Why yes I am using the Silt Verses to push propaganda for some of my faves 🤭
If you like TSV for its weirdo eldritch gods and cosmic horror most of these would fit.
If you're specifically looking for capitalism-core with a dash of lovecraft type shit The Craft Sequence and The Dead Take the A Train got you.
If you're looking for the Ace/aro Mood while attempting to comprehend the horrors and being persecuted for your creepy fantasy religion try Winter Tide/The Innsmouth Legacy.
You looking for the unhinged queers who do murder in the name of their gods + a middle-aged trans MC who's just trying her best™ No Gods For Drowning might be for you.
Ya like the messed up saints?the body horror?and devastation that the gods in TSV bring? The Black Iron Legacy might do you some good.
Suppressed religions & dangerous gods 2 electric boogaloo aka The Divine Cities. Also got that sweet sweet political intrigue and commentary on colonisers/colonised dynamic among other things.
TWs:violence, death, gore, body horror for most of these. Some sexual references but nothing too graphic, In the Craft Sequence I do remember Three Parts Dead having a non-consenual kiss, can't recall any further SA atm.
I'm bad at explaining but just try them. K thx bye.

The Dead Take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw and Richard Kadrey has such a fucking cool cover. And it's gay and has gross magicians and monsters and shit. I need it so bad

This book has really managed the rare feat of actually making me believe that a protagonist with no shit reality-breaking level magical superpowers is also personally such a comprehensive trashfire of a human she basically lives in the gutter and is consistently behind on rent for it.

Currently Reading: The Dead Take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw and Richard Kadrey
This is the first book that has been able to grab my attention and actually hold it for about the last month. December was full of reading fanfic till my eyes rolled out of my head. Nothing against fanfic, I love it! But I also need something new. And this book is it.
There's no real way to describe this book, other than it feels very much like Cassandra Khaw's work. There are instances of body horror that will make your stomach roll, and sarcastic love and believability to the characters as they try to figure out what the hell is going on and how to fix it before Julie ends up dead or New York ends up dead...messily.
And while I don't know much of Richard Kadrey's work, this being the first book of his I've read, I'm curious and will probably seek out more of his stuff.

oooooh you wanna read the dead take the a train so bad
its the first horror book ive ever read and honestly its set a high bar for the horror genre, and there's a sequel coming!
first of all, its very sapphic and has lots of pining and getting rid of abusive exes
second, the main character is a badass. she a monster hunter for hire who's always struggling financially bc ppl dont pay her, shes sarcastic, and she she uses magic in her work (not high fantasy kind of magic tho). (if you need a character comparison to help with the mantal image then id say shes kind of like john constantine.)
THIRD, theres a lot of monsters and body horror and an overall sense of something WRONG going on. the whole time i was waiting for the other shoe to drop (and it did)
fourth, there are fantastic side characters who make the story so much better (where would we be without them)
and fifth ill put under a read more bc it is a spoiler
FIFTH! there are no angels. i dislike seeing them in books woth demons and there are none in this one, i promise.

Yes!!!! The gore! The humor! The main character coming from her pov in NYC and the way this involves that city's most elite! (I'm applauding) (Standing ovation)
Julie is about as real as they get, and I immediately loved her sarcastic, no nonsense, beautiful style when it came to handling some very... very... disgusting creatures. She is barely making it by, spending too much money on drugs and liquor and not enough on keeping up with rent. When she becomes invested in a bigger fight than usual.
This was empowering (in a weird way, I guess, but still), and I was diabolically giggling while simultaneously being horrified (what must my neighbors think??). It's definitely a great read.
Out October 3, 2023!
Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!!

Liber Coven | November/December 2023 Reading Guide
The Book
Monthly Book
In November and December, we will be reading The Take the A Train by Richard Kadrey and Cassandra Khaw.
Reading Schedule
To keep everyone on the same page, I have put together the following schedule.
Do not feel like this schedule governs what pace you read the book at. It is more of a loose guideline for when we, as a group, will be at certain places in the book as the month goes on and when we will likely be talking about various sections. Feel free to read as fast or slow as you need to!
Week One (November 5 - 11): Chapter 1-4
Week Two (November 12 - 18): Chapters 5-8
Week Three (November 19 - 25): Chapters 9-12
Week Four (November 26 - December 2): Chapters 13-16
Week Five (December 3 - 9): Chapters 17-20
Week Six (December 10 - 16): Chapters 21-24
Week Seven (December 17 - 23): Chapters 25-28
Week Eight (December 24 - 30): Chapters 29-end
*You might notice that any appendices that appear in the book are not included in this schedule. They are short and easy to study on your own. Feel free to discuss them with the rest of the book, though.*
Happy reading, witchlings!

Waiting on Wednesday!
Today on my blog I have a #WaitingonWednesday post spotlighting a 2023 fantasy/horror release that sounds like it's going to be one quirky read!
Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that first originated at Breaking the Spine but has since linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings now that the original creator is unable to host it anymore. Either way, this fun feature is a chance to showcase the upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on! Hello, hello! I hope you’re all having a fun week so far. I’m…
