obsessed with this big meathead who comes into a completely different country, the only reason he's there is bc hes following the king's orders and the first thing he asks is the correct title to refer to the person they're talking to. my boy likes above all RULES and ETIQUETTE

hes so funny bc its like. of fucking course he drove jasper insane bc this boy lives life with no nuance. he does as he's told and he's a bit literal about his duties, and bc hes a big strong guy who doesn't talk much and doesn't NEED to as a knight, its utterly unquestioned

hes lived his entire life in many ways unchallenged? like hes fought physically

but in contrast jasper has always been relatively neglected, physically and emotionally in hendrik's shadow as an inferior knight even THOUGH they're evenly matched as fighters

bc jasper's smaller and pretty and just a bit too cold? he's not Naturally Heroic like hendrik, he DOESNT just follow orders without thinking, he has his own goals and opinions which have by definition made him less trustworthy bc of what a knight is ~supposed~ to be

and meanwhile hendrik is utterly blindsided by all this betrayal. having spent the decades of his life desperately and dutifully following the orders of a corrupt king, he's relieved he can KEEP doing so bc the corruption is gone

and in lieu of jasper as his partner and balance, he's just cleft himself to the Luminary instead. he has learned nothing - or having learned what he has, he is still incapable of change in his actual circumstances, bc to change would require so much introspection

and he has never done that before! he has never been forced to consider what HE believes in, what HE really thinks, what the nuances are. he was told to be a good hero and a good knight and he just does what he thinks ppl mean

which is why he fucking bursts into tears in front of the crowd when he comes back to carnelian after fighting to regain Heliodor, because like. carnelian told him he was good and heroic and he was scared he'd failed, and therefore ruined his whole life

There is always those meeting as children aus out there. But what about a luminerik childhood crushes set in the dragon quest treasures universe? I just think it would be near, if a certain Luminary prince had stumbled there, hot mixed up in crazy shit and runs into kid Erik and Mia. Cue funny escape scene, and the trio loving the exploring and talking about home.

Oh yeah and the luminary never left his home, nobody died or was attacked, so it's cute him as a prince.
