cannot believe that some people think that barb was straight and did not have a crush on nancy. did we both watch the same scene of “yellow ribbon” playing between them in the car. a song about someone who isn’t sure if their love is requited/is afraid of being rejected and is too afraid to look/see for themselves if it so they ask somebody else to? aka being afraid of rejection especially being queer?? also having thoughts about how yellow ribbons have been used as a symbol for suicide awareness AND as the original symbol of the aids crisis before the red ribbon was used in 1991 + how there’s definite ties to vecna preying on suicidal people but also a narrative tie to vecna and peoples’ disappearances as a representation of suicide when the supernatural elements are removed from the story.

and how barb felt rejected that night (just like the song, she was afraid of rejection) and how its only the first half of the song that we hear, NOT the half that talks about how the singer ISNT rejected. because barb IS rejected. and the last line of the song (which we don’t hear in the show) is “i’m coming home” + the singer is ONLY coming home BECAUSE his love is requited, otherwise he says that he’d stay on the bus and not go home-> nancy tells barb to go home but she never does, because she dies. just like how we never hear that “i’m coming home” lyric of the song because barb is rejected and therefore, like what the singer said, she’s not going home. (going home = not rejected) this also has implications for byler! in s2, mike tells will that he’s going to take him home, and he DOES, but he takes him to HIS house. will DOES make it ‘home’ in that scene, unlike barb, but he also technically makes it home during his disappearance, even though he vanishes after (and even if the whole house was a vecna vision and not the real house, visually, there’s still showing him going home). and so if going home = not rejected/requited love, then byler is requited. barb didn’t make it home, despite nancy telling her to go home. barb died in the upside-down. barb’s love was unrequited. will made it home. will did not die in the upside-down. will’s love is requited. like barb absolutely had feelings for nancy (and imo is definitely a lesbian) and yet i see so many people esp on twt denying it and saying that she’s just straight and jealous of nancy being with steve and that barb was in the wrong. when will the ga realize that queerness has been rooted in this show since the beginning and isn’t just something they can ignore when it suits them??

People on loatwt are actually crazy some are very nice, funny and motivational, but there's majority who make me wanna punch a wall🙃

Music only manifests when you want it to, sometimes people seem to forget about the "what YOU WANT," part of manifesting, whatever you want is yours, whatever you feel is yours is yours, this whole "sad music manifests" bs is ridiculous, it's like on Hera's blog an anon explained how you can use music to your advantage, visualization as an example, imagining what you want as you feel and bask in the wish fulfilled and go about that feeling and keep that thought process.

If you assume sad shit manifests then it will. Some people on there are actually ridiculous I want to scream at them but I know that there's most likely no changing their mind, they're all ignorant in the same stubborn way(the BAD ones)🙃.

The good ones though are very good and extremely motivating.

exactly. like you CAN use music to manifest, but if you're just listening to a song you love and singing along to the lyrics, that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to manifest. for instance, there's this phoebe bridgers song where she goes "you said when you met me you were bored, and you were in a band when i was born" and i loveee screaming those lines with her, but i also don't relate to them at all. and they have not manifested into my reality lol. like i know that im singing along to her and she's singing about her own experiences, not mine.

i've also listened to break up songs while in a relationship and not accidentally manifested a break up. so have sooo many other people who don't know about the law. like, i swearrr your subconscious mind is smart enough to know the difference between you listening to a song and your actual thoughts. if it wasn't, then the books you read would manifest too.

the sad music manifests thing is rlly giving law of attraction raise your vibrations bs lowkey. and all this limiting belief is really doing is scaring people, not helping them. it's truly crazy to me that there's so many people on twt trying to teach the law when they hardly know anything about it besides affirming. like they genuinely think sad lyrics are affirmations like ???

Let’s talk: the Vmin “no on screen interaction = no bond” Paradox

by Admin 1 & 2

One of the reasons that are usually stated for why people are so insistent on their claims that Jimin and Tae supposedly aren’t close anymore, that their friendship is nothing but PR for Friends, and that the whole “soulmate agenda” is fake as well, boils down to the statement of “we rarely or never see them interact on screen, no touching, no talking, nothing”. We find this both misleading, since it isn’t true, but also disrespectful, since it means that the only way in which some are able to accept closeness between the members as real and valid is if they see it, nothing else. So, just because you don’t see it through grand physical touches, hugs and whatnot, does that mean if they speak about each other, for example, that doesn’t count?

You could argue that the power of pictures is greater than that of words, but to that I would like to ask: do they owe us visual proof of their closeness when we already have so much that shows how truly close Jimin and Tae are, how much they care about each other and how much work across years they’ve willingly and eagerly put into their bond for it to grow as deep and beautiful as it is?

As a way to showcase how misleading the screen time = friendship/closeness argument is, especially in connection to Jimin and Tae, I’d like for us to look at two different instances: Black Swan MV (the MV Sketch as well as the “opera” b*omb and the basket ball b*omb) and the Jingle Ball 2019 EPISODE.

Let’s start with the videos surrounding Black Swan below the cut:

Around that time I saw a lot, and I mean a lot, of chatter (mostly negative) about vmin since a very loud portion of the fandom were very up in arms after we got Friends. Not only did it solidify their preconceived notion that they are just friends, because the song is titled like that and none of them really cared enough to check the lyrics, but also because it opened up a whole new discussion about “but like, are they really friends?” To which, of course, their answer was mostly “no”. It’s just PR, they actually don’t really like each other, they barely interact, we see nothing of them, both interact way more with the other members, you know the drill. So when the MV Sketch for Black Swan came out it was, once again, like more “am/munition” for their arguments.

The thing we find laughable though is this expectation of “ship moments” in a video that’s literally about the filming of their music video, most of the scenes showing said filming happening though there’s also a few scenes of the members interacting. But, at the core, this isn’t like a bangtan b*mb of them hanging out backstage waiting for something or another where it makes sense that we’d see them interact a lot and be silly, instead it’s a video in which their focus (as well as ours should be) is on filming and giving the best performance they can so the MV turns out amazing, which it did. They are doing their work, not enjoying their free time. When you’re at work, do you really spend the majority of your time playing around with your friends? No, you do your job, the thing you get paid for doing.

The first few times I watched the video, I was so captivated by the theatre and their dancing, their mindset and performance, I didn’t even really notice any of their interactions or pay attention to who interacted with who or who did not. Guess my priorities and expectations are simply a bit different when watching a music video being filmed...

So what was the conclusion people drew? While Jimin and Tae are both close to JK and the other member, they are not close to each other, they don’t even particularly like each other. It was a narrative I saw repeated across various sns and, really, while it made me sad, I also wasn’t surprised. It’s nothing new that people treat vmin in such a manner.

Then, months later we got two Bangtan B*mbs from the same time and surprise, surprise Jimin and Tae did interact, a lot even, in ways that show how attuned with each other they are, how easy it is for them to fall into one of their role-plays or just be silly together, how gentle and thoughtful of the other they are, and how much they enjoy doing something together, regardless of what it is.

The first, posted October 1st 2020, showed Tae playing basket ball while Jimin and JK sat off to the side and watched him. Like you can see in the above pictures, eventually Jimin joined Tae and they played together for most of the video. Since the sun was shining at them, Tae stood before Jimin and raised his hands so the shadow fell onto Jimin’s eyes and he could see better, later on doing the same for Tae. It’s a small thing and yet it shows they care about each other. At some point Jimin pretended that he’ll be leaving, twice, and yet he stayed and they played some more. Toward the end of the video Namjoon joins them and eventually vmin leave and Namjoon stays behind and plays with Seokjin before the video ends.

Based on all that you’d assume the people who, seven months earlier, claimed vmin are essentially estranged and barely even like each other would reconsider, but of course not. Despite the focus being largely on them across the entire video, many comments by non-vminies (and non-namjinists) I saw on sns were about Tae playing on his own, Jimin and JK sitting off to the side together, and Namjoon playing with Seokjin.

The second video was posted October 24th 2020 and began with Jimin pretending he’s an opera singer, which Tae noticed and immediately joined in, since we know this is the sort of thing Tae enjoys doing, even occasionally turning their own songs and lyrics into opera style to make the other members laugh. This sets off this entire sequence of Tae and Jimin singing different things, JK also joining in for a moment, and then vmin ending on that sweet moment of Jimin standing behind Tae with his hands covering Tae’s eyes before concluding that “it’s hard to play with him”. And yet, even if it’s hard, can we talk about these two screenshots of Jimin fondly watching Tae and looking like he can’t wait until his stylist is done so he can go join him? Adorable.

But again, even here while the focus is on vmin for a large portion of the video, this fact was largely omitted and instead people zeroed in on moments in which Tae was alone, Tae or Jimin interacted with JK, and Tae singing with Namjoon and Seokjin. It seems to me like the council of “how valid is a friendship” decided on their opinion months prior and stuck with it even if it meant, as always, to just ignore vmin interactions in favor of other things while at the same time spreading the “vmin are not friends because they don’t interact” agenda to anyone who’ll listen.

Generally I don’t really care all that much for all the chatter happening among parts of ARMY, but seeing these comments belittling and erasing the bond Jimin and Tae have, regardless if you see it as platonic or potentially romantic, is just really hard to read sometimes. Not even because I’m a vminnie, but simply because they are erasing something that is so important to both Tae and Jimin, this bond they have with each other they themselves spoke so much about, showed so much of, and yet people refuse to accept it, like they have any right to make such judgements about their bond.

The second example I’d like to show is Jingle Ball 2019 in LA and how deceptive, paradoxical and misleading the no screen time = no bond agenda really is.

For context, the Jingle Ball happened some time in December 2019, the same month as when we got the vmin “let’s take a half bath together” while holding hands during Seokjin’s birthday vlive happened, meaning a time when Jimin and Tae were just as close as ever, even occasionally giving us glimpses into their bond, giggling together and being all smiles. Also the same month as the famous holding hands because we think no one sees us anymore moment at the airport.

On July 22nd 2020 we got the EPISODE showing the behind the scenes of the Jingle Ball performance. It’s 11 minutes long and includes the BWL performance with Halsey, but largely shows the members getting ready, practicing their English and being excited to perform. If we focus solely on vmin then sure, I’ll agree that there were no interactions between those two whatsoever, not a usual or out of the ordinary thing, and not something I see any kind of problem in. They don’t owe us interactions in every piece of content. And yet, as always, it just added fuel to everyones favorite agenda that vmin are not close, ignoring all the prior time frame context we established previously. But who cares, they didn’t interact in this 11 minute video therefore they definitely didn’t interact at all and now hate each other.

Jokes on those people because of course that isn’t true.

Excuse the rather mediocre quality of those pictures, I tried my best with the screenshots taken from a video taken by a fan (one of many) who got to see BTS behind the scenes before going on stage from the stands further up. There’s this video on twt that shows just vmin and then I found a longer version in this person’s vlog (around the 7:25 min mark and onward). You can check both and confirm that it really is vmin in those screenshots. Also, as memory refresher, Jimin was the only one with a black collar and shirt along with blond hair. Namjoon stands further away and can be seen in the three lower pictures.

So, what does this tell us? Easy--just because it wasn’t shown in a condensed and edited video it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Just because Jimin and Tae don’t show us things on screen, or the editors don’t use scenes where it can be seen, it doesn’t mean that it’s an accurate representation of their actual, real life bond. They weren’t in the EPISODE but hugged and walked together off camera.

Notice how this agenda merely applies to vmin, how their bond, their soulmate status and closeness is the only one that gets questioned at every possible moment. When Seokjin said that Yoongi feels like his soulmate nowadays in an episode of In The SOOP no one questioned his words and accepted them as true, because he said so himself and we should believe their sincerity when they say these things. And yet when it comes to vmin, the rules are entirely different.

what if this bubble reflects reni's old dream of putting on a god-like performance? considering how bubbles pop after a certain amount of time and how it reflects the person before it pops, the fall and eventual pop of the bubble is a symbolism of reni's dream being "more real"? considering how yukio won't act ever again, the bubble popping means that reni is awoken from his dream (since he's the only one of the first gen who had the bubble, and how the first gen has the theme of "nothing lasts forever," unlike the newborn gen's "nothing lasts forever, but...")

as for act 12... this is my theory. so, amadate sr. is very sus and he seems to have a grudge against hakkaku for not writing a script for his troupe. what if he sends out an offer for sakuya to join hyakka before he destroys mankai with more rumours (because he probably spread the rumours around banri in act 11). i don't know how they'll insert saku(ya)'s past since it's getting referenced a lot, BUT I JUST FEEL LIKE THEY'LL INSERT IT SOMEHOW (i crave sakuya lore and development). however, i think harugumi wouldn't try to influence his decision of joining hyakka (bc they're not aware of amadate sr.'s actual intent, but maybe aoshi and kabuto will), but they'll instead remind him that he'll always have a place to go home to (reference to: episode 23 of act 1 - a place that can't be taken away).

Woodz real name is cho seungyoun, and he was part of the group x1. he also is in the group uniq, who havent disbanded but havent been active. hes 24 years old, and he raps, sings, dances AND PRODUCES. (talk about an all rounder!!!!!!!!!!!) his music is incredibly versatile and he plays around with lots of different sounds and styles, he is in my own personal opinion, one of the most talented individuals in the music industry.

i agree!! i feel like we know hobi really well but he’s really only shown us a small part of himself to us! it always feels special when he shares facts about himself or his emotions with us! i feel like while he’s super private he’s still really genuine and authentic with us which makes up for it!

SOPHIE BREAKS OUT IN TEARS ON HER FIRST SHOWCASE FOR HER NEW ALBUM ’ MOONLIGHT ’ + HOLDS A SPECIAL V-LIVE WITH HER PARENTS AND BOYFRIEND

On December 8th, Sophie was holding a showcase to introduce her second mini album ’ Moonlight ’. Many of her idol friends attended the event and special guests that day were the soloist’s parents, who, according to insiders, got invited to the showcase by Sophie’s boyfriend Sehun. The surprise visit of the couple caught the young idol off guard and made her cry on stage before she hugged her family close. After the showcase the family plus Sehun gathered to have a small chat on the V-Live app where the visual couple once again showed off their great chemistry as well as how close the male and his girlfriend’s parents are.

Sophie’s showcase started with the female idol welcoming the people who attended the showcase and thanking them for taking their time to watch her perform. Explaining the concept of the album, which revolves around the feeling of being in love with someone, she added that two of the album’s songs, the title track ’ Crazy In Love ’ and ’ Thinking About Us ( Your Eyes ) ’, were co-written by her. The latter was written by the female soloist herself and her boyfriend, One Shot’s drummer Sehun and is therefore a very personal and emotional song. The album’s production did none other than Rien from the band Hydrae, who is known as a skilled artist and producer and a close friend of the younger female.

Right after Sophie performed the intro song, ’ Sinful Apple ’, together with the leader and main rapper Kuno from Mount Record’s boy band UNPLUGGED, Sehun entered the stage together with Sophie’s parents. The elderly couple flew all the way from New York to Seoul to support their daughter on her newest work, which resulted in the female idol crying tears of happiness on stage after spotting them. Sophie’s personal make up artist and friend, Jinri, who also worked with Sophie for her first solo ’ 25 ’, was the first on stage to comfort Sophie before she made room for the celebrity to hug and welcome her parents to South Korea and especially her showcase.

Memorable guests on the showcase were the artists who performed together with Sophie, like UNPLUGGED’s Kuno ( TWT: @KUNOTWT ) and X: RAY’s Maze ( @fyeah-maze ), as well as soloist U-Sik ( @fy-usik ) from Mount Records, but also idols from other labels as L:OVELESS Mina ( @91mna ) and Sophie’s close friend and soloist Bang Chaeyeong ( @bachye ) and Amaterasu ( TWT: @HimuraRasu ) for hosting the showcase. Aside from those, many friends of the female soloist showed up to support her, on the list being famous idols like SHINEE’s Key ( TWT: @kkeybums ), soloist BoA ( @oneqonec ), GOT7′s JB ( TWT: @defjeff_kr ), soloist Cola ( @dyetcola ) from other companies, as well as Sophie’s fellow labelmates, LUNE’s Luca ( TWT: @aIfheim_ ), KAMELLE’S Ahyeon ( TWT: @95YEON ), Siyeon from the idol group TRICKSTER ( @siiveon ) and Sophie’s fellow Mellow member June . Sophie was also spotted with her friends Nabi ( TWT: @nabimuyong ), FAIRYSKIN’s CEO Altair ( TWT: @V0EUX ), MBC News intern Bae Jiyeon ( TWT: @jinalssi ), model Christine Grace Vance ( @chrvstn ) as well as Spencer Cho ( TWT: @iamsori_ ) and a dance instructore called Jaxon ( TWT: @cvrnation ) who is a good friend of the female.. Sophie’s boyfriend Sehun ( @sehunxbt ) and her personal make up artist Jinri ( TWT: @jiinkiez ) were also supporting the woman on her solo showcase.

After perfoming the artist held a cute V-Live together with her boyfriend and parents, replying to questions regarding her solo, relationship, Sehun’s schedules and also her family. The couple impressed the viewers with their great chemistry and many cute moments, as well as how comfortable Sophie’s parents seemed around the pair.

“ ’ Moonlight ’ is, unlike my last solo work, not really a message but rather an album with a description. We tried to describe and put the emotions you feel when you’re in love into words and deliver them to the listener. That’s why the songs differ a lot from each other: Because love, or the feeling of falling in love with someone, isn’t something you can describe easily and in one way, if you can describe it in the first place, that is. Love has different faces and includes a various set of feelings which you sometimes can’t explain or put into words. While the songs all have the same core, the same topic, ’ love ’, in the end they all are different from each other and in the feeling they portray.

You can say that the first three songs of the album are about the adventurous and wild side of love. It’s the side that wants you to try out new things and get the kick and boost of adrenaline from these new experiences. They’re about intimacy and wanting more of each other, including the dangerous parts of love and how easily the ’ want ‘can turn into a ’ need ’, something you can’t live without.

’ Sinful Apple ’ is a cute song with innuendos and a hidden, suggestive meaning. Just like Eve couldn’t withstand the temptation to take a bite from the apple in paradise, the song is about wanting to give in to the temptation and lust that comes with love and cross ’ the forbidden lines ’, but in a rather playful way and because of curiosity.

’ Crazy In Love ’ is a song about falling in love with someone. I co-wrote it and I think it’s a great and catchy work that describes very well how you feel during the process of falling for someone. When you fall, all you can think of is the person you have your eyes on and that’s a good thing, but there’s also the danger of falling too deeply into the person. When I first wrote the song I didn’t think of the hidden message behind the lyrics, I didn’t think of it as something ’ extreme ’ but the more I thought about it, the more I was reminded of how dangerous love can be. Love can consume and blind you, leaving your mind blank and focus only on the person you like. It’s when the ’ I want you ’ turns into an ’ I need you ’ that love becomes dangerous because you’re letting a person influence your life to a point where you can’t handle a life without the person you fell for. I think this rather dark view of the song makes it so interesting and I’m very happy that I was able to put it down in the MV, because love is something very powerful that can destroy not only yourself, but the person you love as well if it gets put of control.

’ Magic ’ is going into the same direction, you could say it’s a continuation of the title track. It’s about needing the person you love and how you seek to receive their love in exchange for yours. When you’re loving someone there’s nothing more you want than your feelings to be reciprocated and that the person you have your eyes on will accept you and your feelings towards them. The lyrics hint that there’s a ’ Magic spell ’ that makes it impossible to ’ escape ’, meaning to see someone else and accept someone else’s love.

Meanwhile the other tracks cover the cute and gentle side of love, for example the anticipation of confessions and the excitement that comes with being close to each other in ’ Tell Me ’. The lyrics are about wanting things to change this night, to go from being friends to something more. The calm and composed melody matches the lyrics well, closely and slowly to not ruin the moment the person in the song is throwing hints on how things are going to change once the important question, ’ Who is it now? ’ is asked.

’ Always For You ’ is a song with a gentle R&B vibe. This song’s lyrics include a small story. It begins with the wish for something more, waiting for the other ” to make a move “ before the time switches and they’re taking care and thinking of each other a lot, things that hint an ongoing relationship. In the end there’s a point where the lyrics go ” You are my baby “, which only confirms the relationship part or at least suggests that those two are on the same page when it comes to their relationship. All in all its a very soft song that shows the side of love where you want to always be there for the person you love.

’ Moondance ’ is basically describing the change from being infatuated to being in love. It’s when everything you do comes naturally and you don’t even realize that you adjusted your steps to align your steps with the steps of your loved one. Full of metaphors, the lyrics indicate that two people came together like two puzzle pieces that fit, making the relationship something special with how well they match during the time of a relationship where you are still a little cautious but also trying to open up to let the person read you like an open book.

I don’t think I have to explain ’ Thinking About Us ’ since it’s a song with lyrics that are my and Sehun’s honest feelings, I just want to mention that it’s our first track we worked on together. Because we relate to the lyrics, it’s a very personal song.

The outro of ’ Moonlight ’ is one of my favorite songs in this album, not because of its lyrics and the cute meaning behind them but because it’s like a call in the morning, after you spent the night without the person you love. It was fun to pretend I’m calling someone, even making a kissing sound ! “

Hi! I know it’s been a few days, but as a kpop stan for 5+ years, and a fan of the group involved in the Cup/cak//ke-situation, I have something to say. Hopefully, I can shed some light on what happened as well as kpop, sexuaization, and the fandom as a whole.

(I wish I could insert a Read More, because this is long).

I’m going to start by saying, I have no idea why this whole Jung.k00k & Cup/cake thing blew up. This is not the first time Cup/cake made sexual comments about the B//TS members, and for the most part stan twitter found her funny. If fans didn’t, they didn’t make a big deal out of it, unlike what happened a few days ago. I’m not on twt, so I can’t say exactly what happened and why, but I’m going to guess it was a mix of Jung.k00k being the youngest member (A 97er, so the same age as Cup/cake), a fan-favorite, and maybe a callout twt post about how people need to stop sexualizing the BT//S members that people bandwagoned on and used to justify dogpiling Cup//cake. That’s usually how shit like this happens, and while unfortunate, it’s far from uncommon.

(Personally, I don’t care about what Cup/cake said and she should not have been bullied for it, but I think there’s a major difference between someone with a platform and tons of fans saying something, and someone posting their M-rated fanfic on AO3.

For instance, just about a month ago there was a Korean rapper, SanE, who gestured at a female idol, Re//d Velv/et’s Iren3 while singing a sexually suggestive lyric. Everyone called him out for sexual harassment and on twt people were even calling him a rapist & pedophile – even though Irene is 26. However, unlike in the Jung.k00k situation, no one made mention to the R-rated fanfics, tweets, tweets and gifs that fans, both male and female, often make about Iren//e and her group members, as a means to call fans hypocrties.

Again, even though I didn’t think either situation was a big deal, I don’t think people have to be comfortable with what Cup/cake or SanE did. I did notice a difference in reactions to reactions, which I think is unfair. Anyways, it sucks that this situation happens, that Cup////cake was hurt and bullied because of this.)

The kp//op fandom has a strange relationship with purity culture. I make mention of this because I feel like it has a hand in why Cup/cake-gate even happened. It’s k///pop fans digesting skewed Korean fan-culture norms and combining it with the overall advent of purity culture in western fandoms. For instance, this week, right after Cup/cake-gate Jung.k00k, was being called a sexual-harrasser and rapist simply because people thought he was staring at a woman’s chest. I’m not even joking. You can read about what happened here and here – but long story short a fan cropped a gif so it looked like he was oogling this lady, and Korean antis caught hold of it and ran with it. And thus, Stare-gate.

And again, this isn’t the first time. Usually it’s on a smaller scale, such as Stare-gate, but a few years ago, k//pop went through Lolita-Gate. Like most witch-hunts, it started out with good intentions: a girl group was going to debut and people were raising concerns that the members (half of which were under 18, the international age of majority, and most of which were under 19, the Korean age of majority) were being oversexualized. And then these three commercials (Warning: The first two are SFW-ish, the last is definitely NSFW), all of which starred the then 16 y/o T///zuyu (the youngest of her group) dropped and shit blew up. People began having an actual conversation about the sexualization of minors, but being that the group T///zuyu was in, T//wice, was already experiencing a lot of backlash for unrelated things, fans felt like the group itself was being attacked (And it some cases it was) and the conversation steered from constructive criticism to fanwars real quick. People began pulling in other groups, not because they had actual concerns, but because they didn’t want their faves to be the only ones being talked about.

And then a former idol dropped pics that people felt sexualized minors. Even though she herself was an adult and had spent her entire childhood being the target of sexual comments, the conversation went from “These are disturbing trends in this industry” to “These people (who often were actually put in situations of being sexualized minors) are the problem”. The nail was put in the coffin when singer-songwriter I//U dropped an album where among the themes of loneliness and misunderstanding, and a certain mature, she talked about the childishly-sexual image that was her company sold her with.

(For the record, Korean idols/artists do not have the same level of autonomy as American idols/artists, and when I///U blew up she was pushed with this “little sister” type image.)

And somehow talking about this and satirizing it, made her a pedophile. While she eventually apologized, her image, as well as the image of several other people who got swept up into the issue, took a dent.

There are tons of times where stuff like this happened, some as trivial as a twenty-seven year old woman being babied, to as damaging as a teenager being called a rapist for accidentally brushed against a minor’s chest.

So this reaction to anything sexual or perceived sexual is not uncommon unfortunately. A good portion of K////pop sells itself on being sexually non-sexual, which is why these things happen all the time. Idols who dance sexually also advertise dating bans and sexual naiveté. Idols who promote innocence do so in a way that can be sexually construed. And this isn’t me trying to fear-monger and trash k///pop (I hate when people do that) but I’m just trying to succinctly describe what I’ve noticed in all my years as a hard-core stan.

Something else I’ve noticed is that, these things tend to blow up as a reaction to male (hetero)sexuality. Lolita-gate happened because people felt that these young females were being infantilized and sexualized in order to accrue and appease an older-male stanbase, however there was not a similar reaction on the flip side of the coin in regards to young males being infantilized and sexualized in order to accrue and appease an older-female stanbase. Both do happen, but I feel like when it does it’s not approached with nuance, so the issue gets lost in the talk.

Again, an example: the commercial I posted earlier with the 16 y/o gyrating in the elevator. Completely inappropriate, right? Yes. However, just recently there’s a group where a 16 y/o is singing about something innocent enough, but the breathy moans on the chorus coupled with the oral fixation throughout the video, does give it a sexual flair. And then she began promoting another song with two other girls, that is again more sensual, yet I’ve yet to hear any real backlash. Granted, they aren’t anywhere near as popular as T///wice, but they are a well-known fan-favorite. And their fanbase, especially among western stans, is mostly female. As opposed to T///wice, who early on, gained a reputation of having lots of (older) male fans.

(And even as a fan of this group L//00N//A, I can’t even mention it without being dog-piled as trying to start shit)

Or, like I mentioned earlier, I//rene. She’s very popular among guys, and sometimes gifs of her wardrobe malfunctions circulate the Korean interwebs, and that leads to a lot of nsfw discussion regarding her body. She also has a lot of female fans who do and say the same things (especially her western stans), but the anger is 100% directed at the male fans because how dare they.

Anyhow, because I dumped a lot on you that you probably do not care to read, and this was more a response to the asks I saw you had on Cupcak//e-gate – It’s complicated. The reaction that you see towards one situation is often times not the same reaction you’ll get in another, usually because fandom politics takes precedence over the actual issue.

And don’t even get me started on slut-shaming in this fandom, which either comes from outright misogynists, or misogynists pretending to be feminists.

Oh, and yes, shipping is something often encouraged by companies. I can’t think of any group that’s debuted that hasn’t had some sort of company-pushed ship. The fanservice and bromance has definitely died down since the earlier days when the likes of TV//XQ and SU//JU had members kissing on stage and the like. A lot of it is borrowed from j///pop idol & visual-kei culture.

shotaro really lived the nctzen dream. went from idolizing to dancing along side and being in the group itself 😣 he deserves his spot though, he’s a really really good dancer. tho i wonder which unit he’ll belong to now.

why do ice cream songs (talking abt bp and txt’s, ice cream cake by rv on the other hand is ok with me) have these weird lines mixed in that just ???? me. i have A LOT to catch up on on the groups that i stan. the ones we have similar besides nct and skz are enha and svt :3 enha only in the recent cb and svt since i started getting back into kpop in 2019. (lmao now we have more groups to talk about 🤣)

i used to be a gods menu hater (please don't come for me stays) but I watched it so many times solely because of the visuals and choreography that I ended up liking the song. gods menu was what dived me into kpop dubstep, or whatever that genre is lmao. you have a point about drowning out thoughts though, that may be one of the main reasons why i prefer noise music at certain times of the day.

haha wayv are crackheads and Ive barely delved into them, and yes, them as princesses are...queens (baa dum ss). as for cpop, i probably got into it with ease because I'm chinese and I've been listening to chinese music since i came out of the womb lmao. i didn't fully immerse myself into the fandom till last year though.

yeah i would consider shotaro one of the best 4th gen dancers along with yeonjun, ni-ki, and hyunjin / minho. to think that hes just debuted...ah. imagine shotaro in nct hollywood though pls.

lmao i didnt think of ice cream titled songs and their correlation till you pointed it out, but yeah omg. their lyrics do be iffy though. maybe its because of the sexual (?) connotation with ice cream. on the other hand, i love ice cream cake the food and the song.

yay! an engene! not going to lie, ive temporarily abandoned my ult groups to get into nct. im still streaming my favs' songs and mvs but i havent watched any of their variety shows because thats what i usually do when i get into new groups *sobs* its a bad habit. thats what i did when i got into seventeen too (beginning of this year), but it only lasted for a month at most.

i like the back-and-forth asks haha! i wonder if other people read them too. i love talking to you though, its so nice to meet someone who understands my social antics, and it gives me something to look forward to when i open tumblr!

i always find jaehyun, taeyong, and jaemin edits to be really pretty. maybe its because theyre conventionally (?) attractive and more people bias them, or maybe thats what ive been seeing most on my dash. shotaro edits are usually adorable and johnnys are hot lmao.

omg chan! he was my bias and what got me into skz before i jumped ship to vracha and eventually seungmin. jeongin and hyunjin also have my heart but i literally had seungmin tunnel vision for a quarter of the year lmao, i would only read seungmin fics.
