So. I love this. The way Yuri snickers at Flynn showing his real self. The way he, without hesitation, says "yeah" to the idea that he would die in Flynn's place.

But the most important part of this entire thing, which was changed in the dub, is how Yuri specifically jokes that Flynn is trying to abandon him, and Flynn returns and tells Don he had no intention of abandoning Yuri.

Yuri does not hear this. Flynn knows that. But Flynn uses the exact same term Yuri used earlier, as if it's his answer to Yuri and saying no, I would never abandon you.

For reference:

Personally I just... love the weight of it. How Flynn will say something about Yuri that Yuri won't hear, but he still speaks it out into existence because it's how he really feels.

Just because Yuri won't hear it doesn't mean he won't say it, and in a way that's even more powerful. He's not looking for the credit of saying it. He's not looking to be recognized for saying it. He's not only expressing how he feels about Yuri somewhere that Yuri himself will hear him.

They're just his real, honest feelings, and he'll admit them even if Yuri's not within earshot.

At this point, he was panicking, he just grabbed essential things and of course little gift he prepared for you, and ran out of his house.

When he arrives, you were just sitting on a bench with head in your hands, obviously disappointed and it was obvious he hurt your feelings. Seeing that, he immidietly rushed to you and wrapped his arms around you and caressing your back.

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... It won't happen again, I promise..."

He could only wrap his arms around you tighter and he tried fighting the tears himself, realization of him driving you to this point finally hitting him. But now, he'll do his best to catch up for his mistake and make this date one to remember.

The first kiss Mikey just stared at you in shock. The second kiss he started blushing a lot. And by the third kiss he was the on basically suffocating you with a hug and placing kisses all over your face and neck.

Believe it or not Mikey's favorite time consists of him cuddling you and falling asleep, because he feels at peace in your presence, like all of his problems are gone.

You're always his priority no matter what, whenever he visits he always makes sure to bring a few gifts. Whenever you vist he interupts whatever meet up they had, sits you on his lap and cuddles until you have to leave. Yes everyone is forced to watch the sweet couple act.

Mikey sometimes says things that seem strange. Like confessing how he WILL kill anyone who tries to take you away, yet you just happily giggle and cup his face.

random but have you thought abt gaming and hutao?

funny story anon, when I was writing ga-ming's fake voicelines and needed to give him more characters to talk about, I was considering adding a hu tao voiceline, but decided against it because I didn't really see a reason for them to meet (besides via friends (new liyue 6ang addition?!?!?!)). lowkey I now feel validated bc they don't have any in-game voicelines abt each other, but this would be a very boring ask if it just stopped here lol.

there's something to be said about gaming and hu tao's family baggage vs their cheerful external demeanor vs both doing a job that isn't super well received (?) by people in liyue harbor. but hu tao leans into her eccentricities a lot more while gaming is on the 'likeable by everyone' grind LOL also the dad similarities might increase if we ever get 76th funeral parlor director lore: hu tao's parents have been conspicuously missing forever, where did genshin put them? an interesting possibility would be if the 76th somehow split off from the family trade and subsequently got wiped from the family tree bc of ideological diffs (like ht's beef with baizhu), which could increase gaming and hu tao's possible shared father(?) troubles. but besides that I feel like there's not too much similarity there. *addendum: imo, hu tao has mostly moved on from her grief over her grandfather's death, and she doesn't have any regrets about the state of their relationship when he passed away, since they were pretty close and never on bad terms. My personal hc is that she still has some things she wished she said, ie. sincere thoughts and feelings from the heart that she usually avoids talking about (she would say "nice speech, but that kind of killed the mood" if someone made one of those anime protag power of friendship monologues). in my head, her grandpa taught her everything about death and funeral customs, played with her/listened to her poetry, pretended to go along w her pranks, and was in general a very loving person, but I don't think hu tao ever explicitly told him "I love you" before he died. she canonically tried to find him right after he passed away but knew that he wouldn't be there. by now i think she's made peace with his death, but still has a certain wistfulness about things she didn't think of saying. and then on the flip side, if ga-ming could see his mom again, he'd probably spend a whole day talking to her i think. he's also not someone to get drunk on grief or regrets, but i don't think he's quite gotten over it completely, and his rocky relationship with his father (before lantern rite 2024) makes this more emotional idk. not sure where I'm going with this, but maybe hu tao would be able to talk him through a bit of this messiness and urge him to simply continue with his own life. or show him that his mother was not at the border, perhaps never lingered there, because she didnt think there was any unfinished business with him or his father that she needed to worry about. the annoying thing about death is that even if the dead person was free of regrets, those who are still living will still miss them. maybe both gaming and hu tao would be able to understand that and/or sympathize with it. or maybe they'd just be silly together who knows, up to you

I really wanna say smth abt the "it's ooc" thing in fanfic/fanarts is that: I DON'T CARE!!! IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!!!!

like, it's great when a fic/fanart gets to be exactly how i like it, or i see it and go "wow that's totally them!" But if it isn't, it doesn't reduce the possibility for it to be amazing and for me to be interested in what my favorites are doing this time.

And there's nothing wrong with wanting to be as accurate as possible, or even if it turns out that you have a strict preference. But that's what we do. We move on to other things that make us happy.

I think some people forget that if they don't like something, they have the freedom to just move from it and call it a day.

But nooooo! Let's complain to the fic writer about how they hate the story because we have nothing better to do.

Someone said something that stuck out to me under a video that is totally different from this topic, but I feel like it applies to anything.

"People who hate themselves do hate you for this reason. They hate you because you're not unhappy with yourself."

Simply, people hate that you're having fun and therefore hate you for it.

Let's be honest, why would anybody actually nitpick at the writer for a character being OOC in a FANFICTION?! What if the fic is an AU of sorts? Well, if it's an AU, I suspect that the characters wouldn't be the same as they are in canon.

What if that was on purpose? I don't know about y'all, but many of times I have crossed fics that the writer has tagged with "character is a bad friend" or "nice character", tags like that. Tags that mean the character is going to be different from how they are in canon.

If I don't like it? Guess what?

Scroll to the next one! It is so simple! So effortless!

I honestly don't mind OOCness because it's like "what if this character was this way". I like seeing different styles from writers and artists. You have all these flavors to indulge in and try it and it's a fun experience. Even if I don't like it, I'm not going to harass that person. I just didn't like it, not my taste, that's more on me because that person is not obligated to accommodate to my taste.

It's their vision.

I feel like a lot of people nowadays just complain about everything. Be it about a character being OOC to a ship to a headcanon and the target who receives this hostility are people who just want to have a good time.

They never bother anyone, they don't go around causing havoc. They're just writing their fics and having fun.

But then some asshole decides to go "you wrote this character too OOC, *insert a slur/harmful bait*".

And people wonder why less fic writers are posting, why less artists are posting.

Because you do shit like this, asshole. Just because you're miserable doesn't mean you have to choose something so minor just so you have the "excuse" to be a bitch to someone.

I would like to humbly suggest the Gwaine/Lancelot rarepair. I just think they’d make a good friendly rivalry situationship over who would be Merlin’s favourite knight/best friend or over who would be the knight second in command under Arthur (the answer is obviously Leon for that one but Leon just looks like an old man to them)

Also their chaotic energies would fit & enable each other rly well I think. Like Gwaine trying to get Lance drunk over in the tavern so that he lets loose & gets to see the chaotic side in him. YES. I haven't read any actual Gwaine/Lancelot fic but they'd make a great pairing.

They are Merlin's two favourite knights! They have such different temperaments but they have the same values! They care about the same things and the same people.

And yeah, Gwaine was a nobleman actually, but he's been acting for a commoner for so long that it hardly matters. (Actually he was a noble disguised as a commoner, while Lancelot was a commoner trying to pass himself off as a noble... THE PARALLELS BE PARALLELING.)

And Gwaine would just be effortlessly joking abt Arthur & not let it sour his loyalty, and Lance could learn that it is perfectly fine & normal to not have noble & honourable knightly thoughts 24/7.

I LOVE THIS. YES! He holds himself to such impossibly high standards, someone needs to tell him not to be so hard on himself 😭😭😭

-Rosabella first hand witnessed Darling go into a panic when she locked their dorm room's door for the first time, Darling took out a sword and swung it across the door going "I WILL NOT BE LOCKED INSIDE THIS TOWER ANYMORE!"

-After that, Rosabella stopped locking the doors, and instead asked one of her animal friends to guard it on the other side

-Dexter also asked Hunter to not lock their dorm room door, Hunter asked why, but he shrugged it off after seeing the uneasy look Dex had

-Daring is honestly fully and painfully aware about his father's neglect towards his other siblings, and he did try to make it up to them anyway he can, but sometimes his habit of looking into a mirror gets in the way

-When they were young, like I wanna say 12 maybe, since Darling was always locked in the highest tower, and Daring was being groomed by their father, Dexter would try to get to Darling. Climbing up Grimm knows how many sets of stairs just to get to his sister

-He would try and break the door, Darling would too, which resulted in both their hands being scarred as fuck

-Thats how Darling learned how to punch, really, but with Dex, it came with a price and his hands would often tremble after hours upon hours of trying to break the wooden door that's keeping him from seeing his sister

-Dex would sometimes sleep in the tower too, leaning in on the door while he and Darling share stories, or rather, he tells her stories and promises her one day he's going to get her out of the tower

-Darling would lean in close, it's always nice to have company in the tower, but she misses her brothers, she misses Dexter the most, and she wanted to get out too

-Sometimes when their attempts on breaking the door fails, Darling could hear Dexter cry his heart out as he slams his fists on the door

-When King and Queen Charming found out about what Dexter did, they forbade him for every seeing his sister and locked Darling in a higher tower and had guards at the bottom of it so Dexter wouldn't sneak in again

-And hey, y'know, it's been years and finally the twins are together again, but that experience really took a toll on both of them

-Now they always try to look after the other, even Daring's looking after them now

-Daring promised he'd be a better brother now, he's always in their business and going on how proud he is of them, and it'd make him happy seeing them accept the compliment and knowing someone in their family really was proud of them despite it all

-But also, that hurting him because at first the twins didn't even accept it, or maybe they were shocked that he said he was proud of em, and hey, he's no that dense, he knows what shit their parents did, and he always beat himself up for not really standing up for his siblings

-On a lighter note, I wanna say that Daring can still turn to a beast and was starting to like that form too that sometimes he'd stay in that form bc he just can

-And he loves hugging Dex and Darl when he's in that form bc he can really huh both of them at once and hey, he's fluffy, who wouldn't love that hahah

They're responding to my theory as to why a certain trainees was kicked out of Over Me and make some good points! It's all behind the read more.

But remember when Park Gunwook shook Keita's hand at the ep8 ranking ceremony? He shook his hand warmly, with a huge smile on his face, but he didn't HUG him. Now maybe Gunwook just isn't a hugger, but still. I just think Keita isn't quite as "in" with the cool kids clique as he could be. Everyone likes and respects him but I don't sense that bond, that "stay up all night talking, crying on each other's shoulders, telling each other stuff you've never told anyone before" kind of bond. But maybe I'm wrong! I should watch some more of the behind the scenes content -- let me know if there's a specific video that you think I should check out.

And yeah, you'd think for sure they'd want at least one Japanese trainee, but who knows what goes through MNET's single collective brain cell. It's like searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.

buttt abt the threat bit i completely agree. i think the other trainees see him as a threat in a way he doesn’t view anyone else at all. i remember you said smth like “Keita sets a high standard even among the other previously debuted idols on this show” in one of ur posts, and i think this is a contributing factor. Keita simply has less to prove. he knows he’s good enough to be in the group, the judges know, the other trainees know, the viewers know, even people who don’t LIKE him know.

this is why he was so completely unafraid to make a super stacked team for Kill this Love even though he definitely wanted the killing part, and in ep 6 when they chose for the second mission, though they don’t show Keita choosing Zoom, in background shots you can see that Krystian, who he kicked out, was simply standing on the bottom row, closest to the walkway, and that is most likely the reason keita kicked him out.

Oh, I love this kind of close analysis! Nice work. I think Krystian was better suited for Limousine anyway so it worked out.

comparing this line of thinking to Ricky, who kicked Jongwoo out of Love Killa because it meant he would be more likely to get the killing part, to Jiwoong who did the exact same thing to ricky two minutes later, and the differences in their thinking become clear.

Aaaannnd we ended up with an underwhelming performance of Love Killa, so thanks, everyone!

this isn’t me hating on any of them ofc, it’s a good strategy. but it’s a strategy that Keita isn’t using, partially because he is literally just that kind, but also because he doesn’t feel that pressure to prove everything he has the way most of the other trainees do.

Totally agree. It's kind of like what I was saying about how Matthew leads from a place of anxiety, while Keita leads from a place of confidence. It doesn't enter Keita's mind to scheme because he knows he has the goods. I think that this might contribute to his comparative lack of super close, emotionally bound friends -- you bond with people who you feel a connection to, and maybe it's hard for people to feel that connection with someone who doesn't seem to experience the same frustrations and difficulties that they do. But again, maybe I'm wrong.

and yeah, considering that there were two yuehuas on over me team as well, it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that they made a plan to vote out the members they felt would be the biggest threats to them, position-wise, and any friendships made on the show def pale in comparison to years spent training tgt. i just thought it was rlly interesting cause all last week i was curious to see how ppl ended on their new teams (i did get spoiled lol) and after watching and thinking it over, it makes tons of sense. your recaps are always interesting reads, and i look forward to the performance specific ones !!

oh yeah baby kam's peter post made me want to share some of my own thoughts abt him (but also i didn't wanna tack em on in a reblog bc my thoughts r very related to Personal Stuff About Me and i didn't want to make their post my storytime i guess haha)

so like i'm definitely not the type of person to say that nobody should ever like characters who do bad things, or that unhealthy relationships should Never be portrayed in art. so if you like peter or his dynamic with alice, please don't take this as me saying you shouldn't do that.

but like i've been into this series since i was about twelve or maybe even eleven? (long hours largely unsupervised with my best friend at the local library waiting for my mom to finish work) and while i definitely didn't understand healthy relationship dynamics all that much, i still took issue with peter forcing a kiss on alice from the get-go. i'll be honest, that along with his attitude towards her made me hate him right off the bat. these days i definitely think he has interesting and/or comedic potential in some situations, but that particular side of him still freaks me out. obviously. he was my least favorite of alice's potential interests (besides the twins).

BUT something kam brought up in their post kind of clicked with me.

around middle school, i started developing symptoms of ocd (i think triggered by a lot of stressful life events happening in quick and intense succession on top of the usual chaos of middle school). eventually it got on to be actual ocd, which i still deal with to this day. and my biggest trigger has been germs/uncleanliness. i didn't used to have this obsession with contamination, so i'm pretty sure i didn't have it when i first got into nkna. but as time went on i saw more and more of myself in that aspect of peter.

i really didn't want to, since i disliked him so much (not to mention how often ocd or similar traits are either played for jokes in most media or given to eccentric villain types to make them seem more Weird™). but over time it got harder to ignore.

kam brings up that bc of his germophobia, peter doesn't really have much experience in the way of romantic/sexual interactions. and it made me think of myself.

because aside from my tendency to not be able to interact with others all that well, my cleanliness ocd is a big stumbling block in the way of physical intimacy, of ANY kind, but especially romantic/sexual since that tends to be more... involved. and there's the screenshot of peter telling alice smth about how he doesn't mind Her Germs specifically, which is probably something i've said almost word for word to my own partner. they were my first for a lot of things, both because of my anxiety but also because of the germ thing. (side note i love them very much they're so cool and good about My Tendencies lol) and it can be really weird to be in a relationship with someone who has a lot more experience than you sometimes, because it can be easy to worry that you're somehow letting them down (not that i get the sense alice gets out all that much either, but still). but i also know the overwhelming joy and relief that comes with finding someone whose germs you don't mind.

AND IT DRIVES ME CRAZY haha because i still don't really like peter! i think it's funny to bully him but also sometimes he does genuinely anger me. and it's been an odd experience to feel myself become more like him in this very specific way over the years, to relate to some of his fears and such. not to mention, i don't remember his germophobia being played as a joke all that much?

i mean there probably are moments where it is, i wouldn't be surprised, but comparing the way he's treated as opposed to, say, death the kid from soul eater... it feels different. [i could make a whole other post about my feelings on kid but i digress]

he's just a character that i personally have a lot of really complex feelings about, because on the one hand he can be a total scumbag who i hate, but on the other hand he seems to encapsulate certain struggles i've dealt with that i don't see illustrated in media very often. he's really important to me but also i want to kick the shit out of him ^_^

anyway. i don't think i really had A Point to all of this, just wanted to jot down some of my own ideas on him ig

OKAY SO. okay. tbh i'm not completely sure what i like the most but it's probably a combo of the art design/style + gameplay + characters. the art i'd say is incredibly beautiful and unique !!! the designs are really lovely and all (esp as someone who is a big fan of greek mythology which is one factor as to why i love the game so much!) <3 the gameplay is REALLY fun. and good. it's a roguelike game and it actually ties to the game's concept of death and resurrection ?? (underworld stuff. zag is literally the god of rebirth) and it's REALLY good at what it does. very addicting. no run is exactly the same and i personally didn't think i'd be fond of roguelike games but hades just really hits with it !! (a lot of people who don't like roguelike games seem to think this way too). tbh if hades is your kinda game then it genuinely is. sort of. really a Perfect Game ?? story + gameplay + visuals are like the three pillars of it and as far as i personally know all of that is just incredibly good. the protag is likeable, the other characters are likeable, i don't know some of the most important story bits yet but so far it truly is very interesting, each run is connected to the last (such that if you get a different boss, zag actually says smth abt that! it is a very fluid game. if that's properly describing it). LOWKEY EVERYONE IN THE GAME IS HOT. most likely bcs of the artstyle which is really just so nice <3 BUT YEAH i don't really like roguelikes bcs you kinda restart progress right? but hades really feels productive with each run (i even look forward to dying in game!!!!!) and there's so much failure but i don't really feel frustrated. it's a really rewarding game imo and no wonder a lot of people considered it to be their goty of 2020 (and it won a few awards for that too i think) <33 SORRY FOR RAMBLING SO MUCH BUT YEAH .... the game genuinely is just so good. also the voice acting is actually great. i am bad at taking compliments

i'm not terrible at it. i don't particularly indulge in self-deprecating humour. when i do a good thing, i acknowledge it. i know i am intelligent, i know i do my job well, i know i look cute, etc etc. but sometimes... someone will give me a compliment and i will just. get so mad abt how inaccurate it feels. example: i have a pleasant voice. if i were to apply myself, i'd have the potential for radio work or voice acting. my singing voice? it's quite good. i've got range but no passion. one time i had a regular at work, sweet old gentleman, and he said that my speaking voice was so nice that he could tell i could sing like whitney houston....... it's like he wanted so badly to compliment me that he aimed too high and now, well, i just felt insulted. still do, btw! (ms houston i'm so sorry this stupid bitch talked abt you)

or. one time i was working the donations. i was hot and sweaty, in a plain black fit w my hair in a slick low bun. like, i looked normal but i felt gross overall. and my coworker/friend passes by and says, "ray, you're gorgeous." ,,,y'all. i straight up told him to "fuck off!" jabfakjbb what followed was likely the most confusing back and forth of his life, with him defending his stance that he "just wanted to say smth nice" and me chewing his head off abt it. dw i didn't yell at him. i don't yell <3 i was just. cold and short. bc "gorgeous" out of all the words? i'm cosplaying as a hard-at-work, sweaty steve jobs -- don't call me gorgeous, wtf is wrong w you?

recently, my sister and i were discussing breaking bad habits. she said i was getting better at some of mine and i was downplaying it, giving all kinds of excuses as to how it was getting better bc of outside circumstances (not rly) and then my sister just went, "oh my god! would you stop it, we aren't playing compliment ninja!!" and i was like ok weird analogy but i get it lmao

anyway the reason why i thought abt this is cus this new girl at work told me she liked my fit. i forgot what i was wearing so i looked down at myself and i was so unimpressed that for a sec i nearly forgot to say thank you. cus i was abt to argue w her and thought better.

now why do i act like that? well it's a cocktail combination of low self-esteem and impostor syndrome and the unfounded belief that i am convincing ppl that i'm a better person than i actually am. which is so silly bc i am Hot Shit!!! I Am!!! i'm Tha Bomb! i don't need to convince ppl that i'm cool, i just am cool. and i am pretty and on some days i am actually gorgeous. but it's hard to take compliments bc when ppl give it to me i feel like they mean it as a permanent, ever-present state of me and, like, no i am not consistently good or smart or pretty or handsome or cool. i am too much aware of my flaws to take a damn compliment arghhhh and it's one of the reasons why i've never tried being in a relationship, but that's a post for another time.

in conclusion, i will learn to take compliments. ish. and it's fine if i don't "agree" w them, ppl are allowed to experience me thru their own eyes, even in a light that is too bright for mine

-that night, their video call lasted the entire night, w Geeta waiting and making sure Diantha really fell asleep before logging off

•anyways, after that maybe that's when Dia really went to go on her own pkmn journey and she told Geeta abt it, w Geeta saying she's still finishing her classes, but she does have her own team, still not complete tho.

-and Dia told her she's gonna find her team too

-Dia is a battling prodigy, so it's not surprise she really did well w the Gym Challenge, Geeta was really impressed

•Dia became champion when she was around 14, Geeta said she would want to be champion too, but Paldea didn't have an actual League during that time

-w Geeta opening up abt her parents and such, but hey it was fine ig bc somehow she managed to make friends in the academy, and Dia was so happy to hear that

-when Dia opened up abt the stuff that happened to her tho, like what happened to her Carbink and then the stuff w Mom Carnet, man, Geeta just wanted to head to the Carnet Manor and punch Mom Carnet square in the face
