Idea I don’t wanna write but has been eating my brain for days:
Contrary to popular belief, Danny cannot get along with every spirit he meets, even after a round or two of fighting. Sometimes a spirit is too old, too physically far gone, too corrupted to see sense. Spirits like these are sick. They hoard curses like it’s gold and haven’t seen the green sky of the Zone in centuries. These spirits become the worst kind of ghosts; ones that are barely hanging onto their sanity by a thread and who actively seek to harm the living.
These are also the spirits that won’t respond to the King, no matter who it is. As such, it is the King’s duty to hunt down these spirits and either get them help by returning them to the Zone, or exterminate them.
Well, Danny is now the King. And the next ghost on his list is the Spirit of Gotham City.

Prompt 247
Danny grumbles, going limp as the Spirit plucked him up, holding him out like some sort of stray cat. Their golden eyes stared across him, white hair shimmering and bloodied feathers rustling as they tilted their head.
“You sure he’s not somehow ours?” Bludhaven asks again, setting him down once more to circle. Amity laughs, wild hair the color of wheat fluttering in a non-existent breeze and portal pulsing like a heart as she rests a hand on his head.
“Well darlin’, I am asking if you would be open to adopting,” the Spirit laughs, the sound as familiar as the birds outside his window in the mornings. “Well, I suppose I could always ask your dear sister Arkham-”
“No no, I would be honored,” Bludhaven smiled a literally sharp grin, something mischievous and violent about it in a way Danny was slowly growing used to. “I’m just- look at the little ghostling! He looks like he could be from ours! My hair, your eyes… he’s just missing markings…”
“Markings he’ll get once you give me an answer darlin’...”
“OH- Yes, of course! Sorry, I got whelmed there.”
“You have been stalking your vigilante a bit too much there Blud.”

The Bells toll for 4 Waynes:
Older Brother! Danny.
It was a regular day in the Wayne manor, and all the Batboys are home. They are in a room with the wayne family portrait before one of them notices something off with the painting. Even, Bruce can't figure out whose the person with his parents. It's only when Alfred sees the painting that he swears.
Info:
- Danny is the first born Wayne. He was born weak and sickly and lasted until he was nine, where he dies (by most likely the court of Owls).
- Danny knows his parents mean well, but he knows that their trying for another child since he's not fairing too well. He gives them his blessing for his future sibling.
- Alfred actually finds Danny when he dies, a vows to protect the future wayne heir. When Alfred looks at Bruce he sometimes sees Danny when he was healthy.
- Danny somehow speedruns the rebirth process that despite being born a Fenton, he still a wayne. He still becomes Phantom and goes, "A la tour de become Batman, but Ghost Zone edition"
- Danny is a diplomat for the GZ, not a king. He demolishes the system and rebuilds a new system where they can self govern. (The crown, the key, and the ring are kept with Clockwork and housed in a several-DNA locked container.
- Hears about the rankness of actual Gotham and its ghosts, so decides to go to Gotham to help Gotham spirit.
- Danny is actual there to deal with Gotham ghost, due to conflicting influences (bats, owls, rogues) leaves Gotham very weak and corruptible. (Spoilers, Danny has force Gotham into her core to heal herself, but stuff happens... Danny has to kill Gotham as the court of owls and the rogue are too influential on Gotham.)
- Danny actually shows up at a gala as cannonically aged Daniel Wayne.
- Danny works as a freelance mechanic or freelance mortician in Gotham.
- The Bats assume the Court is behind Danny's resurrection but, Danny eyes burn green so maybe the LoA is involved.
*Edit*: Danny, in order to heal Gotham, has to house her core as the ecto in city would take too long, and who knows what happened into those pits with Ra's involved (or Danny ferries Lady Gotham to the ghost zone to heal and he takes her place). Danny, for the time being, becomes the city spirit taking on the shadowed tar-like appearance with bits of owl and bat features with curses included and gains a lot of knowledge about his city and its people. This is a lot for Danny as he is essentially a supercharged ghost hybrid. The supernatural in Gotham are worried as Danny has the ability to essentially remove them and their curses on Gotham, but at the same time, because he houses Lady Gotham, people have the chance fight him for more power. The bats don't want to trust Danny and especially after he stakes their city spirit (they think he'll report the Bad guys, but cities are self-governing...)
[ I don't know if I want Danny to meet the Waynes again in the GZ before or after meeting Bruce, and Danny does meet Ra's at some point before meeting Bruce and co.]

Okay, you know how City Spirits are a thing?
And Superheros both Die, Un-Die, Re-Die, Dimensionally Sorta Maybe Die But Then Don't, and also never Died in the first place? And probably do at least a portion of that in Medical? While ALSO hanging out, quantumly maybe Dead, maybe alive, in their Super Cool Clubhouse?
Which is ALSO exposed to space rays, the entirety of The Magic Club, weird alien Technology, aaaaand whatever they decide to store on it??
:T
I'm just SAYING...
For as long as dwellings Of Significance have existed, there have been house spirits. They are the IDEA of the house. The SIGNIFICANCE of it. What makes it HOME. The weight of the halls that turn into Halls. And The Watchtower? Is KNOWN to enough people, to have SIGNIFICANCE.
It's a HALL where Heros Live. A Place Of Safety. It GAURDS.
It is also inanimate. Steeped heavily in every sort of energy, be it magic or science, and multidimensional fuckery imaginable. But? Not SENTIENT. Yet.
Until of course... this new fangled Anti-Ghost Shield comes out. By the new and recently no-longer on the run (from the Goverment they're at war with) Dr.'s Fenton! Why were they are war? Don't worry about it!
They Won.
:)
Unrelated! Never threaten their kids. They WILL find you. Not a threat, just informing!
:) :)
The security guy they sent to the expo was from Gotham, unfortunately. So he found the couple to be completely normal. They? Should not have sent Thomas. He was hired BECAUSE his parents were Mad Scientists in the making. Batman was steering him away from a life of crime. Thomas could judge "normal" from "deeply unhinged" if it belly danced infront of him, in the seduction dance of a thousand, deep fried, mackerel.
It's his version of face blindness. Great with technology though! And the shield worked a treat. Even promised to be both ethical AND programmable! Not harming the ghosts it pushed out unless they try to force entry AND allowing them to program in exceptions. Allowing Heros such as Deadman to freely enter!
Is it a little janky looking? Yeah. But if it works, it works. They add it to the systems and flip it on.
One small and immediate problem. There is now a small knight shaped child in the engine room. She was NOT there a second ago. She has controlo of the ENTIRE Watchtower, claims to BE the Watchtower, and knows all their names. Knows a disturbing level of information about every employee on the Tower.
Oh and apparently "No one is leaving."
No one panic! Just unplug the... she has swallowed the ghost shielding unit into a wall. Slightly panic.
Panic lite.
Luckily, no one is willing to throw the first punch at what appears to be a small child. So the JLA Dark have a chance to literally run over.
They demand to know who's bright idea it was to add... "ectoplasm"? Was THAT the energy source? Oooh. Their departments probably in trouble. Later though, the hero's are trying to negotiate with a small child. Who is apparently a ghost.
It's not SAFE, she's insisting. Everyone has to stay HERE where she can protect them. From the nebulous threat of Bad Guys. They LEAVE and come back HURT. She is UPSET and everyone is going to STAY! Forever!
Not good.
Then Thomas pipes up, like the oblivious asshole he is, that he should PROBABLY call the engines makers. They did mention something a long these lines might happen.
WHAT.
You think, Thomas? Might be a good idea, maybe? Just a bit? YES FUCKING CALL THEM!
(All right, all right! No need to YELL! *ring ring* 'Ello? Maddie? Sorry to catch you at dinner-)
So now? There is a glowing college student, who was escorted here by a WEREWOLF, who just? Tore open reality? To some green, swirling hellscape? And popped through like "sup, sorry I'm late. Was in a council meeting!" And judging by the ficking CROWN and the various quietly panicking magic users, he probably didn't mean student council, and just?
Guess he's hear to talk to their newly sentient Tower.
Question! Asks Thomas, of the fucking Ghost King because of course he does, are they Dads now? Or if they already have kids, Dads AGAIN? Do they have to come up with a baby name?
.......oh dear lord, the Ghost King looks like he has to think about it.
What are we gonna tell our SPOUSES!? "Hey honey, guess what I got at work today! A NEW CHILD. They're a space station!"

Jason 13 au memes part two
Bruce: *slams a door on accident*
Batfam: you slam door on Brood? YOU SLAM DOOR ON BROOD LIKE GROUNDINGS???! OH!! OH JAIL FOR FATHER!!! JAIL FOR FATHER FOR 1000 YEARS!!!!
Jason 13, calling Danny on speed dial: JAIL FOR FATHER!!!!
-----------
Kitty:
Jason:
Kitty: YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU WERE BUILT LIKE A BRICK HOUSE!!!!!
Jason: to be fair, I forgot???
Kitty: speaking of which, hows that going out for you?
Jason: it's been....emotional.....not to mention the whord of shades trying to mother hen me 24/7
Kitty: I've been meaning to ask you about those.
Jason: I thought you wanted to talk about our relationship?
Kitty: we have communication rings, we can do that later. I'm more worried about the tall intimidating city spirit behind you.
Jason: oh that's just Gotham
Kitty:
Gotham: *tall black lady that can kick your ass* ;)
Kitty, sweating:
Jason: don't worry, she's nice. She's just a litte over protective of her kids.
Kitty: there's MORE of you????
----------
Kitty:
The batfam:
Kitty, surrounded by baby ghost cores like stray kittens: I don't know what's worse. How much they look like you or the inane urge to just adopt them all, oh nooooooooooo!!
Jason: now you know how it feels old man.
Bruce: *confused in bat*
--------------
Kitty:
Catwoman:
Kitty: crimes?
CatWoman: hell yes, kitten!
[LATER]
Jason: WHO THE FUCK DYED MY SUIT PINK?!?!?!
--------------
Kitty: you know considering my name it's a little odd that you're the one being all cat like.
Jason, laying his head on her lap while she cards through his hair: shut uuup, it's not like I can ask anyone else for attention like this. It'd be weeeeiiiird.
Kitty: *sighs* better hope you didn't leave your comm on.
Jason:
Kitty: Johnny.
Jason: I can't remember if I turned it off or not
Dick: you know little wing, if you wanted attention you could've just asked-
Jason: SHIT!!!!!!
---------------
Spectra: so are you still dating him or..?
Kitty: you know? We died basically around the same time and we were introduced to each other first before anyone else, so we kinda just stuck together. And really everyone had kinda just started calling us boyfriend and girlfriend, and we just didn't think otherwise to correct them.
Ember: wait, so you two HAVEN'T been dating??
Kitty: it was never official, if anything it was an ongoing bet to see how long it would last before people started to notice. We're more like.....siblings but not quite. Or emotional support ghosts for each other.
Spectra: that....actually makes a lot of sense. You two are hardly seen without the other and you haven't exactly been dead for long, so it would make sense you're still settling down from the trauma of dying.
Kitty: did you just psychoanalise me?!
Spectra: You basically gave it to me on a silver platter!! It's a force of habit!!!
--------------
Jason: hey squishy
Blob ghost in Johnny 13's bike: ?
Jason: think you can get this blob ghost out of my corpse-
Squishy: *Rev's backwards out of the bat cave*
Jason: ouch! Not even my own pet will help a zombie out.
------------
Danny: so how you feelin Jason?
Jason, sarcastically: oh just great, I've only had ONE murderous breakdown this week due to Zom!
Danny: Zom????
Jason: the blob ghost possessing me.
Danny: You named it????!
Jason: WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO?!?! IT'S A FREAKING BLOB GHOST, IT'S NOT LIKE IT HAD A NAME BEFORE!!!!!
Danny:
Jason:
Danny: I'm telling frostbite-
Jason: Don't you DARE!
--------------
Dick: Hey, Jason? Can you come over? I need your help.
Jason, muffled by a humming noise: sorry, I don't think that'll be possible at the moment?
Dick: what do you mean by that Jay, and what is that sound?
Jason, swallowed into the shadows and getting fussed over by the shades: would you believe me if I said I got readopted by shades?
Dick: U Wot?
---------------
Batman: Jason, what's this about shades adopting you??
Jason: look I didn't ask for it, it just happened.
Bruce: and are they....good? Parents?
Jason: well they like putting me in shadow jail alot.
Batman: Shadow jail?????
Jason: not to mention the constant babying-
Bruce: WHAT?!?!
Jason: ?! Jeez Bruce!! Wha-
Bruce: YOU LET THEM BABY YOU?!?!?!
Jason:
Bruce: I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT SINCE THE FIGHTING STARTED!!!!
Jason: .....are-are you JEALOUS?!
Bruce:
Bruce >:'(
--------------
Dick: ok, so to recap! *pulls out a projector and a Google slide document*
Dick: Jason got reanimated by something going awry and messing with reality, accidentally reviving Jason. *click* He gets scooped up by Talia and revives him fully. *click* this leaves him with powers and uncontrollable emotional problems *click* apparently he can talk to ghosts and they are often friendly to him back. *click* so much so, according to Jason himself, he has been adopted by the entirety of the ghost population in Gotham *click* including the SPIRIT of Gotham herself.
*it's a vague drawing of what Gotham looks like*
Dick: any questions?
Tim: yeah, uh. Who's that?
Danny: hi! :D
Dick: no clue, next question!
Danny: I'm phantom! I used to beat Jason up when he used to go by Johnny 13!
Batfam:
Cass: does the Lazarus pit taste like lemonade?
Dick: no, it tastes more like sprite.
Duke: wait-how do you-
Dick: NEXT QUESTION!
--------------
Jason, 'living on his own':
The Shades: :)
Squishy: :)
Gotham sometimes: :)
Kitty: :P
Danny: >:)
The various bird and/or bat: :)
Damien: :
Ember: lmao I'm the older one now! >:D
Spectra: (usually only when Kitty shows up)
Skulker: (target practice training) >:)
Technus: (built Johnny's bike believe it or not) >:)
The box ghost: (this man has dad energy, change my mind) >:)c
The lunch lady: (every growing ghost needs proper calories!) :)
Jason: ...............I need a bigger house....
-----------------
Batman steps into the batcave to see green fire everywhere, Jason in his ghost form, and Damien trying to stab him with a sword.
Damien: it was Todd's idea!
Jason: Damien, you fucking snitch!
Batman: language!
Damien: yeah Hood, watch your fucking language!
Batman: DAMIEN!
(Reference to this)
--------------
Jason: remind me why you're here again?
Danny: what? Like I can't visit my favorite Rouge?
Jason: I thought that was plasmius?
Danny: he's my arch nemesis, not a rouge! He doesn't count!
Jason: if you say so. But why am I your favorite, and I'm pretty sure I no longer qualify to be one of your rouges?
Danny: dude you're the only one I can have a serious conversation about! Vlad's a fruitloop!!
Jason: yeah but at least he knows what he's taking about half the time.
Danny: psh. 'Half the time'
Danny:
Danny: you can still turn into Johnny, right?
Jason: I mean if I concentrate real hard I guess? But it'll take a lot of energy.
Danny: wanna convince Vlad he's going insane?
Jason: only if I can record it.
Danny: DEAL!

Cursed Memories
Johnny, son of the witch who cursed Gotham and Kitty, daughter of Carmine Falcone were curious about what happened to their city after they both died. Kitty consistently refused to go to Gotham because she saw no point in reminiscing.
However, Johnny was a completely different case. While Gotham was known to be full of curses, they were moderately "controlled" before, but after one of the families went after Kitty and he died as a result, his mother became enraged, cursing Gotham to the point of no return and creating a city spirit.
After much pleading, Kitty finally agreed and they both headed to Gotham. Carmine Falcone who was arguing with Salvatore almost fainted when he saw his daughter smiling in his office. Since she had been convinced to return, Kitty had some plans for those who dared to kill her before her engagement.
On the other hand, Johnny dedicated himself to walking through the streets of Crime Alley, his former home. Being followed by Gotham's spirit and a shocked Red Hood who could see the shadows moving around the blonde, things getting destroying in his path.
A war between the families was about to take place thanks to the ghosts, and no one was prepared.

DPxDC Prompt where when Jason is resurrected, he does not become fully conscious. He lays in his coffin, at rest while his body slowly absorbs the ambient ectoplasm of Gotham and tries to fix the improper formation of his core.
The rest is not altogether peaceful. He often has nightmares, and has no way of escaping them. The ambient ectoplasm in Gotham is sustaining Jason, but what repairs the ectoplasm is managing are agonizingly slow.
-
Danny has been living in Gotham for awhile, having moved there with Jazz as soon as she turned 18. Gotham has its own host of ghosts, but Danny feels at ease without the constant strain of ghost fights.
That is, until he feels something amiss in the Gotham cemetery.
The cemetery feels wrong, in a way Danny can't place. It reminds him of Amity, how restless it is-- only different. Wrong. He keeps visiting the cemetery, trying to find the source of that feeling. The entire graveyard is saturated with it, and all Danny can do is sit in the graveyard and talk into the quiet. He lets emotions flood from his core, trying to exude an air of calm that might settle whatever restless spirit haunts the grounds.
It works, at least. The sense of restless agitation eases when Danny flares his core, settling into a quiet comfort.
It becomes stronger, too. Danny can feel it coming from a newer section of the graveyard, and he curiously wonders why he's drawn more and more to a single line of headstones.
Wonders why the one on the end seems to stand out, the name Jason Peter Todd burning itself into his dreams.
Wonders why he feels a kinship with this boy's grave, when he can't even see a ghost attached to it or feel any resonance of a core. Nothing stronger than the blob ghosts that haunt the grounds, at least.
Only ever those strange emotions and that restless energy that quiets with the sooth of his own core.
Yet one day when Danny visits the graveyard and flares his core, he's startled when another one answers his.
-
[I originally posted this prompt in the Batpham server and it ended here, but several of us expanded on it and what I’m posting after this are the additions I added in that discussion, some of it edited.] Jason never actually digs out of his grave. When he finally awakens and tries to dig at the coffin he actually slips through it into the soil above. A hand thrusts its way through the soil and pulls him the rest of the way up
Danny is the only one present when Jason comes out of his grave-- when he pulls him free, a ghostly inversion of Robin who he knows to be a halfa. In his confused state, however, Jason does not linger in the cemetery. He runs off, and even though Danny's half ghost and can get around fast, Jason is now too and knows the city well enough that he manages to slip away. He's terrified, confused beyond reason, and hiding.
Jason hangs about the city, and at times he goes up on his favorite gargoyle to think-- and that's the first time Babs sees him. She thinks it's just a mistake-- her own imagination-- because as soon as she looks again, he's gone.
But it keeps happening. Dick swears he sees Jason near the manor grounds when he goes to visit. Alfred swears he sees him in the rear view mirror of the car one day. Tim swears he sees him while heading home one night. Bruce sees him on patrol, long enough for the two to lock eyes, but before Bruce can even open his mouth he's gone. And Danny isn't helping, because he's Looking for Jason still, trying to help, and this suspicious kid keeps turning up in the weirdest places and at a glance he looks like Jason too.
And it fucks with Bruce's head so badly. He can't say anything about it for days, and when he shakily admits it to Alfred the butler tells him he saw the same thing-- and when the others also share this, all of it lining up too perfectly, that's when Bruce approaches the grave and finds it empty.
During this, Jason naturally grows more bold after his initial shock and confusion dies down. He's a bold and smart kid, even if he's confused and afraid. He's just trying to investigate and see how Gotham (and his family) are doing and figure out how he can approach Bruce. He sees Tim and can’t help but feel forgotten and replaced, but without the rage from the pit he's trying to be a bit more level-headed and think things through.
Jason is also learning more about his new physiology, which keeps him distracted and his mind busy. Trying to figure out himself as much as those around him. But some things still haunt him and cannot be so easily ignored.
An encounter with the Joker sets Jason off.
Jason sees the Joker and that rage and hurt builds inside of him and he manages something similar to a wail. It's the most broken sound Danny's ever heard. It's nothing like his wail, it's more like choking and static and more a feeling in the chest than a sound. Jason died from inhaling smoke and didn't have any dying screams. It’s a shattered, raw wall of reverberating emotion that has no justice.
And Danny goes to it-- stumbling, because it's raw enough to punch at his core-- and he just finds the kid he's been looking for knelt on the ground, keening and sobbing his heart out. Danny goes to comfort him, tentatively wrapping an arm around him while they're surrounded by Wreckage (and a clown-shaped dead body).
And when the bats get there they finally get a good look at the specter they've been seeing all around Gotham, and it's absolutely Jason-- with another boy beside him... And the Joker's body, twisted and bloody. But when Bruce gets close, Jason startles, visibly terrified and hurt, and Danny hides them both from view and whisks Jason away to hide him.
Bruce let the Joker live-- and now Jason has killed the man and that horrified expression he caught on Bruce's face won't leave his head. He feels like a monster, destroyed with grief and hurt, and doesn't know what to do.
Danny takes Jason home, and he’s just a fucking Mess. When they get to the apartment Jazz is just about to leave. She was sleeping but the reverberating “wail” woke her and she’s been in a mad dash to grab all of their weapons to storm out and see what the hell has happened.
But right before she can leave, Danny appears with Jason in tow and all of Jazz's questions die on her tongue when she catches sight of the kid. Danny's told her a lot about Jason since he first met him-- and about the cemetery even before then-- and she's been trying to give advice and help out in whatever was she can from a distance. And now, seeing this kid actually here and just the sheer wreck that he is, she can't help but feel fiercely protective of him. She doesn't even know what happened down in the streets, just that Jason's in distress and needs help.
No questions asked, she helps Danny sit him down on the couch, wrap a blanket around him, and make some hot chocolate to try and get him to relax. She certainly has plenty of questions she Wants to ask, but that's not what's important right now. Right now she just has two severely shaken boys that need a safe place and time to calm down.
And even once she knows what happened, Jazz is nothing but supportive. Hell, she's happy to see the Joker is gone, but she doesn't focus on that because it's also not what's important. Instead she just does what she can to make a comfortable space and lets Jason know she's there to listen if he needs to talk.
And at first Jason is hesitant around Jazz-- and alarmed at first that Danny brought him to someone he doesn't know-- but Jazz is so patient and understanding. Jason can't help but relax around her. In a way it hurts, because it reminds him of his own family, but he'd rather have this than nothing, not knowing what reception he'd get back at the manor.
Danny's terrified Batman will want to hunt them both down. He knows this kid used to be Robin, but Jason's own reactions to Batman aren't making Danny feel more secure. If anything, he has a bone to pick with Batman himself now.
And Bruce is just left to reflect on what's happened, knowing that something of his son is still lingering. And he can't stop thinking of that Feeling the wail Jason made left in his chest. He keeps going back to his empty grave, hoping he might find him there. Hoping he might get to apologize to more than just the flowers.
Danny finds Bruce at the grave-- as Bruce, not Batman-- and he puts it together. He thinks he already knew it too, since while he refused to look up Jason Todd's name, it's Too Familiar.
Danny confronting Bruce angrily, expecting the man to rise to his challenge, but all he's met with is just a grieving father who desperately wants to see his son again.
And Bruce recognizes this kid and knows Danny knows where Jason is, but instead of demanding to know where he is he just asks if his son is okay. Because after feeling that wail and seeing what he saw that day, Bruce knows Jason must resent him. He doesn't even know what Jason is anymore, but he knows he's still the kid he loved and he's hurt and Bruce doesn't think he can fix that. He just wants to know if he's okay, and for Danny to tell him that he's sorry. That if Jason ever want to come home, the door will always be open.
Jason is terrified too cause he truly wanted to kill the Joker, but he didn't expect to If he was going to kill him, it would be in a way he could feel with his hands. But the way he did it was in an uncontrollable show of power that he's not sure he could have stopped.
And Danny keeps trying to reassure him that he not only will get a better hold on his powers, but that he's not a monster. That what happened wouldn't repeat itself because the only reason it happened in the first place was because that was the man who Killed Jason and ghosts are emotional beings. It’s still a struggle.
Unfortunately, the Fentons make their way to Gotham. News of what is clearly a ghost killing a person-- villain or not-- is big enough to reach them in Amity. Jazz and Danny were only in Gotham because the parents couldn’t stomach their son being Phantom-- assumed Phantom was overshadowing Danny and turned a moment of trust into one of betrayal. The siblings were trying to lay low, but... well it was Phantom that was seen with the other ghost.
The Fenton parents come to the town with an entire Arsenal and approach the Batman, going on and on about ghosts, how dangerous they are, and in particular how dangerous These ghosts are. They lament about the Death of their own son, and the entire time Bruce is just-- shocked. He wasn't even sure what Jason was, and while the word ghost does seem to fit it still feels like his heart breaking all over again.
And he can't forget how broken Jason seemed, and how protective this Phantom was of his son. He doesn't believe the Fentons, but he does Fear them. He fears what they might do, and that's when he learns about the GIW and that these people are acting Lawfully in telling him, to his face, that they want to hunt down his son.

You Keep Slipping From My Grasp 4/7
AO3
Ship: Spirit Halloween
first
prev
The rain fell heavily, washing the blood on the ground away as he stepped toward the woman. She was hunched over, sobbing, clutching her dead son to her chest. She glanced up at him as he approached, mouthing silent prayers.
“What happened here?” he asked, carefully ignoring the dead bodies around.
“They came… for a box my family has guarded for a long time. They killed my husband and my son, and they’ve taken my Catherine… They’ll torture her to make her speak its secrets. Please! Please, help her!”
She reached out a hand to him, imploringly. He crouched down to take it.
“I will.”
————
Danny stood before Clockwork, adjusting his new cowboy hat. Maddie and Jack stood behind Clockwork tinkering on the Fenton Omega Siphoner, and arguing over the aesthetics of the machine.
“I have already sent Dani out to help the Justice League locate Batman’s cape. Hopefully we should receive word on her success soon.” Clockwork began, “In the meantime, we do still need someone to make sure Batman doesn’t rush forward too quickly, lest he build up too much energy before we can stop him. Are you ready?”
“Always ready for bat-sitting duty. I’d hope he’s doing something  a bit calmer this time, but I suppose there’s no chance of that happening.” Danny responded, pointing to his hat.
Clockwork just gave his usual cryptic smile before opening a portal for Danny to step through.
————
“Roooooobin. Rooooooooobin.”
Tim whirled around, searching for the source of the noise.
“Oooh, new fit?” Poltergeist asked, stepping out of the shadows. “Ugly cowl, but I like the rest of it.”
Tim lowered his bo staff at her, readying himself for whatever chaotic ‘game’ she tried to rope him into this time.
“Your city’s on fire. You bats trying out some new defense mechanism or something? Like, you think no rogue would want to take over Gotham if it’s a pile of rubble and ash?” She turned in a circle, surveying the chaos Gotham was under.
“What do you want, Poltergeist?”
“Well, so like, Batman’s stuck in time, right? And-”
“How do you know that?!” Red Robin cut in. He had been struggling to convince everyone that Batman was still alive ever since he found those paintings on the walls of the Batcave. Suddenly, here was Poltergeist who seemed to know something about it, but he couldn’t trust her. She was unpredictable, and running into her could mean leaving with anything as benign yet uncomfortable as soaked socks or as irritating and hindering as being cursed to only speak dead languages for the next 3 days.
And things only got worse if she was tagging along with Klarion. Fortunately, he wasn’t in sight, so it's unlikely he was here with her.
“What do you want?”
She smiled slightly at him. “Oh! I want to get Batman back where he belongs before he dies or explodes everything.”
Explodes everything?
“I mean, Gotham’s got a grumpy quota and since you’re his mini-me I figured you’d start trying to take it on and that’d be so boring.” She raised her pointer fingers to the side of her head, imitating Batman’s cowl and adopted a nasally voice. “I don’t have time to play, Poltergeist. Gotham needs me. I have to go stalk Penguin, and then I need to go brood on my favorite gargoyle.”
“So you want to help me find Batman so that I will… be able to play with you?”
“Well, that, but also if he makes his way to the present day on his own, he’ll have built up enough of something called Omega Energy to make all of reality go ka-blooey, and I actually really like this universe. Top 10, easily.”
Tim held up his hand to stop the oncoming ramble while he compartmentalized.
First, Poltergeist knew Bruce was lost in the time stream and seemed to want to help.
Second, Bruce was making his way back to the present, and by doing so was becoming a living bomb
Third, Poltergeist is a multiversal being???
That last one can probably be ignored for now.
“If I were to let you help me find Batman, where do you suggest we start? I’ve been tracking down artifacts I think he’s left behind  to try and convince the Justice League to help us-”
“Psh. Justice League Shmustice League. My dad and my Nana and Pops are already working on it. We just need to find the cape he was sent back in time with for them. Besides, I can probably convince Wonder Woman to help us get the Justice Dorks to help out once we get the cape if we really need to.”
What.
“What?”
“My grandparents are building a thingy-thing to suck all the Omega Energy out of Batman so he’s not a bomb. My dad’s hanging out with him to keep him from dying or something, and we’re supposed to find his cape so we can safely yoink him out of the time stream.”
“I didn’t know you had parents??? What do they do while you’re here breaking things???”
Poltergeist shrugged “King things I guess. And I only have a dad.”
“King things???”
She rolled her eyes, “Anyway, Dad said he last saw Batman’s cape in the Batcave.”
“You didn’t answer my question, and I’m not taking you to the Batcave.”
Poltergeist landed on her feet, and stared at him with wide eyes. He stared back, caught in her gaze for what felt like an eternity, as he felt invisible fingers trickle up his spine. Whispers started low in his ears, building to a crescendo. It was getting too much to bear, until he broke eye contact and looked away. All of a sudden, it stopped. Tim heaved a big sigh.
“I’m… kinda fighting with the current Batman, so we’ll have to sneak in.”
She punched both arms into the air, “YES!”
Tim turned, flicking his cape and walking off, not waiting to see if she’d follow.
“Poltergeist, when this is over you are going to be answering my questions.”
He heard her blow a raspberry at his back, but kept walking.
————
He followed their trail easily enough, the rain trailing after him. As he reached his destination, men came out to fight him, readying pistols, but he made short work of them easily enough.
With his memory having returned in bits and pieces, it had been easy to fashion metal into bat shapes aerodynamic enough to hit true when thrown, and it was these he’d used to disarm the men.
These memories were useful. The ones of children with blurry faces less so, haunting him as they stayed just out of his complete grasp. A constant reminder of how lost and alone he was.
He steadily made his way to the headquarters, where he figured they were keeping Catherine. He whirled around, sensing someone approaching from behind. It was the man with white hair, again.
“Seems you’ve got this well enough in hand, but I hope you don’t mind if I’d tag along all the same.”
“Why?”
The white haired man smiled slightly. “Will you not believe that I just want to help you?”
He stared, unblinking and quiet. Memories from before had proven this a good method to get more information.
His target stared back, also quiet and unblinking. It wasn’t long before he started shifting, and not much longer before he finally spoke again. Under his breath, almost too quiet to hear, he muttered “Just like Dani, I swear…”
Louder, the man said, “I’ve not known you to be the kind of man to ever be on the wrong side of a cause. Whatever you’re up to, I just want to help.”
He squinted at the man, trying to find any evidence of a lie, but the man just appeared open and honest.
“No guns,” he says, before turning back around and leading the white haired man on towards the headquarters.
As they got closer, they noticed two men standing guard. He deployed smoke bombs to cover their approach, sneaking closer with his companion close behind. They were spotted, but the smoke did its work, scaring the two guards and allowing him and his companion to disappear from view again.
“How you gonna tell me there’s no such things as ghosts now???” One of them whimpered, apparently to his white-haired friend’s delight, as he broke out in giggles.
As the smoke continued to grow, he and his friend snuck around the two, tricking them into fighting each other.
He broke through into the offices in the back. They were unfortunately empty.
“Already gone!” He said, slamming a hand on the desk. His companion stood at the window.
“Not long though, look!”
When he spotted their carriage speeding away through the window, he knew he had to act quickly. He launched himself out of the window, and onto the tarp covering the wagon.
An explosion sounded behind him, but he focused on the task ahead of him. His friend always seemed to find his way back, so he’d have to trust he’d do it again.
The ensuing fight was nothing pretty, little more than mad scrambling as he fought to hold his balance, dodge bullets, and wrestle the men actually in the cart so he could get away with the Catherine and her family’s box.
Looking ahead, he saw they were quickly approaching the dock, and a man who was walking down it. Thinking quickly, he swung his body-weight around, tipping the wagon over and sending everyone sprawling.
The man who had been at the dock had acted quickly, grabbing the young woman and holding her protectively behind him. He stood up, adding to the obstacles that stood protecting Catherine from her kidnappers. Only 3 men remained. From the snippets he heard as two of them fought, he figures the two fighting must’ve been the masterminds behind the plot and the third still in the distance was a gun-for-hire. Taking out his weapons of choice, he quickly dispatched the two men.
Catherine tugged on his cloak. He turned to face her, seeing that she had opened up the box, and was showing him what was inside.
It was Jack Valor’s journal.
He wanted to reach out–to see what Jack had added since they parted, but the gun-for-hire had caught up to them by then.
“My employers may have been dealt with, but I still have a reputation to uphold. Draw.”
He stood up straight, reaching for more of his weapon of choice. Over the shoulder of the gun-for-hire, he saw another man approaching quickly, white-haired. His friend.
A loud bang echoed, and he felt pain in his side. He stumbled, too close to the edge of the dock, and as he fell over he heard one last cry of ‘BAT–’.
And everything went dark.
————
Shit.
Shit. Shit. SHIT.
As if Batman stumbling towards the present through who-knows-when wasn’t bad enough, now he’s SHOT???
Danny quickly ripped a portal back to Clockwork’s lair.
“Please tell me you’ve almost got the machine ready.” Danny said after confirming his parents were in the room.
“Almost! Just one problem, sweetie…” His mom said, looking over at her husband so he’d finish.
“Batman needs to die. Or at least be very close to death!” Jack said, ending with a laugh.
“Basically, we can get this machine to suck out the Omega Energy, but it’s tightly bonded with Batman’s life energy, so it’s extremely risky unless we can find a way to diminish his life energy.”
Danny groaned, putting his face in his hands. “It’s just one thing after another! He’s just been shot. Would that bring him close enough?”
His dad tilted his head back and forth, considering. “Likely not, unless he was in a pretty bad way. In any case, we asked Sam and Tucker to take a look into it!”
“We’ve already found something, actually.” Sam said, having entered the room. Tucker followed behind her.
“There’s an herb that I was able to locate, which should slow his heart down to extreme levels, to the point his heartbeat would be pretty undetectable. Only problem is that his heart would have to be jump-started afterward by a great shock.”
“Clockwork let me take a closer look at his monitors into Batman’s original time and place, and I was able to determine that they have defibrillator technology that can administer an electrical shock needed to get his heart pumping again, as well as adrenaline injections in case we’d need the extra boost.” Tucker continued.
Maddie clapped her hands together. “Excellent! If we can get the Justice League to set up the anchor point on the Watchtower, we can pull Batman to that point and perform everything there! It’d probably work best to do it in his original time as well, to avoid any potential effects that could crop up from being in the wrong time when we remove the Omega Energy and try to stabilize his system.”
“Great, some good news.” Danny said, tension leaving his body. He turned to Clockwork, who had been quiet thus far. “How’s Dani’s work coming along? Will we be ready to proceed soon?”
“Dani and Red Robin have recovered Batman’s cape, and have moved it to the Watchtower. I believe Dani was able to recruit Wonder Woman’s help into getting the rest of the Justice League in line to receive Batman.”
 ————
“Red Robin! Did you seriously bring Poltergeist into the cave??? What were you thinking?”
Before Tim could reply, Poltergeist raised a hand to point at Dick-as-Batman.
“AAH! It’s the cops! Run!”
Poltergeist placed her hand on Tim’s shoulder, pulling him and the cape through the ceiling of the batcave and up in the open air of Gotham. As Tim caught sight of Wayne Manor his head whipped towards Poltergeist, hoping she wouldn’t make any connections.
She was staring at him, lips pressed together, looking a bit like a frog.
He was quiet, waiting for her to say something.
She blew a breath of air out, letting her lips buzz.
“Listen, you keep my secret, and I won’t tell anyone Batman’s secret id is some rich fruitloop.”
“...What secret?”
She pivoted them somewhere Southeast.
“That sometimes I can be responsible. Let’s go see Wonder Woman.”
AN:
It's definitely been longer than I had planned since the last update, rip.
Not going to lie, this is like my second ever fic and I definitely thought it'd be a bit easier to get back into the habit of writing. Thought I was making it easier on my self by strongly sticking to the plot of an existing story, but I think that's been an obstacle in and of itself.
Always a little worried that the language is a bit stuffy or things aren't being clear.

one of you, I don’t remember who but if it was you then here you go, mentioned Ellie befriending Ace. it took me a minute to realise that you probably meant the psychic little girl and not the pirate, but… now that I think about it, that’s actually a really good idea.
first off, I’m going to start by saying that I barely remember anything about Ace except hat she was super psychic, scared the Joker shitless once (good for her), and I think ended up dying as a result of her powers overloading her brain. I also remember Batman stayed with her until she died, but past that, nothing! so if my interpretation of her is off, well, that ain’t Via’s problem.
picture this: Ellie, approximately 14 in physical terms, only been alive for like a year or two. it’s post-Portal Incident II: The Reckoning, so her body is stabilized but her powers are going bat-crazy. she’s alone in an unfamiliar city with far too many restless spirits, being chased by actual supervillains, and she’s scared. maybe she ducks into an alley or hides in an abandoned building, and maybe one of those spirits was watching.
it’s been a long time since anything has caught Ace’s attention in the mortal realm. she likes to check in from time to time, see what’s happening as the world moves on without her, but it’s useless to linger over what she can’t affect. in the end, it only ever makes her miserable.
but sometimes, she can’t help but watch. sometimes, like today, she sees another little girl in trouble. she thinks, ‘she’s like me’, and she needs to know that this girl makes it through the night. even if she doesn’t, Ace still has enough power in death to show her a good dream before another ghost is added to Gotham’s countless number of lost souls. she follows the girl into the building, watches as she curls up in the corner, out of sight and barely there.
and then she looks straight at Ace.
“Did you want something?” Ellie asks, and she doesn’t break eye contact with the spirit floating in the doorway, even as her eyes go wide. “If you have unfinished business, I might be able to help, y’know, so long as you’re not trying to cause trouble.”
“You can see me.”
“Sure can. Kinda hard not to, your outfit’s pretty distinct.”
It’s the outfit she died in. Ace doesn’t really want to wear it anymore, not when she’s so far removed from that era of her life, but it isn’t like she knows how to.
“So,” Ellie says, “what’s your deal? Are you just here to watch it are you picking a fight? ‘Cause I’ll warn you, I don’t know how to play poker and everyone else so far has refused to reach me.”
Ace blinks. “I’m not here to fight with you.”
“Okay, cool. Are you… here to fight someone else?”
“No. I was watching you.”
“Well, that’s a bit unsettling.”
“You were alone, and you looked cold. I had to make sure you weren’t going to die in here.”
“Again?” Mutters Ellie, and Ace’s expression snaps from intrigued to guarded in less than a second.
“What does that mean?” She asks, glaring right at Ellie, and the other girl grimaces.
“Did not mean to say that one out loud. Okay, so hi, I’m Ellie, and basically I’m dead—”
“What? No, you’re not. I would be able to tell if you were dead.”
“Half-dead, then. I was a clone OFA guy who was half human and half ghost, ‘cept I was falling apart, so I decided to fix it by doing the same thing he did to become half-ghost, and I ended up standing inside a portal to the Ghost Zone while it was opening. Make sense so far?”
Ace’s jaw is dropping, but she can’t seem to find it in herself to care. “Half-dead.”
“Oh, we’re still stuck on that, then. Basically, if you— actually never mind, I don’t really know how it works. I can turn from ghost to human, if that helps.”
“How?” Ace whispers. “You said you were… falling apart. And a clone. And half-dead.”
“Well, now I’ve got two out of those three, since I fixed the first problem. Do you want to maybe sit down or something? This is gonna be a long story if you want the whole thing.”
Yes, she absolutely does. Ace float across the room and settles in next to Ellie, folding her knees up to copy the other girl’s pose. “My name is Ace.”
“Nice to meet you, Ace. I’m Ellie. Wait, I think I said that already.”
Somewhere on the other side of Crime Alley, unknowing of the two girls hidden away in a long-forgotten corner, Edward Nygma slams his head down on the desk as he once again fails to pinpoint the location of the mysterious white-haired girl.

DPxDC Idea:
Okay so I've seen some posts about the idea that Johny was/is Jason's ghost when he was still dead before the pits fully revived him and all the shenanigans that could cause. Now that is interesting, but instead I raise you - Johny and Jason are serrated unrelated people, with a shared specter in common.
Because 13 is Jason's ghost.
The Lazarus pit clearly didn't bring everything back, and it filled in the gaps where something was missing with pit madness until he could regain his memories through word of mouth from his friends and family, but that doesn't really help that there is still a part of him that is just. Gone.
Robin is dead.
In both the living and the infinite, he is no longer the same, when he died he was gone for good.
In the living world he became Red Hood, but in the ghost zone? He's 13.
Literally, he's 13 forever now, that's how old he was when he died, and he does not want to grow up or change.
It's why he's a shadow, it's why he's so mischievous and it's why he attached himself to the first cool ghost he could find and made himself a sidekick again.
He wasn't Robin anymore, couldn't be, but he was still everything that Robin is.
So!
13 is tagging along with Johny as usual to cause chaos, in a new city to boot to avoid Phantom.
Or, well, Johny says its new, but as they get there 13 realizes exactly where he is.
And he wants to leave, needs them to leave because he can't be here, not again!
But then he feels a pull.
And he runs off into crime alley, forcing Johny to follow.
Johny doesn't want the little guy to get into trouble without him in a city he knows nothing about.
So Jaosn and Johny meet, they figure out just what 13 is and who he was and.
So what do you call a reverse custody battle? Because yeah that's kinda what happens.
Jason is scared to even acknowledge this part of him even still exists in any capacity, let alone reconnect with it in some fucked up adoptive father son relationship, he refuses to follow in B's footsteps.
Johny argues he's more akin to 13's bio dad in this situation if anything, and that as the adoptive dad who steeped tf up when his shade needed him, he's not too thrilled about 13 wanting to spend time away from home to get to know the new Jason either, but he also knew how much he needed it (and not that he cared or whatever but Jason likely needed it too) and he wants gonna keep his little buddy from his counterpart.
They argue like this back and forth until Johnny says he'll just have to stay in Gotham for a while and Jason had better come visit his son or Johny is personally gonna kick his ass.
They deal with their fears and insecurities together, Johny learns to let go and allow 13 to be his own lil guy, Jason gets to reparent himself and heal emotionally and spiritually, as in, literally heal his spirit, and 13 gets two cool dads and a new sense of identity, although he very much still prefers his shadow form.
Also Jason/Johny/Kitty polycule because I think that'd be cool.

The Fine Print part 3
A dpxdc universe travel fic featuring Grandma Xandau [link], Mama Helena Bertinelli [link], reincarnated Ghost King Danny and Father John Constantine [part 1] and [part 2]
If you try the links please let me know if they don't work.
Danny followed John Constantine through Gotham, a block away and easily blending into the crowd. It was good to be home, after the past few months he spent tracking the elusive occult detective down across the continent.
What would bring him to Gotham in the first place? Danny had no clue in all honesty.
Gotham was his Haunt. While the Batclan dealt with the normal threats to the city, Danny had been dealing with the paranormal threats. Gotham was huge though, and Danny wasn't even fourteen yet. If he had missed something that Batman called Constantine to fix...
Danny pulled a Crypt candy from his pocket, letting the hard sugary ectoplasm sooth his overactive imagination.
He didn't have anything to be ashamed of, at least not recently. If Batman was only now suspecting the Joker's death had Occult orgins, then it might not be a high priority case to solve. And Danny didn't regret what happened to the Joker. It was an accident...mostly.
Danny started trying to untangle Gotham's Cursed Nexus last year. He underestimated how cursed his City was though, and thought it would be like untangling soul curses. He knew a lot about that, as Ghost King he had to be. Souls couldn't move on if their soul was cursed, and it was painful for a ghost to exist if they were only existing in the Realms because of a curse.
But Gotham, while similar, was different. First of all, Gotham was in a living realm. Secondly Gotham was such an Old city, with generations of families that lived and died here, so full of the living and their emotions, so full of culture and personality...Gotham should have a City Spirit. But the Curse was draining the energy that would go towards the City Spirit to nourish itself.
Danny had grabbed a fistful of the Curses and he just overpowered it. The strands fraying and snapping. It cleared just enough to see inside the knotted tangle of curses, a baby City Spirit struggling to form.
He hadn't even known the Joker was part of the Curses that plauged the city, though hindsight made it pretty obvious. The Joker had been murdered, had died, several times according to the Justice League database. But somehow he kept being brought back to life.
Since Danny shattered the Joker's connection to the City Curse, he would not be coming back.
If Batman had an issue with that, Danny would drag his egotistical ass to the City Spirit so he could explain to the soul of his home why she deserved to suffer-
Danny crunches the candy between his teeth. A forcefully calm breath.
Untangling the Curses was going to take longer than he had assumed last year. Yet he was making progress! There was no need to get John Constantine involved.
Danny followed the blond to Wayne Mansion.
Whatever Batman had to say to the Foreigner Constantine, he could say to the Gotham Resident Constantine too.
What's the worst Batman could do anyway? Say no? Call his mom?
Danny wasn't sure Batman knew his mom's Civilian phone number though it would be funny if he did. It was about time mom had the chance to demand child support anyway.

The spirit of Gotham is a wonderful concept and whoever thought of it I love you.
DC x DP prompt
The spirit of Gotham has had many different ghosts holding the title. The current and dare say true title holders are Martha Wayne and her husband Thomas Wayne. They love their city and their son and grandchildren who protect it. It was an emotional time when Jason Todd became a title holder. Even when he was brought back, the realms wouldn't let him discard the title. Gotham is just as much his as he is Gotham.
Oh man, there is so many Spirit of Gotham fics out there that I’m not sure which one you’re specifically talking about, there is that fucking incredible fic I remember someone writing with Martha and Thomas adopting Danny as his ghostly guardians as the ghosts of their city but I can’t find it for the life of me :(.
This is just wonderful. Any Gothamite out there just intrinsically trusts and respects Danny and feels comforted by his presence. There are whispers of a ghost child and his two parents that flit about Gotham helping those in need and down on their luck.
I personally love the idea that time is nonlinear for ghosts, there’s this website called the hypnogogic archives that I’ve been reading recently and they proposed the idea that ghost could exist before the person even died. They are ever-present because their deaths were destined to be and always will happen so their ghosts appear long before their own deaths.
Young Jason has met the Wayne’s in Crime Alley and they helped nudge the kid to find the Batmobile that one fateful night.
So the first time he sees these apparitions in his older years, he remembers them but cant quite place it.
Then he remembers.
The paintings in Wayne Manor.
Those are his grandparents.
With a ghostly kid that isn’t his dad.
What.

Batman Au idea
Where Bruce becomes the literal spirit of Gotham. Maybe there used to be another spirit that passed it to him, maybe he was always the spirit, maybe he ascended to it as the Bat become near synonymous to the city itself.   He’s gotten injured so many times, in so many ways that should kill him, render him bedridden for weeks, yet it never keeps him down. Something entwined with his very being says he needs to be out on the streets, on the skyline, in the shadows of the alleys and hidden on the roofs of the buildings, that he can’t just lay there and do nothing. So he doesn’t.   He couldn’t deal with Jason’s death, it would break him. He couldn’t, so Jason couldn’t die, he wouldn’t. The Lazarus pits may have been used to heal him, but it wasn’t what brought him back.   The joker has died. Died many, many times, only to be brought back again and again and again. Because death would be too kind to him. Some part of Bruce whispers about how something far worse will happen if the Joker stays dead, because it will no longer be in his control on if they stay that way.   The only reason he appears human is because he still believes himself to be so.

DP HC - Halfa Biology
Halfas are an interesting case no matter what you're talking about.
For instance, they have a psychological makeup similar to humanoid Ecto-Forms (a.k.a. spirits of the dead that came to the Ghost Zone & formed an ectoplasmic core & body), but the psychological stability of Ecto-Sapiens (a.k.a. lifeforms that evolved as living organisms inside the GZ & were never part of the living realms) or Ecto-Liminals.
Halfas are actually considered both True Ecto-Liminals & Actual Ghosts while also being something entirely new & separate from liminality.
Liminal is defined as relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process. Or occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold.
There are many types of liminal. For instance, those with psychic powers are considered Psycho-Liminals while magic-users such as Wizards, Wiccans, Warlocks, Witches, & Sorcerers are Magi-Liminals & Mediums are Spirit-Liminals. There are percentages of liminal & the higher the percentage, the more power you have.
Being ecto-liminal & being a halfa are 2 distinctly different yet interconnected things. Ecto-liminals are ecto-contaminated & have a connection to ectoplasm & ghosts, but no real connection to death as you don't need to actually experience death to be ecto-liminal.
On the other hand, halfas are intrinsically connected to death, having experienced it themselves. You cannot be a halfa without dying. And all halfas are also liminal because that ecto-contamination greatly increases the chances of a core forming between death & resurrection, which is exactly how halfas are created. The higher the percentage of ecto in the body, the higher the chances of this happening.
There is normally no way to artificially increase one's liminality in a single lifetime as it takes several generations of continuous exposure to get a high enough level. Vlad was actually extremely lucky as he'd grown up in an ecto-free area & had no hunter ancestors to increase it for him. If not for the ecto-acne (which was actually a form of ecto-herpies), he would've died for good. Ecto-herpies is the only real way to increase one's level of ecto-contamination quickly enough to maybe become halfa in a first gen liminal, but even with that, Vlad still had very low liminality & it was only due to having become a lugat that he was resurrected & became a halfa.
The yetis of the Far Frozen are full Ecto-Liminals (otherwise called Pseudo-Ghosts), their society was a sort of creature made of magic that had wandered through a natural portal eons ago & began to live in the GZ. The first generation died of ecto-poisoning, but before that their children were born & became resistant. As more generations passed, they adapted & even eventually began to develop pseudo-cores of their own & be able to manipulate the ectoplasm around them so long as they're in areas with high levels of ambient ectoplasm.
There are a couple things that they can do without ambient ectoplasm. Things that directly involve the body, such as stronger base physical stats, the ability to touch ghosts, see better in the dark, slow your fall, effect one's object permanence in regards to one's self, ect. The higher an Ecto-Liminal's percentage of liminality & the higher the ambient ectoplasm, the more powerful or effective these things will be. At full liminality & high-levels of ectoplasm, you basically have night vision, superhuman capabilities, the ability to glide & even hover for short periods, as well as go intangible, for short periods. Plus, they also have access to low-levels of psychic or elemental powers. At medium-levels of ectoplasm, you can go invisible also for short periods.
An area considered to have very high-levels of ambient ectoplasm would be Amity & places with mid-to-slightly-high levels would, surprisingly, be Gotham City & Nanda Parbat. You see, before the Fentons opened a portal to the Infinite Realms in their basement, Amity was a medium. What do these places all have in common? They all have a Lazarus Pit of their own, which are basically Ghost Zone Compost Piles. Though, the one in Nanda Parbat has been corrupted with necromantic & other dark magics while the ones in Gotham & Amity are not & filter into the drinking water & causes strange mental effects. Things like unusually high emotions & slight obsessiveness in things they like.
Obviously, the IR is considered a place with super-high-levels of ectoplasm, so these powers are even more powerful there & they're able to use them more frequently.
Now, they're not Halfas, but the Far Frozen are the closest thing to Halfa you can get without actually being one. By this I mean, that they don't have ectoplasm in their very DNA, nor do they have ectoplasm living in literally every cell in their body thus giving them Ecto-Sapianic alternate forms like Halfas do or even Obsessions. Instead, they have something called Fixations which are like Obsessions, but less compulsive & easier to handle.
Halfas have both. For instance, Danny is Obsessed with protecting people, but he's also Fixated on space. Meanwhile, Vlad is Obsessed with having a family of his own that loves & understands him & he has a Fixation on power (he believes that money gives one power). Ellie is Obsessed with finding a family that will love her (much like Vlad), but her Fixation is freedom & enjoying life.
A halfa's Fixation can sometimes effect how one goes about achieving their Obsession. In Vlad's case, his Fixation on power & his belief that money gives power, as well as his personal experiences gives him the mistaken belief that he can gain a loving family by obtaining power. This is obviously not the case.
On the other hand, Ellie's Fixation with freedom effects her Obsession because by fulfilling her Fixation, which she is under the mistaken idea that freedom refers to the ability to go wherever whenever, so, as she travels all over the world, she ends up actively searching for a family.
Anyway, this makes the Far Frozen the best able to handle Danny's medical problems. Even so, they don't know anything about actual Halfas & are still learning.
This is somewhat inspired by @five-rivers & their ideas on liminality.
Danny is exceedingly rare because he is perfectly 100/100 ghost & human making him not just full Ecto-Liminal with an Ecto-Sapianic alternate form, but he also has a true core rather than a pseudo one & can sustain himself almost indefinitely by converting his own thoughts & feelings into ectoplasm provided he pace himself in areas of low ectoplasm.
By Ecto-Sapianic alternate form, I mean that Danny has ectoplasm in every cell of his body & when he switches to Phantom, that ectoplasm activates. It's something like matter conversion I think.
Actual ectoplasmic cells are something entirely unique to halfas.
Like, even as a ghost, he still has a heart that beats (though a lot less), lungs that breathe (also a lot less), bones, kidneys, even blood, & they all perform the same functions as when he's human. It's just that it's ectoplasmic in nature now.
That isn't to say that he's complety human in human form. There is always a number of ectoplasmic blood cells active. This causes a Halfa's blood to be slightly darker & their hearts beat a bit slower. In ghost form, they have legitimate, liquidy blood, ectoplasm-based though it may be, rather than the thick, goopy raw ectoplasm that Ecto-Forms have.
However, due to having human organs in both forms, halfas still need to breath, eat, & sleep. While they breath much less than humans & as much sleep as a human, they actually require more food than humans in a similar way to how Speedsters do. The reason being their metabolisms.
Ghosts can't eat human food, but they do eat ectoplasmic food. While in the living realms where there is no ectoplasmic food, they fall back on the emotional vampirism that ghosts are known for as the emotions of the living, as well as satisfying their Obsessions, help to sustain them when food isn't available.
Except, halfas need both human & ghost food, as well as to satisfy their Obsessions in order to be truly healthy.
Moving on, Halfas are actually supposed to retain their more human-like appearance with fleshy skin color even in ghost form, but instead of pink or red flushing (like, not only embarrassment, just places where the blood is closer to the surface) their flushing will match whatever color of ectoplasmic blood they have. So, if you were to look into their mouths, you'd see varying darker shapes of whatever color their blood is.
Danny & Dani are both examples of having human-like coloring.
Sure, once halfa puberty hits, they begin to develop slightly more ghostly features such as sharp teeth, which can come out in various ways, including fangs, full canines, shark-like, ect. Also, slightly pointed, elf-like ears, then tongues & claws of varying types, & slitted pupils. Ears & pupils are the only things consistent in shape.
For instance, Vlad grew fangs, a snake-like tongue, & talon-like claws.
The claws are supposed to be retractable while sharp teeth can be somewhat so, however mental instability & moral bankruptcy hampers this.
You see, a ghost's outward appearance is greatly influenced by how they see themselves, but Halfas are more affected by their mental faculties.
When a Halfa loses sight of themselves or their Obsession controls them rather than the other way around, their eyes turn entirely one color, their skin changes color, & they can't retract their fangs or claws. In cases where they become evil, their eyes turn blood red. Oddly, evil & crazy can be mutually exclusive. So, there are instances where one is sane, yet evil, at which point, their eyes are like Dan's are. See, he isn't actually crazy, he's just angry with severe mental issues, & evil. He knows exactly what he's doing, he just doesn't care. Vlad while he is unhinged, is also not insane, but he does let his Obsession control him & he's evil. Dan is different in that he controls his Obsession, but still indulges it far more than he should.
Anyway, even if they regain stability & come back to themselves, their appearance won't go back to what it was. The experience left a visible scar. Yes, they'll regain a more fleshy skin tone, but it'll still hold a slight colored hue to it. Their sclera, iris, & pupil will be able to be differentiated again, but the sclera will never be white again & the iris will also be a different color. Their claws may be able to retract depending on the person, but not their sharper teeth.
This is simply something they'll have to live with for the rest of their lives.
So, if Vlad had never lost his gourd, he'd look more like this:
Tumblr media
Also, Halfas retain their deathmark. It's like a birthmark, but it's what caused a Halfa to initially die. Which, yes, you have to die in order to become a Halfa. There is no other way. You don't have to stay dead, in fact that's part of the process, but you do have to die.
It's best done quickly & with electricity. The revival that is. You don't want to wait too long before being brought back or you could remain dead.
So, if you looked, you could find lichtenberg scars under Phantom's suit. They start from the palm of his hand, go up his arm & across his chest, before stopping at his heart. They glow a bright white-green with core-plasm & brighten & dim & brighten again with his every heartbeat.
Not to mention his wail. If you recorded it & used sound tech, his friends would realize that it was the exact sound he made when he died in the portal. It's the sound of an infinity of pain in a single moment stretched out & distorted.
Each created Halfa gets a powerful attack based on that exact moment when it happened.
As such, Ellie might not get one because she was made that way & thus never had to experience death. She could end up getting the Ghostly Wail via inheritance or if you want, you could say that she actually did die when she destabilized. In such a situation, her death attack could be something involving acid.
As for Vlad, it could be difficult to determine what his would be because we don't actually know how he died. Like, we saw the moment he was infected with ecto-acne, but we didn't see what took his life in the end, nor how he was revived (though, I hc that he was revived as a lugat due to his desire to be loved was so great, rather than a human), just that it was likely in a hospital. Though, I think we can safely say that (in the case of him not turning into a lugat) he was likely revived via defibrillator. So, his attack could involve electricity, but it could also involve venom/acid based on the fact that his transformation began when he was sprayed in the face by diet soda-infused portal goo.
Not to mention that neither Vlad nor Ellie are full 100/100 Halfas. Vlad is more 45/100 in favor of human (or lugat) while Ellie is 95/75 in favor of ghost because of the way she was cloned using mostly ghostly methods & not a mix of ghostly & organic. So, they naturally have less potential for power than Danny.
But that's only part of why he's so op. Another reason is because he's always fighting. Vlad is a businessman & Ellie's a traveler. Neither are very likely to encounter opposition on a daily basis the way Danny does & they do say that experience is the best teacher.
Not to mention, Danny was younger than Vlad when he became a Halfa. Just starting puberty in fact & puberty alone results in a lot of growth. Vlad was all-but fully grown when it happened to him, so he had less room to grow & adapt to his new genetics.
All this results in Danny very quickly catching up to Vlad.

I am Batman Part 4
Alright so- Justice League.
In my personal Batman Canon, Dick is about 14 (and Bruce/Bryce is 27) when the JL forms or at least, Batman and Superman first team up. (Plus uhhh I think Damian is conceived here. In this AU, it's Ra's who has been watching Batman find out that Batman is human and then stealing some DNA.)
There's always a MILLION reasons why they team up so fuck it, let's go with alien invasion.
Shapeshifters. Martians? I like legit watched ONE old cartoon for ten minutes with Manhunter and that's the reason.
Or whoever attacked them?
...yeah no shapeshifting aliens invading it is.
Manhunter approaches Superman first and then Wonder Woman. They begin hunting for others to help. It's Green Arrow and Flash who bring up Batman, the spirit in Gotham. they aren't sure if it'll work, but they need to try.
Bryce would like it known she doesn't like this. But she does come to them as the bat, creeping behind them, silent as a grave to growl and hiss at them. Talon cackles from a streetlight as Batgirl, named by the media, laughs her high laugh from a billboard.
"What do you want?" the shadow asks the heroes. "We have nothing for you here..."
Because it's true. The rogues that Batman fights are Penguin still, the man in and out of jail, with Riddler appearing alongside Condiment King and Kiteman. Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze have also appeared, though Poison Ivy seems more invested in convincing Batman to join her in her goals. Mr. Freeze just wonders how many of the spirits died due to illness. Bryce knows more will come soon.
She just doesn't know when. (this is my canon for Batman. 'safe' rogues were appearing first, then we get the really dangerous ones. Poison ivy is dangerous as fuck, but I prefer the headcanon she isn't as bad as some others.)
"We need your help, if you can." it's explained and then... for some reason... they think she is a spirit. She doesn't understand. She really doesn't- how can they not? Doesn't Manhunter read minds? What's going on. But they need to focus first.
Batman appears with the others, fighting off aliens. The few media drones who catch the battle hear the hissing of the Spirit, the entity, as it growls and snaps. It is GOTHAM and even the crime in the city stalls, watching with baited breath.
Bryce would like it known that she is NOT a fan of fighting shapeshifting aliens. She does it, but fuck is it bad. She's also you know, worried why no one sees through her.
They win though, with some help from Batgirl. Barbara isn't Oracle, but her genius knows little match (a young boy with a camera who watches the news with squinted eyes outclasses her, but it is only by a small amount). They win, and in the end the Justice League is formed.
They still end up with all their snazzy things and stuff cause the government, Clark's Alien tech, Diana's riches, Bryce's more liquid money and Green Arrow's money helps.
Bryce presses at the group, wondering why no one notices anything. Why they don't react to her. She even goes to Metropolis to see if Clark can recognize her. He doesn't. (And if it leads to a one night stand, well she does it for bragging rights and the chance to see how that stamina affects him). It is here she learns the truth:
They all fully believe Batman is a bunch of souls formed by Gotham. there are all sorts of questions how he can leave Gotham that Batman slaps a: magic and cause world needs me to on. They accept it.
There is a bunch of research about the phenomenon, as Bryce tries to understand how it works.
Also, like while this happens Dick ends up forming the Teen Titans at age fifteen and suddenly Bryce is dealing with baby superheroes and also parenting with the other JL members who have sidekicks.
"Talon is a child. He may be a spirit but..."
"Oh no, we get it." "Wait, you guys eat?"
It's fun. But back to the weirdness. As I said, it's either magic or Gotham.
I actually like Eldritch horror Gotham more then 'magic Bryce' so fuck it. Gotham has a personification who tracks down Bryce to explain shit. Said personification ends up basically living on the farm and keeps leading Bryce to more riches in the underground caves in Gotham. Which awesome, more money- how the fuck did no one FIND THIS SHIT GOTHAM?
... Gotham is a wine aunt and enabler for all of Bryce's children and flirts with Alfred.
Gotham protects Bryce and helps shift her aura and prevent people from going into her head. Gotham protects Dick and Barbara to as time goes on. At times as well, a shift of a wall, a loose floorboard, an easy to each gargoyle saves them each time. The family is thankful.
Gotham is still an enabler though.
Times goes on, and suddenly Bryce is dealing with more teenage bullshit. Talon convinces the titans he can have sex/kiss people and suddenly he's dating Starfire, and Batgirl is upset and Batman wants a drink please.
Dick finds himself banished to chop wood or clean the coop a few times. Bryce doesn't care WHAT you do Dick, just don't do it where someone sees and complains to her.
Then he breaks up with Starfire before dating Kid Flash. Bryce wants a refund on teenagers. Alfred laughs at her and Gotham teaches Dick places to hide.
However, Dick breaks up with KF for the reason he breaks up with Starfire: he will never tell them who he is.
Bryce watches as Barbara finally makes a move she's been slowly wanting to for a while. It's cute.
Bryce does have to get a hose a few times though, and now both are cleaning the barn. You break the rules of NOT doing that in the public areas of the house and you get punished.
Dick is seventeen when Bryce finds a young boy stealing tires. Not her tires, but some tires.
She isn't surprised to know who it is.
Part 5... soonish.

Marvel X DC
Some years ago there were Amalgam Comics, where the characters were mashups of a Marvel and a DC character. I haven't read those, this is not that. Unless I accidentally hit on the same combos, though that seems unlikely.
So far it's just a few. Maybe later I'll have more ideas. We'll see.
Thomas Wayne is Sorcerer Supreme. His wife and son died during a mugging gone wrong. The police eventually found him beating the robber's unrecognizably-mangled corpse, having also destroyed his own hands after apparently several hours of that.
Medical science could not return him his hands, so he sought mystical alternatives, falling for several charlatans but eventually reaching the real thing, learning magic, being the best at it and etc etc.
Also I guess the Sanctum Sanctorum is in Gotham City, it was undefended for a few centuries, which is why the city is Like That.
Gwen Stacy is Star-spider. With spider powers, and Stargirl's staff, so she can swing and hang from it. Also it's the "tame symbiote" version, because she's cool. Honestly, my favourite spider hero, so far.
She should have a cartoon.
She'd wear the Gwenom outfit, minus the teeth, plus little stars and nebulae all over the black parts.
Also I guess (retired?) Captain George Stacy can be her sidekick, S.T.R.I.P.E. (formerly known as War Machine).
Diana Prince is The Immortal Iron Fist, defender of Themyscira, sworn enemy of the Hand. She's a local, not some tourist; they thought the Hand was defeated until Steve Trevor reached them, and from his ramblings they figured out they were active in the wider world, so she decided to leave to hunt them.
Danny the Ambulance is Ghost Ride. Host of the Spirit of Vengeance, but there's no rider, it's just him.
Casey the EMT is a Runaways OC, created after Danny had an adventure with them. She understands she's not part of their backstory, even if they are part of hers, so she carefully stays away, even if she can't help missing them.
Then the Runaways, I don't know their names, sorry, but the witch and the shining alien should be Raven and Starfire, respectively. And the Staff of One is now the Staff of Trigon, naturally. I suppose the rest of them should also be Titans.
There's a weapon maker's kid, that could be Cyborg, easy enough. Probably a less visually obvious cyborg, at least at first?
There's a crime boss' kid, that's Dick Grayson. Since there's no Batman he was instead adopted by a rival of the gangster that killed his parents. And who also happens to be a member of the Pride.
There's a strong girl, that's Terra.
And the last one is a time traveller's kid with a psychic link to a dinosaur. I've no idea what to do with that one.
Later on they get a Skrull kid, who becomes the shining alien's boyfriend, then her girlfriend after she explains that she's gay and what that is. That will be Beast Boy, a.k.a. Beast Girl. I don't think he can do that, but their mashup can, ok?
I know the gangster's kid eventually betrays the Runaways, and Terra betrays the Titans. I think probably him so he can become Red X. Or nobody betrays anyone, maybe. They also get more people but I haven't read that far. Moving on.
Saturn Girl is the host of the Phoenix Force, but only in the present. When she goes back to her time it just hangs around, waiting for her to come back. In the future it's not been seen for centuries, she hasn't been able to find out what happened.
Booster Gold is a low-ranking TVA worker. We only ever meet him during his breaks or days off.
Darkseid is the creator and leader of the Yellow Lantern Corps. The central power battery resides in Apokolips, and tints the flames yellow.
And that's it. Anyone have any ideas, please let me know. That goes double for me, me!
