A detail from the first Trolls movie that always kinda confused me was the fact that Chef was gonna feed Poppy to Gristle.

Poppy is King Peppy's heir, shes the future queen. You'd think that would make her off limits. She needs to survive to be crowned and eventually continue the royal line. The bergens are a monarchy themselves so they understand this importance and the trolls are their livestock so they would have to put some focus on maintaining genetics and keeping the trolls at a somewhat stable quality of life, that includes the social dynamics of the tribe. At least as much as we would keep track of the Queen bee in a hive, the biggest bull in a herd, or the fastest horse in the derby.

But now with Band Together it makes more sence.

Viva is older than Poppy, which means that she would likely have been assumed to be the future queen. As far as the bergens are concerned King Peppy already had his "heir and a spare". Poppy was just the spare.

With that in mind, i wonder if it was a tradition for bergen royalty to be fed a royal troll for their first trollstice. "Every prince deserves a princess" Chef had said. Did Peppy have a sibling that was fed to Gristle's dad?

If Poppy hadn't been born, would Viva had been considered old enough for Peppy to be given to Gristle instead? She managed to lead the Puttputts when she got seperated. Or would Gristle have gotten Viva and the bergens just hoped Peppy would create a new heir?

And back to the genetics bit. Do you think they selectively bred the trolls for the best taste or effect. Like specifically choosing trolls or families with undesirable traits to cook at trollstice so that their genes die out. Is that how the average pop troll of the current generation got to be so... delusionaly cheerful.

Like i know its all played up for the movies because their pop trolls, constantly singing and dancing and eating sugary sweets. But in comparison to the other genres they just seem more exaggerated.

So how much of that happy positivity and optimistic near lack of self preservation that most pop trolls have is natural for their genre and how much is enhanced due to at least 100 years of selective breeding.

I imagine the happier a troll the more dopamine/serotonin they produce naturally so the bergens would probably take care to decrease the the amount of trolls that wernt as "potent". Which likely would have been trolls that sang and danced less, were more likely to develop anxiety or were prone to depression or going grey.

On the evolutionary side of things this would have led to the happiest and more optimistic pop trolls to be the most attractive and ideal mates even if the trolls don't relize the scientific reason behind it or consciously notice that happy trolls had a higher servival rate.

(Which kind of reminds me of that one post that said something about boybands like Brozone who made trolls happy with their music likely being "protected" in some way because bergens wanted them to continue making trolls happy)

And i do think the pop trolls were captive for at least 100 years because i doubt a whole town and castle, essentially a small kingdom can be built in one life time. Especially not one with an established monarchy and near religious holiday that has a "minister of happiness". Honestly i wanna see it as over 200 years, give them plenty of time to forget their pre-trollstice history like the existence of other tribes

This is a bit long and rambling but my world building mind really wants to hyperfixate on the details of the pop troll's captivity and what it means for them as a species and for the ways their culture might have shifted or adapted.

Trolls - Amnesia-Rock-Prince!Branch in Arranged Marriage AU - Plot ideas that will probably never come to fruition

SO the full plot summery of this AU, is split among three different posts, underneath the same title and all tagged. But the basics of the AU is that Branch runs away from the troll tree, shortly after Grandma's death, and ends up in Rock troll territory with a TBI, that made him lose all memories of his life before with Thrash and Barb. After Branch grows up, now going by the name of Char, he's betrothed to the Queen of the Poppy trolls, and through their journey from romance to the alter, Char learns about his birth family, for better and for the worse.

Now Let the Plot bunnies run wild.

Plot Bunny 1: Time Travel?

I love sci-fi plots, with time Travel being a saved tag on my AO3 account. So, it's not shocking that this little bunny was popping up in this fandom for me.

Basically, on the night of Branch's first show, Brozone is sucked out from behind stage before the show, and sent to the epilogue future of the RPBAM AU. Needless to say, everyone is shocked by their future selves (with bitty as the exception, he's just excited). JD is laid back. Bruce is a family man. Clay is a CPA. Floyd ends up as a music teacher and in a wheelchair. And Bitty, is burnt into Char and is a rock king. Not mention all the future kids, and Barb.

The fic would follow the younger brothers working though their issues early by bonding with their older counterparts. Eventually, they are returned to the moment they were zapped from, their memories whipped, and the time-line continues.

Plot Bunny 2: Blood Parents are alive.

it's pretty obvious that mother and father Brozone are out of the picture by the time Branch hatches. Most likely, killed by bergans, which I do suspect is the reason that John has trauma and stemming from that his perfectionism. In this they'd be loving parents, becasue I think it's sadder and I prefer healthy relationships. I'm thinking of the names, Tia, and Branch (I like to think that since, they were taken when Char was an egg it was up to John to name him, and well, he was a teenager who just lost his dad, probably wanted to give his baby brother a connection to them).

But that didn't mean they were eaten. Their boys were some of the most stubborn, dramatic trolls in the franchise, they wouldn't go down without a fight. Rosiepuff certainly didn't, you could hear her struggling the flashback. So, in this AU they would manage to escape from their cage and hide in the Bergen Castle walls. Looking for a way to escape, only to find and empty tree when they finally managed that. To punish themselves they returned to the castle, and lived in the walls for the next twenty years, only to be found by Bridget and Gristle while they were doing some remolding. They think they are going to get cooked, and no bergen can convince them other wise. So, they make a call to Pop village.

Clay is sent, because he has a history of explaining the Bergen situation the the rest of the puttputt when the moved so this is easy for him. Along with John Dory, because he has a ride. imagine the trolls shock when Bridget escorts them to surprise Family reunion. Tears are shed, and hugs are given, Clay and John get them up to speed on modern events. Before escorting them back onto Rhonda and back to the village. Their first stop is Floyd's house, and JD gets a letter out to Bruce.

The main plot would be about the parents re-connecting with their sons, and connecting with their youngest and grandkids (story takes place in epilogue). However it's diffcult with Char mourning the recent death of Thrash and just having his third child.

Plot Bunny 3: Dimension Travel

Once more another sci-fi plot I love.

Char gets sent to the canon timeline, before the first movie takes place. Don't really have much of plot for this one, this is just to make Char clash with Creek and call out Peppy on all his lies before he hands the crown to his daughter. And marvel at the bunker.

Here's the alternative idea that meets yours halfway:

Remember the part in which Veneer was crying when he switched JD out for Floyd and had Crimp disable his vest? All of BroZone, as well as Poppy and Tiny Diamond who were in the vent with Branch, were there to witness it. I don't think it would be in-character for them to just turn on Veneer at the drop of a hat, not after witnessing that and learning Floyd's full history with the twins.

If Clay suspects Veneer, he'd investigate and spy on Veneer only to find nothing but Veneer in bed or going through the motions, and crying. He'd also find that trolls disappearing and Veneer supposedly being behind the disappearances don't add up because Veneer is usually holed up in his living space.

If Bruce suspects Veneer, he'd go about it similarly to Clay and accompany Floyd so he doesn't get trollnapped again (he doesn't), which would turn into him regularly checking on Veneer to make sure he's okay.

JD would probably also go about it similarly to Clay and Bruce, and get the same results. Rhonda follows JD at some point and finds Veneer crying, so Rhonda does what she does best: giving him wet smooches, keeping him company and taking a nap beside him when he's in bed. That would lead to Veneer playing fetch with Rhonda.

Bruce's family would be on Veneer's side because they'd know Bruce was in Veneer's vest that he had Crimp disable. Also, Brandy has a mother's heart and would check on him too.

At least some of the PuttPutt Trolls would be on Veneer's side because they'd know what Clay found. I say some of them, because not all of them will listen, much to Clay's frustration because he hates not being taken seriously.

Rhonda would side with Veneer because she's a good judge of his character.

The trolls are divided over Veneer: Veneer's friends and found family, and the trolls who suspect him.

Tensions rise and all that infighting becomes too much for Veneer, who feels bad that relations between the trolls on his side and their friends and family are taking a nosedive over him, and so he voluntarily leaves in hopes to put a stop to it. Of course, he leaves a note expressing how awful he feels about the trolls fighting about him and how he appreciates his friends and found family being there for him.

Then Floyd leaves too, leaving a note himself expressing how he has to stay close to Veneer so he doesn't collapse or hurt himself.

Remember the part in which Veneer actually practiced his singing? If The Mistress deems it good enough, she returns the missing trolls. The returned trolls then vouch for Veneer (because Floyd left to stay close to him) and the trolls who suspect him finally get their heads out of their butts.

What do you think?

I specially love the part with Floyd going after Veneer. He feels responsible for him now that Veneer is all alone.

That’s a good take on the Mistress, except she’s using Trolls for a much deeper purpose. Even with Veneer being able to sing she’s cunning, she’s using the Trolls for something much more different than we realized

What’s your theory on why clays hair changed from yellow to green.

Mine is that it is like a sign of a nutrition issue like he’s anemic or something. I know some people hc that jd made him dye his hair for angst reasons but I always thought it was weird that literally all the puttputt trolls including clay but excluding viva are monochromatic in that their hair and skin are the same color. I thought hey if depression makes trolls grey maybe nutrition issues or something like that can make them go monochromatic. They were in hiding for 20 years and I bet their food variety is pretty limited due to the fact that viva doesn’t let anyone go outside so hunting is a no go.

Oh. I just kinda thought it was age. Kind of like how sometimes kids' hair gets darker as they get older? Or even change colors entirely? Cause didn't John Dory's hair change color too? Although I guess that could be a food thing too?

Most of my aus don't really do the whole "John makes Clay dye his hair" and mostly just do the whole it changed naturally as he got older.

That's an interesting theory though. I kinda like it? Gives it a world explanation? I'm not sure how food words for the Putt Putts since they have like... French fries and milkshakes.

Outside of Know the Cousin, Uncle, Parents the only lore in the Eldest universe we don't know much is how Bruce almost died and how Clay and Floyd were and Young Rosiepuff and Nova (I think that the grandpa name)

The grandpa is Saturn and their uncle is Nova. We're learn more about the other brothers later. But you can have a little bit. Bruce was travelling for a few years before he washed up on the island, Clay found the PuttPutt trolls after they had already settled but they were still a mess back then, and Floyd did go on his solo career, traveling to places outside the troll kingdoms.

I REALLY HOPE NO ONE HAS MADE THIS YET 😭😭😭

SO BASICALLY:

After creek was exiled from pop village, he had stumbled upon the hole ‘n fun and joined the Puttputt trolls. He lied to Viva about willingly leaving pop village (and he never told her— for obvious reasons-- about how he sold the entire village for his life). He teaches yoga to other puttputt trolls and is relatively useless if we’re being honest

(I’m too tired to think of more words right now.. I’ll finish lore shit later)
