TMNT 2012 Girls in a Group Chat Headcanons
Kinda already discuss a little of this concept HERE, but I wanted to play with the idea more of the TMNT girls (April, Karai, Renet, Mona Lisa, Shinigami & Alopex) all in a group chat together, here's how it would go:
April: Often text the girls to rant about the Turtles, or share something hilarious that they did that's kinda embarrassing to them. Sends funny GIFs, mostly of cats. Always turns to the group chat to rant about her problems, they don't always give her good advice, 4 out of 5 of them recommend stabbing.
Karai: Usually only responds to one specific person (Shini), will take forever to respond if April is trying to talk to her. Sends pics of bad guys she and Shini defeated to brag. When visiting Japan, she sends pics of the landscapes and scenery. Her and Shini sometimes unintentionally flirt in the group chat.
Renet: Sends very old outdated memes, thinking no one has ever seen them before (everyone has but pretends they haven't to make her happy). Has given everyone funny nicknames, calls April "gingerbread" and Karai "serpent queen" etc. Usually she is the last to respond. Sends selfies of her with historical figures while on her time travel missions to the chat.
Mona Lisa: Text in full complete sentences. Gets confused with text abbreviations. Responds with one long text instead of multiple short text. Uses the wrong emojis, but no one has the guts to correct her cause it's kinda funny. Text the girls for advice on what outfits she should wear on her date with Raph.
Shinigami: Usually responds with tons of emojis. Always uses text abbreviations like "lol", "jk", "idk", "ttyl" etc instead of using actual words. Keeps on changing the group chat name to annoy April. Always has the tea and is ready to talk shit about anyone. Likes the cat GIFs April sends.
Alopex: Only ever respond with an "okay" or a thumbs up emoji. Is practically dead, barely responses. Usually leaves everyone on "read".

⸻  RAEVIL’S  LIGHTSTICKS  !
active since 2016, RAEVIL raised up a storm with their controversial yet very popular debut! during their first two years of promoting, GLASSHOUSE occasionally teased about their upcoming lightstick, but refused to officially announce anything. finally, after almost three years since their debut, the company informed that their first lightstick was in the making.

EVILBONG VER. #ONE : released on august 15th, 2019.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
officially called EVILBONG, RAEVIL's first lightstick was complimented for looking sleek yet fitting their concept to a t. the lightstick features a white dome, with the group's unofficial logo in the centre of a circle surrounded by vines. right underneath the orb, there is a brooch with a 3d serpent design, which fans connected with RAEVIL's second single, SERPENT, which was released a year before. the handle has the group's name engraved into it, and there's an option for NEMESIS to buy a special version where they could submit their name / alias to be engraved at the back of the handle.
after the lightstick dropped, there were so many photos and selfies of members holding it and waving it around with lights turned on. the lightstick's manual came as a mini booklet, with members featured inside, showing how to use the lightstick with different modes. they were made to look like they came out of a comic book, which fans loved to see because it was the first time the group did something so cute since their debut.
MODEL NAME : EVILBONG ( VER. #ONE )
LIGHTSTICK POWER : AAA SIZE x 3EA
USAGE TIME : UP TO 3 HOURS

Tumblr media
REALBONG VER. #TWO : released on october 30th, 2023.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
released on the group's seventh anniversary, REALBONG is significantly more popular than EVILBONG, which says a lot, considering the first lightstick received almost a million pre-orders not even two weeks after being announced. the second one doubled that during the same period, making it the most wanted lightstick from GLASSHOUSE artists. the new design is made to look like a dome cage instead of their simple look and the lights are coming from the crystal inside of the cage, made to look like a torch once turned on. instead of their signature serpent brooch, REALBONG has an intricate design that no one seems to guess correctly as to what it is. the buttons to use the lightstick are in the back instead of the front, are easy to use and fans are able to swing it around with no worries they'll accidentally press the lightstick off.
this time, instead of a booklet manual, the fans received a simple QR code printed on the box, which, upon being scanned, would bring them to GLASSHOUSE's official website, where they'd be able to watch private video instructions of RAEVIL members showing how to turn it on and the modes it has. the idea of getting such an interesting manual received considerable attention, that it prompted someone to leak it on social media for people who don't have their lightstick or are not even their fans.
MODEL NAME : REALBONG ( VER. #TWO )
LIGHTSTICK POWER : AAA SIZE x 3EA
USAGE TIME : UP TO 5 HOURS
LIGHT COLOURS : JACK-O'-LANTERN ( #e17958 ) & OUIJA SPIRIT BOARD ( #dcd4d1 ) ー FANDOM COLOURS + TEARS OF BLOOD ( #cd0027 ) & PALE FACED ( #ffffff ) FOR DIFFERENT LIGHT MODES

Kataang “But it’s only a 2-year age difference!” argument
Ah yes.  The amount of times KAs bellow this, along with “...but Katara was a mother to everyone!” can wallpaper my entire apartment.
Let me deep-dive as to why a 2-year age difference is actually much more significant between a mature teenager like Katara and a carefree kid like Aang, particularly in the universe of ATLA.
The ATLA world isn’t structured like our modern day, where 14/15-year-old girls worry about Algebra tests and Homecoming dates, or 12/13-year-old boys only have to skip down a couple blocks from their junior high to the big-kid school to meet their first crush “forever girl” for some ice-cream and Instagram Selfies after her friendly tennis practice, and French Kiss under the bleachers before her big brother catches them and nearly vomits from Oogies.
Oh no.  The ATLA world is very much a dystopian, post-war world... where children like Katara, Sokka, Suki, Jet, Yue, Azula and Zuko had to forfeit any sense of normal childhood and instead take up more mature responsibilities for themselves and those around them.  Toph even had to learn to be independent and raise herself for survival, despite being the same age as Aang.
What separates Aang from the other young characters is that he actually got to have a normal childhood.
Aang lived in the air temples, where monks lived in isolation and cultivated their own food and treated living things differently from the rest of the world.  They travelled everywhere, but kids like Aang were shielded from any sense of conflict or confrontation, and they definitely weren’t raised to see the world as a societal, economical hierarchy.  The pre-ATLA AirNomad world raised carefree innocent kids who got to take their time to grow up, because they never had to prepare for a brutal, cruel, unforgiving world where people and creatures they loved could die outside of natural causes.
Aang mastered airbending naturally, and for fun.  It wasn’t to prepare for war, but for his proud cultural heritage.  On the other hand, Katara worked herself to the bone to master waterbending... not for fun... but to fight in a war, to help train the Avatar to end this 100-year-war, and to maintain a delicate connection to her cultural heritage that has all but died out.
Katara and Aang’s perspectives have been different since the beginning.
And the “2 years is not that big a deal!” argument totally overlooks their maturity gap as characters.
Katara was a girl raised in a remote war-torn village in the South Pole.  She lost her mother in this war and had to internalize that grief for years as she took up more adult responsibilities to help her small village.  By the time she was Aang’s age, she cooked for people, cleaned for people, helped raise other people’s children... and, as seen in the S.2 episode “The Serpent’s Pass,” she didn’t flinch when having to deliver babies out of women’s vaginas.
Katara is 14, going on 25.
Aang, not having been raised in a war, was a kid.  He was that carefree, playful, innocent soul up in the Southern Air Temple who loved games, and recess, and pulling pranks on his teachers.  At the age of 12, Aang still hasn’t had to learn to be responsible in an economical world that functions through jobs, currency, and self-sufficiency (and he’ll probably never have to, since the Avatar title rewards him with free-loading hospitality anywhere he goes).  When Katara someone isn’t willing to cook for him, Aang’s instinct is to dumpster-dive for lettuce, as seen in the S.3. episode “The Headband”.  This is also the episode where, not only is Katara comfortable enough to dress up as Aang’s (pregnant!) mom, but Aang gleefully shows off his grade-school crafting skills with dried-macaroni collage artwork of Ozai-- you know, the kind that children usually give to their parents to proudly post on the refrigerator?  And this wasn’t sweet-innocent doe-eyed Aang from Season 1.  This was kid-emotionally-processing-some-real-world-shit-Season 3 Aang.  His maturity was still lacking.  And let’s not forget that, before the iceberg... the most horrifying thing Aang had to deal with was cleaning his own room.
Aang was 12, going on 8.
Even in the final scene of the show, Aang is still that kid, sitting on the ground and playfully teasing his pet lemur with a toy while the older teens mingle with tea and paintings and critical-thinking games like PaiSho.
The maturity gap was very much present through the end.
And I have a hard time believing Aang even knew what a vagina was, by the time he and Katara french-kissed in the finale.
Look.  The point is not whether or not Aang did know.  The point is, you, a hypothetical Kataang fan... had to stop for a moment to consider that.
And that’s what makes Kataang weird.
Now excuse me while I grab some more wallpaper glue. :P

The beauty of Akali's base splash art (art by Jessica "OwleyCat" Oyhenart)
One of the reasons a triangle in composition is so common is that if you place a human figure above the horizon line in an image and look up at them, they will form that kind of shape. Hell, try it right now on your selfie camera. And it’s important not to buy into any of that “sacred geometry!” nonsense you sometimes hear thrown around about it, because, like, yeah, Raphael loved the triangle composition, but that’s not because it has any special renaissance magic to it, it’s just a convenient way to arrange an image, and plenty of people do it without even thinking. Now, when the triangle as a compositional element is used intentionally, it can be really strong tool for storytelling, and a great way to establish power hierarchy in a scene.
Tumblr media
And that’s very much the story of Akali’s splash art. It is a moment of quiet, after Akali has just smoke bombed and absolutely iced a group of Noxians, and now she’s looking over her shoulder menacingly, as though scanning for other targets, or daring anyone to take a shot at her. She forms a triangle shape dominating the middle of the image, and with her head placed on top we get the immediate visceral sense that “this character is powerful.”
The light is being used to play up that drama. The face is in shadow intensifying the expression, but that muscled powerful back and shoulder, and her arm holding the razor sharp kama, those are highlighted, as well as that deadly dragon tattoo, with its edges tinged in gold. And especially the reflections on that tattoo are just a gorgeous touch, it gives the tattoo volume and presence, as though it might leap off her back to snap at you, and it emphasizes the power of her body.
Shoutouts to the rendering on that smoke, too, it looks thick and almost liquid and as it passes over a serpent or dragon statue on the right side of the image it almost looks as though a living snake is hiding here.
And that’s visual storytelling, that’s Akali: the dragon hiding in the haze, on the boundary between light and shadow. That’s also why she’s bisected by that light, and why the light and shadow is cutting the image almost in half. That’s where she is as a person. Gorgeous.
