fandom: genshin impact characters: albedo, venti, zhongli, xiao, wanderer reader type: gender neutral summary: yearning for someone came hand in hand with heartache. genre: angst and fluff, hurt/comfort. warnings: implied reader's death, also implied character death (xiao and wanderer kinda uh want to unlive themselves but not explicitly? i think?), mourning, slight sumeru spoilers for wanderer's. written as of 3.2 update. notes: inspired by hikaru utada's one last kiss. might do a part two, not sure when it'll be ready haha. xiao's and wanderer's are longer because i love them and i was feeling sadder as i wrote them so lol there they are. i'm sleepy but i wanted to finish these... i'll see if theres anything i need to edit tomorrow.

The meaning of this world, the truth of this world, Albedo thinks, is held within your hands. It is perhaps not the one he was looking for, or the one he had been expected to find, but personally? He would take this as the truth of the world.

Love is the truth of this world, the meaning of all sentient existence. The love one takes and gives, selflessly yet selfish al the same. The kind of love one feels from friends and family and lovers. Love is what really gives the world a meaning for those who live in it.

And for him, it is your love that fills his life with a new meaning.

Love that made him step away from experiments and investigation to take a stroll through the city, love that made him blush and giggle, love that brought a foreign yet sweet warm sensation to his chest, love that you held within your hands every time your fingers intertwined.

Love that somehow, with no reasoning or explanation, survived through all the uncertainty of fate, and the undeniable, unescapable cycle of life and death.

When your and Albedo's story is forced to come to a stop, he won't deny he felt his whole world came crashing down. Yet, more than anything, he feels grateful.

Perhaps at that time, he still would not find the truth of the world his master wanted him to. But one thing is for sure, and that's because of you, and everything you taught him.

If time and chance allow it, his love for you will be immortalized in paintings exhibited in museums; depictions of you and him, and you, you, you and you. Even when he, himself, has long since disappeared, that last trace of your love, of the truth of his world, will be preserved.

For Venti, freedom is everything. He would never tie you down so you could stay with him, even if that is what he would want the most. However, that also means he will not stop you if you, of your own free will, decide to spend the rest of your life with him.

He is selfish, just not selfish enough to decide what is best for you in your stead. This is why, he wholeheartedly decides to love you back without holding anything back, living each day like it is the last, enjoying the present doing anything and everything and nothing all at the same time.

It's ballads and tales, it's drinking and laughing at his silly shenanigans when he gets drunk, it's enjoying the breezes as you glide together and resting on the green hills and valleys of Mondstadt together, every day something new, every day a new memory to keep.

But, he knows, this won't last.

He is very well acquainted with loss, and the fragility of human life.

That is why he insisted on spending so much time together, it is why he was always clingy whenever the timing was right, why he insisted on making you laugh and smile every single day you were together.

The years spent together may seem long to you, even as you took your final breath. Yet, for him, it truly felt like it had been merely the blink of an eye. A momentary sigh, a brief instant of happiness.

Venti will sing ballads of you, for an audience of people or the always reliable, always present audience of the winds. And he knows that, even once his days come to an end, and until the end of this world, your love will be preserved, for eternities to come.

There is, after all, no world where the wind doesn't blow, even if it has come to an stop.

For Zhongli, contracts are everything. In his eyes, promises made are promises kept, and that is precisely what he does.

To you, he promised his love. For better or for worse, in sickness and in health, in life and death. In his own experience and words, everything must come to an end and every journey has its final day, but there is no need to rush. This is why, he never makes it a point to consciously think about the clock mercilessly ticking by as you spend your life with him.

Zhongli, the human, lives with you and shares countless experiences after experiences with you. From the simplest glance to the longest conversation to the harshest of arguments to the sweetest of kisses, Zhongli makes sure to live it with you, in the present moment, mind focused on here and now, carving each memory into his heart with the same precision an artist would carve a statue out of the finest jade.

The former god understands and accepts your mortality, and accepts it as a part of what makes you be who you are. He accepts it, and holds your hand, ever so resilient, as you take your last breaths, and bids you goodbye with a grateful smile and teary eyes.

Perhaps the legends of the mighty God of Contracts will never talk about your love, but even if there is no one left to share your memories with him, until erosion eventually claims him too, his heart won't stop beating for you.

Xiao would be lying if he said he never once doubted your sanity in the time he's known you. After all, why would you do something so terrible to yourself like willingly spending time with him? You must've been insane, he thought.

But, in reality, he was glad you were that little bit insane enough to open a space for him in your life.

From the very start, he's known you wouldn't be there forever. He is all too aware of how fragile life is, of how ephemeral you truly are. Like the sweetest of dreams, you feel like a fragile illusion of happiness that will be gone in the blink of an eye. Oh, but you are real, you are oh so real, and he knows it when you cradle his face with your hands and gently wipe the tears that silently fall down from his tired eyes that stare ahead, filled with complicated emotions, on a face far too unused to emoting, on a body far too small for the true amount of feelings that resided within it.

And he is quiet but his mind is loud, keeps him hyper aware of how short these moments of joy and peace are with you. And, although he would've never blamed you if you ever decided to leave him of your own will, he is glad you never did, he is glad that you would never do so. He is glad that you decided to spend your days with him, glad you were patient enough to wait for him to learn how to properly love you, glad you let him love you.

The days spent with you are easily the best fragment of Xiao's life. Short-lived, ephemeral, dreamlike, everything. Unforgettable.

He would like to keep you forever. His most selfish, impossible dream is for you to stay forever by his side. Greedy he is, but never enough to burden you with such thoughts. Instead, he took every opportunity he had to spend time with you, no matter what you were doing, he wanted to be there, even if it was in a place he didn't like, he didn't want to waste a single second of your life.

When you depart from the world of the living, a part of him leaves with you.

And, Xiao knew when he fell in love. You would be the death of him.

He won't last long after you leave.

He'll do his best to live, because he knows you would want him to live, but he truly won't be able to do so for long.

Legends will speak of the tragically beautiful love that Liyue's last Yaksha had towards a human, speak of how he learned how to be human for love, of how his love was so intense and pure it was the only thing that kept him tied to the world of the living for years to come.

And when Xiao's time comes, he smiles as he sheds tears and looks up at the infinite blue sky.

When the light leaves his eyes, and his last breath is a sweet proclamation of his everlasting love for you, he knows.

He will see you in another life, in another world.

It took him three betrayals to finally understand: the world is an elaborated tapestry of lies.

It took him pain and humiliation, having his one purpose taken away, for him to understand: just because you want something, that does not mean you will get it. No matter what you do, if the world decides you won't have it, then you won't.

Receiving kindness from the dendro archon was and the blessing of an anemo vision were some of the things that set him on the right path to find his true wishes on his own, but most importantly, your existence in his life made something inside him turn and twist. You filled him with an achingly bittersweet yearning to love and be loved, you made him want to trust, made him willing to endure pain and betrayal if it meant he could spend eternity with you.

Eternity, the concept that his creator was (or still is, he wouldn't know) so obsessed with, obsessed with enough to discard him like worthless dross and abandon him to fend for himself with no instructions or expectations. Now, Wanderer felt as though he could understand her just a bit.

Or maybe a lot.

Eternity stretches things over a long time, but each moment within it becomes all the more fragile.

Nevertheless, when he had you, when you loved him, he finally understood why his mother was so desperate back then to attain eternity. He, too, when affronted with the harsh reality that you and your comforting warmth would not be around for long, desperately wished for a miracle to happen so he could stay forever with you. You living forever or him going with you once you left, he cared not, he only wanted you you you you and nothing else.

But, as he discovered, after long periods of anger and denial over painful feelings, acceptance is sure to come.

You are not like him in the slightest. Born human, with a heart of your own, knowing kindness and happiness from people around you, while his body was just a mere imitation of human flesh, an empty husk unfit for the only task he was created to perform. Yet, you still loved him as though he was not an easily replaceable abomination, but a human.

After you're gone, he cries the most he's ever cried. Rests his head on your chest that has long since stopped moving up and down with your breathing while his ears are met with silence when before he would listen to your comforting heartbeat, and he cries.

It will be long before the life of the Wanderer comes to an end- after all, he was created to endure an eternity functioning. Every dawn and every sunset, every passing breeze and station, he will remind the days you were together, and smile, as the empty space in his chest weeps silently, waiting, longing, hoping there exists a day in which he can meet you again.

For now, now that you're not with him anymore, he would simply keep walking, chasing the breeze that blows on a bright afternoon.

KH opening Songs are about Soriku -Chikai Translation

KH Utada songs are sung and written in thought of Riku and Sora, Nomura told Hikaru Utada and they went along with it.

The difference between the English and Japanese versions of the songs is that the lyrics are completely different, but for a purpose. It's not like a translation issue.

There is an absolute reason for it. They're two separate songs with different but similar meanings.

Like Chikai doesn't translate close to Don't Think Twice except for the Kiss me Once lines.

We're going to take a look at Chikai since it's the one I'm most familiar with and break it down on how it relates to Riku.

I don’t care much about destiny, but at this point, I cannot but acknowledge its existence

Are you really sure you’re happy with me? Really?

I wish you wouldn’t raise my hopes up too much

The fire line refers to he doesn't like destiny but is forced to acknowledge it chose certain things from events.

It shows that Riku is insecure and shown that through how he acted in KH1. He thought his best friend was going to leave him and he did bad stuff.

In return it made him feel worse about his friendship and he went to castle oblivion and dealt out his insecurities along with the darkness and fear. Then he had to be one with the darkness in 358/2 days.

The line where is stated to not raise his hopes, I think refers to his emotions towards Sora and hope Sora didn't care about his appearance he was still his friend.

It could also refer to he papou fruit.

But it's gay.

Today is the perfect day for a truthful, eternal vow

We don’t need beautiful flowers or witnesses

The narrator wants to PROPOSE. I assume the narrator is Riku here, he wants to be with Sora and then get married. There doesn't have to be an audience or witness, they can just wear rings of the same color. And then the vow line is just 👌

It probably refers to the promise Riku made to want to protect him/ his friends.

What I am about to say is not a second hand line, nor a promise; it's a vow

He is shy and embarrassed that he likes him and that he wants to fall asleep next to Sora. This is so cute 🥺

Like he clearly wants affection but is embarrassed like in DDD when Sora hugs him.

Then he says he wants a vow since those are seen as eternal while promises can be broken.

The liar is probably referring to not telling his feelings and how he acted against Sora in KH1 and then felt ashamed for his jealousy. Then he talks about the RINGS AGAIN the color of sunshine. Like dawn and he wants the road of dawn.

This section is just him being gay and wanting to lay with him again. He wants to lay together where Sora's heartbeat is on top of his so he'll hear and feel it. This is a bit too much for me to handle. Then the last line I think probably is Kh2 ending where they are content with each other 😊 😆

The tears that I can’t hold back sometimes, there’s no deep meaning to them

It’s just that I recall the past unexpectedly (Ah, I want to cry)

A light streams in from the opened door

This part breaks my heart. He sometimes cry because of the past and what he did in KH1 and probably insecure about that and feels like Sora deserves better.

The light streams refers to KH2 ending where the door opens from the darkness. And how he is also shown to be light, also Sora being his light.

I want to be with you, for a very long time

Other options have long been gone

Today is the perfect day, for an unprecedented vow, our vow

He wants to be with him for a long time and how he doesn't want to loose him. However that ends up happening in KH3 ending.

Other options are gone refers probably him realizing he might have a chance. Then the line is about their gay little vow.

Like in the games they are into each other and these lines are just so fitting and so cute.

You know how I said he's too shy, well he's too shy to do anything and wants Sora to make the first move.

Like he secretly wants to be kissed, hug, touched, ect.. He wants affection from him. Here he wants to be kissed but once isn't enough and he is giving his connected permission to be kissed and wants to make sure he's okay with it too. He's like more needy here since this line pretty similar to the DTW counterpart song.

The please here adds everything like he really wants it and he is asking for it so much.

Okay so basically he in turn says let's live vow to live our lives together. It could refer to marriage or just a vow to live together because they like each other. And they'll be by the sunrise referring to Riku like the DAWN he walks the road of dawn.

And that is it.

It's pretty gay and like if you don't ship them fine.

And if you don't see how it relates to them that's okay, however Nomura did mention to Utada to keep them in mind when writing the songs.

And if you ship Sorkai tell me how you think it relates to them instead.

I'm just curious.

DTW and Chikai are vastly different but they are different songs with the same instrumental and beat.

What do you think about how kingdom hearts chooses its theme songs? Some soriku fans are talking about passion being about sora and riku's 'love'....

I mean, Sora and Riku's reunion in the game is obviously a central part of this larger theme of reunion, and it acts as a conclusion to Hikari/Simple & Clean thematically. But it's much more simple than that based on what's been told about it's conception and how it was utilized. For example:

---Following the previous game, Utada Hikaru also sang the theme song for this game, "Passion." Nomura: Many fans seem to have the image Kingdom Hearts = Utada Hikaru so I didn't think of changing that at all. This time I wrote a story explanation for her that's longer than the previous game's. We decided to have it played at the last scene, so for me the theme was "Sora and Riku's reunion." I wrote stuff like "An image of a reunion, a happy moment in a way" and "Like a Hikari 2" in there.

Based on the phrasing, the most optimal understanding for the last two sentences is if "Sora and Riku's reunion" is in regards to their reunion with everyone else, i.e. the last scene where the song played which prompted the thought of said reunion. There's a missing context of "with everyone" there not being said, but that's fine really as something just being said. I mean, highest chances are the "image of a happy reunion" that Utada Hikaru received, amongst other specific things unbeknownst to us (they also wanted to convey a lot of different things)—what they got should have also involved the nature of the last scene considering it's where the song plays besides the intro and features the conclusion to Hikari nicely (even without digging into the undertones then of Sora and Kairi specifically there). I don't think there's a single main theme that isn't inspired by or is detached from the last scene of the game within it's conception. -shrug- So it's pretty important as a focus.

Reunion and Friendship are huge themes in KH2—how is it not going to be about THE ultimate and final, full circle reunion in the game. Come on now. XD

However, even with the implied "Sora and Riku's reunion (with everyone else)", their reunion obviously still is a large part of the wider theme within the game's ending here. Sora literally spent the game looking for him, he thought Roxas had killed him (the word for "defeat" in JPN is the same that Sora used to Mickey when talking about defeating Ansem SoD)—so especially because of the latter, their literal reunion at TWTNW was a big, touching moment. Showing Sora and Riku on the beach (their "symbolic" reunion with their talk on the beach) as the traditional last in-game picture (which is also moments before reuniting with everyone else), thus also makes a lot of sense too for capturing this theme. Even Nojima utilized the friendship between Sora and Riku as a theme for the scenario. But overall, the boys finally together again and reuniting with everyone else back where the game began, and ending with Sora and Kairi cementing it in reflection of a conclusion to Hikari—it's pretty perfect.

So yeah. Still, it does have a specific application that goes beyond Sora and Riku, though. It's a bit different than Hikari's conception and Chikai's application, how those two evidently are a direct reflect Sora and Kairi in conception, but these wouldn't be themes unless they represented something wider and thus, and also had wider application too beyond it's origin. The most easiest way to see this is how it's used for other games—this mostly applies to Dearly Beloved (especially this as THE main theme), Hikari, and Passion, but Chikai is just...directly and exclusively about Sora and Kairi at this current point. lol

why do you say my name , even though it hurts you ?

He found that couldn't escape his ever-present thoughts as he carried on throughout the town. The questions without answers, doubts and suspicions, regrets and thing he could not afford to forget would not leave him be. They clouded his vision, so he could no longer see the path in front of him. There was voice deep within his mind that taunted him with every step, a voice that compelled him to turn himself around in shame. It was difficult to not give into it. There was little light leading through the darkness he had shrouded himself in. He was just a shadow, stretched far from the light.

"Hey!" She called out to him, loud and unapologetic. He was jolted out from his self-processing, truly opening his eyes to take in the sight of the girl bathed in sunlight. It looked good on her, as it always did. With pouted lips and furrowed brows, she inspected his face as if he wasn't even really standing before her, "Are you even awake yet?"

how did I live in a kingdom of thieves ?

The girl looked deep into his eyes, as they acted as a window to his soul. Standing on the tips of her toes in her attempt to even out the difference in their height, she stared unblinkingly, giving him a perfect view of her blue eyes. The sapphire jewels shining through shades of silver and violets, orbs that glowed as perfect as dew drops on iris petals. They were not simple, for she was not a simple girl.

"There you are." She smiled once she recognised the faintest signs of life, even if it was slightest twitch of his eyes as he stared back down at her. It was better than nothing, as he was not a man known for emoting on any scale. She wasn't particularly bothered by that trait of his, she and developed ways of reading him like a book. He was more open to her anyway.

With the autumn sun seeping into her skin, she gave her dress a twirl, the flow-y white fabric floating as she did so. Watching her glide around in the dress had brought the image of white doves to his mind, however at this moment she seemed more elegant, like a swan. No matter what bird she reminded him of, especially in that delicate dress, she would always be angelic in his eyes. A piece of paradise, in the most unlikely place. Caught up with playful minx, as she was the apple of his eye, he had absentmindedly responded to her, "Hmm."

you're only everything I ever dreamed, ever dreamed of, ever dreamed of

"Hmm?" She came to a halt just to give him a disappointed look. While he had agreed that the day so far had been just fine - quiet, warm and sunny - he clearly wasn't enjoying it as much as an ordinary person. He wasn't taking advantage of this rare occasion, where he could actually think to himself and take a breather without being harassed by his own kind. She was certain that he wasn't aware of this unique opportunity to just let himself relax. Spinning around on her heel, her skirt twirling around with her, she leaned closer to him - knowing full well that she already had his audience, he hadn't exactly taken his eyes off her yet. Completely enamoured. And with her smile, that damned smile, she had him obsessed. "Come on, let's not waste it."

She snatched his hand, holding it tight between her own as she pulled him along. She was in a rush, to a destination he did not know. She tugged him along off the beaten path, toward the very edge of Fortuna, where nature was dominant rather than the religious constructs. She charged along at pace he struggled to match with ease, and she had noticed. "Can't keep up?!"

Her laughter made his heart feel light, weightless rather than the void in his chest that it usually was. It reminded him that this very moment was real, that she was real and he was alive. There wasn't a single doubt in his mind, and just for a second, he stopped overthinking things.

Once they had found themselves in the shade of the autumn foliage, she had let him go to run ahead. "Race you there!" She shouted back to him as she ran, barefoot, over the fallen leaves. Soon enough, he would only catch a glimpse of her hair so black, against skin so white, as she weaved between the trees. the contrast of her natural hair only served to make her more an haunting oddity, though one sought as a prize and admired thusly. A pang of panic hit his chest every time he had lost sight of her, but knew better than to actually worry she would disappear. Even so, he chased her through the woods with an eagerness to see where she would take him.

He followed the mixture of gravel and dirt along the narrow path, catching small glimpses of her as she lead the way, until he came upon her staring out over a small brick ledge, overlooking the forest and lake, as well as Fortuna Castle in the distance. Standing on top of an aged, wooden bench, she tried to peer as far as she could into the horizon, just to take in as much as she possibly could. She turned to devil beside her, as he had finally caught up to her, with a smug look.

"Finally! Where have you been?" She laughed at him, jesting as she usually would, before hopping off the bench to wander past him to inspect some flowers that had caught her eye.

you must be kidding me, did you really think I could say no ?

Plucking one of the flowers just she had something to twist between her fingers idly, she moved back over the brick ledge that separated her from the forest below her. The sky was streaked with hues of rose as the sun began to sink, shining a new light over the world. The water of the lake was cast in honeyed tones of gold, glittering over the surface, beautiful and dreamlike. "Isn't it pretty?"

He hesitated to give her any answer, perhaps because it wasn't the view he was focusing on at the moment. In a daze, he drawled out a "Yeah." but did not sound ultimately convincing. She gazed over her shoulder, to scoff at his unflinching at stare that was squared solely on her. "Pfft, not me, the view." She tossed him the flower, a white belladonna lily that most certainly did not belong in these woods. He caught it, and admired it himself, before noticing that the entire area around this lookout had these flowers blooming. It was the perfect frame for the perfect view.

"What are you doing?" He asked as he watched the girl before him jump up onto the bricks that lined the overlook edge. He wasn't sure exactly why he had bothered to ask, he did not expect a reasonable answer from her. "What's it look like?" She amused him, as she carefully treadled over the rough surface of the brickwork, one foot in front of the other, toe to heel. She kept her arms out for balance, especially when she wobbled. Her sense of equilibrium threatened to cave in with every step - though more so when she gazed down from the ledge to the fall below her. Trees would catch her if she fell that way, but it would not be kind to her in anyway.

The devil crossed his arms, not impressed with her constant inane sensibility that he would find himself dealing with no matter where they were. She had the heart of a child - she had never quite realised she had grown up. Even though the battles, strife and bloodshed that had been shared between them, it never dampened her spirit. It was almost admirable, then again, it could have been her stubbornness shining through. "You're going to fall." He felt like a parent scolding their child, but she always found a way of making others worry about her antics.

She smiled, "And you're going to catch me."

She was so confident with her words, as if every single one she breathed was definitive fact. He had scoffed at it, thinking that she was painfully naive, however it was that some naivity that was refreshing. A purity that was rare to encounter, and again, it was found in the oddest of places. The girl was likely to slay a man where he stood, by blade or bullet, as she would to be intrigued by flowers, or birds.

And so he revealed the slightest smile to her, that appeared to be genuinely sweet. The most precious and rarest of sights to grace his face. Something worth the wait. It was the kind of smile - that he would often fight against - that her heart fluttery but more so, it made him just that little bit more human in her eyes.

"I haven't seen that look in a long time." As soon as she drew attention to it, his smile had fallen, returning to his usual scowl-like expression. It only proves that his smiles were no myth, that it was possible to see that man looking like he isn't unimpressed by everything, ever. "Promise me that you'll smile like that again. I still haven't taken a picture of it yet."

He turned away, ignoring her joke, "No promises."

"Why am I not surprised?" She sounded blue. He gazed over to find that she did appear to be somewhat frustrated, with herself, more than him. Running her fingers through her hair, she asked herself out loud, "Why did I pick you?"

She had presented him with a question he wanted answers to himself, "Why did you?"

She paused mid-step, her eyes flickering the drop to her right before returning to her own feet. Something in her mind faltered as she searched for the answer, she was sure she knew it. Why she had picked him, out of anyone in the whole world, to stand beside - why she had been so blind to offer him her heart over those who would have been suitable.

"Who knows..."

It was all she could say. To her, leaving that mystery there was better than what she assumed was the actual answer - that he seemed, ironically, more fun than anyone else. It didn't sound right - he was more entertaining? No, more interesting than the rest? She never really considered if he was would be able to cater to her every need, if he could provide her with everything she'd ever need from him like with a normal relationship. She hadn't even thought of whether he was the emotionally healthy option - would he even make her happy? These things never came to mind, because there was really no need for them to, in her eyes. Though she couldn't describe how exactly, he was enough and more than she ever wanted. Sure, he could be stubborn, selfish and arrogant at times but he was more than the cold, hardened persona he put on. He was the only man she'd ever need and want.

"Maybe it's because I knew, you'd never let me down - never again." She thought out loud, as she wandered back and forth across the brickwork. Occasionally she would stumble as she stepped, and he was more than ready to snatch her from the ledge before she could fall down. However, she never lost balance, but she was quite aware of how he flinched with every falter, and for whatever reason, it made her smile. "And I was right."

"No, you weren't." He snapped back, not willing to accept her kindness because it was so adamantly naive. She wasn't right about him. She wasn't right to be with him, especially after all this time. He was a selfish creature, more demon than man, who had no right to have anyone like her beside him. He was a user, and there were times he had exploited her for his own gain. And yet, she stayed. It was stupid - they were both stupid for trying to keep whatever this was alive. "You should have known better."

Her hands balled into fists at her sides even as she soldier on, trod carefully over the ledge. She tried not to think about it. She tried to ignore that self-deprecating nature of his. She tried, so damned hard. To no avail, she felt her fury bubble in the pit of stomach. Shoulders tense, she tried to keep her thoughts to herself. He thinks he's so goddamn bad, like he's the spawn of Satan himself but he's not. He's the Son of Sparda, and while he wasn't exactly living up to his father's legacy in the best way, it did not make him a monster. Even then, monsters don't deserve to be alone. "Always so, frustrating." She had managed to seethe out through gritted teeth. She released a deep sigh, as her body began to relax again. She no longer saw red, even she was still bothered by him, and gazed his way, "Never change."

And so, she flashed him one last smile before she turned to face him, and let herself go.

"Wait - "

He reached out to her, as she willingly fell backward. Her dress rustled as she descended, her hair in her face and yet, even though she was falling so far down, she still had that smile of hers. Vergil was more than ready to dive down and catch her, to throw himself off this ledge and try and save her. He didn't. He knew better. He knew that she was in no real danger, that she wouldn't even hit the ground. Even as her body slowly dispersed in glittering white lights, the ghost that haunted him fading from his sight, his heart was still in his throat. Soon enough, she was gone again - though she was never really here, with him. Another delusion, a haunting illusion of his former lover. He cursed at himself for being fooled by it again, but she was just so real, just like the lily she had thrown to him, it was real.

The breath of the season filled the air, the autumn breeze carrying the reds, oranges and yellows before letting them fall to the ground. Vergil's hair had been rustled by the cool breeze, and though it bothered him, he made no sudden moves. He could hear it. His name, being called upon within the wind. A whisper, just for him to hear, a haunting chime to give him faith.

"Vergil ... I had no regrets."

Hearing her voice, he gazed up to the sky, embracing the gentle breeze as it was a small comfort to him, one of few over these long, lonely years.

What jpop artists do you like? Lately ive been getting into some like perfume, and sheena ringo or even vintage ones like pink lady or candies. Ive also heard lots of good things about hikada utaru, but aparently she identifies as nonbinary now?! Does it make me petty not to want to listen to her just because of that? Like i expected better of Japan artists but i guess even they can be delulu like american artists...

Yeah, there's been a whole discourse with Hikaru Utada because she suddenly said she didn't want to be described with gendered pronouns such as "Ms." before her name (and instead use Mx. or something like that). It's interesting to note that Hikki is fluent in English, and there was hardly any chance that someone who only speaks Japanese get so nitpicky about pronouns. 'Ms' doesn't really exist in Japanese, and actually Japanese is a pretty non gendered language (even less than English). So it's really interesting how the linguistic influence of the West took a toll of her. This statement was clearly dedicated to her Western audience, the only that would consistently use pronouns to describe her. However, she never stated she wanted to he called "she/they/them" or whatever.

Music wise, I'm not really fond of her music. I really like her 'ULTRA BLUE' album (which is famous for "Passion" which was Kingdom Hearts 2 theme) and some songs here and there though. Hikki is famous for having Jpop most groundbreaking debut at only 16 years old with "Automatic" (this song aged like fine wine tbh) by 1)being one of the biggest selling record in Japan 2)shoving R&B element in her music which was very outstanding at that time. The fact that she wrote at such a young age (and still do) all her lyrics + is fluent in English gave her a very solid 'ace' aura, and die hard fans who still to this day will jump on your throat if you 'dare' criticize their queen lol I remember someone who said that even her most upbeat/positive songs (Keep tryin', COLORS, Traveling…) always had a sad & melancholic era, and I think that's the most accurate description of her music, maybe that's why I have a hard time listening to her albums bc they (beside 'ULTRA BLUE' and 'HEART STATION' which are imo her most lighthearted ones) have this very downer, softdoom vibe~

That being said, it would be ridiculous to not listen to her just bc she has pronouns anon lol It's pretty funny how some people are getting so cranky abt pronouns-having artists and boast about how refuse to entertain anything that they do....but will have issue to keep watching/listening to movies/music of predators, sex pest and convicted rapists lmao

I always got a weird vibe from Sheena Ringo and never got remotely interested in her music. The rumors about she being a closeted Japanese nationalist just bc of her NIPPON album era (where she had her audience wave Japanese imperial flags) are insane though lmao Hopefully those people have the same energy to call out Miley Cyrus for being an American Nationalist for her song "Party in the USA" where she dances before a giant American flag 🤡

I hardly listen to new Japanese artists anymore. I replied to an ask not too long ago where I professed my love for Ayumi Hamasaki (her 10 first year of career were pristine - she really should've retired at her 10 years Complete Singles best album momentum because everything after that has pretty much been trash tbh). Her album LOVEppears is probably my favorite album of all time 🥴

I'll never be over how cute she looks on "Fly High" MV (one of my favorite of her - those platform shoes + micro short + glittery sweatshirt combo will never get old / this MV is 23 years old and that outfit is still KICKIN #legendary)

Also pretty random because that's not a band that I'm checking like that, but THE ORAL CIGARETTES 'UNOFFICIAL' album is an absolute no skip banger. I hardly remember a Jrock album that got me hooked like that those last few years😳

I have so many other Japanese acts that I love it's really insane (I am more savvy of Japanese music that western one).

Soloist wise, I grew up in womanhood listening to Kana Nishino and her music is literally the soundtrack of my early 20s. We were born only a month apart and felt so connected to her and her songs. She truly has a special place in my heart. Her debut & sophomore albums 'LOVE one.' and 'to LOVE' got 20 years old me on a CHOKEHOLD! "Motto" got me crying all my tears off a dusty lmaoooo😭 it's insane how her songs matched with my life - we truly had a connection

Tomiko Van and Kana Nishino are Jpop best vocalists imo ELLEGARDEN (rip) and ART-SCHOOL are my favorite bands of all time. ASIAN KUNG FU GENERATION and UVERworld had a decent run in the 2000s. Perfume is still kicking.....but I don't really catch up with them anymore cause I've been trying to cut out secular music off my playlist

if it's alright, can you tell us more about ship-wreck? (specifically tyde 👀 👀 👀)

i'm not exactly a great character writer nor having my characters set in stone so what i have is more like... ideas i can put into bullet points i have for them? (this took me. way longer to write than i thought it would. it's a bit long so there's a readmore)

Rippe:

he comes off stoic and effortless with a resting kinda mean expression and stylish looks, but he's actually typically rather demure and soft spoken. his songwriting and strong voice is where he finds his outlet, very vulnerable, introspective, and loaded with feeling.

A big part of him coming out of his shell is Tyde - Tyde hypes him up, and often gets him to take himself less seriously to bring out his potential for quick witted ribbing and playful teasing. (Tyde lights up the room to him, and when he gets caught up in his head that the world has good in it. and he's plenty handsome...)

his voice would be kinda lighter and with some husk and growl and capable of some more screaming vocals. influences for his musical style is parts nu metal and alt rock like Linkin Park, deftones, and ONE OK ROCK - but also the experimental range for non-conventional artistic pop like Utada Hikaru with influences of R&B, soul, and jazz

he can play guitar and piano

Tyde:

definitely more outwardly playful and confident - he's clever, and can play both the fool and the quick witted straight man on the fly for the bit. he's observant of the world around him in both it's light and darker shades, and likes his music to connect with people about both the happier or rougher times.

He's a bleeding heart for others, and an extrovert who basically adopted Rippe as his introvert during their college days back when Rippe almost entirely kept to himself. (also he thinks Rippe is cute and is enamoured when Rippe pours his heart out into things)

influences for his voice would probably be the vocalist of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION that's deep and heartfelt, and his style similarly influenced would be j-rock, alt rock, and rap-rock. he's plenty capable of rolling with Rippe's experimental flow for different genres with grace however (something that never fails to fluster Rippe whenever he starts using a smoother side to his vocals for it)

he can play bass, violin, and piano

(if it's not clear already Rippe and Tyde are down bad for eachother if not already lovers)

Madame: (admittedly my hardest to define in ways?)

she's punk, she's kinda femme fatale, she's unapolgetic and can crush you under her figurative heel. it's hard to describe her sound - she's the instrumentation arrangement master who's ready to use anything at her disposal both conventional or experimental to make sure her music gives the rawest of feeling

she's been Rippe's friend since like middle/highschool days, likely bonding over being the punk/goth kids. and given Rippe's demure nature and her steel will, she's often been the one to keep those who'd bully and take advantage of him off his back - she has a soft spot for the small-fry in general. In college she kept a stern watchful eye over making sure Tyde was gonna treat her Rippy right, but with enough time recognized Tyde was really making Rippe happy and giving him a voice. Tyde's her funny lil guy now too~

her voice is deep, husky, and dulcet - she's typically a backing vocal, but her voice absolutely has an aura to it. her music style influences are hard to pinpoint - dark-pop, experimental pop, hyperpop, avant pop, alt-rock and nu-metal, R&B, soul, classical, electronic - punk in the essence of doing whatever it takes to get the raw meaning and feeling across. she'll go as loud or as gentle as necessary

she's a one woman instrumentalist band, capable of drums, guitar, bass, piano, synths, and cello
