SPOILERS FOR STRANGER THINGS VOLUME 2

Ok here’s a list of why everyone is saying volume 2 was so much worse than every other part (part 6).

Im putting all the groups in seperate posts so its not too long. Here’s just the overall reasons it sucked.

GENERAL

1. The fucking two day time skip. Oh please. First of all, that was the most pathetic excuse to not show everyone trying to get out of the upside down and/or grieving Eddie. It was like the duffers could see all the loose ends they left and just decided to make that time skip so if ever anyone asked they can say “oh yeah that was addressed in the two days afterwards”. Second, you’re telling me that I’m only two days, everyone made a miraculous recovery except Max and Dustin??? Where did his limp even come from? Duffers you can’t just give him a limp to show that he’s been in a fight he has to have actually INJURED HIS LEG. No scars or bruises on the teens faces, only Lucas’s black eye, Dustin’s limp, and Max’s everything. Ok so they got Max. But literally everyone else? And they’re not even upset about Max or Eddie??? What???

2. They went on and on about time this and time that and there was literally nothing to do with time. The clock was just to say that four people had to die before times up (great pun but wtf). With all the actors saying this season would be carnage, I was expecting an Avengers Endgame type thing, where El somehow reversed time. But, much like pretty much every other plot point from volume 1, it was completely ignored.

3. Angela? She was just gone? Mike and El never discussed it again? Yet another point from volume 1 they forgot about.

4. Will’s birthday. I still can’t believe they forgot that.

5. How did no one in Hawkins notice the giant glowing red x in the ground from all the murder sites in the earthquake zone??? What?

6. The whole team just let Eddie be called a murderer??? And they just left his body in the upside down and were all fine except Dustin??? Once again, what???

7. Max’s mum not being in the hospital room and her trailer probably being destroyed seeing as it was right next to Eddie’s. Obviously she’s most likely dead, and yet they never addressed that?

8. The relationship between the mind flayer and Vecna was never addressed?

9. The fact that the upside down was frozen in time was never addressed???

10. All the queerbaiting. And using their only queer characters to further straight relationships.

Honestly this whole volume felt like it was made by completely different people with no idea what they’re doing.

Not Will, because he's putting his heart on the chopping block even though he's the only one capable of loving Mike as he deserves. Not Mike, because the person he loves is telling him that the person he no longer feels romantically attached to (El) still needs him in a way he'd like Will to. Not Jonathan, because he is Will's single greatest ally and is watching him break his own heart for Mike, who (no matter how much of a pain he's been some moments) is someone he's watched love and care for his brother for nearly a decade now.

And then...the moment the very last character not lying to himself or others being the moment that catalyzed disaster for not only Will's heart, but everything that happened in that SBP + in the mindspace with Vecna? For the loss of Max and the apocalypse right after?

Even removing the romantic weight...this is why friends don't lie.

This is my brother. He is 18 years old. He is an accurate example of the type of boy Karen Wheeler, a fully grown adult woman in her 40's, regularly flirted with and hit on at the PUBLIC pool (cause it was very clearly a pattern of continuous behavior judging by how comfortable he felt being so close to her in the open in S3E1).

He's goofy, he's athletic, and every time we talk on the phone or in person he wants advice about girls or dating or sex. Because he's 18, and that's what it's like going through the final stages of physical development.

So yeah. I don't wanna hear shit from the antis about how "grown up" Billy was or how he "seduced" Karen away from her family.

That woman had a fully formed prefrontal cortex. That woman had 3 kids and a husband. That woman groomed a teenage boy from her daughter's graduating class into a viable sex partner because she was bored and unsatisfied with Ted.

Billy is not the perpetrator of some great homewrecking plot. He's a lonely, horny, emotionally vulnerable teenager who's desperate for some kind - probably any kind - of positive attention.

honestly I'm so confused on how bad the season 4 volume 2 ending was, like it was so bad, so bad. They put these shields on the main cast or their favourite og characters, (and I mean you can tell who has plot armour; cough cough nancy, mike, Steve, Erica and most of the main cast, they couldn't even kill of Max).

like the death set up for eddies painful monologue and dustin sobbing over him to Max and lucas as Max cries about not wanting to die. then dying and all of Hawkins falling. WONDERFUL. but then instead of sticking to that they revive Max and now she's just a poorly written plot pusher for season 5 who is nothing but brain dead.

and the time skip? every season the duffers finish of the season with some neat and tidy time skip that pulls at emotions and doesn't leave many loose ends, they hint at what is to come in the following season without letting it feel unfinished.

but season 4, lord it was awful.

2 day time skip, California crew comes back to Hawkins after having little to no screen time and absolutely zero threat to face. they reunite at the wheeler house, but this reunion is like 0.2 seconds long and then there all like "oh boy where's lucas and max".

they show lucas reading a book to what you would assume be alive but blind, and broken Max, because why else would you bring her back to life, but it's her brain dead with all of her limbs broken.

will, mike and eleven all have their reunion with lucas it's short lived because we need 5 minutes of eleven sitting on Max's bed crying, holding her hand and saying im here. she searches in her like black mind magic realm for Max, she can't find her (this is what she does in her room at hoppers cabin as well), ding ding Max is brain dead so eleven pulling her magical reviving powers out of her ass is all for nothing.

then they all hop in the van and go to hoppers house to hide el from the military, which just disappeared for all of chapter 9, and left the California crew as filler and comedy. they clean, there's a moment between nancy and johnathon where he asks if they're okay and nancy is all like "uh yeah tots" after she spent all of season 4 eye fucking Steve.

will and Mike talk about eleven again, shocker. mike is all like "I'm glad one is dead and rotting" and wills like "uh no he's alive, and although I could have become a main character and been used to help defeat vecna no we stayed in Nevada. oh and by the way when I entered Hawkins I felt him again". and he's having his moment which is just as short lived as ever as what you think is going to be the military pops up.

but nahhh it's just Joyce and hopper with no Murray or Russian dude 1 or Russian dude 2. they have these terrible quick little reunions which pull absolutely no tears, then will touches his neck and then again you think he's going to have more than 5 seconds of screen time but nah.

they all walk onto a field touch some flowers, look at the sky which just looks like a red storm nothing to scary scary, then it cuts to black.

and don't even get me started on the like relief station set up for some of the characters, like Dustin's section with eddies uncle IS GREAT. it jerks a few tears, shows a character grieving grieving character that died in that season instead of just being like; "oh yeah nah they're completely fine dont worry about then watching their best friend die brutally".

then there's the whole stupid Steve being sad about not getting it on with nancy after his whole character arc evolves around him finding himself, accepting that he doesn't need a partner to be Steve, and that he likes babysitting the kids. but instead of the duffers biting the bullet and having Steve be killed of and have a reaction of heart break from everyone, they decide that he should throw all his character development away for the same dusty ship.

then robin instead of getting closure in waiting for her right time, they just give her whatever, because like what evs. she gets to talk to vikkie who is now boyfriendless and still not interested, even through whatever nice interaction they had.

I guess I just thought since they said so many things leading up to volume to that it would have some happen.

they pushed on about byler happening or getting more screen time, AND wills sexuality being addressed (which is like me because him having this massive im gay thing after spending 4 seasons hiding it and being this quite kid doesnt really fit his character) but no he's just used to push the plot of mileven further, after spending all of season 3 and most of season 4 working towards them growing apart and not needing eachother.

they said it would be more scary ??? and also 5 people would die, but like 5 people didn't die, and at least not people important to the plot, 1. papa. 2. eddie. 2.5 Max. 3.jason?

anyways I'm starting to understand why some people dislike the duffers poor writing.

This might be optimism, full on delusion and blind faith in the suffer brothers but I feel like they're postponing any canon queer couple in Stranger things because they have one season left. This show began as a coming-of-age story for almost all audiences and unfortunately if they received enough backlash in between the years of filming, regardless of how much money they've made or could make, arguably their show would be cancelled.

I know it isn't fair and regardless of what happens it is valid for people to be upset. Especially about queerbaiting. But sincerely, I think they're testing the waters with Robin. Sadly, it has always been easier for the public to accept wlw before mlm. When they introduced her, everyone thought she was Steve's new love interest and she was, just not romantically. I feel like her coming out at the end of the season, her having a crush that seemed like she was straight and barely part of the story, were small steps into something bigger. And I know if this is true it's also problematic in it's own way, but with how queer representation has been treated in shows marketed to teenagers, I wouldn't blame them. But if this isn't what they're doing, then why would they hint at Will's queerness throughout the entire show?
