Why not both?
When we first see Peach, she is in the middle of a tactical meeting regarding Bowser's imminent invasion. She spends much of her time trying to assure her people that she will do everything in her power to keep them safe.
Tumblr media
After declaring her plan to leave in the morning for The Jungle Kingdom to enlist the help of The Kong Army, Peach walks away from the meeting unattended. Then along comes Mario: breaking and entering, actively running from guards, making a beeline for Peach while excitedly shouting "PRINCESS!" He 100% should have expected to be suplexed.
After rightly slamming Mario to the ground like a sack of beans, Princess Peach looks down at him with wide eyes, as curious as she is startled. The moment Mario catches his breath he tries to scramble back to his feet and ask for help before he is promptly dog-piled by the guards.
At this point, Peach realizes 2 things: 1. This cute guy means no harm. He's clearly in some sort of trouble. 2. He... kind of looks like a human? She orders his release. As Mario stands back up she gets a better look at him, and becomes giddy once she sees her suspicions are confirmed.
"He’s a human! I mean, you are a human, right? It’s just... you’re so small.”  He’s a human alright, just a particularly short one. Mario is confused by this reaction, and is a little annoyed by all the touchiness (especially the hat stealing.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But there's no time to focus on that right now, Peach wants to know where he came from. Mario doesn’t waste a second explaining his situation. Time is of the essence.
M: “Me… and my little brother Luigi, we fell down this pipe! And now he’s lost somewhere… in The Dark Lands!” P: “Then it’s only a matter of time before he’s captured by Bowser.”
Tumblr media
Mario visibly tenses up at this. He’s heard of Bowser from Toad, who described him as “the most evil, wretched creature alive.” Peach reassures Mario that she’s on a mission to stop him, and Mario demands to be brought along.
“This guy’s a lunatic. A psycho. He will eat you for breakfast. He won’t even notice it, probably, because you’re very… very… small.”
Tumblr media
When I first saw the movie, this line made me worry for Peach’s characterization, but I was relieved to see that this is the first and last time she talks down to Mario like this. In hindsight, her behavior makes sense: Mario doesn't know what he’s up against or what his odds are, and Peach– who has no idea who Mario is or what he’s capable of– is trying let him know where he stands in the grand scheme of things... that there is no shame in standing down. But Mario is not going to sit around while his brother is in danger, not in a million years.
“Make fun of me all you want, but you’re going to help me find my brother.”
Tumblr media
Mario goes on the offensive. He doesn’t back out, but instead doubles down, just short of making a direct threat. Peach, being made of equally stern stuff, glares back at him, giving him one final chance to rethink his position.
Mario doesn’t rethink his position, but he does take a moment to remember that he is talking to a princess, so he tries to tone it down a bit by ending his sentence with “please?”
Peach smiles a little... like she’s impressed, but doesn’t want to admit it.  This guy has spirit, but she doesn’t know whether he’s got the skills to back it up. So she takes Mario to the training course so she can truly see what he’s made of.
Tumblr media
When the course is laid out, Mario is wide-eyed and amazed. When Peach performs the obstacles, he gives her due praise, and questions how he himself is going to be physically capable of pulling off the same thing. Through this short interaction, Mario accidentally proves that though he is impulsive (made worse by his fear for Luigi), he is still capable of recognizing and respecting the skills of others, and has some ability to understand his own limitations... to an extent.
Mario is introduced to powerups and fed the super shroom. But despite his newfound size, jumping ability, and confidence, he blows his first run of the obstacle course right off the bat. Peach says nothing to mock or demean him, but merely gives him a bit of advice about how powerups work, and encourages him to try again. So, Mario downs another mushroom, and give it another shot. Another point in Mario’s favor is that does not complain beyond the first mushroom he was forced to eat. For hours he has his shit kicked in by this brutal, ruthless obstacle course while he’s continually eating mushrooms to the point of vomiting. If he was any less of a man he would decide to try and find Luigi on his own after the millionth try, or at least attempt to argue down the severity of the course, but he doesn’t. This is the ultimatum he’s been given, this is what he needs to do, so he straightens his cap and tries again... and again... and again...
... and to Peach’s credit, she stays with him almost the entire night, and only goes to sleep when she collapses where she stands. You can see her getting more and more endeared to Mario, offering occasional emotional support, and rooting for him the whole way through. Their first interaction was a little rocky, but the more Peach sees of Mario, the more she likes what she sees.
Tumblr media
By dawn Mario has almost mastered the obstacles, he just got a little too sure of himself 10 feet from the finishing line. Despite the technical failure, Peach knows one thing for certain: She really wants this funky little weirdo who broke into her house to go on a road trip with her.
CONCLUSION: Mario and Peach are cut from the same cloth. Mario is a bit more brash and impulsive than Peach (which makes sense. He's not a royal, he's a blue collar worker from Brooklyn), but they’re both intrepid, big hearted, and willing to do anything for those they love. Furthermore, they are essentially going after Bowser for the same reason: their families, who they spent their entire lives loving and protecting, are being threatened.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah, kindred spirits I’d say!

Whatever this October thing is (Bowuigi), 2, The Mating Game
[Disclaimer, this is not ABO. This is only based on the song of the same name by Bitter:Sweet]
"Welcome to..." the Toad paused, before everyone in the crowd joined them in saying, "The Mating Game!"
Everyone clapped and cheered. They all knew tonight was a very special episode.
"Now, before we meet our 'mate' for tonight, let's meet our contestants!" They said, walking over to the podiums where two toads and one human stood, the human looking very confused. The announcer stood in front of the first Toad.
"Now, who are you?" They asked.
"Knight Toadwin, at your service!"
The crowd oohed and ahhed. "Well, we've never had a knight on our show before. I'm sure this will go great for you!"
Everyone clapped as they moved on to the human. "And who might you be?"
"Um, I'm Luigi, and really quickly, I just wanted to ask, one, why are we underwater, two, what am I even--"
"Alright, everyone give a round of applause for Luigi!" And so everyone did, though not as much as they had for Toadwin.
They moved on to the second Toad. "And you?"
"Toadie."
"Thank you, Toadie!" Everyone clapped again. "Alright, now, time for you three to pick numbers!" They said, as a basket filled with slips of paper was rolled out. "Toadwin, step up!"
She stepped up, put her hand in the basket, and pulled out a slip. She then went back to her podium. Everyone turned their eyes to Luigi, who still looked quite confused.
"Step right up, Luigi! You're the next contestant!"
He did so, walking over to the basket.
"Go on, take a number!" He did so.
He walked back to his podium and opened the slip, looking even more confused. "This isn't even a number!" He said, but no one listened.
Toadie took his number and the announcer smiled. "Now, if you will wait a minute as I twist your fate, I will be greatly pleased."
Luigi mouthed the words "twist your fate", looking more confused than ever. The announcer closed their eyes and whispered something. They sighed and opened their eyes, smiling. "Alright, who's ready to meet the Mate?" The crowd cheered.
In walked a hulking koopa, also looking confused. Luigi's eyes widened as he ducked behind the podium.
"Now, you might recall this lovely face as The King of Koopas himself, King Bowser!" The audience cheered. "And he'll be right back after the break!
"Wait, what?"
And like that cameras cut. The announcer grabbed Bowser's hand and dragged him over to the podiums.
"So, the name of the game is to pick one of the contestants to be your 'mate', but uh-oh! You have to chose the right one or else you get put to death!"
"Death?!" Both the confused ones said at the same time.
"No, come on," They said, dragging Bowser over to Toadwin. "This is Toadwin, the knight! Over there is Toadie, and in the middle here we have... where did he go?"
Luigi shyly rose from his hiding place. Bowser looked more confused and now equally pissed. "If I'm honest, I don't know what's going on either."
Bowser inhaled to say something, but never got the chance.
"Op! Looks like that's time! Places, everybody!" The announcer pulled Bowser back to the middle of the stage. "And, we're back! Welcome, everyone. If you're just tuning in, King Bowser was just about to choose a number!"
"I was?"
"He was! Now, choose your number from the basket!"
And so Bowser did. He looked at it. "This, this isn't even a number! What sorta show do you think you're running around here?!?" Again, no one listened.
"Now, who do you think is your mate? Be careful, you only have one shot!"
Bowser took a minute to process. He pointed to Toadie. "That one's too boring." He pointed to Toadwin. "That one seems too cheery." He finally pointed to Luigi. "But that one I already know, and he keeps looking at me funny. I say he planned it and it's him."
The spotlight shown on Luigi, making him sweat.
"Survey says... you're right!" The audience cheered and a bell rang. The two toads that had stood next to Luigi dropped out of sight. "Now, Luigi, come claim your award!"
Luigi walked over to the two of them, looking nervous as ever.
"Now, kiss!"
"What?!?!?!" They both shouted.
"You're soul mates now, did I forget to say that?"
"Yes, you did! Also, fuck you!" Bowser said.
"Well, good luck, and kiss."
"We're not--"
"Just get it over with!" A Toad in the crowd shouted. The audience cheered in agreement.
The two looked at each other. They were all too busy looking at each other to notice the puddle on the ground that was quickly becoming bigger because of the drip from the ceiling. Luigi was about to do it when the ceiling broke and water came flooding in. Bowser grabbed him and held him close as the room flooded.
Both of them awoke with a start in their separate beds. It had been the second night in a row they had had dreams about each other. This was different though. Those toads seemed awfully... familiar.

Guys I suck at drawing but I NEED to see some mini mushroom Luigi and normal sized Bowser! I know the size difference is already a thing, but their movie sizes are only so different and I want to see the turtle dragon rolling the little green man in his palm.
Scenario, post movie:
Out of equal parts boredom, kindness, and loneliness, Luigi has been caring for the Mushroom Kingdom's greatest enemy for about a month. He's been cooking meals for Bowser (and himself, lately) in the castle kitchens, delivering them, and generally spending time talking to the Koopa and keeping him updated on the goings-on outside the castle where no one else will even speak to the Koopa. He likes to think that they've been getting along pretty well, all things considered. He even got a laugh out of Bowser yesterday, and he recently noticed that he didn't feel all that lonely anymore.
Luigi is taking the Koopa King his dinner (along with a novel he'd just finished at the King's recommendation) when he sees Toad guards running to catch said Koopa as he makes an escape. He drops the food and book to try to help. Well, one thing leads to another, Toads trip over each other, Bowser lands on his back, spinning and hitting a wall which knocks out the mini power up, and the extra one that a Toad guard was carrying in case of emergency /somehow/ ends up getting swallowed by Luigi by accident. Suddenly, even the pile of adorable Toads are looming over the little green plumber, let alone the massive koopa who steps over them and grins down at him.
Well, on his way out, Bowser might as well scoop up the sweet, tiny human. This time around, he'd treat his prisoner /very/ well.
...
... okay look, when I started this post I had a very different mental image in mind but now I can see nothing but Bowser keeping his human in a little jar/cage on a chain around his neck. I could also see Luigi helping him with paperwork at his desk, sitting on a little inkwell. And the Koopalings all trying to crowd around Luigi and Bowser having to quickly pick him up for fear of him being crushed under their eagerness. And so much actually tender bonding. Because Bowser now knows that this human is /good/ and /kind/ to the core, but -and he'd never admit this aloud- he's terrified that given the choice/chance, Luigi would run right back to his brother and the Mushroom Kingdom. So he does everything in his power to keep Luigi small and /here/.

So, King Boo in Days. Where to start.
When I started writing Days, I hadn't played a Luigi's Mansion game aside from a little bit of LM1 years ago before I got too scared to continue (it had ghosts!). I still liked making references here and there to the series, since it's half the reason for Luigi's characterisation being what it is these days. I've since picked up LM3 and had fun with it. Even if I don't have a proper handle on King Boo's character yet, I think I've got the rough idea.
However, my main issue with actually putting him in is that he's a final boss and I don't want to treat him as not a final boss. Equally, using him to make Luigi look tougher while weakening Bowser wasn't what I wanted to do to those characters either - any sort of curb stomp battle is not going to happen. King Boo needed to show up but not make too much of a mess because he's not part of the main plot; his appearance isn't the catalyst for Luigi and Bowser to change how they feel about each other. Trying to balance the weight of such an important character with the planned out state of the main relationship wasn't something I thought I could do justice.
That doesn't mean I don't have ideas for when he might have shown up :D
First off, somewhen around Day 24 could've been interesting. Adding him to the melting pot of Luigi in denial, Bowser coming to terms with liking Luigi more than Peach, and Peach being at the castle while trying to make plans to take back her kingdom. It would've been such a wonderful mess, but not one that I could ever have figured out how to write (especially given how long it took me to put Day 21 together). It would've derailed the plot and I would've had to have redone a lot of what I had already written for Day 27/30.
On the other hand, Day ~11 could've been very interesting. I have way more notes about how that might go down:
The scent of fresh welds mingled nostalgically with the dusty aroma of crumbled stone. Luigi hummed, satisfied with his work, as he fitted another length of pipe into place.
We open with Luigi fixing the pipework in the baths (Bowser broke some of it in Day 9 and Luigi wanted something to do while Junior was getting some lessons). The baths are also having their monthly clean out/scrub, so there's no risk of falling in boiling water or anything like that. Luigi's having polite chit-chat here and there with the cleaners until a Boo jumps out of nowhere and scares him.
Not knowing why a Boo is around, Luigi packs up his borrowed tools and heads off to ask someone what's going on (the cleaners don't know any better than him, also Luigi doesn't pick up that the Boo is similarly confused as to why Luigi is here). He tries asking a few people, but no one really knows. Eventually he reaches the throne room, where Bowser and King Boo are chatting about something. King Boo notices Luigi, tries to portraitify him, only to miss when Bowser yanks Luigi out the way with the contract warping.
Here's the tricky part, there needs to be an argument that doesn't significantly mess with the status quo. Something roughly like this:
Bowser: That's my prisoner. King Boo: That's my nemesis! [Bowser falters somewhat] Luigi: You kidnap Mario all the time, King Boo. Bowser [rallying]: Yeah, exactly! King Boo [lying through his teeth]: I would've handed him over after I'd gotten Luigi. Bowser [lying just as much]: I'll hand him over after I've gotten Mario out the way and married Peach. Luigi: ... yay.
After that, Luigi goes back to fixing the pipes, but with a guard watching him now (ostensibly to stop him escaping, he thinks it's just for show, Bowser's actually put the guard there to make sure there's at least a witness for anything King Boo might try). King Boo shows up to threaten him. During this, one of the cleaners/the guard refers to Luigi as 'Princess' (importantly this didn't happen during the previous confrontation) and King Boo finds the whole magical marriage contract hilarious. He laments that he ignored Bowser's wedding invite because it would've absolutely made his death to see Luigi get entangled in this mess.
I think it would be interesting from there to have a proper interaction between King Boo, Bowser, and Luigi. Highlighting why Bowser and King Boo are allies and don't mess with each other's plots. Possibly getting into a bit of what Bowser's marriage means on a larger political scale. Potentially touching on Luigi's fear of ghosts and him having to figure out how to explain it without insulting one or both of the kings.
But then I don't know! I don't feel like King Boo would just leave it at that. Maybe Bowser could work out a deal where King Boo helps him find something to break the contract (maybe he's the reason Bowser went looking in the Silicarid desert)? Though he wouldn't have done it for free and Bowser might have to deal with consequences shortly after letting Luigi go in Day 30 and I wouldn't want to leave that plot thread hanging (that's not going to stop Bowser from make the deal because he has never cared about potential consequences in his life).
Part of the problem is that around this time Luigi's starting to feel comfortable in the castle. Adding the vague threat of Boos showing up whenever they like is going to kneecap that. He's also still happy to make escape attempts and this could prompt one of those (which is another mess entirely that I'd want to do justice).
By this point, Bowser has definitely noticed that Luigi is his type, but hadn't reached the point of wanting a relationship rather than just sex. He's possessive anyway, so he's not going to give up his prisoner without a fight.
So, yeah. That's my King Boo in Days thoughts. Hopefully that ramble makes sense!

“On the loose!” Chapter 7: The thing you love most
Kamek shot out a glowing, purple ball of magic right in Mario’s direction, Mario still had those thoughts swirling in his head ‘Move. Don’t just stand there. MOVE!’ By the time Mario snapped out of it, he knew he wouldn’t have time to run away, his vision blurred, the thoughts returning to his head, only this time he felt.. at peace ‘at leat he’ll get you, and not Luigi..’ Mario closed his eyes.. but the pain never came, was he dead already? He opened his eyes when he heard Luigi gasp. ‘No.’ He had taken the hit for him. Mario wanted to scream, ‘Luigi.. no..’ Luigi just smiled and looked back at him as he absorbed the spell “I told you I’d happily give my own life for yours, big brother..” and he fell to the ground. Luigi quickly stood up and felt his chest when he realised there was no pain but instead a purple glow, pulsating right over his heart, Luigi could’ve sworn he felt the purple light IN his heart, pumping its magic into his blood stream. But then, as quick as it started, the Purple light left his body before fading into dust. Luigi looked confused, Mario, Peach and Toad equally baffled “well that’s.. interesting..” Said Kamek, before anyone could demand Kamek to tell them what he did, he gave a cruel smile and continued “me and Lord Bowser saw that Mario loved his little brother very much, even willing to die for him.” He turned to Luigi “The spell you just absorbed was supposed to search Mario’s heart and find out what he loved the most, more then anything, with all his heart. And then proceed to find and.. destroy it! If Mario was right about his most prized and beloved thing.. then YOU would’ve died Luigi.. your own brother whould be the cause of your own death. I’d never forgive myself if I were him, neither should he, I’d hate him. I’d haunt him forever because of what he did to me.” Mario gasped in shock, Luigi averted his gaze from everyone “so,” Kamek continued “The spell hit YOUR heart. So whatever it found deep, deep, deep inside your heart, will now proceed to use the rest of the spell to track it, then destroy it. I wonder what you love and care about most LUIGI?” Luigi was still processing this but he thought he’d beaten them because Luigi never really thought about what he loved most, he never questioned it, how could the spell POSSIBLY figure out what- Luigi heard a gasp, at first he thought it was Toad or the Princess but his stomach dropped when he realised MARIO made that gasp. He dared to look behind him, but when he heard a harsh thud on the ground behind him, he gave in, shakily turning his head to see Mario, a weird glowing purple ooze covering his chest, his heart thumping loudly as the ooze ripped through his skin revealing a slowing, literal broken heart. Blood gushed everywhere as the spell faded into his chest, he dropped to his knees then proceeded to fall backwards as his heart stopped. Luigi was there in seconds as he shakily but gently placed his brothers head onto his lap, Peach and Toad by his side in seconds, Bowser laughing maniacally as he and Kamek ran towards and got into a Koopa Clown Car. “PRINCESS! Can you heal him?!” Toad cried with tears welling up in his eyes, “I-I’ve never healed such a fatal wound before!” Peach blubbered back, Luigi said nothing, tears falling freely from his face “Mario?.....” he sobbed, Mario gasped and tried to look up at him as his eyes grew tired and droopy, Peach and Toad quickly clasped their hands together, just above their foreheads before taking a quick glimpse of the early afternoon sky, closing both their eyes, the whispered in unison as Mario let out a breath, closed his eyes and went limp in Luigi’s arms. “Oh please Great Star Spirits! Don’t let Mario die! Let him stay! Let him come back, PLEASE!” Luigi looked over at them confused, the tears in his eyes blinding him. “Star Spirits?..” He said blubbering and confused with fear mixed in.

Quick Review- "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (SPOILERS ALERT)
Tumblr media
Anyone who knows me already knows how much of a Mario fan I am. Hell, my family could probably tell you some wild tales about my Super Mario Bros. addiction during my grade school days. But even the announcement in 2018 that Nintendo was going forward with Illumination to make an animated feature length film based on their flagship franchise made me more that a little overly cautious; after all their previous effort (the live action 1993 film) did not exactly do them ay favors either (and while were at it, the TV shows, while memorable, still leave much to be desired). This also is not the first time that the Mario Bros. would be in an animated film (Back in 1986, there was an anime called “The Great Mission To Rescue Princess Peach!”, which never got a US release. Doug Walker actually reviewed it so if you want you can look it up)
Fast forward to now. The movie has now made about $600 million at the time of this review and has yet to be released in Japan. I have a feeling though that after it is released it will make a lot more. And I’m not just saying that because I’ve personally seen this movie twice. That’s something I very rarely do as far as my movie theater habits go  and if I do that its most assuredly a sign the movie in question is worth my time.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” serves as an origin story for the two Brooklyn born plumbers, the plot being straightforward and simple much like the mainline Mario games: the two siblings somehow find themselves whisked away into another parallel dimension and get separated, with Luigi ending up in the Dark Lands and Mario landing in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario enlists the aid of Princess Peach and, along with Toad, sets off to save Luigi from Bowser, the king of the Koopa tribe, who just acquired the Super Star. The group journey to the Jungle to enlist the aid of the Kong Army, led by Cranky Kong and his son, Donkey Kong.
As I mentioned before, the plot is pretty straightforward and to the point: at 92 minutes there is quite a bit going on and it comes at you fast. Not too much time is spent on character development for certain individual members like Luigi and DK. We get a revelation about Peach’s backstory (not being from the Mushroom Kingdom is certainly an eye raising reveal) and hints about the relationship between DK and his dad, but its not really a focus. You get the sense that Nintendo wanted to play it safe with the story, but at the same time you want just a little bit more. Thankfully the story is enjoyable as it is, and has enough humor, action and equally touching moments to sustain itself. A lot has been said about the choices for casting in the film and for me, while the choice of Chris Pratt was very questionable when I first heard about it I was glad I took a wait and see stance to it. He did quite a good job in the role and so did Jack Black as Bowser in all of his evil, kinda hammy. Scene chewing role. Of course, his demeanor changing whenever the subject of Princess Peach being brought up is also VERY notable. I mean dude practically sung a love ballad about her (TWICE) and stole the damn Super Star just to try to impress Peach. I can understand that though, given how she is in the movie. Princess Peach, voiced by Anya-Taylor Joy, serves as Mario’s guide and possible love interest in the movie and instead of being the person who has to be saved for most of the adventure, is the more action oriented and confident character accompanying Mario. If the prospects of Peach jump kicking Bowser, using power ups and generally willing to throw down with a gang of Koopas at a wedding reception seem to be alien to you or out of character, I will assume you have never played Super Mario Bros. 2…
…or Super Mario RPG…
…or Super Paper Mario…
…or any Mario Party games…
…or Mario Strikers…
…or Super Smash Bros…
…or the Mario + Rabbids games.
You’re lucky I didn’t even mention the stuff she did in the Super Mario Adventures manga! Anyway the point is, she is pretty darn awesome in this film. Fred Armisen’s take on Cranky is…well…ok why does he sound like Larry David? I half expected to hear "Frolic" by Luciano Michelini play when he got caught oy the Para Koopas on Rainbow Road.
Visually, the movie is animated very well and does a great job of animating the worlds in great detail, including familiar locations from across the games that you may immediately recognize. There are also TONS of audio and visual easter eggs and references not just from Mario history, but Nintendo history as well. (Quick show of hands, who found the Wave Race reference? The Hidden N64 Controller? Who found Mr. Game and Watch or recognized Disk Kun) The movie happily, and with no shame, throws in all of these nods to Nintendo’s past and I have no issue trying to find them all. Which says a LOT about my attention span. There are 4 different licensed songs used in the movie though but their inclusion doesn’t really detract from the enjoyment. (Ok 5 songs. One of them is directly tied to Chris Pratt and another certain movie series he is involved with.)
The movie is not exactly perfect and that’s ok. I was not expecting a huge scale thought provoking movie that makes me question the motivations of humanity (I’ll save that for whatever DC movie comes out next) I just wanted a fun adventure anyone and everyone can enjoy. And this movie certainly delivers on that.

Name: Nabbit
Debut: New Super Mario Bros. U
Nabbit! You all know him, you love him, you asked for him! By which I mean we got an Ask asking to cover Nabbit, and I had previously no intention of doing so but it made me think, hey, I WOULD like to talk about Nabbit! Thanks @oddity-txt!
Nabbit! Like. Nab it. Cause he’s a rab-a thief, he’s a rabbit thief you get it yeah. This guy is a real piece of work, let me tell you! He steals items from Toad Houses and runs off with them! Those are for Mario! Can you believe not everyone in this economy agrees with hoarding power-ups to give them away to Mario in wacky chance-based minigames? So its up to you to chase him down. And chase him down you do!
But why does Nabbit want these items? Does he just enjoy the thrill of the chase? Or is he just trying to provide for his family? Can he sell them on the item black market? Why would there be an item black market when you can find this stuff anywhere on the street? Mario doesn’t care. Mario wants to attack the symptom of the problem rather than addressing the systemic cause.
Tumblr media
Still, I feel like we need to have a good talk about what Nabbit is... other than a hooligan, obviously! Earlier I called him a rabbit but taking a look at him, it’s fairly clear he’s wearing some kind of rubbery rabbit suit, with only the black arms and feets sticking out... So of course we need to speculate all the possibilities! Possibility A is that he is a human or some other known character in disguise, which isn’t fun. Next! Possibility B is that he’s an actual rabbit wearing a rabbit-shaped bodysuit, which I quite like because it is absurd. Possibility 3 is none of the above and he is some mystery creature, which I’ll leave up to YOU to imagine because I’m not entirely sure what that would be.
Point number 2 about Nabbit’s ambiguous identity: the bandanna! It has a similar (but not identical) design to Bowser Jr.’s bandanna, and even though he does not work for Bowser, it just feels like a strangely specific design choice! I can get why Junior wants to look ferocious, but Nabbit is more of the stealthy type right? Because of this I’ve always envisioned Nabbit as having actual fangs under the bandanna, like the Impostor from Amongus, which you can’t disprove because he’s never been seen without it.
Or maybe it’s just fashion. It’s probably just fashionable.
This isn’t the last we’ll see of Nabbit of course! The developers of New Super Mario Bros. U had precisely three (3) new ideas, and damn if they weren’t gonna milk them for all they’re worth! I could get upset that characters from the New Super series get this treatment when other more beloved characters from spin-offs don’t, but also, come on... look at the guy! I can’t stay mad at him! He’s purple!
Tumblr media
So in Nabbit’s next ever appearance, New Super Luigi U... he became playable! Wow, that was quick! With Mario gone, they scrambled around the office for anyone they could find to fill his place, and they settled on Nabbit! They’re not paying Nabbit extra though, so he kind of had to phone it in.
Tumblr media
In this game, Nabbit is totally invincible! Why? Maybe he is like Wario and simply does not care enough to get hit. He can’t use power-ups because they didn’t have the budget to design new costumes for him and he can’t pick up items or ride Yoshis. The game frames this as an “easy mode”, but what kind of easy mode forces one player to always use it? Let’s be honest, it’s because they didn’t want to make a brand new character. The Year of Luigi was a tough time for Nintendo!
So rather then collect power-ups he just puts them in his bag, and they get converted into 1-Ups at the end of the level. Is THIS what he was stealing those items for? Is Nabbit’s ultimate goal to reach immortality through illegally trading 1-Up mushrooms? Maybe something like that probably. It’s kinda fun that he’s a ‘bad guy’ but Luigi and friends don’t really mind keeping him around.

Nabbit also appears in spin-offs of course. Enough spin-offs that he feels like a proper modern Mario character, but sparsely enough that you think “wow, they put Nabbit in this game?” when they put Nabbit in the game. Here he is in the Rio Olympics, and you could make a very easy joke about him being a thief in Rio de Janeiro, which I won’t. Instead I will ask: why the heck is he carrying his sack in a marathon! Just let go dude! Don’t they have changing room lockers in the Olympics?
Tumblr media
Here he is in Golf! As DLC, for all the six people out there who loved Mario Golf World Tour so much they simply had to get new characters for it. This picture labels him as an Eagle but I’m pretty sure he isn’t one, though I might be wrong.
Tumblr media
Here is Nabbit, well known thief, outlaw, and general ne'er-do-well as a doctor! I mean, I know the healthcare system is a scam but this is a little on the nose don’t you think? He just put a pill sticker on his thief sack and called it a day! Can we even be sure there are pills in there? What if he is prescribing patients with stolen Super Acorns from Acorn Plains 5 - Rise of the Piranha Plants? Oh no!
Tumblr media
Nabbit Mario Kart? It is more likely than you think! Of course only in the mobile game with a gacha. They could’ve done it in Mario Kart 8 but they know people will pay good money for Nabbit! Well jokes on them because I got him in the gacha for free. Nyeeh.
Tumblr media
Nabbit is also in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam! Did you know this? I didn’t play Paper Jam, so I didn’t. I’m sorry. You need to catch him in order to get Bros. Attack items. At one later point, you even fight him! Or rather, fight enemies he kept in his bag, while he naps in the background. Is that legal? He can also pop out behind you and steal your hammers to whack you with. Yeouch!
However, he also fights ALONGSIDE you for some fights against Bowser’s minions, acting basically like a fourth party member, except you can’t control him or anything. He gives the Bros. healing items from his bag or will occasionally bonk an enemy himself. Hooray for morally ambiguous characters! I guess he’s cool with anything as long as he gets what he wants.
Tumblr media
Finally, I would like to talk about Nabbit in Super Smash Bros.! As one of the few original things to NSMBU, he of course appears in the Mushroom Kingdom U, alongside equally iconic characters like Beanstalk and Water Geyser! In this game he’ll grab people and stuff them in his bag, and then proceed to just... fly away, so they are killed. Wait a minute. A thief who kidnaps characters only to kill them and himself...? That sounds familiar!
Tumblr media
I knew it! This wasn’t really Nabbit at all, but rather Tac from Kirby Super Star sneakily disguised as Nabbit! Sakurai thought he could sneak you into this stage to satiate his never-ending lust for Kirby Super Star references in Smash... He wasn’t even content just having you in Smash Run and Smash Tour!
Well, mystery solved everyone! I think we can go ahead and end this post while we arrest Tac for his crimes of identity theft, and not regular theft, which isn’t really an actual crime after all.

Listen listen, the second I laid my eyes on your Super Mario AU art and headcannons + your incredibly creative wordbuilding for your AU plus the adorkable ship of Bowser X Luigi, I think I've never fallen back into an old fandom harder than before. I may not be into it as much as in the old days but who the heck can say no to fantastic fanart like this?!
So yeah, now that I got that little geeking out moment, I do have a question in mind.
You've have established so far how the kingdoms and their respective intercations in this AU work and that now the world is living in like a world peace scenario where disputes are solved with sports and events to prevent wars and nothing goes wrong (expect in the sea with the whole pirates situations). You also made it clear which is the main ship in this AU (Bowser X Luigi). That got me thinking: Are interspecies interactions/ even relationships becoming a more common thing ? Like, it's seems obvious since the world is at peace which to me implies traveling and communication with other kingdoms is easily accessible, it doesn't seem that farfetched to me that the inhabitants of differenti places start to mingle with each other, making connections and friendships and maybe even create relationships. Maybe once it was frowned upon but now it's starting to be more acceptable.
Sorry if this might be a stupid or very obvious question to have, but I just like hearing your thoughts on a world you clearly love to build and create. You definitely earned a new follower!! ;) Keep up the good work!
Interspecies interaction is absolutely common place. It has to be to maintain global peace, and it has been made common for a hundred years or so. This "world peace" business isn't necessarily old, but it isn't new either, so by the time the main characters are in the picture, it's seen as a normal thing. As such, no one would really bat an eye if you made friends with a Koopa, or a Goomba, or anything of that sort. The same goes for romantic relationships.
THAT SAID, just because world peace has been achieved it doesn't necessarily mean every kingdom in the entire world is for it. When the World Convention began, it started as a whole bunch of kingdoms coming together and basically going "hey, we're real tired of killing and fighting each other. Wanna be friends instead? :)" A whole bunch of laws, regulations, suggestions, ideas, were passed amongst them before the huge alliance finally settled on an agreement. Thing is, while every kingdom with an official governing body was invited to join, not every kingdom actually accepted the terms.
Some were too stuck in their ways, or maybe at the time had very poor leadership who refused to join the alliance. Anyone who opted out of joining was entirely free to continue business as usual, but were warned that attacks on anyone who did agree to the terms would not be taken lightly.
So there are a few kingdoms in this world that are out and isolated from this alliance by choice. One of the reasons was their refusal to accept interspecies relations and interactions on equal ground.
As a matter of fact, Koopa Kingdom was one of these kingdoms. Particularly when Bowser's grandparents, then parents, were in charge. At the time the Koopa Kingdom was an absolute monarchy so whatever the ruling pair said, went, no matter what the general population wanted, and at that time it was to opt out of the alliance and do their own thing.
Bowser himself is such a popular king because he is the complete opposite of both his parents and grandparents: he reduced the amount of power he holds over the country and gave some of it to the people by forming a council (officials would be elected by popular vote). While Bowser still has overall final say, he can't just go "HAHA I'm king i can do whatever I want" anymore. He also had set to work on many things his predecesors refused, such as: entering the Koopa Kingdom into the World Convention, legalizing interspecies marriage rights, raising minimum wages dramatically, just to name a few.
This got a little bit tangent-y but, I hope that answers your question. :)

good morning. so every member in team bleck has a member that sort of ‘parallels’ the five member ensemble of the heroes and tippi. bleck parallels mario as the leader, mimi and peach are the girly girls, o’chunks and bowser are the muscle, and that leaves the last two-
(long post incoming)
Tumblr media
the fact that 8-3 and 8-4 have luigi and dimentio paired off with eachother pretty much implies that he’s intended to be luigis parallel, and that nastasia and tippi are also parallels. not to be overly thorough again but i’m gonna spell out a lot of the ways both these parallels work
luigi and dimentio:
- have matching colour schemes (luigis inverted green and blue becomes purple and yellow, and vice versa)
Tumblr media
- have the obvious parallels thanks to moments like in 6-1, 8-3 and 8-4 where dimentio and luigi/mr l have extended dialogues alone
- on the topic of mr l and dimentio, both of their major design traits are their masks and how one can’t be recognized with it on, and one’s true intentions can’t be recognized thanks to their mask always smiling
- carson mentions that dimentio was turned away once by the count before seeing that he had potential, much like luigi wasn’t allowed to come on adventures in pm64 until mario saw him handle himself in ttyd (this ones a bit of a stretch admittedly)
and just overall the fact that luigi and dimentio are the only remaining pair means they’re obvious parallels
tippi and nastasia:
- have mirroring but similar form transformations (tippi from human to flying creature, nastasia was implied to change from a flying creature to a humanoid)
- both are from blecks past, but only one of them was his love
- both of them sacrifice themselves in the name of love for the count (nastasias may have been platonic or familial), but only nastasia lives to see the end of the ordeal
- both are the one ‘non playable’ character in the group- you cant REALLY play as tippi and nastasia doesn’t get a boss fight
- pretty much the ‘brains’ of the group, the one that speaks on behalf of bleck/mario a lot of the time
HOWEVER. what if i told you i could also make the argument that THIS is also an equally valid interpretation.
Tumblr media
now obviously the game pretty much confirms that luigi and dimentio are parallels through their fights but i could also argue that luigi/nastasia and tippi/dimentio have some parallels of their own, and why i wanna highlight this i’ll talk about later
tippi and dimentio:
- unlike the other parallels, tippi and dimentio are actively made so that dimentio can’t be tattled. he is literally the only miniboss or major npc like this (aside from maybe nastasia as she has no true overworld encounter)
- at the beginning of the game, both of them are the characters with the most mysterious pasts, as in little to no information is given (tippis gets given later, again i’ll come back to this)- dimentio is the only bar story that doesn’t help out much in terms of his past or lack thereof
- both of them have teleported a character to the safety of flipside in the events of the story (tippi in ch 4 and dimentio in the ch 2 interlude, though teleporting is part of his niche in general)
- have elements that may or may not hide a “true” face (is dimentio’s mask his face or is he just like that?)
- tippi and dimentio’s “moments” together are a bit fewer and far between compared to the others, like her strange out of place “i know you. you’re that...” and the fact that she’s the only one who survives dimentio’s ch 7 nuke (when he tells her directly he’s her enemy) and the fact that despite luigi being onscreen and PLENTY mouthy in his actual fight with dimentio, TIPPI is the one who talks back to you in dimentio’s optional game over
- this ones a bit of a stretch as it’s heavily based on theories that i don’t even believe myself but if you believe dimentio is the magicians son then both tippi and dimentio have a pseudo connection to pixls
luigi and nastasia:
- both are seen as the ‘right hand’ or ‘number two’ for their respective ‘number ones’ (mario and bleck) and generally play off of more subdued versions of their designs (nastasias glasses vs blecks monocle, her white clothes vs his beige cape and hat, her light blue vs his dark blue, luigis proportions being a bit more average compared to mario and a more subdued green colour scheme)
- both have a deep affection for bleck/mario and this is largely in part due to their pasts with them, where seeing their ability and kindness made them believe bleck/mario was truly brilliant (nastasias lines and backstory imply that she was around to see bleck as blumiere which would imply she knew him just as long or longer as tippi did), they also have spent more time by bleck/marios side than the others, comparatively
- both almost never have things on their own, their escapades are mostly ‘side stories’ (but they still DO happen: i’ll give tippi and nastasia the fact that they do hover around mario/bleck more than luigi hovers around mario BUT nastasia isn’t always around bleck, does her own thing, and is even in a meeting when bleck isnt vs tippi only ever leaving marios side when she’s forcibly removed)
- much like luigi and dimentio have their moments, nastasia and luigi also share moments (mostly in the first part of the game, keep it in mind): the most pivotal part of the direction luigi goes in this game is when he gets caught by nastasia, and nastasia is the one who tells him not to mess with the wedding
- in addition, many times throughout the game nastasia details to count bleck each minions defeat, often just telling him the messages they relay or punishing them herself, but specifically when it comes to mr. l’s disappearance, she says she’s the one at fault
- you could also make another design argument that mr l’s mask could also be a parallel to nastasias glasses as a large part of her character also comes from her glasses as they do the fact that mr l can’t be recognized- theyre her weapon (the red rims are also a bit of a gut punch when it comes to that)
- both of them wind up ‘taking count blecks place’ (as the final boss, and as the one to get hit by dimentio’s fatal blow) (interestingly this also puts them both out of commission for the final boss)
- this ones a big stretch but nastasia is seen openly sobbing at the end and luigi is the one of the four heroes who’s the most prone to tears (according to tv tropes at least)
so with all that being said, Why. why did i make this post. i’m sure i could draw comparisons to fuckin uhhh luigi and idk BONECHILL if i had the time on my hands. well the reason why is because i wanted to think about... what if we all looked at spm like this.
in the beginning, nastasia and luigi are in fact eachothers parallels, nastasias logic vs luigis emotion nastasia being the villain to defeat luigis hero yadda yadda yadda. but as the story goes on more and more of the luigi/dimentio parallel begins to happen. and this is because starting with chapter 5, dimentio begins to show his hand- to the heroes, but also to the audience. more of his plan is succeeding, and as count bleck grows more reluctant, this story becomes less and less about how to defeat him and more about how to stop the chaos heart from doing its thing.
we all know how that story goes though, how dimentio usurps the count and takes luigi with his little pizza hands. but i’m thinking that luigis parallels, luigis villains are really supposed to represent the arc 1 villain and the arc 2 villain- both nastasia and dimentio are the ones who are trying to make the man in green choose the dark prognosticus as the true prophecy, it’s just that as the story goes on, dimentio is the one who seizes control of the story. even to the effect that he’ll shift the very structure of the team around so that HE will do battle with luigi. so that HE is the one who is the obvious representative of the ideal host for the chaos heart.
cos who ELSE would it be, right??? :o)
*and here comes the obligatory disclaimer that obviously i’m not trying to say that THIS is concrete 100% what the writers meant. i just think this is an interesting interpretation i’d like to explore

Haunted Castle Chapter Five: Frustration
Wish me luck in being able to finish this fic in time because the end of Halloween approaches and the fic's still not done. I think I got one chapter left to write though (not the next chapter, that I just finished writing tonight) so it should maybe be fine, writing can be hard sometimes though and this part of the fic is certainly so.
~
Watching Luigi and Gooigi fight the rather large and intimidating ghost in the throne room was equal parts super cool and immensely frustrating. Bowser Jr. desperately wanted to help but all he had was a flashlight, one made specifically for ghost hunting sure but it wasn’t enough to actually be helpful so all he could really do was watch from the sidelines.
After this whole adventure was over though, he was going to have E. Gadd make him something that would allow him to fight ghosts too. And then he was going to have Luigi teach him all the ghost hunting tips and tricks he knew. And then if anything like this ever happened again, he wouldn’t have to run away, he could just fight them all on his own. Papa was going to be so proud of him.
The fight went on for some time but there was never any doubt Luigi and Gooigi would be the victors. The big strong ghost let out one last desperate wail before vanishing into Luigi’s Poltergust. The ghostly bars that had descended to keep them trapped in the room dissipated a second later as the atmosphere in the throne room seemed to lighten a bit.
As Bowser Jr. stepped out of the secret room he’d been hiding in Luigi and Gooigi did a dorky victory pose together. It was dumb but at this point not surprising so Bowser Jr. ignored it, turning his attention to Kamek’s portrait instead. It had been hung up on the wall behind the throne. He jogged over to it to shine the dark light on it: finally, something more he could do to be helpful even if it wasn’t nearly enough to be satisfying.
Unlike Captain Boo and his squad, Kamek came out of the painting looking disoriented and confused. “Young sir,” he said as he looked around with a slight frown. “May I ask what’s going on here?”
“You mean you don’t remember?” Bowser Jr. did his best to keep his relief over Kamek being saved out of his voice because he had to pretend that he wasn’t scared or worried, that he had this situation under control.
“No, I was in the lab and then… King Boo showed up and then nothing. But I presume if you’re here and I’m saved, the situation must be handled. Where is Lord Bowser?”
It was a struggle to maintain eye contact. “The situation isn’t fully handled yet; we’re still working on it. Papa is still trapped in a portrait, we think King Boo has him.”
Kamek grimaced heavily. After several seconds of silence, he took a deep breath before speaking. “Why is Green Mario and… whatever that goo being is here during this time?”
Bowser Jr. glanced over to see that Gooigi was standing nearby watching them. Luigi wasn’t, he was examining Papa’s throne instead. He was close enough to overhear Bowser Jr. and Kamek’s conversation but if he was listening or not was hard to say, not that it mattered.
“That’s Gooigi,” Bowser Jr. said, pointing to them, “they’re super cool so I’ve decided they’re my friend now. And they’re here with Luigi because they’re professional ghost hunters. I had to run away and get them because I couldn’t do it by myself.” That didn’t make him a coward even if he kind of felt like one, it had been the smart thing to do.
Kamek’s frowned deepened. Oh no, was he mad that Bowser Jr. had run away? Disappointed? … He was, wasn’t he? Because Papa would’ve never even thought of running away even if he had told Bowser Jr. to. But even that command hadn’t been to run all the way away, he’d been telling him to run and hide so he could take care of King Boo himself. He’d lost though, Bowser Jr. had watched through a crack in the hidden door as he got sucked up into a portrait. So… he’d run all the way away to get help because there was nothing else he could’ve done. But… it still made him a coward, didn’t it?
“I suppose if they’re the only experts available, we have no choice but to trust them for now. We should keep an eye on them though, make sure they don’t try to take advantage of this opportunity.”
“I don’t think they will, E. Gadd told me to go to them and he’s never betrayed us and also they’re both goodie-two-shoes so they wouldn’t even really consider it.” And Bowser Jr. had stuck with them long enough that he trusted them to at least do this task well. Maybe it wasn’t the smartest to trust someone who’s brother was their enemy but they didn’t have much choice.
“I’ll trust your judgment on this Young Lord, you’re in charge until we rescue Lord Bowser.”
Yep and that was kind of awful actually. He liked being in charge of minions and military operations but… always before Papa had at most been little more than a phone call away. And most of the time, he’d had his siblings around to back him up too. At least he now had Kamek to advise him. Speaking of that… “How useful is your magic against ghosts?”
“Hmmm… I’m sorry to say sir but it’s far more useful against physical things. When not taken by surprise though, I should be able to hold my own a bit better.”
“That’s what I thought. You might be able to help us but I’d prefer it if you waited outside with E. Gadd for the time being.” Both to give advice over the communicator and to be available to be called on for backup and/or a quick magical removal from a dicey situation. And, even if things were going well so far, it was good to hold back something in reserve whenever possible in case things started going south. “His lab is just outside the main gates. We,” Bowser Jr. gestured back in the general direction of where he assumed Gooigi and Luigi still were, “need to get back to ghost busting, be ready if we need you though.”
“Understood.” If being sent away to be backup bothered him any, he gave no indication of it. He waved his wand and vanished in a puff of smoke.
Letting out a sigh of relief, Bowser Jr. turned around to see that Luigi was watching him now too with an odd expression. “What are you looking at? Let’s get back to hunting ghosts.”
Luigi rolled his eyes a little but moved to do as he was told so whatever. Gooigi was already moving to do so too. Bowser Jr. fell in a safe distance behind them.
***
Bowser’s treasure room, hidden up in the attic was without a doubt the best room in the castle. The only problem with it was that it had been a mess, seemingly anything and everything that Bowser thought looked nice – regardless of its monetary value – had been stashed up here with zero rhyme or reason. It had taken King Boo a long while to fix it but he’d done it and now all the statues and various knickknacks and other items were arranged in a much more aesthetically pleasing manner. Completing the look and feel of it was Bowser’s portrait on the wall. The angry look of disbelief on his face was really what sealed it; it wasn’t often such an expression was seen in King Boo’s portraits.
But now that that was done, he could start working on things that were more important. One of Bowser’s brats was still missing after he’d somehow gotten away but it was only a matter of time before he showed up again; no son of Bowser’s could ever be that much of a coward, right? So given enough time that would solve itself. The Luigi problem however would not.
Taking a break from it to take over Bowser’s Castle instead, so far hadn’t sparked any new ideas. There had to be something though, right? Maybe even something to do with his newfound position as head of Bowser’s Castle? Well, he had time. Surely, he could get away with enjoying his victory a little while longer before he had to worry too much about that. …
“Boss!”
He turned to see one of his boos had entered, looking rather flustered. Which probably meant bad news, ugh. “Yes?”
“We found the kid who escaped. Which would normally be good news but uh… he’s got Luigi and E. Gadd’s goo thing with him.”
“What?”
“Luigi and his goo clone are here with and they’re ghost hunting. They’re being very thorough too. I only got away because they were taking care of the fellow you put in charge of the throne room.”
Why would Luigi be here? There was literally no reason for him to be. Bowser was his enemy so even if he’d known King Boo had taken over the castle why would he care at all let alone enough to come? Surely, he didn’t want to rescue Bowser, meaning he just hated King Boo that much. Well the feeling was mutual.
“All right, go inform everyone you can, tell them to be ready to deal with him.”
“Yes Boss!” The boo saluted before zipping back out of the room.
As soon as he was gone, King Boo growled. He was half tempted to knock something over, the only thing stopping him was the fact that he’d just gotten the room looking nice. But why was Luigi here? It didn’t make sense! … The why of it didn’t really matter though because he was here regardless of how little sense it made.
With a frown, King Boo turned to look back at the Bowser portrait and its angry expression that now mirrored how he felt. He was just going to have to take care of Luigi here and now instead of later. Easier said than done, especially since he probably had only a few hours to prepare, possibly less depending on how long it took Luigi to find him. … Maybe it was time to change tactics a little.

Follow up question - Who in the MGR cast would be most likely to accompany Peach on her quest to rescue Mario and take back her kingdom? Who would find themselves at Bowser's Castle, trying to ease his troops into accepting his relationship with Mario? Would the mages instead find themselves neutral at Star Road, with one in particular being accompanied by a muscular fellow who tries to convince the Shamans to teach his boyfriend their forms of magic?
For this: “...with one in particular being accompanied by a muscular fellow who tries to convince the Shamans to teach his boyfriend their forms of magic?” You are my new favorite Anon, lol.
Anyway, this is actually a curious question, because it highlights the differences between the two stories and their campaigns.
In the Pokemon fanfics, the characters are aligned mostly based on home kingdoms, or for those that are currently living in particular places. They’ve adopted their regional mindsets and are clashing with others based upon events gradually unfolding before them.
Translating the Mario characters over is easier, since I did that based on where their personalities best fit in with the overall feeling.
By contrast, narrowing four kingdoms into a war between two is a bit tighter, because for Bowser and Peach’s clashing campaigns, they’re both residents of the same broad homeland.
Though races here are divided by what would be set for them, Koopas on one side, Toads on the other, it’s trickier to tell where the Pokemon cast would end up. Rather than joining a campaign of defending and protecting their respective homes, they would be challenged to a total conquest over all of them.
None of that even takes into account of neutral sides for the Mushroom Kingdom, since there are the Shamans as the leading and noteworthy stand against both sides of the conflict. But even they are pulled in based on events unfolding.
Still, this does call for a fascinating character challenge to see where everyone would end up falling regardless! So, let’s see what we’ve got here below the cut.
...
Koopa Kingdom (allied with Bowser & Mario)
Nidoking
Rhydon
Greninja
Chesnaught
Samurott
Typhlosion
Delphox
Lilligant
Bisharp
Weavile
Mienshao
Quagsire
Beartic
Pangoro
Ursaring
Lucario
Hypno
Scyther
Sceptile
Mushroom Kingdom (allied with Peach & Luigi)
Empoleon
Abomasnow
Froslass
Poliwrath
Politoed
Golduck
Delibird
Carracosta
Blastoise
Gardevoir
Gallade
Escavalier
Accelgor
Heracross
Armaldo
Scizor
Swampert
Blaziken
Zoroark
Star Hill (neutral stance / possible alliance with Merlon)
Alakazam
Machamp
Golurk
Mewtwo
Flygon
Garchomp
...
Phew! This was quite a bit trickier to determine and filter groups down into mostly two (partially three) groups.
For this, I based it with the idea of overarching goals with each alliance. It kind of makes light of their full objectives, and pushes a grouped mindset against the individual basis that they’re known for, but that simplifies everything.
...
With the Koopa Kingdom, those aligned with Bowser and Mario will face the notion of challenging the status quo, looking deeper than what history has laid out before them and seeking to press on with what the truth really is, even if it’s ugly, in an effort to find a better and more sustainable life for those who haven’t had this. They challenge what’s considered normal and traditional for their inner desires and ideals to finally know the light of day. Their rapid push for change can sometimes be harmful to those not ready for it.
Meanwhile with the Mushroom Kingdom, those paired alongside Peach and Luigi, would be upholding the values that they know to be true already. They seek to find peace against those assailing them, and look to keep their home protected as it always has been. Though there are deeper and murkier sides to their home, that they understand do need to be changed to help foster new ideals, they seek to keep things maintained, and strive for a slower change, without disrupting the way of life. While not ignorant, they seem a bit tone-deaf to those that desperately need a new way of living.
Finally, those not choosing a side aren’t considered entirely self-serving, but have a stronger interest in learning mysteries of the world or otherwise have little investment in such high-stakes events. While they might be caught off-guard about how dire situations may be, they do have alternative viewpoints that offer new angles to events that others would otherwise be unaware of. They’re not the types to actively seek battle, but would do so when pushed.
...
Deciding which royals go on which side was actually a struggle, between Nidoking and Rhydon on one end, versus Empoleon and Abomasnow on the other, so that there would be balance between them. In the end, though Empoleon would be a type to challenge known information, he would be more methodical, perhaps slower about it, seeking to get the most information out of everything before going forward with anything drastic.
Nidoking, though he hasn’t been pressed into doing so yet, would take just a firm enough push to set him forward, which will be seen coming up. Furthermore, Nidoking already challenges traditionalist notions for his home kingdom, thus setting him closer to Bowser and Mario’s objectives. Rhydon, equally capable of challenging such notions, would easily go alongside Nidoking. Abomasnow, meanwhile, would side for preservations that Empoleon would be more interested in upholding until the time is right; in fact, he might be the one to persuade Empoleon out of drastic measures, should they really fall to it.
...
Probably coming as absolutely no shock, Greninja and Chesnaught would end up on Mario and Bowser’s side as well, since they are valiant defenders of their homes, but would also want to find what lurks beneath and press to embrace newer ideals. They are alike in that mindset.
Since Samurott comes from a different continent originally, he would also be one to go against what’s considered typical, as he is atypical to the usual notions from the kingdom already. As Typhlosion and Lilligant are sympathetic to the above causes, they would also align here as well.
Delphox is a much tougher selection to have pinned down, because he likely would be more interested in changing norms, though isn’t always poised to push for it. Nevertheless, he would ultimately be on the side, if only to open minds to the variety there is in life. Mienshao follows this approach.
Pangoro, Ursaring, and Beartic would all be seeking betterment for their lives and would easily go for the side that promises the faster route to such.
While Weavile, Quagsire, and Bisharp aren’t types to immediately go against norms, most especially Bisharp, they wouldn’t feel right with leaving things alone when it’s considered harmful to others, and would ultimately be stirred to joining this cause as well.
It’s already been hinted at a few times, and will continue to be highlighted going forward with him, but Lucario is very much the type to question authority and rules, so he would take to this side as well. Hypno, though he’s not too involved yet, will follow this notion in a similar vein.
Unlike other vendors that desire what’s best for business, Sceptile has personal objectives not yet explored that will help him line up with this group.
Scyther, though also still needing development, would mostly join this kingdom alliance to go against his brother. However, he would be curious to learn of the motivations behind those that are challenging the usual way of life.
...
While I think most would imagine Froslass to side with Weavile, she’s actually very loyal to Empoleon and will fulfill desires that she may be uncomfortable with, if it means for the betterment of her people. Thusly, she would follow his selection and seek doing better for others in a slower approach.
Used to values already set in place, the roster selection here would be likely to want to adhere to what is known and stick close to it. Scizor would do so to the absolute most degree, and could likely persuade others including Heracross and Armaldo, even if they aren’t as quickly inclined to follow this methodology.
Also sticking with a system that’s familiar and that they already flourish in, Golduck would want to defend what he knows more than seek out changes that could tip the scale against him. Delibird tends to follow him and Empoleon, and therefore would do so, agreeing to stick with what he knows.
Poliwrath and Politoed are open to changes as well, though because they’re on the prideful side and find honor in doing what’s considered right, they would be more invested in gaining praise from upholding what’s already known and what is considered right, therefore choosing this alliance.
Less prideful but equally invested in keeping homelands safe from harm would be Carracosta and Blastoise. It was really hard to put them where they belonged against where I thought would be more fun for them, given that they’re turtles and would be funnier to have alongside the Koopas. Then again, it would create an interesting mirror for these turtles to go against what seems like their own kind.
More characters that are in favor of changes, but might not be as quick to push forward with them are Blaziken, Swampert, and Zoroark. Unlike their much pushier counterparts (Sceptile and Lucario), they’re the types to learn the system and work from within.
Speaking of working with what they know and pushing for changes within, that would be the appropriate way to describe Gardevoir and Gallade. While she’s a bigger force that isn’t as easy to contain on such matters, Gardevoir does go by what she knows more often, though that’s liable to change at any time. Gallade would be the type to keep her in check and follow structure, but would also cave to her desires for making differences.
As types to follow orders as well, Escavalier and Accelgor are more apt to fall in on this side of the dividing line, though would likely take a less pronounced route to change like Gardevoir would be pushing for. They’re subtle like that.
...
The selections on who ends up in a more neutral stance were a bit dicey, since I could have put a good number of characters here, though I went with those who would ultimately make the most sense.
While Machamp is interested in helping those with defending home and can sympathize with the Mushroom Kingdom campaign, he would also be eager to see differences made and uprooting the system, aligning him closer to the Koopa Kingdom instead.
However, an untapped goal of his and shared with Alakazam is exploration of world mysteries, and the two find excitement in learning more about the unknown. As Machamp did get the initial driving selection to have ended up as a knight, he would likely be more inclined to defer to Alakazam’s selections thereafter, and would easily follow him for their journeys into mysteries. So, that was actually correct with the very initial statement made. Nice job, Anon!
Mewtwo is obviously less interested in war and would likely want to learn more about the world, so I kept him here. Though I was interested in rotating him elsewhere, this one made too much sense for him.
Golurk isn’t so much the type to really be pushed into specific motivations and could honestly end up on either side of the conflict, based on which objective he finds more fulfillment from. Because of that, I decided to keep him as a neutral party, though I had rotated him around a few times as well.
Finally, it’s not very pronounced with how it’s mentioned, but neither Flygon nor Garchomp were the types seeking to get involved in major conflicts, and both would have been happier going about their lives in uneventful ways. If they were given the choice, they would likely not be aligned.
Considering that Garchomp is being forced against his will to join a side in the Pokemon fanfics, that’s an element of mystery both he and Flygon would be curious at solving. So, if they were to have returned to a blank slate even after pushed onto sides, they would rather learn what they don’t know as well, and thus could actually end up siding with Star Hill’s Shamans too.
...
My gosh, I didn’t think this was going to be so vast and in-depth, but there it is! These I don’t feel quite as settled on, and as their stories progress, I feel like there are characters from both sides that could flip-flop on who they would end up aligned with. Then again, that’s similar to how folks work with the ENY cast as it is, so that makes sense too.
Thank you for the asks, Anon!

Keep in mind that this is an ongoing project, so the timeline may change to suit the story’s needs.
This timeline also CONTAINS SPOILERS as it shares a brief breakdown of all the Super Mario stories I intend to write.
Part 2
Super Mario Disaster Master Page
──────────────────────────
- Paper Mario TTYD
Princess Peach visits Rogue Port, one of the biggest shipping stations between the Mushroom Kingdom and Sarasaland, to address some issues with the rich merchants who live there.
Between diplomatic calls, she hears some troubling rumors and acquires an equally troubling map. As her concerns mount, she writes to Mario, asking him to join her, but not soon enough. By the time he arrives, the trouble has already caught up with her.
This game is one of the shakier ones, story-wise. I know I want to include it, but I’m not sure how to use it yet. I do know I’ll start lining things up for SPM here. I also know that the Shadow Queen is important, but I don’t know why.
I’ll gather more details as the Mario Disaster gets closer to these events.
- Luigi’s Adventure
This takes place at the same time as TTYD.
Soon after Mario leaves for Rogue Port, Luigi receives a letter from another kingdom asking for Mario’s help. After a lot of hesitation, he answers the call himself, plunging himself neck-deep into the mess his mother fled from almost three decades before.
Blinded by the request for help, Luigi rebuilds the compass his mother worked so hard to destroy. For a moment, he feels like a hero, appreciated by both the team he builds and the people he’s trying to “save,” only to realize last minute that he’s been manipulated. Luigi flees the Waffle Kingdom and destroys the compass again, scattering its pieces among his shaken companions to hide.
With the confidence he’s built since Super Star Saga shattered, he returns to the Mushroom Kingdom and buries his feelings in work, bustling for the professor and managing his business.
(We learn a lot about the bro’s mother through this adventure: who she was, the situation she fled from, etc. We also learn more about how “magic” works in the Mushroom World, get our first taste of real politics, and acquire a feel for the bigger world beyond the Mushroom Kingdom.)
- Event of Note
Mario has gotten along swimmingly since moving to the Mushroom Kingdom. The toads love him, his renown as a hero has spread over most of the continent, and his relationship with Peach is thriving. He’s having the time of his life, but Luigi is horribly lonely.
Despite his involvement in recent adventures, Luigi’s quiet demeanor can’t compete with Mario’s natural radiance. People know of him, but he’s so overshadowed by Mario’s personality that most people don’t even know his name. Even within the Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi struggles to find a place for himself, and many of the toads don’t seem to like him for reasons he can’t understand.
Up to this point, Luigi had managed to cope, but the recent incident in the Waffle Kingdom has left his confidence shattered. He had secretly hoped he’d find a friend like Peach in Princess Eclair, only to be led on, manipulated, and humiliated. He feels like an idiot and a failure.
In an attempt to raise his spirits, Peach and Mario play matchmaker. Next time Princess Daisy visits the castle, they make sure Luigi is there to meet her and... nudge things in the right direction. Luigi nearly dies of embarrassment, but he and Daisy bond anyway. In her, he finds a life-long friend.
- Inside Story
No longer afraid for Luigi’s safety on adventures, Mario badgers him to join every little excursion he goes on, and grudgingly, Luigi complies. This puts them both at a certain meeting at Peach’s castle, discussing a sudden and serious illness infecting the toads. Bowser’s Inside Story ensues.
This game once again delves into the world of magical items, deepening the bro’s understanding of them and getting them more familiar with the concept of “sages.” It’s also their first exposure to genuine “dark magic,” and its consuming nature towards those who use it, (again lining up the events of SPM). It also introduces key characters such as Starlow (who brings to a head a lot of the issues Luigi has faced lately), and re-introduces Fawful, who becomes very important later on.
- Super Princess Peach
Ego aching from his defeat after the dark star incident, Bowser launches a full-scale attack on Peach's castle. With the help of the "vibe scepter," it goes better than he dared hope, and finally, he gets his hands on the bros.
At first, he intends to maul them, pay them back for every time they’ve defeated him before. But when it comes down to it, he finds that he can’t. In the end, he just waits for Peach to come and take the boys home.
This marks the beginning of a swing in his relationship with Mario, Luigi, and Peach. The story also explores how much of a power house Peach actually is. We see hints of it before, but in this story, it slaps you across the face. We also see more buildup for SPM and more directly, Dream Team.

Certain Victory (shigadabi, LOV bonding)
or: the League plays Mario Kart and someone almost dies. (~2000 words)
this is fun and ooc please dont take this too seriously tg3hq54j3awsedrftg written as part of a gift exchange, sorry i posted a few days late <3
(AO3)(masterlist)(ko-fi)
It was all Spinner’s fault. They were all just chilling in the bar like normal, as content as one could possibly be while planning on how exactly to cause mayhem and disrespect the law, when he just had to ruin the peace.
“So….. Shigaraki. You’re a guy of good taste right? Like, you like video games? Do you, y’know…. have Mario Kart?” The group fell completely silent (actually it was still quite noisy, but the rushing noise in Tomura’s ears made that hard to notice) and tension filled the room (although at this moment the only one truly tense was Shigaraki himself, not that he managed to notice). This wasn’t just an innocent question, no; it was a Challenge, a provocation, a declaration of war. A war Tomura intended to win.
“Do you really want me to answer that question?” Spinner nodded in response, an ignorant grin lighting up his face as he failed to notice the fire igniting behind Tomura’s eyes, “Alright then, it’s fucking on.”
Of course he had to ask that.
Way to fucking go, Spinner.
And so, The Tournament was created.
So much had been put into this night, and Tomura knew it was going to be perfect; after all his planning, it had to be. If this battle was to be done, it had to be done right. After all, what was the point to utterly eviscerating the competition if he hadn’t an audience?
And the day had finally arrived.
The stage was set, Tomura meticulous in work. He had a wide variety of gaming systems, but extra controllers were needed; quickly he went to enlist Kurogiri in stealing some, the prospect of team bonding enough to get the misty man onboard with his plans while he shed a tear of pride. Tomura even went and cleaned a room so that they would have the perfect gaming arena in which to declare victor. Stolen beanbag chairs gathered around a large screen, couches and a small table where snacks would go in the background for the spectators, a pile of cheetos and doritos with bottles green tea and mountain dew to wash them down.
Perfect.
The time to fight was nigh, and Tomura was confident he would prove himself superior. After all, was the realm of games not his main domain? Yes, today he would indisputably prove his worth, and no one would dare question his authority.
While the sky was overcome by purples and deep blues, the sun finally leaving them from the night, Tomura let himself focus on the screen before him. It was his moment to shine, now, and nothing would get in his way. Even as the rest of the league filtered into the room, making their usual annoying and useless comments, Tomura let his heart and soul bond with the controller within his hands. Even while his colleagues gathered around him, picking up their own controllers and buzzing with excitement, Tomura felt nothing but a rush of calm. This might just be the most important trial of his life, but he would surpass it. He would fight.
He would win.
And so all players had entered the arena, gathered together and prepared for what was to come. It was finally time to fight. It was his time to shine, his...
“Tooomura, Tomuraaaa, can I pick the track thingy? Please, pretty please?”
Himiko grinned, looking over at her boss while the character selection page flashed onscreen. Shrugging, Tomura let himself focus again on the tv in front of him, “As long as we end on Rainbow Road I don’t really care.” And that was the end of his short and useless discussion, one not enough to distract him, but still startling him out of his trance.
Once everyone was ready, and Toga had her fill of flipping through the tracks as quickly as possible during her very professional and thoughtful selection process, Tomura let himself finally ease into things. He was gonna kick their n00b asses.
3… 2… 1… GO
Yeah, someone was probably going to die by the end of the night.
Two rounds had gone by in the blink of an eye, and Tomura was more confident than ever. Two rounds, and Tomura easily won them both. Already it was more than clear who reigned superior, so now all Tomura had to do was show one final time just who was in control. It was time for his final victory.
Half of the league had given up at this point, content to watch and joke around at the expense of those still playing rather than be involved themselves; some time within the first two rounds, Kurogiri and Mr. Compress had left to get more snacks, Twice was making a gripping commentary of all of the competitors moves, and magne had switched to being Toga’s personal cheer squad as part of their LOV Lady Solidarity Group. And so four were left to play.
In a few minutes time, there would only be One victor. Tomura would make sure he was the only one left with any pride. He would prove himself.
Everyone watched with bated breath as rainbow road filled the screen, their characters lighting up the dim room as the intro sequence quickly passed them by.  And then it was starting. The moment of truth.
All four players gave into the moment, bringing their focus on the screen as their characters started to move onscreen.
Toga was a laughing, maniacal mess as she leaned forward, uncaring as Bowser kept falling into oblivion; last place gave her what she truly wanted: a chance to blow up everyone in front of her, willingly giving up her chance at victory as a sacrifice for joy and general mayhem.
Spinner was intensely emotive, glaring at the screen as Luigi kept around 2nd to 3rd place and yelling out every time he fell behind. He wasn’t winning yet but he still had time to turn things around, Shigaraki wouldn’t know what had come for him.
Dabi, as infuriatingly attractive as ever, was lazily sprawled across the beanbag chair, seemingly uncaring of what was happening to Toad onscreen as he reached into a bag of chips despite actively playing.
Tomura, though, was unlike the others. There was quiet intensity behind his eyes, a hypnotic presence surrounding him as he put his soul into every press of his fingers, eyes glued to the screen as he sat, unmoving. The very air around him started to still, caught in the moment as he sped past everyone friend and foe alike, ready to finally have his success confirmed. It was the final lap now and not even the cheering, laughter, and incitive comments from the audience was enough to distract him.
Allowing a smug grin to stretch across his face as the finish line came into the distance, he continued to speed forward. This was it. His moment.
In one glorious second the heavens parted, leaving Tomura to bask in the smug certainty of triumph; finally he could prove himself superior, reaffirming his role as leader and supreme, as the one truly worthy of power, as not only the best gamer but the best person, as-
FUCK. No, no, fuck, it couldn’t be, it wasn’t possible,
“WHO the FUCK….Did you just fucking,,,,,, did you BLUE SHELL me?!?”
A silence fell over the room as Shy Guy fell into the oblivion below, the corner of Tomura’s screen blinking from 1st to 2nd, from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th. The moment Toad crossed the finish line, declaring him the Winner, a scream could be heard throughout the building, past the street, infecting the world as Tomura exploded in rage. Far off in the distance, several young heroes lifted their heads in confusion as they felt a disturbance in the force. Something terrible had just happened...
And Dabi was so fucking dead.
Like the little bitch he was, Dabi simply laughed at Tomura’s rage, grinning lazily as he waved his controller in front of Tomura’s reddening face and taking delight in the way Tomura’s glare washed over him. “What, you not manage to predict this, creep? And here I thought video games were your ‘thing’.” Tomura took a deep breath, collecting the hatred washing through him.
“Fuck. I’ve tried to be a good leader, but this….. this I can’t forgive.”
That was the only warning before a blur of black and pale blue sped over to Dabi’s laughing form, knocking him against the ground in a rush of righteous rage. It was a mess, many innocent beanbags lives’ being lost in the carnage. But Tomura couldn’t worry about that, his pride was on the line here. That little shit Dabi just thought he could go and steal his victory, and not only that, but he was so fucking rude about it! Dabi wasn’t even trying to win, he spent the whole time making shitty comments and throwing doritos at people (although in retrospect, he always was getting 2nd place wasn’t he?), and yet here he was taking what should have been Tomura’s.
And this wasn’t even something new! Dabi was always there, being an ass and making Tomura get all flustered and uncertain. But this, this was the fucking limit. There was a point where Tomura could take no more, ignore no further transgressions. Dabi stole his moment. It was only fair that Tomura steal something of Dabi’s in return. Something of equal value…. something like Dabi’s life.
The two rolled across the floor as Tomura reached towards Dabi’s exposed skin, hoping to finally have a solid touch; everyone else had stopped to watch the spectacle, unsure whether to step in. “Stop fighting back you piece of shit, I’m only trying to kill you!” Tomura growled, reaching for Dabi’s throat before being flipped, breath fleeing his lungs as he was caged between a crispy asshole and the unforgiving ground.
Lurching forward Tomura moved to headbutt him, hoping to loosen his grip so he could kill the raisin-looking fucker already. But despite his clearly outstanding strategy skills and tactical prowess, Tomura made a small miscalculation. When their foreheads met Tomura himself fell back, Dabi falling atop him as he groaned in pain and released his wrists. But that wasn’t the problem.
Dabi was directly on top of him, pressed against every inch of him, and, shit, this couldn’t be happening, did he just-
Opening his eyes, Tomura looked into the glowing blue hovering above him. The heat from Dabi’s breath ghosted over Tomura’s lips, reminding him of how the roughness of Dabi’s own felt against his. Dabi slowly pushed himself away with a smirk, taking in how Tomura was blushing, frozen beneath him.
“Wow, creep, if you wanted to kiss me you shoulda just said something. Who knew you were so bold.” His voice was as deadpan as his usual disinterested gaze despite the faint blush spreading across his cheeks, but for a moment a touch of emotion leaked through. Probably just cruel amusement, trying to make fun of Tomura as usual. What else could it possibly be?
“You….. I didn’t… what,” Tomura blinked rapidly, trying to process the turn of events.
Giggling, Toga and Magne shared a grin. “Should we leave? They seem to be having a moment.” Glancing around, everyone seemed to understand eachother, a visceral need to escape rising in their hearts. The rest of the League quickly fled the room, but the two boys on the floor hardly noticed, too distracted by the sudden magnetism of the moment.
Dabi smirked from above, raising an eyebrow to distract from the blush spreading across his own cheeks and down his chest.
“So. You gonna keep staring, or are you gonna kiss me again?”
“Was that a challenge, you crispy shit?”
Glaring up at him with a sharp light in his eyes, Tomura yanked Dabi downwards, messily smashing the mouths together in a flurry of lips and teeth. After a few moments Dabi grinned against him, pulling away to teasingly leave fluttering kisses along his jaw before Tomura yanked his hair to bring their mouths together once more. It was nice, despite everything, and Tomura felt himself melt into Dabi’s touch. This was clearly just another challenge, a new level where he could show Dabi who was boss, but still...
Maybe Tomura did win something after all.
epilogue:
Spinner let a single tear slip down his face, staring forlornly at the abandoned gaming system. He didn’t even get to finish playing…
Letting his hand softly caress the screen, he walked away with neon light haloing his silhouette. Tomura’s tantrum may have ruined it this time, but there was still hope. He wouldn’t let this be the end.
“I’ll come back soon, Mario Kart… we’ll play again, I promise.”
The darkness of the room didn’t respond.

Personal Top 6 Best M&L Game List
A list no one asked for and few will agree with (very few)
I don’t know why I’m doing this...
I guess so people know where my opinion stands regarding the Mario & Luigi games
Also Note: Nostalgic Biased Opinion, you are not forced to look. Also don’t take it too seriously even if it accurately portrays my opinions but its displayed in a jokey way so....
Just gonna jump in:
#1 Superstar Saga
Shocking! Its a part of my childhood and it has changed how I look at Super Mario games from then on out (For better or worse...).
#1.5 Superstar Saga Remake
Almost as good as the original, why the fuck did you decide to remove scenes, make Fungi Toads basic and change Mecha-Chomp you heathens!! And the amount of unnecessary detail added to the environments!
Also the god damn Minion Mode, no you know what?
#2 Superstar Saga Remake
You don’t deserve that .5! You’re lucky the core experience is mostly unchanged!
#3 Partners in Time
Yeah, the top 2 games are the first 2 games on the series (technically 3 but #2 is a remake so it doesn’t count), I know, I sound like a Nostalgic dick!
But I love Partners in Time! Its so grossly underrated, I wish people had given it a better chance. It honestly didn’t deserve any of the crap that’s been flung at it and it definitely didn’t deserve having its entire arc end in an uneventful Secret Boss Fight... God I hate that!
Anyways, this game deserved better!
#4 Dream Team
Despite the story, the awful awful story, the god awful excuse of a story they tried to push as something that can be considered equal to the other’s (in all fairness, shallow) engaging(*) stories of the series!
Its quite fun to play and I consider an improvement to the previous entry in the series! People have problems with tutorial and while I wanna say it never bothered me, I did immediately notice when it didn’t fling a tutorial at me during the beach section but that’s only cause I did the little dream portals out of order.
And I LOVED the Giant Battles. So much better than BiS.
I have like an unlimited amount of good and awful, AWFUL things to say about this game so it clearly belongs in the center of this list.
(*)shallow stories can be engaging, just saying
#5 Bowser’s Inside Story
Now this game is-Whoa hold on! I forgot something
#5 Bowser’s Inside Story Remake
Much Better! Now this remake is a clear improvement over the original, removing anything that made the original annoying or unfair or frustrating or lackluster or boring etc. etc. etc.
And instead replaced with immensely easily and pretty alternatives! The only reason its only #4 is cause the experience seems to be mostly unchanged and I will not play it. So unfortunately, this game will unfairly be placed below Dream Team but thankfully above Paper Jam~
#6 Paper Jam
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!!!
If it weren’t for the charming character writing that Alpha Dream put into these already established characters, Paper Jam would’ve been completely unbearable to play!
And King Bomb-Omb saved it from the awful fate of a #7. But the injustice they’ve done to Paper Luigi kept it at #6
#7
Now finally we’re at my least favorite game of the series, this piece of... wait a minute, where is it?
#8
Huh? Not here either! What the heck?
#9 Bowser’s Minion Mode
What are you doing down here?
#10 Bowser’s Inside Story
Aha! There you are!
This game!
Fuck this game!
You already know all my issues about BiS so... why repeat what I’ve been saying for the past month?
-tosses my hands in the air- I don’t feel like ranting about this game anymore. The only good thing its got going is the Final Boss, Controlling Bowser and Midbus n Fawful (arguably, my mind is slowly changing about Fawful’s inclusion here)
Hope this list brought you tons of happiness and didn’t make you want to send me anons telling me why I’m wrong on certain points and how meanly nostalgic and unfair I was!
Am I really that hated? Nah

Hamlet Mariofied: Act 1 Scene 2
Bolded names refer to the Mario characters playing the roles. The character role names remain unchanged in the context of the play and its dialogue.
Mario = Hamlet
Luigi = Horatio
Yoshi = Marcellus
Captain Toad = Bernardo
Bowser = Claudius
Peach = Gertrude
Kamek = Kamek
Larry = Laertes
Wendy = Ophelia
King Boo = Voltimand
Petey Piranha = Cornelius
Act 1, Scene 2
Elsinore. A room of state in the Castle.
[Enter Bowser, Peach, Mario, Kamek, Larry and his sister Wendy, King Boo, and Petey Piranha] Cue Castle/Fortress music for Super Mario World.
Bowser. Though yet of Hamlet our dear brother's death
The memory be green, and that it us befitted
To bear our hearts in grief, and our whole kingdom
To be contracted in one brow of woe,
Yet so far hath discretion fought with nature
That we with wisest sorrow think on him
Together with remembrance of ourselves.
Therefore our sometime sister, now our queen,
Th' imperial jointress to this warlike state,
Have we, as 'twere with a defeated joy,
With an auspicious, and a dropping eye,
With mirth in funeral, and with dirge in marriage,
In equal scale weighing delight and dole,
Taken to wife; nor have we herein barr'd
Your better wisdoms, which have freely gone
With this affair along. For all, our thanks.
Now follows, that you know, young Fortinbras,
Holding a weak supposal of our worth,
Or thinking by our late dear brother's death
Our state to be disjoint and out of frame,
Colleagued with this dream of his advantage,
He hath not fail'd to pester us with message
Importing the surrender of those lands
Lost by his father, with all bands of law,
To our most valiant brother. So much for him.
Now for ourself and for this time of meeting.
Thus much the business is: we have here writ
To Norway, uncle of young Fortinbras,
Who, impotent and bedrid, scarcely hears
Of this his nephew's purpose, to suppress
His further gait herein, in that the levies,
The lists, and full proportions are all made
Out of his subject; and we here dispatch
You, good Cornelius, and you, Voltimand,
For bearers of this greeting to old Norway,
Giving to you no further personal power
To business with the King, more than the scope
Of these dilated articles allow. [Gives a paper.]
Farewell, and let your haste commend your duty.
Petey Piranha. [with King Boo] In that, and all things, will we show our duty.
Bowser. We doubt it nothing. Heartily farewell.
[Exeunt King Boo and Petey Piranha.]
And now, Laertes, what's the news with you?
You told us of some suit. What is't, Laertes?
You cannot speak of reason to the Dane
And lose your voice. What wouldst thou beg, Laertes,
That shall not be my offer, not thy asking?
The head is not more native to the heart,
The hand more instrumental to the mouth,
Than is the throne of Denmark to thy father.
 What wouldst thou have, Laertes?
Larry. My dread lord,
Your leave and favour to return to France;
From whence though willingly I came to Denmark
To show my duty in your coronation,
Yet now I must confess, that duty done,
My thoughts and wishes bend again toward France
And bow them to your gracious leave and pardon.
Bowser. Have you your father's leave? What says Polonius?
Kamek. He hath, my lord, wrung from me my slow leave
By laboursome petition, and at last
Upon his will I seal'd my hard consent.
I do beseech you give him leave to go.
Bowser. Take thy fair hour, Laertes. Time be thine,
And thy best graces spend it at thy will!
But now, my cousin Hamlet, and my son-
Mario. [aside] A little more than kin, and less than kind!
Bowser. How is it that the clouds still hang on you?
Mario. Not so, my lord. I am too much i' th' sun.
Peach. Good Hamlet, cast thy nighted colour off,
And let thine eye look like a friend on Denmark.
Do not for ever with thy vailed lids
Seek for thy noble father in the dust.
Thou know'st 'tis common. All that lives must die,
Passing through nature to eternity.
Mario. Ay, madam, it is common.
Peach. If it be,
Why seems it so particular with thee?
Mario. Seems, madam, Nay, it is. I know not 'seems.'
'Tis not alone my inky cloak, good mother,
Nor customary suits of solemn black,
Nor windy suspiration of forc'd breath,
No, nor the fruitful river in the eye,
Nor the dejected havior of the visage,
Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief,
'That can denote me truly. These indeed seem,
For they are actions that a man might play;
But I have that within which passeth show-
These but the trappings and the suits of woe.
Bowser. 'Tis sweet and commendable in your nature, Hamlet,
 To give these mourning duties to your father;
But you must know, your father lost a father;
That father lost, lost his, and the survivor bound
In filial obligation for some term
To do obsequious sorrow. But to persever
In obstinate condolement is a course
Of impious stubbornness. 'Tis unmanly grief;
It shows a will most incorrect to heaven,
A heart unfortified, a mind impatient,
An understanding simple and unschool'd;
For what we know must be, and is as common
As any the most vulgar thing to sense,
Why should we in our peevish opposition
Take it to heart? Fie! 'tis a fault to heaven,
A fault against the dead, a fault to nature,
To reason most absurd, whose common theme
Is death of fathers, and who still hath cried,
From the first corse till he that died to-day,
'This must be so.' We pray you throw to earth
This unprevailing woe, and think of us
As of a father; for let the world take note
You are the most immediate to our throne,
And with no less nobility of love
Than that which dearest father bears his son
Do I impart toward you. For your intent
In going back to school in Wittenberg,
It is most retrograde to our desire;
And we beseech you, bend you to remain
Here in the cheer and comfort of our eye,
Our chiefest courtier, cousin, and our son.
Peach. Let not thy mother lose her prayers, Hamlet.
I pray thee stay with us, go not to Wittenberg.
Mario. I shall in all my best obey you, madam.
Bowser. Why, 'tis a loving and a fair reply.
Be as ourself in Denmark. Madam, come.
This gentle and unforc'd accord of Hamlet
Sits smiling to my heart; in grace whereof,
No jocund health that Denmark drinks to-day
But the great cannon to the clouds shall tell,
And the King's rouse the heaven shall bruit again,
 Respeaking earthly thunder. Come away.
Flourish. Exeunt all but Mario. Prompt Underground Music from Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
Mario. O that this too too solid flesh would melt,
Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew!
Or that the Everlasting had not fix'd
His canon 'gainst self-slaughter! O God! God!
How weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable
Seem to me all the uses of this world!
Fie on't! ah, fie! 'Tis an unweeded garden
That grows to seed; things rank and gross in nature
Possess it merely. That it should come to this!
But two months dead! Nay, not so much, not two.
So excellent a king, that was to this
Hyperion to a satyr; so loving to my mother
That he might not beteem the winds of heaven
Visit her face too roughly. Heaven and earth!
Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him
As if increase of appetite had grown
By what it fed on; and yet, within a month-
Let me not think on't! Frailty, thy name is woman!-
A little month, or ere those shoes were old
With which she followed my poor father's body
Like Niobe, all tears- why she, even she
(O God! a beast that wants discourse of reason
Would have mourn'd longer) married with my uncle;
My father's brother, but no more like my father
Than I to Hercules. Within a month,
Ere yet the salt of most unrighteous tears
Had left the flushing in her galled eyes,
She married. O, most wicked speed, to post
With such dexterity to incestuous sheets!
It is not, nor it cannot come to good.
But break my heart, for I must hold my tongue!
Enter Luigi, Yoshi, and Captain Toad. Cue Overworld Music from Super Mario Bros 2
Luigi. Hail to your lordship!
Mario. I am glad to see you well.
Horatio!- or I do forget myself.
Luigi. The same, my lord, and your poor servant ever.
Mario. Sir, my good friend- I'll change that name with you.
And what make you from Wittenberg, Horatio?
 Marcellus?
Yoshi. My good lord!
Mario. I am very glad to see you.- [To Toad] Good even, sir.-
But what, in faith, make you from Wittenberg?
Luigi. A truant disposition, good my lord.
Mario. I would not hear your enemy say so,
Nor shall you do my ear that violence
To make it truster of your own report
Against yourself. I know you are no truant.
But what is your affair in Elsinore?
We'll teach you to drink deep ere you depart.
Luigi. My lord, I came to see your father's funeral.
Mario. I prithee do not mock me, fellow student.
I think it was to see my mother's wedding.
Luigi. Indeed, my lord, it followed hard upon.
Mario. Thrift, thrift, Horatio! The funeral bak'd meats
Did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables.
Would I had met my dearest foe in heaven
Or ever I had seen that day, Horatio!
My father- methinks I see my father.
Luigi. O, where, my lord?
Mario. In my mind's eye, Horatio.
Luigi. I saw him once. He was a goodly king.
Mario. He was a man, take him for all in all.
I shall not look upon his like again.
Luigi. My lord, I think I saw him yesternight.
Mario. Saw? who?
Luigi. My lord, the King your father.
Mario. The King my father?
Luigi. Season your admiration for a while
With an attent ear, till I may deliver
Upon the witness of these gentlemen,
This marvel to you.
Mario. For God's love let me hear!
Luigi. Two nights together had these gentlemen
(Marcellus and Bernardo) on their watch
In the dead vast and middle of the night
Been thus encount'red. A figure like your father,
Armed at point exactly, cap-a-pe,
Appears before them and with solemn march
Goes slow and stately by them. Thrice he walk'd
By their oppress'd and fear-surprised eyes,
Within his truncheon's length; whilst they distill'd
Almost to jelly with the act of fear,
Stand dumb and speak not to him. This to me
In dreadful secrecy impart they did,
And I with them the third night kept the watch;
Where, as they had deliver'd, both in time,
Form of the thing, each word made true and good,
The apparition comes. I knew your father.
These hands are not more like.
Mario. But where was this?
Yoshi. My lord, upon the platform where we watch'd.
Mario. Did you not speak to it?
Luigi. My lord, I did;
But answer made it none. Yet once methought
It lifted up it head and did address
Itself to motion, like as it would speak;
But even then the morning cock crew loud,
And at the sound it shrunk in haste away
 And vanish'd from our sight.
Mario. 'Tis very strange.
Luigi. As I do live, my honour'd lord, 'tis true;
And we did think it writ down in our duty
To let you know of it.
Mario. Indeed, indeed, sirs. But this troubles me.
Hold you the watch to-night?
Yoshi. [with Toad] We do, my lord.
Mario. Arm'd, say you?
Yoshi. [with Captain Toad] Arm'd, my lord.
Mario. From top to toe?
Yoshi. [with Toad] My lord, from head to foot.
Mario. Then saw you not his face?
Luigi. O, yes, my lord! He wore his beaver up.
Mario. What, look'd he frowningly.
Luigi. A countenance more in sorrow than in anger.
Mario. Pale or red?
Luigi. Nay, very pale.
Mario. And fix'd his eyes upon you?
Luigi. Most constantly.
Mario. I would I had been there.
Luigi. It would have much amaz'd you.
Mario. Very like, very like. Stay'd it long?
Luigi. While one with moderate haste might tell a hundred.
Yoshi. [with Captain Toad] Longer, longer.
 Luigi. Not when I saw't.
Mario. His beard was grizzled- no?
Luigi. It was, as I have seen it in his life,
A sable silver'd.
Mario. I will watch to-night.
 Perchance 'twill walk again.
Luigi. I warr'nt it will.
Mario. If it assume my noble father's person,
I'll speak to it, though hell itself should gape
And bid me hold my peace. I pray you all,
If you have hitherto conceal'd this sight,
Let it be tenable in your silence still;
And whatsoever else shall hap to-night,
Give it an understanding but no tongue.
I will requite your loves. So, fare you well.
Upon the platform, 'twixt eleven and twelve,
I'll visit you.
All. Our duty to your honour.
Mario. Your loves, as mine to you. Farewell.
[Exeunt all but Mario.]
My father's spirit- in arms? All is not well.
I doubt some foul play. Would the night were come!
Till then sit still, my soul. Foul deeds will rise,
Though all the earth o'erwhelm them, to men's eyes.
Exit.
