Heh, me, an Irish-American, when someone in the group doesn’t buy a round of drinks XD Anyway, had to do some research on things that are cringey in Italian culture, but here we go. Let’s get into it!
You and Donna are madly in love.
You are so kind and affectionate. When you hold her in your arms, she feels safe with you.
The two of you are very physically intimate and you adore when she lets you lie your head in her lap so she can play with your hair.
Donna often jokes that you are much like a big and lovable pet.
You don’t mind. As long as she is taken care of and safe you are happy.
But, there is one small issue that keeps popping up: Your American tendencies. Donna is Italian through and through, and she can’t help but cringe every time you commit a cultural faux pas by accident. She is always kind when she corrects you, but her inner Italian is flaring up on the inside.
One evening, Donna makes you a big, home-cooked Italian dinner. She had spent hours in the kitchen, carefully preparing all of her family’s traditional recipes. But, right before you two sit down to eat, you run into the kitchen to grab something.
Donna quirks an eyebrow at you as you get back to the table. “What did you go get, cara mia?” She asks and begins helping your plate with frutti de mare (Kind of like spaghetti, but full of different types of seafood).
You gesture with a grin to a block of Parmesan cheese and a grater. You begin to sprinkle it all over your pasta.
Donna gasps. “No, no, no!” She exclaims. “You can’t put Parmesan cheese on seafood pasta!”
You look confused. “Really? I thought Parmesan was good on everything.” You say, furrowing your brow in complete confusion.
Donna sighs. “Americans,” She mutters under her breath.
You don’t hear this comment, though. You take a bite and your eyes roll back in pleasure. “Hey, can I have some more sauce on top? It’s so good!” You ask her.
Donna feels her eye beginning to twitch. She has sauced the noodles perfectly. She tries not to take it as an insult and stuffs her frustration down. She clears her throat and takes a deep breath to calm herself. “Y/N, you should never ask for more sauce… It’s kind of rude to the person who made the food in Italian culture.” She explains gently.
Your eyebrows shoot up at this. “Whoa, I’m sorry, babe! I just think it tastes so good! I didn’t mean to-”
Donna feels her annoyance melt away. She giggles at your embarrassment and pinches your cheek. “It’s okay, tesoro. I’m glad you like it.” She tells you. She knows you didn’t mean any harm… But she just came really close to cussing you out.
As the night goes on, you continue to make innocent mistakes, such as using a knife to eat your spaghetti and meatballs or asking for a cappuccino after dinner.
Donna laughs at your sweet naivety, but she also can’t shake the feeling that you are somehow disrespecting Italy itself. You’re a work in progress, but she’ll get you brought up to speed on Italian customs one way or another.
Despite the cultural differences, Donna loves you more than anything. She decides to embrace your American quirks and even starts incorporating some of your favorite dishes into her meals. You’re delighted to see your favorite comfort foods alongside Donna’s traditional Italian fare.
In the end, Donna understands that love knows no cultural boundaries. As long as you’re happy and treat her with love and respect, she is willing to overlook your occasional cultural missteps.

Went to a Japanese pasta place that serves something called Spaghetti Italian! From the bottom up: hot cast iron skillet, omelet, and spaghetti napolitan (ketchup and butter sauce) with bell peppers, bits of hot dog, and sliced onion, all topped a big handful of unmelted shredded cheese.
So, uhh, very traditional rustic Italian fare. It definitely made an impression. I asked my husband (who, over the last 17 years with me and 14 years in Japan, has been made to eat a lot of spaghetti, a lot of Japanese spaghetti, and a lot of Japanese spaghetti napolitan) for his thoughts, and he paused for a long time before finally sighing and saying it was just too weird to describe. Probably I’ll have to try it myself eventually.

January 23rd is National Pie day, what's your favourite pie?
Is it the traditional New Years day fare, of a muckle steak pie, or the humble Scotch Pie filled with mutton? It could also be a macaroni pie, possibly a favourite with the vegetarians Scots out there. Or maybe you have sought out the Breakfast pie that I posted about previously is made by Table 13 Express takeaway deli in Kirkintilloch. The Haggis and Steak Pie by Bells is also up there, although I preferred the haggis mash and beans pies we used to get from our local bakers growing up in my hometown of Loanhead.
Perhaps the most famous of our pies here in Scotland is the award winning Killie Pie made by Brownings Bakery in the town since 1945.
Just last week Scotlans best pie was announced at The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards, with a beloved Perth and Kinross butcher taking home the top prize at the ceremony. More than 50 bakeries and butchers from around Scotland were shortlisted in a range of categories, with their bakes assessed anonymously by a panel of experts and independent judges.
This year, the top World Champion prize was given to James Pirie & Son of Blairgowrie, who previously won the competition in 2018, 2020, and 2022, as well as taking the title of World Scotch Pie Champion of Champions in 2021 with their iconic Scotch Pie.
Elsewhere, fellow winners included James Aitken Butchers in Alloa, The Little Bakery in Dumfries, and Beefcake Cafe in Glasgow, who took home prizes in the Sausage Roll, Bridie, and Vegetarian Savoury categories respectively. Among the other categories were Steak Pie and Haggis Savoury, which were awarded to Brownings the Bakers Ltd in Kilmarnock and WeeCOOK in Carnoustie.
Here's a recipe for the Scotch Pie, although they will differ from source to source.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
Four 4-inch springform cake pans (or equivalent)
Rolling pin
Small skillet
Knife to cut onion
Saucepan/s
Measuring cups, spoons
Kitchen scale (optional)
Mixing Bowls and spoons
Pastry Brush (for egg wash)
Stove and Oven (obviously)
INGREDIENTS
Hot Water Pastry Crust
2 cups flour (240 grams)
1/2 cup lard or shortening
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg yolk, beaten (for egg wash)
Meat Filling
1 small onion, chopped fine
1 – 2 teaspoons lard, butter, or shortening
1 pound lean ground beef
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon mace
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon Italian spice (optional)
Quick Beef Gravy
1 14 oz. can low sodium chicken broth
2 cubes beef bouillon
1/4 cup cold water
2 tablespoons corn starch
2 tablespoons corn starch
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350° F or 177° C. Grease four 4 inch springform pans and set aside.
Put flour in a medium mixing bowl and create a well in the center.
Place water, salt, and lard in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Carefully pour hot water and lard into well made in the flour. Mix with a spoon until all the flour is wet.
When the flour mixture is cool enough to handle. Knead just enough to mix completely. Set aside one fourth of the dough and divide the remaining dough into four balls.
2 tablespoons corn starch
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350° F or 177° C. Grease four 4 inch springform pans and set aside.
Put flour in a medium mixing bowl and create a well in the center.
Place water, salt, and lard in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Carefully pour hot water and lard into well made in the flour. Mix with a spoon until all the flour is wet.
When the flour mixture is cool enough to handle. Knead just enough to mix completely. Set aside one fourth of the dough and divide the remaining dough into four balls.
Place all of the dough in the refrigerator while sautéing the onions and preparing the meat mixture.
Sauté the chopped onion in 1 to 2 teaspoons of lard, butter, or shortening, until soft.
Thoroughly mix ground beef, onion, and spices, including salt and pepper, in a bowl and set aside.
Remove dough from the refrigerator and roll each of the four big dough balls into round shapes big enough to cover the bottom and up the sides of the springform pans stopping about 1/4 inch or 6 mm from the top of the pan.
Roll out the large piece of dough, (the fourth you cut off from the whole dough mass in the beginning), into one large shape a little thinner than the bottom shells. Using one of the springform pans, cut four circles out of the rolled dough. These will be the lids (top crusts) of your pies. Lay them flat and cut a small hole in the center of each lid.
Add one fourth of the meat mixture to each pastry lined pan. Filling to about 1/4 inch or 6 mm from the top of the dough. Be sure to push it down into the corner round the bottom of the pan.
Cover the pie with the pastry lids and press the edges of the lid dough into the shell dough to seal. You may crimp with your fingers or press with a fork to make them pretty or just leave them plain. Just make sure the tops and sides are sealed together.
Brush each lid with the beaten egg yolk and place the pies in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes. You can stick a meat thermometer into the lid hole to ensure the meat is cooked through. It should be 160° F or 71° C.
While the pies are in the oven, make the quick gravy. Put the chicken broth in a saucepan along with two beef bouillon cubes and bring to a boil. Mix 2 tablespoons of corn starch into 1/4 cup cold water and stir until smooth. Slowly, add the corn starch mixture to the broth while stirring. Turn down the heat to a simmer and allow the gravy to thicken, stirring occasionally.
Remove the pies from the oven and allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before removing springforms. Serve with gravy, potatoes, and vegetables, top with beans, or, just eat them on the go.
NOTES
If you want to put a tablespoon of gravy inside each pie before baking them, just make the gravy before assembling the pies.
Scotch pies will last 3 days in the refrigerator and can be frozen after they have cooled for an hour. They will taste best if eaten within two to three months of freezing. Once you have thawed the pies, don’t refreeze them.

MC and Sebastian have a romantic date (or a business snag as you prefer) and ask Eleazar to babysit little Miriam for a few hours and just then Miriam decides to develop accidental magic (shooting fire from her mouth etc. )

Fig waved goodbye from his doorstep, also grabbing little Miriam's hand to wave goodbye to her parents. The young couple had the privilege to be invited to a gala celebrating something or other at the Ministry, or like Sebastian liked to explain it "to suffer through a night of schmoozing and networking".
Well, if EmSea wanted to become Minister she had to schmooze and network as much as possible. And Ominis would be there to help them. Fig wasn't too worried about his girl's ambitions.
"How about we have some dinner and then we listen to music while we do our homework?"
Miriam was only five years old, way too young to go to Hogwarts, but with parents like hers, she had been introduced to magical and muggle culture and history from the moment she was born. Sebastian, mainly, loved to read to her and he taught her how to read in record time. EmSea, on her part, liked to stroll in muggle London, taking her daughter with her so she could understand muggles were as human as wizarkin. So far, it seemed like the little girl loved all the muggle items she saw in her walks, but also all the old traditions wizards practice.
And she was already showing signs of powerful magic.
Fig never saw any of this, but according to Sebastian and EmSea, little Miriam was proficient at the summoning charm. There was nowhere in their house where they could hide the cookies or candy. Miriam always found them or summoned them from their places to her little hands.
At least she hadn't shown any ancient magic yet. Fig didn't know for sure how EmSea grew up or how dangerous her accidental magic was, but he hoped little Miriam didn't face the same obstacles as her mom did.
Miriam wouldn't have to hide her magic, bury it so deep it only came out under duress at her almost fifteen years old... No. Fig, along with Sebastian, EmSea, and Ominis (who has been an excellent godfather so far) would make sure Miriam grew up loved and safe and developing her magic to her full potential.
So, thinking about the books he read about kids' healthy development, Fig played some classic music that was supposed to help with attention and mind awareness.
"I like that," Miriam babbled, dutifully coloring the book her father left her with. "It's... relaxing," she giggled, laying her head on top of the book.
Fig smirked, glad the child liked it. He sat on his sofa with the new year's lesson plan and focused on correcting it. His apprentice was good but still needed some corrections here and there, specifically when organizing the topics from general to specific.
He wasn't sure how much time went by, but suddenly he realized Miriam had been way too quiet for a little five-year-old. He peeked over his papers and froze when he saw her missing.
"Shoot," he jumped to his feet, trying not to panic. "Ok, ok, it's ok. The wards won't let her go out, she has to be here," he looked around. The flat wasn't too big: a kitchen, a dining space, the living space he was currently standing in, two bedrooms, and one bathroom. "Miriam?" He called. "Where are you, you little snidget?"
Nothing.
Then.
Giggles echoed around him, sending shivers down his spine and making him look around with anxiety.
"I knew EmSea was a demon but why did she have a demon baby?" He muttered, then walked to the hallway that led to EmSea's old room. "Miriam?"
Something popped behind him, making him flinch and turn with his wand in hand.
There was nothing there.
Another 'pop'. Then another. And another. Surrounding him.
"Oh my dear Merlin, Miriam, are you apparating!?" He cried. "That's. that's dangerous, dear! Just- Hey! Who wants a cookie?"
Pop!
Miriam apparated right into his arms. He grunted and caught her before she could fall.
"I like cookies, gran'pa," Miriam grinned innocently.
"Yeah, ok," Fig sighed, tightening his hold on her. "But no more apparating. And your mom said only one before going to bed."
Miriam frowned but kept quiet as Fig took her to the kitchen. Her wide brown eyes observed as he opened the cupboard over the sink and revealed the full jar of cookies. He grabbed only one.
"Here, let's go back to sitting, shall we?"
Miriam munched on her cookie, but her eyes were glued to the cupboard.
Suddenly, it caught on fire.
"Fuck!" Fig shouted, placing Miriam on the floor. "Shit. No- Don't- Don't repeat those words, ok darling?" Then he ran back to the kitchen, trying to stop the fire with a couple of spells.
When the fire died out, he turned to make sure Miriam wasn't injured.
He found her munching on more cookies, jar safely guarded between her legs.
"This is going be a long night, isn't it?"
Miriam giggled.
Then floated.
The music didn't sound so relaxing anymore.

As leaders of the Sabbat, Clan Lasombra is comprised of Social Darwinist predators who believe themselves, and no other clan fits enough to rule the night. The traditions of the clan have not wavered at all going into modern nights, even as the Sabbat is bent to their will.
The members of this clan tend to be the most loyal and aggressive vampires in the entire Sect. Their unchallenged success in combating methodically all vampires who are not part of the Sabbat only adds more prestige to these cainites.
​Disciplines: Potence, Dominate, Obtenebration
Weaknesses: Lasombra's body is no longer mirrored by reflective surfaces. Mirrors, pools of water, metals, glass, mercury; none of these reflect the Lasombras' image.
Appearance: Lasombra's vampires commonly show Spanish and Italian people's physical traits. For the most part, they have a Mediterranean complexion, with black eyes and hair. Their refined fashion choices often reflect 16th-century Spain's high ideals of nobleza.

Formaggio: Ravnos

Among Ravnos honor is very important, they do not deceive or rob each other and feel obliged to take revenge if their "good name" is besmirched. They also place great value on friendship and will always help those whom they consider their "brothers"
Clan Disciplines: Animalism, Chimerstry, Fortitude
Weaknesses: A turbulent history makes the Ravnos slaves to their vices. Each Ravnos has a penchant for some sort of vice, such as lying, cruelty, or theft.
Appearance: Today, Given that the Clan is widely spread and holds no traditional central domain, no consistent look can be said to be predominant. However, Young Ravnos often come from Eastern European Romani stock, with a relative paucity of “non-gypsy” gadje in the ranks. What few elders of the Clan may remain are presumed to come from Indian or Middle Eastern origins.

Clan Tzimisce is a Clan of extremes, and long, cold nights spent in remote castles have turned the Fiends’ perspectives both greatly inward and outward.
Mystics of the Clan study a philosophy of metamorphosis, seeking to discover what lies beyond the state of vampirism. An alien attitude of spiritual secularism characterizes many Tzimisce.
Tzimisce are among the most formal vampires, who highly value culture and etiquette. For many centuries they have been the most cultured among all the Cainites.   
These vampires are excellent scholars, successfully engaged in the study of both the magical and the scientific field. This Clan does not consider itself as 'cursed', but a superior form of life.
Clan Disciplines: Animalism, Dominate, Vicissitude
Weaknesses: The Tzimisce are inextricably tied to their domains of origin, and must rest in the proximity of at least two handfuls of "native soil".
Appearance: Given their ability to manipulate their physical appearance with Vicissitude, Tzimisce look however they want, and they often want to provoke or frighten. Some prefer extreme modifications and experimentations with their bodies that leave them looking only vaguely humanoid. Others seek to redefine and even transcend the limits of their forms, rebuilding themselves in the images of angels, monsters, nightmares, and things even less recognizable.
Prosciutto: Giovanni

Achieving prominence during the Venetian Renaissance, the Giovanni family built their fortune on the rise of the middle class and the ready profit of banking and Mediterranean trade (and the criminal enterprise that came with it). However, with the family’s rise came hubris, as its paterfamilias sought ever more power, and with that hubris came horror. With his earthly power at its apex, Augustus Giovanni turned to the arts of controlling the dead, and in doing so, gained the Embrace from a forgotten Antediluvian.
With a conclave of conspirators, the Giovanni plunged a now-forgotten Clan into oblivion and built their own legacy on its corpse.
Since those first nights, the Giovanni have accepted no limits on their ambitions, despite opposition from Kindred outside their Clan and a well-deserved reputation as “Devil Kindred.”
Giovanni studied forbidden arts, becoming formidable in the nigrimancy that allowed them power over the spirits of the departed, and degeneracy followed in the wake of unclean ritual. To this night, the Giovanni are known for the insular nature of their Clan and the incestuous practices by which they populate it.
In public view, the Giovanni make a great show of humility and respect. Part of this gentility is a habit of centuries, still in place from when the other Clans hunted the usurping Necromancers.
To hear the Giovanni tell it, Princes and Archbishops alike owe them favors, and anyone with something to offer may earn their patronage.
Clan Disciplines: Dominate, Necromancy, Potence
Weaknesses: The Kiss of a Giovanni vampire causes excruciating pain in mortal vessels who receive it. If the Giovanni isn’t careful, her vessel may die of shock and agony before being wholly exsanguinated. When a Giovanni feeds upon a mortal, she does twice as much damage as the Kiss of another vampire would inflict.
Appearance: Outwardly, Giovanni dress with subtlety and taste. Much of the Clan comes from the original mortal family, and have not only olive Italian complexions, but some amount of inherited family features. Those outside the immediate family often appear “of a type,” and in the traditional garb of their regional family branch.
Pesci: Nosferatu

Clan Nosferatu are warped by the Embrace into hideous monsters. As such, they skulk and keep to the shadows, and they often rouse the ire and mockery of other Kindred for their nightmarish appearances. Still others are so terrified or revolted by the Nosferatu that these warped Kindred have little social interaction at all.
To their credit, the Nosferatu come to possess many of the whispered secrets of their reluctant fellows.
On the whole, the Nosferatu condition is lonely and alienating. How they react to the Curse of Caine varies with their outlook and mental stamina, but it’s hard to be an object of utter revulsion and not let it shape one’s disposition toward one’s “Kindred” in some way.
Clan Disciplines: Animalism, Obfuscate, Potence

Appearance: Physical horror is the lot of the Nosferatu, and their unsettling deformations are countless. No two Nosferatu share the exact same malformation, and the Clan is a freakshow of snarled limbs, fanged protrusions, hellish countenances, serpentine spines, ruined faces, spasmodic appendages, and even features not usually seen on the mortal stock from which the Nosferatu are drawn. The Sewer Rats often hide these disfigurements under shapeless robes and rags, but some exult in the discomfort their presence causes, and don’t bother disguising them. They may even emphasize them.

The Kindred of Clan Toreador often involve themselves greatly in the world of mortals. They have any number of reasons, whether enjoying proximity to the blush of life, cultivating veritable cults of doting followers, or influencing and following the trends that their own kind simultaneously mock and venerate. To hear the Toreador tell it, they are the Muses of a desperate mortal world, inspiring through their beauty or patronage.
Toreador culture is a mixture of sybarites, dilettantes, and visionaries. Some Toreador, with echoes of mortal passion, Embrace lovers or “project” progeny who seem to fly in the face of every Toreador custom. These either don’t last long or rise to great prominence as subversives and individualists. Ideas, trends, and “the next great thing” spread through the Clan, and other Kindred often look to the Toreador to guide them.
The Degenerates know this, and many become Harpies, Princes, and other key figures in vampiric society.
Clan Disciplines: Auspex, Celerity, Presence
Weaknesses: When a Toreador experiences something truly remarkable ,a person, an objet d’art, a lovely sunrise..etc. could experience the Stendhal syndrome.
Appearance: Almost to the last, they are attractive in some way, whether the traditional beauty of a runway model or the dangerous allure of something more predatory. The Degenerates augment their physical beauty with a sense of personal style, which may take the form of expensive couture, avant-garde street wear, or classical fashions designed to emphasize their appealing qualities. This isn’t to say that ugly Toreador don’t exist. Indeed, those gifted with less physical beauty often go that much further with their choice of accoutrements.

Often closer to beasts than other vampires, the Gangrel style themselves apex predators. These Ferals prowl the wilds as easily as the urban jungle, and no clan of vampires can match their ability to endure, survive, and thrive in any environment.
A glint of red eyes in the darkness, the scent of a predator’s musk, a flash of fangs, the sound of flesh tearing: These mark the presence of the Gangrel. More than any other Clan, the Gangrel resemble the beasts associated with the legends of vampires: bats, wolves, and other creatures of darkness. Indeed, the Outlanders may develop the ability to transform themselves into these and other, more primal forms.
The Gangrel have other characteristics in common with animals as well. Many shun the elaborate social constructs of both Kindred and kine. A number of them prefer to move alone or as a member of small packs or coteries. Most are tough and, when pressed, ferocious. And when Gangrel succumb to the depredations of the Beast, they are left with some feature redolent of the animal kingdom.
As a Clan, the Gangrel are wary and aloof. Most would prefer to spend their nights stalking prey or wilding on the rooftops than minding Princely edicts or lobbying for recognition of domain.
Clan Disciplines: Animalism, Fortitude, Protean
Weaknesses: Every time a Gangrel frenzies, she acquires a temporary animal characteristic. A patch of fur, a brief torpor after feeding, or skittishness around crowds. All Characteristics acquired in Gangrel frenzies need not only be physical but also relate to a particular behavior.
Appearance: Personal presentation is often not high on the list of many Gangrel priorities, and a Gangrel’s appearance is often more a matter of circumstance than it is of active decision. The Clan’s weakness can contribute a great deal to their appearance, as does an extended unlife in the places where they make their havens, which are frequently short of modern conveniences.

Make no mistake: Malkavian insanity is a painful, alienating phenomenon, but it occasionally provides the Lunatics with bursts of insight or heretofore unknown perspective.
Clan Disciplines: Auspex, Dementation, Obfuscate
Weaknesses: All members of Clan Malkavian suffer from a permanent, incurable derangement. They may acquire and recover from other derangements, and may spend Willpower to ameliorate the effects of the derangement for a scene, but they can never recover from their original derangement.
Appearance: While Malkavians can come from any culture, the madness following the Embrace tends to lead them to extremes of self-presentation. Malkavians may appear disheveled, injured, or simply dirty. They could still be wearing the same clothes from the night of their Embrace or they may have stolen clothes from a laundromat or a department store during a fit of confusion or fugue. Of course, Malkavians are just as likely to be meticulous and exacting in their appearance, trying obsessively to appear as normal as possible.

This Jambalaya is a meal that brings folks together, so gather your loved ones and savor the taste of Louisiana's heart and soul. 
Ingredients
1 lb andouille sausage, sliced
1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs cut into bite-sized pieces
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 bell pepper, diced
3 celery stalks, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
1 cup long-grain white rice
2 cups chicken broth
2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and black pepper to taste
Green onions, chopped, for garnish
Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
Prepare Ingredients
Slice the andouille sausage.
Cut chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces.

Sear Meats

La sua fiaba "la sposa sirena"/"storia di una sirena" è tratta dalla raccolta di Giuseppe Gigli "Superstizioni, pregiudizi e tradizioni in Terra d'Otranto" e poi inserita da Italo Calvino nelle sue "Fiabe Italiane". È ispirata alla leggenda (più tragica) della Monacella del Castello Aragonese, contenuta nel libro di Arcangelo Valente "Case vecchie e case nuove". Ho usato il tutorial di @gretlusky su Deviantart per fare questo disegno.
Here's the Siren of Tarent, Skuma ("Foam" or "Froth"), as she's stealing "the Fairest of them All" from the sirens' garden. Her tale, "the Siren wife", comes from Giuseppe Gigli's "Superstizioni, pregiudizi e tradizioni in Terra d'Otranto" (superstitions, prejudices and traditions in the Land of Otranto), which was included in Italo Calvino's "Italian Folktales". It's based on the more tragic legend around the Monacella at the Castello Aragonese, included in Arcangelo Valente's book "Vase vecchie e case nuove" (old houses and new houses). I used @gretlusky's tutorial on Deviantart for this picture.

24 April: dinner at Artigiano, in Tiranë, Albania
the first dinner my friend and I had in Albania, at an Italian restaurant. if you haven't read my other posts about Albanian fare, it is very much Italian cuisine. hence, the risotto pictured here (r).
the dish on the left was an Albanian cornbread appetizer, and while I was not hungry enough to finish everything, the two pieces I did have were really yummy. the cornbread was thinner and crisper, and also less sweet, than like american cornbread, which is fair. it had a walnut spread on top, which was a nice texture but tbh a little flavourless. but it balanced the crispness of the cornbread crust imho. garnished on top of the spread were tomatoes and green peppers, the latter of which I admittedly picked off...
if I didn't have a main of risotto coming after the cornbread, I would have eaten all of it. but risotto is one of my favs and I didn't want to fill up on cornbread xD I sure could have though! definitely did not nEEd both dishes - the food was very satisfying and filling.
9/10, highly recommend the risotto, and recommend trying the traditional cornbread.

She may share vocal duties with the growling Andrea Ferro in Lacuna Coil, but Cristina Scabbia has always attracted the spotlight. For a quarter of a century, she’s been Milan’s most gothic export, flooring crowds with her soaring voice. Such is her charisma that she’s in demand all over the world, and has collaborated with everyone from Megadeth to Alter Bridge. She also uses her downtime to stream on Twitch and is a bona fide videogame know-it-all. Does she even sleep?!

What is your favourite Final Fantasy game? @CMilesRacer
“VII, without a shadow of a doubt. The first one I played and the most iconic. It was the first one on PS1. It changed the world of videogames, especially in the RPG genre! I was really into the story and it came out when my love of videogames was getting even bigger. And I had a huge crush on Sephiroth.”

“Probably me, because they call me a parrot in the band; I like to imitate other people’s voices. I wouldn’t be as good as he is with growling, but I would definitely try my best to imitate him.”
Hammer: Is there ever a point, when you’re playing live and he’s singing, where you go “I wish I had this bit!”?
“I want to try growling, because I’ve never done it. I feel that, if I knew the technique, I’d be really good because I have a lot of volume on my diaphragm. There was one time in Atlanta where I had to sing the whole show because Andrea was in the hospital with a dislocated shoulder. We didn’t want to cancel the show. It was a lot of fun and extremely special, because I was singing those parts in a different way.”
Did it piss you off to be lumped in with the whole symphonic thing in the early 2000s and all the ‘female-fronted metal’ shit? Lexi Johnson, Facebook
“It doesn’t really piss me off, because I understand that many people don’t know the kind of music we play. If you say ‘female-fronted band’, they kind of have an idea of the music you’re playing, even if every band is different. What I hate is when they put you in one category: ‘OK, the girl is gonna sing this way.’ You don’t ask a guy: ‘Are you part of a male-fronted band?’ It’s not a genre; it’s an indication that there’s a female who sings. So, if you like female voices, you’ll like it, but it’s not a genre.”
Are there any people/artists you would like to collaborate with that you haven’t already? @Leonski700
“A million artists! But I’ve always liked Korn. I know Jonathan Davis as a person and he’s awesome, and I’ve always found his vocal lines very interesting. I like the way he writes, even when he’s alone and writing soundtracks. I love music that was written for movies and videogames. I get a lot of inspiration from soundtracks. So, there are many artists I’d love to collaborate with and Jonathan is definitely one of them.”
Hammer: What franchise soundtrack would you love to do?
“Final Fantasy, although I don’t know if I could do ‘proper’ music for it, because it’s very classical. I’d love to do something for an action series or movie. Not Marvel or DC, though – maybe something more like John Wick, and especially the villain parts.”
Are there any more Italian-language songs on the horizon? Comalies was so beautiful! @jennyalaking
“Not at the moment. We are writing new music and we just recorded for a special project. When we do write Italian parts, we don’t do it on purpose. For us, the sound of the words we’re singing is really important. Italian is perfect for traditional music, but if you use it in metal, it sounds weird.”
Hammer: What’s the special project? “We’re basically redoing Comalies from scratch. We wanted to celebrate its 20th anniversary but not in a nostalgic way. We were very against a remastered version. We asked: ‘How can we celebrate it while being fresh and modern?’, so we rewrote it as we would have written it in 2022. We’ve changed the music; most of the parts are completely different.”

“Definitely the Dome. It’s in the city centre, so it’s the first thing you see when you get out of the underground in Duomo. The view is stunning! It’s one of the most beautiful cathedrals you will ever see. Then I’d take them to eat panzerotti [a smaller version of calzone] at Luini. Everybody would be really impressed, because it’s really good. I’d also take them to [Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting] The Last Supper. We have the original in Milan, so that’d be cool. Then I’d take them out for a good pizza.”

“I’m honestly split. I hate when the image of a woman is completely sexualised, especially if there is talent behind her. But, at the same time, if you are in complete control of that sexualisation and you are the one deciding to present yourself in that way, it’s actually really empowering. There’s nothing wrong with liking yourself or feeling sexy and beautiful and showing it. Put it this way: in the music world, if being sexy is the only thing that you have to offer, that’s kind of sad.”
When was the last time you thought Lacuna Coil might break up? James Young, email
“It happened at the beginning of our career. Our first line-up split right after the first tour. Our EP wasn’t even out! That was the only time that I thought it could end. Marco [Coti Zelati, bass], Andrea and I decided to go on because we wanted to and the label [Century Media] asked us to. It never happened again. We’ve never had any doubts.”

“Not at the moment. I think it would make sense if you could do something totally different to what you do in the band and, in Lacuna Coil, I am free to express myself. One day I will do it, but just to see if I’m actually able to put together something cool.”
What was your favourite Lacuna Coil record to make and why? Bindi Louise, Facebook
“I don’t have a favourite record, but maybe [2019’s] Black Anima, the last one; it’s fresher to my ears. I certainly know which one is my least favourite. It’s not because of the music or songwriting, but it’s [2016’s] Delirium. My life was a mess, with a lot of illness around me. If you want to look at the positives, it made the vibe of the record more intense, but it was very difficult to rehearse and record that album.”
What is your favourite Lacuna Coil song? So many to choose from! @Rustymoon88
“I’d say it’s between Veneficium [from Black Anima] and Blood, Tears, Dust [from Delirium]. I don’t have favourites, but they’re the ones that I’m enjoying on stage very much at the moment. You might as well be asking a mum to name their favourite son or daughter!”

“God Of War: Ragnarök. That is definitely the one that I am looking forward to. There’s a great collectors’ edition coming out in a few days with Mjölnir as well. I really hope that I’m going to be able to get it. I still regret that I didn’t get the Elden Ring collectors’ edition with the helmet. My boyfriend got it, so I said, ‘What do I need it for?’ Then I saw the helmet. Now I want one!”

Thanksgiving, or La Festa del Tacchino, is an important day in the Ciapetti household. Typically, a lively Sunday dinner is the most important meal of the week, but Thanksgiving means going beyond even that. In addition to the typical American fare, it’s common for them to include traditional Italian dishes, like baked ziti or antipasti. Family pours in from out of town, but even more places are set at the table for whatever additional friends or plus ones that may turn up. They expect the house (and the stomachs of all attendees) to be bursting at the seams. A similarly large meal is prepared for Christmas.
If your muse is a friend of Cherry or her family and doesn’t have much going on for Thanksgiving (or Christmas), the Ciapetti door is open to them, always. No RSVP necessary.
