I will now be personally headcanoning that Bruce pulled Tim aside one day to ask his opinion on if Tim would ever consider changing or adding Alfred to his middle name(s). I've always interpreted Jack Drake as having been abusive towards Tim, due to some of the comics where he's been violent and such (Like the time he destroyed some of Tim's belongings and such when he was angry at him, or the straight up neglect when Jack and Janet went to explore the world regularly and leave Tim behind, forgot his birthday, etc), and so I feel like sometimes Tim would feel icky about keeping his middle name as 'Jackson' after his biological father (I'm surprised he ever kept 'Drake' and didn't just fully move to 'Wayne', but alas). I feel like Bruce would also be aware that Tim sometimes feels left out of the family, especially due to the early years of him and Damian's dynamic and constantly being told he was never Bruce's 'real son'. It doesn't take a lot of common sense to realise those kind of words will linger, even after the brothers have improved their relationship. I had originally thought to consider this with Damian, but he's already named after Thomas, so I feel as though Bruce would choose Tim so that he gets to both honour his second father, and let Tim know that he will always be Bruce's son and a part of the family, regardless of DNA. Tim accepts, and so his middle name becomes Alfred, instead of Jackson.
Alfred doesn't find out until he's going over some family legal documents and sees it. He cries when he does.

VERSE — MOVIE ( CONTAINS SPOILERS & CANON DIVERGENT, tw for canon-typical themes & suicide mention )
just to get straight to the point : it's mainly canon divergent in the sense that i will be altering details in order to make mike an afton. do i think this is going to happen in the movie timeline? no. do i think it's more likely that they're going to explain the oddly personal kidnapping through mirroring the emilys? probably. but it's MY michael afton blog and i can put on my tinfoil hat as much as i want about it. of course i am willing to adapt based on other's info / preferences but given that this isn't my main canon anyway it is meant for those that are interested.
Mike thought he knew everything there was to know about what happened to his family: what he was never told is who his real father was. He was too young to remember anything about William Afton before his mom separated herself from him entirely ( one night stand, breakup, what have you, i'm not picky- ), so he always thought of the father he grew up with as his dad, the reality never changed anything about that.
Until he was twelve years old and Garrett went missing, and everything fell apart. William followed the Schmidts there, taking Garrett in a targeted attack ( whether or not he was trying to grab Mike, took him out of spite, anything else is also flexible ). Everything grew solemn and tense, each of the Schmidts lost in their own individual grief. Slowly, they stopped having dinners together, stopped going out as a family, stopped being able to feel like things were normal. The grief and guilt only added to Mike's developing anger issues and depression. Although it wasn't on purpose nor with any malicious intent, his dad was the more distant of his parents at the time, serving as the first hint towards his biological parentage and simply because as much as he cared for mike, he was grappling with losing his biological kid ( think tse henry- well meaning but drowning in grief enough for the child to pick up on it ).
This is where Abby comes in, where the Schmidts have another kid in an attempt to feel like a normal family again. It almost seems to work, although there is still that underlying sense of collective grief. Mike was older by then, too ( while he graduates high school, he either doesn't go to college at all or doesn't finish it ).
Their mom dies and the brief sense of possible stability disappears again. It's when Mike is staying at home again for the funeral/to help with Abby that their father commits suicide, unable to take the grief. Mike has had custody of Abby since then.
The events proceed as they did in the movie, William's recognition of Mike in the office not only stemming from the kidnapping but the fact that it's his kid, although Mike doesn't find anything out beyond the fact that it's the man who took Garrett. There is potential for more hints towards this in past interactions with his aunt or birth records or even his dynamic with Vanessa, but for the most part this specific realization is left open.
Following the movie's events, he... does come home to his aunt in the living room. After reporting her death, Mike actually goes back to Freddy's one more time to get security footage in order to prove his innocence. Afterwards, he does his best to hold down another job to keep taking care of Abby in peace, but something about Freddy's gives him the sense that he'll come back to make sure nothing like this happens again.

Okay okay, so this ask is completely self-indulgent and also for New Horizons writing...
But I need to know, when Eclipse eventually introduces Neon to his brothers... How would the two of them react to meeting Neon? I can only imagine this would be a planned meeting too, and hopefully done during a time Eclipse's relationship with them is a *bit* better.
So... If you don't mind... May I has details? How might they react/get on? Do you think the boys would like Neon? What's their feelings on them?
i am nervous, good morning
I think by that point they'll have heard enough about Neon to already feel like they know them (at least somewhat). There would be some polite awkwardness - let's imagine it's Sun and Moon coming to visit!
Arriving late in the evening and Moon is trying very hard to not frown at seeing Neon still up and going, not even close to getting to bed. But it's fine, it's fine, he doesn't know their schedule and he's supposed to get to know them now! Would have an easier time slipping into a more comfortable lighthearted conversation, sneaking in little teases and hoping to make Neon laugh by telling embarrassing stories about Eclipse. Just the nice ones! Like how right after getting his body, both Sun and Moon had to often drag him along after he wandered off to follow a butterfly or another insect, late night (low battery) talks of "Why can't we see shrimp colors. We're already animatronics, why did we have to be limited to human adjacent vision?" "The humans haven't figured out how to access shrimp colors yet, Eclipse." "Why?" "???", or how he once got a piece of plastic from a fidget toy stuck in his face plate and unfortunately got stuck with it upside down - wait, he still has the photos somewhere, give him a second -
Will accept embarrassing stories about himself with some grace before just deciding to rag on Sun together, because there are simply so many and Sun isn't here to defend himself and also Moon is a menace. Surprised perhaps by how many stories Neon already knows, but loves to counter them with even funnier bits!
Sun is a little more awkward, simply because he thinks (once again) that things have to be proper, he's meeting his little brother's partner for the first time and has to leave a good impression! Internally screeching at Moon (who dips right back into rest mode) when he learns that his "good first impression" has been ruined by humiliating stories! Gives off slight kicked puppy vibes as he assures Neon he's really not always like that - not even usually! Slightly relieved when Neon doesn't seem too put off, maybe even reassures him that they like him better as a dork. His pride complains a little, but he would accept it on account of "at least they like me". Would help Eclipse with cooking for Neon without being asked, asking about their preferences in passing and if they've tried certain meals - if any answer is "no", he immediately offers to make it for them. He's good at that, and it's a good way to earn brownie points! Will show Eclipse, too, and the screeching of "NOT THAT HOT!!!" or "THAT'S NOT HOW OVENS WORK" is an entertainment show in and of itself
Would also (somewhat petulantly) agree that the perfect revenge on Moon would be to share equally as embarrassing stories, and Neon can rub their little pizza hands together and earn even more blackmail material for their future family <3
Both of them have that nervousness - once they get along better with Eclipse and Neon isn't as defensive about how they treated him (which, while justified, would not be nice bonding) they'd only worry about being liked because they already know Neon from what Eclipse told them, and they like them but what if they don't like the boys?
Neither of them would do well with having their mistakes pointed out to them - they know they messed up with Eclipse, they're trying to do better, but any mention of that would probably make them feel bad and withdraw. Best to leave that off the table during that first visit, even if there'll be some awkward stumbles trying to avoid it - they'll appreciate that, actually. Them not being the only ones fumbling, and not getting reprimanded for something they're already working to fix
There's really no need for Neon to worry - they're good for Eclipse, and Eclipse loves them to bits, so Sun and Moon have already adopted them into the family before they ever meet <3

I've talked a few times about My Brother The Social Worker -- he's an LCSW in Montana who's been working with an addiction recovery center for the last few years. Montana, unsurprisingly, has a lot of people who are struggling with their addictions -- there are huge barriers to treatment that start with being hours by car from support to cultural avoidance to, as always, money.
Joann, my brother's boss, began an Intensive Outpatient program as someone in recovery herself, with the goal of meeting people where they're at instead of pushing "addicts" through a system. She created a small, tight-knit, talented group of therapists and social workers who are invested in their clients and their treatment.
Over the last month or so, the business was going through a financial crisis due to the apparent actions of someone who had access to the business's money. This person was confronted about the behavior and their access to the money was cut off. Tragically, this person murdered Joann on the night of Friday, March 17, 2023.
Since her passing, my brother has been trying to balance grieving and keeping Joann's mission alive. Even though technically they aren't being paid, he and the other therapists have been continuing to support the clients through their grief and addiction -- ensuring that the people who also knew Joann aren't left without care. They are navigating immensely complex systems of licensing and insurance while trying to manage everything else that's happening.
They've started a Gofundme, because that's where they're at. When someone passes suddenly, their assets, their business's assets, can get tangled up for months while courts make sure the estate is distributed properly. As of today, it's been a week and a half. They're treading water right now, but they badly need a life raft.
If you can help by giving money, that is wonderful. If you can help by sharing, that's also amazing. If you can't interact with this post, that is more than fine -- please take care of yourself, be safe.
