🤬🇭🇹😤 @we_are_haitianss . DEL RIO, Texas — A week after Haitian migrant Junior Desterville, 30, and his family had made it all the way from Chile to the burgeoning migrant camp here on the U.S. banks of the Rio Grande, the shaggy-haired mechanic set back out to the Mexican side early Sunday to buy food for his hungry wife and 4-year-old daughter, Nayalla. By noon, Desterville, dressed in a blue T-shirt and black shorts, had waded back north through the chest-high water to return successfully from Ciudad Acuña as Mexican police and Texas state troopers sought to block ongoing river crossings by hundreds of incoming migrants. Making his way past a crowd of hundreds and up dirt trails along the riverbank that reeked of human waste, he found his wife, Stephanie, in one of the scores of huts that migrants have built from the carrizo cane lining the waters. They have slept on the dirt inside the hut since making their way to this hot, chaotic camp of an estimated 14,000 migrants after a three-month slog, mainly by bus, through Chile, Central America and Mexico. Desterville said he can’t imagine returning to Haiti. “We don’t have a president or security,” he said, referring to the recent assassination of President Jovenel Moïse and devastating earthquake. “Let us get out of here,” said Stephanie, 24. “We’re hungry.” Source @latimes 📸 @gettyimages _____________________ WAH STAFF: @wensly7 __________________________________________________ FOLLOW Our Travel Agency’s Page 🛄 “ @wenstravelagency “ We Look Forward To Helping Your Dream Travel Experience Come True ✈️ __________________________________________________ 🇭🇹 🌴 This is Haiti 🇭🇹 🌴 🇭🇹We are Haitians 🇭🇹 #wah509 #wearehaitians #haiti #teamhaiti #ayiti #haitians #haïti #haitian #thisishaiti #proudhaitian #beautiful #team509 #nouseayisyen #HaitiExperienceIt #CaribbeanCulture #traveltohaiti #VisitHaiti #Caribbean #🇭🇹 #Paradise #🌴 #haitidiscovery #shareyourhaiti #Zoes #immigrants #migrants #haitianimmigrants (at Del Rio, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUDXZNkrDmY/?utm_medium=tumblr
A massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Saturday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said, raising fears of destruction similar to the devastating 2010 quake that shattered the country. At least 304 people have died and more than 1,800 were injured, according to Haiti's civil protection service. The USGS predicts the death toll could reach into the thousands. "It looks like it's really bad," USGS geophysicist Paul Caruso told NPR. "There could be a lot of casualties." Caruso said Saturday's quake is on par with the 2010 quake because of its similar magnitude and because it occurred along the same fault line. A 7.0-magnitude quake hit Haiti on Jan. 12, 2010, leaving an estimated 220,000 dead, some 1.5 million people displaced and about 300,000 injured. Ariel Henry, Haiti's new prime minister, in a translated tweet extended his sympathies "to the parents of the victims of this violent earthquake which caused several losses of human and material lives in several geographical departments of the country." Henry said he will declare a state of emergency for one month as the country assesses the damage from the disaster and sends teams to the area for search and rescue missions. —Dalia Faheid, NPR Follow @inkagnedotv . . . . . #ayiticheri #blackexcellence #growinguphaitian #haitianculture #haitianflagday #haitianqueen #haitians #haïti #lunionfaitlaforce #lunionsuite #madeinhaiti #prayforhaiti #sakpase #teamhaiti #thisishaiti #welcometohaiti #beautycare #beautifuldestinations #haitianbeauty #haiti #haitiangirl #prayforhaititeam #haitianproud #prayforhaitians https://www.instagram.com/p/CSmZayqHa1u/?utm_medium=tumblr

🇭🇹😤🤬 @we_are_haitianss . #MustRead 😲WHEN news first broke last Saturday that a group of 17 missionaries had been kidnapped in Haiti, few details were provided about the group that sent them into the country. But now its been revealed that Christian Aid Missionaries, CAM, based in Ohio, became mired in a sex abuse scandal in 2019 after one of its employees, Jeriah Mast, above, was indicted in the US on seven felony charges of gross sexual imposition and seven misdemeanor charges of sexual imposition involving children. Worse, according to NBC News, two of his managers knew “for years” that he had a history of sexual offences against minors but still allowed him to serve their organisation as a missionary in Haiti. Those crimes, which according to court documents allegedly involved children under the ages of 16 and some under 13, took place in Ohio between 1998 and 2008. Mast, now serving a nine-year-sentence, also faced allegations of sexually abusing minors during his time serving Christian Aid Ministries in Haiti. At the time Christian Aid Ministries’ board of directors wrote in statement dated July 9, 2019: It is already well known that our former employee, Jeriah Mast, has confessed to molesting boys while working for our organization in Haiti. The same letter said that two CAM managers had known about Mast’s behavior since 2013, when he confessed to Christian Aid Ministries staff to “sexual activity” with boys under the age of 18 “that had taken place several years prior in Haiti.” Source: patheos.com _____________________ WAH STAFF: @wensly7 __________________________________________________ FOLLOW Our Travel Agency’s Page 🛄 “ @wenstravelagency “ We Look Forward To Helping Your Dream Travel Experience Come True ✈️ __________________________________________________ 🇭🇹 🌴 This is Haiti 🇭🇹 🌴 🇭🇹We are Haitians 🇭🇹 #wah509 #wearehaitians #haiti #teamhaiti #ayiti #haitians #haïti #haitian #thisishaiti #proudhaitian #beautiful #team509 #nouseayisyen #HaitiExperienceIt #CaribbeanCulture #traveltohaiti #VisitHaiti #Caribbean #🇭🇹 #Paradise #🌴 #haitidiscovery #shareyourhaiti #Zoes (at AYITI) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVnZXxGLZCX/?utm_medium=tumblr
