This is an x y/n headcanons visual thing.

Firstly, all depends on the closeness you have with Toby.

🍨 Plaything

🍰 Congratulations, you got him interested in you. Maybe it's your overly humorous reaction to him running after you, while he was chaotically swinging his hatchets. Maybe you had a drastically different reaction to his previous victims.

🍰 Either way, he loves tormenting you; his morals are either absent or corrupt. He likes to scare you, looking into your window to your room at night, laughing and rambling nonsense once you notice him (doesn't matter which floor you live on; he can climb). He can inflict some minor or not so pain on you, especially during his episodes, from randomly swinging his weapons in anger or excitement to pushing you around. There is no particular aim in that; he just feels like it, or his mind is fogged by voices and emotions.

🍰 Contrary to popular belief, he isn't shy, he isn't easily embarrassed. He is loud, obnoxious; he will make his opinions known to you; he will comment on anything you do or any of your clothes, personal belongings, even your family. He is here to have fun, not to worry about your feelings. As long as you entertain him, he will keep you alive, driving you to madness.

🍰 He can and will find you anywhere, will make you look like an insane person to other people. He is good at hiding and is skilled at hurting physically and emotionally from a distance (throwing a rock in the head, displacing objects in the room to make one paranoid, etc.). A 2-meter-tall stalker running around with two axes after you? You're hilarious, y/n!

Coincidentally, his boss doesn't order him to kill you; maybe you don't disturb his work much, after all, he doesn't visit you all the time (his life doesn't revolve around you). Just the least when you expect him.

🍰Telling him he is disgusting or commenting his mental issues will result in an instant end, unless he would want to play a chasing game in the forest with you before that.

🍰 If you have an S/O, he will mock you for choosing such a pitiful person as a partner. Just hope he won't involve your S/O in your little games. He doesn't care about your personal life, but he sure knows how dear this relationship is to you.

🍨 "We are buddies, r-right?"

🍰 You somehow managed to survive his attacks, random outbursts, mood swings, threats and, for some reason, decided to befriend him.

Honestly, being his friend is the healthiest you can get and keep bits of your private space at the same time.

🍰 He, despite being insane, brainwashed, and amnesiac, starts to see you more than just an amusement park attraction as a cute little pet, not really an equal. Your relationship is a bit more than him having a blast using physical or mental torture on you. Your presence and personality are also fun, who knew?!

🍰 Maybe, would EVEN feel a slight parody of pity for you. Especially if you tell him your sad stories of your life. He is terrible at comforting, but if the stars align right, he can play his favorite cassettes to you with cheery songs or try to make jokes, but don't expect that to happen every time. Maybe a pat on the head would happen, usually, he would tell you to stop being sad as there are worse things to cry about.

🍰 He teases you and pranks you a lot. Doesn't matter what state you are in.

🍰 His idea of friendship is a bit twisted. You won't mind that he will destroy your belongings if he finds them annoying, right? You are friends! Friends don't hold grudges against each other! Or if he would hurt your family members or friends because they said or did something that triggered his aggression, right? Friends forgive each other! You don't mind sharing everything with him, from food to information, because friends don't keep secrets from each other!

🍰 There is a good part to this relationship. He is kinder to you. Perhaps, would bring you a cute little trinket or object stained in blood. Friends make gifts for each other! He would appreciate it if you would give him something. Be careful what you give him, as he interprets your gifts in his own way. New hoodie? Are you implying his tastes are bad? Are you mocking him?

🍰 This is also where you can shape your friendship into a seemingly normal one. Food is a safe option. Learn what he likes to convey to him that you care about him. The man needs kindness deep inside. It will confuse him; he might get angry at you, at the world without understanding why, but the long-term result is worth the risk.

🍰 If you are in danger, he might save you. Although you will bear the guilt of some hooligans being either deadly hurt or dead.

🍰 He is also more open to you. You can hold small conversations with him, discussing music, for example. However, if he is in one of his episodes or even just mood swings, he can snap, shout at you or just be mad at you for an unknown reason, while rambling something incomprehensible and leave you alone for a week or more. Violence isn't completely off the table either.

🍰 If you have an S/O (or just hangs out with friends), He can get jealous because you don't pay attention to him at that exact moment. He isn't always jealous, just sometimes. If he is in a terrible mood, might even hurt your S/O, he isn't shy at that stage to involve anyone in the mess. He can complain about your S/O. It's not advised to dispute him, as he can get angry at you. You are his friend! Why are you fighting him?

🍨 Obsessive

🍰 After a lot of talking, gifts and, if you were bold enough, light friendly physical touch, he is feeling smitten by you.

🍰 You notice weird signs of attention from him, he makes some sort of romantic gestures, but it comes off as creepy to you. For instance, he thought a fur coat is what you would like, but he didn't realise you need to work on the fur instead of giving it bloody to you.

🍰 He doesn't understand himself, his voices aren't helping him either, he is feeling hate then sickly love from one second to another. If he thinks too much about that, he twitches and tics more than usual, especially in your presence. He is more distant; he doesn't respond to you. He just sits there, shifting his eyes without focusing on anything, occasionally roughly turning to one of his auditory hallucinations.

🍰 You don't understand his ramblings or whispers, and now they are more disjointed than ever. He avoids you for a few months or even more. It worries you more than him being around you, as you're used to his presence by now. Who knows, maybe he got bored with you and just contemplates how brightly he could end your life.

🍰 He can't run from his feelings forever. As a snow during summer, he busts into your house and just dumps all his thoughts on you—just an incomprehensible jumble. You won't understand it right away until he grabs you by the shoulders and forces you into an embrace, then pushes you away, twitching, staring into your soul, waiting for your response. He doesn't say, but he already knows how you feel, even if he lies to himself. He is attentive and sensitive to human emotions, and he reads body language quite well.

🍰 You have a choice. If you deny his love, either one of things will happen. You die because he feels like it. You don't like him, if he kills you, he kills his feelings for you at the same time. Yet, there is a slim chance he can just forcefully make you like him, can lead to kidnapping, but you won't love him that way either, he would realize that, that's not right, and you are also dead in this scenario.

🍰 If you lie and accept his feelings, you won't last long, either. He notices all the slight restless movements around him, your discomfort, the way you look at him. He hates liars, so it's best to be honest and die quickly rather than slowly.

🍰 If you have a strong, twisted friendship and you learn how to talk to him, how to act when he is difficult to interact with, and you just find him with his bouquet of disorders and trauma charming in his own way, then you don't need to say much to him.

🍰 He doesn't know anything about relationships. He can come off as toxic, as his jealousy flies from low to high in a matter of moments. He is still a snappy, angry, insane serial killer, he just now sometimes apologizes if he was too rude to you. More gifts too, woo-hoo!

🍰 He is obsessive, but that also depends on a lot of circumstances. He wants to be around you as much as possible. Just your presence gives him some sort of emotional bliss when his thoughts are a bit less loud than usual. At the same time, his thoughts are chaotic and get under his skin, and he can disappear for some time. Or one of your words can trigger him; he can be violent or distant.

🍰 Dates with him are attempts to replicate what he sees in movies. He watched whatever old VHS he found in abandoned cabins or houses in the woods, so it's pretty vanilla and traditional, dare I say: eating ice cream together, watching movies, slowly dancing to some old music. He uses old pickup lines too if he feels particularly spicy.

🍰 He isn't touchy. He is touchy unless there is a sinister goal in mind or he wants to be annoying. Toby subconsciously associates touch with bullying or violence. You have to teach him to appreciate affection and kindness, and it will take you a lot of time.

🍰 Eventually, with a lot of pain he adjusts to your taction. He likes to sit next to you, shoulder pressed against yours, while resting his head on your shoulder or head, enjoying peace and silence, while you fidget with his fingers, occasionally placing brief kisses on bruises on his hand. He likes small touches. Once he learns what a surprise hug is, he abuses the life out of it. Be prepared to have mini-heart attacks when he screeches into your ear and hugs you from behind while you return from a small grocery trip back home. Other than that, his level of tactility remains the same.

🍰 His mask and goggles are also mental protection for him from the world. You notice that he takes them off when he is around you.

🍰 He is weak for compliments..even if he overthinks, in some instances, becomes angry or sad, whatever mood hits at the moment, but deep down he is squealing. He will hint at that in his own way by trying to compliment you. This is also important as at times he feels paranoid you are plotting something against him, so compliment him when you can.

🍰 Small acts, like maybe washing his bloody clothes or sewing them as they have a lot of holes, makes him intensely love you. He just stares at you, you just think he is probably hallucinating something.

🍰 Movies showed what women truly desire, so he is a gentleman, ..tries to be, so he would bring you flowers that he probably snatched from a nearby garden. Would keep the door for you, all that, his twitching, ticking, can make it unpredictable. If you're slammed by the said door on your side, trust him, he didn't mean it.

🍰 If you see him just lying down and doing nothing for days, don't try to extremely cheer him up or, goodness forbid, say "smile some more." Just be by his side, be patient. He will become cheery again soon.

🍰 He is jealous, he cares about your attention more than ever. So be careful how you act around your friends, family, or strangers if you want them to be at least alive by the morning.

🍰 His mind can be fogged by rage sometimes, so stay out of his way, he isn't in his head when he is like that.

🍰 Oh, if you have an S/O while he is in this state. No more of that S/O, maybe not you either. If anyone dares to flirt with you, no more of that person, either. You can beg Tobs to just end the lesson with a severe beating but good luck with that. He may switch his unstable bloodthirst onto you if you try too hard.

hi i saw a post about the fish playing with the human child and even though your addition to that post is 3 years old by now i would love to hear more about ftm sheephead fish :3 (no pressure btw!)

Fish curiosity, in my inbox?? It's more likely than I think, apparently! xD

First off, there's actually multiple fish dubbed 'sheephead'! There's the sheepshead- note the extra S in there- and they look like this:

And yes those are their teeth. Horrifying tbh, but they're very good at what they do- crushing invertebrates and other shelled snacks! They're an Atlantic species that sticks to temperate and warmer waters, and they max out at about half a meter in length.

That's not the fish we're talking about today. The focus of today is the California sheephead wrasse- note the lack of a second S- also known as the 'sheephead' for short. Not confusing at all! We definitely don't bash our heads into walls over the naming conventions and lack of record-keeping of our scientist predecessors.

THIS is the sheephead wrasse, the species of the lovely and now Tumblr-famous Red! :D With a length of up to a FULL meter, they're a whole different size class of fish! They can be found along the west coast USA from the Baja Peninsula all the way up to Monterey, and dwell almost exclusively in kelp forests and nearby environments. I will use one of Red's pics as an example of female coloration-

The lighting isn't great but you can see how her body is streamlined, and besides the white underside of the jaw, has a salmon-pink coloration! Females can be pink or a dull silver-beige. And much like other large marine wrasse, MALES have a drastically different appearance.

This thing is built like a damn tank!! Sheephead are a species of wrasse that shift colors to gain those striking black scales and physically bulk up when becoming males- because guess what? ALL OF THEM ARE BORN FEMALE! By default, all male California Sheephead are FTM trans :) They use that bulky head and extremely tough set of jaws to not only hunt their preferred prey- mollusks, gastropods, and bivalves, etc- but also to bash and chomp down on rival males. This one has won many battles, look at that scarred up muzzle!

The sex change is determined by several factors, as it's not guaranteed all sheephead will eventually become males. Because sheephead school in a harem system- many females to very few males- in order to maximize pressure of stronger offspring, the biggest and healthiest sheephead male will drive out competition from the school. Naturally, a sheephead that lives longer and gains a greater size will have a much higher chance of shifting from a female to a male, if the conditions are right. Stress induced from competition can suppress the hormones that stimulate this transition in females, so they're less likely to gain size and shift from female to male if there's already strong competition taking place. However, in the event there are too few males to mate with the females, or no males present at all, the biggest female will start transitioning to fill the empty slot! It's a long process that can take as few as a couple months, or up to years, depending on resources available.

Conversely, if there are TOO MANY males, they can revert back into females! This process also takes a long time, and is a lot more rare to witness, especially because right now male California sheephead in particular are being spear-fished into becoming an Endangered species :c Sheephead adult males in good condition are considered a trophy animal in spear-fishing and similar marine trophy hunting off the West coast, and because males in particular are being targeted, the gene pool is being reduced when it wrecks the harem structure of schools.

As a fun fact- they're also an incredibly smart fish, and can form relationships with humans, as demonstrated with me and sweetiepie Red cx There's many documented cases of large marine wrasses forming long-term friendships with divers! Here's a humphead wrasse that made friends with a diver she learned would crack snails open for her with a hammer:

I don't work at the facility with Red anymore, but I currently work with two unnamed adult male sheephead, and once again they both like me and seem to despise all my coworkers, even if I never had the opportunity to train them like I did with little Red xD They pick favorites I guess? Now if only I could make friends with the garibaldi...

Love life :

I'm having the best relationship this year! It's literally the healthiest relationship I've ever been in, its even beyond what I imagined! I literally met my perfect match our compatibility is off the chartsss we're so perfect together. He's def my soulmate we get eachother so well without even speaking. It's amazing how much fun we have together , it's so lighthearted yet deep , it's transparent and beautiful and pure. Ugh our love is so powerful! He treats me so well he spoils me all the time like I'm his princess all I do is just exist and he's like "omg goddess I'm obsessed with you". Not to mention he's so loyal, honest, generous, kind, masculine, secure, handsome, rich, he provides for me endlessly, he makes me laugh, I feel so comfortable and safe, our dynamic is the best I feel so grateful and he feels the same. This is literally one of the biggest highlights for me this year 😍 a love so powerful, passionate yet peaceful and uplifting. Marriage is def around the corner!

My popularity increased so much this year! Everyone seems to wanna be either my lover or my friend! Ig bc I've been focusing on myself and my life everyone is so magnetically attracted to me! I made some really amazing solid friendships this year ♡ I feel so blessed to have such good genuine friends who share my interests! It's amazing how much my social circle expanded this year I've def been getting out of my comfort zone and feeling much more extroverted, outgoing and confident socialising and connecting easily with others! I'm so charming and pretty and smart that people fall in love with me easily, I'm so easy to love, I lost count of how many love confessions I got this year! “I do,” you gingerly took her hands in yours, “I think you’re funny! And cool! And I really really REALLY wanna be your friend!” You bounced on your heels a little, “Pllleeaaaaassseeeeee!”

LeyLey glared at your interlocked hands, contemplating this decision, “…..alright.”

You squealed, enveloping her in a bear hug. LeyLey squirmed, hitting your arms so you’d let go, but it was no use. Eventually, she gave up. Letting herself go slack in your arms like a cat.

From then on, you two were inseparable

In a way, you balanced each other out

You kept Ashley from biting the heads off of anyone she came into contact with

And Ashley protected you from people looking to take advantage of you

Though, none would say this is the healthiest friendship

You care for each other, sure, but you tend to enable to worst habits in the other..

A/N: Thanks to the lovely anons who requested this! This is slightly similar to the falling for a friend hcs I did a while back, but I thought I’d try to cover the more unrequited aspects, though I'm not the best at those. Hope you like it anyway!

Jin:

GUILT. He honestly feels so bad that he’s put you in this awkward of a situation, even though you don’t have a clue you’re even in an awkward situation.

As I said before, I think he would try to content himself with just being the best ‘best friend’ you could ever ask for.

Which works, until it doesn’t. Because the closer you get, the harder it is for him to hide his feelings.

He fusses/worries about you a lot.

Would probably get jealous surprisingly easy, but try and brush it off with comments like “They’re just not good enough for you.”

Yoongi:

I’ve said it before, if he doesn’t want you to know about something, you. will. never. know. and that’s especially true when it comes to this.

Even if he’s absolutely head over heels for you, you won’t catch on, bc he finds legitamite excuses for any questionable behavior he might display around you.

Becomes a bit standoff-ish at times, but if he ever sees you struggling with something or needing help, he’s there in an instant.

It honestly gives you whiplash how fast he goes from ‘I don’t care’ to ‘I care a lot actually’, but he claims he’s just trying to be a good friend.

Y’all probably fight a lot, but If anybody else ever hurts/upsets you tho, he will end them(only half joking).

Hobi:

Again, as I said before, he’s naturally a very affectionate person, so how he’d behave towards his crush wouldn’t be that different from how he is with his other friends.

But on the inside, I think he would be overanilyzing everything, trying to make sure he’s not overstepping any bounderies.

Very much the ‘suck it up and smile’ mentality, which isn’t exactly the best/healthiest approach, but he doesn’t care.

So long as you’re happy, he’s happy.

I actually think he would be one of the worst at this kind of dynamic, he’d either end up confessing or distancing himself.😥

Namjoon:

So conflicted.

Might try and distance himself from you at first, bc he thinks it’ll make it easier from him to get over you, but then he just feels lonely all the time, and he’d rather be with you than without you, so he just tries to suck it up and pretend everythings cool.

Which he’s pretty good at, to an extent.

Literally can not stand seeing you flirt or show interest in anyone else tho, like it makes him feel physically unwell. If you do, he’s ghosting for a bit.

You end up developing a very intense ‘on again, off again’ friendship, which results in more than a few fights between you😖

Jimin:

As usual, Jimin is the personification of confusion for me.

Bc he doesn’t exactly hide his feelings towards you, but he’s always tacking on the line of ‘as a friend’ to the end of everything to avoid looking suspisious.

Flirting is basically his second language tho and that will not change unless it makes you uncomfortable, and then he’s the image polite respectfulness.

He just always wants you to be comfortable and happy, but he can get a bit over protective at times for seemingly no reason.

Every now and then though, it starts to weigh on him a bit more and he gets a bit moody and distant.

Taehyung:

Acts completly normal, until he doesn’t.

Can go from beaming and having the best time with you to sad puppy in instant bc he caught himself going to hold your hand or smth, and he has the record scratch moment of ‘wait no, that’s not what friends do’.

Of course you catch these sudden drops in his mood, but he never tells you what’s going on, so you just try to stick closer to him to make him feel better.

Which only increases his frustration sometimes, but other times he can’t help indulging in the affection when he can get it.

Tends to feel guilty afterwards for not being honest with you, but he’d rather have you as just a friend than potentially not at all.

Jungkook:

Not the best at hiding his feelings, but he manages.

His main issue is that he gets jealous and overprotective very easily, but knows he can’t exactly keep you close without drawing attention to himself.

Has nearly gotten into several fights bc he didn’t like the way someone was looking at/treating you. You joke that he’s your guard dog, but he takes it seriously.

Similar to Joon, y’all would end up with this ‘on and off’ type relationship that goes from being super close to barely talking.

Another that I think would either end up confessing anyway, just to get it out there, or pulling away.

I’ve been skimming through fluff fics lately, and a fun little realization popped up in my mind. It’s not often people talk about the downs in a potential relationship with the twst boys. For the sake of a more realistic perspective, I’ve got to ask. Who do you think is most likely to unintentionally hurt Yuu and why? - 🦐

Hello my shrimpy friend! So nice to hear from you, hope you're doing well. Fan fic in general isn't very focused on portraying the negative parts of a relationship because it's a form of escapism. People don't necessarily want to picture themselves in a bad spot in a relationship if they already are in one in real life, yk?

That being said making mistakes is part of any relationship so I do have some thoughts! They/them used for Yuu as always, this is angst so proceed with care.

Azul- he doesn't have the healthiest mental framework surrounding friendships, and you do need to be friends with your SO to have a solid relationship. An actual relationship with Yuu would probably have a bumpy start as you two try to feel out what the dynamic is actually supposed to be. Take it slow and everything will be fine, but there might be some hurt feelings along the way. And a lot of assumptions from other people about your relationship that don't help either of you.

LEONA- he's a rude ass bitch who doesn't have great manners I am so sorry to this man. To be fair though I think a lot of that rudeness would be something that would take place before the actual relationship, because I firmly believe if it's pointed out to Leona by his partner that he has communication issues he's more than willing to work on that with them. He would be a good boyfriend! It's just all the conversations up to the actual going out that's painful and might ruin what he wants before he actually gets it.

Riddle- so I don't think Riddle's treatment of Yuu is what might hurt them exactly, his issues as always have to do with his mother. He needs to figure out exactly how he wants to deal with his childhood trauma and his adult relationship with her, but that's going to take a lot of time and personal growth. Mrs. Rosehearts seems like the type to try and continue running her son's life after he graduates so I can't see her treating Riddle's partner well. Going no contact with an emotionally abusive parent is really hard for their children to do, Riddle needs love and support but the journey can be emotionally draining for the person giving that support.

Sebek- again with the family thing. His parents sound like wonderful people but his Grandfather seems to only like his grandchildren because they're half fae and still actively hates his son in law. I can't see him treating Yuu any better, which I could see being very draining since Sebek and his grandpa are very close. It could also be a chance for Baul to change a bit, which would be nice.

Cater and Idia- I'm making them share a spot because similarly to Leona I think the major hurts would be caused pre-relationship, but unlike him I don't see their communication issues as being something that would affect the relationship in the same way going forward. Cater has a lot of insecurities and can be a bit shallow, but he is a good friend so once he accepts Yuu as a safe space to speak openly and honestly I don't see them as having too many issues. Idia is also shown to be very open and honest with Ortho, his self hatred, temper, and inferiority/superiority complex just get in the way of him letting anyone else in.

In general, a lot of the twst guys have communication issues which is something people can work through, but would still cause some pain. Something to think about I suppose σ(￣、￣=)

An observation about TGAMM The End

Big big spoilers ahead, click away if you aren't caught up

This is also my first NEGATIVE TGAMM analysis post! Wowie! So if you don't want to see me bitch, also click off now

The End and how Molly McGee's character was disrespected

The End is. An episode. I have many MANY thoughts about it but it would be far too long to put in one post so I'm going to explore one of my more reoccurring opinions. This episode recontextualized a lot of things but I'm going to talk about how it recontextualized Molly as a character. Most importantly as a MAIN character. A TITLE character. A character with her own past and personality and feelings. All of which this episode completely stomped all over, handed her the check, and said "figure it out"

I want to apologize to my friend who called this so SO much earlier into the series and that he had to listen to me watch this show on lethal amounts of copium. You were right but I knew neither of us wanted you to be.

Now let's get into the meat of it, shall we?

All throughout season 1, Molly's history and relationship with the concept of friends is always treated with complete sincerity and the emotional pause it needs to sink in with the audience that she's been through it. Moving away and leaving friends is why she put so much importance on the "forever home" in the first place because she's had to leave so many people she loved. She had a rocky beginning with Scratch during the early season but quickly became on equal footing with him as they began to understand each other and their boundaries. Because she genuinely cares about him. Similarly, season 2 explores the boundaries of their friendship and shows Scratch more willing to participate in whatever Molly is doing, even begging sometimes to be included. And Molly is very patient and kind with him all throughout trying to help him regain memories of his past. And Scratch actually reciprocated a few times like helping her learn Thai and working with Libby to set her up with Ollie. They're the closest they've ever been and something I can confidently call true best friends, possibly the closest and healthiest friendship I've seen portrayed in media. Season 2 showcases how far either of them are willing to go to help each other.

Then The End happened.

Molly is the same understanding and supportive friend as she had been all season, almost to a fault. She encourages scratch to go back to his life, knowing the risks that come with it. Why did there need to be the risk of forgetting her when his spirit didn't immediately forget his living life? Don't know. Something to do with an unreleased episode although I doubt the rest of season 3 would have sweetened my opinion of this episode. Only she knew he was about to do this, she didn't talk to any of his other friends or family before he went out to Todd's house. They only found out after the fact and the next morning is when he left. None of them had any time to process that they just lost a family member, especially not Molly.

The scene where he's talking to her on the bench breaks my heart. Knowing your friend is no longer there and is replaced with this stranger. So much of this episode would have been fixed to just let him keep his memories. Considering how hard it was to pull his living memories out of his spirit, it's very likely that even the small fragments of her he remembers will slowly fade away. She had to do the one thing she never wanted to do again and repeat the same pain that's plagued her for the entire series. And it sucks! Why doesn't she get a happy ending? Hell, I'm not even convinced this was a "happy ending" for scratch since he can't remember any of the people he just spent the last two years with.

The biggest slap to the face is when Libby, Geoff, and the McGees come up behind Molly and just act like all of this is fine? They're treating scratch like this wild animal that deserved to be released into the wild because he could never fit in with society when he was PERFECTLY HAPPY with the McGees. He proudly displayed to the entire ghost world that he was an "honorary McGee" and told a ghost hunter to his face that him and Molly would do anything for each other despite their differences. Was all of that completely pointless? Because it sure feels that way. He had this entire new "life" he just completely abandoned because oh I guess I'm not really dead. Guess I better go reconnect with my childhood friend I haven't seen in person or had any meaningful conversations with in decades!!! See ya, chumps, hope you weren't attached to me or anything!

It's so disrespectful to the audience's investment in Molly and Scratch's friendship, the themes of friendship overcoming all odds and lasting forever, and Molly as a character. And to a lesser degree, it's even disrespectful to Scratch since most of the season he spent brooding over the fact that he didn't remember his past! Now he's forgotten a large portion of his "life" all over again. Now he's going to have to live with this nagging itch at the back of his mind that he's forgetting something until he manages to completely repress it too. And to rub salt in the wound, the credits don't have near sight nor mention of Molly McGee outside of a painted portrait of her and (spirit) scratch. All this does is tell me a LONG time has passed and neither of them have managed to successfully contact each other. The dream team is gone, this is a story about a girl and a ghost and none of it meant anything.

"he'll remember when he dies again!" Where does it say that

"he didn't forget, he said Moll! That means something!" The longer he spends away from the McGees and Brighton, the more likely he is to completely forget them altogether. The vague memories will eventually fade away and every "forever memory" will be worthless.

"it doesn't matter, this is Scratch's story" then why isn't it called 'scratch and the human girl'? Or 'the scratch show'? Why is Molly a title character if she's nothing but a plot device for his character development.

"Molly had to learn how to say goodbye." No she didn't. She's been doing that her entire life. She's pretty well aware of how to say goodbye. Making her relive 13 years of trauma from the other side of the vehicle doors is not a useful life skill. Pain is not necessary to grow up.

I don't care what the excuse is. This was a terrible ending for both characters and no amount of "he's happy now!" coping from both the fans and the writers is going to get me to see this any other way. If you enjoy the episode, great! I'm happy for you, there's a lot to love in the music and voice acting and breathtaking animation. But none of that could save me from this abysmal attempt at a series finale. I was so viscerally disgusting by this as a finale that I spent a good two days completely nauseous thinking about it. What a disaster. The sad part is I like the story potential! Him reuniting with Adia is what I've wanted for him all season so he could get closure. Molly and Scratch having to say goodbye is heartbreaking but understandable, a lot of shows nowadays end that way and I half expected it. But him completely forgetting the girl he owes his new lease on life to? My gosh it's just a deal breaker. It is such a cruel end for these characters and I cannot wrap my head around why they thought it was a good idea outside of cheap angst.

I wanted to like this episode and I still do. But they just did so much wrong when one thing could change and it would have completely flipped my opinion on the episode and series in general. But what do I know, I'm just a negative nancy.

Anyway idk how to end this off, justice for Molly McGee, Scratch deserved to be called Scratch McGee, kill Todd Mortenson, peace out

countering Nandor being an asshole with 'sometimes Guillermo is also an asshole' is a weird strategy in the first place.

they're in the healthiest version of a master-familiar relationship we've ever seen on the show. they're both capable of fighting back or pulling the plug at any time, and when they do that seriously the other one listens. (do not come at me with bad 'the wellness center' takes, so help me, that place was a walking red flag and Guillermo waited a MONTH.) they've both protected each other when the danger was real.

they both jump at the chance to make the situation about each other, even when literally no one was asking. Guillermo has no real intention of a normal life. Nandor has no real intention of a relationship that isn't with Guillermo. they love having each other's complete fucked up attention. things that would have torpedoed a friendship have them terse for a few weeks (or days or hours) and then they're back at it with no pressure from each other at all, it's just what they're into. 'you're dead to me but oh hey how was your summer?' 'you stole my one chance at real happiness away, but we'll be together again after my nap.'

I don't care who's got a worse personality. one of them could be a literal saint - it'll just make the sex kinkier when they eventually have it. let them cook.

Okay but y'know who would've been the perfect character to use as a secondary foil to Dabi in addition to Shouto being the first instead of Bird Bitch?Momo.Their upbringings are significantly different but not entierly-Momo was abused by her parents with adultification and verbally abused by them in a way that's so normalized that she has no clue of either of those things even happened to her,Dabi was abused by Endeavor in the classic way with constant verbal degragation and physical assaults.And they both had the same motivation and justification behind them:They wanted them to be the perfect child.Momo's abusers in the sense of her becoming the ideal proper 'mature' woman,Dabi's abuser in the sense of the most powerful hero.They parallel eachother in a contrasting way and so do their trauma responses by extension and their dynamic has so much untapped potential that i genuinely think it's one of Horikoshi's dropping the ball moment's that he never had them share a bond or at least pointed out their different similarities

It's shown that despite his lack of care for strangers generally,Dabi looks out for his own.He treats Toga like his little sister because she had a rough childhood due to her quirk too and his best friendship with Jin is so tender and strong that it borderlines on romantic and we all saw what he did and said to Hawks for his ableism motivated murder of him and it's not a coincidence that he's even more brotherly to Toga and unhinged after that event specifically.In addition to their shared history of parental abuse,Momo herself also has a bunch of disorders which unlike with Jin were not intentional-Let's be honest,if Horikoshi had made her autistic,adhd,anxiety and ocd intentionally,i don't even wanna think about how horrifically she would've been treated by both other characters and the narrative-but are too intertwined with her story to remove them and still have her be in-character so it's fun and interesting to think of Momo and Dabi having to interact with eachother due to her being a heroine in training and him a villain who's team's main enemies are friends and mentors

Both of them have also not fully escaped the treatment they got growing up-Momo was given a costume that was blatantly meant to sexualize her and gets put in charge of leading her classmates into war as literal child soldiers,Dabi still dosen't get believed as a victim of his father because he's 'too mean' to count as one.I would love to see stories of them slowly accidentally befriending eachother right after the Bakugou rescue arc and Dabi helping Momo see hero society isn't fair or kind to her either and Momo realizing just how often it is that situations like Dabi's happen-Hell,she helped rescue someone who's the same as Endeavor,only on a smaller scale.I don't think she'd instantly go villain nor that Dabi would force her to but the prelude to the war arc has her getting kicked out by her parents for standing up to them and because they found out she's been doing vigilanteism so she joins him because she knows he's right and because he's treated her better than almost every other adult in her life and in turn,she's made him realize that not every hero is thrown into it willingly and are just hurt kids like he used to be and that they're the real ones.'Creati' becomes 'Destruct' but before this all unfolds,we get Shouto and Momo being closer than ever as the series progresses due to the differences in Momo's plot and Dabi's involvement in it pulling Shouto into their orbits and Todomomo goes from a subtle but potent romance to a constant and in your face 'They're soulmates by choice' type of beat in the best and healthiest way possible

Momo gets to be written as a multidimensional teen girl character with no demonization for being an anti-heroine and not be erased as the second real first friend Shouto made in favor of a lifelong bully who told his number one victim to kill himself and Dabi gets to redeem himself by being the good older brother he never got to be as Touya and entering rehibilitation after the war ends because he refuses to die after getting to save Jin from Hawks so they can live out the rest of their lives together.Breaking the cycle of abuse is a much better story than shonen fuckery bullshit disguised as superhero homages when in reality it's disrespecting the history behind and core of comics

Welcome back to my rambles of what it might look like if Adam and Lilith switched places in Hazbin Hotel!

In my last post, I described how I pictured their dynamic in Eden might have played out in the beginning, and then how the additional presence of Lucifer would affect their relationship.

For this post, I'm simply going to start where I left off! So, for the ease of access, I'll be linking my previous and first post of this series at the end of this post. Just in case you want to check them out or need a quick refresher!

Okay so little recap!

As I said before, their relationship was at its healthiest after they accepted Lucifer offer to act as a buffer for them during sexual intercourse. With him at first simply talking them through it, and then from there he would gradually start to non-invasively touch them- with their consent of course.

He would use these touches to help promote cooperation between the two. So, they would work together towards their shared completion instead of fighting one another for dominance. Although after a while these touches would become more teasing as their relationship expanded. Lucifer not only trying to guide them with his touches but also excite them as well as to satiate his own curiosities.

After all, Lucifer had never laid with another despite knowing of sex. As he never really had the need given the main purpose of such acts were to reproduce which seraphim didn't have to worry about. If they needed more seraphim, they would simply be created.

However, he found himself wanting to have a sexual connection with Lilith and Adam. Not because he wanted to reproduce- obviously, but because it made him feel closer to them. To him it was yet another way he could express his care for them. Besides he also learned firsthand how pleasurable the act could be for all parties involved when done correctly.

Their newfound cooperation in their sex life transferred to other aspects of their life as well. With Adam and Lilith forming a special connection. Now it wasn't the traditional relationship you expect of a husband and wife, but it was undeniably what worked best for them. While Lucifer acted more like a more traditional romantic partner, Adam and Lilith acted more like friends for the most part.

Although they crossed the line of mere friendship a long time ago with them both being sexually involved with one another. However, even 'friends with benefits' wasn't the right term for their relationship. There were too many feelings between them. They had too much of a connection with each other to be just that. After all, they were literally made for each other.

So, while they weren't exactly in love with each other, they did love one another in their own way. Slowly, learning there were other ways to love someone. Lucifer helping them to understand love wasn't a purely romantic concept, it could be platonic or somewhere in between. And so, with experimentation, they slowly but surely found a balance they were comfortable with. The two gradually coming to terms with their relationship.

They accepted it wasn't ever going to be 'normal' and made peace with neither of them being the dominant one. They allowed themselves to actually relax in each other's presence and simply enjoy exploring their expanding relationship. It was a process to figure out their boundaries and expectations for one another, and of course they were setbacks at time. But it paid off with the two of them being able to hang out without needing Lucifer to act as a buffer.

They learned to not only stand one another but enjoy it. One way they spent time together was preforming duets together. With Adam's skill at playing practically any instrument and Lilith's gorgeous singing voice, they were able to produce such sweet melodies together. During one of these times, their eyes would meet, and both would be shocked to see the soft look the other directed their way.

It was the type of look Lucifer would give them when they did something particularly endearing. It was the same look they would also give him at times, but it was never a look they gave one another. Still neither broke eye contact as they carried on with their current song, hardly noticing as they grew closer to one another. Their steps follow the rhythm of their duet with both of them softly swaying to and from each step.

They weren't exactly sure what they were doing- later they would call it dancing. And that would be the first time they actually named something together without arguing.

Regardless, neither one of them were eager to break whatever spell fell over them. So, they continued to dance. Their bodies move harmoniously with one another and yet neither lead the other. They were free to move however they liked with only the beat commanding them to stay in time with one another. Their dancing slowly guides them ever closer as matching smiles light up their faces.

They don't stop moving towards one another until their chest to chest. At one point, Adam's instrument had gone slack in his hand while he sang the last bit of the song with Lilith. His voice wasn't nearly as smooth as the others, but neither seemed to care as their voices were still able to pleasantly melt together. Neither voice overpowering the other as their voices tempered off together signaling the end of the song.

Still neither made a move to step back. Their eyes still locked, blue skies meeting the soft browns of earth. Two very different colors and yet no one could deny they belong together. Neither knows who started to lean in first, but the next moment, their lips brushed softly together. Clumsily melding together in a sweet unhurried manner as they simply appreciated the warmth that ran through them at the contact. And soon their arms would encircle one another in a gentle embrace as they continued to kiss. Not to procreate, not for dominance, simply because they wanted to.

Their kisses would remain innocent while they slowly lowered to the ground with the soft grass cradling their intertwined bodies. It was there they would stay cuddling each other as they continued to exchange kisses until their lips were both pink and puffy. Eventually, they would go back to singing. This time a different melody as they laid side by side, and that's how the rest of their day was spent until Lucifer came back to them.

The seraphim returns from Heaven to the sight of both his beloveds sleeping soundly. Their forms still pressed against one another in a lover's embrace.

There would be other incidents, where Lilith and Adam would spend time alone simply appreciating each other's presence. Although those times were slowly becoming less and less as Lucifer seemed to leave for heaven less. Not that neither of them were complaining! While they both may now be able to actually stand each other without him, that didn't mean they cared for the seraphim any less. He was as much of a part of their relationship as either of them were no matter what anyone else thought.

They didn't care if it wasn't in god's plan for it to be Adam, Lilith, and Lucifer because they decided that's exactly how it was supposed to be in their book...

Any possible consequences of this decision were far from any of their minds. Blinded by their happiness, the three grew careless and slowly heaven grew suspicious. Sera noted Lucifer's absence, and it didn't sit right with her. Naturally, she brought her concerns to the other seraphim and eventually the archangels were also paying closer attention to Lucifer spending more time in Eden. It got to the point, he was there more than he was in heaven, and while they should have been glad he was taking his duties so seriously, no one could deny it was odd.

However, it was Sera who discovered exactly what was keeping Lucifer away. While the others were content to simply wait for Lucifer to return for answers, she was too worried. She just knew something was wrong, and fearing the worst she took it upon herself to use an unauthorized all seeing orb to check on her fellow seraphim. She was in no way expecting the image which greeted her. She had expected to see Lucifer, not Adam or Lilith, and certainly not any of them in such a scandalous position.

In her shocked state she continued watching, hoping that she was wrong. Hoping the situation playing out before her would somehow right itself, but there was no way that anything could fix what she was seeing. The three of them were in the middle of being intimate. There was no point in denying it now, and so once her brain finally caught up with her, she immediately vanquished the orb.

She knew she wasn't meant to watch such sinful behavior, she also knew she had not had permission to use the orb in the first place. However, she couldn't simply just let this continue. So, she rushed off to group up the other seraphim, which led to them going to the archangels. The gathered angels swiftly came to the decision that Sera and two other seraphim would visit Eden immediately. They were to confirm what Sera saw and talk to the three before bringing Lucifer back with them so they could decide on his punishment.

When they arrived at Eden, the three they were looking for had just finished their activity, but still it was easy to see that Sera had indeed seen correctly. The fact that Lucifer was still not fully robed yet, making that as clear as day. However, Sera still gave them a chance to deny the accusation. She secretly hoped they would, but to her growing horror Lucifer did not; Adam and Lilith followed suit.

Instead of any of them expressing even an ounce of guilt over their wrongdoing they argued they had done nothing wrong. They even expressed they all loved one another. That was the final nail on the coffin. Sera had heard enough as well of the other seraphim, they asked Lucifer to come with them and he agreed. Although both of the first humans clearly didn't want him to. Both had even stepped in front of him as if attempting to shield him from the other angel's ire.

These poor souls Sera had thought. Just how much had he tainted them?

Adam and Lilith could do nothing when Lucifer inevitably went with the other seraphim back to Heaven. The two of them holding each other in their shared worry with their other third. Whatever was happening didn't seem good at all. Both of them still felt bitter remembering how Sera had looked at them as if there was something inherently wrong with them both. Although beneath the bitter resentment neither could deny they were also scared.

Would Sera replace them?

She had mentioned it before when they wouldn't procreate. And now that it was clear that she didn't approve of how they solved their initial problem, they were at fear once more that they would be replaced. However, it was out of their hands now so they simply continued to cling to one another as their thoughts turned to their shared worries over what would happen to Lucifer.

Sure neither of them were any more comfortable with the thought of being replaced as they had been, but at least they still had each other for now. Meanwhile the other was all alone in heaven going through who knows what. Guilt and worry were quick to fill their souls.

While up in heaven, Lucifer wasn't feeling much better. However, he was less worried over his impending trial than he was for what would become of Adam and Lilith. He had been the one to propose the idea of getting involved with their love life. He didn't want them to be punished for something he suggested. Even if he was still unsure of what was so wrong with it to begin with. He had done his job and kept them happy.

Was it really so wrong that he had fallen for them along the way? How could something as pure as love be proclaimed as wrong?

He just didn't know.

Unfortunately, he seemed to be one of the minority who felt that way. At his trial, it was clear they had already made their judgment before it began. The angels who mattered were not swayed in the least by his defense. Even as some other angels sitting in on the court meeting voiced their own support over Lucifer.

The fight was lost before it began and he was sentenced to a human lifetime on Earth to reflect on his wrong doings. If he truly repented after his sentence was up then he would be allowed to come back to Heaven but until then he was not allowed in Heaven nor Eden. His wings would also be locked away into his body with him unable to call upon them for aid, and before the day was up, he fell.

The whole process wasn't as painful as one would think. In fact, the angels had been disarmingly gentle. At most he felt discomfort when his wings were bound, he only felt slight pain when he fell even. His landing was softer than it should have been. He expected it was due to whatever little favor and connection he still had with Heaven that kept him from being harmed to the full amount.

However, nothing was able to soothe his worries over what would happen to Adam and Lilith. So, despite everything he began to search for Eden, his sentencing be damned. He would be reunited with them. He promised to watch after them and their happiness, and despite whatever Heaven might think, he was no liar.

Time of heaven and time of Eden didn't exactly correlate so Adam and Lilith spent a whole week not hearing anything from Heaven. Not knowing of what became of Lucifer. At that time, the two barely slept or ate. They were only somewhat functional due to the other worrying over them, and reminding one another they had to stay strong for Lucifer. Although it seemed to be all for not when Sera and a new group of seraphim returned but no Lucifer.

Despite Adam's pride he openly wept knowing exactly what Lucifer's absence implied. He was gone. And while Lilith came to a similar conclusion she would not weep instead she openly glared at the approaching angels while hiding Adam's face in the crook of her neck. However, these angels still had the gall to sadly smile at them as if they were the ones in the wrong. As if they were both just a pair of misbehaving children.

Lilith did not care for the condescension one bit, but didn't speak out as she hushed her husband as best she could. She wasn't the most maternal being but she did her best.

Sera was the first to speak, explaining how everything was fine now. Adam's sadness seemed to transform into rage at her words as the man ripped his face away from Lilith's comforting form to also glare with teary eyes set ablaze. Immediately, asking for what had become of Lucifer, but any attempt for information about the other was shut down. Sera would clearly not divulge anything except that he wouldn't be able to further corrupt them anymore.

It was Lilith's turn to speak as she laughed with cold derision, arguing Lucifer had done no such thing, but Sera simply gave a patient smile. She wouldn't argue with either of them, but it was clear she didn't believe in Lucifer's innocence either.

Instead of further humoring either of them, she moved onto inform them that they had done nothing wrong and would not face any punishment. Explaining how the archangels had agreed it was only due to Lucifer's temptation that they were tricked to stray from god's path. As long as they continued to not partake from the fruit of good and evil they were allowed to stay. Then, she left along with the other seraphim.

Adam and Lilith both should have felt relief, but neither felt anything but cold. Both of them remained to cling to each other, joining together in solemn grief over what the angels had done to their other third.

Just to be clear Lucifer has fallen, but hasn't had the fall yet. Our boy was simply put in Heaven's version of a time out corner, but as we all know he will fall to Hell eventually just not yet.

Next time, I'll explain how Lilith and Adam cope with Lucifer's banishment and I'm hoping to also cover some more characters falling from grace hehe Eve will also probably make appearance in my next rambles too.

So, yeah I'm just about done covering the main points of what happened in Eden in my version of this Au.

Alhaitham ships I like and respect

I realise I typically only post about Kavetham but I actually love a lot of Alhaitham ships (my mans deserves all the love). Here's a list and my reasons for shipping them, because I just got home from uni and I'm bored. These are all ships that I like, the rating is just "how would this realistically go?".

1) Kaveh/Alhaitham

Getting this one out of the way cos <3 we know. I really enjoy their bickering dynamic and they both have very strong personalities, which I adore. That's why I feel the need to be more picky with the fics I read, actually, cos sometimes people write one of them very uncharacteristically just so they don't have to deal with writing two characters with uh *checks notes* personalities lol.

They are both babygirl and they are both Problems. I think their relationship would be undefined but exclusive - neither of them say they're dating, but they've also never sleep around with other people. I kinda like the hc that Kaveh got around a bit more before they met/started their situationship, but I also vibe with the idea that he lied and told Alhaitham he was "oh so experienced" just to one up him.

Rating: 9/10

2) Cyno/Alhaitham

Hehe this one's an oldie but a goodie. So here's the thing: back in 3.1, this was The Sumeru ship. Cynari was also there , definitely, but there was a loud fandom quite obsessed with the enemies to lovers trope. Which! Some people call Kavetham enemies to lovers, wrong, they never had a fistfight; they're just rivals and lovers.

Anyway, Cyno and Alhaitham are a great ship cos we have battle boyfriends with an eventual soft dynamic. I especially love in Act 5 of the archon quest, when they continue to disagree but they're on the same side - Cyno is very against Alhaitham's reckless plan. They have a lot of contrast in their approaches to life, but at this point they have mutual respect for one another that I think could develop beautifully.

The only issue i have with their dynamic is that I struggle to imagine how they would end up together. Maybe after a fight, one of them almost dies and so there's a dramatic kiss?? I don't think Alhaitham would be so romantic tbh, and Cyno is more likely to be very straightforward with a confession, but I think he might not be honest about his feelings in order to focus on Justice™.

Rating: 7/10

3) Dehya/Alhaitham

Yes. I also occasionally like f/m ships. My issue with this one is simply that I ship Dehya with Dunyazarad more, so I think this would be a more one sided crush on Alhaitham's part. I have a hc that he's just, into claymore users. Dehya serves cunt and beats people up and Alhaitham is like "pls come back to the Akademiya, you're so so cool <3".

Maybe I have a crush on Dehya. Maybe that's the issue hm.

I can't see Dehya dating him or Alhaitham really wanting to date her - just a little crush and then a good friendship.

Rating: 10/10 for vibes, 3/10 for practicality

4) Nilou/Alhaitham

Consider: Nilou is cute. Alhaitham is cute. She thinks he's a cool treason-man and he thinks she's the only person as crazy as he is for immediately agreeing to the dangerous plan everyone else took 80% of the run time complaining about.

Would they actually ever date? I think they'd hold hands once, but then figure out very quickly that they have almost nothing in common. Alhaitham would want a more headstrong person to counter his bluntness, and Nilou would find his introversion frustrating in a dating context.

Rating: 4/10

5) Tighnari/Alhaitham

I sort of see this dynamic as the healthiest version of opposites attract on this list. Now, they're both stubborn bastards, however - where I think Alhaitham and Kaveh lose all braincells upon being in the same room, I think Tighnari and Alhaitham maintain their intelligence.

I like the idea that post archon quest they shared an infirmary room in the Birmastan (Alhaitham via head trauma, Tighnari for his untreated lightning strike lol). They both quickly get fed up with their friends' overprotectiveness and kick the likes of Cyno and Kaveh out. They are both Akademiya graduates who've kind of denounced the Akademiya, Tighnari by quitting to become a forest ranger and Alhaitham by phoning in his entire career :')).

So they get to talking since they only really knew each other through Kaveh previously, and then they vibe doing their own thing when they get bored of conversation. I think they'd understand each other pretty well, and Alhaitham would brush off Tighnari's nagging and Tighnari find Alhaitham's abrasiveness endearing, since he's not an idiot.

Rating: 7/10

However, the context I most like them in is -

6) Kaveh/Alhaitham/Cyno/Tighari

I am an 4ggravate girlie. I love a good poly ship and these guys work very well.

Basically just a combination of everything I've already said:

Alhaitham & Kaveh and Cyno & Tighnari are both in situationships. These are open relationships.

Alhaitham and Cyno (who didn't previously know each other well) start seeing one another in a new light when they're stuck in the desert together for a month fighting against the sages. Feelings ensue.

After the drama, Kaveh realises he wants to make the situation with Alhaitham more concrete because he was worried. He also hangs out with Cyno a lot after Alhaitham and Tighnari kick them out of the infirmary.

So many high stakes and the close companionship makes it so they're all sort of on board with trying a poly sitch. Tighnari seems the type to bring it up first, to Cyno and then to Alhaitham and Kaveh.

Cyno likes the idea but worries a bit that Kaveh and Alhaitham's dynamic would get in the way of an actually healthy relationship.

Alhaitham is a bit iffy cos like - free time, introversion etc, but he does think it would be a good idea to test it out.

Kaveh is pretty totally on board cos all his friends are super hot, though he says "I should have tried using a foursome to force Alhaitham out of his shell ages ago" which actually delays the process quite a lot :'))

Rating: 10/10, Alhaitham gets three boyfriends I cannot see any issues

It started off easy

Falling

You didn’t mean to fall in love with her. But really, do you ever mean to fall in love with anyone.

It started off easy. You moved to London and joined Arsenal, went out with your teammates, you settled in nicely except for one (oh so little) detail. You quickly realized you’d fall for her. You didn’t know what made her so special. Yes, she was funny, talented, beautiful… but so were lots of your teammates and you didn’t fall for them. But unlike some of those teammates, Leah wasn’t single. Or at least, you thought she wasn’t. You didn’t know, want to know or dare to ask, what was going on between her and Jordan. But you were sure they had some unfinished business, and you would certainly not meddle into it. You’d end up hurt. Again. And you swore yourself it wouldn’t happen. You changed club and city to face new challenges, to start over and nothing was going to ruin this.

Unfortunately, before you unquestionably and miserably fell in love with her, you got close. Your friendship was so quick to bloom. You moved to London, blinked, and without even realizing it, you were attached to the hip. You had known each other for a couple of weeks, but it felt like you had spent all your life together. You had a connection, that neither of you could explain.

It started off easy… so easy, with inside jokes, plans after practice and on rest days. It went exactly like that sentence from that book: I fell in love like you fall asleep, slowly, and then all at once.

You cached yourself staring at her and smiling every time she was smiling. But every time you caught yourself staring, your chest got tighter, your breath got shorter. Soon, the good kind of butterflies turned into the bad kind, as you realized what was happening. It felt like someone, personification of the guilt you were feeling, was sitting on your chest. You had been there before, falling way too fast for someone who would never reciprocate your feelings. And you had promised yourself it wouldn’t happen again. But wanting and doing are two very different things, and you knew that too well.

Knowing

You didn’t know why you fell in love so easily because you didn’t need to be with someone. You’d always been a loner and more importantly, you didn’t understand how the pains of love could be so underestimated.

It had always disturbed you to not hear more people talking about the pain that is falling in love. When you were a child, falling in love sounded like a dream, you’d meet someone and the fairytale would begin. As a teenager, love had started to scare you. How did people let themselves be vulnerable around each other? At sixteen you had decided it would never happen to you. You wouldn’t let yourself. Soon after you met your first girlfriend, and that plan fell over. It had been so easy to fall for her, to be with her, that you laughed at how scared you used to be. You had stayed together three years, and she had left you broken-hearted. Every relationship or semblance of relationships since then had left you more and more allergic to love. Since then, being vulnerable was a big no for you. You realized it might not be the healthiest thing, but at least, you were conscious of it (and realizing the problem is half the solution).

After a couple of months at Arsenal, you knew three things for sure: 1) You were utterly in love with Leah, 2) She would never reciprocate those feelings 3) You were fucked.

After all, what choice did you have, rejection or regret. You had faced rejection in the past, it had left you with a terrible after-taste and a broken friendship. ; regret seemed a lot easier. So you kept it inside. You even went on a couple of dates with other girls, just to make sure your teammates wouldn’t guess anything.

Hurting

The lingering filling was what kept your heart burning. The thought of her knowing was what kept you mindful of your actions.

You weren’t sure (and you would never dare ask) but you had a feeling she knew. Even if you were careful, she had caught you staring a few too many times. So maybe she knew and maybe, she let you down slowly. There were a few occasions, she would be sitting next to Jordan, or laughing at something the girl had just said, your eyes would meet, and you would see pity in hers.

You tried to distance yourself, slightly. You didn’t want to raise any questions, but you still needed time for yourself, to think about something else, to think about anything else. So you went back home to spent time with your family and friends. There, you could distract yourself with your life from before, before football and before Leah. You could enjoy your mother’s cooking and your friends, and you could think. You spent hours in your head, overthinking.

You knew it wasn’t you. It wasn’t about you. Someday, you might find someone who would take your down walls and make you see being vulnerable isn’t that scary. But it wasn’t now and it was Leah. Right now you just had an unbearable ache in your chest, that made it hard to breathe.

It started off easy and hit you hard.
