My realistic Pokemon art has returned from the war.
In descending order: Breloom and Shroomish inspired by theropod dinosaurs. Mareep as a mix of a sheep and a hadrosaur dinosaur, I like the idea of the Mareep line being sheep-shaped dragons rather than just sheep (because Ampharos). And finally Sneasel, obviously a mustelid specifically a stoat as reference. And a very dead Pikachu somewhere in the mix.

Note
do you have any advice on how to start a tumblr for a project (like a fanfic or a comic like yours)? im working on a fanfic of my own, and id like advice from someone who succeeded like you(:
Tumblr media
Here's the thing.
I don't think I'm a good candidate for this question because if I'm being honest... the success of the WDAU blog mostly fell to the success of THIS blog.
What I mean is:
When SU started, I had already developed a large enough following to get me relatively ok engagement with my audience because I'd been on tumblr for over 5 years.
When I started to watch SU and draw comics for the fandom regularly, it attracted MORE people to follow me and reblog my stuff.
When I started the WDAU blog, I simply migrated a lot of my SU-interested followers over, and it created a preset of a crowd of people willing to engage with and reblog that stuff.
And that kind of kickstarted the popularity of that blog.
Of course, on tumblr you don't NEED to have that in order to be successful. But my advice boils down not to secret hints, but very common-sense bruce-forth methods. For that I apologize.
Post often. Reblog often. Interact often. Make friends, find common interests. Join a community.
It's not about the follow-for-follow culture, it's about being a consumer in the economy you want to create for. You have to know your audience and you have to give if you want to get. Don't just expect engagement and comments if you, yourself, don't engage or comment.
When you create a blog, name it something that's straight to the point and easy to remember/find.
Tag all the posts consistently. Write a header for what it's about. Invest time in making a nice, eye-catching banner. COMMUNICATE to your audience as clearly as possible.
Post CONSISTENTLY. I don't mean every day. I mean at least once a week, just check in and remain active, even if it's reblogging something.
People appreciate it when you're just there, even if you don't produce chapters/episodes at a breakneck pace. In fact, I don't recommend posting more often than you need to. You're not a machine.
Aside from that.... just... work on your craft I guess? If you have trusted beta readers, ask someone to proofread your work. Try to improve little by little. Remember that no matter how long you write, you will never be a 'perfect' artist or author. Perfection isn't a realistic goal, but baby-step improvements are. :)
PS: why is the breloom in your avatar nakey

Chapter 12- Part 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh!! Claus!! That old guy was right, Claus really is showering us with presents!
Tumblr media
UM?? HEY, THAT’S PRETTY GOOD. THANK YOU.
Tumblr media
Well, that worked out shockingly well! Now what do the other ladies have to say?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hmm- odd that we still don’t have a Coin Case…then again, I don’t exactly remember how we get the Coin Case in mainline games. Like, I thought you get it once you go into the Game Corner for the first time, but maybe not? Maybe there’s more to it than that? And that means there’s more to it here, too?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, well, we can’t get any of these prizes right now anyways, but no harm in simply seeing what-
Tumblr media
GAH-!? SLUGMA!? AND SNOVER!? JUST RIGHT THERE, FOR THE BUYING!? RIGHT BEFORE THE GRASS GYM!?
Okay, forget EVERYTHING I said before, we are going on our gambling arc! I need those two Pokémon!! Where’s the Coin Case!?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those are…fine TMs, but it’s not the Coin Case! WHERE’S THE COIN CASE!?
Tumblr media
Oh, you’ve got to be…lemme guess, we don’t get the Coin Case until after we beat Florinia, right? Because giving the player access to a Fire-type and an Ice/Grass-type would make things a bit too easy in a Grass-type Gym, huh? Like how we couldn’t get an actual Ground-type for Julia’s Gym (unless you chose Mudkip as your starter, I guess)?
Alright, fine, game! We’ve got plenty of other Pokémon in the PC we can work with, we don’t…need a Fire-type…
So, with Onyx Arcade a bust, let’s get to work figuring out a team to take on Florinia. The thing about Florinia and Grass-types though is…unlike Julia and her Electric-types, it’s really hard for me to get a read on what she could have besides the monotype.
First of all, while Grass-types might have a lot of weaknesses, there are also many ways to counter those weaknesses, especially taking dual types into account. Unlike with Electric-types, where you can at least have the overall “Ground weakness” as like a safety net more often than not (and in the cases of Ground immunity, you can more easily guess the circumstances where that would apply), there is WAY more to think about with Grass-types.
A perfect example of what I mean is what I believe to be Florinia’s ace: Cradily. As a Rock/Grass type, it still retains several of the typical Grass weaknesses- namely Ice and Bug- with a few new weaknesses in the form of Fighting and Steel. However, being part Rock-type, trying to use Ice or Bug Pokémon against it is extremely dangerous, we don’t have access to Steel-types right now, which just kinda leaves Fighting as the truly safest option. Not to mention Cradily could have Ancient Power, and if it gets that omni-boost…oh boy, we’ll be in danger. And that’s just ONE Pokémon she could have!
Second of all, Florinia herself makes it really difficult to gauge what kind of Pokémon she might have as well.
Like- look at Julia. What can be said about her? She’s an Electric-type specialist, she’s a cheerleader, and she REALLY likes explosions. With that information, the player can easily guess she’ll have a Voltorb and/or an Electrode (indeed, she has both) due to her pyromania, Plusle and/or Minun (again, she has both) to connect to her being a cheerleader, and Pom-Pom Oricorio to both also connect to cheerleading and because it’s the logical counter to any attempts to do Ground things (being a Flying-type). There, right out of the gate, the player can deduce at least half (in reality, 5/6) of her team before even challenging her, just by her character traits.
For Florinia- well, it’s not that she isn’t a distinct character, she very much is. She’s the head instructor at a prestigious Trainers’ school, described as robotic, she’s highly intelligent, and she’s also good with technology. How does that translate into a Grass-type team? We know for a fact that she’ll have a Cradily- what else…?
An instructor for a Trainers’ school…Fighting-type, maybe? So, most realistically…Breloom? Perhaps a Psychic-type to reflect Florinia’s intelligence and to counter Poison-types…Exeggutor? Maybe she might also have Mow Rotom because…technology and hacking, and an Electric-type would be kinda cheeky? Being an intellectual, Florinia might be more apt to use more setup-themed strategies, like…entrance hazards. Ferroseed/Ferrothorn with Spikes might be good for that, in addition to resisting most of Grass’s typical weaknesses. And maybe she could also have Roselia/Roserade with Toxic Spikes (or just Toxic) for this same principle, and as a reference to her relation to Fern. Alternatively, I recall one NPC bringing up Vileplume and Bellossom- could that have been foreshadowing to Florinia’s team having one of those as well?
All in all- lots of words, very little concrete thoughts. It’s a bit…daunting, but I may be better off just trying to cover the general weaknesses of Grass-types as much as I can and going from there.
Thus, after digging around the PC, my current team is:
Tumblr media
Glare and Prong to cover Poison- and Bug-types, Claus to cover the Ice niche, our soon-to-be-renamed Noibat to cover Flying and have a whopping quad resistance to Grass, and Brawler specifically to help deal with Cradily. I don’t like the idea of having just one Pokémon to deal with just one opponent, but a Fighting-type seems like the best bet against the possibilities that Cradily can bring to the table.
Now, of course, some level-grinding is required, but before we embark to Grand Hall, there are a few other things I want to take care of. First of all, something that was brought to my attention by a reader- remember way back when, when I was really confused about what the Data Chip was for? Well, if we go into the PC, we go down and see an option that I kinda brushed off before…
Tumblr media
The “Add Password” option. Why did I ignore this option until now? I dunno- maybe I’m just so focused on going into the big Pokémon PC that I don’t really pay attention to the other options. Anyways, by selecting this option, we get taken here-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this is what the Data Chips are for- they’re what you use to input passwords! And this is how you put those passwords in if you didn’t do it with Ame at the start of the game! Which theoretically means I could use that “litemode” thing, but that’s NOT what I’m aiming for here! No- the one that I was made aware of was this one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this password does exactly what you think it does: it makes it so, as long as you have the proper TMX and Badge, you can use the TMXs in the field without needing to have a Pokémon learn the move! The very thing I ranted about before!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FAREWELL, WANNABE HMS! But did it actually work? Well, we need to head to Grand Hall anyways, so let’s test it out on a Headbutt tree.
Tumblr media
IT WORKS!
And now, there’s one more little thing we need to do- change the Noibat’s name at the Name Rater! Just need to…remember where the Name Rater’s house is. I know it’s in Peridot Ward, but like- where is it, again?
Is it up this way? Is it over this way? Do I go up and around the-
Tumblr media
…Why is Shelly hanging out with a fire-haired guy? Ah, whatever, I don’t have time to ask questions right now-
Tumblr media
There it is, finally! Let’s go in and finish up this little personal quest-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well joke’s on you Mr. Rater, that’s not an option in this game so here we are!!

POKEDDEX YOUR CHOICE! VOL 2 - DAYS 4-7: MANECTRIC, SYLVEON, BRELOOM AND ARCANINE
Looks like I forgot to post these here! My bad! To avoid spamming you I thought I’d just put them all in one post. I’ll try to keep up better from now on!
The fourth Pokemon is Manectric! I was hoping I'd get to draw this one! Manectric is such a neat Pokémon, kinda underappreciated if you ask me. My approach was a pretty straightforward mix of maned wolf and a regular wolf. I was considering brown hyena for a second but it didn't feel right so I just took inspiration for the long fur from it. Mega Manectric on the other hand would be a different challenge to tackle.
Sylveon was the only Fairy type that was suggested so it automatically won the spot! I have drawn Sylveon multiple times before and I didn't see a reason to change the design much. I just made this version more sugary and fluffy. I like drawing the Eeveelutions, it's always fun to play around with the different features and try pushing and pulling things. Weird feline-fox things. And there's more of them to come!
Breloom won the Fighting type poll by a mile! And for a good reason, it's such a cool Pokémon, one of my personal favourite concepts. Those of you who have been following me probably know that I have drawn Breloom a few times before so this isn't a new design, but rather a refined one. Once again the DrawDinovember challenge and its teachings came in handy!
I knew it was only a matter of time that you guys choose Arcanine. It's one of my favourites to draw, despite being so overly popular. To me it was never a question wether Arcanine is a canine or a feline because the features from both are so clearly visible. Arcanine's main inspiration is a lion/dog creature that has many names in different Eastern mythologies, take shisa for example. The fun part about Arcanine is to explore how much and which canine or feline features are shown ann how they manifest. Previously my designs have been more feline but this time, for variety's sake, I tried a slightly more canine approach (while still keeping some of the lion features) and it turned out pretty nice!

So since we know you guys like pokemon, can we see your ideal teams?
Corviknight, Ninetales, Galvantula, Suicune, Sylveon, and my star player Mega Absol.
These Pokémon mean more to me sentimentally than in regards to viability, but I'm the type to believe that our bonds outrank dumb things like "IVs" and whatever.
Honorable mentions go to Beedrill, Pidgeot, Gyarados, Lapras, the Gen III starters, Breloom, Torterra, Lucario (catch me in Mystery Dungeon as one of these; Ninetales is always my partner), any other Eeveelution, Samurott, Volcarona, Chesnaught, Coalossal, Flapple, Articuno, Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, Giratina, Kyurem, Yveltal, Eternatus, and, of course,
Tumblr media
Mr. Fish.
......I am surprisingly passionate about Pokémon.
Anyway, Jeanne?
Crank Lance up to 11 and give him every generation to work with.
Realistically I'd probably lead with a Hydreigon, but after that? Really just put any busted dragon in my hands. I'll even take draconic-looking dinosaurs, if they're fearsome enough. Tyranitar comes to mind.
I haven't really thought about a solid team. Feel like I'd just carry 30 different 'mons with me and adapt to whoever I'm fighting.
Every dragon I keep is absolutely packing Iron Tail, though.
Fair.
...
...Artoria—
្ Aegislash. Bastiodon or Chesnaught. Corviknight. Grimmsnarl. Hatterene. Mega Charizard X.
...Huh.
Well, I guess that's...
𐊨 ...Personally, I'd just like a Chespin and a Shieldon... maybe a Bulbasaur...? Grass-types are nice...

Shroomish and Breloom 🍄 This year I really need to get back into drawing more paleo and paleo-inspired art. Edit: I noticed an error I forgot to fix and I added more defined lighting.

suitsongirls replied to your post “I wish Pokemon were the type of game where I could realistically get...”
Buddy, just expand your view of plant girls. Female Torterra, female Dhelmise, Lilligant, female Leavanny, Female Venausaur, etc. You could also just run a hyper offence team, or do it in little cup, where fire types aren't as prominent, due to stuff like Onix.
chandela replied to your post “I wish Pokemon were the type of game where I could realistically get...”
@suitsongirls isn't dhelmise genderless ?_?
suitsongirls replied to your post “I wish Pokemon were the type of game where I could realistically get...”
Good point. Not Dhelmise then. Tangrowth maybe?? And there's always breloom, to hit steel types who would try to wall you.
Okay, all of those are real cool, but who’s beating Talonflame, or Zard-X with a boost, or really anything with type-advantage and a Scarf?  No one.  Mega-Venusaur maybe.  The problem is more that none of them are really all that fast, and Grass is not a defensive typing.
As for the discussion of expanded plant-girls, in what world is Lilligant not considered the plant girl?  I don’t think there’s a more iconic plant-girl in the game.  Also I’m a little disappointed.  All this talk of expanded plant-girl options, and no one mentioned Cradily, the best plant girl.

Nuzlocke Update 14/11/2017
Emerald:
Hello everyone!!!
Tumblr media
Current Team:
Danbo, the Breloom
Oaxaca, the Dustox
Cream, the Mightyena
Nacho, the Blaziken
Humboldt, the Tentacruel
Halloumi, the Trapinch
Oh boy. Today was not a good day. It started off nice by defeating Norman, but later then, tragedy struck. We lost 2 team members. On two separate occasions too. They were both part of the same pair. Caprino died surprisingly from a trainer’s Castform in Route 120. It was in the rain and the Castform knew Thunder. Even though he narrowly lived the hit he still died from the next. This caught me completely off guard. To the point where I probably could have salvaged the whole situation. But to be honest, there was probably very little I could have done. The other pokemon was Manectric who could have easily killed him with Spark. So his fate was probably decided from the beginning. It’s so sad. He is definitely one of the best team members. He took on Flannery by himself and was the team’s Surfer and Flyer. I was also planning on using him as my ace for Winona. He was a good bird. Definitely gonna miss him.
Now for Fontina. She died from a trainer’s Breloom in Route 117 (I think). That fight against the Breloom went perfectly for it. I used Headbutt, then it used counter, which brought Fontina to 10% HP. At this point, I panicked. I thought to myself, “FUCK FUCK FUCK I NEED TO KILL THIS THING ASAP”. Without even thinking, I press Headbutt and she used Mach Punch. This was awful from my part. If I just thought about it calmly and given it some time instead of rushing and making impulsive decisions, Fontina would have still been alive. She may not have been very useful in battle, but her Pickup ability was truly her saving grace. So many items. It saved so many trips to the pokemart and my money. She will be missed. May both of them rest in peace.
Now, moving forward I will try my absolute hardest to think out every decision, every possibility carefully. Both these deaths set me back 30 points, as well as the 40 pt wipe penalty from my previous run. So that’s 70 points gone as well as the 0 death 40 point bonus, which is what I was shooting for. I still want to be this month’s champion. It might not be realistic, I haven’t looked into it yet, but I have hope. My next course of action is to go back to the grind. I need to level up this new pair and take on Winona, then back to grinding for Tate & Liza. These next battles are tough. Releasing right now is definitely out of the question. I must get as much points as I can. I must win.

Nuances of Necessity: Chapter One
Summary: While studying the changes that took place after Virgil became accepted into the family, Logan makes a startling discovery about himself.
Pairings: platonic LAMP/CALM
Word Count: 1,022
Warnings: Touch starvation, panic attacks, anxiety, food, ~science experiment~.
Notes: So this is the beginning of the touch-starved Logan fic that I’ve been talking about literally for a month. Hope you enjoy it! <3 ~Martin
It had started a couple months after Virgil had been accepted fully into the family. It was slow, gradual, but Logan noticed these kinds of things and paid close attention to them. The overall levels of anxiety in the mindscape and in Thomas's life started to go down. That wasn't fully unexpected, of course. Accepting one’s anxiety and learning to work with it instead of constantly fighting it did generally lead to an improved mood.
And after the initial shock and distrust of the situation, Virgil seemed to have a better mood as well. He wasn't as unpredictable in his panic attacks, he didn't butt heads with Roman quite as much, and he even sometimes laughed at Patton’s jokes without covering his mouth. It was interesting to watch the transformation, and Logan began to get curious about the direct causational factors.
Instead of asking Virgil (he might not know, anyway, it was better to look at it objectively), Logan set up an observation notebook to write down everything he noticed that happened differently than before the transition:
Day One: Virgil came out of his room for breakfast with us. He sat next to Patton, who leaned closer so their shoulders were touching the whole time. Virgil did not pull away like he would have previously. He then offered to help clean up, but Roman used his control over the mindscape so that the dishes washed themselves, picked Virgil up and carried him to the couch, teasing him about something. Virgil stayed to watch a few episodes of a TV show with him before going back to his room. He didn’t emerge again until dinner, though Patton brought him some lunch. Dinner was uneventful save for Roman deciding to play show tunes the whole time, which was irritating.
Day Two: Virgil and Patton baked sugar cookies together (note: slightly dry, but went excellently with a few spoonfuls of Crofter’s) all morning. Roman is off on a quest and may not return for a few days. After lunch, Virgil put on his headphones and sat on the couch listening to music while I read. Patton claimed to be cleaning his room for a few hours (probably cleaned for five minutes before becoming distracted and just looking through memories, but that is what he counts as cleaning) and then came back downstairs to sit on the couch. Virgil put his head in Patton’s lap without prompting.
Day Three: Roman is still on his quest. Virgil seems slightly on edge. I will see if I can help ease his anxieties...He says he is alright. Probably just worried for Roman, though that is not rational. Roman’s injuries in his realm always heal very quickly once he is back in the commons of the mindscape, and it is impossible for us to die. Patton seemed to know more than I do (which I do not appreciate) and took Virgil outside to go for a walk around the park that Roman constructed for us years ago. Virgil seemed calmer when they returned and fell asleep on Patton’s shoulder while they watched a movie after dinner.
Day Four: Uneventful. Virgil stayed in his room for the most part and Patton did not seem very concerned. He seemed to think that I was worried when I asked him about Virgil, and offered to hug me, which I declined. (Really, he should know better by now. Physical contact is not something I require, nor was I worried or in need of any reassurance.) Virgil came down for dinner and seemed tired. He went right to bed afterwards.
Day Five: Roman still has not returned from his quest, which is odd. He is usually back by the third day. Hopefully, he will return soon, because I think his absence might be causing Virgil distress. He has been quiet all day and only reluctantly lets Patton sit beside him and hold his hand while his headphones are on. Roman is still gone. It is nearly midnight.
Day Six: I was the only one who came to the kitchen for breakfast. When I went looking for Patton and Virgil, I found them in the hallway between their rooms. Virgil was having a fairly severe panic attack and Patton was attempting to soothe him. My hypothesis was correct, and Virgil is extremely upset that Roman has not returned. He tried to flee back to his room to deal with the attack by himself like he must have before he was accepted, but Patton did not let him. He said something I am not sure I understood-- “Remember what we talked about, Virgil, come here.” And Virgil sat down with him, allowing him to stroke his back while I counted the breathing exercise. When Virgil had calmed down, Patton helped him downstairs and held him on the couch. Roman finally came back late this afternoon. Virgil hugged him for a long time, though he sounded angry when he told Roman to never be gone that long again.
Day Seven: I think I may have discovered the factor. Apart from just general kindness and companionship that Virgil is now experiencing, he is also receiving regular physical affection--particularly from Patton (and in hindsight, I can recall how Virgil gradually stopped flinching away from every touch and started leaning into and then initiating it first with Patton and then slowly with Roman as well). He barely let go of Roman today, sitting very close together on the couch as they watched movies and Roman napped, tired from his quest. I think that tomorrow, if I have a chance, I may ask Patton if he knows anything about this, and what he meant yesterday. What exactly did he want Virgil to remember that they had talked about? If my hypothesis is confirmed, I will have even more questions. How and why does frequent physical touch improve Virgil’s mood so much, and why is it that having one of the two people with whom he engages in this touch gone for only a few days so drastically disquiet him again? Even though Patton was still there? I will ask him tomorrow.
The chapters for this fic are short (much shorter than my usual chapters), but I think I might do a chapter a day? At least for a while? Who knows, honestly. I’ll figure it out. I’m still exhausted af from VidCon, and probably not making the best decisions. Love you guys, stay safe! *hugs* <3 ~Martin
