I def agree that Nimona's story was a major trans allegory for sure, but also as a queer person in general the whole "maybe I wouldn't die, but I sure wouldn't be living" thing resonated so hard, and like especially as a bisexual person.

Cuz being bi+ there's a lot of pressure from both sides to pick one, either be gay or be straight, and it gets way worse when we're in a relationship, bcs people will say shit like "oh well you're a woman dating a man, so you're straight now, why do you keep talking about being bi?" or vice-versa, like people don't understand why recognizing my indentity is important outside of the context of a relationship, and it's so frustrating bcs yeah like, maybe from the outside it looks like I'm straight, and maybe I could just be quiet and ignore my identity and I'd wouldn't die, but...I wouldn't be living.

And it was wild too bcs a few months back I was talking with my fiancé, who's also bi, and kinda venting cuz I'd seen some of that kind of biphobia in the wild and it'd upset me, and I remember saying something so similar. Like "I could probably just shut up and pretend I'm not bisexual, but that would feel like a death, like some part of me had died, I wouldn't be able to really live" so to hear Nimona say basically the exact same thing? Instant tears. I've never felt more understood.

And even with the other parts of myself, being asexual and trying to figure out what sort of relationship I want to have to my gender, so often I see people say stuff like "why do you have to tell other people that you're ace" and "if you're not going to transition at all why does your gender identity matter" and it's like because this is my authentic self and expressing that is the only way I can feel like my life is worth living!!

It's just so nice to hear that put into words, and I have a feeling a lot of queer people of all identities could relate in that moment, bcs we all hear the refrain of "why can't you just keep this to yourself and pretend you're normal" over and over again from ignorant people, some who mean well and some who very much Do Not, and Nimona is right! Maybe some of us wouldn't die outright, but for a lot of us a life spent hiding who we are, stuffing ourselves in boxes for the comfort of others, trying desperately to seem normal, it simply isn't a life where we're truly living.

Anyway rambling over, this movie is just so good and so queer and ough I can't stop crying about it T-T

augh i’m so glad nimona got saved, but ALSO it deserves so much more than netflix! it deserves a theatrical release! it deserves mountains of merch and esp a little nimona toy that can shape shift transformers-style into different creatures!! it deserves a physical copy available on dvd and bluray, so no one needs to worry about having access to it if netflix one day decides to yank it for a tax write-off or some other equally ridiculous reason!!!

Tumblr is going insane for Nimona so I made my whole family sit down to watch it with me and high key it’s not getting ENOUGH attention for how good it is!!!

For real tho I’ve yet to watch some of these scenes without tearing up, it’s funny, the animation is fucking STUNNING (in a different and fun way to all the other stunningly animated movies this year), excellent voice acting, and yeah I was a sobbing mess at the end of it so check it out!! Go into it blind if you can!

- Everyone accuses Ballister of "bringing a monster into our home" SHE ALREADY FUCKING LIVED THERE GOD

- Nimona is unironically a "1000 year old demon or whatever that just LOOKS like a child" but instead of using this fact for weird shit they give her two dads lmao, and it also serves the story in that she’s not experienced at all with complicated relationships and thus can’t fathom why Ballister would want to make up with Ambrosius

- CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG BUT IM PRETTY SURE THE FIRST TIME BALLISTER CALLS HER NIMONA INSTEAD OF “kid” OR SOMETHING IS THE SCENE WHERE HE FINALLY SEES HER FOR WHO SHE IS DONT FUCKING TOUCH ME

- I made a chart for my family to rank all the movies we watch together (because I’m deranged) and my mom turned to me after Nimona ‘died’ and shouted “IF NIMONA DOESNT COME BACK IM GIVING IT A 2!!” lol (she ended up giving it a 7, which is pretty on par with her scores for all the other movies I pick)

REWATCHED NIMONA. SOLID 9/10

#uhhhh me #nimona #the only real issue i had with it was that i wish it ended with nim appearing in the bg unbeknownst to ballister #instead of on a joke #other than that: amazing showstopping #However comma. it was a mistake to watch it with my parents #it felt like running a very horrible marathon #allow me to vent for a bit: right at the beginning my dad was like 'why is the protagonist brown' #and 'is this movie about being gay 😑' #that was like a preliminary litmus test. like if they aren't alright with bal and ambrosius holding hands #then they're definitely not going to be okay with everything else #so the whole time i was like. holding my breath. prepping for the inevitable #luckily at the kiss they just gave unappreciative huffs instead of like. actually saying anything #they just said some off colour stuff that rly pissed me off and i Know it would be impossible to explain why they should be nicer than this #parents ily!! but pls get some better opinions #anyway. enough about all that. i think my parents are too used to normie disney movies
