Little Gracie Watson is one of the most visited graves in Bonaventure Cemetery. People from all over the world stop by her burial plot to admire her statue and sometimes leave gifts. Easter is a holiday forever connected to her because that’s when she died and set into motion events that would be told to many Savannah visitors for years to come. Gracie’s parents W.J. and Frances Watson were hoteliers running the Pulaski House Hotel off Johnson Square in the 1880s. That hotel is long gone. The space is now home to a Regions Bank. But before the hotel was bulldozed in the name of modernization, like so many other historic buildings in the 50s and 60s, it was a place to stay for travelers and a home to Gracie and her parents. Gracie was dearly loved by her parents and was an outgoing child that loved to run around the hotel and speak with guests. In April of 1889, she caught pneumonia and died a few days before Easter. Her parents were distraught by the loss of their only child. Some versions of the story say her father fell into a depression. W.J. and Frances Watson would later move back to the northeast to be closer to family, but before they left, they commissioned sculptor John Walz to create a statue of Gracie to mark her grave in Bonaventure. Her obituary printed in the April 23, 1889, edition of Savannah Morning News noted that she was “a general favorite among guests” at the hotel. W.J. and Frances eventually moved to New York and are both buried in Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, New York. Before they moved, they did commission John Walz to sculpt a likeness of their daughter Gracie to mark her grave. Happy New Year’s Eve! 🎉 To begin 2023 out on the right path, I’ve decided to head west in a few weeks to meet many of my nomadic friends in 🌵 Arizona. 🚐💨 I’m excited, but also nervous due to some social anxiety. Most of my anxiety occurs in anticipation of meeting people (like now and on my roadtrip), and for a short period of time when I first meet people or attend a gathering. (I hide it well.) Then, I get WILD and CRAZY! 😜😂 Seriously though, I become my normal, trippy self. I’ll be meeting a friend in Texas, Lindy's Weekend She Shed, to caravan with her… I’m incredibly thankful for her generosity! I’m taking Steve Warden’s wise advice to “Do the thing on your list that you're least comfortable doing, or choosing. Broaden your experiences and live it up!” Thanks Steve! Then, I’ll do some sightseeing on my way back to Orlando, where I’ll go to a few more Disney parks 🏰, and meetup with some old and new friends before driving back to Georgia. After that, maybe a new fur baby… 🐶🐾🐱? Thanks to everyone who gave me the support and advice (and laughs) that I needed to arrive at this decision! ❤️ Let’s make 2023 an incredible year! I uploaded my Ohio road trip video last night, which includes Everett Road Covered Bridge, Brandywine Falls and Cuyahoga Scenic Railroad at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It’s an amazing park! My video also includes an unexpected snow day in April. I hope you enjoy it!

Everett Covered Bridge, which crosses Furnace Run, is the only remaining covered bridge in Summit County. When it was built in the 1800s, it was one of over 2,000 in the state.

Everett Covered Bridge is located at 2370 Everett Road in Peninsula, 1/2 mile west of Riverview Road.
