I didn't realize this wasn't consensus, but as far as I'm concerned Roger abandoned Ace and Rouge, and leaving them to Garp was not remotely enough. He had a year. He could have protected her, found a safe place for her, and been there when Ace was born. She wouldn't have killed herself holding him in.

It's entirely his fault that Ace grows up hating him. If he had protected him and Rouge before he died, Ace would have grown up with a mother who could have told him better stories about his father. He could have grown up proud of him, if Roger was a responsible father with his last year of life.

Roger clearly did whatever he wanted, and that's why he was so connected to Garp, who is basically an older, black mirror government officer version of Luffy. There's a core personality trait that runs between the three of them. It's that utter selfishness, carefree attitude, taken to an insane degree.

Garp didn't parent Ace well either! Neglected him, told him he had to create his worth, instead of seeing a deeply hurt child and saying something comforting or helpful for once in his fucking life. He let Ace be killed, knowing he was a kind gentle person, instead of letting go of his place in an institution of injustice.

(After watching them target Ace, personally I didn't think you could make any argument that Garp doesn't know The World Government is an unjust institution. But now that we've seen him casually watch them commit a genocide and do nothing to stop it, I suspect I'm not gonna have to suffer this rose-tinted view of Garp as much.)

There's a clear message here. Earlier I stated that it's because Garp works for the government that he's callous to the suffering of others, and I still think that's definitely true in part, but Roger shows that just being on the outside of that institution doesn't turn a selfish, carefree person, kind. I mean, he also showed up to that genocide, but we only see him fight for something valuable rather than save anyone.

Ace and Sabo both represent those left behind in both ways of life. Ace of course is a victim of Roger's prioritization of his own desires over people. Sabo is a victim of the government's prioritization of the desires of a select few over all other people.

("All other people", of course includes the children of nobles, who, like all children in societies that give their guardian's complete legal dominion over them, are an incredibly vulnerable population at highest risk of all kinds of abuse from inside their family.)

The difference between Roger & Garp, and Luffy, is that Luffy grew up with Ace and Sabo. He grew up loving them and caring about the ways that they were hurt.

You can't imagine Luffy abandoning anyone, or sacrificing other's freedom.

Also, fuck Roger and Garp. They're enjoyable characters and the way things happened obviously makes the younger characters who they are and makes for a great story, but ohhh my god. Fuck those guys!!!!! It's their own damn fault!!!!

Oh, golly! A known youtuber was recently exposed for plagiarism also turns out to be an extreme misogynist?? Who could've noticed such a thing!

Anyway, since the old men respond... somewhat reasonably to whatever the fuck that was, their kids decide to band together and make their own superhero team, where they get PAID! (less than minimum wage).

Infinity Inc. is an interesting team series that I mostly enjoy because of the characters, a lot of the time in team books the characters all feel the same, and are all at each other's throats constantly, Infinity Inc. presents the reader with characters who all have very defined personalities, even if most of them do share the character trait of "stupid", and by the end of the series you feel like you genuinely love all of the characters and want to spend more time with them.

DC notably decided that all Infinity Inc. characters should spend the next decade dying or going evil btw.

BUT THEN THEY GET BETTER. The Infinitors are kind of notable in that there are entire arcs of JSA 1999 where the old men try to rescue their kids, and all of them end up being considered JSA kids, including Hank who is being chased around the planet by Jay Garrick holding adoption papers (uncertain if this is continuing now that Jay has Judy tbh I do not trust Geoff Johns)

(context, Wildcat hits Hank with the 'kid of a supervillain' stuff well after he thought the JSA was fine with his general existance, my favorite scene because all of the Infinitors are instantly protective, and all of them give vibes of being really close, even if DC refuses to allow a full team reunion)

Honestly in my years of getting people to read Infinity Inc. it's notable that every single time someone has come out with a different fave, and I think it's a testament to the characters being really good, ESPECIALLY HECTOR AND LYTA who are JSA characters and NOT Vertigo characters and Vertigo shouldn't be allowed to stop them appearing in JSA comics.

The overwhelming reaction was positive. Durgetash artists went on Twitter to celebrate, and the small but passionate fans of the ship went nuclear here and on Twitter, and helped BG3 trend, yada yada, tale as old as time.

Most people don't care about Durgetash or Gortash. The majority of people you hear from would be the people who like both of those things. It's also a small ship.

the bidybabs and minireenas have the comprehension capacity of literal toddlers, and waddle around all day, being feral creations that will follow anyone's command if they reward them with cuddles afterwards.

now. my favorite demons. the funtimes, the bons, and lolbit.

first of all, funtime foxy and funtime freddy are dating (funtime frexy for life, i can and will die on this hill), my favorite gay man ship ever. ft. foxy and lolbit are.. cousins? nobody knows what exactly they are, but they're similar enough to be directly related, so they roll with it. bonbon and bonnet have some complicated, old couple drama, and are constantly bickering, much to the annoyance and amusement of the rest of the cast. bonbon and ft. freddy are friends till the end, though, they are each other's ride or die (same with ft. foxy and lolbit)

lolbit is also the fucking psycho prankster. being a non-performing character, and having complete access to the location's networks, he has every opportunity ever to cause chaos. he likes to mess with the night guard, for one, but his favorite thing to do is to ruin ft. foxy's performances by changing the light and overall show cues completely, and instead of playing whatever music or audio that should be on, blasts rick rolls. this went on for a solid multiple months until management finally figured out the problem, and poor lolbit lost his overpowered admin access, leaving him very sad and helpless against the oncoming revenge by ft. foxy.

ballora, baby, the minireenas and bidybabs, bonnet, and ft. foxy have killer girls' nights where they give each other 'makeovers' (they're robots, there's not much they can do besides try and apply shitty makeup) and play a poor mockery of dress up with old night guard outfits, and talk trash about the night guards and the other animatronics, along with starting their Evil Plotting (i lied, that's all you get of ennard)

ft. freddy, ft. foxy, lolbit, and bonbon have the equivalent of middle school boy sleepovers on steroids. they steal workers' phones to try and record tiktoks like they've seen "the modern youth" (- lolbit) do, and cause overall destruction to the location. they just do the stupid stuff you'd think of when you hear the saying "girls live longer than men for a reason," because they're accidentally setting stoves on fire and struggling to operate the fire extinguisher, and at one point, lolbit accidentally turned every single light in the entire building into a non-stop strobe light for a solid two hours, until the system had to be restarted (thanks, handunit.)

I find homophobia interesting as a thing to study. It makes so little sense to me that I have to look for explanations for why such a stupid hatred would exist.

Racism is bad, but at least I understand the purpose that it played, from an over arching imperialist/capitalist perspective. What did the occasional person being gay do that we (society in the late 20th century) had to put so much effort into making it so unacceptable?

Well, for one, by the 90s men and women hated each other. So there had to be something to make them fuck, in an era where one of the gayest things a man could do was Not hate women (Golden Girls).

Men and Women used to have separate Spheres of Existence. The paid labor and the reproductive (here meaning anything housework as well as birthing) labor overlapped very little, and the woman and children the (money making) man had at home was assumed and subsumed. If you let women into the workforce, then you have to admit we're all the same. Women take over man jobs, that's just evening out. But jobs women used to do go to men once they become good (computer programming)

Those good jobs don't take the "male skill" of upper body strength anymore, so if there's no reason to be a man, many of them would quit (that's fine)! I will agree that the loss of Good Manufacturing Jobs in the US is effeminizing our men (that's good); and it's pushing men into jobs that women were doing before (bad jobs).

I think homophobia was the last gasp of the divided labor. My evidence:

It's not that gay people are evil. It's that evil people (money makers) have already shed off at least one of the rules that keep us nice to each other, so after becoming evil you may as well give in to the other evil pressures and just be gay then?

A9. Who was your first ship?

The earliest ship I remember that I got actually invested in is Reaper76 from Overwatch. I mean, traumatized old gay men who like to shoot at each other and have a HistoryTM? It covers all the basics for me. Also this ship is what made me find AO3, so it kinda introduced me to fandom as a whole and is therefore technically responsible for all the madness that came after it.

B9. Who is your OTP?

You know, I was going to say this is a hard question because I have so many pairings I like in several fandoms and I dont really pick favorites because I like different aspects about them and also Im indecisive. And then I remembered Symbrock. And nothing really comes near the level of absolutely messy devotion of (comics!)Symbrock. So yeah.

C6. Is there anything in canon that made you want to quit the show? What was it? Why do you hate it?

Oh boy, here we go... So not a show, but allllll the shit Cates did with absolute garbage & co and what came after essentially made me quit venom comics and comics in general. Do I even need to explain myself? Like I was keeping up with Venom and also Spider-man and some others because it was fun and enjoyable. And then came the egregious retconning, inconsistencies, character butchering (both how they were written but also literally), characters dying and coming back and dying again and coming back again and fucking gods apparently and how every single issue was The Most Shocking And Dramatic Things The Characters Have Ever Been Through and everything is just edgy and grimdark and angsty and so fucking STUPID and it was just. It wasnt fun or enjoyable anymore, only exhausting and frustrating and sad. And not sad like a sad story makes you feel, but sad like watching something you care about irreparably crash and burn in real time without being able to do anything about it and knowing you can never have it back the way it was (which there is enough of IRL). So I powered through until king in black where I just said "reading this bullshit is draining and depressing and doesnt bring me anything, its not worth it anymore so fuck it" and just stopped. And with my main reason for reading comics gone I ditched marvel comics altogether because lets be honest keeping up with all the different stories and timelines and crossovers and whatnot is exhausting cuz theres just so damn much going on all the time. And why torment yourself with shitty canon when you can have wonderful fanfics tailored to your specific tastes all for free? So I quit comics, read fics instead, got into some new fandoms, indulged my hc and have ever since been living blissfully unaware of the burning dumpster fire (derogatory) that is canon. I only see glimpses of it when it crosses my dash, which I use for cherrypicking for my hc and aggressively ignore the rest.

D10. What is one story idea you really want to read but no one has written yet?

I have a whole lot of story ideas I really want to read (my hcs) that no one has written yet (that would be cuz of me not writing them). But for real, I would love more stories with symbiote & spider-people shenanigans. Like there was this one comic of Peter, Miles and Gwen meeting Venom and fighting Doc Ock toghether and they were kinda buddies? More stuff like that, that has spider/symbiote interaction besides them just trying to kill each other. Maybe it exists and I just havent found it. But like, Venom in spiderverse, they have to team up with the spider gang and they kinda get along because he doesnt have any personal beef with them. He will absolutely recite and discuss Shakespear with that medieval spiderman, be enamored with little Mayday, and be nothing but gentlemanly toward spider ma'am. The other spiders find that "yeah he is freaky and has some dubious morals but isnt actually just an evil monster, he just doesnt like you Peter". The Peter in question does not like it one bit. Him and Venom (barely) tolerate each other, as they always do when they team up, but are constantly petty and passive aggressive towards each other in a funny way, bickering like an old married couple. Because of the nature of their history they also know stuff about each other and will casually drop highly personal details about the other that makes the other spiders go "👀 you sure he's your enemy and not just your ex?". Which Peter likes even less. Other story ideas i desperately need is ANYTHING WITH ANTI-VENOM HOLY SHIT WHERE IS MY BABY!?!?!?! I need stories that let him be a silly dumbass and a pathetic wet beast and occasionally getting railed that dont just exist in my head. But the amount of content on him is just dismal. I often feel like the sole inhabitant of the ghost town that is the Anti-Venom fandom. I've come across one (1) quality fic that portrays him properly (thank you @kitausuret for your invaluable service) and good art is hard to come by compared to other characters. And I realize that if I want more art of him and an Anti-Venom x Agent Venom arch-enemies-to-reluctant-allies-to-even-more-reluctant-friends-to-how-the-hell-did-this-happen excruciating slow burn, I will probably have to do it myself, which hghgnghgnhhh will take forever, but oh well.

I just need to rant okay. As a kid who has grown up hearing pretty much everyone complain about the government this and our horrible society that I’m honestly just… done all around. Fathershipping, undoubtably. I know Most sub Fans are crazy about scientistshipping (which I do ship, to a lesser scale) but I find Fathershipping cuter. It’s funnier because the dub leans farther into Fathershipping and the sub leans more into scientistshipping. For context in episode 55, when Byron and Kazuma sit by the fire he makes a comment about faker being a good friend, but in the dub it’s changed so that Kazuma talks about how much of a good friend Byron is or smth to that effect. Funny detail I noticed :3

Like. Byron literally ASKS Kazuma to let him go into the portal (where he could’ve presumably died) because he wanted him to be safe instead of him. It takes SO MUCH to want to die for someone. There were also two tents in episode 55. THEY ARE LITERALLY IMPLIED TO HAVE SLEPT TOGETHER AUGHHH

You know how Vetrix wasn’t reverted back to his original body? And how he’s just this stupid little baby man who has to go through puberty again? Yeah. I need more bad straights

Unpopular opinion time. I've seen multiple variations of "I wanna see more villains who are..." and it's usually traits that we've already seen in villains, possibly to excess, like "queer-coded" and "charming."

I want to see villains that reflect the villains of our real world. I want a cold, lucid finger pointing at what evil actually is.

In our world, the evil ones are the most boring fucking heterosexuals you can imagine. The politicians. The CEOs. The callous neoliberal sons and daughters of the politicians and CEOs. The fucked up little shit-nosed assholes who make some technological hoozy-whatzit at 26, sell it for ten billion dollars at 29, and then promptly start the weapons development company of their darkest nightmares.

I want villains that are just war in a baggy suit. I want to leave all the queer charm and cleverness and jokes to our heroes. I give the bad haircuts, the family values, the paperwork, the miserable empire, the shitty corporate rap music, the affinity for abstracting real violence, the pathetic need for public validation, the errors of logic dressed up as respectability, the endless hunger for money and the stupid drab pointless things the money gets spent on, the shitty carpets and childishly bad art and prostitutes and gilded-gold real estate, to the villains.

In Donald Trump's 2016 victory speech, he said: "I will harness the creative talents of our people, and we will call upon the best and brightest to leverage their tremendous talent for the benefit of all. It is going to happen."

I loved that Trump used that phrase in his victory speech. Historian David Halberstam coined "the best and the brightest" in his book of the same name. He meant it ironically, referring to the elite, monied, Harvard-educated morons who brought on the Vietnam War.

I want villains who are the best and the brightest. I do not mean I want to see another thinly-concealed Donald Trump in the pages of a fiction book; authors have already tried that and it always comes off as pedantic and trite. I mean I want weaponized heteronormativity and charmlessness in my villains; idiosyncrasies as simultaneously dull and unsettling as those of the people who run the cogs of evil in real life.

When writers describe the bombastic villains they want to see, I often think of legendary revolutionaries like Ho Chi Minh, who had 50 different aliases, faked his own death multiple times, defeated two world superpowers despite being outmanned and outpowered at every turn, and toward the end of his life said merely, "An old man likes to have a little air of mystery about him."

But the thing is: Whether or not Ho Chi Minh was the villain depends on whether the story is being told from the empire's point-of-view. Who are the bad guys in your story? If it's your instinct to make the bad guys queer—why?

If you're doing a loopty-loop where the bad guys are the good guys, etc, that's fine, but I see that being framed as "these are the villains!" in a lot of discourse, and that framing doesn't leave room for actual villains.

I think it is concerning that "the best and the brightest" is not a villain archetype in the way that just, like, flamboyant gay men are. I want heroes with the pizzazz of beloved villains, and villains that remind us of who the real bad guys are.

Lastly are viral meme accounts that usually have a black person in the profile, get hundreds of thousands of notes despite being fairly recent accounts and post the same tweet word for word every few days about 'not dreaming of labour ' or basic relationship posts like 'when y'all get to the handholding in public stage 😩😍🥴👌👍🔥💯💯' or ancient recycled Tumblr jokes.

I think that site has as many bots as people claim because so many people just seem cookie cutter. At least on Tumblr the nonsense seems organic. Most of it seems very American focused and the Us VS them attitude is way worse than anything I’ve seen here. 

There are people that aren’t in any of these groups but these ones seem to dominate from what I saw. I know there’s an algorithm at work but not sure how it affects things

I'm gonna have a look a little longer but think I'll delete soon, definitely rots the brain. Anything good will be filtered here.
