god I watched some of the DLV videos yesterday because I was like “idk given Mae’s timeline that art would probably happen around Warmind or so” and then the Nokris fight and Xol’s “drown in the Deep” fucking tore me limb from limb

I mean one of the behind the scenes/not explicitly said pieces of that art is that the head wound is from a serious blow to the head that dents her helmet to the point that she has to remove it. so a hive knight cleaver. the helmet was aging, she’d been meaning to replace it but has been too distracted lately. lesson learned. then a massive gash in her side from an acolyte shredder shot that she couldn’t avoid. the slashes on her cheek and arm from thrall claws that tear through everything in their path. comms are out for the mission so she can’t call for help. she should have brought Mihri with her but it’s too late for that now

it’s not even a difficult fight by most standards, she’s been in worse ones. but she’s angry and distracted and sick with grief and desperately trying to adjust her fighting style to cope with the fact that she’s alone and doesn’t have someone else there to help her anymore
