The 2023 Barbie film is a commercial. I’m sure it will be fun, funny, delightful, and engaging. I will watch it, and I’ll probably even dress up to go to the theater. Barbie is also a film made by Mattel using their intellectual property to promote their brand. Not only is there no large public criticism of this reality, there seems to be no spoken awareness of it at all. I’m sure most people know that Barbie is a brand, and most people are smart enough to know this and enjoy the film without immediately driving to Target to buy a new Barbie doll. After all, advertising is everywhere, and in our media landscape of dubiously disclosed User Generated Content and advertorials, at least Barbie is transparently related to its creator. But to passively accept this reality is to celebrate not women or icons or auteurs, but corporations and the idea of advertising itself. Public discourse around Barbie does not re-contextualize the toy or the brand, but in fact serves the actual, higher purpose of Barbie™: to teach us to love branding, marketing, and being consumers.

[...] The casting of Gerwig’s Barbie film shows that anyone can be a Barbie regardless of size, race, age, sexuality. Barbie is framed as universal, as accessible; after all, a Barbie doll is an inexpensive purchase and Barbiehood is a mindset. Gerwig’s Barbie is a film for adults, not children (as evidenced by its PG-13 rating, Kubrick references, and soundtrack), and yet it manages to achieve the same goals as its source material: developing brand loyalty to Barbie™ and reinforcing consumerism-as-identity as a modern and necessarily empowering phenomenon. Take, for example, “Barbiecore,” an 80s-inspired trend whose aesthetic includes not only hot pink but the idea of shopping itself. This is not Marx’s theory on spending money for enjoyment, nor can it even be critically described as commodity fetishism, because the objects themselves bear less semiotic value compared to the act of consumption and the identity of “consumer.”

[...] Part of the brilliance of the Barbie brand is its emphasis on having fun; critiquing Barbie’s feminism is seen as a dated, 90s position and the critic as deserving of a dated, 90s epithet: feminist killjoy. It’s just a movie! It’s just a toy! Life is so exhausting, can’t we just have fun? I’ve written extensively about how “feeling good” is not an apolitical experience and how the most mundane pop culture deserves the most scrutiny, so I won’t reiterate it here. But it is genuinely concerning to see not only the celebration of objects and consumer goods, but the friendly embrace of corporations themselves and the concept of intellectual property, marketing, and advertising. Are we so culturally starved that insurance commercials are the things that satiate our artistic needs?

Since his meeting with AMLO, the attacks towards him have risen. They have reached the point of various groups attacking his career, intimacy and even doxxing his family (adresses, workplaces and his daughter's schools).

He calls out the press for the lack of rigurosity when writing the news about the rebozo.

He talks about how now that his fame has grown, the attacks have too.

He says that he doesn't agree with everything AMLO does, like what happened in Ciudad de Juárez, where 40 immigrants died.

MER calls out Poder Prieto for sharing the podcast, asking them to pay her. She calls Tenoch a predator. She also says in her IG story that Poder Prieto treated her badly because they were defending Tenoch

She replies. "That Tenoch huerta pretends to sleep with young women when they arrive at Kapital Films, I mean, Poder Prieto".

MER replies: "The one that in her Festival Poder Prieto asked more artesans to go free at los Pinos (because they aren't famous, they're making them a favor)

(Not related to Tenoch, but I think it's important to show she seems to have something against Maya and Poder Prieto)

When asked "why is Tenoch a sexual offender and predator?" she replies "because he is, why else?"

When asked if Tenoch had sexually assaulted her, she replies "yes, and many more".

She says that Poder Prieto protects the sexual offender and predator Tenoch Huerta. She also states they went to look for her at a concert so there wouldn't be any polemics because of his Marvel movie (and she tags Marvel Latam).

She also tells Maya Zapata directly "I'm not playing".

Tenoch replies to the accusations, denying them:

Talks about how hard it is to speak up about emotional and power abuse. (Changes the allegations. Mind you, she was saying he sexually assaulted her in the latest tweets).

Shows screenshots of random people threatening her with acid. Calls Tenoch a "abuser, manipulator and sexual predator".

In it, she doesn't directly adress him when referring to stealthing.

Basically says he ghosted her

She says that Tenoch sleeps around with women in Poder Prieto and a lot of them do it because they want to advance in the movie industry.

She posts the statement in english

She's confronted about the accusations made by different sources about the way her family lived in Oaxaca (these are supported by legal papers). Says those are "paid campaigns" by Vera Carrizal (her attacker) so they can silence her.

21:

Makes a thread. In it, she says "They are not unsubstantiated accusations. Rape is not fiction and is substantiated."

Takes her three hours to post the first "proof".

It's an anon

The anon accuses him of stealthing. There's no proof because the anon deleted everything.

Tenoch exits his movie Fiesta en la Madriguera. He sends a statement to the news. He mentions he will be taking legal action.

We get a different anon. Now it's a dissorted voicemail. (And a weird emphasis on her age). Again, no proof.

23:

shows more "proof". now it relates to raciel rivas.

in these screenshots we learn that she might have accused tenoch of stealthing because a woman called raciel rivas out and tenoch dismissed it, saying he does it too. she had this message since june 12th, and if you remember, she issued her statement on june 15th.

24:

Raciel Rivas denies what MER said, therefore, tenoch being there saying those things never happened either.

Her acid attack case has its mid-hearing. She asks not to use proof unrelated to the fact. You can see it here.

She also says she won't refer to the other accusations (aka, Tenoch) for the time being.

Los pájaros en el alambre, an independent news outlet, say her lawyer is connected with the PAN and they made up the story about tenoch to boost the law made by Ana Valenzuela. They also say she wants to be a representative.

A few comments about it:

So far, she hasn't been able to prove that he has sexually assaulted, or r*ped a woman.

She has blocked most of tenoch's fans and journalists who approached her to talk about the topic.

Statements made by her about her mental health have resurfaced (here).

A lot of people from Oaxaca have spoken up about what happened there and her connection to murat, she blocks them.

MER's connections to transphobic groups have resurfaced (here)

It's election year in Mexico

I think the problem is that all the stories Hollywood tries to tell of Medieval Europe are grimdark. Everything's about tragedy, war, and wallowing in poverty. But no-one has any problem with samurai movies being beautiful! If anything it's expected. If they did this to a samurai movie it would look bizarre.

But a lot of the stories told about feudal Japan are the same types that happened in feudal Europe! When filmmakers step out of the stereotypical set of narratives, the movies become beautiful. Case in point: The Green Knight.

Medieval stories are always so polemical these days. Tell me a story like the ones they told about themselves, something magical. Where's our stories of tragic lone warriors, doomed lovers, gods, and ghosts? Maybe our movies about Medieval people are dreary and boring because we're dreary and boring now.

One thing allistic people always get wrong about autists is the meaningful conversation bit.

Suffering during small talk because it’s masking in a bottle doesn’t mean we want to talk about your childhood trauma or politics in the elevator. If you want to, sure, I’m down (although polemic topics make me anxious because I fear conflict and we have different communication modes so it’s risky), but that’s not what we mean when we say meaningful conversations.

I want to hear about the last show you watched and what you thought of it. About your comfort shows. I want to hear about your most recent read and the way the author built a great character arc. I want to hear how hard it is for you to keep a plant alive. I want to hear you go “Have you watched xyz movie yet? I’m obsessed” or “Oh, I’m alright! My favourite artist released an album this week!” and then fangirl for 2min even if I’ve never heard about this artist before.

We just want a genuine interaction, in which we connect as human beings

Why is it Jake gyllenhaal doesn’t get a lot of attention on here? Like I’ll sit on your page all day for fics of his

I don't mean to be dramatic, but I think he's one of the most underrated people out there and the world hasn't been fair to him.

Like, professionally... he's an actor everyone recognizes as extremely, insanely talented. You see his face everywhere when we talk about iconic movies/characters. He isn't getting awards from it, though.

People don't talk enough about how brave of him was to be in Brokeback Mountain in 2005. Nowadays every actor is getting praised for playing a gay character, but back in 2005 it could ruin your career, cause "you would never be seen as manly again" so who would hire you afterwards? Well, him and Heath showed up to the interviews to be disgustingly attacked for it, and they never allowed anyone to make fun of it and call it less than a love story. I can't imagine how hard it was for him to lose Heath right after all they've been through together.

And after all the attacks he got from it, now he has to keep his comments limited on social media because a bunch of brainwashed white girls will give him and his loved ones hell because of a 3 months relationship that happened over a decade ago (absolutely nothing against Taylor, what I don't understand is people going to war for her, when she doesn't need that).

It is cool and trendy to hate him now and I believe he lost opportunities because of it, like, fuck your talent, we're not gonna make money out of you now, we're gonna be canceled.

And to focus on your question, I truly believe this happens to creators/writers too. Back when Spiderman far from home came out, this place was crowded... but nowadays we just don't get as many notes and I believe some people are afraid of being attacked for being a Jake stan, like I've seen it happen A LOT on tiktok.

And all of this happening to someone who has absolutely ZERO polemics on his name, he's been on the spotlight since he was a kid and he's never been accused of being anything but sweet, funny, kind and humble.

So yeah, there's Hollywood for you, I guess.

Georgie Farmer x fem!reader

summary: the fact that Georgie was dating one of the most polemic influencers brought curiosity to his friends.

WARNINGS! I don't think it'll have some? but please tell me if it is something to add!

It was an understatement that you weren't the most pleasing actress around people's mouth, you had three past relationships and all of them ended with you being the villain.

Even if you weren't.

You tried to talk about your side but people only seemed to ignore it and toss it aside, focusing only in your ex partners side.

Even though you tried to not get in a relationship since then, one person broke it for you.

George Farmer.

You two were paired to be just two best friends in a movie, even though you tried to keep your distance, Georgie was way too stubborn to let it go, in all honesty, he knew about the rumors and all the talk about you, but he never cared about it.

He wanted to know you, he actually wanted to spend time with you, he would always try to get a smile from you when you two were filming, making the movie even better because most of the time your smiled for Georgie were truthfully.

Your friendship bloomed so naturally and easily that you got scared for a minute, but Georgie were so gentle and honest with you that you gave in.

It didn't took much time for people to notice the proximity of you two, Georgie were always by your side for everything, you talked about your problems and insecurities and he made sure to worship you and even in front of cameras he wasn't ashamed to show you off, he just loved to make sure that you were having the best time.

He never pushed you to do anything you didn't wanted to, if you said you weren't in the mood to go out, he would bring the fun inside of your comfort, if you didn't felt like being all fancy to do something, he would ask what you were wearing so he would wear something similar with you, anything you wanted he would give to you, even if you slapped his arm every time he ignored your pleads to not spoil you – he secretly found adorable how you would get mad at him for something so idiotic.

And with all those things added up with the fact that he was the prettiest man you've ever seen, Georgie broke all your walls with ease and entered in your heart, making sure to heal every wound that was there.

You found yourself in a lavender haze that creeped up on your body and fogged your mind.

Now you were almost completing 2 years of a sweet relationship that you so tried to avoid, but Georgie could be really convincing.

He was going out with his friends and of course, he was bringing you, because he "wanted to show off his beautiful girlfriend".

— Seriously Geo, you don't need to do that if you want- you whispered kissing his hand and he smiled lovingly, his eyes on the road but always glancing at your figure every minute.

— And lose the chance to rub in Oliver's face that I'm dating the most beautiful and powerful girl I've ever met?- he chuckled- Not a chance, also, I want you to meet them, you'll like them, principally the girls, Jenna will love you- he said and caressed your thigh, you smiled softly at it.

After so many broken hearts and failed relationships, finding someone like Georgie seemed almost impossible, but here he was, making you all giggly like usual.

Beautiful, respectful and who kisses the floor you walked through? This is a dream that not everyone accomplished.

— I love you- he said and you blushed and your heart always did backflips whenever he said it to you.

— I love you more Geo- you whispered and he grinned.

— Oh never love, I love you way more- he chuckled and took your hand, laying a sweet a soft kiss on it, you felt the lavender haze creeping up on you again.

God, you loved Georgie so much.

Georgie guided you through the house, his hand on your lower back while you two playfully bickered about him holding your purse that contained only your phone and some things you usually took because Georgie could be really clumsy if he wanted.

— I'm very capable of holding my purse- you chuckled and Georgie only held it higher.

— Can you let your beautiful boyfriend bring your things? Because he loves you very much and wants to let your hands free- he smiled smugly while leaning in and capturing your lips with his- Mine- he whispered and kissed your forehead.

Butterflies flew around your whole body, this man will definitely be the death of you.

— WHAT'S UP MATE!- Oliver exclaimed happily and ran to Georgie, he gently let you aside so he wouldn't accidentally hurt you.

— Jesus Christ Oli, it's been only a week!- Georgie laughed hugging the boy.

— A boring week without you!- Oliver dramatically threw himself over Georgie, you giggled at the scene and Oliver turned to you with a big smile- Sorry! I didn't introduced myself, I'm Oliver!- he offered you his hand.

You were taken aback for a moment, Jesus, your past relationships were really fucked.

— I'm Y/N!- you said happily taking his hand.

— Oli, that's my girl, the one I told you about- Georgie said smiling proudly.

— Oh! You're the girl! Damn Georgie, when you said she had a pretty smile you weren't lying- he teased and you laughed when Georgie sent a glare to Oliver.

— Thank you- you said and he guided both of you to the living room, everyone looked up, you recognized some of their faces, Georgie talked a lot about them so you were familiar with most of them.

— What's up guys!- Georgie hugged your waist and you waved shyly- That's Y/N, my pretty girl that I'm always talking about- he said and you chuckled.

— Hey guys!- you said and some smiled and waved and others glared at you.

— Emma is your biggest fan though- Georgie teased and the blonde almost jumped on him.

— Georgie!- she exclaimed and you laughed.

— Leave the poor girl alone love- you giggled and slapped his chest lightly, he smiled down at you.

— Excuse me, now she is ours- Jenna slapped Georgie's arm and took your hand, dragging you to the couch, Georgie smiled amused.

— Just for today Ortega, I'm the one who wakes up on her side every day anyways- Georgie said and Jenna flipped him off.

— Not if I win her over- she playfully stuck her tongue out and you laughed with their bickering.

— Sorry love, but Jenna is my crush since Stuck in the Middle- you jokingly said and Georgie acted offended.

— I feel so betrayed, you said that I was your crush since Evermoore- he wiped a fake tear and you only looked at him with lovingly eyes.

— Baby, don't be dramatic, it's only some pecks here and there- you said and they laughed.

— Yeah, don't scare her away you crazy ladies- Georgie chuckled and sat down on Calum's side.

At some point, you were all gathered in the middle of the living room talking, you sat between Georgie's legs, his hand softly caressing your cheek and sometimes playing with your hair as you laid on his knee.

— Man- one of the boys that you didn't know whispered on Georgie's side- Isn't she the one who screamed at her old boyfriends? She is crazy dude! Two years? Do you need help or something?- he muttered but Georgie rolled his eyes and focused on your hair again, deciding to braid it.

— Yeah dude, didn't you see her last boyfriend statement? She is kinda insane- other boy said and that took some attention from the girls.

— Anyways- Joy glared at the boys- Tell us about your cat! Georgie is always sending photos of her- she said and you smiled.

— Her name is Nayla! She is so fluffy and tiny- you said and Georgie smiled with your happiness.

— And a little devil- he said and you chuckled.

— Baby, you say that but you're the one who keeps poking her when she is curled up in my lap- you said and Georgie kissed your head.

— That cat gets more attention than me- he pouted.

— Dude you're so whipped- Calum laughed.

— Oh leave him alone, it's cute!- Hunter said and you smiled looking at your boyfriend, you admired his eyes for a moment.

— What can I do? She is so perfect- Georgie whispered and pecked your lips, you smiled and hugged his neck, he took your waist and pulled you to his lap.

— Have you ever thought about marrying him?- a boy on your side asked.

— Marrying? Jesus, we're barely dating for 2 years- you whispered.

— One night stand or marry her, it's one or other- your face couldn't hide the disgust you felt with a simple talk.

— Oh shut the fuck up- Jenna rolled her eyes.

— Yeah man, leave them alone, be happy that Georgie is a simp for someone that is worth it- Calum shrugged- You're really cool, you should always come to our meetings- he offered you a smile.

— Aww thanks Calum, you're really cool too, I'll make sure to come and bring Nayla with me- you smiled.

— Please do! I love cats and she looks so sweet!- Hunter said.

— Please marry me- Emma said and you laughed.

— I mean, yes?- you said and she faked a faint.

You had one your best nights with them.

You were in the kitchen gossiping with the girls and making some drinks, when you walked in the living room the previously two boys disappeared and Georgie was talking with Oliver normally, you frowned and your eyes traveled to Georgie's hands.

— Jesus Christ Geo! You're bleeding!- you panicked taking your purse and pulling out some cottons, antiseptic wipes and bandages.

— Oh, it was nothing love- he smiled gently to you but you completely ignored him, sitting on his lap and taking his hand, cleaning it gently.

— What happened?- you asked and Oliver shrugged.

— We were playing and he accidentally punched a wall- he said casually and you looked at Georgie's hand.

Definitely not a wall.

But you decided to leave it be, only caring if he wasn't seriously hurt.

When you two walked into your apartment, Georgie hugged your waist and kissed your lips passionately.

— I'm sorry about the disgusting little shits- he whispered and you kissed his cheek.

— I would be damned if I cared what people say Geo, it's okay, not your fault too- you said and he hummed kissing you again.

— I love you so much you know that right?- he said and you smiled hugging his neck.

— I know love, I love you too, so much- you looked into his eyes.

— I wanna stay in this as long as we can- he whispered and pulled you closer- Hopefully forever, but I know that you're a time person, so let's just say that as long as the time can tell- you smiled at his words and kissed him so dearly.

god barbie was so bad. was too busy being clever and referential and ironic and delivering bad liberal feminist polemics to actually bother being a good movie. fucked pacing, inconsistent tone, too many themes done badly, not enough texture. didn't know if it wanted to be a kids movie or a mattel advert or pinocchio for adults conversant in the culture war. possibly the nadir of greta gerwig's career.

Conrad Veidt (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The Man Who Laughs)—the ultimate goth boy! as well as classics like the cabinet of dr caligari, the man who laughs (which his character in was the visual inspiration for the joker) and casablanca, he starred in the german polemic melodrama different from the others in 1919 in one of the first sympathetic portrayals of gay characters in cinema, co-written by the gay researcher & activist magnus hirschfeld much of whose pioneering research on human sexual diversity was destroyed by the nazis

Everlark on movies

or why I just can't hate the movies - Part 1

This post will be polemic, and I am sure everyone will disagree, but I came here to defend romance aspect on the movies.

But first, some important points:

-I do agree the books were totally better while the movies failed in insert romance organically in the storytelling.

-And yes, everlark community is right in be pissed of with the director. He really didn't get the purpose of Peeta and Katniss relationship and that's shows.

-The producers forced the Team Gale and Team Peeta thing to increase the engagement. More Gale and Katniss were their crimes.

That said, what I strongly disagree are following accusations:

-"The movies are Everthorne propaganda and made that ship more popular than the canon one."

-"Peeta and Katniss didn't have chemistry on the movies."

-"On the movies, Katniss was actually in love with Gale, Peeta was rebound."

So this post will cover this fist accusation.

The changes for the love triangule

First movie did insert hits about Gale have a crush on Katniss (the book made this too, but it was implied). In movies Gale is a decent friend (he was there with Prim wait for her, alike on canon), so he is shippable and this create a interesting conflict on the audience, cause her looks like a good match, right?

But then there is Peeta. This guy that happened to be genuinely kind, and was willing to let Katniss win. And in script was implied he did knows it was an act whole time. So in the end of story feels like the audience is strongly divided between two good men, adding the political mess, we do have an exciting cliffhanger.

Then second movies happens and all doubts go away! Again edition cut iconic lines from Peeta, but Josh killed it in all his scenes. Peeta's essential kindness was well portrayed, in my opinion, and made audience really care for him.

It was criminal that they didn't delve deeper into the everlark bed scenes and add new everthorne scenes (that no one asked for), but rewatching it I didn't see much emotions on those kisses (and thanks Liam for having the expressiveness of a door).

In the other hand, the everlark scenes during the games were EVERYTHING! All the drama that was missing in the first film came in full force in the second! The force field scene is so much more theatrical!

And they made the beach kiss sweeter (and personally I love how heartwarming the scene was). I do remember applauding in theater (so... no chemistry my ass)

In short, my reading of the film is that Peeta is not just a cute and passionate friend who Katniss is afraid of hurting by rejecting him. She's falling in love with him. The desperation, the devotion, all of this is perfectly translated in Jennefer's performance. I seriously don't get how someone can see their interactions on arena and think he is the third wheel (and thank you director for don't include Gale's sad face to ruin the moment here).

Feral and in love (overdramatic? overreacted? Yes, but it follows the intensity of Katniss in canon). Will historians say that she is acting like this because of a friend?

Then the two last movies. They finally allowed show Gale being a asshole (I liked that change with calling Peeta a coward, they cut Gale's bullshit in Catching Fire, they had to put in some place). We still have to endure some Gale and Katniss scenes, but again, their ton are pale (basic soundtrack, no creative angles).

But what continues selling the ship is the adversity, the longing. Wherever Peeta appears Katniss just sees him! Gale stay on background or the camera forget him, he is just a desperate man looking at an amazing couple.

You are excellent door Liam!

And all angst, the forbidden love thing make people root even more for Everlark! So no! The movies didnt' sell Everthone or this attempt backfired (or if you disagree, at least see Jennefer isn't on board).

In conclusion, yes the movies made little for the ship, but this little was enough to introduce people to this amazing franchise. The details, the performing, soundtrack, edition all came together to the tip of the iceberg of everlark.

Listing my fave Eriks (Phantomverse Of Madness).

This is a post i was suppose to make a long time ago, but i only got the time to write it now. I will probably make a part 2 with the "Worse/Less Favorite Eriks".

Remember everyone, this is ✨MY OPINION✨. No adaptation is free from flaws, these 6 Eriks are my favorite but they won't escape from my critics. And if you disagree, feel free to comment about.

6. MazM!Erik (2018)

We start with a polemic one. Mazm!Erik has an unique beauty and amazing hairstyle, his PTSD, the pain, the crying little boy inside of the man, the despair to be loved are still ON POINT. But let's not forget they turned him into a generic anime sociopath who does bad things because yes, and abuses Christine, and keeps Melek aprisioned, and other nonsense things of this mediocre script. However, MazM!Erik is still redeamable at some point and he has good stuffs.

5. Chaney's Erik (1925)

Our first adaptation, the 1925s silent movie! In my opinion, NO ONE played Erik better than Lon Chaney. No one. Like, this man, he's just fantastic. Chaney's hands, movements, the PHANTASTIC make-up, the expressions of pain, madness, anger and tenderness, OH MY GOD THIS IS HEAVEN!!!

ok but let's not forget the ending sucks and the movie tried at best to villainize Erik, this is unforgivable.

4. Merik (1986-2004)

Probably the most known version among us. Andrew Loyd Webber delivered us an amazing, outbreathing and beautiful musical that saved Broadway's story in the 1980s and brought Phantom back to popular tastes since then. Musical Erik has its questions, many people fan of the novel think Webber tried somehow to make him more manipulative and less redeeming. After all, even though people he killed weren't innocent at all, Erik isn't a man who runs out judging people and killing the ones he consider to be unworthy. He killed in EXTREMELY ocasional times in the novel. By the way, the way he constantely manipulates Christine and try to keep control as "the Angel" is just... no.

The original Erik wouldn't do this. He hates lying to Christine, he avoids at his best hurting her. Merik has more childish and toxic behaviour, even though he still ends up redeemed and changed out of his own will and kindness. We cannot deny Merik is one of a kind, one of the most iconic versions of the story. There are many actors who played Merik: Gerard Butler, Ramin Karimloo, Hugh Panaro, Norm Lewis, Ben Lewis, Michael Crawford, i could make a whole blog about my favorites and less favorites Meriks. And i'll probably do it.

3. Cherik (1990)

Look what we have here ❤️

"MY GOD, THIS PLACE REALLY IS HAUNTED" -- this and other funny lines are a gift of Charles Dance's version of Erik. The minisseries isn't very loyal to the novel, however, it's not a bad adaptation at all. This Erik is funny, shy, awkard and more healthy than most of the other versions. I disaprove anything about his version? Yep. First, he wears too colored clothes and is less "dark and goth" like other Eriks. Second, his mother actually loved Erik in this version... I think this was an unnecessary changing. Because the horrible abuse committed by Erik's mother is something EXTREMELY important that can't be changed. Mommy issue is an essence of this character. Should I talk about the "Christine looking like his mom" problem?

Well...

2. Kerik (1990)

Our favorite Susan Kay monologue! Yes, here it is. Kerik (or Serik as some people say) is funny, jerky and tragic, it's almost the same as Leroux's version, as it is supposed to be because "Phantom" isn't exactly an adaptation, but an explanation/expansion of what we've seen originally. Phantom is so good that we phans consider it as canon!

I can't help but say his relationship with Christine in this monologue is weird and a bit disappointing, though. Susan Kay actually started this "Christine looked like Erik's mom" shit, and it's not only weird, it literally confirms Erik's love for Christine was not real, that he only wanted to have a normal relantionship with his mother and Christine was a link to escape his pain. Ok, it makes sense Erik having mommy issues, but i disagree with Kay's vision about his love.

1. Lerik, The Original (1910).

Claps to our king, sis and bros. Gaston Leroux wrote this character with passion. This is my favorite deformity and vision about the character, the lines and the emotions are all just perfect for me. No one ever surprassed the original novel. Erik is a symbol, and a figure to many people. A broken, tortured, emotionally unstable man, who wants to fix everything his way, who doesn't have anyone to trust, who searches for love, pity and compassion, who searches for inclusion and tenderness from the society... but had everything despised and wasted. Erik, originally, is not a villain or a romantic hero. He is an anti-hero. He's the representation of frustrated people and abuse survivors who are able to LOVE, even after everything they had to pass throught. People who are able to recognize and fix their mistakes, people who won't sacrifice their beloved ones happiness for their own problems and fears. Erik is all of us.

1475 – Pope Leo X (d.1521), born Giovanni di Lorenzo de' Medici, was the Pope from 1513 to his death in 1521. He was the last non-priest (only a deacon) to be elected Pope. He is known for granting indulgences for those who donated to reconstruct St. Peter's Basilica and his challenging of Martin Luther's 95 Theses. He was the second son of Lorenzo de' Medici, the most famous ruler of the Florentine Republic, and Clarice Orsini. His cousin, Giulio di Giuliano de' Medici, would later succeed him as Pope Clement VII (1523-34).

Several modern historians have concluded that Leo was homosexual. Contemporary tracts and accounts such as that of Francesco Guicciardini have been found to allude to active same-sex relations - alleging Count Ludovico Rangone and Galeotto Malatesta were among his lovers.

Cesare Falconi has examined in particular Leo's infatuation with the Venetian noble Marcantonio Flaminio, with Leo arranging the best education that could be offered for the time. Von Pastor has argued, however, against the credibility of these testimonies, and rejected accusations of immorality as anti-papal polemic. Gucciardini was not resident at the papal court during Leo's pontificate, while other contemporaries such as Matteo Herculano took pains to praise his chastity. Paul Strathern, a British writer and academic, argues that Leo, while homosexual, was not sexually active as pope, despite identifying notable members of that family as such.

Jean Cocteau and Jean Marais

1913 – Jean Marais, French actor (d.1998); Marais was never much of an actor, and it is doubtful he would have achieved international fame had he not become Jean Cocteau's lover, but he was, by universal acclaim, one of the most handsome men ever to appear in films. In the 1940s when he made most of his movies for Cocteau, actors were still slicking down their hair with Kreml and Vitalis. But he changed all that. His cheveaux fous and athletic good looks created a new style of postwar leading man.

When in 1946 he spent his time in Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast, trapped within an ape-like constume, waiting for Beauty's kiss to turn him once again into Jean Marais, Gay moviegoers around the world secretly wished that they were Josette Day who actually got to kiss the handsome actor's furry face. What is perhaps most interesting about the friendship between Cocteau and Marais is that the actor's face in profile bore an astonishing resemblance to the boys Cocteau had been sketching for thirty years before meeting him.

In the 1960s, he played the famed villain of the Fantômas trilogy. After 1970, Marais's on-screen performances became few and far between, as he preferred concentrating on his stage work. He kept performing on stage until his eighties, also working as a sculptor. In 1985, he was the head of the jury at the 35th Berlin International Film Festival.

1948 – Alvin Baltrop (d.2004) was a gay African-American photographer who earned fame through his photographs of the Hudson River piers during the 1970s and 1980s.

Baltrop was born in 1948 in the Bronx. He discovered his love of photography in junior high school. Baltrop received no formal art education; older photographers from the neighborhood taught him different techniques and how to develop photos himself.

Baltrop enlisted in the Navy as a medic during the Vietnam War and continued taking photos, mainly of his friends in sexually provocative poses. He built his own developing lab in the sick bay, using medic trays for developing trays. After his time in the Navy, Baltrop worked odd jobs as a street vendor, a jewelry designer, a printer, and a cab driver. Because he wanted to spend more time taking photos at the Hudson River piers, he quit his job as a cab driver to become a self-employed mover. He would park his van at the piers for days at a time, living out of his van to take pictures.

From 1975 through 1986, Baltrop took photographs of the West Side piers, where he was a well-known member of the community. Baltrop knew every person he photographed, and people often volunteered to be photographed. Younger boys and men at the piers often confided in him about their sexual orientation, their relationships with their families, their housing status, and their work.

Baltrop captured the gay cruising spots and hookup culture that existed in New York City before the AIDS epidemic. Baltrop's photographs not only captured human personalities, but also the aesthetics of the dilapidated piers. His life work is a snapshot of gay, African-American, and New York City history.

Baltrop struggled to make his way in the art world, facing racism from the white gay art world. Gay curators often rejected his work, accused him of stealing it, or stole his work themselves.

"Three Sailors"

Late during the 1990s, NYC artist John Drury, who knew Alvin from their shared neighborhood - Drury living on Third Street, with his wife and Baltrop on Second Street, in lower Manhattan - befriended the artist and recognized the photographers unique abilities, nominating him for a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award for the Arts. Alvin Baltrop had few exhibits in his lifetime; his work gaining international fame only after his death.

According to one journalist, Baltrop came out as gay at fourteen years old. Baltrop had long term relationships with men and women, but preferred identifying as gay.

Baltrop was diagnosed with cancer in the 1990s. Impoverished and without health insurance, curators and filmmakers attempted to exploit him for their own financial gain. He died on February 1, 2004

1990 – Nakshatra Bagwe, born in Mumbai, India, is an Indian actor and award winning film maker. Nakshatra will be making his Indian feature film debut in My Son is Gay and is due for his international film debut as the lead actor of Hearts. His films Logging Out, Book of Love, Curtains and PR (Public Relations) represent the current LGBT scenario of India.

He is a LGBT rights activist and also an organiser of Gujarat's first ever pride march. Nakshatra has participated in several Pride Parades in India. He won KASHISH – Mumbai International Queer Film Festival in 2012 for his debut film Logging Out. It was screened at prestigious venues like Queens Museum of Arts (New York), The Old Cinema (London) and it was also a part of Queer India European tour 2012 to raise awareness about LGBT issues in the Indian context.

Nakshatra hails from Konkan coastal region. Masure, Malvan is his native village. He takes part in homosexuality awareness projects. Nakshatra and his mother were featured in a promo of popular Indian television show Satyamev Jayte. He came out to society when he participated in Asia’s first LGBT flashmob. He also participated in second queer flashmob which happened at Dadar station, Mumbai. Nakshatra posed nude for a campaign named 'Breaking Closets'.

In July 2014, He became the brand ambassador of Moovz, a global social network for gay men. Nakshatra is first and only openly Indian LGBT person to be signed up as the brand ambassador by any brand till now.

1998 – The mother of Tyra Hunter (1970 – 1995) is awarded $2.9 million in a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Washington DC. Hunter, a pre-operative transsexual, died of injuries sustained in a car accident in 1995. Emergency medical technicians at the scene were abusive and withheld treatment, and a doctor at DC General Hospital failed to follow nationally accepted standards of care.
