headcanons centering main cast’s passive abilities

I just think having your power constantly manifest itself in some way would be pretty impactful on your life actually

If Remi goes into a room with a lot of complex electrical stuff going on (a computer lab maybe) she’ll start getting a headache from how overstimulating it is. She functions as a portable phone charger which Blyke and Isen take full advantage of. She can identify any circuitry problem by just. feeling how the electricity is flowing through the device

Seraphina always knows exactly what time it is down to the millisecond. John always asks her what time it is just to annoy her. 

arlo tried to get more piercings once, but it didn’t work because his passive defense stopped it from happening. Any sort of invasive medical procedure does Not work on him. This includes IVs and needles in general (he hasn’t gotten vaccinated in 2 years). honestly i have a million headcanons centering arlo’s passive and his theoretical medical trauma

John uses his aura detection to sneak up on people and jumpscare them. by people i do mean arlo. 

isen’s (not a high tier but i had the idea and wanted to put it here) eyes are based on tracking movement, so he has a really hard time with focusing on things that are stationary. what im saying is that his ability gave him both adhd and dyslexia. he has hair trigger reflexes that let him crush Blyke at video games which pisses Blyke off to no end.

How UnOrdinary Characters would react if you told them that you wanted to become a vigilante:

(Hi guys, my first post like this exploded! Thanks for all the support!)

TW: swearing

John:

-He would freeze up, reminiscing what had happened to other vigilantes and wishing that you would change your mind

-He would try to tel you to reconsider but you stood firm.

-You two would argue about it ending up in him leaving to cool off and the two of you reconnecting later

-He says it’s ok but begs you to be careful, telling you that he’s going to train you in hand-to-hand combat first

-You tell him you will be and the two of you end up playing video games the rest of the day

Sera:

-would be open to it

-tells you not to be a dumbass and get yourself banged up or killed

-helps you make your costume

-teaches you pointers she learned from John about how to beat ass

Remi:

-When you say you want to be a vigilante shes not surprised.

-she tells you she’s also one and that so are Blyke and Isen.

-she helps you with your costume, your fighting style (not your vigilante name tho)

-you end up going on a patrol with her, Iswn and Blyke to see how it’s done

(cue epic fight scene)

Blyke:

-he’s surprised that you want to become one but ends up helping you train first

-you have your costume put together but he helps u come up with a name that you won’t have to come up with on the spot

-he takes you on patrol with him and it goes smooth-ish (save for beating up a few assholes)

Isen:

-bro is shooketh

-he did not originally want anyone else getting involved but like, now you are

-he help you come up with a name and a costume, keeping an eye out for you

-half tries to teach you how to fight, stating that Remi and Blyke, who are also vigilantes would help you with that part

-get you a mask that covers your whole face

-he tries to talk you out of it at first but you tell him that you’re becoming one and he accepts it eventually with a long sigh

Arlo:

-bro is shook

-he doesn’t want you to get caught by the government too, not wishing to lose ALL of his friends

-he’s tired asf

-he heavily tries to convince you out of it but you tell him that this decision is final

-he tel you he doesn’t want you getting caught or being seen like that because that’ll put a target on your back

-you reassure him but he’s still a skeptic

-he says a reluctant “fine” and lets you start to become one

-checks on you frequently and gets Elaine to heal you if shit hits the fan(oh it will)

i’m not that other anon anon but sera is the farthest thing from a mary sue. not trying to fight u or anything just wanted to discuss /gen

her whole life she’s been conditioned to be perfect so yeah she’s gonna be good at a lot of things, but the webcomic definitely shows she’s not as good as john at martial arts or anything. he was kinda going easy on her, and she probably trained off camera lol. it isn’t just john’s story either, she’s also a main protagonist. she has a lot of flaws as well, and i think what anon meant was how a lot of people tend off to brush off the female characters, focusing on the men instead. sera might have been a bitch at the beginning, but she’s changed a lot and if anything has gone through a shit ton of pain and we’ve seen so many of her flaws.

also, seraphina digging into johns past is the one thing that ended up saving him. Yes, she crossed boundaries, but he never would have been ready to share that with her in the state he was in. she didn’t reach out to claire to be malicious, she reached out because she was worried about him and wanted to know what was happening so she could help

honestly this makes sense. thank you for talking to me about this in a more mature way than the other anon 😭

the point about the conditioned to be perfect thing makes a lot of sense and clears up some things about my misunderstandings.

i think i have a lot of trouble actually seeing characters? i dont know if that makes sense, but i dont understand a lot of character flaws or connect with many characters, so its easy for me to make incorrect assumptions.

i also didnt really understand why she reached out with claire. i feel like uru-chan didnt really elaborate much on why, she just did it and thats it. or maybe i was just misunderstanding sera again idk 😔

seraphina gets an unnecessary amount of critiscm; mostly on the basis of her character development and writing, and most of it is unfounded and blatantly untrue.

youre all just looking for a reason to shit on her.

she is developed-- in fact, she's changed a lot since we first saw her and even before that.

she's in no way the same as she was when she went out to boba with john or before that when she beat him up for outsmarting her. she's grown. she's had a tremendous amount of development, mostly in a positive direction.

since she rebelled against her parents, she went to the exact opposite extreme, and from then on she had to learn to find a healthy balance. even from when she first started doing what she wanted to do, she still had the mindset of a high tier. she still thought of the stronger person always being in the right.

she's changed from then. she doesn't think like that anymore.

and yes, she has been vulnerable before. she was vulnerable after she lost her ability, and when the school turned against her, and when illena and co kidnapped her.

her "lack of empathy" isn't exactly a bad thing, either. yes, she seems to struggle with putting herself in others' shoes, but she's still kind and compassionate nonetheless. she was just as equally affected by the joker situation as everything else.

and her motivations continually surrounding john? that's her one: dependant relationship with him, two: her sense of responsibility/guilt to the joker arc, and three: a subconcious behavioral pattern mirroring her devotion to her parents.

their relationship is nice but it's not the healthiest. this is repeatedly shown but not explictly stated because it's also something both john and sera aren't aware of yet. we as the audience are supposed to pick up on it since they're unreliable narrators.

she does have flaws; in her habit of taking on everything for herself, in her pushing people away, in her arrogance.

seraphina's frankly a wonderfully written character and if you've got a bone to pick with her writing, then go find a different webtoon or reread the episodes.

Thinking about how that if in that fight between John and Sera, if John hadn’t used Zeke’s ability as well as Cecile Remi and Arlo’s then he wouldn’t have had his maximum of 4 abilities, meaning he could’ve used Sera’s ability as well, and the fight might’ve come to a very different outcome

Sure, he wouldn’t have been quite as fast as Sera, maybe he’d be on the level of her mom or Leilah, but if he had the ability to move the vines lightning and barrier at time manipulated level speeds, while Sera was having trouble keeping conscious with her ability active, then fuck dude that would have all gone to shit

every character is supposed to drive john in a certain direction because john is the main character. the protagonist. its HIS story, for the most part. however, every character also has their own smaller stories, such as sera's situation with spectre or the powertrio dealing with ember

sera has been exceeding where john fails for a while now. she helps him with his homework because hes an idiot academically. shes more mature than he is (as is VERY obvious in joker/king arc). she succeeds where john fails the entirety of the joker/king arcs. the entire point of those arcs were to show how john fails. literally every character was doing better than him

just because sera is his best friend and supports him doesnt mean shes only a "handmaiden." she has her own stories, relationships, personality, skills.

i dont mind sera. i just dont want her to be perfect.
