Hii! This chapter was absolutely beautifully written, especially Arthur's part. I genuinely had to go lie down after finishing the chapter 😭😭 First Gwen, now Arthur?? I am not ok 😭

My theory is that Lance and Kincaid will become parabatai and that Arthur will somehow come back, even if it's just for a short amount of time (yes I am in denial about his death ahah 😌). You said that Other Max knew about Arthur's powers. BUT Arthur never told anyone about his powers, not even his parents. Soooo other Max had to find out somehow...👀👀👀 so I have hope that Arthur makes a comeback (unless it was Lucifer that told other max or something). I'm curious about Lucifer's motivation for killing Arthur tho. I feel like there is more to it than to just push Lance over the edge.

I am also scared of Max's trial with the warlock council. It just seems sort of inevitable at this point. It's really just a matter of time until Hermes catches him, he got real close last time. And if something happens to Max...then that's just one more person that Lance lost. 😭😭

Anyway, this chapter was absolutely brilliant. You're an amazing writer <3

Thank you so much! Arthur's part was extremely difficult to write because it was a nucleus scene (one of the first scenes I came up with so lots of pressure hehe).

Kincaid and Lance parabatai theory is a favourite of mine. It scares me though because they don;t exactly like each other and we know parabatai need to like each other (a lot!!).

Other Max did indeed know about Arthur's powers because Arthur told him/them in their timeline. More on this later. All the secret keeping only happened in the current timeline.

As for your theory about Lucifer's true motivation...not bad, Annie, not bad. Of course the primary motivation (is assumed) that Lucifer now wants Lance to destroy Idris. But if you remember the Azazel chapter, Lucifer already said he doesn't care about Idris...So...

As for Max's trial with the Warlock Council (love that you are still worried about this amidst all the chaos), you'll get an update in the next chapter!

┊ ➶ ｡˚ ° yesss, let's go with the puuuun lmao. The big reason why I wanted to make this crossover ahah;;; I swear this was a difficult one. "Once you know a Link, you've known them all '' and that couldn't be truer while I was giving them the arcana— anyways, I managed to play and fit it!

┊・❥ Time - The Hermit

Symbolizes wisdom, introspection, solitude, retreat and philosophical searches.

Gameplay-wise they deal with mental-ailments and are hermit figures...

Story-wise, I was debating whether to put Hermit or Hierophant but in the end I chose the former!

Both plays the "wise mentor" however the Hierophant leans more on a religious figure which I suppose Time tries to stay out of for reasons.

So, Hermit Arcana! Time spent his life "hidden" voluntarily and involuntarily.

Was hidden in the forest, was hidden in a sacred realm, his adventure became a story in the adult timeline and forgotten in the child timeline— that's probably a few of it!

┊・❥ Twilight - The Moon

There's a lot to unpack but in short it represent being attuned subconsciously to the world and gaining the ability to sense things

Kinda like psych which works with Twilight becoming a wolf

Was thinking if to give this or not since story-wise of persona this arcana tends to project their fears or faults on others, which mainly the protagonist.

Gameplay-wise this arcana excels in physical abilities with average magic which fits Twilight!

But I could see some way this would work with all the shadow and other world stuff going on.

I feel like because of his experience with shadows he is more sensitive to the Reader who is in contact with them too.

And due to his supportive side he tends to look out more to the reader. Like, uh, platonically explained? He is a protective big bro!

┊・❥ Warrior - The Chariot

Symbol of victory, conquest, self-assertion, self-confidence, control, war and command.

It's fitting just on-point for Warrior.

Gameplay-wise they excels in physical attacks and figures of warriors.

They also have special physical skills! Which Idk how to implement since all Link have it. I think Warrior gives special effects like how in-game of HW the weapons have elemental skills.

Edit: I remembered that skill which instant-kill the enemy. With Warrior who's game is more hack&slash.

Story-wise figures also tend to hide their doubts and weaknesses. This is Warrior we talkin' about. He hides them with smug, flirts and jokes. That mistake of power getting through his head was a scar on his back. Ouch.

Please give him a pat on the shoulder to reassure him ó_ò)

I'd also like to imagine Warrior being the one to teach the Reader about fighting instead of just being Time ^^) he trained with the knights so he does have the experience in teaching and sparring!

┊・❥ Wild - The Hanged Man

OH BOI HERE WE GO— MY FAVOURITE—

Symbolize self-sacrifice for the sake of enlightenment and paradoxes that hangs between sky and earth and also renewal.

Gameplay-wise they excels in survivability!

I guess he could provide Reader about the necessity? Like Iwai who can provide weapons to the Protag—

Story-wise, this the card of the martyr.

Wild life is surrounded by sacrifices. For the champions who sacrificed themselves, Zelda, the King, Hyrule itself.

Wild was in a situation which he had little control over. Not only the calamity, but also the burden he has. The eyes on him.

Yet once the eyes and expectations were gone, he still held on to his task and ended what's left.

Also what I like about this is the hanged man have a leg crossed to the other forming a "4" which makes me think of Wild and the four champions 🫠

Anyways, characters with this cards are in dilemma about their loss. Unable to move on, they can't choose without making sacrificing part of their identity.

So the relationship that the Reader build with them is to face the problem head-on.

Doesn't mean in the end, it's gone. The characters problem with consequences that remain but won't burden them (*cough*tearsofthekingdom*cough*)

┊・❥ Sky - The Justice

Symbolizes the strict allegory of justice, objectivity, rationality and analysis.

The card represent up-coming trials which are fitting for Sky's journey.

Gameplay-wise they excels in light-ability which fits on Sky since he is more close on the divine ones: Zelda as the reincarnation of Hylia, he is the first reincarnation of the hero, if we go to joke he lives literally above the clouds, a very lightened place lol

I have no idea what kind if ability Sky can give to the Reader and I can hear y'all yelling that Sky have more affinity at sword-wielding probably more than Warrior but listen—! ...Maybe I'll give him the bonus: detecting enemy stats, better communication and increasing critical hits 😊

Uuh, story-wise… for those who played persona, knows the tendency what this arcana has and I don't want to spoil others.

Sky. He is just there standing in the background and is mostly viewed as the soft-sky boi but when you push that anger too far?

Funny fact, this characters tend to be stoic individuals but when pushed too far they tend to take drastic measures.

He did have to deal with bullies, unfairness in competitions, his bird being treated unjustly— he gone for blood during his battle with Demise—

Anyways, I'm curious how to implement this in the story 👀

┊・❥ Legend - The Star

The arcana also symbolizes hope, fitting for Legend who brought the timeline in its Golden Era.

Gameplay-wise they excel in elemental attacks and represent multi-talented figures.

So I was thinking about skills gained by Hifum* Tog* since Legend have more experience (and worked in team in TriforceHeroes) to leave battle strategy with him instead of Four and Warrior.

Story-wise they are also multi-talented individuals which can resonate with Legend's journey. He ain't called "vet" for nothing!

Although they also deal with internal and external struggles.

┊・❥ Hyrule - The Magician

It symbolizes power, potential, and the unification of the physical and spiritual worlds.

Uhm, basically stern will and unfailing determination, also a resourceful individual which fits Hyrule so well... if you played his game (I saw a gameplay and that's...that requires a loooot of determination to finish;;;)

Gameplay-wise they excel in magic!

In simple words, he can teach Reader magic.

Also story-wise, they also tends to be the protagonist first friend.

Warrior deals with physical combat teaching so if Reader wants to learn magic Hyrule would be the one and be glad to help! And it's a good form of bonding since you both are gonna be together for.. knows how long.

┊・❥ Four - The Temperance

Symbol of synthesis, prudence, harmony, and the merging of opposites.

Gameplay-wise its figure is well-rounded and figures associated with balance

Story-wise, Four is probably the most balanced in the group, through and through.

Perhaps it's just me but he hasn't got a lot going on with him… on the outside!

He is good at hiding it and has to remind himself about self-control to not use the four sword.

┊・❥ Wind - The Sun

Symbolizes happiness, joy, energy, optimism, and accomplishment

It literally represented by a child riding a horse (in Wind's case a boat)

Story-wise, these characters find themselves in severe terrible situations but they still manage to keep optimistic despite the tragedy of their past.

No one has been this arcana in team-party in persona so game-play wise idk how they are besides being associated with light, sun and fire.

This is kinda like every Link ngl.

Unlike in Declined Hyrule which focuses more on hopefulness, the New World does focuses more on optimism to find something else beyond in the Great Sea.

Perhaps Wind didn't have a tragic story like Wild or a big one like Time. And the light-hearted style of the game (with dark story) but it does have it's message of letting go of the past and moving on to a better tomorrow.

Koko, even with more money, you would NEVER say that you are only loyal to Inupi to people who wants to know when Taiju is alone to beat him. You would NEVER say that Inupi is your most important person, the one that you want to protect no matter what, and so reveal to DB ennemies that Inupi is your weakness XD

Like "I don't care about Taiju, but i don't want him to push Inupi to do something who would send him back to juvie! He's not a good influence for my best friend!"

Anyway Kisaki will know right? or it's Ran who will tell Izana that "You want to force Koko to join you? Target his boyfriend Seishu Inui!" Yeah that's probably Ran.

ahah "I just like strong guys" was a code for "I just like Inupi, but internalized homophobia is shit"

We all know that Koko, being the simp king he is, helped Inupi with BD because Inupi smiled to him mentioning he wanted to recreate the gang lmfao. (In the end he accepted to join BD because Taiju knew he was good at making money and Taiju, as we see in the future, is a entrepreneur, at core.)

Which is exactly what happened, but seriously, since at that point Koko was already very into the scam/crime world, I wonder if he was even wondering/guessed that Taiju would become so cruel, yet efficient for the gang. Maybe he realized later that Inupi was that obsessed by the gang (we know koko is aware and tries to tell inupi to let it go, but it doesn't work)

I would have liked to have more insight in the BD arc between Inupi and Koko relationship with Taiju, because, besides the fact we know Inupi accepted Taiju because he was desperate to re-create the gang, and Koko joined for Inupi, we also know that Inupi has no problem at all to leave Taiju the moment he got beated by Mikey/Toman, and it makes perfectly sense since we know that Taiju's BD was not the ideal version of the gang Inupi wanted/remembered.

But we also realize from the last arc that in his own way Taiju cared for his inuneko duo (we know that Taiju had his problems as well)

I've got the idea that yes, Koko didn't really cared much about the gang, he was in just for Inupi. Maybe, paradoxically, he realized Inupi wasn't super happy with Taiju's management, but at the same time they were already in too deep, and as long as Inupi didn't say anything, Koko would tag along

But when Inupi met Takemichi and saw his ideals during the church battlee, I guess Inupi remembered that was not the gang he and Shin would have wanted. And Koko obviously followed him

Yeah, I guess Kisaki knew after talking with Izana a little, and I mean, from what Mucho said, it was clear to everyone how much Koko cared for Inupi and Inupi only. Kisaki is smart, it would use that to his advantage, but I also believe that he and Koko would get along in the first bad toman timeline (where also Takemichi is an executive) and we know they have their own company in the final TL, so i guess they get along. But maybe in manila TL, things are a little different

WIth the Haitani bros/Ran, I admit i wouldn't know what they'dd be capable of. This is a personal HC but I like to think they like him as a business partner and since koko is younger than them they treat him like a little brother (the haitain way of course, teasing and all). But they are also dangerous when they want, and maybe they would tell others to use Inupi against Koko (guessing that they would find their way to each other anyway?)

Again, it would have been interesting to see what happened in Tenjiku and Koko's negotiation to get Inupi a prestigious position in the gang if he accepted to join

I wanted to info dump about my AU so let's go about the timeline and some events of Winx : Origins :D

The story begin in late august 2019

All of the girls (except Stella) are born in 2004. Stella is born in 2003, like me :)

I kept the girls birthday the same from the show, so from oldest to youngest it goes like this :

Stella : August 18th 2003

Flora : March 1st 2004

Musa : May 30th 2004

Layla : June 15th 2004

Bloom : December 10th 2004

Tecna : December 16th 2004

For Beatrix (who's not Stormy in disguise in my AU) her birthday is September 14th. The year of her birth is unknow but she seems to be around 15-16 years old when she appears in the first time (design of her soon)

Domino downfall happen in December 2004. The 24th day of December more precisely, which mean that Bloom was 2 weeks old when her birth planet was doomed, and makes more sense to her inability to remember this event.

In this timeline, Daphne and the Trix were the same age. Daphne was 18 years old when Domino was destroyed... by three witches...

I don't think Daphne has a canon birthday in the OG so I decided to make her birthday happen in November 23rd 1986.

In this timeline, Icy, Darcy and Stormy are not blood sisters but they are related from the ancestral witches, who were blood sisters. They are long lost cousins. But they share the same birth date : May 5th 1986.

However, they were born at differents period of the day : Darcy was born first, at 1.11 am, then come Icy in the morning at 8.36 am and Stormy is the youngest, born at 9pm.

The Trix are 34 in this timeline.

The day of the Golden Flame, or the day when Daphne get rid of the witches from good (for now but I can't say much) happen on May 20th 2005. Daphne died this day too.

Finally, let's talk about an event that happen on Andros. And not an happy one. On August 6th 2004, aquatic Andros was attacked by land Andros, which leads to a tragedy who could have been similar to Domino downfall but luckily, this attack didn't lead to a success. However, many lives were lost and many childrens were taken away to escape this attack. Some of them were killed, others escaped and were reunited with family members, and then they are the ones who were taken away from their family to be adopted by rich land androsians (don't worry the royal family of Andros punished these people and the kids were reunited with their family or adopted by foster androsians parents (both land and aquatic) if they were orphans). It's a tragedy that foreshadowed the fate of Domino somehow and also, take a part from Layla's story (in this case, she was supposed to be reunited with her aunts but the mermaid who escorted her was severly wounded by a land androsian who shoot an arrow at her back. She and baby Layla ended up in the surface and were seen by a man named Leeslas. He tried to help the mermaid but she pass away because of her injuries, only telling him the birthdate of the baby and how special she is. Leeslas decided to adopt the little infant, calling her Layla and promissing her to be a great father figure, even if it's temporary. For now on, Layla doesn't know her birth parents and have a similar story with Bloom, but she had a way better childhood than Bloomie in this timeline.

*Day 4 and 9 do not happen in the same AU where Ludwig exists.

Day 10 is a modern AU.

She does not remember how she got here but it seems that her debts have finally caught up with her. She is chained to a wall of some sort of basement next to indistinct large boxes and all sort of other random crap. The box closest to her has some sort of freezing charm placed on it, making her uncomfortably chill.

Her arms are beginning to go numb from the position she is in as well as all her useless struggling. She feels like she has been stuck here for hours. Nobody came here to do anything to her yet but that only makes her more afraid.

Suddenly, she hears soft foot steps from the only door out. Then instead of a familiar jiggle of keys she hears barely audible rustling and the door opens so very slowly and quietly.

Finally, somebody is here for her… But she cannot be sure, so she stops moving and crawls behind her box as much as she can just in case. She stays as quiet as she can while listening to the unknown person close the door and slowly descend into the basement. His quietness is clearly elaborate, albeit imperfect. He does not want to attract attention.

He walks closer and closer to her hiding spot. And then stops abruptly. From her dark corner she can see an almost 2-meter tall well-built human man with black hair and a prominent scar going from his right lower eyelid straight down to his neck. He is clearly looking for something.

She has no idea who he is but he seems very faintly familiar. She cannot quite place it though.

“Are you here to break me out?”

Her whisper startles him and he jerks back looking down at her. His lips curl up in a wide smile after a second. He takes a step towards her and she begins crawling forward.

“How curious…” He hums looking at her and then his gaze turns towards the chilly box in front of her. “No. I’m here to get away from the party and enjoy a bottle by myself.”

She can almost hear her own heart breaking as she lets out an uncontrollable sob.

“A fight was about to break out, so I decided to… Shhhh.” The man presses a long gloved finger to his lips. “You don’t want a bunch of drunk rowdy bandits to remember that you’re here, do you, my dear?”

She does her best not to sob out loud following the weird man’s advice. His calm demeanor makes her feel slightly calmer herself. Despite her disappointment, at least, he is not here for her.

The man opens the box, rummages around for a few seconds and pulls out a bottle of clearly expensive wine. The label has been torn off but she can tell by the shape of the bottle.

“What… what are your people going to do to me?” She whispers after taking a few deep breaths.

“I had to try.” She sniffles looking up at him.

but it's not as much as they've been handing it not well but..

if you don't mind spoilers, i'll explain,

Zack is supposed to be dead!!!!!!! He's supposed to be dead!!!!!!!!

Zack's death is supposed to happen before the OG timeline and it is a consequent element of Cloud and Aerith's storyline and even Tifa's to an extend. A major part of the plot rests on Zack's death, because it traumatized Cloud so much he forgot everything about Zack and /started to mix his identity with Zack in his mind so much so that he thought what happened to Zack happened to him in flashbacks/. Which is why Aerith, Zack's ex-girlfriend (only ex because Zack DIED mind you), start to take a major interest in trying to understand what's up with Cloud because "why is this random dude i just met who has ZACK'S SWORD on his back and who's behaving just like Zack doesn't know who Zack is.". And it's important to Tifa as well because when Cloud starts to recall stuff that happened to Zack as if it happened to him, but those things are stuff Tifa knows about, it means Tifa has a mental breakdown the whole game thinking /she's/ going insane because she doesn't remember Cloud being there at all and she wonders if she made up Zack in her own mind.

And the whole thing builds up the whole game as Cloud becomes more and more instable and comes to a boil when Sephiroth ends up using the fact Cloud's memories are so fucked up Tifa has an existential crisis to push Cloud over the edge and make him entirely his puppet.

Zack haunts the narrative, his death is extremely signifiant to the game, it's the mystery of the first part of the game on "what the fuck is going on with Cloud", and once you actually get to see flashback of Zack you see he's a sweet and cheerful guy who died protecting Cloud at all cost. And Sephiroth's manipulations hinges a lot on Zack, this is literally after breaking Cloud's mind over the Zack reveal that Sephiroth is able to use Cloud to start the apocalypse.

But in the remake they went with a whole thing about how Sephiroth came back in time so the Sephiroth you see in the remake is one from the end of the game who knows what's going to happen and is playing his cards differently this time around, which leads to the Specters, "keeper of the timeline" to try to do everything to set the timeline back on rail, but the Remake ends on destroying the Specters... which, meanwhile, affect a parallel timeline where ZACK DOESN'T DIE, and the remake and rebirth have the two timelines going on, one that has some canons elements but a different Sephiroth, and one where it's Zack progressing in the plot, and i'm pretty sure from what i've seen the timelines do end up merging and Zack is able to reunite with Cloud.

And everything i've seen? Zack is super in character, he's sweet, he's perfect, and like, do you know how many fix-it AU post canon i've had over "Zack comes back to life"? it's a lot. I had a lot. To say i want Zack back is an understatement

but i really hate the way the remake is going at it and i really hate the bait and switch over "ahah maybe the characters who died won't die this timeline" because i love those characters so much i wish they were alive, but the whole story of the game needs them to die to make sense.

And so i watch Rebirth!Zack content wincing because "why the fuck is he alive he shouldn't be there you're cheapening the thematics linked to his death" while also being "ZACK ALIVE AND BREATHING WE'RE SO WINNING"

so to say i am mentally torn about all of this is an understatement.

seeing Zack's death play out is literally the thing that got me into video games and especially in ff7, his death is one of the most impactful in fiction to me along with the other ff7 death.

i'm feeling played with.

but also. Zack 😭😭😭

Eugene Appreciation Week Day Two: Found family

Summary: Horace always yearned for a life he knew he couldn't have. All he has is a dead kingdom, a bleak future and his imagination.

Everyday, Horace woke up early. At some point, he had wished to sleep more so his days would go faster, but he had soon realised that he hated the lethargy even more than the boredom, so he stopped doing it. Since then, Horace woke up early, the grey and gloomy sky he could barely see from his window his only companion.

Then, he got ready to face a new day. He took a long and unneeded time to style his hair and check the state of his skin, before making sure that his clothes were presentable - just in case someone decided to visit for the first time since his birth. Unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibilities, so Horace always made sure to look his best.

Once he got out of the bathroom, he checked each and every room of the castle, making sure that it was tidy and spiderweb-less - which, considering the numerous nook and crannies of the place, was a two-hours occupation at least. By that point, it was 9:30am, so Horace made his way to the main hall, and went to talk to his father.

Well, the portrait of his father.

Horace had always found this portrait somewhat terrifying. Edmund held a sword in his right hand, and a bear head in the other, as if he just killed it and was showcasing his power. Horace didn't like this idea, though, didn't like to think that his father would kill an innocent animal for nothing other than symbolism, so he would rather think that it was, in fact, a costume that he liked to put on when he protected the kingdom. The worst thing about this portrait was the eyes - they were dark and tortured, piercing through Horace's very soul if he ever dared tell a lie. So he never did. Each morning, at 9:35, Horace stood in front of his father's painting, looking up to it as he made what he thought to be a pretty good report about the state of things. It didn't change much from one day to another, so some informations could be repeated, but Horace hoped the man appreciated it.

After that, it was time for his favourite part of the day: going to see his mom. Well, her portrait too, but it was different, because she was different. Her smile was warm and honest, her eyes loving, with crinkles on their corners as if she had spent her whole life laughing. Horace had never lied down under the sun, because the sun never made its way to the Dark Kingdom, but he always thought that the feeling he had talking to her was probably close to that. He didn't know her name - she wasn't mentioned in the history books the way Edmund was, because these books didn't go further than his father's teenage years - but that didn't matter, because to him, she was "mom".

He could share everything with her. His fears, his hopes, the cool new thing that happened, the sadness, the loneliness, the- the- the dreams, sometimes. She could see when he hid something even to himself, and she would smile knowingly at him until he fessed up to it so, when he was sure they were alone, he once admitted that he'd like to leave, one day. Not that he didn't like this, didn't like his duty and his heritage but… One day, maybe. The kingdom came first, the duty given by his blood came first, but Horace could come second, at some point.

Then it was time to eat. His food tasted like ashes but it was better than nothing.

The afternoon was devoted to the library - his favourite room after the one that held his mother's portrait. Despite the numbers of books in it, Horace had already read and reread it all. Even the ones that made him sad - which he didn't like much, because he was already sad enough, but boredom was worse than sadness, so he read them too. Horace especially loved the Tales of Flynnigan Rider. For as long as he remembered being able to read, he remembered loving this story and trying to reenact it all on his own, which was difficult when you were alone.

Thankfully, Lance was here. He appeared one day, when Horace was eight, and helped him relieve Flynnigan's adventures to the fullest. Lance didn't need to eat, or sleep, only appearing when Horace needed him, but he was the best friend one could ask for. He was funny, and he liked Horace so they always had a lot of fun together. They grew up together, Lance always getting them in trouble with Horace's father, but it was always in good fun. Sometimes, Horace daydreamed about leaving together to be go on real adventures, but he couldn't do this to his parents or the kingdom. He had a duty to protect what was left of his ancestors' legacy, and Horace wouldn't be the weak link.

Lance wasn't there today when Horace got to the library.

Rapunzel was.

"Sunshine!" Horace grinned brightly.

"Flynn, I was waiting for you!" She laughed and threw herself at him in a tight hug.

Horace had met Rapunzel as Flynn in one of his solo imaginary adventure. He had found the tower she was kept in by luck, when he was trying to hide the crown he stole, and, since she always dreamt of leaving to see the floating lanterns, he helped her. He often re-imagined the circumstances of their pact, but Rapunzel quite liked the one when she hit him with a frying pan and blackmailed him into helping, so that's the version he went with. He had told her his real name, but Rapunzel never called him that - she always prefered Flynn, and he couldn't fault her for that. Flynn was free and brave, Horace… Horace was stuck in a castle, enacting a destiny he didn't want like a pathetic actor in an empty theater.

Rapunzel was a lot less here than Lance, because she loved to be outside. After all, she had spent eighteen years stuck in a tower, so she wasn't going to get stuck again in a castle, even to keep Horace company. However, she visited often, with always a new adventure to tell Horace. She had tried to convince him to leave, but he couldn't do it - couldn't imagine disappointing his family.

Her arms were light around his shoulders and, when his hands went around her waist, it was like there was nothing at all, but Horace felt warm all the same. He wasn't hugged often. Her short brown hair tickled his nose.

"How have you been?" He asked when she let him go, unable to keep the fondness out of his voice.

"Oh, you'll never guess what happened to me!"

Rapunzel threw herself in a tantalising tale about her outdoors adventures, perching herself on the window's flange as Horace settled on a nearby chair. She was swinging her legs happily, her green eyes full of excitement and glee, and Horace had never been so in love. She was so beautiful, so wonderful, so Rapunzel in every way, and he loved her. He loved her laugh, her hands, her unbrushed hair and sneeze, because it all made her her, and she was perfect.

And Horace was a hopeless sap. She had told him once, because, like everyone in his life, it seemed like she could read his thoughts.

"You can't love me," was her honest and sad reaction, "you can't love what's not here."

Horace hadn't understood what she meant by that, but he hadn't pushed - he was already embarrassed enough.

"... and then, the turtle opened its shell to show that the butterfly was safe in it!"

"That's so cool," Horace breathed, since he had always dreamt of seeing a turtle's house open. They were never any pictures in the book, or much descriptions really, so his imagination ran wild with the scenarios. He was glad Rapunzel got to see them.

Speaking of the devil, she had stopped talking and was looking at him pensively, a hand going to her chin.

"When are you leaving, Flynn?" she asked suddenly, startling him.

"Uh- well, one day, I guess."

"When is one day? Tomorrow? In a year? In a decade?" As she got more worked up, she jumped from her sit and got closer to his face, her arms going wild with the gestures.

"When- when I'm sure the kingdom is safe," Horace settled on, uncomfortable.

"Safe from what? Nobody ever come here."

"Well, one day someone might, and I'd need to be here." Horace nodded firmly at his own words, the script rehearsed since he was able to talk.

"And what needs you to be kept safe? What is so precious here?" Behind the genuine curiosity, Horace could see some deal of frustration inside Rapunzel's grimaces.

He froze up at the question, before shifting uneasily. He had never told her about his purpose here, and he knew she already knew what it was. But she wanted him to say it and, surely, she would want to see it too. He didn't like going to see the moonstone. It was the only thing in this castle that wasn't dead and grey, but it was death all the same. It was cold and draining, a danger for humanity, and it was Horace's duty to keep it safe from the world, and the world safe from it.

Instead of saying that, though, he played Rapunzel's game. He took her arm, even if it felt like a gust of wind in his hand, and led her down the corridors.

"This," he announced, "this is what I'm here."

In front of them was the immense statues of his ancestors, looking down on him with their empty eyes of stone. They were guarding the door to the moonstone, but Horace didn't even need to show Rapunzel that - what mattered to him was the kingdom, and what his family sacrificed for it. Horace had a duty that was bigger than his dreams of another life, where he was free to go on adventures with Lance and Rapunzel and every friends he ever made in his head (because, surely, they were waiting out there for him).

"And why is that a good reason to be here?" Rapunzel pressed anyway, as if she didn't know exactly what he meant.

"I'm carrying my family's legacy."

"Family? How are they your family?"

At that, Horace sputtered, looking affronted at Rapunzel's smiling face. He wasn't mad at her, because he knew what she was trying to do, but that was still the first time she had crossed this kind of line. Usually, when he talked about his family, she changed the subject.

"I- Well, I can show you the family tree," he laughed uneasily, a hand going to his neck.

Rapunzel didn't relent. "Is that enough to make a family?"

Horace bit his lips, his mind flashing back to the years he spent alone inside these walls, knowing he was trapped here as effectively as if there was no door. He was in a prison of his own making, its walls made of duty and cold-eyed pictures of ancestors, and he knew exactly what he was doing to himself. He remembered the years waking up alone, eating alone, sleeping alone, crying alone, until he started talking to the paintings and the characters in his books. Until, one day, he managed to make Lance appear beside him, because if he hadn't, he's not sure he'd have wanted to wake up that day. Was blood enough to make a family, when it was the only thing he had of them?

"It's enough to make a legacy," he whispered in the end.

Rapunzel's face was illuminated by the blue light of the moonstone but Horace didn't know when they got here. The ghosts of his lineage felt heavier here than they did when he could see their tall figures, the energy the moonstone constantly emitted the best reminder of his duty there was. Maybe that was why he didn't like this room.

"When will you see, Eugene?" Rapunzel smiled, her hand going to his cheek.

Eugene. The name meant nothing, and everything at the same time, but Horace couldn't put his finger on it. His body reacted when his mind came up blank, a warm feeling bumbling up in his chest.

"I…"

"Eugene," she repeated firmly, and he shivered, "your family isn't here."

But it was, he wanted to scream, because why else would he be here? Who else could be his family? Horace was the son of Edmund and his unnamed mother the paintings; he was the descendant of Lanrar the one-eyed statue and nephew of Gadmila the noseless; he was the heir of Belund the half-erased illustration from the old book in the dusty corner in the library. Horace was a being created from stones and absence, bound to the ground by an ageless duty, made alive by a sunless moon that kept him cold to his very heart. There was no family for Horace.

"But there is for Eugene," Rapunzel whispered, her thumb warming the grave that was his skin even as he knew that it was not here.

Horace was friend with ghosts of his own imagination. Eugene… The walls shivered, or maybe that was just Horace. He felt like the world was crumbling on itself, his infinite loneliness cracking under pressure, revealing a treasure he wasn't sure he could be brave enough to take. What was wrong with being alone forever in an empty kingdom?

Eugene…

He tried to take Rapunzel's hands in his but his fingers went through. She was still smiling, but he could see right through her, the moonstone shining exactly where her heart should be.

"Come on Eugene, your family is waiting for you," she said, and she was shining too, a golden hue seeping through her fingers and going to his chest, soothing the pain away as she made his memories come back.

He remembered now - Eugene had a family of his own making.

With a full-body jolt, Eugene came back to himself and let go of the heavy orb he was holding in his palms. His body was tense and trembling as he watched the dull grey ball rolling away from him, his mind flashing back to the events that led him here - the weird wedding gift addressed to Rapunzel, the orb that he was too curious not to touch and then… He remembered this other life as if he'd lived through it, remembered the loneliness and the imagined voices to fill it, remembered going crazy and refusing to leave but- that was not him. That was Horace and he wasn't…

"Eugene?" Rapunzel called worriedly, but it sounded from a million miles away. "Are you alright?" Her hand, warm and heavy and real went to his shoulder.

Though, what really shook him awake was seeing Angry and Catalina going to pick up the orb.

"Don't," he yelled sharply, surprising everyone with his outburst - and, thankfully, stopping the girls mid-movement. "Don't touch that," he added tiredly once every faces was turned toward him.

And there were a lot of faces - the girls and Lance, for one, but also Varian who was looking curiously at the orb, Stan and Pete who were looking curiously at their Captain, Pascal who was chirping on Rapunzel's head while said Rapunzel was frowning at him, worried.

"You okay buddy?" Lance asked, and, going by their bemused expressions, whatever happened may have seemed to be years but must only have took a handful of seconds.

"I-" Eugene stuttered, remembering a world where there were all figments of his imagination - a world where his only family was made of memories and obligations, where everything was dark but not only because of the sky, where Eugene never knew how much he needed them. He surveyed the room and watched all the familiar faces he loved being worried about him, about his well being, and he realised that some were missing too, that there were more people who loved him that just weren't here at the moment. Eugene knew he was lucky, but it hadn't felt as sharp in quite some time.

"Yeah, I'm okay," he breathed out finally, because, even if he wasn't exactly fine, even if there still was a weird magical orb trapping people in their worst nightmare rolling on the floor right now that had been sent to his wife, even if he'd need to hug his dad and ask for his mom's name the next time he saw him, well… Even with all that, he was okay.

He had his family with him, after all.

I really let asks get away from me lately. I was super focused on working on that Patreon Moment. With that done I can finally think about doing other things, so here’s a new collection of answers!

There won’t be. I’m sorry if you were hoping for that! The Patreon moment is meant to be entirely optional, it’s not something that gets you extra content in the main game.

Is the new CG artist the main one now? :0 I’ve noticed theres been a difference in the art style recently. Is the old CG artist still going to make art for the game? :0

The original artist still makes CGs for the game sometimes, but he mainly focuses on character sprites.

Are you going to put the NSFW our life moment on a website other than patreon? I would love to get it but I can't use patreon atm.

I don’t know. I'm afraid we can't release the Patreon Moment on a normal game storefront because we can't mix 18+ content with our family friendly game. If there's some other place similar to Patreon where it's not the normal type of full-scale public content releases we'd consider using that, but I’m not sure if there is another site that’s better than Patreon in that regard. I'm sorry.

Out of curiosity, in all of your games so far, which characters in each were the most fun to write? They obviously don't have to be your favorite characters!

Buffalo Seer in AFA, really everyone in XOD/XOBD is pretty equally entertaining to write, The Guide in LoV, and Cove in OL!

Mostly, I’ve been watching/listening to Authortube videos as of late! It’s people who talk generally about the process of how books become traditionally published and/or share their own experience as they attempt to be published. I don’t have an interest in writing normal text based books, but it’s really interesting to hear about that world. I’m listening to a video about royalties right now as I answer these asks.

I don’t know, ahah. I didn’t have any numbers in mind for that. So it’s whatever you imagine it is!

I noticed a bug with the Patreon moment when it comes to what your character wears. When Jamie and Cove are kissing while my character only had dresses selected, I had both the option to remove the dress or to remove the shirt... Picking one of the options to interact with Cove, after he removed his shirt, it had Jamie remove their shirt followed by ther pants despite only having dresses picked.

I’m afraid things haven’t been changed or removed, so I think you might’ve accidentally picked the wrong things somewhere along the way and locked yourself out of being able to propose by mistake. Sometimes you meant to say you want to get married but instead you mis-click and have it so the MC isn’t thinking about marriage or something. All I can suggest is starting from the beginning of Step 3 and making sure to follow the steps listed in the FAQ. I’m sorry for that.

Did yall remove some of the options for when youre making out with Cove in the charity moment? I could've sworn you could grab his bonkadonk and its not there anymore

This is the same situation as the above. We didn’t remove things and you’re not wrong that there are sometimes those options. But there are various choices you have to make to get those options and it sounds like you accidentally missed something. If your relationship isn’t long-term, you can’t do it for example.

Yeah, he’s awkward about it because he likes the MC and it feels very personal to share a straw with his crush.

Hi! I just wrapped up my second playthrough of Our Life, and I absolutely adore it, but I had a question. I went to the gallery and found I was missing 2 CGS (specifically Step 1-3 and 2-3) and I had no clue where they would've shown up. Which moments are those found in?

You get it by telling Cove about his dad offering you money to be his friend in Step 1 and Step 2. You can’t get both in one playthrough, since you can only tell Cove the truth once. I’m really glad you liked it!

I don’t know, aha. I think Baxter was around 5′10 and Derek was like 5′8/5′9, maybe. I really am not one who has specific heights for things in mind.

A switch, though would choose the top if he had to pick.

I was wondering if there is a way to transfer save data? Even if through the game files. I wanted to be able to transfer my save data from my desktop over to my laptop so that I could continue playing right where I left off from but I'm not entirely sure how to go about that.

If you save the save folder/persistent data of the game from your desktop and put it into the game folder on your other device, that could work.

Unfortunately, it’s not really something we have a plan for. We couldn’t finish the game if we tried to include every disability and have it be meaningful. It’d just be too much content to create. But if we decide to only include a few, how would we choose which disabilities get to be represented and which are left out? I don’t know. It’ll probably have to be something we don’t include as an option again, sadly. I’m sorry.

Honestly, I would like to thank Our Life for helping me come to terms with my sexuality. Before, I never would've actually thought that it was possible to like boys romantically and still be asexual. Almost all of the BL visual novels I've read had unskippable sexual content in them and it honestly just didn't click with what I feel. I'm glad I found Our Life. I love the game, the developers, and this fandom so much. Now, I can safely come out as homoromantic AND asexual (at least anonymously here anyway; my parents are still huge homophobes 😂).

I keep replaying Our Life to get every possible iteration and I am loving it <3 I was wondering if Cove gets locked out of his confession because MC was talking to Lee, would it be possible to confess to him in step 4?

Yeah, you can avoid the confession in Step 3 and then get it in Step 4.

Hi, my Cove wears bracelets through step 2 and 3 but I still don't get an option to give him a bracelet? I didn't even know that was possible until I seen someone else ask about it lol

Hm, did you use the Cove creator? Maybe there’s a bug where using the creator to add bracelets doesn’t fulfill the requirement to give Cove a bracelet in Step 3.

Wait, I'm dense, when does Baxter appear in step 2? Is it from big park firework? I feel so bad since i really love Baxter and waiting to buy his dlc.

It’s in the Soiree Moment. You have to be just friends with Cove, indifferent, or crushing but not ask Cove to the dance at all. Then while there you can find someone new to dance with. But if you bring Cove to the dance while crushing, the MC won’t wanna dance with anyone else so you can’t get the scene.

In step 2 when we go to the soiree I made my mc go alone and baxter chooses the mc to dance, i'm curious, why did he pick the mc? sorry if this has been asked before!

Because the MC looked to be around his age, seemed to also be searching for a partner, and had nice legs. A perfect option for him.

I read some of the FAQs, and I saw that we could tell Baxter about the condo that he rented there was previously the mean old grandparents. how do we get the mc to tell him that?

It happens in the DLC Moment “Late Shift”. If you don’t have a job you instead get a longer scene with Baxter.

I’m afraid I’m not sure what you mean. Are you asking how we programmed the screen or something script related? Adding Moments like that is pretty straightforward, though. You just have buttons that open to different labels and then the scripts are essentially individual short stories/vignettes. Good luck with your VN!

Since Autumn becomes gender fluid later in the game, will there be a character who remains as he/him to romance in game?

OL1 has the he/him LIs, OL2 is all about other genders.

I don't want to impose on your creative plans, but a parrot could possibly make a good pet in an OL-type game? They're pretty long-lived and likely to still be thriving by the end even if the MC got them back in step 1.

I do appreciate the suggestion, but I’m afraid it’s not likely going to happen. I understand there are technically some animals that could theoretically live long enough to last the whole game that or we could have the MC only get a pet after some years have already passed. But the many things that would have to be considered/accommodated for makes it just something we probably can’t manage adding. I’m sorry.

Can you date Cove and still have your family comfort you in the car?

You can’t get Cove’s Step 3 confession scene if you have the family comfort you in the car. But that’s not the only way to date him. You can get together with him earlier in the game or later on in Step 4.

Is Mc always going to be the one walking down the aisle or could Cove do it? Also could you choose to have one of your moms walk you?

No. Cove wouldn’t want to walk down the aisle like that and the MC automatically respects that. And the MC also gets to have their preferences respected, so it’s up to you whether they want to do an aisle walk or not. You also can pick who, if anyone, walks with you.

Once step 4 is out, will you be able to go the whole game on crush/love without either of you confessing?

Yes, as long as you tell the game you don’t want to progress the relationship. Even in Step 4 it won’t force you to officially get together.

He’s only a friend unless you get his romance story.

Step 4 is just an epilogue in both games.

Nope. Cliff has a very small interest in sex. If he’s not in a real relationship with a partner he’s crazy about it simply isn’t something he feels a need for, so one night stands wouldn’t even cross his mind.

Maybe! There are side characters who could be given romance stories, but whether or not it will happen depends on funding and how long everything else takes to finish.

fandom: harry potter. pairing: remus lupin x reader | the reader simps for lupin because isn’t that all what we do daily ? summary: connected to the self indulgent series where the reader is a slytherin muggle born witch working alongside the teachers at hogwarts. note: this series will bounce around a lot involving timelines, but a lot of them don’t really have a coherent story line anyway. movie setting: prisoner of askaban. pov: she/her pronouns.

you were looking off into the distance in a daze, end of pen in mouth as your writings came to a halt and instead getting caught up in thoughts. your summer hadn’t been great, if you were being completely honest : your muggle friends were getting on your case regarding being missing for a year, you knew at some point you had to pick : the wizarding world or the muggle one, living two lives was absolutely exhausting, living them meant being two types of people - like one example, you had accidentally used a levitating spell to put a cup back and last minute your friend walked in, smashing on the floor as your hand flinched down to your side.

“ what was that crash ? “ “ i put the mug too close to the counter, “ you had laughed nervously, quickly walking towards the glass to pick it up “ it fell off as a result ” “you’re clumsiness is going to be the death of you “

that was only one of the close calls, there were far too many to keep track of, including dropping hints to the wizarding world in conversation, only to stutter and try and say you were referencing a bizarre indie movie from overseas. at this point you were trying to pick would it be even possible to choose a side ? it seemed impossible just to pick one over the other, especially knowing that no matter what route you take it would result in an empty, hollow feeling left inside of chest. you’re not sure who you could go to for guidance, you weren’t familiar with any muggle borns your own age, and talking to a pureblood or half blood would go in vein, the latter would understand to some degree, but ultimately it’s not the same and with it being so complicated, listening to people who barely got it would be a waste of time and only twist the knife in gut.

“ everyone, i would like to introduce you to remus jo - “ that was all you really heard dumbledore say before ears blocked out the world like static, everything beyond the screaming in your head made everything else seem like a distant hum with no tune, a crackle of a tv that can’t quite catch signal. your pen tapped against your bottom lip, perching against it as you eyebrows knitted together in deep thought.

maybe professor dumbledore could help, he wouldn’t get it but maybe he could shred some light on the situation ? he was always good at that.

“ miss l/n - “

perhaps it’s all just being blown out of proportion, work leave would surely be something the muggles would understand that. even if they are after photos, work gossip and other details -

“ y/n “ between the firmness and the sudden block of your view as the men stepped into eyesight causes you to flinch, reeling away from nothing in panic as you try and grasped your surroundings once more, blinking up in a rapid succession that causes concern to flash on the two men’s faces. it takes a moment to register where you were, the surroundings, what the hell was going on in general...

“ huh ? “ your tongue pokes out to roll against your bottom lip, eyes wide as you stared up at dumbledore, only for sight to break away from the one your most familiar with to the new guy... you won’t lie to yourself, you weren’t ready for seeing someone like him, especially in your state. his eyes were beaming with life, amusement dancing behind dark hues as a faint smile tugged at lips, hands pushed far into pockets as eye contact seemed to lock, your lips part to say something, anything but much like before your brain seemed to short circuit, this time for an entirely and much more embarrassing reason, “ huh ? “ you repeated again, cheeks coming to life with colour as you kept looking at the new guy.

“ this is professor lupin, y/n. the new defence against the dark arts teacher - “ speaking slower now, and you’re rather grateful for the approach because you really needed things to stop going by so quickly, the whole world seemed to flash in front of you at lightening speed.

“ oh “ a pause, then it really began to register “ OH ! “ it was the most beautiful example of a pin drop ever to grace hogwarts’ walls ( yes, dumbledore will be thinking about it years to come ) - you jump up rather clumsily and hold your hand out to the man “ hi, sorry - i was just ... never mind, hi ! “ you repeated again, the embarrassment settling deep within bones, making itself at home in the creases of mind that would take weeks to weave out. but regardless of the mocking in head, you do your best to not feed it and give it anymore attention... at least for the time being. lupins much bigger hand wraps around yours, a firm but gentle grasp as he finally takes the moment to speak himself.

“ that’s quite alright, i can tell that we disturbed you. in fact i believe we should be the ones apologising, however professor dumbledore here insisted on the introduction - “ it came easily, between tone of his voice and the warmth of his hand, you’ve never felt safer, it was like being in a warm hug beside the fire on the night of winter; you mentally slap yourself for acting like a teenager towards a complete stranger. your eyes however, narrow towards dumbledore, in a way blaming you own pathetic display on him. a faint smile on his lips as he made up some excuse to leave the pair of you alone, not at all hiding the way his eyes twinkled with amusement at the scene that played out.

your hand flexed around remus’, far too busy sending daggers at dumbledore walking away than the fact you were still holding the older man hostage, not helping the murmured “ ugh, he can be such an arse sometimes - “

“ i believe that’s apart of the charm “ remus chimed, your eyes moving back to his as you smiled up at him once more, less tense than what your face was previously “ um, miss l/n ? your hand - “

“ oh, fuck, sorry - “ instantly your arms folded across your chest, the blush only darkening your cheeks “ i promise i’m not this socially inept, well, at least to this extent - “

“ oh, don’t fret. i’ve met much worse people, i myself tend to panic in social situations. they’re not my forte “ you shoulders relax, though you can’t help but note that he seemed surprisingly at ease even with the confession. your eyes dance around the staff room, much to your own relief they seemed to be back to focusing on their own work.

“ well, you’re doing much better than me if that’s any help. so, you’re teaching dark arts - ? “ then the conversation seemed to spark to life without much spluttering after that, eventually both sitting on the couch and bonding over lessons; including how you got your position in the first place, your arm rested on the back of the furniture as your body turned fully to him, the longer the pair of you were sat there, the more they progressed beyond work and more into personal ones, about experiences outside of hogwarts and within the walls, not helping the fits of giggles that bubbled in your chest.

“ being a slytherin comes with the natural title of ‘dark pranks,’ most of us tend to live up to the name. people demonise us, so we give them a reason to continue it. that certainly doesn’t end at our humour, i think it shows more than ever in that aspect - “ you giggled again, head shaking “ i remember my friends putting a real snake in one of the gryffindors bed covered in animals blood, the girl panicked for weeks - but they started it ! “

“ i must say being a gryffindor myself, i feel like i should be offended on behalf of them. then again, my friends here were trouble makers as well. their pranks could... “ wrist rolled in the air, and while there’s a hint of pain twisting in features and a haunted look that seemed to cover bright eyes, there was still a fondness in how he spoke “ extremely, well and truly out of hand ? “

“ ahah ! “ it’s like a triumph, finger pointing at the others face “ you can hide behind the fancy wording all you want, professor. but you gryffindors can be just as over the top as the rest of us, if not more so ! “ he knocks your hand away from his face playfully, grin widening as mock offence does its best to take over features.

“ firstly, you may call me remus, second of all, i will agree with nothing you say, i would never stoop so low. “

your heart skipped a beat at the notion.

“ you may call me y/n, only when you admit i’m right - “

a nice joke to push down the giddiness of calling him by his first name the short hours of knowing him.

“ how very slytherin of you - “

“ how very gryffindor of you to point that out, remus “

the back and forth banter eventually came to a halt, as minutes ticked by it was time to go to the great hall for food and to sort out the new years. you and remus walked in a comfortable silence, a lightness surrounding you both as it showed in your steps, and showed in the way his lips remained locked in a subtle smile. you were left with one feeling... finally, dumbledore hired someone worthwhile. you would also give him a hard time for that awkward bow that he did at dinner.
