hii if u don't mind, any metal bands you'd recommend for someone wanting to get into slightly more obscure stuff but doesn't know where to start digging? any subgenre/time period idc. asking u this bc i trust ur knowledge

it's hard for me to give specific recs because i don't know what you've vibed with so ill meet you half way and give you a list as well as some places to learn more just in case i end up in the wrong direction.

these are some bands that clicked for me when i was first exploring outside my comfort zone, as well as some stuff from my aoty from the last few years:

Possessed - Seven Churches; this one is the least obscure but i feel like possessed are easy to miss. important band bridging the gap between thrash and death metal. love crazy maniac shit like this

Satan- Court in the Act; classic new wave of british heavy metal with a bit of edit. type of band that had enormous pull in underground power and speed metal scenes- this is a blueprint for a lot of great obscure heavy metal with the soaring vocals and the tappy solos. i love chastain (american, mid/late 80s response) if you want to see that lineage in effect

Mystifier - Goetia; brazilian metal is a huge huge historically important metal phenomenon. sepultura are more well-known and sarcofago are cult classic black metal pioneers (seriously, inri is one of the greats) but mystifier is a band that opened up the scene for me a little more and is incredible in their own right

Autopsy - Metal Funeral; slow, gripping death metal carnage!! also one of the few legacy bands continuing to release actual good music which is fun. also, if you like the autopsy you'll love derketa, dream death, mythic, winter, all of whom make their own twist on a similar crushing brand of doomy death metal goodness

Sabbat- Envenom; long-running old-school japanese black metal. has that thrashy-punk first wave flavor along the lines of celtic frost, root, bulldozer (also sarcofago) and sodom at their most brutal.

Sacrilege- Behind the Realms of Madness; crusty thrash that had a huge influence on early bolt thrower. good if you're into punk already and want more of that in the metal (their later records lose the crust but gain doom- I almost like them more. killer band)

Vastum. any of their records seriously maybe the best active band on the planet rn.

Warning- Watching from a Distance; if you got to metal through my mcr blog then i think you can handle the whiny vocals on this and get a legit transformative experience out of Warning. seriously love this album, delightfully heavy doom in an emotional package. and doom is easy to rec, satisfying and not to extreme: Pentagram, Candlemass, Trouble, and Saint Vitus are all must must listens

Chevalier- Destiny Calls; combination of speed and power i really love in the classic heavy metal fantasy and knights vein. newer band too with a lot of similar listening to bigger bands in that scene. and if you like this style at all manilla road (the band) is a requirement if you aren't already familar

Some eclectic newer stuff I've enjoyed lately: Vicious Blade, Tyrann, Reverend Bizarre, Nekromantheon, Firmament, Svalbard, Vampirska, Ares Kingdom, Messa

but i really recommend checking out r/metal- their essentials is good for a beginner but they also have a ton of primers that can give you overviews of niche genres. the fenriz metal spotify playlist is also fuckin killer. For new music, look into reviews from sites like angrymetalguy, no clean singing, heavy blog is heavy, invisible oranges. helpful to know how your taste aligns with the writing staff (like i know if angrymetalguy dislikes something, im almost guaranteed to like it). shreddit has a release tracker on spotify; there's also a constant update of new releases on the metal archive!

hiii do u have any recommendations for hair products that are really effective for regaining moisture/strength? im trying to go back to my natural color after a bunch of dyeing & also trying to take better care of my hair. it’s just really split & dry & i try deep conditioning/leave in conditioner but i was wondering if u have any specific recs? thank uuu💘💘💘

Yes! So id kinda separate hair products into two categories: ones that really do make a long term effect on the integrity of your hair and products that make your hair look better without actually "repairing" it. Very few products actually fall into the first category, and don't think that products that fall into the second category aren't also suuuuper helpful. For products that actually will make your hair stronger/less broken k18 or olaplex are your best bets! I use olaplex no 3 once a week- I spray my hair with water and saturate it, then shampoo.. it definitely makes a difference. I've used k18 in the past and it also works really well! For the rest, I recommend using a sulfate free shampoo or cowash type of thing bc it helps with damaged hair texture (frizzy dry unmanageable) I really like eva NYC mane magic shampoo, all their shampoos are good tbh. Rn I use olaplex repairing shampoo and I really like how my hair feels after washing, like not too clean... For conditioner I go to Sally's and buy a humongous container of Biotera long & healthy, I swear by it and it's not too expensive. But there are lots of good conditioners, just make sure to use enough and really scrunch it in. The olaplex oil is good for smoothing texture from damaged hair as well, but the best oil for color damaged hair is bumble & bumble invisible oil for sure, it saves my hair if I overwash... Another thing is washing your hair less frequently so find a dry shampoo you like! I like the normal batiste one with no smell. Also eva NYC leave in products are amazing, everything in the mane magic line is really good, esp the primer. Hope this helps :)

is the elf poreless putty primer really worth the hype ? should i buy it, or should i go for the mac fix + (since i KNOW it'll work but it is a bit pricey for my budget) ? what primer do u use ? thanks ! <3

I would try it out and see if you like it. Like with a lot of skin products, whether you'll like it or not really depends on your skin type, what other products you're using, and how you like your skin to look. The ELF Poreless Putty Primer seems like it's not great for skin that's really dry or really acne-prone. But it does seem to work well for the majority of people and it's inexpensive, so I think it's worth trying. If you prefer a spray like the MAC Fix +, the E.L.F Matte Magic Mist & Set Spray or NYX Professional Dewy Finish Makeup Setting Spray may be a less expensive alternative.

My first ever custom doll!

I found a Barbie at the thrift store last month that I thought had cool articulation, and finally decided I wanted to try doll customizing! So here's my whole process so far!!

Here's my first basic concept art. Shes inspired by the song "Girls in Bikinis" by Poppy, who I don't listen to that often but I think this song is so funny and cute, and I loved the visual of "girls in bikinis on roller skates in outer space" so much. Shes supposed to be a newt-like lady alien with a cute bikini and thigh high roller skates!

I liked the amount of articulation that this barbie had, but I don't actually really like Barbie bodies. (Or most other fashion doll bodies) the whole Xtra long legs and torso thing just isn't usually my personal jam. So! I decided Id cut her up and put her back together with a body type I preferred for this particular project. On the left of the page is the dolls original silhouette I traced down for reference, and on the right is my plan for how I wanted her to look when I was done. After I cut her up into the right pieces I hot glued her back together.

I used Apoxie Sculpt to bulk up the areas that needed bulking. I also sanded down her cone boobs because I wanted her to have a slightly more realistic chest shape. (I'm not totally pleased with how the shape of the boobs that I sculpted came out, but it's my first attempt at doing any of this so that's ok. They're kind of sticking straight forward in an odd way but she'll have a bikini top on soon so it'll be less noticeable.)

I wanted to try out La Doll clay, so I used that to make some basic shapes on her calves and feet. Im not sure how I like it! I think ive heard it's great for a first pass of things, and not really for detail work, which seems accurate. I also modified her neck to fit with the head of another thrift doll I picked up. (I believe the head donor was supposed to be Rapunzel??) Bc I personally hate Barbie face sculpts. They're so blobby and have weird pits where the eyes should be.

I wanted her to look more alien, so I have her 3 fingered chameleon hands and added some spikes to her forearms, thighs, shoulders, and the nape of her neck that will eventually be turned into fins with some pretty iridescent fabric. Then I took her outside to spray with primer! My makeshift drying rack does look like some Blaire Witch shit, I know.

Aaaand...

Ta-Daaaa

Here she is all primed!! Shes not perfect, there's definitely some lumps and bumps that make the sculpted additions pretty obvious, and I'm not overly satisfied with how her body shape turned out. (I think the arms look kind of noodley and weird, also her butt looks a little diapery) I also made her neck really long on purpose and I'm HOPING that it will look a little spooky and alien-like rather than uhh . Shitty? Also her lower legs and feet are going to be totally covered up by her skates so I didn't bother refining any of the sculpting there. I just wanted to get the basic shapes down to fill out the shoes.

Ok!! That is all for now!! I'm waiting on my pastels and MSC to arrive in the mail so I can start giving her color!! If you read this thank u for reading and also leave a name suggestion for me in the replies :)

hi you seem to know about makeup - i never got into makeup growing up and most of my female friends don't wear much makeup so they wouldn't be much help, but what would you suggest as like basic makeup/brands for someone who wants to look a bit nicer but doesn't know what they're doing at all ? i've tried putting on a liquid liner like 25 times but my hands shook so much and always it looks horrible. i feel embarrased being 18 and not knowing how to do this lol thanks for any help !

hi sorry that this response is a couple days late!

first, you definitely shouldn't feel embarrassed, makeup isn't for everyone, and, if you do want to use it, it's never too late to learn. i'm gonna rec some brands across different price ranges that i think are good for getting into makeup!

for drugstore options, covergirl, wet n wild, and nyx are my personal faves- covergirl is prob best to start though as they have more tame options than the latter.

the brand colourpop is also a really affordable option, they are available mainly on their own website. they have great products and brushes that are priced really well! if u wanna check out eyeshadow their 16-pan palettes are a great starting point as they have so many dif palettes, and the formula is great. something i wish i knew when i was younger and starting to use eyeshadow tho is that u do need an eyeshadow primer, which can be a product on it's own (urban decay & nars have good ones) or u can put some concealer on your lids and set it w powder!

and for good beginner brands that are more high-end, nars, anastasia beverly hills, and tarte are good places to start! nars has some of the best base products (concealer, foundation, blush, bronzer etc) that i've ever used!!

A Helping Hand... er, Brush

Loba x Wraith. Wraith needs to put on makeup for a talk show interview, but has no idea how to do makeup. Fortunately, a certain lady notices, and lends her a hand. (1.2k words. @soulheartthewolf kept ya waitin huh?)

“Hnnnng… dammit!”

Wraith sighed, closing the makeup kit and resting her chin on her palms, staring at her face in the mirror. She honestly had no idea what she was doing.

Her eyeliner was smudged and sloppy, her eye shadow was overdone to say the least, the contour looked like it was done by a three year old trying to fingerpaint, and she had no idea how to make her eyebrows “pop” like the email asked. Not to mention the fact that she didn't even attempt to do the mascara. 

The only thing she knew how to handle with makeup was the primer and the foundation, but that was only because she had to, to be on camera for the games. Besides that, she knew next to nothing about makeup. Besides the fact that the new girl definitely knew her way around it…

“Having trouble, meu bem?” 

Right as she was thinking about her, Loba’s voice comes from behind her, getting louder little by little as she approaches. Wraith glanced at her, before looking back at the mirror. “Well, saying I’m struggling would be an understatement at best,” she confessed, “And a lie at worst.” 

“Aw, bebê…” Loba sighed, Wraith feeling her fingers going across her shoulder. She sat next to her, on the counter. "You aren't usually the makeup type. Are you going somewhere… fancy?" 

"It's for an interview," she answered quickly, trying to hide the frustration in her voice. "Talk show type thing. The email they sent specifically requested 'non-arena attire,' makeup included. And I know next to nothing about that." 

She grabbed a wet wipe, removing the botched attempt from her face as best she could. She then hung her head, sighing. The interview was only in a few hours, and she had no idea what to do… 

Loba hooked a finger under her chin, gently lifting her head up to face her. "Hmm…" She was almost scanning Wraith's face, thinking something up.

She blushed, not quite used to this kind of attention. It felt… weird, but… nice. "U-uhh, what are you…?" She stammered, Loba moving her head to look at all the angles of her face.

“Don’t move,” Loba ordered, going to her area. Wraith heard her moving things around, searching and mumbling, before a triumphant “Aha!” Loba reemerged, sauntering over like she usually did. She dropped a pretty big handbag on the counter, smirking. “Do you mind if I take a crack at it, amor?” 

Wraith seemed confused, looking between Loba and the bag, before settling on staring at Loba’s… gorgeous face. “...You… want to do my makeup for me?” 

“Of course…” She gently drags a finger along Wraith’s jaw, making her shudder. “I never want a girl to think she’s not worthy of the camera.”

Wraith blushed cutely, tearing her eyes away from Loba, but not her face. As to let Loba do her work, of course. “…Well… go ahead.”

Loba immediately got to work, pulling out… something, and gently dabbing it around her cheeks, forehead, nose, and under her eyes. She pulled out a brush, wiping around those same areas. “Once I’m done with you, I promise, the first question they’ll ask is who did your makeup.”

“…Loba… you really don’t need to do this,” Wraith mentioned, as Loba pulled out another brush. “Seriously. I’m sure they have a makeup artist-”

“Would you prefer highlighter, bronzer or blush?”

“…Huh?”

Loba pulled out three… discs with a color inside them, one a paler color, one pinkish, and one that was a darker color, but similar to the first. “Which one do you think would work the most with your skin?”

Wraith hesitated, before pointing to the first one. “That one, I… guess.”

Loba nodded, putting the other two away, and gently brushing some of it along her left cheek. “Amor, would you rather have a random person who’s never met you before attempt to make you beautiful, with no consideration for your input?” She switched to the other cheek. “Or someone who’s fought alongside you in battle, who knows your strengths and weaknesses, your personality, and who does understand that you have an opinion?”

Wraith paused, blushing a little, not quite expecting this level of… intimacy, even from Loba. “…I… well… I’d prefer the latter.”

“Exactly,” Loba responded. She proceeded to pull out a palette of various colors that Wraith recognized as eyeshadow. “Do you want purple or red?” 

She pointed her eyeshadow brush at a bright red, which definitely wouldn’t work, and at a darker purple… that kinda reminded her of the void. “Uhh… the purple,” she responded.

“Good choice,” Loba smiled. “Close your eyes.”

Wraith did, and she couldn’t help but think of how intimate this all was. Loba was standing over her, so close to her face, having full control of the situation… but still making an effort to be gentle with her. It felt… nice.

“And now for the eyeshadow…” Loba mused. 

She didn’t remember a time when someone was this close to her, being so careful not to hurt her… until something came to mind. A flash, a memory of the labs. The scientists experimenting on her. But they didn’t treat her like a person. To them, she was nothing but a test subject. Their fragile little guinea pig, not to be harmed, but only because they wanted to keep their sick little experiments going… 

She snapped out of it when she felt Loba gently shaking her shoulder, Wraith opening her eyes. “Is everything alright, amor?” She asked, concerned. “Your hear… breathing was quicker than usual.”

“…Y-yeah,” Wraith replied, taking a deep breath. “…Uhh… anything else?”

Loba visibly relaxed, with a gentle smile, pulling out a couple more things. “Mmhmm. Your lips.”

“Oh… duh.”

Loba giggled, ordering her to, “Hold still. This is harder than you might think.”

Wraith did as asked, holding still. Loba gently pressed something to her upper lip, then to the lower one. “Now, the most important aspect of any look…” Loba mumbled, Wraith hearing her unscrew some tubes of lipstick. She then showed her three colors of lipstick, a light purple, a teal, and a dark purple that was a similar shade to the eyeshadow. “Thoughts?” 

She paused. The dark purple would look nice, but the light would be a nice contrast to the eyeshadow… “I think… I think the light purple would look better,” she answered.

Loba nodded, gently pressing it to her lips, applying a layer or two, before pulling back, and putting everything back. She looked back at Wraith’s face one last time, admiring her work with a smile on her face. “Want to see the finished product, amor?”

After a moment, Wraith nodded, sitting up and looking at the mirror. What she found made her jaw drop, with a murmured “Holy shit…”

It was gorgeous. The eyeshadow looked like the night sky, her lips had a perfect purple to compliment her eyes, her cheeks seemed like they were glowing, and she somehow didn’t notice Loba making her mascara and eyebrows absolutely perfect. She almost didn’t recognize herself, it was so good.

“Are you happy with that, beautiful?” Loba casually wrapped an arm around her shoulders, making Wraith blush slightly. 

“It’s… I-it’s perfect,” She stuttered, looking down in embarrassment, before looking up at her. “Th… thanks.”

Loba smiled, patting her on the back. “They’re going to love you,” She reassured her. 

Wraith smiled sheepishly, blushing again. “…Okay. …Wish me luck.”

“Boa sorte.” Loba winked at her, taking her makeup bag and sauntering away. Flustered, Wraith went to change from her casual attire to something that the talk show might accept… preferably a skirt of some kind.

A/N: I haven’t written a fanfic in a while jesus christ. If this is entirely incomprehensible, blame me for being rusty lul. Also remind me to never write about makeup again

Song of the Week

I worked on this for like 20 minutes, and then Tumblr ate it. I’m minorly livid about it. Now to rewrite.

Honorable Mentions:

For something distinctly trippy and cool, look to GOND with Hotel Room, a synthy rap track that uses its synths just as importantly as the distinct silences peppered throughout the track. The raps are solid, the autotune makes perfect sense, and the music only chorus takes the themes and expands. There are surprises every verse in the best way. This is avant garde in music form.

Park Seo Joon sighting, ft. an actress I recognize but annoyingly cannot place.

Please listen to Jo Gwangil, I need everyone to discover him. His flow is so so so damn good. He does rap about pretty dark stuff, like so dark that Depersonalization has a warning on the beginning about imagery. But he feels raw and honest in a way I haven’t heard as much recently, and he does while creating like 90% of a songs rhythm from his own mouth. This track has a bit more from that point of view, but is still fairly sparse, and has sections that are nearly empty besides his voice. P.S, if you are easily squeamish, there is a clean version. And now for a new segment, idol roundup, where I mention every single idol I watch, in the hopes of remembering for myself as well as catching when I miss ones that don’t go to the compilation channels. The girls got shafted this week for sets.

- Only You by Saturday. This sounds and looks like a b-side. Sweet bubble gum pop I have negative interest in.

- X by Chungha. X feels very different for Chungha, but makes sense for a female soloist in K-pop.

- Lemon Candy by Pink Fantasy: I don’t find anything particularly special or interesting about this, but it’s fine.

- Love So Sweet - Cherry Bullet: I get why people like Cherry Bullet a little bit more, but I like the first verse more than the whole rest of the song.

- No diggity by ONEUS: It’s fine, but it doesn’t draw me in the same way as some of their other tracks have. Also it kind of looks like they took like every VIXX video and said, “we’ll use them all” for the visual concept.

- My Turn by Cravity: This is what happens when your company seems Stray Kids and NCT and decides that success is the average of the 2. I still don’t know what Cravity’s sound is.

I have many words to say about U-Know’s Thank U. But before I get carried away about the video, let’s address the song. It is sexy and cool and instantly recognizable as Yunho. TVXQ is the only group I can think of who have an overarching discography between that not only sounds cohesive, but still manages to have distinctive and obvious differences between each solo effort and the pair as a duo. You know this is a TVXQ member’s track right away, while also knowing it is specifically Yunho’s through some magic of consistency. And this video is so damn good. It is plot driven in the year 2021 of our lord, with a plot that doesn’t require reading a primer by a fan who is way more into this stuff than you to understand. Yunho not only has multiple wonderful set piece stunt fights (that seem to all actually be him, or at least a majority) but also dances that come from those same scenes? And mostly fit the vibe? Not to mention the frankly stunning visuals. Honestly, you could write a paper about this 7 minute MV and get credit in a film studies class. I hope that this means that post army Yunho will get an action movie/drama role (hopefully his acting has improved while he was in the army; god knows it couldn’t get worse). Anyways, go watch and listen and enjoy the power of experience.

Subtle and sweet was not the sound I expected from an Epik High comeback, but that’s what Based on a True Story is. Heize sounds great, and the beat feels different for Epik High in the best way, especially with the orchestral backing. The accordion is a nice touch. Rosario on the other hand makes absolute sense for them. It again sits on a slightly different beat for Epik High, which is always a great thing to hear from them, and has incredible verses from Tablo, Mithra Jin and Zico, as well as a great chorus from CL. If you want the full effect, you probably should spend some time with Born Hater first, because Rosario feels like a lyrical successor, and more obviously a visual and spiritual successor. Epik High has always made great collabs, but this pair fit into the same theme. They are all a response to a specific type of hate. Born Hater is about people complaining about people being overrated/untalented. Hell, there is a reference to Zico in it by Mino (an apt call out at the time). Rosario is a response to the title of has-been, and a bit the idea of current idols paving the way. Having Epik High, CL and Zico in a room puts that even more into perspective, as all of them are known for their contributions in one way or another. Epik High are hugely popular and well known rappers to basically anyone who isn’t just an idol fan. CL has proven that you can be a female rapper who goes solo and still kills the game. And Zico is the first truly successful idol producer. All of them have made huge contributions to the Korean music industry, but are often ignored by younger fans who don’t know their history. Well, here’s a place to learn it.

Short aside: Tablo’s verses are so damn well written basically always, that even the translations have to work hard on them. And I bet they miss out some of the subtleties. Also, his verse in Rosario is the only one that combats a different issue, definitely turn on subtitles for it.

Both Thank U and Rosario are important to me for different reasons, and they both win.

Movie Star

A/N Hello! This is another fun idea I’ve had, I want to write more so let me know if u like it! It’s Sirius x reader fake relationship trope cause I’m yet to do that and YES PLEASE anyway enjoyyyy lel

Y/N stared in the mirror. She was wearing her nicest pair of jeans and cropped black flowing top with matching black boots that she had spent three hours shining last night. She’d even done her hair so it curled softly down her shoulders, having practiced it for the last week. She’d done everything she had planned for today, a whole binder sitting in her bag (that she’d also polished), healthy snacks and sunglasses and a small bottle of vodka, just in case, but she couldn’t move from the mirror.

It was her first day on set. Ever. Living in LA had been one of the most challenging and painful thing Y/N had ever done, and she had been very close to driving home and just fucking becoming a full-time taco bell server but she received a call two days previous for a tv series role because the girl originally offered it had been offered to play Meryl Streep’s daughter in some likely million dollar movie.

“Y/N, get the fuck out of the bathroom and leave!” Lily’s voice screamed from the hall, her fists banging loudly against the door.

“I just… I just need a minute!” Y/N called back, flattening out her hair again. You can do this. You’ve read the script. A lot. A lot a lot. You’ve got this. Or maybe you’re going to fall flat on your face.

“I swear to god, Y/N, if you miss your first day I will actually kill you.” Lily was banging with her foot now and Y/N groaned.

“Ok, ok, fine. I’m coming out.” Y/N steeled herself and turned on her heel, marching out of the room. “How do I look?”

Lily gave her a once over, her lips pursed.

“Hot as hell, but just professional enough.”

“Perfect, ok I should go shouldn’t I,” Y/N picked up her bag and swung it over her shoulder.

“Please do.”

Y/N pulled Lily into a tight hug and moved quickly out of the room. Lily called ‘Good luck’ loudly as Y/N slammed the door shut, struggling to pull her keys out of her bag with the amount of crap she had put inside it.

The drive was thankfully quick, and she pulled up to the lot in 23 minutes and 30 seconds feeling increasingly nervous and slightly worried that she might puke.

“ID,” the security guard sounded incredibly bored.

“Yes, right of course! It’s my first day so…” Y/N trailed off as she noticed the security guard had turned back to her phone. “Uh, here it is.”

The guard looked at it, checking the database before waving her through, the boom gate opening slowly. Y/N thanked the guard and drove through to the parking lot.

“Ok, lot 34, 34…” Y/N mumbled as she checked her phone, “Where the fuck is this.”

There seemed to be no numbers on any building, people moving left and right and screaming aggressively for her to move out of the way.

“Sorry! Fuck I cannot be late,” Y/N swore under her breath, feeling her heart rate increasing at the thought of being late and the director just firing her on the spot for being a trash actress who can’t even find a bloody set on time. She re-opened the email sent to her with the maps and details about the set, zooming in on 34 and trying to match it up where she’d walked from the parking lot, and smoothly slammed into someone’s back.

“Oh my god I’m so sorry,” Y/N winced, leaning over to pick up her bag and the things that had fallen across the floor.

“It’s totally fine,” a deep voice replied, the person she’d bumped into turning and bending down to help her out. “Here’s your… vodka?”

Y/N stood up and met the person’s eyes, nearly choking on her own spit. In front of her was the stupidly gorgeous, incredibly famous Sirius Black. He looked even better in person, and, frustratingly, had a goofy smile playing on his face as he handed her the bottle of alcohol.

“Oh, uh, I just am not really sure if I might need some kind of bribe and now that I’m saying it it sounds really idiotic, thank you.” Y/N grimaced, wanting to crawl into a hole.

“First day on set, huh?” Sirius laughed, popping the bottle into her bag.

“How did you guess,” Y/N sighed, “I’m very lost, any chance you would know where lot 34 is?”

“I would actually, it’s where I’m going as well.”

“I… oh.” Y/N had forgotten to read the cast list. In all her planning and panicking and memorising every aspect of the script and characters that she could, she’d forgotten to read the fucking cast list.

“You must be Y/N then? Replacing Amanda?” Sirius began leading the way towards set, Y/N struggling to keep up with his long legs and attempting to avoid staring at his perfectly styled dark curls that hung just above his shoulders.

“Yes! I got the call a few days ago.”

“You look familiar, what else have you been in?” Sirius pulled open a door to his right, letting Y/N go in first.

“Oh I actually… um… haven’t – “

“Y/N, Sirius, please get into hair and makeup we needed you on set 10 minutes ago!” A girl with bright blonde hair and a wild expression pointed towards two caravans to the side of the room. Y/N apologised and moved quickly away, having never been more thankful to be interrupted. She pushed the door open to hair and make-up, looking around awkwardly.

“Hey there! Y/N?” A girl with short brown hair and bright pink spiky earrings grinned at her.

“Yep, that’s me.” Y/N followed her into the small room that was covered in boxes of different make up, paints and wigs hanging up against the walls. The entire front of the caravan was covered in mirrors, a chair in front of each one.

Y/N sat down in the chair the girl directed to, staring at herself awkwardly in the mirror.

“I’m Alice, I’ll be your hair and make-up gal for this season, hopefully the next one but here’s hoping it’s picked up,” Alice began to fiddle with Y/N’s hair, pulling it up and around her shoulders whilst she spoke. “So have you read through the whole script? It’s definitely the coolest thing I’ve worked on so far, and lets be real we’ve all dreamed of working with Sirius.”

Alice actually waggled her eyebrows, grinning at Y/N.

“Yeah it sounds like a cool story,” Y/N mumbled, her eyes watching Alice’s hands closely, wondering what she was going to do to her.

“So cool!” Alice pulled her hair up into a bun, pining up the loose strands and standing in front of the mirror to look at her face. “I’ve gotta ask, how did you react when you found out you were getting to kiss Sirius? I think I would have screamed the house down.”

Alice giggled, grabbing out a brush and primer, beginning to smear it across her face. Y/N resisted closing her eyes and smiling absent-mindedly as the feeling of the brush swishing across her face almost made her forget what Alice just said. Once she’d lifted the brush Y/N replied.

“Is Sirius… is Sirius playing Aramis?” Y/N felt her stomach twist, Alice, testing a couple of foundation types on Y/N’s wrist before dabbing it across her face.

“Yes! Didn’t you read the cast list?”

“Apparently I’m not that smart,” Y/N muttered, wanting to kill herself. She could have prepared for this, researched him, previous roles, kissing style, not panicking when he leans in. You fucking idiot.

“Don’t worry, the amount of people who haven’t read the script by the first day on set would surprise you,” Alice’s warm smile seemed to calm her slightly, likely alongside with the soft brush sweeping over her cheeks and eyes.

“Are there…” Y/N paused, unsure if she wanted to admit that she was sort of new to the whole filming thing, or if she would be accidentally humiliating herself.

“Hmm?” Alice gave her a look, holding the brush back, “You ok?”

“Yeah, just nervous.” Y/N gave her a small smile.

“Well either way, you look amazing,” Alice stepped away from the mirror and behind Y/N’s chair so she could see herself in the mirror. Y/N leaned in to look at herself, or herself 2.0. Alice had somehow highlighted angles in Y/N’s face that she didn’t even realise she had, her eyes highlighted by the subtle brown eyeshadow and liner.

“Holy shit, you are good.”

“You’d hope so,” Alice breathed out a laugh, letting out Y/N’s hair. “Now I’m sorry in advance because you’ve done your hair so nicely, but we are starting with the second scene today and you’re about to have your hair absolutely destroyed by some back combing.”

“I’ll forgive you,” Y/N laughed at her genuinely apologetic expression, grimacing when she held up the brush like a knife.

“Here we go.”

Alice gave her a hug when she left the caravan, wishing her luck like they had been friends for the last seventeen years and pointed her towards costumes. Four girls and two guys swarmed around her, holding up multiple tops and pants that looked exactly the same but with slight differences in the colour. Y/N wondered if they’d made them after the previous girl had cancelled, Y/N had given her a thorough stalk and immediately noticed the very big skin tone difference. They handed her a peasant blouse and linen pants, letting Y/N slip them on behind a curtain before circling her again once she’d changed, handing her a pair of lace up brown boots.

Y/N walked towards set, sucking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly with each step. Someone knocked her lightly on the shoulder.

“Love the new look.” Sirius smiled at her, his hair looking somehow better.

“Yes, it’s called the ‘my hair is secretly a bees nest’” Y/N matched Sirius’ quite fast pace, drinking in his loud, dog-like laugh, his head shaking back.

“Alice is honestly an artist,” Sirius grinned at her, leading her towards the director and producer who were huddled together next to the set of large village facades, a gravel path along the front.

“She is, this isn’t my real face,” Y/N felt her heart flutter as she made Sirius laugh again.

“Y/N, Sirius! Glad you’re here, we are running short on time today because apparently we’ve been bloody double booked,” the director hissed at the producer who grimaced apologetically.

“I just want to see how you guys run through the second scene, doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just want to see you on the set and then we will start blocking properly. Sound good? Good.” She didn’t wait for them to answer, pointing them towards the gravel pathway.

“Great,” Sirius smiled fixing his collar and moving towards the set, Y/N followed close behind him. Y/N took a deep breath, sitting down on the path, trying to stop herself from fidgeting and calm herself. You know this, you can do this.

“And, action!”

It was a mixture of exhausting and exhilarating, and a couple of times where Y/N became slightly too mesmerised with Sirius’ impeccable acting skills. Once she’d been dismissed Y/N began to walk awkwardly back towards the caravan where the costuming team had moved her clothing, a large set of letters with her name on it across the front. It was probably the most exciting thing she’d seen all day.

As she reached it, she was pulled sideways by a small girl with a sharp brown bob and perfect cat-eye.

“Hi, Mary, PR, I just need to chat to you and Sirius for a quick sec ok?” Y/N was dragged towards Sirius who had been chatting animatedly to Alice, leaning against one of the set facades. “Sirius, a second?”

“Yep, see you tomorrow, Al,” Sirius winked at her and she waved him off.

“Ok, don’t have a lot of time, need to be at a marketing meeting in 10 minutes. So as you’re aware you two are love interests in the show and we are already getting some great hype given that the books have been getting steadily more popular. We want to lean into the pairing, a couple of staged outings, nothing confirmed just hints, ok? I’ll set up some time to run through the times we are going to get you two to be together, and what to post up on your socials.”

“Wait sorry are you talking about pretending to be together? Like… like a relationship?” Y/N interrupted her, stuttering awkwardly and berating herself internally.

“Yes, I’ll call you tomorrow with more details, just want to keep you in the loop.” Mary shook both their hands in quick succession and sped off towards the exit, heels clicking loudly against the concrete. Sirius and Y/N said nothing to each other for a few awkward moments.

“Well, I guess we will be seeing a lot more of each other,” Sirius broke the tension, his hand tucking into the front of his jeans.

“Yeah, I guess so.” Aha. Shit.

\hello bb!!! ah yes for sure!!! Ok well ive been doing basically the same makeup since i was 12 (cat eye liner) with variations along it throughout the years, but i also went to makeup school for a couple of months and have used Youtube as a resource so i would reccomend Youtube for sure! such an amazing resource, i have some makeup videos up too :) an everyday one is here (x)

In terms of products i use just drug store stuff that is cruelty free, some brands i like that are super affordable and not tested on animals are Essence, Elf, and Wet n Wild, i also like physicians formula and NYX (but they are a higher price point), if ur ok with waiting for stuff i get lots of makeup in the mail, Bh cosmetics and Colour Pop are some of my fav affordable brands :) 

u messaged me and asked about specifically contour, glitter, and winged eyeliner, so here is a little tutorial on those :)

to recap/ also to add:

contour: way easier to use a powdered contour than cream, use less than u think u need, start slow and build, start at the edges of your face and dont bring it in too far unless u wanna, use like 2 shades darker than your skin, use a smaller brush than you think you need

eyeliner: theres like straight up marker type eyeliners that are way easier to use than the ones i use in my vid, like this type, ugh, a dream! but basicaly u just need 2 be patient and be ok with using a lot of q tips, if u want, some people use a card or something to help them draw a straight line or you can actually purchase a winged eyeliner stamp that apperantly is very good? ive never used those tho. if ur hand shakes u can anchor your pinkie to your face while you draw, you can also put your elbow on the table. if you draw the line on your lash line first (eyes closed), and then with eyes half open, do a dot where u want the wing to end and then draw from there its easier than doing it full eyes closed.

I reccomend finding someone on youtube who has the same eye shape as you and figuring out how they do their liner, bc depending on how close or far apart, how round or almond shaped they are, how slanted upwards or downwards they are and whether they are hooded or monolid or neither, your eyeliner will look different, sometimes it takes some expirementing to figure out whats right for u! if you feel like your eyeliner looks great when your eyes are closed but kinda wonky when theyre open, you might have hooded eyes (like me!) and theres great tutorials on how to do eyeliner to make it look cute on them (like this one!)

glitter: theres lots of great biodegradable glitters u can get from etsy! i have been using the same one forever, its just gold glitter i put in coconut oil, dont use craft glitter cause its dangerous as fuck! (if you do, and lets face it, i do sometimes, just please please pelase keep it away from your eyes as much as possible), but colour pop has some great glitter palettes. to get glitter to be really high shine and high stick, put some concealer or glitter primer on the area first, if your just using cheek glitter it can just be cosmetic glitter mixed w coconut oil :) 

i think u are witchy so sometimes colour correspondence magic with makeup is super fun! or casting glamours on makeup/with makeup is super cute! also diy stuff :) so i reccomend doing some google searches on those if it interests u or just doing it intuitively cause its super fun!

i would like to reccomend the podcast natch beaut if u are into beauty makeup podcasts also, Jackie Johnson is kinda my hero?

remember theres no wrong way to do makeup these are just things that work for me from my experience! everyone is different tho but i hope this helps! good luck!

long story short, the hockey fandom is full of absolutely talented, amazing people! everyone’s got something really cool to contribute, be it written works, gifs, graphics, memes, or anything else you can think of!

and who doesn’t like getting gifts? so i’d like to propose:

so the idea is pretty self-explanatory:

a gift for a gift! kinda like secret santa…except it’s not secret and it’s not christmas and santa isn’t involved (unless you want him to be???).

what would you say is your hands down favorite foundation and why? also! do you have any tips on finding the right foundation shade at the drugstore? i feel like when i first put the foundation on it looks good but then after it like oxidizes and it’s so annoying. thank u!!

oh jeez....i'm not just saying this bc i work estee lauder but their double wear foundation is fucking bomb. it lasts all day and is a medium-full matte coverage but i always mix it with a primer to get a light coverage. the L'Oréal true match lumi was always my faveeee when i wore foundation it was beautiful and the wet n wild photofocus foundation was good too!!

it's hard to find your shade at the drugstore for sure. what i would recommend is getting matched with a high end brand bc they will tend to have more shades. once you get that color (just ask for a free sample - stores will give you one no problem!!!!) go onto temptalia.com and use their foundation matrix!!! you type in the shade you use and it will give you matches in any other foundation. that's what i used to use when i wore foundation it's a good way to know your shade without trying it on. there's no 100% guarantee but it's still great!!

This last video is a fascinating look at the JYP audition process in the end stages. As described on one blog post:

“what happens in JYP general/open/public auditions is that they go thru like a general audition (submit paperwork + audition video). If they like you they ask you to come in and see you live, interview you to make sure you don't seem like you have a major personality problem, then the ones selected from that, get put into teams, and are told to practice together for a week or so. Then they do this show case type of thing, and from this, the first-second-third place kids are auto acceptances into the official trainee program (ie. they sign a trainee contract), and maybe a select couple are also invited to become trainees if they are thought to have a lot of potential.”

This particular showcase included many future idols including B.A.P. Youngjae, BTOB Sungjae, Halo Dino, Hotshot/Wanna One Ha Sungwoon, and Twice Jeongyeon.

Anyway as we know Hoseok wasn't accepted into JYP, and ended up with Bighit instead.

Audition for Superstar K when he was just a bb! He didn't make it through, but this was the famous audition that saw him receive offers from a variety of agencies including JYP, Starship and Woollim. He chose Bighit because of Namjoon...
