Wow, I am still reeling from seeing this event. One of the most profound dance-music-theatre experiences I have ever had.

If Elle Sofa Sara comes to a town near you, you should RUN to see and hear them.

From the Show notes:

“Elle Sofe is the voice of the Sami people, expressing their efforts to battle injustice and to retain and celebrate their culture, mirroring the experience of many of the world's indigenous peoples, including here in Canada.  We join the procession of the seven women in the show, marching in unity as they invite us into an evening of polyphonic Yoiking and powerful movement.”

The clips on Youtube do not do this Sami choreographer and the troop justice. Nonetheless, I will post to get the word out there.

Different (better) costumes inside and out than shown in the clips below. The performance started outside in -15 degree weather, before following them inside to the theatre and it ended with the seven dancers leaving the theatre.

Here’s a Malek twin daydream I’ve had lately. For context this past summer I did a kids playwriting course for an arts camp. This fall I’ve taken in the role of leading the jr. group for our local theatre most my kids are middle schoolers. Anyway this fall I’m working with the teachers in the English department for kiddos to write some plays and then we’ll have a show. Anyway I keep thinking how it’d be if Sami was one of those teachers…then maybe he could get his brother to come help the students with the acting parts and introduce him to the cute theatre teacher 😝

That is a beautiful daydream, dear anon! And you know what? I can clearly see them both helping out. Wouldn't be the first time the twins are together on stage!

I went and saw hamilton for the final show in melbourne today 😭😭

it was so bittersweet as the last performance for a few of the original cast members and the company now moving onto brisbane

the entire cast gave 110%, the audience was cheering and laughing all throughout but you could hear a pin drop in the silences at the end of burn, jason had to wait what felt like forever for the cheers to go down after the first ‘alexander hamilton’, everyone roared for stefan when he came out as seabury, lyndon and marty’s dancing after the bows was a+ lmao, the standing o lasted throughout the entire final instrumental

I am very sad the show is leaving but glad new people get to enjoy the immense talent the australian cast has to offer!!!!!!

Nightwish - The Phantom of the Opera 2002

"The Phantom of the Opera" is a song from the 1986 stage musical of the same name, based on the 1910 French novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux, which tells the tragic story of a beautiful soprano, Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, masked musical genius living in the subterranean labyrinth beneath the Paris Opéra House. The song was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics written by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe, and additional lyrics by Mike Batt. The song was originally recorded by Sarah Brightman and Steve Harley, which became a UK hit single in 1986, prior to the musical. Listen to it here! The Phantom of the Opera was the longest running show in Broadway history, and celebrated its 10,000th performance on February 11, 2012, becoming the first Broadway production in history to do so. The original West End production at Her Majesty's Theatre, London, ended its run in 2020, its run cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Kitee. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer Tarja Turunen. The band soon picked up drummer Jukka Nevalainen, and then bassist Sami Vänskä after the release of their debut album, Angels Fall First (1997). In 2001, Vänskä was replaced by Marko Hietala, who also took over the male vocalist role previously filled by Holopainen or guest singers.

In 2002, Nightwish released Century Child, along with the singles "Ever Dream" and "Bless the Child". Century Child was certified gold two hours after its release, and platinum two weeks afterwards. It set a record on the Finnish album charts of most distance between a first place album and the second place. An enduring favorite of fans is the band's version of "The Phantom of the Opera". The song was routinely played in concerts until October 21, 2005, when vocalist Tarja Turunen was fired from the band and later replaced with Anette Olzon, whereupon the band announced that they would never play the song live again. This would hold true for 17 years until November 27 and 28, 2022, when Nightwish was joined by Dutch singer Henk Poort on stage at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam to perform the song. Marko Hietala joined Tarja Turunen at a couple of her solo shows in 2023 to sing "The Phantom of the Opera" with her. They are set to tour together in Spring 2024 in Latin America on Tarja's "Living The Dream – The Hits Tour".

The Gaza Monologues: Audio Production in Solidarity with Palestine!

The Gaza Monologues is a collection of testimonies from Gazan youth in 2010, after the first war on Gaza, collected and adapted for stage by ASHTAR Theatre in Ramallah (@ASHTARTheatre), and performed here by 26 people from several countries for International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People on November 29, 2023. In lieu of copyright purchases, ASHTAR Theatre requests donations to their programs in the West Bank.

This is an audio-only production of The Gaza Monologues, but is posted as a video to include subtitles. Most monologues are in English, but there are two in Arabic, two in Spanish, and one in French. English subtitles are available for all monologues. Currently, subtitles in Arabic, Spanish, and French are only up for the monologues that are spoken in each respective language, though we’ll try to get subtitles up for others in the near future. The script of The Gaza Monologues is available in those languages and more.

Beats me.)

Roger received the George C. Heslin Artistic Leadership Award for his outstanding work in the theatre, film and motion caption industries. The award was presented at Origin Theatre's Annual Gala in New York.

Other honorees include Consul General Helena Nolan and her Husband Sami Dahdouh, who were presented The Tom Moran Business to Arts Award, for their exceptional contribution to Irish Arts, Culture and Theatre in our community in New York.
