Life Update!

A lot has happened in the past couple of months and I don't know where to start. Finals got over this week and I am officially left with just one more year of Uni. (omg, what even is time???) But unfortunately I can't say I am back for good like a do after every exam.

There is bigger news! I have got myself an internship, for which I have to move 2000 kilometres away from home. This is the first time I'll be staying away from my family and on my own. Pretty exciting right? I don't know if it's anxiety, excitement or fear I feel but it's a lot of emotions!

So as you can guess, it'll be difficult taking time out to be as active as I used to be on here. Because not just work but adulting and living alone is surely going to take up quite some time from my day. But I'll still try and catch up with everything here, even if I'm not able to write or post works of my own.

I have around 10 days before I leave, so I am going to try and catch up with all the tags I received in the past month. So if you get a notification from a month old work of yours. Don't get spooked it's probably just me. 😂

Finally I just want to say this is my happy place and I'll never be able to leave this hell hole. Idk about you but I miss Meera, Ethan the OH gang and above all writing. So I know I'll always come back. Thank you to everyone who has stuck around. Love you. 💜

Okay so Pujo is 5 days away, I know I know I am phenomenally late, but on the occasion of Mahalaya here's a little something I wrote, I hope you like it and let the pujo celebrations commence!

A/N : This is extremely self indulgent but I finally wrote something after a million years, say you're proud of me 🥺 there's two bengali sentences, I'll translate them at the end❤

Sunlight pours in through the curtains of a room that holds memories. Memories of laughter, of tears, of first loves and first heartbreak, of the thrill of being here with the only one who matters. A double bed with sleep muddled bed sheets warm in the early autumn light, half illuminating the man currently asleep on the bed, unaware of the gentle storm that rages on in the rest of the house.

Downstairs is pandemonium, a storm of dark brown hair and feet tangled in clothes, of fresh wafts of a very familiar jasmine smell and laughter that once was common in the same hallways.

"Ma amar dul gulo kothay?" *

"Ghorei toh ache, bhalo kore khoj" **

Then there's a pattering of bare feet on stairs and the hurricane passes through, leaving calm behind.

When Ethan wakes, for a moment he tries to remember the place around him. Then his mind tries to make sense of the absence of Diana's warm body by his side.

Only after that does he notice the vision in red in the other end of the room. The one peering into the ornate mirror that takes up a fourth of the wall, as she puts on the gold earrings that glints in the early morning sunlight, catching rays and releasing them in the magic of the moment.

For a moment it's difficult to breathe, his mind going back years to those sleepless nights scrolling through her social media, going back years, staring at the unreality of her in her birthland's finery.

The next moment he finds his gaze drawn back to the tumbling dark brown hair that has fallen to her back, a single drop of water travelling across the smooth bronze of her exposed midriff, the sunlight that reflects in the depths of her brown eyes intensely concentrating on attaching the earring hoop.

Then she sees him and turns towards him.

The smile that she sends towards him is enough to make him forget breathing once again.

Like teenagers in the early blooming stages of love, they stare at each other, blinding impossible blue to the grounding storm of rain soaked browns.

Unaware of the hymns being chanted through the loudspeakers, holy words praising the goddess, floating through the air of an Indian autumn.

Neither speaks, their breathless smiles holding the other's heart in the cusp of their hands.

He drinks in the sight of her draped in red, she's a dream in his waking hours, beautiful, untouchable, warm, his.

She drinks in the sight of him in her childhood bedroom, sleep tousled hair, beautiful in the way he's completely hers.

He can't speak, drawn to silence by the sight of the woman he loves, so his voice comes out cracked when he utters, "You look-"

"Acceptable?", she jokes knowing damn well that it can't be further from the truth.

"Beautiful, absolutely beautiful", his voice is fervent, worshipping.

He slowly makes her way towards her, outstretched hand reaching to hold hers.

Once they meet, she squeezes his thrice, her signal of happiness only known to him.

He squeezes back.

They are perfectly, incandescently happy.

A federal appeals court has ruled that transgender students in West Virginia may play on sports teams that align with their gender identity. In a landmark decision on Tuesday, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against a West Virginia law that prohibited transgender girls from participating in girls’ sports teams, deeming it a violation of Title IX, which bars sex-based discrimination in education. The Associated Press reports that this ruling impacts the case of 13-year-old Becky Pepper Jackson, who has identified as a girl since the third grade and is undergoing puberty-blocking treatment.

According to the AP, in February 2023, an interim court decision prevented the state from barring Jackson from her middle school track and field team under this law. Judge Toby Heytens, in his ruling, emphasized that the so-called choice between not playing sports or playing on boys’ teams offered no genuine option. “B.P.J. has been recognized by her community and legally changed her name, and West Virginia has issued a birth certificate listing her sex as female,” Heytens wrote, supporting the view that denying her participation in girls’ teams was discriminatory. Lambda Legal, representing Becky, highlighted the discriminatory nature of the law. “West Virginia’s effort to ban one 13-year-old transgender girl from joining her teammates on the middle school cross country and track team was singling out Becky for disparate treatment because of her sex,” said Lambda Legal staff attorney Sruti Swaminathan. “That’s discrimination, pure and simple, and we applaud the court for arriving at this just decision,” she added.

More than two dozen states have enacted similar laws targeting transgender participation in sports, and this ruling could serve as a precedent, potentially prompting reevaluation of these laws under Title IX considerations. Advocacy groups and civil rights lawyers are closely monitoring these developments, hopeful that the tide may turn in favor of inclusivity and equal rights for transgender athletes at the school level.

Hello everyone! I know I have disappeared quite suddenly. Life has become quite overwhelming with helping my father recover from surgery and starting midsems soon.

It's not that I don't come on here much, I do and I lurk. But with everything happening I don't have energy left to interact, reblog, comment or reply. And I don't want to do it half-heartedly.

So I have been meaning to share this for the longest time, but you know life, exams, blah, blah, blah.

So I have a friend who is in Chennai for studies. She shared a video of her sister dancing with one of her South Indian friends. Her sister was dancing to the national anthem like not the part of national anthem but the rest of the song, you know what I mean?

And her friend straight up said, "Wow, I didn't know there was a Bengali version of the national anthem."

A fun fact : I actually started creating content after getting encouraged by one of these monthly challenges and since then there wasn't looking back. I have always wanted to host a month, and now it feels like a full circle moment for me.
