𝑺𝑭𝑾🌿
After a long day, your s/o decides to take you to a nearby tavern and have a drink. It had been a while since either of you had gotten out without a duty to do. However, your evening was cut short when a drunken asshole insulted you.
𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐍
・Merlin would never be able to keep such a big secret from his spouse; he'd want to give every part of himself to you. And so he had. You welcomed the secret with open arms.
・So when you made your way down to the tavern after a particularly challenging day, you were not expecting to be outright insulted.
・The bald fat (toothless) man let the words escape his drunken mouth without the hint of a thought of consequence.
・Big motherfucking mistake.
・A bewildered laugh came from Merlin. His mind already sifting through the many spells he was about to use.
・You looked at him, and simply nodded. This day had been too heavy, and the insult, no matter how untrue, was still hurtful.
・'Out of nowhere' (as some patrons would later explain it), the man flew from his chair and landed in the lap of the burliest man there.
・Strong man was furious and as he looked down, anger rose within him (you could physically see it ... he turned red...)
・Without even lifting a finger, your hater had been punched, and kicked straight out of the tavern. Not before Merlin made him land in a pile of dung.
Tumblr media
𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐎𝐓
・When your honour is in question Lancelot does not play around.
・As he hears the insult, automatically, his head moves to the left, and he blinks once.
・Without a word he unsheaths his sword and waits for the low life to do the same.
・When the low life doesn't, Lancelot makes someone give him a sword, and drags him outside.
"I'm going to make you think twice before saying such filth."
・And the high pitch ring of steel on steel rang out in the air.
・The whole time your head was in your hands, because truly, you had heard worse. You were tough, and all you wanted to do was get a bit sloshed with your hot ass husband.
・But no, he insisted on fighting for your honour ... like he always does.
・And low and behold, the Knight of Camelot won.
"Are you alright, my love?" Lancelot's lips were pressed against your ear, and you nodded.
"You know you don't have to do that for me-"
"Oh I know," he replies quickly, giving you a half smile. "But you are my spouse. And I will always protect you."
Tumblr media
𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐇𝐔𝐑
・Scoffs, a smirk on his lips as his eyes narrow on the idiot who insulted you.
"Do you know who I am? Well... I guess not. Someone with a brain would never insult the King nor his Queen/Consort"
・Gasps were heard around the tavern
And the man went as pale as Gaius' hair
"Ah, I see you've figured it out. Thought I might have to spell it for you."
"Oh Arthur," you scolded, bumping his shoulder.
・You had heard it all in your lifetime, and one day you decided that the words of sheep do not affect a tiger.
"What would you like me to do with him, my love? The dungeons? The stocks?"
・You watched as the man quivered. He would have been in his mid-twenties, barely a whisker on his chin.
"Hmmmm," you pretended to think. Your mind already made up. It was a silly little comment, from a silly little boy.
・Arthur knew you too well, his gaze turned stern on the young man. A rusted sword hanging on his hilt. He had begun to shake.
"I think we should leave him be. Maybe he won't let his tongue wag so freely."
Tumblr media
𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐈𝐕𝐀𝐋
"Excuse me? What was that?"
・Percival instantly shot up from his seat at the table. The candle flickered as he did so, and you reached out to steady it.
"Perci, it's fine, really." You mumbled, not wanting to draw more attention to yourself. But one of the positives of having such a huge husband is that he will win against nearly anyone in a fight.
・Well, most of the time, men are too scared to even fight him.
・As was your insulter.
・Whose bravado slowly diminished as he watched the large Knight loom over him.
"What I- what I meant was-"
"Apologise."
"Sorry, I'm terribly sorry. I didn't mean it!"
"Now leave."
"Yes, yes of course!"
・You were actually impressed by the cowardice of this man. He didn't put up one ounce of a fight. Just followed exactly what Percival said.
"Thank you," you whispered, a smile appearing on your face.
"No. Never thank me. I will always stand up for you."
Tumblr media
𝐄𝐋𝐘𝐀𝐍
・A raise of his eyebrow, and a turn of the head. A cold, intimidating demeanour washing over him. Elyan noticed the clean face, shining armour and coat of arms on the man's cloak.
"Say that again. I dare you." His voice was a growl; low and rumbling.
・The man, no, knight, did not shrink or apologise.
"Oh what a match. The marred and the deaf. A great pair-" the knight turned around and laughed with his men.
"Mmm." Elyan looked at the arse like a snake deciding on dinner.
・Your hand itched to grab the dagger at your waist, but Elyan knew you too well.
・Looking at you, he put a hand on your arm and slightly nodded his head. I want to handle this, his eyes said.
・Folding your arms, you took a step back, 'be my guest,' you answered with a smile.
Tumblr media
𝐆𝐖𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐄
・Aggressive asf
・Doesn't even ask who said it first, he just throws himself at anyone and everyone who laughs
・Absolutely punching and kicking, grabbing heads and banging them together.
・You shake your head but join in, because that's part of the reason Gwaine loves you. You never let him have all the fun.
・And you would never let anyone talk crap about you. Especially to your face. That's not the reputation you wanted to hold.
・But who knew brawls could be romantic? With Gwaine somehow they are...
・Especially when he holds a man down so you can give him a few punches, Gwaine smiling at you.
"That's my girl/that's my guy"
・But it's not like you're allowed into many taverns anymore
・Only when Arthur, the King is there, that you're allowed to enter.
Tumblr media
𝐋𝐄𝐎𝐍
・Instantly his nose flares, invisible steam streaming from them.
"Apologise. This instant."
"Ooohooo," was the only reply he got. Along with the awful sound of drunk men's laughter. Well, more like coughing and wheezing.
"I'll ask one more time. After that, you'll be on the ground."
・The men barely looked in your husbands direction. Big mistake...
・Leon moved to block your view of what he was about to do.
・Because his word was truth.
・Within a second, the man who insulted you was on the floor, nose broken and bleeding.
・Once he's sorted it out, Leon turns to you and holds out his arm for you to take.
"Are you alright my love?" His concern falls on you and doesn't leave until you're feeling better.

Headcanon that Merlin listens to Arthur and the knight’s rambling because he just really enjoys listening to them talk
I’ve had this headcanon for a while and I’ve written about it a few times but never anything I liked enough to post. But I got reminded about it again so I thought I’d share here.
If anyone writes this, please just tag me here or on Ao3 and give credit. Thanks :))
Merlin realises pretty early on in Camelot that nobles are never forthcoming with information or talking.
He also learns that Arthur loves to ramble about his special interests or hyper-fixations, despite it being trained out of him from an early age.
ADHD Arthur has me in a chokehold most days and I really really hate Uther despite the source of angst.
Anyway, Merlin will act like he doesn’t know anything about hunting or swords even after he’s had a few months in Camelot and he’ll ask Arthur more and more questions till he starts rambling.
And Merlin loves it. He loves listening and getting a chance to relax and not be the constant ball of energy in the relationship. He gets Arthur talking about longbows or developments in battle strategy throughout history while they’re on rides or walking through the halls, or he asks about breaking the horses for riding, Camelot’s history, pretty much anything.
Arthur just thinks Merlin is genuinely curious about these things, but he realises Merlin hates hunting, he shouldn’t care about bow weight or arrows. And he can’t handle a sword to save his life so why would he be interested in why the discovery of counterbalance is important?
It’s not till he looks over during one of his rants and sees Merlin completely at ease that he realises Merlin just likes listening. Arthur pauses and Merlin frowns to ask why he stopped. Arthur isn’t one to look a gift horse in the mouth when it comes to Merlin and he knows better than to try and understand him. So he rolls his eyes, says something about making sure he was actually listening, to which Merlin reassures him he’s listening by repeating the last few things Arthur’s said, with his own understanding to show he’s interested, before telling Arthur to keep talking.
It spreads around the knights eventually and Merlin becomes the guy who listens to people. Leon, in particular, will spend time talking to Merlin about things he finds interesting because he’s never had anyone to listen to him before. Gwaine knows why Leon and Arthur are so happy to talk to Merlin because he experienced it too when Merlin said he wasn’t sick of having Gwaine around and talking ‘too much’ after his first time in Camelot.
He also gets a few skills along the way, he can pick a perfect sword for Arthur’s birthday present, learns a lot about the Druids from Percival and a lot of other things from the knights.
And the fics I wrote for this were entirely an excuse for me to ramble about why the capes in BBC Merlin were stupid and inaccurate, and the various other historical inaccuracies in the show, but that’s another thing.

Been rewatching my fave eps of Merlin while drinking wine and that ep where Uthers spirit comes back and Leon runs into Merlin and Arthur in the middle of the night and Merlin says he was teaching Arthur poetry…I have one thing to say. Leon definitely thought somethin was going on (that face as he walks away and his legit behaviour after the fact in various episodes lol) 👀 ya know what I mean lmfao

So this is like 90% canon compliant, but has some headcanon in the fact of Merlin keeping a journal to make sure he never forgets those who were most important to him.

Next up today is Morgana Pendragon!
I’ve done some for the canon universe and some for the modern universe.
This woman is a lesbian.
She doesn’t actually know the term but she has never been attracted to men and only ever flirted with them for fun.
The first girl she ever fell for was Gwen when they were children and her feelings grew stronger when Gwen became her maid.
She used to be a little jealous of Leon because him and Gwen were close friends due to Gwen’s mother being a maid in his household. At the time she was young and didn’t understand that she was jealous because she had feelings for Gwen all she knew was that whenever she saw Leon talking with Gwen and Elyan she felt upset.
She likes to give Gwen kisses on her forehead whenever no one is looking. This always makes Gwen get really flustered which Morgana thinks is adorable.
Whenever she’s had a bad vision that leaves her too scared to sleep she’ll sometimes ask Gwen to stay in the room with her because Gwen makes her feel safe. She has on occasion asked Gwen to lay down with her so she can hold her and wrap around her. It makes her feel safe enough to fall asleep knowing she has someone she loves with her in her arms.
Modern Headcanons:
Morgana goes to many pride parades and always has her pride flag colours painted on her nails. She always asks Gwen and Merlin along with her since they’re both Bi and occasionally Arthur will come along too.
She is a fan of a lot of Queer artists such as Tegan and Sara, Dodie Clark and Girl in Red. She is also into a lot of rock bands too.
Arthur was the first person she ever came out to because she felt like he’d understand. She’d seen the way he was with Merlin and knew that this was what she felt about Gwen. Arthur was accepting and they both talk about things all the time.
She doesn’t really talk to Uthur unless she has to because she’s sure he would be bothered by it. The only reason she actually sees him at all is for Arthur’s sake because her brother isn’t ready to break away from him yet.

The Shrine of Emrys: An Additional factor for Merlin's Migraines
The day began like any other which is what Merlin blames for why he felt so relaxed and not as vigilant. Maybe if he was, the warlock could have been able to convince his friends that he spied deer in the opposite direction of what will now be the reason for Merlin’s anxiety. Unfortunately, hindsight always works better after an incident occurs never before, the little fucker.
“At least it’s not a well this time,” Gwaine chimes in, interrupting the tense silence that enveloped their party the moment the shrine came into their sights.
“How does that make this one better?” Leon sighed.
“Well, none of us will feel compelled to drink it!”
In Merlin’s periphery, he saw Elyan wince, the memory of when he was possessed still haunting him. No one blames the knight though. After that whole mess, Percival and Leon made sure to keep their group’s supplies always stocked with the right amount for missions or hunting parties. They even made sure to teach their own squires how to properly ration food and water, the best places to find drinkable water, and what berries were considered safe to eat.
Arthur moved closer to the little shrine that sat near an old oak tree. He squatted and examined how the thin rocks were piled on top of one another, how the inside of it seemed to glow (was it from magic? A trick of the light? Or maybe there were diamonds inside, Merlin couldn’t tell and Arthur didn’t say.) and how the curved roof of the shrine sprouted thick branches, harvesting some kind of fruit. Merlin watched carefully as his king looked the shrine up and down, as his lips curved into a pensive frown, as he brought his fingers to his lips, contemplating.
“What do you suppose this one’s for?” he finally asked. “This one seems…less somber.”
And it is, unless, a shrine that held sweetmeats and honeycomb inside it was one of malevolent intent. But what a strange shrine that would be. Merlin couldn’t help but ponder what kind of evil sweetmeats and honeycomb could cause. The evil of too much sugar? The evil of glorious temptation? Frankly, Merlin wouldn’t mind if he were to fall for such a temptation. In fact, these offerings almost seem to…call to him. Like they were there for him.
“Because it is less somber, sire.”
Everyone turns to Percival. The knight lets out a cough like he surprised himself with that answer, or maybe he didn’t expect everyone’s immediate attention on him. Eyes curious and surprised that he held such knowledge.
“How so, Percival?” their king asks him.
And Percival answers his king, but it’s an answer Merlin was not expecting. Honestly, he never expected such an answer to even be one Percival had previous knowledge of.
“Because this shrine is to Emrys,” the knight says with no hesitation, “and the Druids wish to keep him pleased.”
“Emrys?”
“Who is he?”
“Will he be a threat to us?”
And so, there went Merlin’s peaceful day with nothing magic related. He wished the earth could just consume him, take him away from what’s about to transpire, but the earth stays quiet.
“No, no, Emrys is not a threat,” Percival answers, quick to reassure his friends. “Well…” the knight makes a face. “He isn’t…meant to be a threat.”
Merlin tries his best to not feel offended by such a description. It’s not like Percival knows he’s talking about the knights’ beloved manservant. Merlin shouldn’t feel the slight of betrayal as his dear friend describes him as some cryptid Fae folk. Merlin is not a part of the Fae! As far as he’s aware, anyway.
“Explain,” Arthur ordered.
So, Percival did. Percival explained to his friends all he knew about the infamous Emrys. He explained why the Druids revered him.
(“Are we even sure this Emrys is a him?” Merlin couldn’t help but ask. Maybe if he did, then it would derail the topic and Merlin would be safe.
“I mean, that’s how the Druids refer to Emrys, but,” Percival hesitates as he considers how to answer it, “they could be wrong. Sometimes their prophecies are very vague to the point that any person could fit them, and sometimes they’re not. But Emrys has not struck them down yet, so maybe?”
And so Percival continued his tales about Emrys, with Merlin’s plan foiled.)
Merlin did note how the knight made sure to steer clear of ever explicitly mentioning the cause of the Druids’ reverence for Emrys (Uther’s Purge), but that didn’t stop Arthur from picking up on it. Percival also explained certain details Merlin wasn’t even aware of. Details like Emrys being immortal for one.
“So you mean…” Merlin bit his lip. “This Emrys can’t die?”
“Not by a mortal’s hand.”
“Ah.” He could feel his throat closing in on itself, flashes of past moments flooded his head. Past moments where Merlin felt himself cose to death or moments where others gazed at him with unbridled terror because some poison didn’t work. Merlin’s head pounds, this is too much for him to process.
Something flickered across Percival’s face. Confusion, curiosity, then something else, but his face switched to neutral before Merlin could decipher it. The knight looked back to the rest of their party as he wrapped an arm around Merlin. It almost felt like comfort. Like a reassurance. Merlin had a brief moment of panic. Did he know? Will he tell? Is this just because Percival is a very tactile person? Did he notice that Merlin was no longer feeling well?
“You said he’s born to heal the wounds of the Old Religion,” Arthur says, snapping Merlin from the downward spiral. “That he was born as the Druids’ protector and healer.”
“Not just the Druids, sire. There are more than just the Druids who practice the Old Religion.”
Arthur nodded, his eyes looking back at the shrine, but, strangely, it was like he was looking at something further away. Something only he could see. A past memory? Or maybe old words he once ignored that have new meaning to them with this context.
“If he’s here to be their avenger, why do they have to keep him pleased?”
It was Gwaine who asked, mouth full of food. Somehow, the handsome man had found an apple whilst their friend told them all about this revered sorcerer. Probably one of the items Leon had packed for them.
(“So he’s a god?” Gwaine had asked.
“No?”
“Wait, why’d you answer that like a question?”
“It’s really complicated–”
“So they worship him.”
“Yes but—”
“They hold a festival for when his power was first felt by everyone.” This one was Elyan. Both he and Gwaine exchange a look of understanding.
“Look–”
“And they say he is the chosen champion of the Triple Goddess.”
Percival sighed at his friends as they continued on with their, admittedly well-thought out, theory. It was times like these where he missed Lancelot, who he knew would have also brought up some interesting points that would have most likely fueled the flames to his friends’ assumptions. Although, Lancelot always seemed to know more than Percival despite him being the one raised by the Druids.
“Ok, fine, he’s a new god for them”
“But what is he the god of then? Say, Elyan do you still have those scrolls on that pantheon in the Mediterra—”)
Percival winces as he prepares himself to answer Gwaine’s question. Merlin couldn’t help but frown at that reaction. The Druids don’t see him as unpredictable do they? They view him as benevolent, right? Maybe they believe him to be wrathful like Morgana? He’ll need to meet with Taliesin soon just to make sure.
“About eight years ago, someone decided to challenge Emrys. She even went as far as to harm the Once and Future King–”
“The who?”
“There’s a prophesied king?!”
“Yes, he’s called the Once and Future King, their destinies are intertwined, he is said to bring in an age of peace and unity between those with magic and without—will you let me finish!”
The knights kept their mouths shut as Percival unveiled more about this sorceress. How she was the previous Priestess of Avalon (Merlin felt himself freeze, and he silently prayed that maybe Percival meant someone else), and that after attempting to force Emrys into joining her revenge plot against Camelot, he struck her with a lightning bolt.
“–So you see, the Druids felt that they needed to make sure Emrys knew they weren’t seeking to go against him. And while he is said to be their savior, there are Seers who have cautioned that Emrys can very well be their end if pushed too far. Nimueh’s demise was proof of that.”
Their circle of knights was quiet after that. Neither spoke nor asked Percival for more clarification, everyone too deep in their thoughts. Merlin, however, was an internal screeching mess. He had no idea that his battle with Nimueh caused such a reaction from the Druids. Honestly, with how much people continued to harm Arthur and the kingdom, he didn’t think anyone would have buckled down and built him shrines because of what he did. It was both strange and comforting, like his actions were truly being seen and appreciated, but also he felt something ugly curl into his gut. They didn’t build the shrine until he hurt one of their own.
They feared him.
Merlin wanted to sigh. He’s so tired of them solely viewing him like he was the Triple Goddess incarnate. He looked back at the shrine and how its offerings laid there to appease him. To keep him on their good side. Well, Merlin always was partial to some honeycomb. It wouldn’t hurt if he just…took the offerings, show them that he does want to see a future of peace between magic users and regular humans.
It’s not like Merlin wants to go against the Druids, but if these offerings will make them believe he is pleased with them, Merlin might as well. He wonders if someone overheard him admit to liking honey. Did they ask his mother about the sweetmeats?
“Merlin!” It’s Elyan who grabs his wrist as it was closing in on one of the berry tarts (he hoped it was raspberry). “Do you want to get smited by Emrys?!”
It took every fiber in Merlin's body to keep a straight face. It took even more to not reply with a quip outing himself.
By the Goddess, how should he answer that question?
“No,” he said, eyes wide like a stunned deer.
“Then why did you reach for the offerings!”
What a silly question! These offerings are for Merlin, thereby he should have them, yes?
“I was hungry.”
“Merlin, we have plenty of food packed in our supplies,” Leon placated. It seemed he was trying to calm down Elyan, who became quite panicked when Merlin reached for the desired tart. Understandable though, Merlin knows Elyan meant well, but how can he explain why him taking the sweets won’t place Emrys’s wrath upon him without revealing that he is said wrathful Emrys (although he wouldn’t be very wrathful if they just let him take the tart).
“My bag is too far away though,” he said, like he was that six year old boy who followed his mother around the castle while she worked. He never wished to leave his mother’s side, so he would always complain if she asked him to fetch something a few feet away. Leon even gave Merlin the same look the boy’s mother gave him. This felt unfair. Merlin wasn’t some six year old with attachment issues. He was Emrys and this was his shrine, but he can’t tell Leon that.
“I’ll go fetch it for you, Merls!”
Bless Gwaine. Always after his own heart, that man. Not to mention, he also brought the knights’ attention to himself, granting Merlin the opportunity to swipe the tart from the shrine and shove it into his mouth. It tasted heavenly.
Yes, this shrine thing was a great idea on the Druids part.
“What’s in your mouth, Merlin?”
Shit, he forgot to count Arthur. Arthur who only glanced over at Gwaine for a couple of seconds, and most likely saw Merlin shove the tart in his mouth. Merlin swallowed the rest of the  tart.
“Nothing, sire.”
Yes, good start, Merlin. He can play this game.
“Nothing?”
“Yep.”
“So I didn't see you eat one of the offerings to Emrys.”
“That’s correct, sire.”
“And was it good?”
“Very, like a taste from–” shit!
“Do you have a death wish!” Elyan hissed at him. Merlin refrained from answering that question. It seemed rhetorical, and his friend probably wasn’t seeking for Merlin’s honesty right then. “Emrys killed a priestess, what do you think he’ll do to you?”
“Well, she was being rude. I just ate a tart.”
“A tart not meant for you!”
Typically, in moments like these, the party is interrupted by either bandits or rogue sorcerers. This is mostly because moments like these escalate and people get loud, alerting enemies to their location. Then, when the dust settles, they are able to end disputes more amicably (this is because all the frustration is let out during the fighting, leaving the gang tired with no need nor desire to fight their friends right after). Unfortunately for Merlin, there is no spontaneous appearance from rogue sorcerers or bandits that aid Merlin in avoiding this conversation. What there is, however, is a well placed beehive hanging just above their camp. Maybe if Merlin faked a cough he could—
A distant roar is heard, coming from the west. It pauses everyone’s movement for a quick moment until Arthur makes the order to seek out the roar, claiming that such a beast is too close to Camelot for his own comfort. Elyan gives Merlin a stern look to mean that this conversation wasn't over as he made his way to the horses. Merlin breathes out a sigh in relief before joining the knights with their preparations. Whatever creature they find, Merlin will find a way to spare it as thanks (not that it’d know what the thanks is for, but that’s not important).

Geoffrey of Monmouth interviews the knights of the round table for the history books. It turns into therapy.
“Arthur is a fair and just King, except when Merlin is involved. Have you seen the man? He’s thin as a rail and has the survival instincts of a suicidal deer. Yet, Arthur brings him everywhere! I have nightmares about him getting killed. And it’s not even my own grief I fear. Arthur will be unbearable if Merlin dies.” - Percival
“Hate the Princess. He’s awful, all nobles are. I’m only here for Merlin.” -Gwaine
“It has been my longest held dream to be a Knight of Camelot. I owe all of it to Merlin.” -Lancelot
“The knights had discipline before Arthur adopted Merlin’s feral friends. I had to carry Gwaine home from the Rising Sun twice last week. Which should be Percy’s job. He’s as big as a mountain. Clearly Lancelot is insane. He’s secretly courting Gwen or Merlin—or maybe both!—but either way he’s driving Arthur to distraction with jealousy.” -Leon
“I was only knighted because the King had a crush on my sister. I may lose my title when he realizes that he’s head over heels for Merlin, but I’m enjoying it while it lasts.” -Elyan
It becomes a weekly thing and Geoffrey is forced to add a footnote to history proclaiming Merlin is the King’s best friend. He hopes people in the future understand what he means.

⭑ Gifts, gifts, and more gifts.
⭑ He loves giving you jewelry; and he doesn’t need a reason. He is the King, so he can do whatever he pleases. So, you have jewelry boxes full of jewels, silver, gold, etc.
⭑ He wants to impress you; for you to think that he’s an important man who has no limits.
⭑ He gets Merlin to do the heavy work though
“Merlin! Merlin where are you? I need you to shine this-”
“I’ve spent hours shining that damn necklace!”
“It’s not glittering right. Why isn’t it glittering right?!”
⭑ He loves horseback riding. Arthur LOVES showing off, and looking like he knows exactly what he’s doing.
⭑ All his efforts of looking suave fail. So much so that you can’t stop laughing. So, laughter is a big part of your courtship. Arthur loves your laugh, your smile. The way your eyes light up.
𝑴𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒏
⭑ He’s very thoughtful and likes to woo you with things that are meaningful.
⭑ Merlin will find out your favourite things and surprise you with them.
⭑ He asked you on a date one afternoon after he had been pumped up by Gwaine.
“You can do this Merlin,” Gwaine said while grabbing the sorcerer’s shoulders.
“Yeah, yeah of course I can ... I can do this! No, wait, Gwaine. I can’t-”
⭑ He did though, only because you had overheard the conversation and couldn’t wait for him. So, you walked up behind him, tapped his shoulder, and said ‘‘yes, where are going to go?”
⭑ Merlin will use magic, he definitely will. Making the fireflies glow brighter, the fire burn warmer.
⭑ He loves resting his forehead against yours. Being still with one another, noses touching, hands holding the others’.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑮𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆
⭑ He would flirt with you without shame. Trying to charm you with his best efforts. You would flirt back, not taking anything from it - it was harmless. It didn’t mean anything.
⭑ Until Gwaine couldn’t get you out of his head. And you lived there absolutely rent-free.
⭑ He yearns to be around you. The way your mind works ... he doesn’t know many people like that.
⭑ Gwaine would spend a lot of time with you. Wanting to get to know everything about you. He’d ask questions, probe, poke, wanting to see every side of you.
⭑ He’s very excitable and likes to thrill seek with you.
⭑ Gwaine loves to play fight with you, but also train you to be able to defend yourself. He’s fun-loving and always makes sure you’re having a good time.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒕
⭑ He courts you with grace and the utmost respect. He always makes sure you’re comfortable and well.
⭑ Very protective but in a subtle way - he doesn’t arc up when another guy is looking at you, but is able to diffuse any situation.
⭑ Lots and lots and lots of flowers. New ones everyday. And they aren’t even bouquets; they could be from a garden or in the forest. At one point you felt bad that he was picking them from nature, so he bought seeds and asked for a place to plant them. He then tended to the seeds for weeks, and eventually they started to grow.
⭑ He said “now you can have flowers everyday, for as long as they grow, I will be here.”
⭑ Light touches; moving the hair from your face and gently removing an eyelash from your face.
⭑ He often leaves you needy and wanting more; but he isn’t meaning to tease you. He’s just that soft.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑳𝒆𝒐𝒏
⭑ He courts you through food and good conversation. Either making the food himself, taking you to the markets, or asking the royal cooks to make something special for you.
⭑ Leon loves making you feel content -
“Are you warm enough, my love?”
 “Do you want another slice?”
 “How are you feeling?”
⭑ He may not seek out exciting adventures, but that’s what you like about Leon. He’s grounding and that’s how he caught your heart. You need someone secure, someone safe.
⭑ The first few months into your courtship, he never let the two of you be alone together. He wanted to be traditional. But that didn’t really work because he was so in love with you. Therefore, he would take the food to your door so he could focus on eating, rather than ... you
⭑ He loves being in your company - and courts you by spending quality time with you. Where Gwaine asks questions and listens with focus, your time with Leon would be just ... existing in each other’s presence. Not pushing anything; just letting whatever comes up - comes up.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍
⭑ His intent in courting you is to make you feel wanted. He knows what it’s like to be left out, so Percival makes sure you’re included and desired.
⭑ When he first saw you in the tavern, he didn’t think much of you - it wasn’t until you cut a man off and had to practically throw him out that he was enamored with you.
⭑ Percival loves PDA, he doesn’t have a problem with it at all. He wants to hold your hand, kiss your neck, and have you in his lap.
⭑ He’s actually a good singer and will hum things when you’re together without knowing it.
⭑ Likes to dance with you - whether that’s inside, around people, or outside, underneath the moon
⭑ He isn’t overly romantic, because he’s somewhat clueless in these matters. But he does his best to show his feelings through action.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑬𝒍𝒚𝒂𝒏
⭑ He likes making you feel safe. Throughout your courtship, he always went the extra mile. Walking you to your front door (literally, he’ll wait until you’ve gone in. But he never goes inside until you invite him.)
⭑ Elyan wants to show you new things; share new experiences with you. Going on adventures and creating memories.
⭑ He’ll call in after his watch and make sure you’re okay.
⭑ If you need any errands done but don’t want to do them - he’s your man
⭑ Wants you to know that if you have any problems, he’ll fix them. No matter what they are. There’s a leak? He’ll patch it up, you’re fighting with your sister? He’ll sit and let you vent.
⭑ Elyan would make you feel less alone in this huge world. He knows how it feel to be alone, and never wants that for you.

The knights facing off against a rogue sorcerer
Sorcerer: (monologuing) and I shall avenge my family for all the damage-!
Merlin: *sneaks up behind them and hits them around the head with a tree branch*
Sorcerer: *drops unconscious*
Knights: Merlin! (A mix of proud and shocked)
Merlin: what? They were monologuing.
Knights: …
Merlin, sounding like someone who’s seen some shit: Never let them monologue. That’s when they get to you.

merlin au where merlin makes friendship bracelets for everyone he likes but plot twist he’s merlin and he likes everyone like come on he adopts ppl like 2 minutes into meeting them
like
obviously gwen has one - one of the first if not the first he made in camelot - yellow and purple
and gaius too but his is one merlin made when he was a kid - its really old so the colors are faded but its made of all the thread merlin could find and its kinda ugly but he loves it anyway cuz he’s a fucking sap
and then during some attack on camelot sir leon pulled him back because its his fucking job but merlins like <3 omg a new friend and leons like uhhhh but he never takes it off
lancelot leaves camelot with honor and a yellow bracelet and a new best friend <3
even the great dragon has one but its less of a bracelet and more of a ring
a bunch of the servants have one - almost everyone in the kitchen (they give merlin extra food so he’ll make one) the guards outside gaius's door (which is lowkey why they never report the magic because they and merlin are besties)
morgana wears it with her ridiculously fine and expensive jewelry
sometimes visiting nobles leave with one
a bunch of shop owners have one
because merlin’s literally besties with everyone
but who doesn’t have one?
arthur
not because merlin doesn’t like him (though he’ll admit (only to himself) that perhaps he doesn’t want to be just friends with arthur) but because merlin simply doesn’t think he’d like one
on the other hand arthur’s seething with rage and jealously and when leon showed up with one arthur may have been a little more vicious in training
when one of the other knights gets one he gets vicious in training every training session since then
morgana knows and makes sure to flash her bracelet in front of his face
on the other hand merlin knows that arthur wouldnt like one but merlin still adores him so mayhaps he sews in a little pattern on the inside of arthur’s shirts that he’s mending where no one will notice but merlin will see him wear the shirt and think he’s wearing merlin’s friendship :)
yeah

Do you have one where the serving staff/guards know of Merlin’s magic, but they choose to keep it a secret because he helps them out a lot (since he cheats when no one is looking, they leave him alone for bigger tasks so they can just get things done faster)? (And that the atmosphere somehow just got…better when he started working there, even if the King is still a murder-bitch?)
Like Merlin, doesn’t know that they know. Nobles and visitors aren’t allowed to know and the staff help shield him/explain it away.
(Headcanon Masterlist) (Full Masterlist)
OK SO!!!
I'm gonna write this as a set of  rough headcanons as opposed to a fic, because I'm really struggling motivation wise at the moment, and this particular ask really spoke to me when I looked through my messages :D
It takes Gwen and George (as important, smart, and the-only-other-servants-whose-names-we-know) all of a week to figure out Merlin has magic. It takes the Cook two, it takes the Housekeeper a month and a half, and it takes the Steward just shy of six months. Yeah. Merlin isn't very good at being subtle. The former First Knight, Leon's grumpy, stick-in-the-mud-and-also-up-his-arse predecessor, never finds out (much to the effort of everyone), but Leon of course has it all lined up in his head an hour after he takes over the role. He'd suspected before then, but hadn't really had much to do with Merlin anyway until he'd taken on the job.
Anyway. All of this just means that Merlin has no idea how easy his life is in comparison to what it could have been if he's actually managed to keep his secret, well, secret.
Most of the knights don't know, but a few do. With the guards, it's the other way round. Most of them know, a few specific ones don't. Look, as much as a lot of people know, and it sounds like chaos, it's actually very well controlled. Well, it isn't at first. Merlin is very lucky that the first few people to find out are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, because it's those first few that carefully control where and when the secret goes.
ANYWAY. And I actually mean it this time. A lot of people know and Merlin has NO fucking clue.
The whole thing goes unsaid, and bar a few of the main crew (the aforementioned Gwen, George, Cook, Housekeeper, Steward, and later on, Leon) no one knows exactly who else knows. So there's a lot of awkward shuffling and suspecting side eyes as they try and tiptoe around it all. None of the guards that don't know are EVER put to duty outside Arthur's chambers, and they're kept away from places Merlin frequents as much as possible (the armoury, the stables, the physician's chambers, the washer rooms, etc) just because Merlin has no spatial awareness and never realises when there’s a guard right next to him/just around the corner.
Oddly enough, other than Leon and Lancelot, none of the main knights are in the know, with everyone’s reasoning being that... they’re the most loyal to The King. And as much as Leon and Gwen can vouch for them, they don’t like actively telling people about the magic, they just... corral people if they find out accidentally. Lancelot, despite knowing about the magic, also has no idea about this whole thing, but everyone else knows that he knows. It’s stupid. It’s complicated. But Gwen, Leon, and George are in too deep now to backtrack so... they just carry on going.
So yeah. They cover for him all the time. At any given night there will be at least one knight or guard in the tavern, so whenever Arthur kicks up a fuss about how “Merlin can’t have been at the tavern again.” they’ll start spreading rumours about how whip smart Merlin is at poker, because he won against Halbrand, Remus, Gregor, and Flint last night. When they know Merlin has snuck out to deal with something, they’ll make sure someone in-the-know is posted on the outer city walls, so they can send word when Merlin is sneaking back in. This just means they can clear the main courtyard and route to the Physician’s Chambers of anyone so that Merlin can still think no one noticed him coming and going.
After a few years, people notice that there are two days a year, later on three, that Merlin does actually disappear to the tavern for. It took Leon a little while to figure out, and he still isn’t entirely sure he’s right, but the first one falls on the day that Merlin had to leave Camelot to protect his home from ransackers. Gwen had mentioned one of his friends had died, and the word is spread to make sure Merlin is left alone that day. The second... he isn’t sure, to be honest. He knows it falls around the week that the beast had appeared, bought by the bounty hunter, but he’s not sure if that’s relevant. He thinks maybe the beast must have killed one of Merlin’s friends, and again, the word is spread. The third is easy. The third falls around the day the dragon had attacked. Leon himself, as well as many of the knights and guards, head tot eh tavern that week. He finds it odd though, that Merlin seems to separate himself from the memorials, from the drinking songs, from those that gather in mourning, almost like he’s mourning something else entirely. But again, Leon doesn’t question it, and the word is spread.
When he’s noticeably injured, Gwen, George, the Housekeeper, and the Steward will randomly have free days/extra servants available to help out, to lessen his workload. When he’s exhausted, the Steward and Leon will reorganise things so Arthur doesn’t have anything important on in the morning, and Merlin can sleep in. I guess it’s just lots of stuff like that, small things, that Merlin could probably live without but... well, these people love and respect him so much, why would they leave him to suffer alone?? It’s not just the fact that Merlin protects the Kingdom with magic, after all, it’s the fact that he’s so lovely, to everyone. He helps treat the guards’/knights’ injuries without judgment, he’ll cover for people when they’re sick, he’ll do other people’s workloads just to be kind. So yeah, they look after him. Not just because he’s a vigilante or whatever, but because he’s Merlin.
I just... they look out for him, ya know?? And maybe he finds out, in which case he’s very embarrassed that so many people knew about it. Or maybe he doesn’t know, maybe he never knows, and all those people continue to protect him from behind the scenes, the same way he protects Camelot. Who knows.
~
I hope you enjoyed this, anon! I love you all so much, thank you for being patient with me!!!

started writing my fic thinking of Merthur angst and fluff
finished my fic crying about Leon’s survivors guilt after years of leading the Knights, Gwaine’s escapism of turning to jokes to hide emotions, Mordreds need to prove himself, Lancelot need to fight for those he loves, Elyan’s desire to protect those he loves and Percival’s heart that beats just a little bit harder for those he can finally consider family
