The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.
"Good evening, Mr. Sugar," said, well, said this post. Whose job it was to never forget a face. Not least your most lovely visage.
You must forgive us. We find ourselves in something of a straight-faced frenzy for all things whimsical, symmetrical, deadpan, and meticulously crafted—like, by way of example, Wes Anderson's take on the lesser-known Roald Dahl short story: The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. It features a pleasing color palette, an ensemble cast, a parable of spiritual growth, this idiosyncratic director's visual inventiveness, distinctive style (such style), and Benedict Cumberbatch with a delightful mustache. At this point, we would say something like what's not to like? or need we say more? But why would we say this. There is nothing not to like here. There is nothing else that needs to be said. It's Benedict Cumberbatch—with a mustache.
We relent. If you really remain unconvinced, we will make the case by sewing together all of the above (the palette, the style ((such style)), Cumberbatch, etc.) and present what we consider one of the finest shots ever put to film. Exhibit A.

If that doesn't persuade you, perhaps we can sweeten the deal with this: The Benedict Cumberbatch Name Generator.

My little homage to the new Wes Anderson film, Asteroid City. I can't wait to see this movie! Has anyone seen it yet? What are your thoughts?
The photo was taken in Morongo Valley, California. Edited in Lightroom and Photoshop.

The Royal Tenenbaums of Tomorrow.
The Royal Tennenbaums is a cozy, quirky and at times crazy film highlighting a lovably dysfunctional family nestled in a nostalgic nuanced New York City. Cue the shtick of my little four year old who would look adorable in a baby tracksuit, my six year old who's every bit a Margot and me who's I guess Angelica hustons character? But maybe at one time in my youth I was a Margot...though let's not be so literal. This is Wes Anderson after all. To be too literal would be missing half the fun. Tongue-in-cheek messiness abounds.
The Royal Palms shuffleboard club could have been the scene for an epic shuffleboard duel between the Wilsons pair; Owen and Luke. Richie would win of course. He's got the sweatband for success. If you too want to feel like you live in an impeccably stylish comedy of errors then make your way to the Ferry and get yourself a first class seat right up top with the good view. There are flamingos on every inch of the restroom area. They are the type of flamingos that Rembrandt might paint or Rosseau. There are flamingos in front of disco streamers and there are beautifully vintage shuffleboards in retro tones. Vast expanses of shiny smooth playing area that lends itself to the era of the dinner jacket, the aviator sunglasses and the ascot. The corduroy jacket with the patched elbows and the tracksuit might also join in to the sartorial symphony that is this Tenenbaum-specific era of debauched decadence.
To recreate your own Tenenbaums moment
*scour vintage and thrift stores
*visit thrift stores online
*eyeliner lots of it!
*think pins and ribbons, wrist bands and barettes
*think vintage '70s shades especially in sunglasses
*think vintage prints and groovy band aids (yes I am wearing a band-aid as a nod to the character Margot and her unfortunate finger episode...my band aid reads its all good.
And if you view the beauty of the city through a Polaroid lens with character and grit and a whole lot of tennis-ready tenacity...
Well then yeah things might be good.

Maybe it’s bad to hyper-fixate on one actor but I am so excited for Joe Keery to have bigger roles. I think he’s so great in Fargo this season and I look forward to his upcoming 2024 and post ST slate. It’s high time he’s been cast in some big tentpole films. He leans indie in his choices, which I respect, but dude. Put him in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia. Make him a knight. Put him in a sequel to the DnD movie that came out this year. Make him a cute bartender that’s thrown into a secret plot to steal government info because he’s in the wrong place wrong time. Father son drama. Road trip movie where he falls in love. I could go on….
