Random thought:
Twoflower would go to Jurassic Park, somehow miss all the worst aspects of it, and then leave a positive review, probably about how interesting it was that there were so many kinds of dragons and how the Luggage enjoyed playing with some of them. At most he'd say that they might invest in better security measures and some in-sewer-ants because of how the dinosaurs were not very well behaved and anyway it was so easy to wander into nesting sites, the Luggage probably had no idea that it was destroying all those nests. Then he'd apologize and offer to pay for damages that the Luggage caused to property, guests, nests, and dinosaurs.
Rincewind would be too fast to be worth the effort of whatever dinosaurs tried to go after him, and even if they tried the Luggage would take care of it.

I wasn't able to pack any of my Discworld books when I moved (they're all still at my parents' place) and suddenly they're the only thing I want to read right now. I guess I could buy something on kindle but I really don't want to spend any more money *cries*

I glanced over the e-reader of the guy sitting next to me on the bus and lo and behold, it was a Terry Pratchett novel. In Italian. Like. What are the odds

And so many things I didn’t have the room to write: the very idea of creation, the mages being even more useless than Rincewind in the presence of a woman (especially the Senior Wrangler), Rincewind meeting drag queens, the presence or evocation of all the specimens of the Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler species, ethology of the Luggage, the Librarian changing in several shapes with more or less success (including one especially amazing scene)... guys, this book is a TRIP (pun non intended)

Exploring the Magic of Discworld: Terry Pratchett's Fantasy World
In the often bewildering tapestry of literary fantasy, few creations are as audaciously imaginative as Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. Perched precariously on the backs of four cosmic elephants, which in turn stand atop the shell of a colossal turtle (Great A’Tuin, for the uninitiated) swimming through the vastness of space, the Discworld presents a universe that is as bizarre as it is…

Rincewind: *trying to get Twoflower to stop drawing attention to themselves*
Twoflower: Bravely bold Mr. Rincewind Rode forth from mmphh-
Rincewind's hand: *covering Twoflower's mouth as people start to notice them*
Twoflower, not the least bit concerned: He was not afraid to die, Oh brave Mr. Rincewind. He was not at all afraid To be killed in nasty ways. Brave, brave, brave, brave Mr. Rincewind!

I'm re-reading the Discworld series for reasons, and honestly the most relatable part of reading these as an adult is how many of the protagonists start out being tired, used to their little routine and vaguely disgruntled by the interruption of the Plot. Sam Vimes wants to lie drunk in a gutter and absolutely doesn't want to be arresting dragons. Rincewind is yanked into every situation he's ever encountered, though he'd much rather be lying in a gutter too. (Minus the alcohol. Plus regretting everything he's ever done said witnessed or even heard about fourth-hand in his whole life.) Granny Weatherwax is deeply suspicious of foreign parts and that includes the next town over; Nanny has leaned into the armor of "nothing ever happens to jolly grannies who terrorize their daughters-in-law and make Saucy Jokes"
Only the young people don't seem to have picked up on this---and that's fortunate, because someone has to run around making things happen, if only so Vimes and Granny and Rincewind have a reason to get up (complaining bitterly the whole time) and put it all to rights. Without Carrot, Margrat, Eric, etc. these characters don't have that reason; they're likely to stay in the metaphorical gutter and keep wondering where it all went wrong or why anything has to change.
............well, that's not quite true. You get the sense that Vetinari knows how much certain people hate the Plot. And as the person sitting behind the metaphorical lighting board of Ankh-Morpork, he takes no small pleasure in forcing the Plot-haters specifically to stand up, and say some lines.

Royal Mail celebrates 40th anniversary of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series with special stamps
Royal Mail has today revealed eight Special Stamps they are issuing to celebrate Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, making the 40th anniversary of The Colour of Magic, his first book in the series. The stamps can be pre-ordered today, and will be available for general purchase as of 10 August 2023.
Fans can get their hands on stamps featuring Rincewind, The Librarian, Granny Weatherwax, Sam Vimes, and Great A’Tuin, as well as specially commissioned artworks of Death and Mort, Tiffany Aching and Moist von Lipwig, all of which are by Terry’s illustrator of choice for the Discworld series, Paul Kidby.
Royal Mail have been working closely with the Terry Pratchett Estate and Paul at the link above.
Illustrator, Paul Kidby says: “It has been a huge honour to illustrate this set of stamps to commemorate 40 years of Discworld. I am delighted to finally be able to tell people about it as it has been a big secret to keep! It’s a wonderful celebration of Terry’s ongoing legacy and continued popularity.”
David Gold, Director of External Affairs and Policy at Royal Mail says: “These striking stamps will be loved by generations both young and old. Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels remain as popular as ever and it is fitting that in the 40th anniversary year of The Colour of Magic, we celebrate with a set of stamps that honour the work of an iconic and globally admired writer.”
The Discworld stamps are available to pre-order via Royal Mail’s website, by telephone on 03457 641 641 and at 7,000 Post Office branches across the UK. A Presentation Pack including all eight stamps in the set is also available and is priced at £13.50.
If you're overseas (or in the UK obvs!) and want to get them, you can buy them online and they *will* ship overseas!

Inside every sane person there's a madman struggling to get out, said the shopkeeper, that's what I've always thought. No one goes mad quicker than a totally sane person.
-Terry Pratchett, The Light Fantastic (via the Cursed Shopkeeper)
..........................
Reading this gave me a double take because this theme is carried throughout almost all the books, especially among main characters. The Witches Series have loads of characters like these, Vimes has his mad dark alter-ego, the Vampire always live at the edge, the Rats from Maurice and his Talented Rodents, the Wizards from Sourcery, Rincewind when he loses all self-control, Jeremy Clockson.
You'd think it's a throwaway quote from the early books but it is not. It is a theme Terry Pratchett always played around with. Amazing. Truly Amazing.

Took a brief detour from my usual Doctor Who character designs to veer back into the Discworld.
I can't tell you how much this series meant to me as a teenager, and what an impact it still has on me as a writer. I've wanted to take a crack at this beautiful lot for ages. Featuring Mort, Death, Lord Vetinari (and Wuffles), Vimes, Moist, and Rincewind.
