his attempt to glide towards the demon, cuddling the fluffball closely to his chest and scratching between his ears. "And I had promised to escort you to the festival, so it worked out perfectly."
You blushed as you remembered him awkwardly asking if he could escort you to the concert. His face pink as he had stammered over his words as if you could ever say no to him.
He hadn't dressed up, but you noted his hair was tamed as it fell to his shoulders, his mask shiner than usual. And a messenger-style bag thrown over his shoulder, which you presumed was what held the herbal blend on his flight here.
"Here you are, all dressed up, and I'm still in my pajamas." You said, trying to break the silence as you stood, scritching the kitten cradled in his hands. His cheeks darkened even more as he took in your own state of dress.
While your pajamas weren't too daring - especially with a house coat thrown over to keep off a chill as you helped Iruma - you still felt rather self-conscious as his gaze lingered, obviously liking what he saw judging by the pink crawling up his cheeks.
It gave you courage to try your hand at being a bit sultry as you grazed his bare upper arms with your fingers. "Let me get changed and... then would you like to help me with my hair?"
"Absolutely!" He grinned, making you wonder if he was excited about the connotation you tried to inflect, or just playing with your hair once more.
Yet inexplicably, his expression shifted suddenly, looking as nervous as he had when asking you to the Music Festival as your date. "Um, Iruma stated that in the human realm it's traditional to bring your 'date' flowers, so..." He shifted the kitten into one hand before he pulled out a bouquet from his bag.
Your breath caught in your chest at both the gesture as well as the flowers. Multiple bright colored flowers of different sizes and shapes popped against the dark green foliage. You were entranced by the sight as well as the aroma as you accepted the flowers from him, having to nestle the large bouquet in your arms. Strong scents similar to rosemary and thyme mixed with softer sweeter scents like roses and lilies in a way that was just as enticing as the various blooms.
"Shichiro..." You whispered as you marveled at your gift. "It's so beautiful, thank you."
"They're non-toxic in case the kitten gets into them," He rambled almost nervously. "The witches' blood helps with anemia - you know - just in case... And the Cain Berries mix well with the Dragon's Breath for an energizing tea, and...."
He went through every part of the bouquet - each with some use - making you feel even more touched and honored. Not only was it beautiful and smelled as wonderful as it looked, but he had put so much thought about the various uses once the blooms inevitably faded.
No one had given you flowers in all your life - let alone such a large one like this one so thought out and carefully chosen just for you. Tears pricked the corners of your eyes as you looked back at him.
How did you happen to be so lucky?
"C'mere you." You gripped his shirt and tugged him closer to press a kiss to his cheek, just above his mask. "Thank you so much," You whispered as you pulled away. "This means a lot to me."
"You've been trying to understand our culture and traditions. It's the least I can do." He cupped your face with his free hand, his thumb rubbing circles against your cheek. "I want you to feel at home, both in the Netherworld as well as with me."
How could you explain to him that you already did, other than unclasping his mask for a proper kiss.
--+--Su-Ki-Ma--+--
Shichiro sat stiffly in one of the sitting chairs in the reading nook of your bedroom. It was a little less organized than the Babyls library - more grouped by which one you loved to read than anything else. Unfortunately, not even the knowledge that his books were all placed in spots of honor could distract his thoughts. His mind was replaying the last time he was in your room, of having your legs wrapped around him as he tasted you. Or the way it felt to hold you while you slept.
Or when his instincts flared after Opera came in, his body moving to hide and protect his mate from the intrusion before his mind could even form a single thought.
His eyes kept straying to the closed doors of your closet, ears sensitive to hearing the rustle of fabric as well as your muttered curses as you debated what to wear. And your smell. It had hit him as soon as he entered the Sullivan home and he had to snap his jaw shut and hope no one noticed the other effects you left on him.
Would this feeling fade, should you become his mate? Would he become desensitized to the scent of humans - of you - over time? Would you slowly start to smell like the rest of the Netherworld's inhabitants, or would he always feel like he was on the verge of either an evil cycle or a rut anytime you weren't wearing Lord Sullivan's protective fragrance?
The door cracked open, and you stepped out. While your clothes would be hidden by your coat, you had still put thought into your outfit. Granted no matter what you wore, you would be beautiful to him - but he could still appreciate your effort. The way the colors seemed to pop against your skin tone, the way it hugged or draped over your frame.
"How do I look?" You asked as you did a little spin, allowing him to appreciate all of you.
"Enchanting as always," He answered honestly, enjoying the blush on your cheeks. And, like always, you tried to wave off his compliment with a self conscious laugh and pushed a hairbrush into his hands before you took a seat at the vanity.
He wondered if you realized how much it meant to him to be allowed to preen your hair. Letting him be so close and personal, to be able to run his gloved talons along your scalp, indulging in ancient instincts to care for his mate as well as enjoying the soft little moans that escaped your throat.
He adored you so much. Every moment he spent around you, the more sure he was that you were meant to be his mate. That he was meant to be yours.
He could only hope you felt the same.
"Is there anything you can't do?" You stated rhetorically as he finished styling your hair, admiring yourself in the mirror before your gaze met his.
"Several things," He answered with a hint of amusement. "After all, until recently, the entirety of the student body feared me. I think the reason I'm seen as more approachable now is thanks to you, Iruma, and the rest of the misfits. However, most students are still considerably wary."
The smile faded on your face, replaced with sadness and pity. He had temporarily forgotten how sympathetic and empathetic humans were, and quickly regretted making your mood fall.
You stood before he could do anything and wrapped your arms around his waist, pressing your head against his chest. It both made things better and harder having your soft warm body against his.
"Let me do your hair?" You offered after a moment.
And, well - he couldn't say no to that.
Soon your places were switched, and your fingers were combing through hair that was starting to be unruly. Like every time, he felt himself relax into your touch. Even the annoying instincts stirred by your scent calmed as you worked.
"I am so lucky to have you," You admitted quietly after a long moment, meeting his gaze in the mirror. "You are more than I could ever have hoped for, Shichiro. And I…" You trailed off, but he could see it in your face, in those beautiful eyes of yours. And honestly, he felt the same. Years of thinking his life would be dedicated to Babyls and its students--not a bad life, though certainly lonely in a way.
Shichiro took your hand and pressed your palm to his lips.
Because Devi, he felt exactly the same.
He loved you.

The Alef Part 3
(Part three!
I want to build the reader’s relationship with our “Not-gang” so we’ll be having a school episode for a little bit.)
( Part 2 ; Masterlist )
_________________________________________________________
The following weeks were eerily uneventful. You at least expected some kind of backlash from brutally humiliating the ethos batra. But so far, nothing happened.
Even Opera’s activity had come to a strange lull.
Almost like there was underlying tension growing somewhere...
Nah!
You were fine, everything was fine, and it’ll stay that way so long as you stay under the radar. It would’ve been nice if some excitement came your way every now and then though...
Little did you know how much you’d regret that thought.
~~~
This time, you’re pretty much coerced by your teacher to go eat lunch in the cafeteria. So now you’re stuck looking for a quiet pocket to enjoy your lunch. You spot Balam and Kalego by the very noticeable split from them and the rest of the demons, and after much hesitation, take a seat across from them.
There’s a bout of awkward silence as you internally debate whether or not to bother with small talk or to at least spare them of the endeavor.
That is until the decision is made for you by a certain Cat Demon.
“O-OPERA! SENPAI!”
“pfft!”
...
Oh you’re dead, you’re so dead. You didn’t mean to laugh but Kalego’s face was too funny.
“I-I’m sorry I didn’t mean to laugh I swear! pfHa-!” You mute yourself. You can’t hold it anymore as Kalego’s face warped further.
“Such lively, Kouhai. Anyways, lunch is over. You’re coming with me.”
“But…”
“No.”
And with that he picks up Balam and runs.
“B-Balam-kun!?”
“SHICHIRO.”
~~~
Opera smirks at the three of you, “Today, we’ll be taking out the trash. But, in order to use all of you efficiently, I’ve decided we’re going to traumatize them.”
“Huh?” Yes, brilliant, wonderful, such grace, much eloquence.
“As your wonderful Senpai what kind of Senpai would I be if I didn’t help my Kouhai grow.”
As he relays the plan, you grow paler and paler as your soul continues to leave your body. You had to sound proof the room, sneak in, mute the room, and play ghost with Kalego and Balam.
“If you think you can’t do it, just say so.”
Then again... if you said no, they’d probably go in there and beat them all up again... and then you’d have to mute them for at least half a day... you’ll die before you get home.
“Ah, she’s crying.” Ah yes, ever so blunt, Kalego.
“It’s fine. I can do it.”
Deep breaths, stand up, let’s go.
Patting Balam’s silvery locks (ooh! so soft!), and offering a handshake to Kalego (you don’t wanna die trying to touch his fluffy dark beau- N o don’t pet.) You coat all of you in your mana and, already feeling the strain, side step your way into the ethos batra as a larger group walks in.
You immediate cover your mouth and nose at the pungent smell of cheap cigarettes and stale chips. The two behind you have similar expressions, Kalego’s reflecting deep disgust and Balam trying to keep his lunch down.
There was so much junk in that room, what- is that a body pillow?!
Regardless, it helped you move around the room, hugging the wall and using the trash as cover as you got to work.
Pretty soon it was done, and you give Kalego and Balam a nod as you mute the room.
Watch, they’re panicking, they’re fighting, they’re screaming, they’re crying, and a wicked grin crosses your face. Mute, unmute, Mute, unmute.
You let out an audible giggle, before moving to another spot out of sight.
“WHO’S THE-” mute.
Unmute, laugh, mute.
Unmute .
“I can’t decide~
Whether You should live or die~”
You sing sweet and slow, reaching for the light switch you add flickering effects.
“F-FREAK! WHERE ARE Y-” Mute.
Turn off the lights, and... release the hounds.
The visage of cerberous flickering in their peripherals further threw them into a frenzy, and whenever they tried to escape or fight, Balam easily threw them back into a pile.
Then comes Opera. He bashes down the door, and stands before them like a blessing, a gentle intervention.
But no.
This was judgement day.
So anyways, you started swinging.
Or well, Opera did most of that... you weren’t as combat proficient... yet.
And soon enough, you took down the Ethos batra.
Letting out a sigh, you splay on the floor and drop the mute zones. You weren’t out of mana but the whole ordeal was...
Exciting! Fun! You feel...!
“Good job, Kouhai. I’ll leave the clean up to you.”
“... Huh?”  Yes, brilliant, wonderful, such grace, much eloquence.

Since Jewish conversion often takes months if not years, what happens if a prospective convert dies before completing their conversion? Would they be allowed a Jewish funeral and to be buried in a Jewish cemetery if their Rabbi was sure they'd have completed it had they lived or are they barred from that since they never really became Jewish? Or is it more of a case-by-case scenario?
This...is complicated, and it depends who you ask. There's no definitive answer.
I'm not a Rabbi, and certainly not your Rabbi, and anything I say shouldn't be taken as Rabbinical authority. But here's a very very brief summary of the different perspectives and debates on the matter:
Here's a quote from a chapter in Tradition: A Journal of Orthodox Thought by Rabbi Moshe Yares reading
"R. Hayyim Eleazar Shapira, discussing in Responsa Minhat Elazar the prohibition of accepting for Jewish burial the child of a non-Jewish mother, raises inter alia the question of a non-Jew who underwent circumcision le-shem gerut but died prior to the tevilah. R. Shapira felt that in this case it would only be logical to allow burial in a Jewish cemetery. As to whether a distance of eight amot is needed to separate such a grave from other Jewish graves, R. Shapira does not reach a definite eondusion. In all of these cases there was no completed gerut; yet the deceased was accepted for burial in the Jewish cemetery." [page 64]
Here is a detailed responsa by the Rabbinical Assembly (Consevative/Masorti Judaism) regarding the burial of non-Jewish loved ones, and an important quote:
"A thousand-year custom should be respected and not lightly discarded. Nevertheless, we live in different times. Our relations to non-Jews are very different than in the past. Many of us have non-Jews in our families. All of us know non-Jews who are strongly connected to the Jewish community although they have chosen not to convert and retain their status as nonJews. In regard to the question of interfaith marriages, we must be sensitive to their feelings and make them feel welcome in our communities. In addition, non-Jewish spouses and children who are involved in our synagogues, while not Jewish, are nevertheless part of our community. Our tradition has continually evolved in our understanding and differentiation of non-Jews. We must respect those who have married Jews and have raised Jewish families and are connected to the Jewish community. Since there is no specific prohibition in the Bible or the Talmud and the first mention of a prohibition is Rashi’s interpretation, special provisions should be made to allow the non-Jewish spouses and children to be buried in Jewish cemeteries, in specially designated sections that are separated from the rest of the Jewish cemetery by a path or a road." [page 12]
And here is an "ask the rabbi" article in the Jerusalem Post briefly summing up different movement's perspectives, and a quote:
"With some controversy, subtle special separations are sometimes created, with the non- Jewish graves on cemetery outskirts or separated from their neighbors by decorative bushes.
Rabbi Yehuda Shaviv (Tehumin 14), citing a potential talmudic precedent (Bava Batra 10a), has suggested that this practice might not be necessary in military cemeteries built to bury comrades-in-arms without distinction.
He further noted a 17th-century opinion that allows Jews and non-Jews who died together to be buried in the same courtyard (Bach YD 151).
WHILE THE REFORM movement allowed for interfaith interment in the early 20th century, the American Conservative movement has just recently authorized the establishment of separate sections within Jewish cemeteries for interfaith couples, reflecting the growing sociological pressure of intermarriage within that denomination."
Basically, it's complicated, and it's something that's been debated for literally thousands of years. Nowadays it really depends which movement the individual was converting into. But even many Orthodox Rabbis agree that provisions should be made for people who died in the midst of conversion or non-Jewish relatives of Jews, both kinds of people who while not technically Jewish, are still very much members of the Jewish community. Whether it means having a "mixed" section of a cemetery or not having Jewish symbols on the grave marker or not having any distinctions at all, it really depends. It's what we like to call a Makhloket- a disagreement.

It’s easy to mistake Yom Kippur for a somber occasion. Many of the traditions observed on Yom Kippur — abstaining from eating, drinking, and marital relations, or swapping out leather shoes for sneakers or Crocs — are also prohibited on Tisha B’Av, the saddest day of the Jewish calendar, and other days of communal mourning. Unlike many Jewish holidays, it isn’t exactly commonplace to wish your loved ones a “happy Yom Kippur.”
But Jewish texts don’t see the Day of Atonement as a sad day at all. In fact, Yom Kippur is described as one of the two happiest days of the year, rivaling only Tu B’Av, the Jewish celebration of love (Mishnah Taanit 4:8).
The main reason for this is connected to the overarching theme of Yom Kippur: repentance. The central prayers of the day — the haunting Kol Nidre, the confessional Viddui (recited while gently striking the heart), and Unetaneh Tokef among them — push us to acknowledge and atone for our transgressions, and carry a serious and somber tone. But it is precisely the promise of forgiveness that makes the day one of joy.
“Yom Kippur is a day of joy, because it is a day of pardon and forgiveness, and moreover, it is the day on which the last pair of tablets were given,” the Talmud teaches in Bava Batra 121a. (The Talmud also understands Yom Kippur to be the day that God presented the Israelites with the second set of tablets after Moses shattered the first.) According to the Midrash, the day is also one of joy for God, who gave Yom Kippur to the Jewish people with “great love and joy.” The Midrash continues, saying that God exclaims to the mountains: “Celebrate with Me! Let all rejoice, for I am forgiving Israel’s sins!” (Seder Eliyahu Rabbah). Maimonides described the day as the “climax of forgiveness.”
With regard to what is perhaps the best-known custom associated with Yom Kippur — fasting — the Talmud (Shabbat 119a) teaches that fasting is required as a way to honor God, rather than as an expression of grief. The festive meal traditionally eaten before Yom Kippur begins is further proof of this, according to Yona of Girona, a 12th-century Spanish sage, who wrote: “On all holidays we have a meal to express joy in the performance of the mitzvah of Yom Kippur, but since we must fast on Yom Kippur, we are obligated to have a meal on Erev Yom Kippur in order to express our joy.” (Shaarei Teshuvah 4:9)
Even though it’s easy to assume that abstaining from many of the things that typically bring us joy is meant to invoke misery, Jewish tradition suggests otherwise. The many prohibitions on the Day of Atonement allow us to disconnect from the material world and focus on repair and repentance for our sins. While owning up to our spiritual wrongdoings can feel daunting, there is great joy to be found in knowing that God sees the opportunity to forgive as nothing short of a celebration.

“I second this concern,” Omen spoke.
“Ahh, you all know well my priority is not necessarily the protocol’s priority. I want to destroy Kingdom. Any step we take to get to stomping that ant hill is worth it.”
“Fine. You and me alone. We can’t spare too many agents. Not with the Batra group out and our focus on Omega Earth. Fade will take up your work. We leave tomorrow morning. Killjoy please send both of us the information we will need for this mission.” Sova stood, neatly stacking his papers.

Five years ago, Nikita Batra failed to catch a killer. Leaving her failure behind in Spofford, she’s worked hard to forge a new life for herself. Now the killer has returned - and has an unhealthy fixation on her.
She’s older now, and wiser - will she be able to finally put her past to rest?
Chapter 3 - Feel the fury closing in
“Well, this is… not good,” Nikita sighs, staring down at the body in the opening of the alleyway. An elderly, wizened woman is sprawled out ungainly on the pavement, her eyes opaque with the sheen of death, white hair stark against the dirty concrete surface. “You’re getting the scent?”
“Oh, yeah,” Maaka nods, his eyes flicking over the rooftops and searching the area. “Our guy was definitely here.”
“Not his usual type of victim,” she frowns, dropping to her haunches, reaching out with gloved hands to open the slender black clutch lying next to the dead woman. Erika Gallagher, the driver’s license declares, the photograph of a young woman with dark brown hair and deep blue eyes. “This doesn’t make any sense,” she mutters, staring at the i.d. “This can’t be the same woman… can it?” [Read on AO3] [Start from the beginning]

❝The collapse of the Roman Empire is a few pages in your high school history book, but in reality it took nearly 250 years. Generations lived WHOLE lives inside of the collapse—which is EXACTLY where we are right now—that our WHOLE lives will be lived inside of those few pages called 'collapse.'❞ —David Sirota (@davidsirota)
❝One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It's simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we've been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.❞ —Carl Sagan
❝It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.❞ ―Thomas Sowell
Keep people as slaves and pets LONG enough—and, eventually they will SEE their kidnappers as saviors.
❝Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think that I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it.❞ ―John Lennon
❝This planet is obviously being used as an insane asylum by other planets.❞ ―George Bernard Shaw
❝Propaganda works best when those who are being manipulated are confident they are acting on their own free will.❞ —Joseph Goebbels
❝Alas, mental slavery is the worst form of slavery. It gives one the illusion of freedom, makes one trust, love and defend one's oppressor, while making an enemy of those who are trying to free you, and to open your eyes.❞ ―Anonymous
❝American government is corrupt.  Those who have enough money can almost get anything they want from our government, whether it is tax breaks, or subsidies, or policies and laws changed, removed or added.  Many have taken advantage of this from oil companies, utilities, HMOs, pharmaceutical companies, prison corporations, defense contractors, logging companies, and so on.❞ —Ravi Batra, 'The NEW Golden Age'
For George Soros, the chief sponsor of the subversive system on display.  Of course he has his backers ... check
 the bankers—I mean 'BANKSTERS.'  They DEVALUE honesty itself!
❝The wheels are slowly coming off the globalization train.❞ —Laura Ingraham
❝Divisions among the oppressed are gifts to the oppressor.❞ —Hasan
ALAS, the spiral of social disintegration is picking up speed, fellow peons and plebeians—ALL deliberate, ALL planned—and the public be damned!  What?  THIS IS NEW???
