Regulus Black
Pomfrey had helped Regulus Black with many things. She knew about his home state, and his bipolar disorder. As well as his sh problem, she tried so many times for him to stop. Yet he would come back unconscious, and bleeding out of his thighs. It didn't help much when he came out as trans, his parents had hexed him when they found out he was trans. Orion and Walburga had called him many slurs since, and forced him to keep all his clothes, and his long hair, as well as his dead name. Regulus couldn't feel comfortable in his own body,good thing Madame Pomfrey was to the rescue. She learned a few spells to help the poor boy, Regulus was forever thankful for Poppy, he had shorter more masculine hair, and no longer in his female body. Mother Pomfrey learned about him liking a certain boy named James Potter, she smiled seeing him learn more about his sexuality. She happily tried to set them up on many dates, Sirius being painfully oblivious and tagging along. Regulus hated Sirius for leaving him behind, leaving him with Walburga and Orion. Sirius knew how bad the 'parent's were and still he ran away to the Potter's house. After that Regulus' manic episodes became more frequent, Pomfrey came to rescue, giving him his pills and comforting Regulus. She pained seeing him so hurt, after Sirius ran Regulus had more scares from his parents and himself. His whole life was coming apart so fast. Although he finally had James Potter there for him, James was like an owl sending notes to the Black Brothers. The brothers saw last their differences and forgave one another. Sirius found out about James and Regulus dating and was so happy his brother and his closest best friend were together. Years later Pomfrey found out about Regulus' death through the newspaper. She screamed, and cried laying her head against Minerva's neck. Minerva and Poppy held each other close crying.
Remus Lupin
Madame Pomfrey was the first at Hogwarts to learn about him being a werewolf, spending many times helping him with his scars. With that much time together she also knew about his love for Sirius Black, Pomfrey encouraged him to become open and accept himself, Poppy herself was an open bisexual. Over the years the boy ran to Pomfrey for comfort, resulting in calling her mom a few times, she always smiled and chuckled watching his face blush in embarrassment. After THE prank Remus spent weeks crying in Pomfrey's arms, the man Moony loved had betrayed him. Everyone had learnt about him being a Werewolf thanks to Severus Snape, students ran away or taunted the poor boy. Poppy, and James had comforted Remus during the hard times. Once things went back to 'normal' Pomfrey gave Remus "a little push" as she calls it, and Remus had asked Sirius out. Sirius said yes and they had gone out for the majority of their school years. Once school ended Sirius went to Azkaban for a framed murder of James and Lily Potter. Poppy is still heart broken over the death of the lovely friendship, she was close with them as well. Though she had to hide her pain to help Remus, it was the worst state he's been in. Remus thought his love was a murderer, his two other best friend we dead, Mary MacDonald was basically a stranger, and no one could find Peter Pettigrew. Years after, Madame Pomfrey heard about Remus teaching DADA she was ecstatic. Her favorite boy grown to a wonderful man had come back. Their friendship had regrown once again. Remus was back with his 'mother' Pomfrey. During the war when she saw what was like a son to her, she wailed dropping to her knees. She couldn't believe it, she tried to help him, believing he still could be saved. Moddy and Dumbledore had to hold her down; she cried in Minerva's arms as she went to his funeral, no one had seen her cry so much since Sirius or Regulus' deaths. The usual happy Poppy was gone for a few months, stuck in her room sobbing. Minerva had noticed a little part of her sunshine smile was gone every time Poppy saw something that reminded her about her lost son Remus Lupin.

Apple of my pie (2) — Jin
A Small Town Swoons story
Chapter 2.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kim Seokjin x reader (nicknamed Buttercup)
Wordcount: 3.0k
Genre: non-idol!AU, Baker/Café owner!Seokjin, University student!reader Flatmates!AU, Friends To Lovers, Fluff, slightest angst
Rating: suggested 18+ (there are brief apparitions of dirty thoughts, also future episodes will contain NSFW material);
A/N: Hello my sweet poppies! Welcome to the Small Town Swoon Universe! 🥰✨
In this episode: Jin goes on his first date with Grace, who is actually a sweet person. However, during the date, he casually meets a friend who is more than capable of making him open his eyes. Meanwhile, Buttercup remembers exactly why they’re friends. The following day, the young woman faces a challenging conversation with her classmate and friend, Lara — who is also Jin’s assistant at the bakery.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Sweet date; some angst between friends (Yoongi, the psychiatrist who always cuts too deep when he speaks his mind). Meet Yoongi and his sweet and horny girlfriend, Spice. Lots of swearing, especially from Lara and Buttercup towards the end. Dirty thoughts, mentions of wet dreams, playful bickering and name calling between Buttercup and Lara. There are a couple very painful references to Severus Snape and Lily Potter (lowkey Harry Potter spoilers, just in case).
Remember to vote for next prompt (check the link in my bio) and in case you need it, here’s my masterlist 💜
In case you need it, here is the music companion (Spotify only, sorry 😔)
Enjoy! ✨💜
Navi: Chapter 1 — Chapter 2 — Chapter 3 — Chapter 4 — Chapter 5 — Chapter 6 — Chapter 7 (7/7)
Tumblr media
Sitting at the pizza shack near the university campus, Seokjin realised that Grace wasn’t a plain human being.
She was actually cute and funny. He could see himself with someone like this.
Someone who didn’t make him feel dull and a bit of an understudy.
Grace liked puppies. She was at her last year of vet school, she was interning at the local animal clinic and she had spent all day visiting pregnant cows. She hoped she could assist to at least one birth, even though the first expected date of delivery was a couple days after her internship formally ended.
Jin grinned as he listened, genuinely warmed by her caring ways and her childlike laugh. Her name really did fit her. She had a gap between her front teeth and a very sweet dimple that made him grin each time it appeared. Small, a little soft in all the best ways — and best places, he had unwillingly noted — and terribly endearing.
The date wasn’t bad. At all.
And it was way more than decent. Almost too good for being a first date.
No misunderstandings, no embarrassment, no shyness whatsoever. The pizza was good — not as good as his, but it was an eight out of ten, solid — there had been no accidents of choking on drinks or on food, no talking while having mouths full, no uncomfortable flutters in his heart as he looked at her. It was warm. It all felt warm.
However, the more time went by, the more he realised that a few things were missing,
Like you, humming at how good the food was, making jokes about unsuspecting patrons sitting around you, people watching, building impossible scenarios and stories about specific clients, basing yourself on stolen snippets of their conversations.
The strident chord was the sudden appearance of a familiar face. Actually two of them, one slightly less familiar than the other.
“Seokjin?” The very familiar face called.
He turned. “Hello Yoongi!” He greeted with a smile and a small wave. “Hello Spice!” He said, turning to the woman at his side, his hand laced with hers.
“Where’s Buttercup?” Yoongi asked, before he turned and spotted a woman sitting before his friend.
That was not you. Yoongi turned to Seokjin and eyed him suspiciously, making sure that Jin’s table companion didn’t notice.
“Guys, this is Grace.” He introduced the girl.
Spice looked at Yoongi with a meaningful look before turning to the young woman.
“Nice to meet you, Grace.” She said warmly.
Grace blushed. “Nice to meet you too, guys,” she replied with a soft smile.
“We’ll leave you to your night, he seems to be enjoying your company, Grace.” Yoongi said politely, before turning to Seokjin. “I’ll talk to you soon.”
Seokjin’s ears blushed. He felt ashamed, “Sure. Have a good evening,” he said, bidding his friends goodbye.
“To you too,” Spice said it’s a tight smile.
The two left, moving like one, perfect as always.
Seokjin knew how that felt. That’s how he always moved with you.
“They seem good people.” Grace noted, genuinely kind, as she had been all dinner long.
“They are.” Seokjin agreed. “And they’re smart too.” He said, beginning to worry for himself.
Tumblr media
You weren’t in the living room when Seokjin arrived at the apartment. He was glad. He was glad he could have a few minutes to rethink about how Grace had stretched to her tiptoes with her hands laced behind her back and had placed a playful peck on his cheek before wishing him goodnight and dashing upstairs.
He was glad he wouldn’t need to confront you. And from the sounds coming from your bedroom, you were very likely watching one of those dramas and films you loved so much. Once more, he was glad.
However, that small peace lasted little.
His phone buzzed in his pocket. He exhaled and picked it up.
Is Pollyanna still around?
Yoongi wrote. Seokjin shook his head in hopelessness.
I’ve just arrived home.
Yoongi called immediately. Seokjin hid into his room. “So you decided to follow Namjoon’s way?”
“I have to save myself. I can’t stand there forever, hoping for her to notice. Or to care.”
“You decided to follow the advice of a miserable man abandoned by the highschool sweetheart rather than that of other four sane men who told you to talk to her?” Yoongi said, raising his voice.
“You never said your opinion.” Seokjin noted.
“You don’t need my opinion. You didn’t care about anyone’s opinion. You had already made up your mind even before the discourse started.”
Seokjin exhaled, exasperated.
“Can’t you just say it?”
“What?” Yoongi snorted. Hearing his frustration, Spice rubbed his back trying to calm him down. He nuzzled into her warmth.
“Just say what you think for once in your life.”
Spice frowned at Seokjin’s voice blasting from Yoongi’s phone. He patted her head.
Yoongi huffed. “Fine. I think Buttercup deserves to know and choose for herself. I think she does care, no matter what you think. Also, all that self convincing you’re trying to do is just you trying to keep yourself from losing something that makes you feel comfortable. Because after all you’re comfortable, aren’t you? You just drown yourself in her so much that you don’t even have to face yourself and what you want. And we both know Pollyanna is not what you want.”
Seokjin frowned and pouted. He already knew he was being childish.
“This silence is precisely why I don’t state my opinion.” Yoongi said, speaking softly when he noticed Spice had closed his eyes beside him, on the pillow next to his. He smiled and looked at how beautiful she is. He cupped her cheek, brushing her hair off her face.
“Yoongi. I can’t go on like this forever.” Seokjin said, his voice hopeless and tired.
“I know. All I’m saying is… you should tell Buttercup first.” Yoongi replied, his voice more comprehensive and gentle.
“I am such a coward.” Jin whispered, sitting on the bed, combing his hair with his free hand.
“Listen. I know Buttercup is to you what Spice is to me. I know it.” Yoongi said, his girlfriend scooting closer to him and pressing her face to his chest. “I know I would give her anything she asks and do anything to stay as close as she allows me.” He petted her hair while her warm fingertips danced on his spine.
Seokjin shut his eyes tight. “I’m just trying to get as much as I can before they take her from me.”
“No one will ever break your bond except your lack of communication. Someday a brilliant, smart man will come along and realise how damn precious she is and snatch her for himself. All you’ll have left will be possibilities and smoky dreams.” Yoongi took a pause. “You guys are amazing. You are borderline disgusting with the amount of private stuff you know about each other. Tell her.” Yoongi said, smiling and closing his eyes once Spice’s lips tickled his throat.
“I’ll try.” Seokjin replied. “Goodnight doctor.”
“Goodnight, lover boy. Try not to have wet dreams of your flatmate.”
“Don’t you have better things to do? I bet your girlfriend keeps a list.” Jin said, biting back.
Spice’s voice rose in the background. “Jin is almost right. However, why be doing things when you could be doing me?”
Jin blushed and snickered. “Goodnight, lover boy.” He quipped before shutting the call.
Yoongi placed down his phone, then shook his head and chuckled. “Doing you, uh?”
Spice licked her lips and closed the light before she bent to his neck. “You’d better provide, Min.” She warned before he pounced on her with an ecstatic grin.
Tumblr media
Seokjin went to grab a glass of water sometime around one a.m., quite unusually. His routine is basic: he falls asleep at ten thirty and wakes up at four thirty, showers, dresses and runs to the shop. He starts the ovens and by six fifteen the first morning batch is ready.
But that night for some reason, he woke up. He stood up. He reached the kitchen.
Maybe it was because his sleep had been fitful. Maybe because all he had been thinking about was you. You and how it would have been like to be on a date with you, what you were like on a date, if you would have kissed him goodbye on his cheek, if you would have invited him up, had you been in Grace’s shoes, hadn’t the two of you been flatmates.
First he noticed that the fridge was open. Next he noticed you, in thick flannel pjs and a tank top. You were sniffling and drying your eyes, filling your mouth with the leftovers from breakfast.
“What happened?” He asked, spying on you.
You stood up straight, his face appearing in the dim, yellow glow of the fridge.
“His patronus was a doe.” You said, your lip wobbly, cheeks still wet with tears, filling your mouth with chocolate pudding.
He rose from his position slowly, raising his head from his arms, once crossed on top of the fridge door.
Why are his shoulders are always so damn big? What’s the use of all of that… wingspan — ? — when your kitchen is so tiny? And when he needs to move in the narrow lanes of the bakery? What is he so big for?
As you watched him turn on his side, trying no to hit the fridge or the counter as he stood behind you and hugged you close.
“After all that time.” You murmured.
Seokjin held you closer as you turned around. That’s why he was so big. All those good bear hugs.
“I know.” He replied, one arm snaked around your waist, the other wrapped around your shoulders and head while his hand patted your head. “I know,” he repeated as you hiccuped and sobbed. Of course he knew. He had been stuck there himself. Loving someone after all that time. Always.

“Who pissed in your latte?” Lara asked the following day after your nine a.m. bibliology lesson. “You look awful.”
“Thank you Lara.” You said, pushing your stuff into your bag. “Jin went on a date last night.”
Lara frowned, “What do you mean?”
“On a date. Pizza. With a girl.”
She laughed. “You’re joking, right?”
“I’m serious.” You said, placing your bag on your shoulder and wrapping your scarf around your neck.
“Listen. You’ve been friends for years. Honestly, it was a matter of time before it happened.”
“He’s never had a girl, a boy, a… partner. In four years.” You said as you and Lara walked out of the room, stopping by the closest heater in the main corridor.
“Do you think he would be your loyal servant forever? Your knight in shining armour?” Lara took a small bag of caramelised almonds: she had negotiated that she would work for Seokjin for a monthly pay and a weekly amount of his grandmother’s almonds covered by raw crystallised sugar.
“I am not opposed to it, it’s just… I’m uncomfortable, okay? What if he moves out and leaves me paying full rent. I can’t do that!” You stated weakly with strong disappointment.
“He’s just dating the chick, not marrying her!” Lara replied, throwing another almond in her mouth.
The mere idea of him getting married made you even more petty. “I don’t want her to barge in and change our friendship.”
“Friendship...” Lara scoffed. “You weren’t screaming friendship at my birthday.”
“I was having a nightmare!” You snarled playfully.
“You were having a wet dream. How long has it been since you’ve—”
You pressed your hand to her mouth. “Shut the fuck up. Not talking about that.”
Lara licked your hand, making you yuck and pull it away, cleaning it against her jacket. “We should talk about that, though. Think about it, Buttercup; he’s not gonna be single forever and you definitely have a bone to pick with that Grace girl.”
“She can have him like… on weekdays.” You said, trying to be reasonable. “Except on free mornings. We have breakfast together on free mornings.”
Lara shook her head. “Don’t wanna burst your bubble, but you do realise that soon he’ll be out on dates on Saturday night and staying out until Sunday morning?”
You frowned, pouting. You opened your mouth, trying to object.
Lara snickered proudly. You couldn’t let her have that.
“Well, at least I’ll be able to get laid with him out of the house.”
“Don’t worry. He’ll be getting laid too, fucking finally. He needs it and deserves it.” Lara muttered as she thought about all those years he had spent looking at you with heart eyes. “And remember that Grace will be getting Saturday dinner. Filet mignon. All that meat...” Lara commented.
“The meat...” You said, dreamily. Juicy steaks and roasted chicken and ribs and… Meat.
Your brain short-circuited. He was tall. Handsome. Well-built. And you sort of knew he’s large. For fuck’s sake, that was your best friend you were talking about! Why would you suddenly think about his junk?
You shook your head.
Still, Lara went on, grinning as she saw you falter. “Grace will get all of that. Saturday evening. Sunday morning. Breakfast in bed. Milkshakes. Homemade gelato. Apple pies. Picnics with his granny. Trips to the lake. His granny’s roast-beef—”
“Don’t touch the roast-beef, bitch!” You hissed, pointing a finger against her chest. “Grace won’t have my roast-beef, my homemade gelato, my Sunday breakfast in bed, she won’t have my apple pies, my coffees, my picnics with granny and my Saturday dinners. And no, she will not have the meat either!” You snarled.
Lara cackled. “Nice. Then you should make a plan. ‘Cause I think she wants to take it all. Now that you’re having this sudden mystical revelation, can you also vaguely perceive that you are in L-O-V-E with your flatmate and he’s been pining for you for years and he’d love it if you accidentally fell tits-first on his cock, you big fucking dumb idiot?” Lara said, completely exasperated while a posh, preppy girl gave her the side eye, tutting in disappointment.
“Stop talking about love and all that jazz. We’re platonic. We’re fine. We’re great and we’ll always be, forever.” You said shrugging. “We’ve been friends for years. He’s had plenty of time to make a move, if he were interested.”
“He blushes when old ladies call him charming! God, you’re big dumb!” Lara said, kicking her foot against your toes.
“What?”
“He’s shy! You want him! You’re attracted to him!!! You were literally sobbing his name!” Lara punched your shoulder
You shook your head, making to walk away. “Night-fucking-mere!” You objected violently.
“Li-fucking-ar!” She mirrored as she tugged at your arm and followed you.
Yes. After all, you were a liar. And well, first and foremost, you liked lying to yourself.
“He’s my best friend. I am not attracted to him. And I know I’ll never be.”

~~~ * ~~~ * ~~~ * ~~~ * ~~~
Severus was out of the cabin, walking Jiggy in his white shirt and thinking through a great many things. First, he needed to tell her everything about himself. He couldn’t bare losing her, but he couldn’t take the guilt of knowing he was keeping everything from her.
She had been asking him questions about his life and he had told her basically nothing because he had been dancing around the fact he served a vile and hideous master for years and on two occasions, and that he had been working at Hogwarts for all of his adult life and technically murdered his employer.
By some miracle the more she has gotten to know him the more in love she has fallen, which was perfect considering he was as much in love with her. Too much actually. His heart ached for her and the guilt made it so much worse.
Second… He was growing sadder at the realization he had lost all his friends… well colleagues are what he would have called them then, but now he sees they were indeed his friends. He missed talking to Minerva every morning before breakfast, drinking coffee and complaining mostly.
He missed hearing the baffling stories Poppy would tell him every month about what annoying injuries students were coming to her with. Pomona was the only one who knew all the gossip and rumors going around school and Hagrid always offered to have him over for tea, though he refused every time.
If Hogwarts hadn’t been invaded, attacked, and burned, students would be packing their things and getting ready to get on the Hogwarts Express back to London by now. He sighed and shook his head, forcing all his memories out of his head. They were useless now.
Jiggy came running up to him indicating it was time to head inside for breakfast.
“How was the walk?” she hugged him tight, waiting for an answer.
He gave a weak smile and nodded, “As expected.”
The kitchen now looked like one that was in constant use. She had given him many of her pans and pots, ladles and spoons, jars and bottles which now filled the cabinets and counter. The table had placemats and a nice center candle that matched the color of the cushions on the chairs.
She had brought over her plants and flowers to fill the living room with life – though she claimed it was so she wouldn’t worry about watering them. There was also a rug and another reading chair in the living room with small bookshelves behind it. This was now a room where they both enjoyed sitting and reading together instead of an awkward empty place for Jiggy to lick his privates in.
They finished their breakfast and Severus headed upstairs to finish thinking through his decision. He came back down and cleared his throat. She looked up from Love Me Roughly – she had started reading it now after him – and closed it.
“Yes?”
Severus crossed the room and sat in his chair next to hers and closed his eyes shut, “I need to tell you about my life.”
He heard her shift in her seat, “I’m all ears.”
“No, you don’t understand… It’ll change the way you view me,” he sighed heavily and paused for a minute to center himself, “I need to tell you because there are things I’m feeling for you and I can’t allow this to go on without knowing that you understand exactly who I am.”
“Severus, I know who you are. I may not know your past but it’s not like you’re pretending to be someone you’re not…”
Severus nodded, “But there are some things I’ve done that you might not forgive me for…” He opened his eyes and turned to her. “If you’re going to hate me I’d rather it happened now than – ” his words caught on his throat and he swallowed his emotions down, “So let me explain myself.”
He stood up and placed his hands behind his back. He started pacing and began the story of his years after losing his best friend, joining the Death Eaters, and handing the Dark Lord the prophecy that would ruin his life and the lives of others.
He watched her eyes carefully, going from amusement to shock to anger, tears rolling down her cheeks, but she said nothing and made no motion to leave. He felt her hatred for him as he went on about finding out his oldest and only true friend he ever had was being targeted, and about how it was his fault she died.
He held back tears and kept his emotions in check as he went on about caring for the boy of his childhood bully, about being sent back to serve his old Master, and about murdering the only person who knew who he really was, good or bad.
She sat back in her chair, crossing her arms and wiping away tears as he spoke. He couldn’t bare to look at her as he continued with all he had to do among the Death Eaters, even sitting there to watch as a colleague died before his eyes.
He sat back down on his chair and wiped a single tear as he explained his appointment as Headmaster and all that went on at Hogwarts, and the battle between Minerva and himself before he ran from the castle. He ended the story by recounting the events of the battle at Hogwarts and how he was attacked by the Dark Lord’s snake and how after curing himself and realizing it was all over, he had ran away and left the world behind.
“By now I’m sure they suspect I am alive or that one of the Death Eaters took my dead body. Though I don’t think anyone cares and would prefer it if I were dead,” Severus finally looked over at her.
She was wiping her tears and sniffling but did not meet his eyes, instead focusing on the book she held in her hands. She nodded and he took that as a que to leave the room to let her process all he had said. He headed upstairs and lay in bed where he let all his feelings come forward. He wept silently until his eyelids became too heavy to keep open.
. . .
Severus opened his eyes and squinted, unable to see in the darkness. He sat up and felt a hand slide down his chest and onto the bed. She had crawled into bed at some point and wrapped her arms over him. He turned and swept hair from her face.
Her eyes fluttered open and she sat up as well, “Severus… I’m sorry you went through all that.”
She pulled him into her and held him tight, stroking his hair and hugging him as close to herself as possible. He started sobbing quietly, relieved that she was still treating him with love and care. He was sure that when he woke, she would be gone for good out of his life.
“They’ll never forgive me for what I’ve done,” he choked, “I’ll be hated ‘till the day I die.”
She pressed her lips to the top of his head and sniffed, “You can explain everything to them as you did me – ”
“And risk them hating me even more for not staying dead? No. Never,” he pushed away from her, “(Y/n)… You don’t understand. They will NEVER accept me back. When I-I started teaching there, I was so young and they forgave my mistake. Minerva took a while to come around but they accepted I had changed and learned from it… How could they possibly excuse my actions as an adult?” He started sobbing into his hands and was pulled back into her arms.
“You said he forced you, commanded you, to do all those things. They knew you were a spy – you can tell her – ”
“My only proof was murdered by my hand and they’ll accuse me of falsifying my memories…”
“What about the boy? Ha – ”
“Don’t. Speak his name.” Severus didn’t want to be reminded of him. He didn’t want to be reminded about anything to do with him. He knew he could never apologize for the things he had done, to his mother, to him… The boy knew everything now and all he could hope was for him to understand why things had happened the way they did… and how very sorry he was.
“I’m sorry, Severus… The reason I was in London was because of the battle. I was taking care of my nephew while his mother did her Auror duties for the Ministry… Not at the school but I still heard about how awful it had all been… I’m so sorry. So, so sorry.”
After several more minutes of crying, Severus was helped to his feet and out of his day clothes. She pulled his nightshirt down as he dropped his head on her shoulders and hugged her tight, unable to focus on anything. She pushed him into the bed and hugged him tight for hours until he fell asleep once more.
. . .
After hours of sleeping Severus was able to push everything back once more, using the rhythm of the warm water in the shower and the soft humming he heard coming from downstairs. He dressed and headed down, expecting a small breakfast but instead receiving what looked like a feast.
There were plates of bacon, sausages, eggs, pancakes, and waffles. There was a glass pitcher of orange juice and one of milk out on the table. He sat down and laughed.
“You realize I barely eat what you serve me normally, right?”
She laughed, “What you don’t eat put in the fridge because I won’t be here for three days, I’ve been called in to relocate another Wizard at five today,” she sat down and started filling her plate.
He arched an eye, “For a second I thought you had quit… You haven’t done that since… well me.”
She smiled and nodded, “Well I’ve been turning them down but I know this one will be a big commission so I feel I must take it.”
“Was it written in your tea yesterday?” he smirked, knowing she hated how he teased her about being a seer.
“As a matter of fact,” she took the last waffle from under his fork, “It was.”
He reached for the last sausage quickly and poured out juice, “Are you taking Jiggy?”
She hid her face behind her hands.
Severus put down his fork and sighed, “Must he always jump on my legs with dirty paws? How can I walk him when he finds me more interesting than the bushes and trees outside?”
“It’s only for three days, and if you put the leash on he can go by himself. He hates it and comes right back demanding for it to be taken off, happy?”
“Well I’m not pleased.” Severus took the empty plates and charmed them into washing themselves. “I need to get started on some potions anyways, so I suppose it’s best. They’re rather fowl smelling.”
“Please keep the windows open then,” she headed upstairs and left him to clean up the rest of the things.
Severus smiled. He was glad to have gotten everything off his chest yesterday. Nothing could possibly upset him after learning that such a unique and amazing woman could look passed all his flaws and accept it all willingly.
He wiped powder off the counter and placed everything in a jar and in the fridge for breakfast the next day. He cleared the table of the candle and pulled the chairs up against the back wall readying the space for his potion. He set out his jars and cauldron on the table and personally washed his stirring rod, making sure not a single smudge of anything was left on.
She came back downstairs with packed luggage, “I’m heading out now. My portkey leaves at four, but I need to go over some things at the office.”
Severus kissed her goodbye and stood back as she apparated out of his house. In the back of his head he heard a voice tell him she’d just left and would never be back, but the loud bark of her dog told him otherwise.
He chuckled, wondering if that was why she had left him. To keep him company and to assure him of her return.
So I’ve got a note in my notes app called “Fanfic lines that should be in a hall of fame” and it’s gotten pretty long so I figure I’ll toss it on here so yall can enjoy it, most of them are: mha, zukka, miraculous ladybug, harry potter, and I think one is from a comment on a hannibal amv, But here you go:
Stain sold papers because he just had an aura about him that drew people in, like people who slow down to look at car crashes.
“The Rumor Come Out: Does Todoroki Shoto is Gay?”
Izuku spent the next week going to his normal martial arts classes, studying, and drinking gallons of coffee. Not healthy but he could deal with it. His body was never meant to be permanent.
So no one was watching when Mei placed her forehead against his, breath fanning across his face as she spoke. "Wake up Loki… the world needs you."
“No probs ‘lil listener!” Hizashi said, striking a dramatic pose. “I’ll be your DJ all through the night, bringin’ you such rockin’ hits as safety, security and sweet dreams!”
“This is stupid! Screw the waiting and screw these stupid butterflies. They're not paying rent, the little shits--”
Experimenting with unstable genetic mutant abominations is more of an art than a science, really."
Several looks pass across both their faces. “No flying for a month,” Sirius declares. That sucks, actually. But he’s also a hundred percent certain he can get them to cave on that in two weeks tops. “Okay. Is that for the breaking into the Ministry, destroying the Department of Mysteries, making a bargain with Voldemort, or bringing all my friends with me?” “It’s for recklessly endangering your own life again,” Remus says, “and while the punishment very much doesn’t fit the crime, we’re a bit at a loss for what else to do.” “It wasn’t reckless!” he protests. “We had a plan and everything, and we even brought an adult! An adult Order member! Also what else were we supposed to do, let Snape die?” Sirius takes a deep breath, but Remus steps on his foot before he can put it in his mouth. “Which is why you’re only getting flying privileges taken away and not thrown in a cell in Azkaban for our sanity and your safety.” As if any cell could hold him. “I accept your terms.”
“Who’s Theophania?” Sirius asks. Harry hesitates. Perhaps bringing her up was his smartest decision, strategically speaking. “If I tell you you’re not allowed to throw me in Azkaban. Or ground me.” “This isn’t a negotiation,” Sirius repeats. If Blaise has taught him anything, it’s that everything is a negotiation. “She’s a friend.” “And?” Sirius repeats. Remus suddenly grabs onto Sirius’s shoulder, “Wait. Petrifying - during your second year - is Theophania - she’s not the basilisk.” “No, they killed it,” Sirius says automatically. Harry remains silent. “Harry!” He rubs his nose. “It turns out I’m not that good at killing things. Unkilling things, however? My specialty.”
“It’s okay,” Nanaia says, “you don’t know. What do you do when you don’t know something?” “Try something you do know and hope it doesn’t make everything worse?” For some reason, Horace looks sad at that answer, and Dumbledore shifts from one foot to the other. “No,” she says, “you ask for help.” Oh.
“It’ll piss off your son,” he answers bluntly. “Fuck that kid,” Riddle Sr. says
“You played me!” “Like a cheap kazoo”
Batman sighed, before speaking in a voice that was so unlike his usual growl that most of the other League members almost fell out of their chairs. Diana and Clark seemed to be used to it. “Damian,” he started. His voice was still deep, but a regular-deep, instead of I-just-swallowed-six-buckets-of-gravel deep.
“She loved James too,” she assures, and the confidence she says that with allows him to breathe, like someone has let go of his lungs. “It is possible to love more than one person at the same time. She loved your father with the type of love that’s – that was like a shooting star, burning and bright and touching everyone around them. Her love for Severus was different, and in the end it wasn’t the type of love either of them could handle.”
You’re better at it now then many people are after leaving a full apprenticeship, and you’ve only had a year of lessons a couple of times a week instead of years of intensive study. Do you know why that is?” “Luck?” he offers weakly. For some reason, he doesn’t like the direction this is going in. “No,” she says. “To be good at healing, the way you are, the way I am, you need a certain combination of things. Intelligence, power, control, but more than that. Stubbornness, a tricky balance of flexibility and inflexibility, and a constant, brutal assessment over your own skills. And something else.” “A propensity towards poor life choices?” he suggests. Poppy shakes her head, not taking the bait. “No. You have to care. You have to care about everyone, even people you dislike, and you have to care so much that if feels like it’s killing you, you have to care and that care has to hurt, until the only thing that hurts worse than caring is not caring. To be good at this, you have to let it hurt you.”
“You two shouldn’t have bothered dressing formally for Albus, he’s a bitch.” Harry doesn’t have any idea what’s going on, but he’s loving it.
“It was on the syllabus,” Zuko whispered conspiratorially to his mother. Sokka gasped. “You know I don’t read those!” “This is your own fault then.” “I like to be surprised. The procrastination keeps me humble.”
sometimes you remind me of the stars youre gorgeous and happy and can always brighten me on the darkest days and even when youre dampened you can guide me home
“imagine you are the only person who loves to play chess more than anything but nobody else in the world has ever heard about chess. and then you see a person holding a chessboard. it’s like your whole world was reborn”
"I wanted to be a stripper in middle school," Izuku said. Yup, that's a good cover.
What you’re asking for isn’t fair or right. You can’t ask a person for more than they’re willing to give
In Mei’s words, “You have about five minutes of ‘fuck that one thing in particular.’ Make them count.”
“Mei, let me introduce your new best friend. This is Momo. She has a Quirk that lets her make anything as long as she knows its composition inside and out. All you have to do is buy her dinner,“ Izuku said,
The cameras were looped. The bots were hacked. It was a good day to be a villain.
“None. The alarm never left the building.” “Really? Why is that?” “Mei finished first and decided to do you a favor. However, you've got the fire alarm just starting to go off and that's on a different circuit. Take a fast way down.” “Understood,” Hitoshi drawled. A moment later he was looking back at the crew. “Ladies and Frenchman. We take the express.”
Quinn is talking like that actually answers his question when it really, really doesn’t. “If you don’t start making sense, I’ll cry.”
“You’re one of my best students,” ze says. “You should understand the importance of timing. Speaking of, you’re late for your next class.”
Fuck, he totally is. “Thank you for that very confusing answer. I’ll think of you while crying myself to sleep.”
He’d wondered if that was what bravery was, to be quiet even when you were hurting so much you wanted to scream.
maybe bravery was also running screaming at the thing that nearly killed you, to keep it from killing someone else.
“Apologies are not difficult. Good apologies revolve around three basic points. One, I acknowledge what I did was wrong. Two, I regret that you were harmed. Three, this is how I plan to make sure it does not happen again. That’s all. Apologies are easy.” Then she’d glanced at them all again, evaluating. “And if you become very, very good at your job... they will be the absolute hardest thing you ever do.”
“Even though we’re a bunch of migraine-inducing hellions who are smart enough to know when something is a bad idea and stupid enough to still do it?”
“You’re like the nice china that Al only brings out for Christmas. Except Bruce just realised that I stole it, and chipped it. Maybe it’s time I give it back before I shatter all the pieces.”
she won’t co-parent my perfectly reasonable and well-behaved children.” Clark snorts. “Damian’s trying to stab Tim, right now.”
"Oh, my knight in shining armour. What would I do without you?" the teen droned, placing a dramatic hand on her head.
"I think you mean 'knight in shining leather', M'Lady. And without me, you would be left alone in this kingdom of lies.”
"It's a kingdom, alright. It'll topple sooner or later." "That's the spirit!" Adrien laughed.
Here’s something that a harbinger of tragedy would never find the courage to admit: there are moments in between the bitter self-hatred and the visceral, tangible consequences of your sins in which you almost think you’re worthy of forgiveness; of second chances; of a life beyond your greatest regrets. It’s a unique brand of pain,
“Go directly to horny jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.”
“You can’t wait around for him to be sorry,” Izuku says. He’s quiet now. This isn’t something that’s meant to be shouted. “Maybe he’ll never be sorry. Maybe he doesn’t know he did anything wrong, or he doesn’t care. It doesn’t matter.” Cautiously he takes a step forward. “You can’t depend on the people who hurt you to be the ones to make it better, or it’s never going to get better. They’ll only disappoint you, or hurt you even worse, and then they’ll be gone and you’ll be waiting forever.”
Midoriya may be strong as hell, but that just means looking out for him has to be a team effort.
How would his new adoring fans react if they knew he raised a villain? He's no All-Might. His pillar's made of toothpicks, and it's not gonna take much to crack it.”
Tensei approaches Rei, “Okay, this plan is childish, unprofessional, and a discourtesy to this school's reputation. That being said, when do we nail the little twat?
To Have a Home Part 28
A/N: Hey Y’all! Here’s part twenty-eight to “To Have a Home!” Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! As always, I hope you enjoy, and stay safe!
Summary: After Draco is found guilty of an attempted murder, he is  sentenced to the Lupin’s house with hopes he’ll finally understand what  it means to have a family. Only problem? Draco doesn’t want it.
Or... Remus decides what he needs to do to help Abigail.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remus stepped out of the bathroom, hair damp from the shower he just had. Isla sat next to Abigail, the back of her palm resting cautiously on her forehead.
“How is she?” He asked, sitting down where he had been for hours. He reached for Abigail’s hand, holding it loosely in his.
“You know she’s not good, Remus. Not even Poppy could tell what was wrong. It’s going to… Oh, Remus…”
The tears that had refused to come all day finally emerged. He could feel them trailing down his face, but he made no attempt to wipe them away.
“I can’t lose her, Isla. Not like this. Not after everything. I can’t lose her. I can’t…”
“No one is losing anybody, okay?” Sirius said, grabbing his friend’s shoulders. “We’ll find out what’s wrong, and we’ll fix it. And Abigail is one of the strongest people I know. If anyone can survive this, she can.”
Remus shook his head. “I know, but I can’t just sit here and do nothing. There’s got to be something I can do. Anything.”
“How about you get some sleep, okay?” Isla opened the door to the living room. “We can bring a blanket out there for you, and we’ll think about this in the morning?”
“But that could be too late, Isla. I need to do something now.” He started to pace the room, his eyes never leaving Abigail.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I agree with Isla.” Sirius tried to get the attention of his friend. “You’ve had a long day, Remus, and you need sleep. Just close your eyes for a few hours, and we’ll figure this out then.”
“Snape could know something about this, right?” Remus shrugged Sirius off him. “He’s always had a thing for ancient dark arts, and he’s one of the only people better at potions than Abigail. He’s got to know what’s happening.”
Isla shook her head. “Remus, I don’t know if that’s the best thing to do. It’s Snape.”
“But that’s his sister!”
“But that doesn’t matter. He’s an asshole, Remus; out of all people, you should know this. Who was the one who fought tooth and nail to keep you away from Abigail?”
“He was.” Sirius piped up and Isla nodded along.
“Right. Do you really think that he would help you?”
“I have to try!” Remus yelled, pointing to Abigail. “I am going to do everything that I can to save her, Isla. I love her!”
Isla pinched her brows together in an attempt to calm her own nerves. “So no matter what Sirius and I say, you’re not going to even lie down for a few minutes?” Remus shook his head, and she sighed.
“Sirius, can you floo powder McGonagall? Tell her it’s an emergency.”
*
The journey to Hogwarts was dark and long. There were three people accompanying Remus to his destination, not just one. It was the only way that Isla and Sirius would let him come. He met McGonagall at the doors, where she quickly led Remus to the dungeons. Flitwick stood guard, and when Remus passed, the professor merely nodded in his general direction.
“He’s been yelling and screaming since Abigail left him early this afternoon, going on about how she is in terrible danger. He finally quieted down a few hours ago, so he might be asleep, but we’re not sure. Remus,” she quickly turned to him, “are you sure you want to do this?”
Remus nodded, so McGonagall left him there, saying something about being close by as she wandered off.
Remus gave himself thirty seconds to collect himself before opening the door to the cell.
It was dark in the room, but he could easily make out the shape of Snape laying on the disgusting cot with his back towards the door. He perked up when he heard the door open, turning around almost immediately, but when he saw that it was Remus, the light in his eyes suddenly disappeared.
“What happened to Abby?”
Remus didn’t say anything.
“Oh… Oh God. Abby.” He took a step forward, but Remus pulled his wand, leaving the tip of it pressed into Severus’s clavicle.
“Take one step closer and I swear to God I will end your life, right here and now.”
“Do it then; end me! It would be better than rotting in this place. Forever reminded of what I’ve done. Forever haunted by my past.”
Remus struggled for a moment, wand shaking in his hands, but he lowered it to the ground, his eyes following. Severus scoffed, retreating wearily to his cot.
“I knew you didn’t have it in you. A werewolf would never dream of killing a wizard. It’s too far above you, isn’t it? You would never get away with it…”
“I know what you’re trying to do, Snape, and it’s not going to work.”
“Alright then, wolf boy, what am I trying to do, hmm?”
Remus stood in silence for a moment, gathering his thoughts.
“You’re--You’re scared, Snape. And you’re desperately grasping for a power that is far out of your reach. You don’t know what’s wrong with Abigail. You can’t leave this room, though you know there’s something horribly wrong going on out there. Now you’re toying with me to see if I’ll let something slip. Isn’t that right?”
Now it was Severus’s turn to be silent. He studied the cot he sat on for a long time, tracing some of the lines on the beat mattress. If Remus squinted hard enough, he swore he could see something wet underneath Severus’s eyes. Like he was crying.
“What did he do to her, Remus?”
Remus could barely hear him over the sound of his own pounding heart. Never once in his life did he ever hear Severus sound so… afraid. Snape always walked around like he owned everything. He always thought he was on top of the world, yet now it was just a husk of what was. His hair hung in front of his face, damp from the tears. His shirt hung off his shoulders, revealing years of scars and damage. His boney arms looked like they could barely hold him up. Remus just shook his head.
“We… We don’t know. Poppy’s looked at her. I’ve looked at her. We just don’t know.”
Severus’s hands furled and unfurled, angry at both himself and Voldemort.
“Please,” It was Remus’s turn to come to him, “Help us find something to heal her. I don’t even know where to start. And I can’t just watch her as she withers away. I love her, Snape, and I know you do too. She’s all we have.”
“I know, Remus.” Snape used the ratty, old shirt sleeve to wipe his face clean. “I may have a few ideas as to what happened, and what potions might work, but Remus…” He reached for the other man’s arm, but he jerked away at the last moment.
“...Will I be able to see my niece or nephew?” His voice was pleading, reaching out for Remus, but he backed up further, brushing the door with the back of his hands.
“That’s up to Abigail to decide.”

Potion Fumes and Cauldron Leaks
Chapter 8: A Muggle Milestone With A Magical Twist
(Click here for chapter 7!)
(Click here to start from the beginning!)
Disclaimer: I don’t own the “Harry Potter” book series. The story of “Harry Potter” is the property of J. K. Rowling, it is not my intellectual property. There is no financial gain made from this nor will any be sought. This is for entertainment purposes only.
Over the course of the next week, Severus tried his best to keep his distance from Granger. He completely ignored his apprentice and her tenacious, ever-waving right arm during regular Potions class; and for their Tuesday lesson, he simply sent her to the greenhouses to collect some Mandrake leaves as his supply had run low.
By the time their next lesson rolled around, however, he could no longer avoid the witch. The Hospital Wing was in sudden dire need of Wiggenweld Potion, causing the matron to request such a large quantity of bottles that Snape by no means could have handled it all himself. “I will need to have a word with Poppy after dinner,” the half-blood thought pettishly as he carefully measured out the required amount of salamander blood. “She ought to keep a better eye on her stock and place orders earlier. I simply cannot get any proper work done like this! My research sure is suffering terribly under these ludicrous conditions …” Of course, he would have never admitted that he was mostly trying to dodge long lab hours with the Gryffindor Princess.
On the other side of the classroom, Granger was in the midst of simultaneously stirring three gigantic copper cauldrons with a little help from her wand. She almost seemed to be in a world of her own, with her brows deeply furrowed in concentration. Severus also noticed that the skin of her lips was looking horribly battered. Needless to say, he had observed her nervous lip biting habit years ago; but today, he was purposely trying to keep his eyes away from her and her stupid, all too distracting mouth.
Just as Snape was about to start calculating how much flobberworm mucus would be needed for the potion, the heavy classroom door suddenly swung open. “Severus, my old friend!” the headmaster’s familiar voice resonated from the dungeon walls, causing him to wince. In the name of Merlin, that loony fool was the last thing he needed right now!
Looking up, he saw the infamous grey-bearded wizard strutting towards his desk. If the old man hadn’t been wearing bright green robes with metallic purple embroidery paired with a ridiculous-looking pointy hat, he might even have been a majestic sight to behold. Severus rolled his eyes melodramatically before giving his employer a curt nod of acknowledgement. “Headmaster … What can I do for you?”
Once Dumbledore came to a halt in front of him, Severus could see that strange twinkle in his eyes that he knew all too well. What is this ancient madman up to now? “My boy, I always enjoy getting the chance to converse with you,” he said with glee. “Today, however, I have come to see the lovely Miss Granger. As I can see, the two of you are getting along just great!” Severus thought that he could see his mouth form a slight smirk.
Granger’s head shot up in surprise. “Me?” she asked, a bit flustered. “But why, Professor? Did something happen? Am I needed as Head Girl? Did Harry get hurt during Quidditch practice? Or Ron? Ginny?” One could almost sense her thoughts spinning through the room at lightning speed.
The headmaster smiled softly. “Now, now, Miss Granger, no need to worry! Remember, the dangerous times are over now, aren’t they?” Snape saw her sigh in relief and nod her head, as if to reassure herself. Trying to remove himself from the situation, he walked over to the cauldrons that the young woman had now abandoned and added a handful of lionfish spines to their bubbling content. Dumbledore continued, “In fact, I am here to celebrate a joyous occasion! After all, it has come to my attention that there is a very important day coming up rather soon; and since I unfortunately won’t be on school grounds tomorrow, I thought that I should come and congratulate you today.”
While Granger seemed pleasantly surprised and even blushed a little at these words, Severus was more than confused. “Congratulate?”
“Why, yes, Severus! Don’t tell me you weren’t aware of the fact that it is Miss Granger’s birthday tomorrow?”
The Potions Master curled his lip in annoyance and redirected his attention to the potion before him, which was now in the process of turning bright yellow. “I was not. And quite frankly, I do not see why this should be of any concern or importance to me.”
“But birthdays are always of great importance!” the flamboyant man exclaimed almost dramatically. “Besides, need I remind you that it is tradition for apprentices to receive a present from their tutor on their special day? I’m sure that you must have stumbled across this wonderful practice at some point during your research.”
Come to think of it, he did recall coming across something like that when re-reading Hogwarts: A History following that fateful staff meeting two and a half weeks ago. Severus groaned. He felt like he was being punished for everything he had ever done wrong in life. Not only was he being forced to closely work with the arguably most annoying person he’d ever met, but now he also had to present her with a gift – like he was one of her idiotic little friends! And what should he even give to her? How should he, a 37-year-old man who had never had a proper relationship with a woman in his entire life, know what today’s girls were into? He grimaced at the thought of going down to Hogsmeade and buying heart-shaped candies from Honeydukes or, even worse, standing between the racks in Gladrags Wizardwear and thinking about what piece of clothing would fit the Muggle-born’s well-formed body the best.
Dumbledore for one seemed highly amused by his younger colleague’s reaction. “I’m sure you will be able to find something that is just perfect for our equally as perfect student. Now, Miss Granger, I wish you a very happy birthday, and, of course, I did not come empty-handed either. I think I made a great pick if I dare say so myself!”
He handed her a little pouch similar to the one that Snape had received at the beginning of term, only that this time it was made of neon yellow fabric with little light blue pearls sewn around the hem. The girl cautiously untied it with her delicate hands, revealing a thin golden bracelet with only one small charm dangling from it: a glossy white cowry shell.
“I came across this lovely specimen this summer during a nice, long walk along the French Riviera. If I recall correctly, you used to spend many happy days there with your family before you entered the wizarding world, is that right?”
Her honey brown eyes lit up immediately. “Yes! Oh, thank you so much, Professor! What a thoughtful gift – I will treasure it forever!” The headmaster had a content look on his face as he watched her promptly put on her new piece of jewellery.
“I do not want to ruin this precious moment,” Snape suddenly interjected, sarcasm clearly dripping from his stern voice. “But I do believe that Miss Granger is here to help me brew, not to celebrate a birthday … Especially one that is still hours away at that.”
Alarmed, his apprentice hurried back to tend to the cauldrons, whereas Dumbledore merely chuckled. Making his way to the classroom door, he turned back around one more time.
“Oh, and Severus?” he called out, causing the Potions professor to tear his eyes away from his cutting board and look up. “Thank you so very much for so quickly taking care of this whole Wiggenweld Potion situation. Poppy sure seemed terribly upset with me when I accidentally knocked her entire supply from the shelves in her storage room last night. I did feel awfully bad about it, of course; but what can I say – I guess we all just get a bit clumsier with age!” Severus glowered at the older man as he gave him a mischievous wink before disappearing into the dark dungeons at long last.
The next half hour was fortunately free of any further disruptions. He and Granger were able to finish brewing the potion relatively soon and were now carefully pouring the thick liquid into cylindric-shaped glass bottles. It was then that the Head Girl decided to break the silence.
“You know, Professor, you don’t really need to give me anything. It’s not an important birthday anyways,” she said hoarsely.
Not taking his gaze off his work for even a second, Severus waited awhile before answering. Eventually, he replied, “Miss Granger, believe me when I say that there is nothing I would rather do. However, I am already forced to take part in this imbecile apprenticeship programme as it is. So I might as well participate to the best of my abilities.” After another short pause, he added, “Not that I have much of a choice. I would never hear the end of it if the headmaster found out that I didn’t eagerly play along with his silly antics.”
“Oh, um, well …” Granger stuttered. “I would like to thank you in advance then, sir.”
Ignoring what she’d just said, he continued, “And if there is even such a thing as an important birthday, the eighteenth would surely be one of them. After all, I do believe that it equals coming of age in the Muggle world.”
He could see her frown out of the corner of his eye. “Certainly. But most witches and wizards do not seem to attach value to this. I reckon that the majority of them don’t even know that there is a difference between the wizarding and the Muggle world in this regard.”
Snape snorted. “I do hope that I would be aware of it, having a Muggle father myself!”
He only noticed his mistake when he saw her jaw almost drop to the floor, and then his breathing hitched. He had just shared personal information with a student! Having always been a very private and reserved man, this was something that he’d never ever done before, not even with his favourite Slytherins – and yet he had just now recklessly slipped up in front of one of Potter’s main sidekicks. He cursed under his breath.
“Miss Granger, it looks like there are only a few phials left to fill. I believe that you should go now.”
He could see that it took the teenager a few moments to regain her composure before she finally bobbed her head and started to gather her belongings. Once she had left the classroom, Severus put his head in his hands – he could already feel a migraine coming.
*************** *************** ***************
Hours later, Hermione made her way from the Astronomy Tower back to her private quarters. As soon as she was inside, she dropped her heavy bag onto the floor and let herself fall onto her bed. She was utterly exhausted. It was almost midnight and it had been a very long day. While she had always been a night owl, she certainly needed her sleep during the week.
She remained in this position for a few minutes before she reluctantly sat up and took off her uniform. She stood up, walked over to her closet and pulled out some worn-out pyjamas which she had received as a Christmas gift from Mrs Weasley nearly three years ago. They were terribly ugly, being of a washed-out pink colour and an atrocious floral pattern, but they were comfortable and Hermione loved them to pieces.
After finishing her nightly routine consisting of washing her face, brushing her teeth, packing her bag for the following day and casting a few protective spells – an old, hard-to-kick habit of wartime – the Gryffindor finally slipped into bed. With her eyelids already feeling heavy, she quickly wrapped herself in her fluffy blanket and pulled a happily purring Crookshanks to her chest. She’d never felt this tired before.
Hermione had almost fallen asleep when the feline in her arms suddenly started to squirm, hissing loudly. Confused and a bit drowsy, the girl turned around and noticed one of the school’s owls sitting on her windowsill. Her eyebrows knitted in surprise as she begrudgingly got back up and walked over to it. Who in their right mind would send out something so late? Exchanging the animal’s package for a few tasty bird treats, she closed the window before getting back into bed. As far as she could see, the parcel hadn’t come with any sort of note; and the only thing she uncovered after removing the brown wrapping paper was a rather old-looking book.
“Lumos,” she whispered. With the tip of her wand glowing faintly, she was able to take a better look at the publication in front of her. The title was almost completely faded, but she was still able to decipher it: Long-forgotten Secrets of the Mayan Wizarding Culture – Potions, Spells and More.
Suddenly, the famous young witch was wide-awake and even let out a minor shriek. Unbelievable! In her hands, she was holding one of only twelve known copies of one of the most sought-after literary masterpieces from the early 19th century. It was so rare that some magical scholars would quite literally give an arm and a leg just to catch a short glimpse of it. And now it seemed as though Hogwarts’ on-site know-it-all was in possession of an exemplar – Hermione was in complete shock.
Even more shocking, however, was the fact that she had actually seen this priceless book in person before – hiding in plain sight on one of many shelves in Professor Snape’s sitting room.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Dream Cast Board
Today some of my friends started putting together their dream casts for Cursed Child, and I couldn’t resist joining in, because this is way too much fun.
I feel like a couple of my opinions might be controversial, and that’s actually why I wanted to post this. Everyone in both casts is amazing, and it’s so interesting to find out everyone’s favourites and why! Especially when those favourites are a bit out of the ordinary.
My rules were that I could pick any mix of people from either cast, but no one could play more than one role, however I could pick someone as a cover for a different role (actors listed in brackets are my covers). I also tried to match up people who I thought would work best together, but in at least one case I had to sacrifice chemistry in favour of who I most wanted to play a role.
So without further ado, in order of appearance, here we go!
*
Sorting Hat & Hagrid – Ged Simmons (Chris Jarman)
When Ged plays the Sorting Hat he’s an ethereal being. I love his detachment from everything going on around him. He isn’t part of the scene, because he’s a hat! He’s not an emotional creature, he’s just there to do a job. I also think the way he does the Godric’s Hollow transition with the pumpkins is pure magic. He spreads the snow with this joyous, back and forth motion, and it soars with beauty and enchantment.
I also think his Hagrid is simply wonderful. He broke me last Sunday when he started to leave Lily and James’s ruined house in despair, but on the way out he heard baby Harry crying and the look of hope and wonder on his face was the most incredible thing. Here is a child, who has survived the most powerful curse in the world, and is here against all odds: the boy who lived.
Chris is my cover because he was the first Sorting Hat I saw. I fell in love with his steady, measured movement. It had such a beautiful quality to it, and I don’t think anyone else has ever matched that.
*
Harry Potter – Jamie Parker (Jamie Glover)
Is there any choice for Harry other than Jamie Parker? He lived and breathed Harry. He walked on stage and it was like Harry had walked out of my imagination and onto the stage. The fire in him, and the light, boyish, fun-loving side melded together to create sheer perfection.
Jamie Glover is my second choice because I adore his reading of the script with my whole heart. He takes Harry on such a complete journey, and he made me understand Harry in a way I never had before. You can see how he learns through the story, and the moment in the dorm scene when he understands for the first time what he’s done to his son is heartbreaking, which makes the ultimate reunion all the sweeter. He’s come so far in the last few months and he has so much more still to give, so that’s why he’s my cover Harry.
*
Albus Severus Potter – Theo Ancient (Tom Mackley)
I think Theo is the perfect Albus. I’d been writing Albus for a year before he stepped on stage, and I still get astounded when he does something that matches my concept of Albus so perfectly. The best example of this is in the torture scene, when he walks up to Delphi and presents himself as a target to her when he says “Do your worst”.
He’s an exceptional actor, who is constantly in the moment. On stage he becomes Albus completely, and there’s nothing of Theo left in him. Also, I have a huge desire to see him and Jamie Parker do a blanket scene together – it would either be the most explosive thing ever or it would reduce Theo’s Albus to a puddle of tears. Either way, I’m here for it.
It was tough to choose a cover, but after some deliberation I have gone with Mackley for the unique qualities he brings to Albus. I love his stillness and nobility. I love his humour as well as his serious side, and I’ve adored him with both casts. I think Samuel brings out the best in him, and it’s wonderful to see two people have so much fun on stage together. My Mackley highlight is probably when Samuel made him jump so hard with “Ever since being in the scariest place imaginable” that he fell off the bed in the dorm scene.
I also think it needs to be said that the way his Albus reacts to Craig’s death is stunning – it colours everything that comes after it in the show for him, not just the torture scene, but everything all the way through to the very final scene.
*
Ginny Potter – Poppy Miller (Emma Lowndes)
Poppy is the only choice for Ginny. She brought together the perfect softness and toughness, and she lived Ginny on stage. She’s another who seemed to have walked off the pages of the book and onto the stage. Also, I can’t pair another Ginny with Jamie P’s Harry. It just wouldn’t be right. They are everything Hinny should be together.
Emma is my cover Ginny for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I haven’t seen Lowri enough times to choose her in good faith. Secondly, I think that Emma does some absolutely beautiful things with Ginny. I love her focus on Albus throughout the play – she prioritises him over Harry at so many points, and that motherly ferocity is a beautiful thing. For that relationship between Ginny and Albus, she has to be my cover.
*
James Potter Jr/Sr & Cedric Diggory – Tom Milligan (Jordan Paris)
Milligan captured the spirit of James in a beautiful way, so I have to pick him. Hilarious as younger James, grown-up and noble as older James, and his “see you at Christmas, Dad!” will never be matched (although attempts have definitely been made). I also realised at the weekend how much I miss his Cedric, especially when Mackley is on as Albus. Their maze scenes were a thing to behold.
And as my cover, I’ve picked Jordan, because he’s silently become one of my favourites. I love both his Jameses, and his Cedric is wonderful. I don’t really have much explanation behind this one, aside from the fact that I enjoy his attitude on stage and the quality of his acting. He’s not overly showy, and his Cedric in particular really shines because of that.
*
Ron Weasley – Thomas Aldridge (Paul Thornley)
Tom may not physically match the perfect description of Ron, but in terms of the character he’s everything you could possibly want. From the bubbly humour, to the gentle ribbing of his family and friends, to the way he sneaks sweets to James in the opening scene, he’s just a dream. I also love the things he brings to the other timelines. In the second there’s the desperate desire to find people and places he loves and escape his miserable life, the bravery he tries to dredge up around Hermione, and his soft despair at never getting her. In the Voldemort world he’s trying to fill Harry’s role as a hero, but he’s also so much himself. And of course I can’t possibly talk about Tom without mentioning that glorious animosity with Draco. Tom is literally my dream Ron. Literally.
And I have to take Thornley as my cover. I wildly enjoyed every one of the performances he gave. He and Alex set the standard for Draco and Ron’s hatred. He was so funny, and he established some things about Ron that will be with the character forever – Scrupius, for example, and the kneeling during the reproposal. He set the bar, and he set it really high.
*
Rose Granger-Weasley – Helen Aluko (Rayxia Ojo)
Helen is such a sweet, dynamic Rose. I love how she teases Scorpius relentlessly, and her facial expressions during the opening scenes of the show are a constant delight. My favourite moment from Helen, though, the moment where she steals the show, is her reaction to the conversation in McGonagall’s office when the kids are eavesdropping. She’s heartbroken, and then she’s angry at her mum, and then she collapses back into heartbreak again. There’s so much there, and she never says a word.
I’ve chosen Rayxia as my cover Rose because I think she has a brilliant, unique take on the character. She’s such a vulnerable Rose. Even though she seems so much older (like Albus’s older and more glamorous cousin) she’s broken, and she needs him to be her friend. I love that take on it, and I’ve never seen anyone else do something like it.
*
Hermione Granger – Nicola Alexis (Rakie Ayola)
Nicola was playing Hermione for the best performance I’ve ever seen, so she will always have a special place in my heart. I think she’s the perfect middle ground between Rakie and Noma – wild and intense but not too much. She seems to have chemistry with absolutely everyone. I love her playful side, like the way she explores her hair and gives Harry a poke in the back of the head during the Polyjuice transformation. I also adore her Voldemort timeline, and her exploration of her character through developing shades of lipstick (including smearing pink lipstick all over Tom A’s face during the baby or a holiday scene) is one of my favourite memories.
Rakie is my cover Hermione because I adore how she plays the friendship between Hermione and Harry in particular. The moment when Harry walks into his office at the start of the play and we see Hermione and Harry alone together and really interacting for the first time is a beautiful chance to see how they’ve grown but also stayed the same. I also adore the way she plays the Romione moments, from her sheer despair in the second timeline when she’s alone, through to the complete, childlike joy of the reproposal.
*
Scorpius Malfoy – Samuel Blenkin (James Le Lacheur)
There is no Scorpius beyond Samuel for me. His performance is masterful; that library scene is a piece of art. Right from the start he took a role that had been so memorably established and made it completely his own. He can go from hilarious to heartbroken in a second. He cries more than I thought possible, and he’s so creative, with such beautiful, deep thoughts about the show and the character. He’s the person behind Draco handing Scorpius Delphi’s wand after the duel – a stunning display of the trust between them, and the development of their relationship – but he’s also responsible for the ‘I love Krum’ chant. He’s mischievous, confident, warm; with such brilliant dynamic and emotional range, and a love of everything he does on stage. I could go on and on, but there’s no reason not to pick him as my dream Scorpius.
James Le Lacheur is my cover Scorpius because her performance has such a special place in my heart. I saw her first ever show, and her last. I adored the way she played out the relationship between Scorpius and Albus. The impulsion in her acting was beautiful, with so much thought and intent. You could always see what Scorpius was thinking and how it was guiding his footsteps. And of course, that little Dark Mark arm rub in McGonagall’s office will forever live in my memory. I only wish we could have seen her and Theo together, because I think it would have been a thing of delight (and I’m not sure any of us would have survived).
*
Madame Hooch/Aunt Petunia/Umbridge – Lowri James (Elizabeth Hill)
Lowri has been my favourite Petunia/Umbridge for a long time. I adore the emotion of her Petunia, which is perfectly balanced, and she’s a masterful Umbridge. I think she finds the perfect placing for these characters that are so easy to overdo or take to a place that isn’t true to the books.
Elizabeth is my cover for Petunia/Umbridge for very similar reasons. She’s brilliant as Petunia, again finding just the right emotional place for her. As Umbridge she’s creepy and wonderful. Her stroking of the fur coat is just the right amount of gross, although she sometimes is a little bit too creepy for me.
*
Craig Bowker Jr – James Phoon (Jeremy Ang Jones)
It was so hard to pick between these two rays of sunshine, but in the end I had to pick James first because I’ve seen him work with Samuel and I know it’s perfect. This might have been the toughest choice though, so I’m not going to write separate explanatory paragraphs for each. They’re both glorious human beings, with the most adorable Craigs. However, I will say that I love James’s movement, and the fluffiness of his hair as he runs round the suitcases at the start of the show will never not warm my heart.
*
Polly Chapman – Leah Haile (Rayxia Ojo)
Leah is the prettiest Polly. That’s all you really need to know. I just think she’s glorious, and she’s a delight to watch. I would pick her as Polly every time just because she shines on stage.
I have better reasons for picking Rayxia as my cover. I’ve only seen her once, but the intent in her performance really impressed me, especially in the Voldemort timeline. She gives Polly this very grand air, with a sense of uncertainty and vulnerability. It’s very clear that she’s using Scorpius to establish her position in the world. She’s trying to marry into money and status, and it’s her way of making herself secure. I love that really clear take on the scene.
*
Yann Fredericks – James Le Lacheur (Henry Rundle)
Yann is one of those roles that doesn’t really feel established until whoever is playing him has covered Scorpius. He’s quite quiet, and the flair only comes out once his actor has had a chance to dig into the real meat of the play. Hence, I’ve picked the two cover Scorpiuses!
James Le Lacheur goes ahead of Rundle only really because she established the role, and I think she did have more intensity of character, however I love Rundle’s take too, and I can’t wait to see him grow into it more over the next few months.
*
Karl Jenkins/Dudley Dursley – Tom Mackley (Jack North)
Mackley has to be my choice for Karl/Dudley. He brings so much flair and humour to the roles, and his Dudley in particular is very memorable for its ridiculousness. Probably my favourite thing he does as Karl is when he stabs Scorpius in the stomach with the handle of his wand during the line “spill some proper Mudblood guts”. We all need to thank whoever gave Mackley a permanent speaking role, because I am never disappointed.
I have to pick Jack as my cover because I loved his movement so much. He brought so much quality to the track, and it was something I never failed to appreciate, and will never forget.
*
Viktor Krum – Jack North
I have to split out Krum because of my two principals neither played Krum! Jack had such perfection of movement and precision as Krum, and it’s one of the things I still miss most about the original cast.
*
Trolley Witch – Sandy McDade (Morag Cross)
I have to split up the Trolley Witch and McGonagall because I do have different preferences. For the Trolley Witch, I love Sandy’s authoritativeness, which I’ve always found carries perfectly through the scene. However, I’ll take Morag as my cover because she’s great too.
*
Professor McGonagall – Morag Cross (Sandy McDade)
Morag is my choice for McGonagall because I feel such an emotional connection to her performance. Before I saw Cursed Child I’d never really thought about McGonagall or felt too much about her, but there was one show where Morag’s scene after the lake made me cry, so she’s the reason I love McGonagall so much. The emotion she brings is simple beautiful, and I’m always excited to see her.
One of the reasons I fell in love with Cursed Child the first time I saw it was how perfect the professors felt, including McGonagall, and Sandy’s performance was a big part of that. I adore her performance, and recently I love how she’s started emphasising one of her lines differently, giving it a new meaning. When Hermione asks “What did I miss?” when she walks into the post-lake conversation, McGonagall’s reply ends with “Maybe you missed that.” It’s an emphasis that makes so much sense, but I’ve only noticed it recently, and I love it.
*
Draco Malfoy – James Howard (Ed White)
There is only one choice for Draco. James is perfect. He is Draco, in the way that Jamie Parker is Harry. He was born for the role and I can’t imagine him doing anything else. The strength and authority in his voice is what sets him apart from everyone else, as well as his interpretation of the character, especially in the scene in Draco’s office.
Recently he’s started explicitly playing Draco as being under cover in the Voldemort timeline, which I adore. He glances around before speaking to Scorpius about what he’s up to, and those tiny details are what makes his performance special. Other highlights are playing with his wedding ring when he speaks about Astoria, bracing himself on the desk facing away from Scorpius when he says he can’t lose him too, and that delightful chin grab, where he takes hold of Scorpius’s chin and examines him before declaring that there’s more Astoria in there than he thought. I could go on, but all you need to know is that it’s James, and it will always be James.
I had trouble picking my cover, but in the end I’ve gone for Ed simply because he works beautifully with Samuel (and because James L and Alex don’t work together at all), and because he did the best Draco’s office scene ever. When a Draco puts his hand on Scorpius’s heart as he says there’s more Astoria in there than he thought you just can’t say no to him. He’s my guilty pleasure Draco, everything I want but know I shouldn’t have, and I adore him for that.
*
Amos Diggory/Professor Dumbledore – Barry McCarthy (Martin Johnston)
Until Sunday I really wouldn’t have had a choice here, but I have now (finally) seen Martin, so this is actually a choice!
I’ve taken Barry first because he is the perfect Dumbledore, and because I love his Amos so much. There are so many tiny details that he’s changed in response to the new cast, and he’s a consummate professional. His Dumbledore really is part of the magic of the show that captured me when I first saw it.
I found Martin’s Dumbledore captivating, and I loved the fragility and vulnerability of it – that was the thing that most broke me when I saw him. I also love the flamboyant grace with which he dismissed the trees in the Forbidden Forest. It really was a thing of beautiful magic. So I feel no qualms in making him my cover, and who knows, when I’ve seen him more times I might end up preferring him!
*
Delphi Diggory – Annabel Baldwin (Esther Smith)
This was such a hard choice, because I love all three ladies who play Delphi with all my heart and soul. Annabel almost didn’t make it into my top two because I love her Lily too much (and I need her and Milligan to be James and Lily together), but then I came to my senses and realised it was stupid not to pick her.
Annabel has been my favourite Delphi since the first time I saw her. She is a captivating actress, who holds the theatre in the palm of her hand, especially in the torture scene. I love when she goes rogue and slaps the boys or kicks Craig (can someone get the directors to always let her get away with that? Because it’s great). She’s so sinister, and she can bring such powerful performances to the stage, especially in the scene in the church between Delphi and fake Voldemort. She’s just brilliant, and it would be a crime not to take her as Delphi every single time.
I picked Esther as my cover Delphi because I always found her performance so beautiful. She’s not the most creepy or terrifying Delphi ever, but she did some amazing things. I still remember her sobbing in the St Jerome’s scene during ‘the best show ever’, and I loved her hand choreography when she was reciting the prophecy – Annabel does a slightly different version, and I still miss Esther’s sometimes.
*
Uncle Vernon/Severus Snape/Voldemort – David Annen (David Annen)
Sorry but I refuse to pick a Snape other than David. I refuse. His performance is too special to be replaced. He has such an innate understanding of his characters, especially Snape and Voldemort, which comes from deep readings of the books. He cares so much about these characters, and it’s amazing.
He came up with his Voldemort voice by reading every description of Voldemort speaking from the books. As Snape, the messages he writes on the blackboard are messages of hope to Snape’s students who are struggling in that world. Those special details are simply irreplaceable.
*
Moaning Myrtle – April Hughes (Annabel Baldwin)
April learned her Myrtle voice listening to the films, and she’d practice it while she made dinner at home. She’s ridiculous, and that voice is perfect. I love the brilliant details she puts in the background of the Myrtle scenes (shaking her head when Albus tells Scorpius everything is going to be okay, waving her feet around by Harry’s head but never quite touching him, and very slowly lifting her leg up in the most flirtatious way when she says “I do like brave boys”). I didn’t think anyone could ever replace Annabel, but she managed it.
Annabel is of course my cover Myrtle because how could she not be? Also, she then gets to play Lily with Milligan, which is the real dream.
*
Bane – Adam McNamara (Nuno Silva)
Is this my most controversial choice? I think it might be...
I saw Adam’s Bane several times leading up to cast change, and I have abiding memories of the intensity of it. That performance made a huge impact on me. The acting was brilliant, especially the way he appealed to Harry. Those were some of the best Bane scenes I’ve watched.
And Nuno is my cover Bane because I love him just as much. Always consistently brilliant. Delivering show in, show out. I’m always mesmerised by the way he breathes in this scene for some reason. It fascinates me. And I love the strength and anger in his performance.
*
Station Master – James McGregor (Adam McNamara)
James McGregor’s Station Master is basically the cutest thing in the world. He just looks so young and adorable, and his Scottish accent makes me melt.
And obviously I can’t not pick Adam, because there is no Scottish accent like Adam’s. His Station Master was incomprehensible, just the way he should be. No one will ever match that.
*
Young Harry Potter – Harrison Noble (Jabez Cheeseman)
Harrison is an incredible little actor. He’s just perfect. My favourite scene of his is the dream at the beginning of Act Two, where he’s so intense. You can hear the fear in his breathing. He’s stunning.
Jabez is my cover because he was a close second behind Harrison before he left for me. The day we found out he was leaving was a sad day indeed, and I miss him a lot.
*
Lily Potter Jr – Ella Bright (Hope Sizer)
I want a Lily to be tiny and bubbly and full of life, and both Ella and Hope did that. Ella’s the sweetest thing, and she fits with the rest of the Potters so well. I picked Hope second because I always enjoyed her performances and looked forward to seeing her when she was on.

Chapter Thirty - Heartbreak
Both Minerva and Severus had a full day with back-to-back classes, having split Lyra’s classes between them. It was easy to take over from her as she had each day planned and most of it was revision for the students anyway as their final exams were scheduled for the following week.
Severus found himself in a constant state of anxiety through the day, his stomach churning and his patience short for any student who would toe his boundaries.
He suspected that Lyra was pregnant. It made sense. It explained her fatigue over the past few weeks as well as her overly sensitive nipples although when he had dropped by the Hospital Wing, Poppy had insisted that Lyra merely had a stomach bug. He attempted to see her but she was asleep. He had hoped it was just a stomach bug but his gut told him otherwise.
Lyra was pregnant. She was expecting a child. His child.
He had never desired children, he had already discussed that with her. Yet, he found himself toying with the idea in his head. Him, Lyra and a child. A small baby. Their baby. He could see so perfectly its smiling face and Lyra’s adoration for both it and him. The way her eyes would light up and sparkle, the warmth that light would bring.
Perhaps he could be a father. He felt as though if he were with Lyra he could do anything. But for now he was worried; anxious to know the truth, anxious to see whether she was alright.
The day seemed to last forever. Every minute dragged on.
He had his own class to finish the day and once that had concluded and the room was tidied he found his way up to Classroom 3C to see whether Lyra was back from the Hospital Wing.
When he entered the classroom he realised all her things were gone. Those glass cabinets with projections of creatures were gone and her table was bare. The museum like atmosphere she had created was gone and instead the classroom was empty, except for the furniture that was already there. His stomach twisted, a chill ran down his spine and his nerves felt alight, his hands were shaking as his head began to spin slightly. He feared the worst, that she had left without a trace. Before he allowed himself to lose his nerve entirely he strode up the staircase that led to her office and pressed the door open.
Lyra didn’t even acknowledge him as he entered the room, still flicking her wand and packing her things away.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“Packing my things,” she replied in a bored tone, not even bothering to look up.
“Why?”
“Because I’m leaving,” she slammed the case in her hands shut before heading for her bedroom door.
Severus reached out and grabbed her by the arm, “Lyra.”
“What?” she spat, glaring up at him. He tried casting legilimens but she rolled her eyes, pulling away from him and continuing into her bedroom.
“Why are you leaving?” he asked.
“You think someone as intelligent as you would’ve figured it out already,” she said, “I’m pregnant.”
“That’s no reason to leave,” he began, ready to give her a speech.
“It’s not yours,” she replied carelessly, flicking her wand at her suitcase and opening it, sending her clothes in.
Those words cut deep. Like a knife tearing through his heart and his stomach. He felt ill. He felt like crying. He felt so much. He felt too much.
“The wedding?” he asked, slightly dazed.
“Obviously,” she replied, “I was drunk and I forgot to cast the charm.”
“I should’ve gone with you,” he said softly. His hands were trembling. A lump caught in his throat. Gods, he was going to lose her and he couldn’t. “Lyra, we should talk about this,” he said, attempting to say it as clear and precisely as possible.
“Talk about what?” she snapped, “About how I fucked someone else?”
“Lyra, you don’t need to leave,” he said, “We can sit down and talk about it, we can discuss your options.”
“What options are you referring to?” she asked, “Do you think I’d shed pureblood?”
He swallowed hard as his insecurities began to bubble up. Of course she’d screw someone pureblooded, how could he live up to that? How could he compare?Desperation began to take hold of him as he tried to cling to Lyra and the remains of their relationship.
“Lyra, I still want you. We can still be together, we can raise this child together.”
“You want to raise a kid that isn’t yours?” she asked, “You don’t even want your own fucking kid.”
“I could it if it was with you,” he insisted.
“I knew I was a good fuck but I didn’t know I’d make you this desperate,” she said with a laugh, “How pathetic.”
“I thought- I thought you loved me,” he said, becoming uncertain of himself.
She laughed again, “Oh Sev.” She stepped forward and stroked his cheek in a condescending way for a brief moment. “You really should’ve listened to your doubts all along. I’ve been owling Ilya since I saw him at New Years. I fucked him when I got my Order of Merlin and I fucked him at the wedding.”
“You’re lying,” he shook his head in disbelief.
“I only kept you around to warm my bed and because you were a decent shag,” she said, “Our arrangement was convenient and amusing.”
“No, what about Lucius?” he asked, “He slapped you and made you cry.”
“I needed him to believe it so you in turn would believe it,” she shrugged, “It was also amusing getting under his skin. Who knew I could piss him off that badly just by fucking his best friend? I’ve always known my place but god, he hasn’t shut up about it for years. I can’t believe he was going to marry me off to Carrow. I thought I’d see how he felt if I fucked one of his other Death Eater buddies. It was enough for him to give up that idea.”
“So I was just a pawn in your game?”
“Come on, Sev,” she said with a smirk, “Don’t think about it like that. It was more like you were a toy that I got bored of, something that was filling the place until something bigger and better came along and it did.”
He closed his eyes and swallowed, his mind and thoughts were now twisted with doubt as Lyra’s words poisoned him.
“Did you really think you’d ever be good enough for me?” she asked with a small laugh, “A filthy mudblood fit for a Lestrange.”
“Don’t say that word,” he said.
“Mudblood?” she said in a taunting tone, “But that’s all you are Sev, a mudblood who thinks he’s better than the rest when you are no better than the dirt on my shoe.”
A large crack echoed in the room.
Severus’ hand had connected with Lyra’s face, slapping her. Her head turned from the impact but she gritted her teeth and looked at him with a fire in her eyes and firm expression. “Get out,” she said, “I’m done.”
Severus turned his heel and left, slamming the door in his wake. He barged through packs of students with a furious expression on his face. He barrelled into his quarters and tore the room apart with his wand, smashing things, tearing apart his furniture, allowing it to break as he threw each piece.
He couldn’t allow himself to stop. Memories of the past few months threatened to play in his head. Her voice was already taunting him.
Heavens. How could he be so naive to think that she would love him. Of course it was all a sick ploy. He shouldn’t have expected anything better from a Lestrange. How she had gotten under his skin and torn him apart.
He didn’t even realise that an angry yell was ripping through his throat the entire time. Once he had run out of energy he looked around and saw the mess he made, he fell to his knees and he cried.
God. How his heart ached like no other time before it. It was almost as though his heart had hardened and shattered into a million pieces, each shard imbedding itself in his chest.
How could he allow himself to be played by her?
There was no chance that she ever loved him. Who would love someone as ugly and horrible as him? She just used him and now he was left here, burning in the aftermath of their love affair.
He stayed there and cried, sobbing until his tears ran dry and numbness overcame him.
It may have been an hour or two before he found the strength to get back up. He headed for the bathroom and stripped, getting into the shower. He allowed the water to wash over him, hoping it would wash her away but her touch still haunted him. Her essence was still thick in the air and all around him. He reached for the bar of soap and began to scrub, trying to erase any trace of her but it still lingered.
He cried out once more, falling to the floor. His knees were pressed up to his chest and he just held them tightly to himself, trying to give himself so comfort. He felt so empty, so hollow, so broken. Oh, how he’d been played.
Severus didn’t come out of his room for days. He didn’t want to eat. He couldn’t even sleep in his own bed because he had shared it with her. Everything was tainted with the memory of her. Everything just hurt way too much and he wanted it all to stop so he tried to numb himself with alcohol.
“Severus, what do you think you’re doing?”
He turned his head and saw that the Headmaster had breached the protective barriers he had placed around his quarters. He gritted his teeth and turned back, staring at the fireplace that flickered with a fire.
Albus approached him and sat next to the Potions Master, “Interesting redecorating.”
Severus didn’t answer him, his eyes were fixed on the flames.
“Severus, let this be a lesson to not get distracted,” he said.
“So did you put her up to this?” Severus asked, “Because it doesn’t make sense. None of it makes sense. Lyra was genuine.”
“Lyra is a Lestrange, through and through,” Albus said, “She is her mother’s daughter, as cruel as Bellatrix no doubt. I was misguided, Severus and I apologise. I should have listened to you when you expressed your concerns, she had us all fooled.”
There was still a part of Severus that doubted it, doubted that she was that cruel. Surely it was a rouse. Lyra had felt so real, so loving, so genuine. His mind had been swirling with the memories of her for days.
“Severus, I need you to be strong,” Albus continued, “I know it is hard to have your heart broken once more but please, allow it to strengthen your resolve than weaken it.”
“For what purpose, Albus?”
“Lily Evans’ son will be starting this coming term,” he said, “And I fear that is when Voldemort will attempt his return. You must protect him, Severus.”
“I can’t,” he said, his voice was broken.
“You can and you must.”
