I was gone for a while because over the course of 4 or so months (since eurovision songs had been being released) I was doing this! I tried to make all the designs last time in 2022 but uh. It was really disorganized and I didn’t get through them all XP. So i tried to streamline the process and it worked!!! It took a LOT of my time out of my usual day but it was fun!!! I love lil design challenges like this!!!!!!

Okay, I know I've literally never talked about Supernatural before on this blog but I actually am a massive fan of the series. I could honestly run an entire separate blog about it. Anyway I rediscovered Milo Greene's song "What's the Matter" earlier and it got me thinking about the episode Bitten.

People have eased up on this episode in recent years but overall the general opinion is still pretty negative, which I think is sad since this is probably one of my personal favorites. Keep in mind it's been a couple years since I've rewatched the show, so I'm running mostly on memory here.

First things first, I think it helps keep the series connected to its roots. After season 5, they kept trying to one up themselves in terms of stakes, ultimately leading to such events as "Satan's son's birth opens the multiverse". And we were sitting in the aftermath of Dick and the Leviathans™ where the show was heading back on its stride, so it feels really nice to just remind us where we began. Saving people, hunting things.

Second, it actually does a lot for the worldbuilding. We get to actually see the perspective of both the people being saved and the things to be hunted, all while they have to grapple with it. While they may not be the most compelling, it was really important we got to see the evolution of these friends, a view into the mundane yet interesting history of these regular people's lives. That way it really hits when things go to shit, you (or at least me) genuinely wish things could have gone differently for them. These people had dreams and goals, loved ones, and now two of them are dead and the other is on the run. All that and they still manage to convey it in a way that feels mostly organic.

On top of that, we get a particularly interesting glimpse into how Sam and Dean look from the perspective of strangers, including some interesting character details. Their shenanigans, their work. We really never get to see people who recognize them from other things (like don't they technically still have warrants for their arrest?) so I thought it was cool how the characters pick up on that.

The found footage aspect is usually hated by people, but I thought it was a really cool way to see it unfold. Cause remember, they could have easily just given us an episode from someone else's POV. But instead, we experience it as the brothers experience it. Context for certain things is missing, there are time jumps and finally it ends with a message directly for them both.

It makes sense that they would film what they do too (for the most part). We see that these are people who record fun and mundane things just for the hell of it, so of course they would record one of the most strange and harrowing events of their lives. In an era where people record strangers for internet points, it's honestly refreshing to see people record mostly just for the sake of capturing memories or entertainment for themselves.

I know a lot of people like it, but it holds a special place in my heart. When I think of the heart of the show, I don't think about the world ending or the multiverse or any of that, I think of stuff like this. Things that really stick in your mind.

And also that song fucks.

Kotetsu asking Karina for books on Physical therapy despite Definitely having been through it Many times himself implying that Kotetsu never looked into ways to improve physical therapy when He was the one doing it. 

But his presentation of Music to improve Bunny’s recovery the next episode implies that he Did do the readings and has been looking up what he can for Bunny’s sake. (Even though it makes him seem like a worried parent)

It also further implies that while Tomoe was sick Kotetsu probably read up on all the treatments (although he couldn’t really understand the medical stuff) and the side effects and how people deal with them. Kotetsu with his arms full of palliative care products and taking them out and explaining what all of them do and when to use them and how they’re gonna get through this just fine.

‘Worried dad.’ Like that’s not just a manifestation of Kotetsu silently SCREAMING for his loved ones to give him a chance to preform his main love language. (Acts of service) Because he can Feel them hurting and Needs to make it better. Somehow. Even just a little.

‘Worried dad’ Barnaby says. Cause that’s the context he knows Kotetsu’s fretting worry the best. Directed at Kaede. Because that’s the only context Barnaby has, of a worried parent or caretaker. Just. Goddamnit. Kotetsu is trying so hard to express his love and affection and it is just not Barnaby’s language. Barnaby barely knows Any love language aside from ‘i’ve got your back’ and ‘well SOMEONE has to take care of you!’ because of his childhood.

But Kotetsu? He speaks that language fluently. That was him and Tomoe’s love language too. ‘You’ll find them and you’ll both just know.’ He’s found his person and he’s Hearing love in the language he knows and now every time he reaches out his hand it keeps getting smacked away - No I have Plans - but Hey hey i love you. You could hear Ram's voice screaming from your bedroom window, but from his intonation, you knew he must be madly drunk. You didn't know if the friendship between him and your twin brother was right or wrong.

Because even though Ram was good people and Kurt loved him like a brother, when he was around you, he was just an idiot.

"(Y\N), I know you can hear me, kitten, come down!"

You put the pillow in your face, to muffle the sound, but it didn't work, of course, because he was drunk and screaming loudly like he was crazy, it wasn't going to work at all.

Fuck, Ram, you thought.

"HURRY UP, (Y\N), I DON'T HAVE ALL DAY!"

"Get out, Ram…", you said, still screaming from the bed, making no effort to go to the window.

"Oh, you're listening to me!" he suddenly shouted in celebration. "Fine, sweetie, so you can come down to see me, won't you?"

"Ram, I said GET OUT!" you yelled again, burying your head in the pillow. "You're drunk, man, God!"

"No, I'm not," he chuckled. "Okay, maybe I overdosed, but I assure you I'm sober enough to talk to you, kitten, come down soon, go…"

You ignored him.

"Oh ok, so are you going to play with me?", Ram laughed. "Okay, if that's how you want it, then this is how it goes," he cleared his throat. "Let's agree, I'll sing for you, with all my heart, and in the end, if you like it, you come down."

You rolled your eyes and waited, avoiding putting your head out the window to give him any attention. Within minutes, Ram cleared his throat again and began to sing, in a high, husky voice that betrayed how much he'd been drinking.

"You make my balls so blue…"

You had to contain your laughter. As he continued the song, you expected something to happen and send him far away from your window, but you made no effort.

"Just for a while… Can't wait till later, my pants are rubbing like a hot cheese gra-"

"WILL YOU SHUT UP, MAN? THERE ARE PEOPLE TRYING TO SLEEP HERE!"

You didn't know where your twin Kurt's voice had come from, let alone where he'd gotten a bucket of water, but you did catch the moment when he threw the water like a waterfall out the window and realized he'd hit right on Ram.

"Wow, did you hear that, kitten? Looks like something got really wet in here, huh?"

"GET OUT OF MY HOUSE, SUCKER!" Kurt yelled, threatening to jump out the window. "AND YOU'LL SERENADE ANYONE ELSE'S SISTER BUT MINE!" he yelled, still nervous. "PREFERABLY WITH A SONG OTHER THAN OUR SONG, DICKHEAD!"

You laughed, watching Ram walk out wet and staggering down the street, and after he left, you hugged Kurt and thanked him for making your day better with that little moment. He didn't know how to reciprocate, so he just nodded.

"Did you knew he liked me?", you asked, now curious.

"What does it matter?" Kurt snapped. "Like it or not, this little shit is going to stay the hell away from my little sister from now on, right, twin?"

The two of you gave a high five and were about to leave the room when you started humming Ram's song. Kurt turned toward you and threatened to throw the empty bucket at you, causing another burst of laughter until your stomach really hurt.
