I met a renegade Christmas Elf on the lam after quiet quitting Santa’s Workshop. Shhh don’t tell! The old man doesn’t know he’s gone - but apparently with the increased performance quotas and the new AI based computer metrics he’s had it. He’s said with cut backs and fewer elves at the North Pole Santa was pressured into a few concessions - they all got a second hot chocolate with tiny floating marshmallows. Außer Plan nach Sumatra

📍INDONESIA

Da wir leider aufgrund einer festsitzenden Erkältung gezwungen waren den Tauchkurs auf Koh Lanta abzusagen, musste ein neuer Plan her. Um die neu gewonnene Zeit sinnvoll zu nutzen und wir auf unseren nächsten Reisebuddy warten mussten, buchten wir einen Flug von Penang (Malaysia) nach Medan auf Sumatra (warum Indonesien erfahrt ihr demnächst).

An diesem Reisetag nutzten wir wirklich alle Verkehrsmittel die es gibt: Grab Taxi zum Bahnhof Hat Yai (mit mautzender Katze im Fußraum des Beifahrersitzes😽), Super alter Dieselzug über die Grenze nach Malaysia, Regionalbahn die dem Polarexpress in Bangkok ähnelte, Menschenüberfüllte Fähre von Butterworth nach Georgetown, Linienbus 401 durch ganz Georgetown zum Flughafen, Flugzeug (Citilink🤬) nach Medan (Indonesien) und Privat Auto nach Bukit Lawang.

Nachdem wir einen schönen Nachmittag mit dem ersten Streetfood Malaysias verbracht hatten, verärgerte uns (und zahlreiche andere Passagiere) die indonesische Fluggesellschaft Citilink, die spontan mal die Gepäckregeln zum neuen Jahr geändert hatte und nun 120€ Gepäckgebühr verlangte. Zwar konnte die freundliche Check-In Angestellte den Preis noch auf 100€ drücken, dennoch war dies ein Vielfaches des Ticketpreises und für uns nicht gerade ein gelungener erster Kontakt mit Indonesien.

Mitten in der Nacht (1Uhr) kamen wir in Bukit Lawang an, wo wir im strömenden Regen zu unserer Unterkunft liefen. Total erschöpft ging es durch enge Gassen, teilweise mitten durch andere Unterkunftanlagen und über eine Brücke die wackeliger hätte nicht sein können. Müde fielen wir dann direkt ins Bett.
