This is to the TVA girls: I wanna know, how did you balance between school and crime-fighting? I'm pretty sure it must've been very stressful considering how High School is different compared to Kindergarten!

What happened to Korean animation???
I can not stress this enough, but what is it with the Korean animation on most Burbank-made cartoons produced after 2015 looking so… slow and stiff???
There're LOTS more on 2s animation timing... and less inbetweening, while characters, props and effects are not as loosely drawn as they used to be before 2016.
Look at this example below of what a modern cartoon looks like when animated in Korea:
Tumblr media
Bernard Williams ain't selling the acting well now; is he?
That episode of Craig of the Creek, "Creature Feature", was made in 2020; it was animated by Rough Draft Korea Co., Ltd. — an animation studio founded by Gregg Vanzo as a cheaper means for quality animation on none other than The Ren & Stimpy Show (Don't believe me? Thad Komorowski will tell you).
He's moving too slow. This shot is all on 2s. His arms move stiffly, and his head bobs up and down just a little bit. It doesn't sell the specific emotions he's expressing as richly as they could... compared to something like classic Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon shows of the past. The overseas animators should listen to the audio track, the recorded dialogue. That's what they did on on Ren & Stimpy!
Now let's go back 10 years before Rough Draft animated that episode of Craig of the Creek... to the Sym-Bionic Titan episode "The Phantom Ninja":
Tumblr media
LOOK HOW LOOSE AND SMOOTH THIS LITTLE BIT OF ANIMATION IS!
This level of Korean animation quality was normal for TV cartoons back in the 2010s.
This one shot has a healthy balance of on 2s animation and on 1s animation.
It's just Ilana Lunis and Octus doing a bit of a... I don't know... a shrug... giving Lance a certain look. Not even talking in this shot, nor is it an action sequence, and this little bit of acting looks far better than Craig of the Creek ever animated in general.
Rough Draft also animates on Spongebob and they're struggling but usually excelling on the animation quality overseas.
This applies to cartoons made and aired before 2016 where post-2105 episode/content are the same quality as most post-2015 cartoons shows these days that're animated in Korea; examples are Uncle Grandpa, Samurai Jack Season 5, The Venture Bros. Season 6 onward, We Bare Bears Season 2 onward, and even later Disney TVA shows as Amphibia Season 3 and Hailey's On It!, though mostly it involves Warner Bros. Discovery-owned properties (Turner ones namely).
May be that Korean animators just need a break. The Phillippines can deliver better animation (a bit roughly but still better than Korea for the most part)! Perhaps the Korean overseas facilities need more money... more direction... more communication (as if we could actually afford that with today's gas prices?)
Why not animate domestically here in America? In Burbank? What about rigging (puppetry in 2 dimensions)?
The future of quality TV/non-theatrical 2D animation may be in the hands of Canada's and Ireland's finest riggers. Mercury Filmworks, Boulder Media, Lighthouse Studios, Snipple Animation, and Jam Filled Entertainment can deliver better animation through rigging than Korea can do for most hand-drawn shows!
That is unless it's the Spongebob Squarepants franchise of course... that and Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? and... pretty much anything animated by Yearim or Yeson (most of which are adult cartoon sitcoms with rather restricted animation so as not to distract from their comedic wordplay, since those shows are more script-driven anyway).
I asked some people about the current condition of Korean animation to see what they think about that. Maxwell Atoms had a good bit to say...
The What's in My Head? podcast interview with Randy Myers largely benefited from a question I suggested about the animation quality differences classic Powerpuff Girls and 2016-2019 PPG episodes.
Ariel Vracin-Harrell tweeted that overseas animators often follow the storyboards "religiously", and tiny little micro-poses in storyboards can result in the animation looking "laggy and odd". (Perhaps those Korean animators view the storyboard animatics as key animation?)
Lauren Faust says that you shouldn't animate you storyboards.
I'll expand more on this post later.
Tweet thread version here.

Given someone's ask from before, what are your thoughts on where some of Disney TVA creators are at and what they've done since leaving Disney like Alex Hirsch (aside from doing voicework in Owl House) executive producing Inside Job at Netflix, Daron Nefcy doing something at Nick (wonder how long it'll last given it's been 3 years since she joined), Craig McCracken creating Kid Cosmic at Netflix and running reboots of PPG and Foster's Home, Frank Angones writing for Kid Cosmic season 3 (1/2)
Sorry I haven't gotten to your amphibia ask i've just been super busy. And okay since you started it here: Alex: It feels like he hasn't WANTED to jump back into a full series. Given he cut a series Disney was BEGGING him to make three seasons short out of pure exaustion and has more ideas there, it's clear he's likely reluctant and feels better in a supporting roll. Daron Nefcy: That's where she went? Also no idea. But given how bad nick can be i'm not suprised her first project went nowhere. or her second or her third or her... Craig: I'm happy he went on to netflix which gave him not only a full series order for Kid Cosmic (which I need to watch at some point) but let him have as many or as little eps as needed> netflix series can suffer from having too many or too little episodes. He got just what he wanted, told the story he wanted then left. As for PPG and Fosters.. I was entirley unaware those were happening, please elaborate and i'm entirleys keptical they will keep happening given the curren tbonfire Frank: Good for him. Though it feels like a temporary gig. Like something to hold him over. hopefully till darkwing duck, but since that may not be happnening I hope whatever he does next treats him well. It felt lik ehe simply went to kid cosmic for it's last season because he was free, he and Craig are close from wonder over yonder and he had nothing else to do so why not team up again? Not his big next evolutionary step after helming one of disney's biggest shows. And sometimes creators can sit dormant for a LONG time before making another series and may just write and stuff.

CRANBERRY, Pa. -- Kris Letang and Bryan Rust could return for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the St. Louis Blues at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday (1 p.m. ET; NHLN, TVAS, ATTSN-PT, FS-MW, NHL.TV).
Letang, a 31-year-old defenseman, has missed nine games since sustaining an upper-body injury during the 2019 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series against the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb. 23. Rust, a 26-year-old forward, has missed eight games with a lower-body injury and has not played since Feb. 26.
Each took contact during practice Friday for the first time since being injured.

So, how likely are Frank Angones and Matt Braly to ink a development deal with Disney TVA like the Houghton Brothers and Noah Jones did? Sure Angones left Disney to work on Kid Cosmic at Netflix but that's over so he could come back (doesn't have to be Darkwing mind you, I don't care if someone else is running it) and Braly hasn't left yet as far as I know. And they don't have much beef Disney like Alex Hirsch and Dana Terrace do (speaking non-bias mind you).
Frank Angones is helping Craig on the PPG/Foster's Reboot for CN/HBO Max and Cartoonito and Braly is back at Big City Greens S4B/S4C.... while he develops his new movie idea... if it will go to Disney TVA or WDAS is up to him

#Loki. The God of Mischief has not only blessed us with his presence, but with his very own series, and we loved every bit of it. Have to admit, I wasn't the biggest Thor fan, much less Loki's but that certainly changed thanks to Ragnarok. What Taika Waititi did with the film, it was funny, magical, hysterical. Ragnarok turned me and after what happened in Infinity War, it only raised my excitement when a Loki series was announced. Loki was already such a complex character from the films. Seeing him stand on his own and go through all these misadventures, it's eye-opening. Thus, what he said resonated with me, "No one good is ever truly good. No one bad is ever truly bad." What an awesome way to humanize an anti-hero. And he's not just a troublemaker, he's funny, quirky, a trickster, loves salt, pepper and juice on his salad, and is capable of chanhe. Definitely more than what the films showed us. And to have Sylvie by his side, it broke boundaries for me and really blew my mind. Many claim that she was pruned from her timeline because she was born a girl, but I read somewhere, and I genuinely agree, that she got pruned because she had a good heart. She was in the middle of saving Asgard during her playtime and she screamed for help when she saw someone being mishandled by the TVA. She was good, but it was the TVA who brought out the vengeful Loki in her. It's really a treat seeing these two together because of how chaotic they are. But you know what's more fun? Seeing Tom Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino bring them to life. It's they're two peas in a pod and we love them equally. Well fine, more Sylvie than Loki. LOL Also, Miss Minutes. Apart from the memes, what I loved most is Tara Strong. She is my childhood. From Bubbles of PPG to Raven of Teen Titans, to Tommy of Rugrats, to Timmy Turner of Fairly Odd Parents, and now she's also here! In the MCU!! AS MISS MINUTES. GOD! I'm sorry this review turned into one lengthy spazz. But really, it was a funny, wild, and just one hell of a ride. WandaVision is still on the top my list but Loki is in a very very close spot. NOW GIVE US THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS ALREADY. P.S. Holding Out for a Hero is GOLD. 👌 https://www.instagram.com/p/CRZKwNxlyQ2/?utm_medium=tumblr
