i don't want to make this month about discourse, because most discourse is arbitrary and pointless at best, and self-destructive and dangerous at worst. but happy pride month to all queer people in the community that have been targets of exclusion, abuse, or erasure by certain jerks in the community.
trans people, intersex people, black queers, aces/aros, mspecs, neopronoun users, xenogender people, transhets, gnc queer people, multigender people, people who use microlabels, mspec lesbians/gays, polyamorous people, queers with split attraction, and any other groups who have been targets of abuse, exclusion, or erasure by other queer people who should have had their backs.
i don't need to tell you that you're valid because it's not for me or anyone else to decide that your way of describing yourself is "invalid." you are the only person who can label yourself in a way that is fulfilling to you- and if that means not labelling yourself at all, that's great too! but i love you. i'm proud of you for existing, despite the fact that you have to deal with some queer exclusionists hating you on top of the queermisia from non-queers. your existence is beautiful. your queerness is beautiful. be proud of yourself, because you deserve to be.
love you. have a wonderful month, because you deserve to celebrate it just as much as every other queer person <3
and to the exclusionists in question: you don't get to blame the rest of us for hating you when you help make queer spaces unsafe for queer people. worrying about how other queer people identify is such a waste of time, because they're going to identify that way no matter what you think. your opinions on other peoples' validity means absolutely nothing. you are wasting valuable time that you could be using to be proud of your own queerness instead of reveling in your misery about other queer people daring to exist in a way you don't like. so try changing and growing as a person and stop spending all of your time worrying about what other gay people are doing.

Perisex allies: stop this shit
CW: intersexism
Came across this infographic during some google image searching and I'm still kind of a state of despair about it because it's not just offensively wrong about what intersex is, it was used to teach university students about queer issues:
Tumblr media
Alt text: LGBTQIA+ are defined one by one. Intersex is defined erroneously as "These are people who were born with genital organs of both sexes (male and female). It is a genetic condition."
It's one thing for your rando perisex person to be getting this wrong on social media. It's another thing entirely when it's professionals getting this wrong in an educational setting. 😩 And that this infographic appears in a peer-reviewed publication. 😩
It's even worse to know the students that were taught with this infographic were medical students, who will be the ones traumatizing intersex people for decades to come 😩
It's so wrong in so many different ways:
Intersex is not limited to people with genital differences. Most intersex people have intersex variations that are not apparent at birth, with puberty being the most common time of life for variations to present. Many people find out in adulthood having no outward physical differences.
Of the intersex people with genital differences, they do not have two sets of genitals. Most genital differences are still recognizably female or male (e.g. spadias), and those who have ambiguous genitals have one set.
Intersex is not "male parts + female parts" or even "intermediate male/female parts", it is an umbrella term for anybody whose primary/secondary sex characteristics don't line up with what is expected for male and female bodies. Some intersex variations make women look more feminine, or make men look more masculine.
Defining intersex by genital differences doesn't just exclude most intersex people, it also sets the tone that we are defined by our genitals. To be publicly intersex is to have non-stop DMs about your genitals. This sort of framing sets up openly intersex people for invasive questions and harassment, and it keeps large numbers of intersex people from coming out.
Many intersex variations do not have a known genetic basis. Many intersex variations are caused by exposure to certain hormonal levels in the womb. Certain medications when taken during pregnancy can trigger intersex variations.
While bodily variation is necessary for being intersex, the social experience of stigma, discrimination, isolation, hyper-medicalization, and hyper-sexualization are all just as much a part of being intersex.
📣 Perisex allies: this is shit you can stop. When you see other perisex people parrot this sort of misinformation, correct them. Direct them to look up resources written by actually intersex people.
Here are some starter resources to give:

A little rant about the term AF/MAB being used in place of perisex AF/MAB and ignoring intersex people's complex identities because they are intersex.
Cw: intersexism and mention of sexual anatomy (genitals)
People need to stop using afab/amab when talking about trans issues or cultural identities!! You erase intersex people with it, you think amab = perisex males and afab = perisex females. You all seem to forget even when your intersex afab/amab should be avoided!! You can use it on YOURSELF, but to say oh transfems are 'amab' who are traditioning to a more feminine identity, just erasing so many intersex people. I was IAFAB (intersex assumed female at birth), yet I was raised in a mostly masculine way / I was raised closer to a boy than a girl. Does that mean I suddenly can't claim to be transfem or claim my cultural identities related to being transfem because historically, people assumed it was always perisex AMAB raised male who later transitioned? No, im still going to claim them because its between me, my culture, and the fact its MY identity, which is going to be complex. Being intersex is complex and affects my gender in almost every way. So simply watering down being trans to your biological sex is again really fuckin weird.
Instead of using AMAB/AFAB, please just find alternatives like non perisex [term here] instead of just assigned blank at birth. I see even other intersex people do this and while it's 'historically accurate,' it again erases our people and our struggles with gender. Just like TME/A was created with perisex people in mind so was the whole Internet suddenly deciding A[term]AB = perisex. You can look at afab tags and tell its about PERISEX females and almost always completely ignores the fact intersex people can be afab and not have a uterus or ovaries or some afab intersex people have penises, testicles, or a mix of both. (I use AFAB because it's just a more popular tag and we were assumed female at birth.)

feel free to ignore, cws for intersexism, salmacian community, drama that u do not need to waste energy on
as a questioning intersex person who's been around the perimeter of salmacian community spaces, they're deeply intersexist. "well-meaning" for sure, but difficult to navigate. endosex experiences are centered most of the time even when supposedly welcoming intersex voices. there was one discussion in the discord server a while back where folks were discussing intersexist terms used by some in the community to describe themselves and it was, despite the moderators intentions or whatever, deeply hostile. very heated, very quickly, and no opportunity to anonymously engage if you did not feel comfortable voicing an opinion amidst a flood of defensiveness.
some of the people involved were intersex, too, but that did not change that the atmosphere and handling did and continues to center perisex desires over intersex experiences and needs. ive felt really alienated there bc i just cannot relate to the majority of themdespite supposedly sharing similar euphoria. in fact, knowing more now about my bodymind, id say the experiences are pretty substantially different.
ive never seen a thoughtful defense of the term, and appreciate you going in more depth analyzing it. that should not be on you, but doing so helped this person. hope youre getting some rest in and staying cool.
honestly i appreciate this ask! it's rare that other people are like, actually honest and willing to acknowledge the intersexism in those spaces. i want people to be able to build community and share experiences and find relief from dysphoria/celebrate euphoria, but not at the expense of other intersex people. and i think until people are willing to listen and understand why so many intersex people are feeling hurt and angry about the dynamics in these spaces, things are just going to continue to become more and more exclusive of intersex people.
hope you have a good day as well, anon.

[updated Dec 10 2023]
New BYF, as promised!
We'd rather not have a DNI anymore, simply because since this is a side blog, we can't block people from this blog, and it feels kind of pointless. If you still want to interact, well, we can't stop you, just know what you're getting yourself into 👍🏻
About the blog
This is a side blog
We're very much queer, so everything LGBTQ+ -misic will be thrown into the sun. This includes but is not limited to TERFs, TEHMs, "non-binary sceptics", transmysogyny, and transmisandry. We're pro mspec gays and lesbians, lesboys/lesbian trans men, turigirls/turian trans women, AFAB transfems and AMAB transmasc, and all contradictory identities (in good faith).
We're anarcho-socialists. Racism, xenophobia, cop propaganda, and all the alt-right shit will be thrown into the sun too.
We're collectively pro endogenic plurals, anti tulpa (as in, the word "tulpa"), but keep out of the "are endo valid???" syscourse. Yes they are. There are so many other things to discuss in syscourse (✨the racism✨) and you can't debate away people's existence.
The best anon hate will be kept as a win trophy for being extremely annoying on tumblr. Maybe hung up on the wall in our room. We love this shit
Feel free to send in any questions that you might have and that aren't listed here!
What we will do
Combo flags
Moodboards
Flag coining
Term coining
We will coin everything that is within our power to do - things related to AvPD, StPD, SzPD, (polyfragmented) DID, (C-)PTSD and Bipolar; things related to Shinto, Confucianism, and Hellenism; things related to alterhumanity, especially fictionkin, otherkin, otherhearted, and therian.
We will not coin flags and terms related to things that aren't in our experience, or simply that we are uncomfortable with.
We generally reserve the right to not do something for whatever reason.
About us
We're 23, bodily (08/18)
We are collectively celestian, queer, voidpunk; aroace spec, tulipian, and omni gay
Our collective pronouns are they/them, e/em/es, and ae/aer
We're Italian, white, and perisex
We have a few mental disorders, namely StPD with AvPD and SzPD traits. We also have mixed features dysthymia, C-DID, and C-PTSD.
We have a few physical disorders, namely chronic pain, hearing loss, migraines, and rheumatoid arthritis. We don't always have the spoons to provide IDs but will try our best, and will tag #no id and/or #eyestrain cw
You can call us Aaron as it's our collective name, and will try to tag specific alters
We might have forgotten something. Feel free to ask anytime for anything you want to know!

hi Griffin! I hope you don't mind me asking this, but you're one of the only people I follow who's openly intersex and the posts you make are really good so I wanted to ask a question about intersex stuff.
TLDR for below:
I'm questioning intersex (specifically complex/undetermined) but for personal reasons I would not want to ask my parents for my history OR be tested for/diagnosed with anything by doctors. There is still a possibility that I'm perisex though. Would it be disrespectful to involve myself in intersex communities, or self diagnose as intersex?
A lot more context if you feel like reading: [cw for literally just the word genitalia used in its proper context]
I'm transmasculine and previously thought myself to be perisex, but I am questioning a few intersex conditions that I don't want to be tested for. I've recently gone on HRT so my hormones would look weird anyway. Another thing is that my mom told me that I was given estrogen cream as a young child for a "small and non-harmful birth defect [of the genitalia]", but she didn't tell me what it was and now all I know is that I look completely perisex.
I am deeply uncomfortable by the estrogen cream thing and for more personal reasons don't want to ask any more about it. I am hoping I would be welcomed into the intersex community because I've had a lot of complicated feelings since childhood about my sex and it would finally validate and explain those (past being trans) BUT I am also worried that I may be accidentally fetishizing if I am perisex and looking too deep into it.
Do I need to take a step back at all? Or is it okay to involve myself in intersex communities/possibly call myself intersex despite not wanting a diagnosis?
I can’t tell you if you’re intersex or not, but… what happened to you sounds traumatic and uncomfortable, and I’m sorry that you went through that. unfortunately many of us in the intersex community relate to that kind of horrible medical treatment, so you’re not alone
I’m only one person, but my experiences of intersex communities is that they’re generally pretty open and accepting. there are many reasons someone might not be able to find out if they’re intersex for certain, and a lot of people are understanding of that
so yeah — I think it would be fine for you to continue finding connections in intersex communities, especially if being a part of those communities helps you to work through your complex feelings
I wish you all the best in coming to terms with a (possibly) intersex identity

very very funny how intersex transfems are by far the most vocal haters of tme/tma as binary terms because of the way that perisex people use them to discredit intersex trans people's complex experiences. but sure it's just those horrible afab trans people again!!

@afipiafelis wrote a really interesting-sounding book! I can't reblog the post for some reason but I KNOW this is in some of y'all's wheelhouses, so please check it out if the below appeals to you:
> Reader-insert horror romance
>> As in, it's a horror novel, and the romance part is also best described as "horror"
> Reader insert character described as having cis, perisex/dyadic woman anatomy, uses she/her pronouns
> Toxic/unhealthy relationships, obsession
> Mind games countered with wit and poise
> Power dynamics!
> Marriage of...convenience? Love? Both? Neither? Let's leave it as "for elusive purposes" for now
> Smut!
There is an actual, professional blurb in the post itself – highly encourage y'all to check it out – and the author has also provided a full list of content warnings for the book itself.
I am confident this could turn out to be someone's favorite book, and apparently there's a second installment planned...

Proposing some intersex gender modality & transition terms
So there are a whole bunch of different ways that intersex people can be/identify as trans. I've been thinking about what names would be useful for articulating these differences and in this post I'll list what I've got so far. 🧑‍🔬
I'm hoping to get feedback on these, so if you have feedback let me know! 💛 I expect to edit this post, to incorporate feedback and further ideas.
CW: mention of IGM and forced HRT
Types of transitions
Distransition: a medical transition forced upon an intersex person, such as through IGM or forced HRT. Dis- to indicate the negative aspect of the transition being coercive, as well as to connote disability since this process is so frequently traumatic and/or disability-causing. In disability studies language it's a form of debility (disability caused through systemic violence).
Mistransition: a distransition (forced transition) that is not in alignment with a person's gender identity. Mis- to indicate the incorrectness of the alignment as well as to maintain a negative connotation because this is a coercive transition.
Entransition: a consensual transition done by an intersex person. Contrast to distransition. En- acts as an opposite to dis- and also to me indicates a level of intent (e.g. envision, enact, enliven). It also serves to indicate that transition is different for intersex bodies than for perisex bodies.
Retransition: an entransition done by an intersex person who previously had been distransitioned. I.e. when an intersex person does a second transition to undo, alter, or improve a forced transition. Re- to indicate a second transition, but also that it's a revision of the first one. EDIT #1: This term is not intersex exclusive, and may also be used by perisex trans people who have transitioned multiple times. EDIT #2: For an intersex-exclusive version, I suggest "re-entransition", combining re- and en-.
Retrotransition: a retransition that is done to undo the effects of forced transition. So an intersex person who, after being forced into a binary gender, then transitions their body towards a best approximation of what their body's natural state would have been without forced transition. Retro- for backwards to indicate undoing that is worth differentiating from detransitioning.
Laterotransition: a retransition done by an intersex person to a gender that is neither the gender externally imposed by a distransition nor what their body's "natural state" would be. For example, an AFAB AIS person who was coercively transitioned female, who then later transitioned male. Latero- as contrast to retro- (latero- is to the side, antero- is forward) as well as to indicate the turn away from the path set forth externally by parents/doctors.
Anterotransition: a retransition done by an intersex person that continues the direction set forth by previous forced transition. So additional transitioning done by somebody whose gender is in alignment with what was externally imposed. While this will probably be somebody's AGAB, it doesn't have to be - some times intersex people are forcibly transitioned to a different gender than their AGAB.
All of these transitions would have an analogous gender modality. So an entransgender person is somebody who has/is undergoing/intends to entransition. And a retrotransgender person likewise has/is undergoing/intends to retrotransition.
I see distransition and mistransition as potentially useful for intersex people talking about trauma and structural intersexism. I think entransition might be useful for talking about how being intersex and transitioning is frequently different than for perisex people, especially if it is a retransition. And perhaps distransition and anterotransition may be of use to exparium folks.
Personally: I was distransitioned as an adolescent and have recently started a process of medically retrotransitioning.
Feedback welcome! A list of revisions will go at the bottom of this post. Will make flags for terms once I feel satisfied with them.
Edits
2024-01-16: I've been informed by @chipbutbetter that retrans is already used by some perisex folks with complicated transition patterns, so I have edited to say this term should not be intersex exclusive. Thanks! 🏳️‍⚧️
2024-01-16: thought about an intersex-specific version of retransition and landed on "re-entransition". A little awkward but combines both retransition and entransition! Flexible on whether to include a hyphen (reentransition).

“Individuals have a sexual nature which cannot be changed at will” is in fact far more compatible with at least a “born this way” trans-positive politics than it is with the classification and “correction” of infants with ambiguous genitalia, but no prize for guessing which one of those the Catholic Church takes it to support and which they take it to refute.

Just to be clear: If you purposefully drop the I from your acronym, I don’t trust you.
If you deliberately and persistently use acronyms like QULTBAG, MOGA, and LGBTQA(+)/LGBTA(+)*, I am immediately skeptical of the idea that you have intersex people’s best interests at heart and have taken the time to actually listen to us (other than maybe the intersex people you already agree with). And I understand that some perisex people are worried about starting discourse that they have no place in anyway; they drop the I to avoid being confronted by an angry intersex person who doesn’t want to be included and feels like they’ve been spoken over. Whether or not that’s a thing intersex people actually do, the important thing here is to acknowledge that we’ve already had this discussion: “The I Doesn’t Mean You.”
But apart from that, we also have to recognize that “LGBTQ community” is not synonymous with “LGBTQ people.”
The LGBTQ community is a way for LGBTQ people to organize, feel included/validated/accepted, and work together to accomplish common goals (such as opposing & destabilizing cisheterosexism & cisheteronormativity). Not every individual LGBTQ person has to be a part of our community. Racists, ableists, misogynists, “MAPs,” and transphobes, for example, do not belong in our community. People who, for one reason or another, don’t want to be associated with the community should not be forced into it.
It is no different for intersex people. Or, rather, it should be no different, but the question continues to be asked: Are intersex people inherently oppressed under the specific institutions of cisheteronormativity/cisheterosexism? And the answer from intersex people has repeatedly been, “Many of us (especially those who are otherwise non-cis and/or non-het) feel that, yes, the institutions of perisexism and cissexism largely overlap in some places, and we are therefore marginalized on both axes of oppression (albeit likely to varying degrees case by case).” And this is often followed up by, “Hence, it is only natural that we are given our own space within the LGBTQ community to discuss our specific oppression, organize, feel accepted, and work with other members of the community to fight against our shared oppression.”
All of this should, by this point, be widely understood and accepted, as this conversation has been going on for years now, but I get why there are some perisex people who still haven’t quite got it yet (it’s mostly that they don’t want to end up speaking for us without knowing every nuance to this issue). Even so I really can’t help it that my first reaction when seeing a perisex person intentionally drop the I or make note every time they see the I that not all intersex people want to be included is to assume they have some perisexist tendancies (if they’re not outright interphobic).
I guess I don’t really have some sweeping concluding statement to tie this all together. I just felt like sharing that I’m tired of having to think of my identity as a point of contention within my own community. And I don’t care if, in your heart of hearts, you truly believe that intersex people deserve a place in the community. If you don’t show that with your actions by making us feel included and accepted—meaning those of us who want to be accepted and included; if you can’t even do something as simple as tacking an I onto the end of an acronym—then what is the point?
-
*I don’t include LGBT(+) or LGBTQ(+) here since these are often used as shorter alternatives by even the most inclusive folks (as the ‘+’ is meant to be all-encompassing).
I normally wouldn’t make this request, but perisex people: you’re encouraged to reblog, but please don’t make this post all about you.

Generally, people (who aren’t transmisogynists that speak over trans women and brush aside our issues) seem to understand at this point that “f*mboy” is a transmisogynistic slur and transmisogyny-exempt people shouldn’t reclaim it. But I think it’s important to have a discussion about how the meme itself also ties into transmisogynistic fetishism, so that’s what I’ll be attempting to explain today.
CW/TW: Transmisogyny; perisexism; misgendering; talk of porn, fetishism, and genitals; uncensored slurs; homomisia mention; minor p*dophilia mention
The origins of the current mainstream image/meme of the femboy can be traced back to the anime/manga trope of the futanari, which is the Japanese word for hermaphrodite. In anime/manga (particularly hentai), a futanari character is a woman (or feminine humanoid) who is often quite voluptuous/attractive and who possesses a penis (sometimes in addition to a vagina and sometimes without testicles). The perceived “discordance” between an attractive woman and her possession of a penis is what the people attracted to futanari (usually cishet men) find at once jarring and enticing. It’s the simultaneous perisexist and transmisogynistic fetishization of the idea of intersex people’s and trans women’s bodies and denial of the idea that our bodies could even exist outside of these fantasies, rendering them “safe for consumption.”
However, our bodies can, of course, exist outside of fiction and fantasy, which leads us to the discussion (which is deeply rooted in homomisic anxiety) of whether or not it’s “gay” for men to be attracted to “real life futanari” — Are you gay if the woman you find attractive turns out to have a penis? Enter the concept of “traps.” In anime, a trap is a boy who disguises himself as a girl, intentionally leads others to assume he’s a girl from his appearance, and often reveals himself to be (or is sometimes forcibly outed as) a boy only after other male characters (and, by proxy, the assumed straight male audience) have expressed interest in or attraction to him, shocking and embarrassing them. It is meant to be a source of comedy much of the time, but the narrative rarely questions the possibility that this character may identify as transfeminine and deserves to have their identity respected. They are always assumed to be cis boys who either simply enjoy looking like girls or have an ulterior motive for tricking people into thinking they are a girl.
When people started to realize that this was and is an extremely transmisogynistic trope (the idea that gay men will disguise themselves as women to “trick” straight men into sleeping with them is often applied to trans women and frequently seen as the only way a cis man could possibly be attracted to us), they decided to change the name of the game: Enter femboys. Femboys often look exactly like the standard trap — a very young, semi-androgynous, flat-chested, thin, white anime girl — though they’re frequently depicted even more salaciously because the artist has no reason to “conceal their masculine traits,” instead drawing attention to their genitals.
The default reasoning people use as to why this concept isn’t transmisogynistic is that femboys are gender-nonconforming boys who aren’t trying to trick anyone into believing that they’re girls. Unlike futanari, they aren’t meant to be women, and unlike traps, their appearances aren’t meant to be “deceptive.” However, this argument completely ignores that half of the issue with traps and futanari is that they are a fetish. In every instance, a great deal of emphasis is placed on the penis — it’s shocking and unexpected; it’s connotative of a cis boy in disguise; it’s accentuation goes hand-in-hand with male femininity, designating male femininity as inherently erotic. Trans women on this site have discussed this before, but the term “femboy” is literally used in porn to denote a fetish of transfeminine people. And it’s used right alongside other transmisogynistic slurs.
And these concepts — that trans women can be summed up as “women with penises,” that we’re an erotic curiosity to be simulated, that we’re inhuman, hermaphrodites, or “in-betweens,” that we’re men who want to trick other men into sleeping with us, etc. — are what get us reduced to our genitals, reduced to our assigned genders, dehumanized, and even killed. This is what you’re contributing to when you normalize the fetishization of “femboys,” the fetishization of the juxtaposition between a feminine presentation with a so-called “masculine” biology. If supporting trans women and fighting against transmisogyny matter more to you than just the appearance of being an ally, cut it out.
