First post, of course I had to do one of the main protags of this au and the ship that kinda started it all - Silvamy, aka the Rose family! (yes all the kids have amy's last name, more on that later.) Lets get into this sweet yet spicy fam. Silver T. Hedgehog

Age: 42

Occupation (Disaster Relief Specialist/ Timestone Guardian)

Extra Notes - still not fully satisfied with silver's older design, I think its because he's supposed to feel out of place amongst the present day sonic cast to really sell the futuristic aspect, i scrolled through a ton of silver au fanart to get inspo because i was stumped and didn't want to just slap some scruff on him and call it a day, especially since he joined the guardian of powerful gems club with blaze and knuckles (still working on the kinks but basically eggman nega survived his entrapment in the chaotic inferno, found out about the timestones and made little big planet the new holding ground for an infantile infrit, slowly working on "raising" it so he can subjugate the past, present and future and accomplish what his forefathers have always lacked - world domination and an another race against time to save the future ensues.) - Silver is now the guardian of the time stones and got an boost in psychic power and I wanted to give him an indicator similar to knuckle's crescent mark or blaze's forehead gem hence the teal markings. He has pulled an captain america and now safely stays in the past with his wife and kids and works similar to the zone cops of the archie comics but way more powerful and freelance. he also helps out with natural disasters like earthquakes or tsunamis thanks to his upgraded psychic powers. To end on an literal fluffy note, his wife and kids love the extra chest fur.

Amy Rose

Age: 40

Occupation: Event Planner/Fitness Trainer (Part-Time)

Extra Notes - pretty happy with amy's design, wanted to do something different from the long-haired cottagecore amys for sonamy fams, not knocking them - they work well for that dynamic but amy has an trio of very unique kids to parent, an time traveling husband and spends her days dealing with picky customers for all sorts of events and still find time to occasionally teach self-defense class and yoga to young women, she needs to be ready at all times. I wanted to go for an more casual and classic feminine nicole watterson vibe (yes, she is hiding muscles under that sweater dress :P.) - kudos to anyone who can get why she has

glasses! I think the half-moon ones really suit her!

Zenia Rose

Age: 15 (Born May 23rd)

Powers: Enhanced durability, Enhanced senses, telekinesis, minor chaos energy manipulation, empathetic sensing/linking/inundation, minor telepathy

My precious cinnamon roll! Zenia was the first serious sonic oc I ever made so I wanted to do her justice! She leans alot more towards her father in terms of appearance, power set and personality being a bit of an socially awkward and humble overthinker but she has her mother’s big heart and very caring and optimistic outlook on life, her parents nurtured her powers and her emotional capability in equal measures and thus she’s pretty well rounded in expressing and understanding the feelings of herself and others, though she tends to get more overbearing with those she’s close with, all round an very feminine girl next door archetype. As far as design goes, I wanted silver’s vibe but amy’s coloring and clear fashion influence with a dash of zenia’s more natural and graceful preferences, so pastels, frills and flower motifs were a go. I’m pretty proud of the idea of how to mimic her dads - lets say, “unique” quill style but make it more feminine so I took the spines at the back of silvers head and moved them to the front to be curtain-like bangs to always give her an demure look and then enlarged and curled his crown of quills and pushed them back behind an headband to give an bump it style, the rest is an homage to those long haired amy designs I mentioned earlier! She looked a lot like amy’s original design when she was an bab. Also her powers are a spring green instead of a teal like her dads because they are weaker and more emotion based. Silver personally made her energy cuffs and couldn’t say no when she asked for an flower design as the insignia.

Auger Rose

Age: 8 (Born October 10th) Powers: Enhanced durability, enhanced senses, tarot card manipulation, minor precognitive ability (boosted when using tarot cards), minor chaos energy manipulation, acrobatics. Auggie! The quintessential middle child and only boy of the family - Auger’s family never makes him feel left out which he appreciates but he appreciates his own solitude and doing things at his own pace more. Silver initially worried that his own former solitary ventures in his once ruined timeline or even the powers hes gained from the time stones themselves has re-emergence in his son especially when auger revealed how he gets flashes of the potential future sometimes but eventually amy and silver realizes thats just how their kiddo is, he’s not trying to be standoffish or emotionless, he just does and expresses things differently and thats okay, auger knows his family loves him and he shows the same affection in his own subdued way, plus his sisters keeps him on his toes and lets him shine when need be. Augers design is an mesh of forgotten concepts or concept arts of amy and silver, I always wanted to bring back amys tarot card abilities since thats what technically got her into the main cast plus they are an fun way to connect silver and amys dynamics and personal goals into their kid. I ripped off the hair design from my first actual sonic oc - Specs the hedgecat and tweaked it a bit to fit more inline with auger’s personality - ie tamed but not stuffy. Augers eyes are perpetually half-lidded for an myriad of reasons and he always has that waist belt with him as it carries his own special deck of tarot cards. Can’t remember how I came up with his fur color, He’s an autumnal baby with his twin sister so I just rolled with that I think. Fun Fact - Auger is a tool with a helical bit for boring holes in wood and is an personal play on the word, Augur which is the ancient roman practice of observing birds to interpret omens! Maple Rose

Age: 8 (Born October 10th) Powers: Enhanced durability, enhanced senses, enhanced strength, piko-piko hammer, acrobatics, spindash, homing attack

The baby of the family, auger’s twin sister and probably the reason amy and silver stopped at three kids. Maple is the wild child of the trio and took all of her parents headstrong traits and cranked them up to 11, having a very strong sense of justice and action taking but oftentimes leaping before she looks. The type of child to constantly be sulking in the principal's office because she fought with another kid who was being a jerk, pouting not because she’s sorry but because she’s getting in trouble for something the bully started. An tomboy playground protector if you will with tons of energy to burn and big dreams to fill. Amy wonders semi-fondly if this is adorable karma for always wondering what a child with sonic will be like as her little girl looks up to the blue blur immensely and wants to be the next big hero of her generation. Amy severely regrets the day she let sonic teach maple how to spindash (fun fact - she’s the only one of her siblings who can do it successfully!) and both her and silver are still trying to figure out how to explain their decorated history with sonic without the girl jumping to fantastical conclusions, this coupled with the fact maple carries her mothers legacy of the piko piko hammer and well…knee pads, helmets and bandages are always running out at the rose household with maple playing hero. All in all however, Maple is an loyal friend and while she can be pushy at times, tell her to back off and she will, having two more soft spoken siblings has certainly helped tame her more out there ideas and tendencies. Design wise - maples coloring was to complement her brothers but I headcanon amy’s father as being an red hedgehog so took that and mixed it with silvers darker hue to make that maple sap color work and I takes cue from the classic rough and tumble troublemaker kids of old cartoons, tooth knocked out and everything as well as using silvers unique quill shape to have the excuse to emulate maple leaves for her hair, always has some form of bandage or dirt on her no matter how many times her mothers tries to keep her clean.

Modern Amy does have the flanderizations unlike Classic and Boom, but THIS Amy had most of the best moments too. Here’s what Modern has canonically under her belt:

SA1 she saw the bigger picture involving Gamma, she pointed out that love isn’t part of robot’s’ programming and they’re missing something good.

Also in SA1 she stepped up to Sonic from destroying Gamma; stepping up to your crush especially when you haven’t won their heart yet is harder than we think. When liking someone it’s normal to try being on the best terms with them. If they’re doing something that rubs you the wrong way that could taint those terms. (Ofc it’s the right thing to step up regardless)

Her moment with Shadow from SA2. It has been discussed many times why it’s so good but I’ll at least put down this: Amy KNOWS there’s shitty people and bad things but she also sympathizes for others and decides to see the good anyway. It’s waaaay easier to fall into negativity and despair when things get bad. This moment is somewhat similar to the story Pandora’s Box when all the bad stuff flew out but one thing within that seems so tiny but is powerful which was hope. Deciding to see the good is like that hope.

Heroes has been seen as this as one of Amy’s more infamous portrayals but really? Was her crush for Sonic executed the best? Depends on the person, but not the worst. Still, she stayed with her team until they reached their goal. Sure she knew doing that will lead her to Sonic but once again, it’s not bad. Why isn’t anyone complaining about the fact the Chaotix, Rouge, Sonic, Shadow were picking fights too? WTFH…

In Battle, another portrayal and one I actually think isn’t so good, or part of it. (Girl, starving yourself thinking Sonic will like you if you’re skinny? Really? If Sonic has issues then that’s his issue not yours!) However, she helped Emerl with his skills. She was pretty much like everyone else but yet none of them get pointed out for their portrayals.

Riders is sorta known for the bad portrayal between her and Sonic but really it wasn’t bad (the voice direction like tone of voice was different between the English and Japanese, the ladder being more accurate to the characters) until the very end of Heroes story which was when Sonic blew her away along with Eggman. Can’t we be in her shoes for a moment? If someone, one of your friends SonAmy or not they are friends didn’t consider your safety especially like THAT would you be happy? Don’t think so. It’s valid to be pissed. Ofc you should point it out.

06 might’ve been (technically) erased but it still shows Amy’s positive side. If it were to happen again and not be erased there’s little to no doubt that Amy would do the same thing. Like in SA1 she saw the bigger picture by putting aside her crush for Sonic and saving the world. One of things it highlighted was her loyalty. This did show in Heroes too, if she wasn’t loyal she would’ve ditched Cream and Big. People can say all they want about Amy choosing Sonic over the world; the other option is to BETRAY her friend who she’s known for a long time and be like, “Hey, Sonic, my friend who I just met Silver who says you’ll destroy the world so I’m siding with him.” THAT would be bad. (Though in Silver’s defense it was from a valid sense and didn’t know who Sonic was but that’s not the focus right now. Amy is brave for stepping up to Silver who clearly outclassed her in skills) Can we also point out that Rouge and Omega did the same thing yet nobody complained about that? Even if it was worded differently, there’s still a sense of hypocrisy.

Rush had Amy tell Blaze, who was very closed off, about the idea that having friends is truly uplifting. Heck Blaze was even intrigued and had a slight smile because of Amy’s upbeat vibe.

Unleashed highlighted Amy to be in no way shallow when it comes to her crush with Sonic: she states to Sonic that no matter what, he’s still her Sonic. How sweet and endearing is that? She even planned to throw a party for him. Clearly she was trying to uplift his spirit. Sonic wasn’t going through a good time, externally and internally. When all hope seemed lost she openly said that Sonic WILL succeed. Also highlighting her faith, another powerful thing. She had faith in previous games too, like having faith that Sonic will listen to her to not destroy Gamma, faith in the good of humanity in SA2, and as mentioned earlier her faith that in 06 Sonic would never destroy the world but save it.

All of the examples above are from the time era of her “obsessive” days that detractors like use to prove that she’s just a “stalker/yandere/etc”.

I will admit that things like Sonic X didn’t do her justice during that era. Though that is partly thanks to the shit English dub and SOA.

Post 2010 hasn’t really been too great but even in Lost World she told Sonic to save the world, believing there’s a chance even though she felt for sure she wasn’t going to be alive for it. She did say it was too late but it felt like she was referring to the latter, not her having a lack of faith. In Forces she was part of the Resistance. Like previous titles she did her part. Minus a few games, she was always an active participant, even in a game like the Black Knight while even it was not exactly the Amy Sonic knew, Nimue was still a counterpart. Like in the Secret Rings with Ali Babba!Tails and Sinbad!Knuckles there was a connection to Sonic’s POV. Frontiers has been pointed with its faults especially with storytelling (seriously previous games, even the most beloved ones, had this issue too) but even then the desire of Amy wanting to help, like she always has, was there.

Modern Amy has proven to be a brave, positive, uplifting, helpful, kind, and a non shallow girl who definitely cares about Sonic’s wellbeing. If having those qualities is STILL viewed as the worst portrayal of the character… 🤦🏻‍♀️

P.S.: This post sprouted from seeing comments upholding Classic Amy(from the latest news) and a few for Boom while downplaying Modern Amy. Heck someone literally commented “Classic Amy over Insamy any day.” Insamy means Insane Amy Seriously? It’s cool to see Amy getting love but some people forget that Classic Amy is a younger Modern Amy, soooooo they’re really shitting on the one they “really” like?

So, there's this blogger lady who used to be a pretty major voice in the Spanish SonAmy community for at least a decade, and yesterday she posted a new entry about Kishimoto's tweet on SonAmy and the fandom reaction it attracted.

Content warning: I'm gonna discuss some very archaic, homophobic things said in that article.

And so far so good but I started noticing she was getting a bit too aggressive with some tweets and taking Sonic Twitter's daily rancid takes way too seriously, as if it was her first interaction with that part of the fandom. She went out of her way to grab some tweets, debunk them and publicly shame haters. Ok, I guess.

And then, out of nowhere, she went into a tangent about Sonic's canon sexuality and... like... she starts saying a bunch of biphobic shit??? Like, of all things to get mad about Sonic Twitter, she decided to lash out against fans writing about Sonic being bisexual, and she gets very defensive saying "Sonic has been canonically straight since the beginning" and some wacky shit like "if you think Sonic and Knuckles were flirting in Frontiers you should go to therapy because that's a very toxic relationship, and if that's what homosexual love language looks like, then I'm happy to be straight". I'm not fucking kidding you.

And I'm sitting here legit confused because I didn't know where the fuck that came from? Or the fact it was very unnecessary and homophobic on her part to say all of that? Like, what the actual fuck?

The article ends with her writing about Western canon fucking everything up and SonAmy's current canonical status, which is fine but nothing we haven't discussed in the past in the SonAmy fandom. And the whole point of the article was to discuss SonAmy as a canon thing, not to go after bisexual Sonic headcanons! That tangent was fucking horrible.

Tbh I used to look up to that woman because back in the day her blog used to be a shining beacon of light in the Spanish fandom, but man, this was a very rude awakening. I stopped reading her years ago when I began writing my own articles and researching the dynamic on my own terms, and to see her not only repeat points we discussed 5 years ago, but to also fully display her bigotry in this way... damn, what a letdown.

I love SonAmy, it's been my OTP for almost 20 years. I love SonAmy in every way, regardless of canon, gender or sexuality they may be represented. Fuck bigots, homophobes and transphobes in our community. I won't tolerate this shit even if we share a common ship. It is not the way to discuss SonAmy, and that article will certainly not help us at all in the fandom.

Also, as a bisexual myself, the fact I'm the one being told to "go to therapy" for engaging in some fun lighthearted SonKnux shipping stuff instead of the adult woman making a whole scene out of people shipping whatever the fuck they want and rambling about how proud she is to be heterosexual is very amusing to me.

If the thing that triggered this fandom figure so much was people sharing bi!Sonic fanart and headcanons on Twitter, instead of the fact some fans weaponize other ships to constantly attack, harass and "debunk" SonAmy fans, I think the one who has a big problem here is her.

Don't even tell her about transfem!Sonic fanart and mods, she might have a meltdown.

All you ever do is ignore the obvious and just flat out insult people who were never in the wrong with a dumb meme. (I mean, memes are funny, but not your's)

People have different opinions on comics and the games and that's okay. You can't just be a hardass to Sonic fans who like media or characters you don't like.

Like, I follow people who don't like Sonamy but do I bash on them because of that? Uhhh, no. I don't. Because I respect other people's different opinions, despite the fact it's not like mine.

You, however, do not. And that is sad.

Also?? I am convinced you are homophobic, because I just noticed you didn't bring up the fact Tangle and Whisper are a thing now. Knowing you, I should've known that that was the case.

Sorry for being honest, I guess, but you're probably the most butthurt person in this hellsite. I didn't make my blog just to see your dumb posts about you criticising fans and people who work at SEGA who are doing their job.

If your life is based on constantly ignoring valid points or looking at the negative side of things in the fandom or being snarky and rude to people who just simply disagree with you, there's a good reason why a lot of people block you.

I hate to disappoint you, but unfortunately, you're an asshole.

Through It All: A Sonamy Story - Chapter 14: “Together We Fight”

Sonic and Amy were ready for whatever Eggman's new robot could throw at them. They stood side by side, their eyes locked onto the massive machine in front of them. Eggman's robot was unlike anything they had seen before, with a sleek, metallic red exterior and a multitude of concealed weapons. Sonic knew this was going to be a tough fight, but he had faith in his abilities and his friends. "Let's do this, Ames," Sonic said, his voice filled with determination. Amy nodded, her eyes focused on the task at hand. "Right behind you, Sonic."

Sonic charged towards the robot, dodging the barrage of missiles and lasers that were fired in his direction. He managed to land a few hits, but it seemed like he was barely scratching the surface of the robot's defenses. The only thing he could damage was the robot’s paint job. Eggman laughed maniacally from within his machine, taunting Sonic as he tried to take it down. "You can't win this fight. I am piloting the perfect machine, and you are a mere rat!" The hand of Eggman's mech shoved forwards, catching Sonic out of the air. Sonic was trapped in the grip of the robot's hand, unable to move or escape. “I’m not a rat!” he said, out of breath. He struggled against the metal fingers, trying to break free, but it was no use. Eggman's robot was just too strong. "There's no chance to escape. This robot has been perfectly designed to defeat you!" Eggman gloated.

Sonic's friends watched in horror as Sonic was lifted into the air, his body held captive by the mechanical fingers. Sonic gave a confident, reassuring look towards his friends. "Oh sure, it may beat me...but it's probably not going to beat her." Eggman looked down, seeing Amy fuming as she walked. "Unhand Sonic, or else." Eggman burst into laughter. "Or else what! You’re going to give me my horoscope?" "THIS!!!" Amy shouted as she charged towards the robot. She leaped towards the machine, her Piko Piko Hammer at the ready. She delivered a powerful swing towards the arm holding Sonic, severing it. The arm holding Sonic fell to the ground, and Sonic was finally free. “How the-!” As he fell, he finished what he was saying to Eggman before he was grabbed. “I’m a hedgehog.”

He landed safely on the ground, while Amy landed gracefully next to him. Sonic grinned at Amy, brushing dust off the shirt he was wearing. "Thanks. Now, are you okay?" "I'm pretty good." Amy responded. "Glad to hear that. What about you, Tails?" "Doing okay." Tails said. "Good. Now, Team Heroes, ... Let's do it, to it!" The three of them, along with Amy's friends and the Chaotix, charged towards Eggman's robot, determined to take it down. They worked together, coordinating their attacks and using their unique abilities to their advantage.

Tails weaved through the chaos in his plane, strategically launching a barrage of bombs and missiles at the robot. Big, Vector, and Mighty took turns delivering powerful blows, their fists and claws relentlessly assaulting the robot's defenses. Charmy, Espio, and Cream's nimble maneuvers and lightning-fast attacks kept the robot off balance. Sticks, Ray, and Gemerl focused on rescuing civilians, ensuring their safety amidst the chaos. Together, they complemented Sonic and Amy's efforts to dismantle the robot.Sonic and Amy worked together to deliver powerful blows to the robot's exterior, trying to find weak spots. They could see that their attacks were starting to make a difference, as the robot began to falter and slow down. Eggman grew increasingly frustrated with each hit, his plans of finally defeating Sonic slowly slipping away. "This can't be happening!" he screamed from within his machine. "I won't let you defeat me!" Eggman activated the robot's self-destruct sequence, hoping to take out Sonic and his friends in the process. Sonic and Amy looked at each other, determination in their eyes. "We can't let him get away with this," Sonic said. "Let's finish this once and for all!" Amy nodded, gripping her hammer tightly. Sonic and Amy charged towards the robot, aiming for the cockpit where Eggman was piloting it. Eggman tried to fend them off with the robot's remaining weapons, but it was no use. Sonic and Amy managed to land a final blow, shattering the cockpit and causing the robot to explode. Sonic and Amy stood above Eggman in the remains of his mech. "No! No! This can't be! I was more than capable of finally killing you! I had countermeasures for all of your abilities! EVERY! SINGLE! ONE! I had prepared for ANYTHING! ANYTHING!" "Yeah, but you didn't account or prepare for anyone but Sonic." Amy said. "I'm not Earth's only hero, after all. If, for some reason, I can't beat you single-handedly..." Sonic stared at Amy for a split second. "Then me and my friends certainly can!" Eggman called down the Eggmobile, crying and screaming as he made his escape. "I HATE THOSE HEDGEHOGS!!!" Sonic and Amy turned to each other, relief and happiness flooding through them. They shared a smile, realizing that they had once again saved the day. "Great job, Ames. Sorry if I or the date didn’t live up to your expectations." Sonic said, giving her a thumbs up. "It was better than I would’ve ever expected, Sonic." Amy replied, a blush rising on her cheeks. "We make a pretty good team, don't we?" Sonic grinned. "The best." Amy giggled, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. They turned to their friends, who were all celebrating their victory together. They had all played a vital role in taking down Eggman's robot, and they were proud of what they had accomplished. "We did it!" Tails shouted, holding up a fist in triumph. "Yeah, we did!" Cream said, smiling widely. "I'm just glad everyone's safe," Sticks chimed in, scanning the area for any signs of danger. "We couldn't have done it without all of you," Vector said, looking around at the group. "Everyone played a part in taking down that machine." Sonic and Amy looked at each other, feeling grateful for the friends they had by their side. They knew that they could always count on each other, and that they were stronger together. "This one deserves a celebration!" Sonic shouted out. “I know a great place.” Amy said.

I'm so sick off ppl saying to #Read Another Book because NO! I will not read another book when the topic in question is probably my third or fourth favorite game franchise. If the LoZ Manga or Pokémon Manga were to come out with absolute bullshit writing I would criticize them just as hard, whne KH3 came out and disappointed everyone the Fandom roared in protest, when JK Rowling turned out to be a shifty as hell bitch more than a few people started to rightfully criticizing her work. The Sonic Fandom may be able to say that but that only works if the book in question isn't officially representing the mainline games as a direct sequel to the events of Forces. It only works if there is an alternative within the same franchise to go to, which there isn't! If someone cares at all about this 30 plus year franchise they wouldn't give the weak ass #Read Another Book as a defense. GOD it's like the fucking Sonamy vs. SONALLY debate again!!!

It's such a dumb way to try and brush-off critique.

A ship I have with said character: Just one? I'll give you three: Sonuckles because they're funny together, Knuxouge because it's a classic, and Knuxamy because they're the Power Duo :P (my boy gets around)

A BROTP I have with said character: I also like his friendship with Sonic and his potential friendship with Amy lmao, but an underrated one is of course the one he has with Tails ^^ big (awkward) bro and lil bro!

A NOTP I have with said character: Can't think of anything

A random headcanon: To destress, and when he has the time, Knuckles goes to one of Eggman's many junkyard/broken flying bases and starts to smash stuff. Flying Battery is the most convenient target of course :P

General Opinion over said character: Knuckles kind of feels stuck in Sonic and Tails' shadow, mostly because, unlike his friends, he was victim of bad writing in the 2000s and then never had a strong chance to recover in the 2010s. I like him well enough, but he needs a more consistent streak of good portrayals. Thankfully, he's my favorite character in Frontiers, so for now we're doing well :P

I understand where people are coming from when they say they don't like Amy's development on her crush on Sonic. Like if you listen to the question where they have to compliment Sonic, when Tails teases her, she gets very defensive (like Sonic did on the sonamy Q in takeover 4). Because like yeah she's ambiguously older now, but older ≠ not showing love. In IDW she's older but still is very open about her crush on him. (I know she's still supposedly 12 in the comics but about 3 years are meant to have passed in that canon iirc)

I do however think it does make sense in terms of development for Amy. Think about it, she met Sonic when she was 8 and fell in love with him then and there. When she was 8. I'm gonna assume she's around IDW age now, and that makes her roughly 15. She's (finally) not a kid anymore. I feel the defensiveness could be a reaction because, as I said, she's not a kid anymore, and her crush is something carried over from when she was very young. And like, I estimate she's at about the right age where people start to mature a Lot, and it might be something she finds more embarrassing and childish now? Idk that's my two cents.

Has your opinion on Sonic and Amy as a couple changed any now that they've started to lean into it?

Hm... Not really, but then again, my problems with Sonic & Amy as an item comes from older materials where Amy was being written incredibly poorly.

Amy herself is, of course, a wonderful character. She's a compassionate, protective and optimistic girl who's faults are that she can be a bit headstrong/stubborn, she rushes into things without a second thought, and sometimes she has trouble seeing the bigger picture.

She has a lot going for her; I've always loved her ties to magic and tarot, she's into fitness/self defense, and still loves all things pink and feminine. And she can smash your head in with her giant fucking hammer.

Ideally, she'd be a really enjoyable character whose traits would play off really well with someone like Sonic's. They have enough in common that they could get on really well, and their flaws mean they could butt heads in interesting ways, and seeing how they resolve their differences could be fun.

But, unfortunately, Amy seems to be a character SEGA struggles to keep consistent; her characterization in TMOSTH was far better than it was in Frontiers, and so while I despised the SonAmy hints in Frontiers, I enjoyed it a bit more in TMOSTH.

The issue with her characterization in Frontiers was that, while I do appreciate the route her character is taking and the idea that Amy realizes her faults and wants to grow, and is now willing to accept she can have adventures without Sonic (which she did in SA1 to great effect!), her character felt so... muted.

It didn't feel like Amy.

TMOSTH was cute because it remembered that Amy can be a bit pigheaded, that she's quick to anger, that she has her flaws as a person and does dumb things but ultimately cares so much about everyone around her.

I'm far more tolerant of SonAmy when both characters are written in a way that does them both justice. Amy ready to throw down with someone she perceives as a threat to Sonic? Good! Amy ready to throw down with someone she perceives as competition for Sonic's attention? Less Good. Sonic X did the character so dirty.

Anyway to actually answer your question - hilariously, the answer after all my rambling is, I don't care. I'm indifferent to ships amongst the Sonic canon. Are the characters written well? Is the story enjoyable? Yes? Aight, we gucci.

I'd hate to ask this given the irony involved, but it does sorta seem to be a recurring issue in some cases: do you think the opinions of other people should allow be allowed to frequently influence how someone thinks or feels about something themselves?

If I did, I'd have bought into the "all pre-Colours good, all post-Colours bad" mantra a long time ago. Which I clearly never have, and still don't to this day.

You also would never have seen my other controversial takes, like my criticisms towards sacred cows like SA2 and Unleashed, not caring about Sonamy and openly considering it an extremely overrated pairing, calling the fandom out for mindlessly shitting on Tails while making every excuse under the weather for other characters' bad portrayals across the series, and of course, everything I've said about IDW. I'm well aware that a number of my Sonic opinions are not the most popular... and I don't care, because a popular opinion doesn't always mean it's a well-founded one.

If one person influences another person on how they look at something, it should be for a logical reason. Let's say you're making an argument in defense of '06, but your argument turns out to be incredibly faulty, and full of holes. Meanwhile, the other person's argument for why the game deserves its reputation is much more well constructed, and based on good reasoning. In that scenario, it makes sense that you would gain a new perspective, since they may have opened your eyes to something that you didn't take into account beforehand. You may still like the game, but you now have a better understanding for why not everyone will share that leniency. That's completely natural.

But when the other person is simply being antagonistic, and using the popularity of their opinion (or something else, like their own popularity) to artificially back them up? Fuck those guys, especially if they resort to bullying and slandering. They don't have a real argument to make, they just can't tolerate different opinions. There's a difference between being frank and being an arsehole, and too many people fall into the latter category while assuming they're the former.

Being a Sonic fan with some unpopular opinions, people like that are a sore spot for me, and I have no patience for them. When I was on SSMB, there were a lot of members who were praised for "telling it like it is", and sure enough, every last one of them just so happened to hold the popular opinions and/or ganged up on anyone with a different viewpoint.

Sonic Forces prompt: Amy offers herself in exchange for Sonic release, she "says" she'll give special info on their plans for Sonic's return but ultimately doesn't and believes with Sonic back the troops morale will improve. Sonic, however, is angry that his friends would let her do something like that and upon freeing her fears what Infinite did to her to "make her talk." Sonic isn't happy that Amy would give herself up like that and they have a talk that helps them both heal after the war.

I may slightly change your idea, slightly, but I think it’ll be more dramatic how Amy is taken instead of Sonic this way. I don’t think I can come up with much of a reason for Infinite taking her instead of Sonic when Sonic is quite literally passed out, so I made up my mind that ‘this’ way would be a bit more believable. (If this turns into an InfinitexAmy but ends on Sonamy, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. It... it’s a problem and I can’t stop it, lol)

It was mortifying. Seeing Sonic go down so fast, suddenly becoming still and lifeless...

Everyone froze on the battlefield, and after their bodies forced them to take a breath, Amy rushed in front of Sonic’s limp body.

Infinite slowly floated down, his tail slightly flicking in an elegant manner, but showing his frustration at her immediate interference.

“Hahaha..! And what do you suppose you can do... Your hero has failed you, your forces will end here... There’s nothing your patheic attempt at saving his life could possibly do for your forces...” He placed his hand up to his mask, gloating as he taunted her protective stance in front of Sonic’s laying form.

She frowned heavily, her hands shaking a moment on her raised hammer but quickly gripped it tighter to stop the fear creeping into her heart. “Sonic can’t loose!” She declared, confidently. “Not if we’re all standing beside him!”

Infinite took his other arm and wrapped it around himself, creating a place for his before mentioned raised hand’s elbow to rest on. “If he wakes up... none of you will be here... hahaha!”

His laughter caused Amy’s eyebrows to twitch down into an even fiercer glare.

Getting annoyed at her bravery, Infinite pivoted quickly in the air and threw his arms down, “Stubborn as your kind, I see!” he raised his arm slowly, “No matter... I’ll dispose of all this ‘false hope’ and end this war’s resistance once and for-”

“I’d like to see you try!” Amy took a confident step forward, but Eggman’s voice cut both of them off from their respective ‘duel’ of sorts.

“Infinite!” Eggman seemed to be giving the commands around here, and not Infinite. “I want him captured and alive!”

Infinite flicked his tail again, a bit more to show his growing anger, but turned to Amy. “The Doctor seems to be under the impression that he’s better off watching the world burn then burning with it... an unfortunate call, but he never said anything about preserving his friends lives...”

A red beam shot from his hands as Amy threw up her hammer and was blown back by it, but made sure she didn’t knock into Sonic.

She looked back at him, worried, before shaking her fears off again and standing boldly in front of Infinite. “I’ll go instead!” she cried out. “I can tell you valuable plans for the resistance-!”

“Like I would believe such a tale.” Infinite continued to fire off shots, trying to get her to leave the body to him, but she wouldn’t budge.

She was blasted time and time again by the contact of his beams against her hammer, but she continued to remain strong and deflect them away while not moving from where Sonic was.

She gritted her teeth, seeing he wasn’t going to buy into bluffs.

“No fear,” she began, which threw Infinite off as he pulled back his hand, growing even more furious at her courage. “Amy Rose is here!” she began to charge him, and growing afraid, he shot one red beam out from a few different cubes that appeared around him, firing all into the center of her hammer as she tried to push against it.

She grunted, showing the strain on her body as the laser beams continued to dig into her hammer and weaken her of her reserved power.

He laughed then, seeing her at a standstill. “Your useless attempt at saving his life will end in vain. It’s pointless to strive against a more powerful force than your own!”

“...Eggman... and even you don’t scare me.” She spoke through clenched teeth, but her feet were sliding as she tried to push against the combined red force of the beams.

Infinite’s eye twitched at her words.

“...You will be!” he threw back his resting hand and shot another powerful beam into the center, giving an extra force to the already overpowering might of the Phantom Ruby cubes.

She was forced back, but when she did so, Tails flew into the scene along with the others, leading a defensive wall just to stand as cover.

Knuckles and the others lead another ground team, trying to get people out of there.

Espio suddenly appeared, having gone invisible to get Amy, but she weakly opened her eyes and spoke in a haze, “No... Go... get... Sonic...”

“But-” Espio looked to see Sonic, his fingers finally twitched, showing he was alive... somewhat. “What about you?” He looked back at her and she breathed faintly. “We... need... him.” She spoke, trying to use the last of her strength to push Espio towards him, scooting his foot to Sonic’s direction. “He’ll... raise... morale.”

“That’s not your reason.” Espio knew her undying love for Sonic, but wouldn’t be so easily moved by it. “You’re acting like a fool, let me help you up-ah!” she batted away his reaching hands.

“GO!” she cried out, “Now!”

His eyes flinched at her declaration... his fist shook, “Sonic...” he ran towards him and turned invisible, laying on top of him to block out Infinite’s vision in seeing him, creating a blank space that looked like no one was there... “Forgive me...” He closed his eyes, feeling them shake. He knew Sonic wouldn’t let this go, and probably stage a hasty rescue for Amy... but letting Amy go... what was she planning?!

Infinite had no trouble squandering Tails’s force, flying over them and shooting out his beams before seeing Amy on the ground, panting and trying to get up on her knees, and Sonic no where to be found.

In his rage, he flew straight at her, gripping her throat and pulling her up into the air. “Where is he!?What have you done with him?!”

Amy struggled to place her hands on his own, gripping tightly against her airway. “G-given... the... r-resistance... a-a.... miracle... of... h-ho-hope.”

In his fury, he lifted his other hand to tear her face clean through, but Eggman flew up behind the flames.

“You lost him!?” He roared, but looked around, “Nevermind the girl! Wait-... Wait, wait, wait! Mind her, mind her!” He flew closer to them and sat up in his Eggmobile, shaking a hand in front of himself to visually show Infinite not to hurt her. “Take her with us to the moon! Sonic will always help a friend in need... wherever we take her... he’ll be sure to follow.” Eggman snickered, but then immediately turned to a frown as he flew over and smacked Infinite upside the head, “When that comes-! Don’t screw it up!” he flew off then, as though somewhat intimidated by Infinite as well, but not scared of him.

Infinite, feeling humiliated upon his total victory just a moment ago, lowered his raised hand but kept Amy by the throat.

He pulled her closer to the edge of his mask, “Our quarrel isn’t over... Amy.”

She kept trying to resist his grip, but he pressed just slightly more to make her choke out her words.

Espio heard her struggling, but knew if he moved even slightly, Sonic’s body would be revealed. ‘Forgive me..!’ he continued to think silently, letting Amy endure the torture.

But with a swift kick, Amy got out of his grasp, just before the final blow to knock her out.

“Hmph,” being shoved away, he dusted himself off, flexing the hand he used to strangle her momentarily with. “Persistent... all the signs of an animal on it’s last legs...”

Amy tried to regain her breathing,...

“I have no use for you... but since Eggman believes you can lure out Sonic... I suppose I can let you live... but you did say you had intel on the resistance. Might as well...” He walked slowly towards her, threatening an advance as he leaned down slightly to show he was ready to duke it out again. “Rip the knowledge right out of you..!”

His swift movements didn’t catch her off-guard like they did Sonic, and instead, their fight was met with blocks and swings, before she spun around and flipped back, shoving him away.

While he was still flying back, she used the opportunity to hit Espio and Sonic into the air, swinging them up as Tails and Knuckles immediately flew and glided up to grab them. They disappeared into the fray of the retreating army, but as Amy was staggering to try and keep herself upright, about to flee with them, Infinite gripped her from behind and threw a hand over her mouth so she couldn’t cry for help. Not that her throat had recovered much from his earlier, killing force.

He flew high into the air, keeping her locked in his arms before she bit his hand.

“Fine, except your fate!” he let her go but threw open a false reality, splitting her mind into believing she was being glitched apart and turning into static interference.

He watched with some amusement, before using the realm to also quickly transfer her to the moon’s prison.

Everything was black... and cold.

The metal beneath her only increased her discomfort as she began to slowly blink her eyes, and getting up... looking to see the design very much like Eggman’s handiwork.

Her hands were shackled by some strange technology that glowed light blue, and behind her, a lowered metal bed that hung just a little off the floor.

She sighed and felt her head ringing, not wanting to remember how she got here, but having the memories skate by quickly as she recollected herself.

“Hmph, Eggman is a fool to think this will cause any panic.”

That voice wasn’t familiar... and as she turned to see a huge, hulking red beast with horns in front of her cell, she held in her surprised gasp.

Her mouth opened as her eyes scanned but then shut quickly as he looked over to her, “What will you do with her?” his arms were folded, looking less than thrilled at the prospect of not being able to get his revenge right away. “I was told I could toss Sonic around like my own personal punching bag!” He tightened his fist, “Eggman will hear of my displeasure...”

Infinite’s voice suddenly entered the frame, and Amy felt her chest tighten as though his very voice could constrict her now like he had her throat.

“Leave the girl and whatever use she can be to me. I understand you’re aggravation, but don’t get in my way with your sap story...” He flicked a hand out, as though dismissing Zavok as Amy put together that he must have come to beat down on Sonic even more...

If he were here... hurt and disoriented, worried about his friends and going crazy at the small confinement... no, Sonic wouldn’t have succumbed to dread. He would have taken the beating till he could fight back... He would have remained hopeful that his team would come through. That they could make it and manage a short while without him.

Infinite walked up into the sight of the prison bars... almost like stalking her image a moment before pausing towards the door of her cell. “...What good is your failed bravery now?” he taunted, then tilted his head and gestured his hand out. “Your friends will do just fine without you, that much is true, dying was never hard for your kind anyway.”

‘My kind..?’ Amy wondered if that meant Infinite wasn’t one of them, but perhaps, half robot. She tried to open her mouth but her voice failed her, and she put her hands up to her mouth, realizing all that was coming out was air.

Infinite watched... seeing her frailty, and disregarding it to continue speaking. He looked away from her, “Your friends have been fighting but to no avail... Eggman will crush them soon... and when that happens, he’ll give the order to eliminate the last of them... you.” he looked back to her, “A worthless ant compared to Sonic... just a bigger, squishable ant than you.”

After telling her how much Eggman had taken over the world, even with Sonic still out among the resistance, he then added, “-And no one seems to be prioritizing you. You’re just another casualty to them.”

Amy remained poised, now seeing she couldn’t speak without resounding ridicule from Infinite, she just lowered her hands to her lap and sat properly, staring with a strong look back to him.

“...Even Sonic can’t save the world now.” He waited to see her despair set in... but her eyes simply declared, ‘He will,’.

Infinite’s eye widened and shook, before blinking to a calm and moving more towards her cell. “The last of your hope is about to be snuffed out before you can even see him again..!”

Her eyes blared a holy light of hope, as she let him fall into it’s sucking pull of knowing he was wrong. ‘And you’ll never see it coming...’.

He clashed his hand up against the cell, causing a loud sensation to echo through the whole of the moon’s structure, creating a vibrating force that should have rocked Amy to her core, at least made her flinch, but nothing... “You and the rest of your pathetic resistance is already doomed by my power and the power of the Phantom Ruby!!!”

Amy’s eyes remained constant in their resolve, their power never waning as they once again continued, ‘He’ll overwhelm you in the light of his hope, and you’ll be weak to resist it.’

Slashing the door open as it immediately unlocked for him, he charged into the cell and loomed over her. His body twitched at her still being able to hold her own, and immediately tried to beat out the ‘speak of life’ within her.

She wouldn’t just take a beating, and instead, fought bravely, even though her hands were restricted, summoned her hammer and kept on fighting.

Months had gone by where the routine was to pretend her voice never healed, watch as Infinite continued to try and break her spirit piece by piece with lies, but never fully give in to any of them. Once his patience ran thin, she would fight to stay alive under his brutal hate of her trust in Sonic and her friends.

“I AM NOT WEAK!” he grabbed her hammer which had tried to swing to his head, and threw her down to the ground.

Gripping the top of her head, he threw her against the metallic torture board, but didn’t bother to strap her up this time. “I know your voice should is healed!” his voice was like a shockwave, ringing through the metallic chamber and throughout the moon. He had personally excused Zavok back to the earth to fight Sonic, and though he journeyed there to fight as well, wouldn’t miss a single appointment to try and strip Amy of all she ever believed and held dear.

“You’re just too broken to use it!” he tried to gloat, but she could tell he was only trying to convince himself that she feared him, when it really wasn’t the case.

She pretended it hurt, when it didn’t, and stayed up against the metal board, tilted slightly to hold someone up to a the deadly lightning that would try and shock information out of her.

He paced behind her back, looking to her then away, as though feeling he had nothing left to throw at her, no plan remaining to extract her spirit and tear her core apart.

He wouldn’t admit how strong she was, he wouldn’t allow himself to think such a thing.

So he was convincing himself that he was still winning, and Amy just held her ground time and time again.

He finally moved up to her and slammed a hand against the board, the vibration hurting her hands as she moved away from it and felt herself bump up against him.

She was shocked he was so close, and turned to get ready for another rumble, but he grabbed her shoulder and turned her forcefully, shoving her back against the metallic board.

“Say something...” his voice sounded off, and she looked around, still pretending she couldn’t speak. His claws traced her shoulder down to her collarbone... then up to her throat that slowly began to enclose around her throat again.

She fought but he rammed his elbow into her the metallic board, keeping her in place beneath him, having her slightly lean to match the board’s angle with her back.

“...You still think someone’s going to save you... don’t you?” He lightly squeezed on her throat and she tried to hold back a sound of pain, but he kept his thumb pressing in different places, as though trying to force out a sound. “You don’t even bothering using your voice anymore... not that anything you say would change the truth!” he then threw her away from the metallic board and watch her catch herself before falling to the steel ground. “Even if they try..!” He pivoted to her, angling his head up to loom over her, possessively. “I would never let them have you... Not until I’ve sent you back... in pieces!” He threw back his hand but before he could strike, Amy already summoning her hammer and trying to get her feet under her more, a hook-shot wrapped expertly around his raised wrist, as Infinite was held back. “WHAT?!” he looked bewilderedly back at the wire, and followed it to it’s source...

“Nice shot, Rookie!” A familiar, cheery voice suddenly spun into the fray and spindashed into Infinite, shredded his quills into his Phantom Ruby as the cubes glitched into reality at being threatened.

“NOOO!!!” Infinite was released from the hookshot and pushed back as Sonic’s whirling blue ball of thunder spun in the air a moment before landing in front of Amy, uncurling to reveal her hero.

“Sonic!” she finally let the words out, as Infinite’s eye shook at her voice he hadn’t heard for months.

“The one and only!” Sonic adjusted his gloves, then tapped his foot behind him, as though getting ready for a rumble. “Sorry I’m a bit late, Amy! Zavok took forever to force an answer out of him, what’d I miss?”

“GRAAAH!!” Infinite swung a beam back at Sonic but he quickly dodged it, letting it follow him as he gave Rookie a command.

“Hey, buddy! Get Amy out of here and leave this to me!”

“Nooo!” Infinite turned his target to the red Rookie, but Amy got up and slammed a hammer into his stomach. “Ack..! Ahh... l-liar...” He staggered, and as he did so, tried to reach for her but she quickly gave him one last glare, keeping him up by her hammer, before speedily retreating with the Rookie.

Even at the last second, she wouldn’t speak to him.

He threw out his frustrations onto Sonic, who now that Amy and the Rookie were gone, really let Infinite have it.

From the Rookie, Amy learned how mad and obsessed Sonic was with bringing her back. Chewing out Espio before able to hear reason, he never stopped questioning Eggman and threatening his phantom forces about where she was these six months. He wouldn’t prioritize anything over getting her back, knowing full well she self-sacrificed and risked everything to keep him with the resistance.

“It should have been me!” Sonic kicked Infinite back, but on the second throw, was caught by Infinite’s hand and thrown back.

“Yes, it should have been.” He agreed, and continued to fight him.

“What did you want with Amy anyway!?” Sonic was relentless, and even though Infinite triggered the false dimension many times, Sonic still had plenty of power to keep coming at him.

“...Her voice.” Infinite muttered under his breath, before slashing Sonic to the side and watching him tumble as the gravity began to fail. Sonic was continually spinning horizontally in the air, but floating over to the ceiling’s corner, caught himself and shook his head, glaring back at Infinite and pushing off to dive towards him.

“I wanted her to bring you to me, and now she finally has.”

“Could have been sooner if your mask cracked a bit and you just said where she was in the first place!” their punches weren’t as powerful in zero gravity, but their combined anger meant they were pulling the other to stay within the fight, stay close and personal to keep punching out.

‘I wanted her to choke on her next word-’ Infinite recalled, ‘I wanted her to give up and fall to me like the rest of your insignificant forces! But she wouldn’t!’

Amy was safely delivered to Vector’s escape pod, and the Rookie patted her back, smiling and welcoming her back to earth... and the resistance.

Turning Super Sonic, Sonic also made it out before the moon exploded... and Infinite followed him suit.

Once back at the resistance, Amy could finally rest and get treated for her bruises, which were pretty bad on her throat, where he would target the most.

Eggman scolded Infinite but agreed that Amy was worthless and only there to really cause aggravation and be used as a ‘tool’ really to bargain with and then break their promises and/or deals. Now that she was back, Eggman ordered Infinite to ignore it, but Infinite couldn’t let it slide...

His fingers would twitch to be at her throat again...

With Sonic, hearing she had awaken from her medical rest, he bolted in to startle the nurses and doctors who were looking at her, and noticed her bandaged up with her dress slightly down from her chest to continue fixing up the white bandages.

He turned his head abruptly, but it wasn’t like he could see anything... it was just polite not to stare.

The female doctor who was patching her up smiled at his retreating look, and tied the last knot for Amy, patting her shoulders as Amy blushed and put her dress back up to connect the white collar around her sore neck again.

The male nurse also waved awkwardly to let Sonic know he could look again, and he did so.

“You okay?” He asked, rather quickly, and Amy just smiled weakly to him and closed her eyes.

“I am now that I’ve seen you flourishing!” she chimed, her voice as strong as ever, though not quite matching the patched-up look she had, physically.

“Hmph, Good.” Still angry, he folded his arms and turned his head away. “It would be hard to stay upset if you weren’t.”

“Upset?” Amy asked, curiously, as the rest of the crew eyed one another. Quickly feeling out the mood, they began to depart, letting the two have some privacy.

That same male nurse saw Tails wanting to come in and held up a finger to his lips, showing that he should stay quiet and not bother them right now.

Sonic tapped a foot, aggressively holding in all his words.

“...Sonic? Is everything alright?” Amy worriedly put a hand up to herself and then reached one out to Sonic, but he broke his folded arms and glared at her, with some hurt she didn’t recognize.

“I’ve thought for 6 months how I was gonna sternly call you out for your heroism, how you should have just let it slide and let him take me.” His voice was as though he was banishing her to get out of his presence, but she knew that wasn’t how he was meaning to come off... right?

“After a while, I thought maybe I should explain where I’m coming from, get you to understand how much pain you’ve brought me since you traded in your life for mine.” His voice got softer, but not by much. He leaned on the gurney and got closer to her face, his eyes still intense. “Because... it’s been the first time in my life... that I’ve ever felt genuinely worried for the future... where I couldn’t stop thinking about the ‘what ifs’ and every night, the same cursed dream of not waking up in time to save you... not being strong enough to not picture all the horrible things that Infinite and Zavok must have been doing to you to get information out on me and the others... the whole resistance was crying their eyes out for you and then letting them sting the next morning as they searched for signs of you.”

As he spoke, Amy felt her heart sinking and rising in turns. Like he was filling her heart with the floods of emotions that were quickly blocking and pushing Infinite’s hopeless attempts to sink her out, and letting her heart swiftly rise up to it’s proper position, instead of down by her stomach in dreaming hopes of grandeur that her friends were alright and well.

She saw the earth from above... but forced herself to never cry, never let Infinite get to her...

Sonic was confused by her silence, but seeing her throat, figured it may hurt to speak.

He looked away, his lips parting to show his clenched teeth and her eyes spotting also his scraping nails against the gurney’s covers...

“I honestly didn’t know, Amy...” He admitted, “... if you’d be there in my future or not.”

She gasped.

Never before had she ever assumed Sonic would give in to such thinking...

“But I couldn’t give up...” He closed his eyes, trying to remain unemotional. “I had to disregard my speech, and if I found you, just tell you how I really feel.”

He then turned seriously towards her, his eyes piecing into her heart that he had made soar up to her throat, bumping against the sides as though unable to move further as it was too big to squeeze through, but the emotional floods were pushing it up regardless.

She slightly leaned back, lost for words, instead of holding them back like before...

“Now... all I can say is... why?” he pleaded, “Why did you do it?” his eyes grew hopelessly soft as though unable to keep up the ‘tough guy’ persona. “Why didn’t you just... save yourself?”

It was love, it had to be. Amy couldn’t perceive this change of character without it being somewhere in his heart.

Six months... anger, to sorrow, to now seeking understanding...

She had put him through the works, and she wanted to heal and mend what she had broken in him.

Eggman and Infinite had succeeded in one thing... torturing this poor boy out of his mind with thoughts of her and her predicament.

Though Infinite had done the same to her, she never fell to his designs... And Sonic? He wouldn’t allow himself to fully surrender either, it wasn’t in his nature. However, for the first time, he was admitting how truly lost he was without knowing what had become of her.

“I had to do something, Sonic.” She admitted, raising her hand to put it gently by his cheek, seeing how truly weak he had become now that he was standing before her, and let his knees sink into the bedding of her gurney.

“But... why? I never asked you to sacrifice yourself for me!” he dipped his head, not willing to show her his distraught.

She smiled a little wider, happy to see he hadn’t forgotten what a big risk she had taken for his sake.

“To save you, Sonic,... Was to save the resistance.” she cupped his chin to lift it up so she could press her forehead to his own. “You never needed to ask me, Sonic... and you never should... I will always rush, headfirst, into whatever danger may present itself... if it means I can keep you in my life.”

Sonic’s arms twitched, as though wanting to embrace her.

Seeing him hold back so much, his expression being hidden by his pride, she took the initiative and wrapped herself lovingly around his waist, before flinching at the pain from her bruising.

Gripping her arm, he dug his forehead into her shoulder, still refusing to show her what was happening to him through his face.

“I’ll make Infinite pay for this..” he darkly declared, “I won’t let Eggman get away with this either...”

“I don’t ask for revenge, Sonic.” Amy held him closer, “I just wanted you to be okay.”

“Like I don’t feel the same way!?” Sonic finally blurted out, “Let me fight for you now that I have you back again! We all want too! We-!”

She put his hand up from her shoulder, traced it passed her collar bone which made go silent as he moved back to see what on earth she was doing, and then placed it to her throat.

“My voice isn’t hidden anymore,” she seemed to be symbolizing something, but he wasn’t sure what she was talking about. She looked up at him, giving him the same deadly look of bravery she had given Infinite, “I fight with you, and you... you, and everyone, will be my resisting voice.”

The Loud House Valentine’s Day Double Feature (Back in Black and Stage Plight) or My My My Once Bitten Twice Shy

What is up my Loudites? And while I am returning to the Loud House I do have some sad news to get out of the way first.. i’m ending regular coverage of the Loud House. I don’t like doing this.. but when I picked up the show, I didn’t really have a set schedule.. and that was a bad thing as I didn’t get nearly everything I wanted done. Now I have one and honestly it’s been great: it allows me to stay focused and if I end up not feeling what I was going to do that day, provided it’s not a comission or specfically needed that day, I can swap things around a bit easier.

The reason I bring this up is Nick’s way of scheduling means I CAN’T reasonably put the show on the schedule. They often don’t announce airdates until the wee before, which isn’t a bad thing WATCHING, and isn’t unresonable for a children’s network. But for someone who likes to have a concrete schedule at the top of the month, still flexable and able to make changes if they come up but at least some idea of what i’ll be doing and when, that’s a non-starter, as not knowing when a show’s going to be there or not really messes with things. In contrast Disney puts up their entire programming schedule for next month towards the end, so I know if a show’s coming back, and thus that it’ll probably be around for next month’s too. And if it goes away a week earlier than expected then super I have that space for other sttuff. But I just have too much other stuff, paid and on my own time, to keep friday’s open in perpetuity.

I will however still reviewing the show infrequently as I still love it, Season 5 will probably have plenty of episodes I want to talk about, already it has Leni running for mayor which sounds like one of my wonky spinoff ideas and I love it all the more for that, and ther’es tons of episodes I have and haven’t seen to dig into. So like Lori I won’t be in the house on a daily basis but i’m still going to show up a lot. I already have an April Fools special planned, as well as a retrospective ready for some time in the future. And of course if more Sam and Luna episodes show up, you know i’ll be on those as fast as humanly possible so yeah not leaving the show.. just not coveirng it because I like having some control of my schedule, it’s a thing with me.

Good then we can get to why your ACTUALLY reading this unless you’ve already scrolled past or scrolled up to this. Next Sunday is Valentine’s Day, and so to continue Valnetine’s Shenanigans on this fine blog, i’m doing some romantic style episodes of the loud hosue for you. I did intend for this to be bigger, but frankly i’ve been running behind on reviews and running out of steam lately, so I paired it down to the two I wanted to do most. So for today we’ll be covering two of the show’s couples: One they badly need to bring back and I question why they haven’t, and one that I feel has gotten a lot of flack for things that aren’t it’s fault. Both are really adorable so expect some awkward blushing, bats, blood, and other stuff rhyming with B under the cut!

Back in Black: So we begin our double feature with Lucy

Yeah I have not covered this adorable harbinger of death enough on this blog, and intended to do this one, among other lucycentric episodes back in october.. and the fact I didn’t is a good argument for why I have a schedule now ain’t it? But sometimes your plans not panning out right at the exact time you planned them works out for you. Not getting to do Plan 9 From Mission Hill during Pride Month meant I got to do it on comission later. And not getting to do this one at Halloween means it still works fine just fine for valentine’s day.

So we begin the episode with Lincoln working on his science project, with Rusty coming over to help.

Shockingly though not only is he not just taking a nap or hitting on Lincon’s sisters while Lincoln works but actually helping, he’s actually good at it. I’m as suprsied as you. Though this is early in his characterization, so he hasn’t’nt been established as horribly sucking at everything or his friends being done with his bullshit QUITE yet. Give him time. This is an interesting moment in the character’s history though, as it’s the episode that firmly establishes him as a close friend of Lincolns. While he was already turned from a member of a random violence gang to LIncoln’s buddy in the span of season 1, this episode cements him as one of his closer pals simply by him coming over and the two being fairly familiar with one another. Granted by that same token Girl Jordan should be in the group.. and I have nothing to add to that. Add Girl Jordan to the Lincrew. Just do it.

Anyways Rusty brought his brother along. And you’d expect me to be terrified as there’s now three of them. But.. nope I like Rocky. He’s a chill kid and his personality goes together well with Lucy’s as while he’s a more typical kid, he’s still very subdued in his emotions like she is. Also he mentions both parents so my divorce theory.. is honestly still valid as this was three seasons ago and I could buy their mother left during that time.

And yes Lucy’s in love.. and stalking him a bit as she follows him around the house sighing while he wonders who did that.. though it is a nice clue their compatible. When you can sense the presence of someone whose big running gag is showing up out of nowhere to scare the crap out of people that means something. And it’s either that you’d really get that person or your Wolverine. Or one of his kids. Or his clones. Or clones of his clones. What i’m saying is Rusty’s mom banged the wolverine and his family tree is really weird even by marvel standards.

But I do give her a pass as she’s not trying to be creepy or obsessive, she just doesn’t know how to talk to him as he’s your average kid and she’s a creature of the night. It’s just a kid being shy which is very refreshing both because pre-savnio being fired the show had some very messed up ideas about relationships and gender politics at times, the latter of which actually crops up here, and because having grown up with the cartoons of the 90′s and 2000′s.. I had to put up with things like this.

Full Disclosure: I DO ship sonamy.. but only after around Sonic Chronicles, where Bioware and then Sega decided to not make “Constantly harasses sonic despite him clearly not being interested and saying so vocally” and “Obessess over him to a point I worry she’s going to break his legs so he’ll never run away from her again”, as well as aging her up from 12. Still find her ungodly annoying at best and terrible at worst before that point, Sonic CD and Sonic Advance excluded. And yes I am that huge of a nerd, damn proud of it too.

What i’m getting at is that a little girl unable to talk to a guy and only being kinda creepy because that’s what she does is LEAGUES better than “IT’S NOT CREEPY WHEN A WOMAN DOES IT”. Given this episode was written by a woman that probably helped a lot if not entirely but I don’t blame her for that.. more on that later.

Point is she’s smitten but her first attempt to talk goes back as he rushes to leave after she tries talking to him.. and also appears out of nowhere to spook him. Come on man, your better than that. YOu sensed her before why not now? Up your game. But yeah Lucy’s depressed while Lincoln talks to her about it, about them leaving and once Lucy confesses she’s into rocky asks what he’s into. Lincoln.. has no idea as he’s barely been around Rocky. He’s just an average kid he dosen’t quite understand. Normal is the word he uses and Lucy ponders that. We next see the three most traditionally feminine sisters, Lori, Leni and Lola, all pissed someone stole their stuff, though Lori does suspect Lola at first because let’s face it, this fits her MO of being an entitled brat and not being above petty theft. But no the culprit is Lucy who genuinely apologizes and understands that their mad but the other girls are fine with it given the context, which Lucy explained, and are happy to make her over. This is where the problem I was hinting at comes in: ALL the girls are on board with this makeover plan. the problem is.. only the three who came in in the first place make actually sense making Lucy more tradiotnally feminine. Lori loves fashion and is a control freak who has troubles with empathy at times especially at this point in the series, Leni while not INTETIONALLY hurtful is kind of ditzy and thus can miss some cues, and Lola has a yawning starless void where her soul should be. For these three? Yeah this plot actually makes sense they wouldn’t think of Lucy’s feelings and actually help her use who she is to get rocky or tell her it doesn’t matter she’s beautiful as she is.. then presumably bring the wrath of god down on that poor child before things were cleared up. The issue is more dragging the other sisters into it. It only fits the three above to really give a shit about making Lucy more “normal” and “Girly” and “Other stereotypical bullshit”. Luna is very chill and empathetic and would be the first to say “Wait maybe making her the opposite of herself isn’t a good idea”, Luan is likewise empathetic though I could possibly see it she really doesn’t need to be in this plot, Lynn ENTIRELY doesn’t fit as she prefers sports and getting dirty and what not and is the closest to Lucy out of the sisters and thus would probably be the most defensive about her not changing and that could’ve actually been interesting, Lana would be the same minus the being closest and Lisa is coldly detached a lot of the time and wouldn’t care about any of this on a good day. It feels HORRIBLY offensive and out of character to have them all suddenly be “nah your not girly enough”. These girls don’t give a shit about whose more feminine than who and it’s really bad to pidgeonhole them as that. However.. I dont’ blame episode writer Gloria Shen entirely for this. She wrote it, she gets some of the discredit.. but she didn’t DIRECT the episode and a LOT can change from page to screen. No THAT was series creator and known sexual preadator Chris Savino. And i’m not just blaming him because he’s a creepy asshole, but because the seasons he directed, seasons 1, 2 and most of 3, had a bad habit of having episodes where all the girls acted as a group and often to weak ends, like the green house, the one where they all fought, the gender swap episode or heavy meddle.. which is a headache for another day. Point is it doesn’t surprise me he didn’t fix this or even genuinely cared to differentiate them and it’d be until next season where the show fully became an ensemble piece. SO yeah I blame him on this not for his horrible history, but simply because it sounds like his writing style and as director, and a producer on the show, he had the power and responsibility to fix things and did nothing. So if it wasn’t directly his fault in the first place , he certainly didn’t fix it, call it out in storyboarding or well anything. So yeah shared blame all around.

So after a makeover montage, Lucy is uh... well I can’t describe the abomination they’ve created.

I mean.. none of it works, and I think that’s very much the intent, dosen’t make it any less horrifying. Nothing about this is right: makeup REALLY shouldn’t go on a child in any circumstace so the blush on her cheeks is creepy and makes her look like one of those creepy porcelian dolls that i’m 100% sure either are planning to kill us all one day or were made to keep the souls of the damned trapped inside forever. The ear rings just look creepy and again are a bit much for an 8 year old, and the blonde hair just brings it all together. The pink outfit is fine.. I guess but the face is just so unsettling I can’t process the rest of her outfit and i’m not even going to try.

Point is she looks terrifying, and not in the fun way she usually does, and Rocky dosen’t know what to make of this. Oh and if your wondering why he’s here Lynn just.. took a hockey stick to Lincoln’s project to get the Spokes Boys back over here, and Lisa mocked him for pointing out the obvious holes in their plan despite being 4 and LIncoln having a girlfriend at this point. Granted his relationship with Ronnie Anne at this point is also kinda effed up, but given you all pushed him in this direction, Lisa still has no room to talk and they amicably broke up at some point once the writers decided “Let’s pretend like this never happened and they were just friends, despite her being introduced with a crush on him and us still replaying episodes with said relationship in play, instead of actually dealing with this directly”. You may be easily able to guess what hte retrospective’s about at this point. So Lori comes in for phase two .. WITH BOBBY!

Just.. I cannot tell you how much I needed my boy to calm me down after the last two scenes of horribly off character writing and ... that thing up there. He dosen’t do much this episode but every episode is better with Bobby and that’s a scientefic fact. So Lori claims they had a double date fall through which Bobby barely follows along with.. and it does kinda feel pressurey to kinda force Rocky’s hand here but her intentions ARE good, and a group date is a good way to relive presssure. It just ends up falling through becaue Lori wants her to act intentionally helpless, which makes no sense both for Lori’s personality given how driven and controlling she is and how Bobby clearly knows both things and likes the first and she worked on the second for him. So yeah the golf date falls through and Lori apologizes for being a bitch about all of this, as they all do, which again. .has me questioning WHY we needed the whole sister group instead of just Lori and co. Or even just Lori. The show REALLY needed to learn character ballance and while it is struggling on occasion, as seen with how lincolncentric this season has been so far, this episode reminds me it used to be MUCH worse.

But Lucy thanks them because their intetnions were good, i’m going to need a citation on that given it came off as them wanting her to change because they found her weird nad not because they genuinely wanted to help her, and goes off to sulk about being alone. Lincoln dosen’t know what to do till the next day where, again suprisingly, Rusty had the right idea and had them come over to his place. We also find out he’s scared of blood.. which.. I can relate to. Seriously i’ve only insulted the guy once the whole episode

But we find that out because Rocky made his own because he actually found Lucy’s really cool, what a kid. So Lincoln gets the brothers over to his house by damaging the project himself then claming they need to go back and once he sees Lucy’s around has Rocky go into the kitchen to get them some sodas which he agrees to because why not.

So in a nice little change-up on the running gag Rocky shows up startling Lucy and we get a really fucking cute scene as they hash things out. They have a normal conversation, finally getting past their shared awkwardness, in part because he admits he prefers her as herself. As it turns out Rocky wasn’t scared.. he just thought she was too cool for him and felt intimidated and like Lucy had no idea what to say. The two then blush and after my heart melts and I freeze it back into shape in a few hours, the two decide to go look at her coffin collection and the next day proudly show off their perfected fake blood.. which destroys the project one more time. WAH WAH WAH. Oh rusty... I knew I could count on you to fuck up at least once.

Back in Black Final Thoughts: First off Black in Black: Weird Name. I mean it kinda gives the game away, not that fans would thikn horrifying mistake lucy would stick but still, and dosen’t really fit. Call it “Why Do Ghoul’s Fall in Love” or something like that or something related to makeovers. Makeover Mistep. Don’t Make Me Over. Makeover Your Case... okay that last one sounds more like the Legally Blond equilvent of Cobra Kai but the point is it’s just weird. Outside of the parts I already went in detail about why their dreadful.. this ep is pretty good. That one bit isn’t enough to derail the episode, merley take it’s goodness down a notch, and Lucy is genuinely fun to watch and her heartbreak is hard to watch, and Rocky was an engaging new character with lots of potetial. A large part of why I did this episode. is to ask WHY he hasn’t come back. Rusty’s now a major character, to the point he’s co-headlining an episode next week with Zach... why Zach’s getting an episode, a SECOND one at that I have no earthly idea but the point is the show’s getitng comfortable enought heir giving lincoln’s friends starring episodes without him too, as Liam got one , if alongside Lynn the power couple of 2021 I tells ya. My point is, besides when is Stella getting an episode dammit, that Rocky really should make a come back as he both provides another character for Rusty and the rest of the lincrew to bounce off of, and he and Lucy had genuine chemstiry and now she has her OWN cast there’s an easy story there about her friends reaction to her dating a non goth. There’s a lot of story potetial with this precious boy bring him back. But overall Pretty in Black is a decent episode, worth checking out if you haven’t seen it and rewatching even if you have.

Stage Plight: So we open with Luann, whose one of my personal faviorites along with Leni, Luna, and Lucy. Granted I haven’t checked out her yearly bouts of going ax crazy on her family yet, but we’ll see in april. But outside of that, which is easy enough to isee iven it’s three episodes out of 214 where she’s like this and she gets her compuance, I find her precious, awkward, and entertaining, from her habit of saying “Get it “ to her love of puns, to the fact she’s essentially a wholesome version of the batman villian the ventriloquist..

Yeah in case you forgot about this gag, she often talks through her dummy Mr. Coconuts.. who functions as her sounding board and helps her figure things out, talks like he’s from the 40′s or 50′s, and in general is a delight. He also once or twice, including this episode acts of his own free will so I don’t know if this is a Child’s Play situation and a dying comedian put his body in her dummy and she’s just rolling with it, if she somehow put a piece of her soul in a dummy or what the hell’s going on here. Compared to the series recently what with it’s mayoral campagins, children murdering guys, and actualy factual spies, this is mildly sane. MIldly. This may also be a serious and untreated case of Disociative Identnity Disorder, but given it’s not framed that way, and Coconuts just seems to be Luann’s way of talking with herself, for now she has’nt gone full vintriloquist. Thoguh givne her april fools day behavior and her profession as a comedian, she probably WILL become the new joker at a some point.

So the two are talking about Luann’s crush on Benny. Benny was introduced back in L is for Love and is one of the only three love interests there to actually return, and along with Sam the only onen to get multiple episodes about their relationship with their respective loud and a full personality. He was also MASSIVELY hated. For those who joined the fandom more recently, Luann was massively shipped with Maggie, an emo girl who showed up in Luann’s second spotlight episode and one where she didn’t torment her entire family, one I still need to see but have read about. It was pretty cute and nothing was wrong with that or the opposites attract dynamic. But said fans got REALLY and understandibly upset about his introduction and were presumibly none too happy he got to return and got his roll expanded. And I.. genuinely like the kid. I have nothing against Maggie and in fact poly ship her with both Luann and Benny, as both seem like they’d be open to that and her dour demanor creates a nice contrast between the chipper luann and the somewhat chipper but also chill benny in the middle. I just feel he’s a very likeable character, sweet and awkward and very much on Luann’s wavelength. Like Sam he’s SIMILAR to his love intrest, having Luann’s love of puns, mime and the theater, but is also not quite as giggly about it and as I said has a bit more of a chill to him, in contrast to how sam is slightly more energetic to Luna’s near constant calm off stage.

I also like him because he’s voiced by Sean Giabrone, an up and coming voice actor who I first met watching the Goldbergs as Adam. His other biggest role so far has been playing Jeff on Clarence, though he’s currently picked up another lead voice roll as Yumulack on Solar Opposites, easily one of the best parts of that show, and has done othe rminor and recurring work, but I feel he’s got the potetial to have a long and fruitful career in voice acting if he wants it. I mean he’s far from the first former ABC star or former Ron Stoppable to make a long and successful voice career of himself. Be the next will fredle man you can do it.

But yeah I like him and think their cute together and feel demonizing a ship for one that had a low chance of happening isn’t fair, especially when you know, we’re in a fandom where incest runs rampant and is STILL a recurring problem to this day. So back in the episode Luann and Coconuts notice Benny signing up for the school play and decide to join him.

Yeah i’ve noticed that a LOT of school set plots are about one of the mains joining a play to either be near or play romantic lead with their crush, or romantic hyjinks happening anyway. Seriously i’ts a lot. I DID think most of them were around romeo and juliet, and Proud Family, Pepper Anne, and Ned’s Declassified all are probably why, it’s actually way more diverse and i’m happy to give credit to shows and movies for that: Jimmy Neutron used Macbeth (IN SPACEEEEEE), American Dragon Jake Long used Antony and Cleopatra, as did the comic strip Foxtrot (That one I remembered), Daria used the canterbury tales, Arrested Development used Much Ado about Nothing, and one of my faviorite instances is the film Get Over it. It’s a cheesy as hell early 2000′s high school pg-13 comedy, that I loved as a teen and nos nostalgicaly love but am aware it has issues and some stitled acting as an adult where our hero joins the high school play in order to win his ex girlfriend back from the douchebag she’s seeing now and ends up falling for his best friend’s kid sister instead. They do a mid summer’ night’s dream, which is not only awesome SOMEONE thought to use that one , as the film has given me a special affection for the play.. but it’s a cheesy musical version written by the gloriously over acted director of the play played by martin short.

My faviorite part of it is the boy band style number about Hermia. Yes really. And I didn’t even get into the fact Siquo is one of the main character’s best friends, Kristin Dunst had to reshoot a scene while making the first rami spider-man , our heroes weird parents who are sex therapists and have no real filter AND offer Coolio a threesome on their advice show, and yes the actual coolio and yes that was an actual person that existed, or best of all the douchey rival who stole our heroes girlfriend, whose not only a former boy band member whose band peformed the song love scud, but also threatens our hero with nunchucks at one point.

Point is this kind of plot is stock.. but it’s the good kind you can do a lot of twists and turns with as every example mentioned, even the ones using the crush thing, had some clever twist or turn. And this one is no exception as we’ll see.

So we meet Ms. Berardo, the schools HAMMY as hell drama teacher who gives herself an entrance and is just wondrously entertaining throughout. She’s played by Grey Delise Griffin, which I could recognize immodestly and man does she bring it. Seriously bring her back. Wonderful character. So our heroine and her leading man audition and in a refreshing change of pace they do not get the lead rolls, instead a modern valley girl and a jock who writes his stuff on his arms do so instead. But since Bernado’s a bit nuts, she decides to have the Montagues and Capulets practice separately despite tha not making a ton of sense, to drive up tension and what not. I mean isolating an actor to drive up tension is a vallid technique but even having not read Romeo and Juliet since high school, over a decade ago, I can tell you they have several scenes together and this is a logistical nightmare. However our heroine finagles her way over to swapping camps so she can talk to Benny since honestly given the whole thing was a way to get to spend more time with him, she might as well quit otherwise. It also.. isn’t a bad tactic. She wants to know him before asking him out properly, which is fair and a good way to go, and they already know each other and are friendly, and it’s something she likes doing anyway as they were both involved with a play in his first appearance and her liking theater makes sense as she’s a comedian, and while she clearly prefers standup, it’s often a natural evolution to go fromt hat to acting in comedy stuff or making your own show, so it’s not a bad idea to learn that side of the buisness too.

So Luann FINALLY gets to talk to Benny.. after fast ball specialing mr coconuts in the way of someone trying to sit down

But we get a really cute moment as the two just.. talk like two dorky teenagers; They talk about the real mimes of la, which I want badly to be a show.. even if it’s just to find out what the Mime from Animaniacs is up to now. Where DID that guy go? Did the anvil finally kill him? These are the kinds of things that keep me up at night.. which is probably why I’m finishing this at 4 in the morning. But the two have genuine chemistry with Luann offering him her banana, phrasing, and making a pun he chuckles at. It’s adorable as all hell.

And Bernardo notices, and since her leads have no sparks she regretfully demotes them.. though their reaction is hilariously realistic as both are just happy to have less lines and walk off. She decides to cast Luann and Benny despite being freshman which would never happen but eh this is a unvierse with a snakebird and spies trying to destroy cherries with a death laser why I do I care two seasons later if two freshman got the leads in the play. Still I love the twist: our hero wasn’t trying to get the lead to creeiply force intamacy or anything.. the two just had natural chemistry and the director noticed that and wants to use it.

But while this should be great.. it isn’t as Luann keeps dodging actually kissing Benny when they rehearse the kiss. The reason.. is really frigging endearing. Luann simply hasn’t kissed anyone before, this will be her first.. and naturally she’s REALLY nervous about having it in front of a crowd or Benny thinking she’s a bad kisser. And I mean... while I had no personal experience at that age in kissing, most media and personal accounts detail it as awkward as fuck. But that’s the irony: she dosen’t KNOW it’s always awkward and thus is putting a ton of pressure on herself like anyone her age.

So she breaks under the pressure despite the reasurances of her Dummy/Possible Sign that she needs therapy and while she finds a way out the next Day Benny has aburbtly quit because of “chess club”.. which he’s not in. Luann finds him and talks to him about it, worried it’s her fault.. and she’s right, though Benny bowed out because she clearly wasn’t comfortable with him and didn’t want to make her kiss him when she clearly wasn’t comfortable with it. What a man what a man what a mighty good man. Luann TRIES to explain.. and then lets Mr Coconuts do it. Which usually in high school would lead to humilating rejection. instead Benny brings out his own puppet Mrs. Appleblossom.

Just those eyes.. black and souless.. like a doll’s eyes.. because htey are a doll’s eyes. So yeah Benny also has a puppet he uses to say the things he’s too nervous to say. Which is endearing even if again , KILL IT. KILL IT. I mean i’ts like tha tone guy from victorious if the puppets were actually charming and one of them looked like it was about to play hide the soul. Mrs. Appleblossom explains that Benny is also nervous and with the air cleared and the two realizing theyw ere nervous about the same thing... the inevitible happens

So that fades into the kiss happening on stage, with Luann’s family cheering her, our heroes take a fookin bow and Coconuts and Appleblossom look on.. and talk somehow...and somehow got in the seats on their own.

Stage Plight Final Thoughts: This episode.. is one of the series best, with great pacing, a low amount of repetition and a relatable conflict, while building up Luann’s love intrest to be a wonderful and engaging guy, and giving us a hell of a guest character and Mrs. Gerardo. This episod eis great, the chemistyr between Gambrone and Pucelli is fantastic. This one is just awesome and worth a look especially if the ship contrversy had hit you hard. It really is good. And there’s always room for benny. Until the next rainbow it’s been a pleasure.
