JAHRHUNDERT 1611 Das heutige Museum, 1541 als Wohnhaus von Amtmann Bernhard von Hardheim erbaut, erhält durch Ambrosius Brösamer Erker, Stuckdecken und steinerne Wendeltreppe. 1625 wird das Gebäude Amtskellerei. 1615-1629 Hexenprozesse in Miltenberg: 453 Personen geraten in den Verdacht der Hexerei, 69 werden hingerichtet. Das Mainzer Gebiet um Miltenberg gehört zu den Hauptverfolgungsgebieten des Hexenwahns. Frauen und Männer sind in gleicher Anzahl betroffen. Zu den Ursachen gehören die häufigen Ernteausfälle bei Wein und Getreide und der wirtschaftliche Neid. 1619 Miltenberg hat 560 Wohnhäuser und über 3.000 Einwohner. Von Weinbau und Weinhandel ernähren sich 112 Familien. 1618-1648 Im Dreißigjährigen Krieg erweist sich die günstige Verkehrslage als Nachteil: Ständige Truppendurchzüge und Kontributionen zerstören die wirtschaftliche Blüte der Stadt. Am Ende verteilt sich eine auf die Hälfte reduzierte Einwohnerschaft auf nur noch 300 Häuser. 1630 Der Franziskanerorden läßt sich in Miltenberg nieder. 1631-1634 Die Schweden unter Gustav Adolf bringen die Pest. 1640-1648 Die Stadt wird mehrmals geplündert, die Weinberge zerstört und der Wald abgeholzt. 1667 Bau des Franziskanerklosters am Engelplatz. Vom Weinbau ernähren sich nur noch 45 Familien, während der Ackerbau an Bedeutung gewinnt. Fischer und Schiffer werden bis ins 19.
