Ugh, rewatching the untamed is so frustrating. Wei wuxian is the only one out here actually living up to the standards the sects preach about, while the sects themselves hurt innocent people, ignore innocent people being hurt, and then have the audacity to call wei wuxian a villain for doing something about it. The hypocrisy is really infuriating! Even the people in the sects who are considered genuinely kind or good turn away because its too much trouble to even fact check. Im mad!

Worse, they didn’t have to fact check. In the novel, the Jin sect was not wholly responsible for prosecuting/guarding the imprisoned Wens, and it is impossible that the sects colluded during the novel Burial Mounds siege without noticing whom they were killing. This piece of meta explains how unlikely it is that Wei Wuxian and the Wens ended up dead solely because the Jin lied to everyone else.

Nie Mingjue knew that the Wens WWX saved had no blood on their hands and held them responsible for the war because they didn't revolt against Wen Ruohan. The fact that they were non-combatants from a distant, powerless branch of the family did not matter to him.

Similarly, Jiang Cheng visited the Burial Mounds and knew there was a child living there; he also knew (or could make a very educated guess) that Wei Wuxian had not cursed Jin Zixun, and that Jin Zixuan's death could only have been a consequence of Wei Wuxian being ambushed. He attended the conference at the Nightless City anyway and later led the siege in Yiling: there is no indication that he tried to plead for the lives of A-Yuan and the other innocent Wens. Nor is it likely that he remembered A-Yuan and tried to look for him after the siege; Lan Wangji was informed after it was over and still managed to get to A-Yuan first, despite how badly he was wounded.

Lan Xichen is less culpable for the Wens’ fate, but not blameless. He did try to speak up for Wen Qing and Wen Ning and received no support;  because at the time, Jiang Cheng did not make it clear that he owed his life to the Wen siblings. He did attend the conference at Nightless City, but it’s unlikely that he was at the siege of the Burial Mounds because he was presumably caring for Lan Wangji at the time: we know Lan Qiren was the one who led the Lans to Yiling. Lan Wangji almost certainly informed him that the Wens were innocent, but the Lan sect still went to Yiling with Lan Xichen’s permission. They definitely weren’t there to kill WWX and spare everyone else.

Furthermore, Lan Xichen is aware of some of JGY’s crimes before he becomes a suspect in NMJ’s murder (in CQL and MDZS). He must know that Jin Guangyao “tore down the sect” Jin Rusong’s supposed killer came from;  he tells JGY that he “believed he had his reasons” for various crimes. At minimum, the crimes LXC mentions here include a sect being exterminated; and he still excused Jin Guangyao, though he must have known that the entire sect could not have been responsible for JRS’s death.*

Even in CQL/the Untamed, the Wens could never have been executed without the cultivation world knowing that the Jins were killing civilians: the entire jianghu was gathered in Lanling for Jin Ling’s full-month/hundred day celebration, and the Wens (iirc) walked up to Koi Tower before being hanged. If anyone of importance aside from Lan Wangji objected, those executions would not have taken place.

*Note: this sect was not the Tingshan He sect. He Su and his clan (including children under ten) were imprisoned and murdered because they were inconveniencing Jin Guangshan; they are the clan framed for killing Rusong in TMAAF, but not in canon. Depending the Jianghu’s reaction to the clan’s disappearance, Jin Guangyao may have taken responsibility for the deaths and convinced anyone who asked that he was justified. LXC might have known that they died by JGY’s order, but the reader can’t be sure either way.

Hi! What do you think of Linebeck’s manga counterpart compared to his game counterpart? Is it about the same or do you feel different about them? Any sort of thoughts opinions and interpretations about his manga and or game counterparts?

I had to dig up and reread my Phantom Hourglass manga for this since I haven’t actually read it in a while, which I guess already reveals some of my opinions about it.

Off the bat, I feel differently about manga Linebeck than game Linebeck; I like the game’s version of him better, and I’ll go ahead and say that it’s probably because the manga cut out pretty much over half of the game’s plot, which severely limits a lot of stuff in the manga, as well as trashing the majority of Linebeck’s original arc and therefore making his manga arc feel very abrupt to me.

So, in terms of how the manga version feels in comparison to the game version… overall a bit lackluster compared to the game? Mainly due to the fact that half of the plot was cut, so you lose the letter, the slower changes seen through dialogue, as well as losing the two sea monster battles. The fact that the manga cuts from the ghost ship right into the Bellum fight is mainly what kills his arc a bit, since he more or less start and ends in the same places as the game’s versions, but in the manga you lose most of the build-up to that change. It also suggests the idea that he actually had less development than in the game, due to losing the letter bit and cutting out a lot of the time he had to change in the game. You lose some of the smaller details.

In general, I’m not a big fan of what the manga did with Phantom Hourglass’s overall plot, and this even extends to how they presented the final boss, too, even though a lot of people like this interpretation. I do like this play on the final boss, but it feels like it just… lost what extra impact it could have had due to the plot getting shuffled around. Placing the bellumbeck fight before the fight against just Bellum just feels… wrong. In the game, the bellumbeck fight being the last thing gives it more impact and leaves Linebeck’s possible fate a bit murkier (if you don’t know what happens, of course), and I actually dislike how this shuffling of events erases a) the ghost ship battle and b) Linebeck using the phantom sword to protect link. Obviously, these have their manga parallels (Linebeck helping fight Bellum in the end; his waking up during the bellumbeck battle and that ensuing bit), but I feel like the game’s version of events do more to support his development and make it feel more meaningful.

So, my general feeling about manga Linebeck compared to game Linebeck is essentially that the manga version kinda got shafted by the story cuts and shuffling of events.

Aside from problems caused by the pacing of the manga (this thing is at breakneck speed it’s been a while since I read it and man that’s fast pacing), in terms of his actual characterization, he’s also a bit different from the game. A lot of his traits are exaggerated throughout, which has its ups and downs.

I’m just going to go through the negatives before going through what I like; I’m not really a fan of how… over-the-top and cartoonish he comes off at times. Even in the game he doesn’t really come off like that, and with some of the turns the manga takes, it makes it a little harder to pinpoint exactly what his deal is. He’s definitely treated as a joke for a majority of the manga, and he generally comes of as incompetent at points, too. It’s a little harder to track his character development since, due to story cuts and pacing, it comes about faster and with little visible warning. Overall, he’s a bit shallower in the manga, though mostly due to axing the part of the story where the majority of his character development happens.

I don’t hate this characterization, though. There are a few small details- usually things either unique to the manga or other things not really even touched in fan media- that I really like. Number one on that list is the visual detail of him sticking out his bottom lip at lot. It’s so fucking good and fits him perfectly it’s so childish and I could absolutely see him doing that within the context of the game’s plot.

I also love how awful he is in the manga. I love it when he’s genuinely terrible and morally dubious. There isn’t much of a ‘oh he’s actually good at heart’ thing going on until later and it’s great. I personally love characterizations of Linebeck where he’s genuinely kind of awful on purpose. He borders on antagonistic a few times and it’s great.

In terms of deeper interpretations… I’m not at invested in the manga, so there isn’t much, so I’ll compare notes with my game interpretation. Linebeck in the manga doesn’t give me the same general vibes as Linebeck in the game; he seems more comfortable talking to people, less affected by Ciela (less negatively affected, that is; meaning that in the manga she actually helps him towards his development, while in the game she seems to make it a bit harder for him), and there’s less evidence of autistic traits or stuff like that. I’m pretty sure that plenty of people have psychologically picked apart manga Linebeck, so I’m not really going to touch on that beyond he’s definitely got some issues, though different issues than his game counterpart, in my eyes.

So that new Levi card, woah boy(positive). I get how setting is slightly dubious but unfortunately my brain stopped at the ‘childish jealousy’ part and yeah childish was the perfect word he actually is throwing a bratty tantrum about MC talking about their time with Minhyeok WHILE THEY'RE NOT EVEN NEXT TO HIM. Levi, babey, you're not beating the Tsundere allegations.

Also the part about the sins was very interesting ‘cause it kinda puts in perspective why he feels like there's no King he's close to. Or at least that's my read on that part, all their sins have some positive parts while his is the only fully negative one so of course he couldn't feel close to them. (Personally I do think that part is his viewpoint on their sins and it would be interesting to see the other Kings’ too, Satan in particular since I feel like his sin and depressive mood swings do go hand in hand)

Now for the read more aka wiiiild speculations because he didn't come home in the reduced ten pull aka see you in 3 months bae when I have 500 pulls and you still refuse to show up(looking at you bath Satan), fair bit of character analysis and slight canon divergence(???) plus personal MC involvement.

IT AIN'T MEANT FOR YOU HOMIE (it's meant for me first and then anyone else who wants to witness my 3am insanity)

Gonna start this off by saying that when they dropped the first teaser for the card my expectations for the story were jelly Levi wants to replace minhyeok and thus enters MC's memories except surprise surprise it was actually some corn set in a high school (don't pretend those aren't a thing, we're all adults here, and with MC’s track record in that game it would not be surprising) in part because the story had to get spicy at some point.

Personal belief is that what we see in the prologue of Levi is the closest thing to a ‘normal’ him aka a version of him that got to experience a normal childhood and not have all the trauma of… ya know… HIS WHOLE PAST. The way he expected an attack when MC initially trips breaks me in a very particular way, he has never known peace, he expects everything to be some sort of attempt on his or his people’s life. The one time he wasn't as uptight ended up with him heavily injured (Bloodshed card).

There is also him ascertaining that they had different starting points. Now this could refer to a lot of things but to me one thing that does is put a definite line between them. To me it sounds like he's reasoning with himself that because of their very different lives they would be incompatible (combined with that thing about his sin being the only negative one it shows he always separates himself from people he would otherwise form bonds with)

Now he's still not nice, far from it, but he can be accommodating and look out for MC when he is not thinking 24/7 about possibly being attacked. Whether he reasons that it would endear himself more to them or out of pure instinct he looked out for MC, those were not Minhyeok’s actions he mimicked but his own.

So yeah, average Levi is horrendously bad at emotions and frankly probably the one who understands his own emotions towards a potential romantic partner(since tbh that is what MC is) the least. (This is a whole other can of brainworms about how aside from Solomon he probably has not been attached to anyone in that way until MC based on something he says in his H-Scene, but that can of worms shall be opened later) please get some therapists in Hell, clearly everyone would benefit from it.

There is also something impossibly endearing to me about seeing Levi in a high school setting even for a bit because that's not something he ever experienced and I wish his time exploring that part of MC and Minhyeok's past was a bit longer. I want to believe MC gets to ask him later in the story how he felt about it.

If you were only here for the character analysis then thanks for reading, have a lovely day/night/evening, we are going into wild speculation territory and some personal things regarding my MC Jin in that particular scenario.

tl;dr: After Jin's parents were killed she pretty much secluded herself in their home doing most of her studying through online courses and only showing up physically at school for a couple of days.

I choose to believe she was aware of stuff from the start but in that way you're aware you're in a dream while you sleep, she can tell things are a bit off but not fully what is wrong. She knows the person with her is not Minhyeok, she also knows who Leviathan is, but there's a certain disconnect when trying to piece it all together, but the further the dream goes the more she ‘realises’ and ‘awakens to the truth' if you will.

She cannot help but pity Levi’s situation even if she knows if she ever said that she'd probably get insta-hanged, so a part of her cannot help but wonder if he wanted to experience some normalcy for once. (She's not the brightest tool in the shed so the fact that he wants to replace Minhyeok would not pass by her singular braincell) (I love her I swear, being mean is my love language)

So I imagine after the whole dream thing is over and she next visits Hades she doesn't raise any questions about that event. She seems annoyingly unbothered and not curious at all. If anything this just makes Leviathan more angry because she can't be that unbothered after everything and pretend nothing happened, he should've been the only thing on her mind and yet she still sometimes mentions that detestable human. Oh how he should hang her for it. And then one day she has a conspicuously familiar candy in her mouth. “Was the experience at least a bit pleasant?” She's soft spoken anyway but she sounds almost apologetic. Why yes the experience was quite pleasant if Levi had to be honest but he'd never praise her openly… and then it hits him. She's not asking about that, she's asking about how he felt in a normal human high school.

When she gets no answer she stammers and starts speaking again, trying to fill the void. “I didn't exactly… go there often…” The pauses are plentiful and her shoulders droop almost in shame. “... so I imagine whatever you saw was rather lacklustre… aside from… my pathetic display-”

“It wasn't bad.”

A short sentence and it was enough to make the human girl perk up instantly. From anyone else that would be considered nigh an insult, but with Levi's temperament that was the highest praise she could hope for. By the time Jin was next to his desk after he'd beckoned her with a wave of his hand her visage had brightened significantly. ‘Stealing’ the lollipop from between her lips was ‘child’s play’ after that, the girl clearly took stunned to speak and becoming redder by the second.

“Yes, not bad at all.”

also i couldn’t stop thinking about your tangled au it’s so clever! it got me thinking of an au of your au (if that’s presumptuous or annoying feel free to ignore this ask lol). but it always bugged me slightly in the original tangled that rapunzel could remember stuff from when she was a baby bc babies can’t do that lol (obv she also has magic glowing hair so suspension of disbelief and all). but what if dick was actually older when slade (or court of owls tbh take your pick) kidnapped him? like he came under bruce’s care just like in canon after his parents died, and was around long enough to become brothers with jason, and tim had just been adopted when dick and bruce have a fight and dick storms off. not as bad as comics and bruce doesn’t kick him out bc he’s not an ass lol, but maybe dick wants to do more with his powers and bruce is overprotective, so dick storms out fully intending to come back, but slade has been watching him and takes this chance to kidnap him. and when bruce goes looking for him all he finds is a bloodstain and no dick.

and obviously dick is very keen on escaping the creepy dude who’s kidnapped him, but slade brings him to the basement of the tower and begins to torture/brainwash him sort of like the apprentice arc. and over time bc slade sucks and is good at the whole brainwashing thing, dick slowly looses his memories and eventually can’t remember a life outside of the tower at all. and he continues to grow up in the tower with slade as his “father” and he always has this sense that something isn’t quite right, but he can’t put his finger on it. like he has all these weird torture-like scars that he can’t remember getting, but slade tells him that it was from when he was young and before slade rescued him, and that’s why the world is so scary and dangerous and he has to stay in the tower where slade can protect him. and ofc he does bc slade loves him and wouldn’t lie to him right? and he doesn’t know why the name richard doesn’t fit him quite right, or why his heart races when slade appears unexpectedly (that’s how love works right?). but he stays in the tower like he’s supposed to until wally and roy show up.

and slowly after traveling with them he begins to get weird flashes of both painful and good memories, and strange sensations of deja vue. while meanwhile bruce is still all brooding and mourning bc it was his fight that led dick to run away. and added angst is that jason and tim actually remember and miss dick, even though tim had just started to get to know him. and damian is angsty bc he’s the only one never to have met dick (handwavy on the ages just like dc lol). meanwhile the kingdom still remembers and mourns the charismatic adorable prince that they lost.

and then when slade eventually catches up to and captures wally and roy, dick offers to give himself up and promises never to escape if slade spares them. and it’s extra sad bc he finally remembers what he’d be giving up. he remembers bruce and alfred and his brothers, and he remembers all the trauma slade put him through, and he’s willing to go through it all again to save wally and roy (bc is it really dick grayson if he isn’t super self sacrificing lol). and ofc it eventually ends happily and dick is delighted to go back to his family with his new friends and see his old brothers and meet his new brother all with a new haircut.

but yeah overall your au wormed its way into my brain and i couldn’t stop thinking about it lol, it’s so good!!!!

And OMG, this is amazing! Beautifully written, yes, absolutely love all the details, especially Slade's and Dick's relationship in all this. I've actually thought about him being taken later on so Tim and Jason would also remember Dick. But I think I started overthinking everything and made it way too complicated (I think I wrote about 20 pages of notes and stuff, I kinda got lost in them. I was/am pretty obsessed with this AU), so I just reeled back a bit and stayed close to the plot. It also simplifies things; I don’t have to rewrite the whole story, which, with my overthinking skills, would take forever. 💀

And that part with Slade making Dick forget who he was is great. I kept the whole AU pretty open with some stuff for imagination. My running idea at the moment is that he got sick when he was 8, so Bruce found the flower, and later Slade kidnapped him, making him forget everything and thinking Slade is his father.

But yeah, OMG, this is awesome. I totally love it. I tried to make it as detailed as possible story-wise, but at the same time, I really needed to limit myself to finish fast because I was scared I would lose interest or don’t have the patience haha But Now I’m kinda even more excited about how people will react to the next chapters. 👀

Depends. Are we talking reasonable or unreasonable date night ideas? Because I feel like they’re both romantics at heart, but Sahed would have great ideas that were very spontaneous and not thought out at all (these might go swimmingly or flop tbh), and then he would have ‘great’ ideas, and they just…well, Julia will never be bored with him, I’ll just say that. Julia, on the other hand, she would put full care and effort into planning something, and it would go smoothly. Either way, those two have fun and complement each other well.

Who’s better at carnival games?

Oh, Julia. Girl has freakishly good aim, we’ve seen what she can do with knives. In a sneakier sort of way (okay, stealing), Sahed. I feel like he could make a great thief if he set his mind to it.

Who drags the other(s) onto a rollercoaster?

Sahed. Definitely. Without doubt.

Who does the most chores?

Toss-up. I hc that both do chores about equally. The big difference is, Julia just isn’t all that messy to begin with. Sahed…he gets messy. Quickly. But he’s not a complete animal, he will clean up after himself.

Who gets drunk the quickest?

I feel they’re both lightweights tbh. Sahed just doesn’t strike me as a drinker, anyway, and I just feel it in my heart that he can’t hold his booze well when he does partake. But Julia probably; I doubt she’s so much as sniffed a drink her whole life before the circus. She doesn’t know her limits.

Who watches the most reality tv?

Julia. She could watch it all day long. Sahed is probably the type that has the tv on all day, but he’s mindlessly hearing it while doing other shit.

Who insists their way is better even though it’s objectively the worst way?

Ooh, they’re both ridiculous. Okay, so probably Sahed. Because we historically, canonically have him thinking he has great ideas, and they’re…just not. But the guy is charismatic, charming, and hot as hell, so he cons people into getting into stupid plans with him. Julia isn’t any of those things other than being just as cute and pretty as can be, but Jesus, she’s stubborn, and she’ll argue and yell and holler about it forever.

Initially? Julia. She’s never done it before, and things perceived as risky scare her. But after her first flight? She’s fine. Loves the view. Sahed, meanwhile, hates turbulence. He’s already uncomfortable on a plane, as he can’t stretch out his legs and he’s all cramped up, and turbulence makes it worse. He gets cranky and grips the armrests with every bit of turbulence. Julia just pats his hand, gives him a Benadryl, and tells him it’s nap time.

Oh, they're cute/funny/flirty, definitely.

Oof. They’re both good at it. Difference is, Sahed most of the time doesn’t give a fuck, and won’t bother with emails. Julia will take her time and carefully proof her email before hitting send to ensure that it conveys the right tone, verbiage, and succinctness.

Sahed, because he’s an ass. To be fair, he does offer his food to Julia, and wouldn’t be irritated if she sampled off his plate, but she never does. She ordered what she ordered, and that’s what she wanted, so leave her plate alone!

Oh, I think they’re equal there. I mean, Julia tried to kill Tonny out of necessity for her own life as well as Kamille’s. I’m not convinced she didn’t have Sahed in mind too when she did it. And we already know through implied admission that Sahed has killed someone before, and he’d literally offered to kill Tonny for her so that she wouldn’t have to. So…yeah. Equal.

Sahed says they have food at home. Julia joins the chant—she wasn’t allowed to eat out ever in Kalgratt. Sahed would buy the coffee and leave just to be a butthole, but I feel like he wouldn’t do that unless it was a tease, and he was going to let the wife and kid ‘talk him into going back’ or whatever.

In other news- because tbh this other au holds more meaning in my heart (just cuz of how I relate to Donnie the most out of all of the aus), I genuinely am craving for angst with hurt/comfort for Leo Jr au.

sooo time for THOUGHTS I really am longing for moments with Leo Jr and Donnie, because...hnk- Donnie actually receiving comfort, care, patient understanding and acceptance instead of being told to suck it up or being ridiculed/treated like a ticking time bomb???? Means the world to me????? Idk- I guess my soul just aches for this version of Donnie who didn't get that safe space Leonardo's Donnie did. (i get the au is mainly Leo-centric, but for some reason this version of Don-tron ya created has somehow wormed his way into my heart and he is truly my favorite iteration in terms of aus???)

When I tell you that I felt my heart break over the silly comic where Leonardo says that Leo Jr and Casey Jr are twins, solely due to what that implies to the overall story. In a sense, Leo Jr gets to have variations of the life he would have if he hadn't been kidnapped (by all technicalities Leo Jr IS a victim of kidnapping no matter how wholesome it turned out to be). He gets to know the joys of having a twin, of being able to goof around and laugh, being understood/accepted, being able to make friends and be a kid! Meanwhile...Donnie (the one who was MEANT to have Leo as his twin) didn't get any of that. It hit hard that, even if it wasn't intentional by any means, Don was "easily replaced." (which idk if it's intentional or not, but that seems to be a reoccurring theme for the spiny softshell in this au). He'll never really have that close knit bond, not know what it's like, even if Leo Jr and him do grow close during their teenage years. Because in this reality, the "Disaster Twins" exist, Donnie's just not apart of it. Which is just another way that shows how much of a stranger the kid is to everyone who is supposed to be his family; his father, two brothers, and even the one who was at one point meant to be his twin.

That thought is sorta what led me down the rabbit hole of Leo Jr AU! Don brainrot. The kid's reality is one of neglect, extreme isolation, fear and...probably a deep well of self-hatred, loneliness, non existent self-worth, etc. (we saw how he struggled with in Rise Canon, so i can only imagine it is so much worse in this au). I can only imagine that this also impacts his ninpo and mystics later on, which probably is going to make his self-esteem take a nosedive.

Ngl if Leonardo's twin (who I'm gonna call Tello) is actually watching over his past self, it makes me wonder what he's thinking. His pov would be intriguing consider he'd be witnessing how much pain his twin's actions caused. Idk- I just- when I look at everything from this particular au, it makes me hope that Donnie is allowed to feel his big feelings without people trying to rush him. He should be allowed to be terrified, hurt, angry, etc towards Splinter and Leonardo. Neither of them deserve his forgiveness, because shit- both of them fucked up big time. They both caused complex trauma...and like- really need to face consequences. (apart of me sorta hopes Donnie DOESN'T forgive them) dakjsfsadfas sorry for rambling, not sure if any of that made sense, but I just- I have so many feelings about Donnie in the Leo Jr au, and really want to see more of him!

The sewers were a gross place to live if you asked Junior but Splinter refused to move to the hidden city. Luckily he had his portals meaning he could step into the already cleaned portion they called a home.

“Leo!” Mikey was the first to notice him. Dropping the plates on the table he was setting them vaulting over it, “You came!”

“It’s still Junior,” He reminded for the umpteenth time, “And yeah I said I would,”

Mikey collided into him for a hug. Junior gave a small wave to Raph- or Red, probably Red as the snapper wasn’t meeting his eyes while trying to hide his scowl. Splinter was setting the table in Mikeys stead, making wayyy too much eye contact as he kept staring at Junior. He was placing the plates down carelessly. The one in front of Donnie was placed down with a crack, only Junior caught his flinch.

“Great, he’s here, I saw him,” Donnie pushed away from the table in a frenzied movement, “Can I please leave now,”

“Purple your brother is here, that is more important than some computer,” Splinter snapped. No one took note of the way both Donnie and Junior cringed. 

“Nah he’s just tryna get out of showing me his lab since he promised last time,” Junior stepped forward and away from Mikey.

“I did no such thing,” Donnie scowled at him as Junior came around to his side,

“No use backing out now Dee,” Junior grinned, shuffling towards Donnie so the softshell backed away. Kind of like herding a very liable to bite sheep, “I’m expecting the grand tour, don't wait up everyone! “

But dinner…” Junior pretended he didn’t hear Mikey as he walked Donnie towards his room office lab space.

It was empty, with sections obviously organized out to put things there but with not enough actual stuff to do it. Donnie held himself like a tightly drawn string as they walked in. Not looking at Junior as the red slider circled around to the other's bed.

“What did you want to see?” Donnie asked tiredly as Junior came up behind him, “Most of my stuff is at the old place, or the other old place, or-”

Donnie was cut off by the blanket being draped over his head like a tablecloth.

“Nothing much,” Junior shrugged stepping away as Donnie went very still under the blanket, “Just had to get out of there, think I might sit quietly against a wall for the next half hour, not say anything, not do anything, you know how it is,”

Junior slid down the wall. He would have to go back eventually, or the others would break down the door and pull them both back to dinner. He estimated he had about thirty six minutes before that happened and that he could convince them to leave Donnie be. He’d say he asked if the softshell could make something for him. Something big so Donnie would have an excuse to disappear for the next week or so. They tended not to bother the other turtle as much if they thought he was doing stuff for the yokai.

The blanket shuffled, bunching up on the ground as Donnie sat near him. Only just within arms reach. He was covered head to toe, curled up and completely silent. Junior occupied himself trying to come up with a believable project. Maybe a new mask? That way he could wear his old one and the others would never know, it’s not like Splinter ever let them follow Junior to the battle nexus.

The blanket shifted but Donnie didn’t emerge. A hand poked out the bottom, listing up the cloth and bunching it up while still keeping the soft shell hidden. Junior reached his hand out halfway. Donnie couldn't see it but paused when his searching hand brushed up against it. Junior kept still, waiting, not minding one way or the other.

Donnie held his fingers, squeezing lightly. Junior squeezed back, not taking Donnie’s whole hand but meeting him where he was. It was pleasant, it was quiet. The noise from the others blocked off. A little bubble away from everything where they could just be. 

Junior thought growing up in the sewers may have not been all bad… if he got to do it with Donnie.

this file is my workshop for everything relating to the transbians modern au i think ive mentioned once before on here. it’s a very long way from being written, if it ever does get written

in a lot of ways it’s a garden variety fluff piece with coffeeshop au sensibilities—everybody’s friends, interpersonal conflicts are trivial, one of the most important functions of this setting to me is creating a safe environment for ed to tumble into and gently get her egg cracked

not that it’s as simple for her as meeting a trans woman her age and going “oh why didn’t i think of that!” there’s a bit of push-and-pull she has to muddle through in terms of—actually let me just copy paste some of my thoughts on where her head is at before she comes out to herself:

With the culture Ed’s been surrounded by up until now, it’s been an easy assumption to make that Being A Man was another one of those things like swallowing live worms or playing bloody knuckles: getting yourself loaded up with as much acute misery as you can take and then parading it around like a trophy. “Look how much this pain doesn’t even bother me.”

The question, “But would you like to be seen as a woman?” draws out some tears because her approach to the image she projects has always always always been about its utility. Simply expressing herself without curating an image built around that utility is such an unfamiliar and bittersweet experience, and there’s a reason she’s spent most of her life not considering it a serious option.

she starts out with a bit of a blind spot about stede’s insecurities the same way her canon counterpart does, so there’s a period where she uses the way stede is So Obviously A Woman to her in order to kind of.. illustrate to herself why she So Obviously Isn’t, no matter how much she would like to be. and it’s not until stede Gets A Sense About Ed and starts gently sharing some of her earlier gender experiences For No Particular Reason that ed starts feeling more able to draw those connections to herself

i realize im making it sound like a really rough time but tbh it’s mostly abt watching star trek in your underpants and having tender lesbian sex. stede gets ed brainstorming potential name changes with her while she tries on flowery hats and ed is like “tbh i think the name bonnie really suits you but i can’t figure out why” and stede turns to ed and goes 😐 Bonnie Bonnet? and ed is like ohhh yeah thats why

(stede vacillates between a whole bunch of Traditionally Female names bc she feels like she Ought To Have One Of Those but her heart isnt really in it)

I mean, he's tasted it. No doubt. When you have such a gory hobby and your gloves somehow always have fresh blood on them, you're bound to get blood in your mouth at some point.

But to actually drink it has never been attempted.

It was by no means his favorite drink, nor was it something he drank frequently. But on occasion, he did. Mostly with you, but he'd find himself occasionally sipping on it while at work or home alone.

Like not strongly of it, for a human, it's noting more than a subtle after note but for a vampire such as yourself, senses heightened and all that, it's easier to recognize and find it quite enjoyable.

Just a collection of my thought process and ramblings about this collection of drawings to scratch the itch in my brain.

General ramblings:

This is not a fleshed out au. There isn't much of a storyline and I don't exactly know if I will ever make one.

The au doesn't follow the jjk canon apart from some general things like Toji leaving Megumi and Tsumiki etc.

The ‘story’ follows Naoya Zenin after an accident that should have killed him instead leaves him unscathed. That is, until he wakes up the next day with a girl's body, a kogane companion, and the ability to see strange creatures (cursed spirits) and people who should have been long dead.

Bro is basically now part of a culling game-esque event involving people who were saved from death like him, those who died long ago and were resurrected, and creatures that should have never entered the living realm. Some people such as him with bad karma for their actions, are given certain handicaps and/or punishments when they're brought back from death. Hence girl-Naoya.

But, by destroying the souls of beings with even more bad karma than you, you can gain points that will give you access to abilities (cursed techniques) or lessen your own punishment or handicap.

The Kogane function the same here as they do in canon.

Basically, this is me drawing fem Naoya with a bunch of extra steps 💀

Drawing one:

A lot of the ‘story’ of this au just happened randomly as I was doodling, Kenjaku and Takaba running Naoya over being part of that.

I wanted to draw Naoya reacting to him becoming a girl for the shits and giggle, yk, the sillies

And before I knew it I had Naoya getting run over by a truck 💀

The reason Takaba is the driver is because of that one scene in Kenjaku vs Takaba, Kenjaku is in the passenger's seat just because.

There is no reason as to what they're singing besides me wanting them to have been distracted by something goofy 

You might have noticed Naoya is holding something. Idk what it is though 

Its like….a wand…a club…? It's based off his first form as a cursed spirit, the one where he looks like a worm

Yes, his shirt does indeed say “why women deserve less”. It's based on that one fanart of him reading a book with the same title. 

Drawing two:

The first thing I thought of when I imagined Naoya going on a ‘quest’ to become a man again was that ant carrying a bindle.

(It gives pathetic energy, which i enjoy giving my Naoya drawings)

This is actually my first time drawing Hana, I actually like drawing her

I'm so sorry to people who like Nobara and Maki, I can't draw them that well 😭😭😭

I'm thinking Hana/Angel are trying to fix whatever is going on with the souls of the deceased/players, and are thus gathering allies (though they also want to defeat a certain king of curses even in this au as well 👀)

Naoya ends up joining her, Maki, and Nobara as allies (no one is happy about this)

They will put him in his place, especially Maki.

(I wonder what would happen if he met Yuki…)

Naoya and Hana is a combination I didn't think I'd ever draw interacting tbh 💀

But for some reason that's what ended up happening

Other thoughts:

It's so cute how the kogane have different designs sometimes based on who they belong to. It reminds me of the crows in kny.

I wonder if they're meant to represent something about each player???

For example, the one we see with Naoya when we're first introduced to his curse form has a skull like face, which we later see on Naoya's second curse form.

His looks so crusty and I love it

I rlly wanted it to be his companion in this au

Honestly, I was thinking Naoya upon turning into a girl would try everything he could to make himself look more traditionally masculine

But I still wanted to draw him in a skirt, you know, because

His ass doesn't even want to be a woman, but let's be fr, he be styling his hair in the mirror or some shit thinking things like ‘if only every woman paid half as much attention to how she holds herself as me!’ Thinking he's giving everyone a good example or something 💀

Hi, I wanted to ask you if it's been discussed before about the landing during the fall in episode 5. I was watching it (definitely not for the 30th time 🙄) and I was thinking about how lestat flies up with louis really pretty high and when he's dropped despite being up that high and wind or anything else, louis lands pretty much where he was lifted from. Do you think that this is something to do with things not quite being as they seem in that scene or do you think I'm reading into it too much and it's just because it's a tv show and having him land further away wouldn't work for the logistics of the show? Sorry if this has already been discussed loads!

In other posts as part of the meta / analysis there, yeah, sometimes.

Which isn't to say that it's not worth discussing again^^. (This isn't an extensive meta on the "content" of episode 5, that has happened, at length, and isn't discussed here.)

I think there are actually quite a few... "weird" things about the fight, and the flight up is definitely one of them. That is not to say, and it bears repeating, that I doubt the whole thing, or think it didn't happen. There are simply too many facts aligning after that for it not to have happened at all. And I do not think they'll actually backtrack from what we've seen...

But.

The flight shown here is a kind of perversion of the one at the end of QotD. Someone with the knowledge of it could have used it to plant false memories. Someone who might have had a similar discussion with Lestat (just reversed), and then threw Lestat of a tower... it is important imho to remember that Armand and Lestat both experienced a fall like that in the books, but not Louis.

This obviously depends on where we are in modern Dubai timeline and what exactly that little game Armand and Louis are playing there ... is. (That's another aspect of it all - Armand and Louis are playing a game with Daniel, with each other, and I think, separately, too.)

The "world" logistics, aka the falling precisely to that place in the courtyard did feel off to me, too. Combined with the doubt of before, it does seem to me like Louis might never have left the courtyard after the "fight" tbh. There's a few storytelling visual clues, too. Claudia is crying normal tears, not blood tears. The way Lestat seems off, talking about his "nature". Now, mind you, I do not think that Lestat doesn't have that in him, unfortunately. But he did seem off there.

For "show" logistics, it was a pretty genius move, imho. Louis is where he (in the books) later attempts to commit suicide (in the show that will in all likelihood be somewhere else. Still.). He is where their "family" started. And the aforementioned "perversion" of that flight from QotD did twist book readers guts. For the show, the courtyard makes a lot of sense. And... as stupid as it may sound - but they don't really have to bother with logic - it's memories anyways. It's a tale.

A play.

It is also worth mentioning, imho (and I haven't seen that discussed yet), that it is Armand who does state (in TVA) that there is "no such fun on Earth than raping of an equal". ("Nice to drink his blood, to take him against his will.") Now, to drink from others by force, that "rape of an equal"... Lestat later does that, too, to David, in Prince Lestat (and it is interesting, because the aforementioned quote is about David, too, and it makes you wonder if he may have read it and wondered about it, but that's a whole different can of worms), but here... that forced feeding on Louis while going up is something that seemed off to me, too. Because Armand does that to Lestat, in TVL.

So yeah, lots of things off about the "flight".

The sheer logistics off it, the implementation. The circumstance. The details.

And I do not think we'll get an answer for this! At most, I think we'll get confirmation as to how Armand has influenced Louis (and he has imho, I mean it is book canon, and we're talking ARMAND) - and if we're real lucky... we'll get an answer to the why.

But I do not think we'll get a definite answer to the "how much".

From a storytelling perspective that's pretty ingenious imho, despite being frustrating for us :)))

Damn, Star, are you sure you wanna open that can of worms? xD The short answer is YEAH, but the long one is...too long for me to write it out, so I'll stick to the fandoms my muses are from. Mind you, I'm absolutely down for trying any of these "NOTPs" RP-wise, I just wouldn't pick them as the ships I like when discussing potential ships based on canon / fanon only.

Rick & Morty with any of their canon love interests. It's probably done on purpose, because the whole series is focused on both of them never fitting in and constantly destroying the few good things in their lives, but...I never really saw the appeal n any of those ships. Some of them are kind popular, like Morty & Jessica / Planetina or Rick with Unity / Birdperson, but...yeah, I don't see it.

Félix and Kagami. It's canon and a lot of people love it, but...it makes very little sense to me. Sure, they connected because of shard trauma and life experiences, but ffs, they are both socially inept people who can hardly understand how friendship works. It makes no sense for them to start dating in a few weeks span of time. Plus, Kagami was not over her previous love interest like...three episodes before, so wtffff.

Not a NOTP, but I'm not really into the whole Alastor and Lucifer ship (which is a pretty big one in the HH fandom, from what I saw). I had a discussion with my best friend about this and, while I do see why people ships them, I just...I'm not sold at all. Maybe I'm biased because I have another main ship for Al, but I still can't get behind it.

Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

Saying that I liked it is way too much, but I used to be more open when it comes to self-inserts. I even used to have a couple of my own (but mind you, they were always and strictly background characters) when I was a teen.

Nowadays? I won't lie, they creep me out. I had some bad experiences in this sense, so maybe that's why I'm not comfortable with them, but...yeah. I don't write and, especially, I don't write with self-inserts. No exceptions.

If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

...I have so many possible replies for this, so I'm just gonna answer in general, without any particular reference to any specific show.

Stop making female characters nothing but 2D love interests.

Give other genders and sexualities space without making that the whole point of the character.

What are your thoughts on crack ships?

Crack ships are hilarious. I don't have many of those, but when I get invested in one, you can bet that I'm gonna love every minute of it xD Tbh, I had quite a few RP ships that started out as crack ships and I ended up loving them to bits. They are fun surprises and always very entertaining to write!

i think that Lucio and Shalem and Beelzebub and all of the primals are all trans because their concept of gender just isn't the same as mortals (also while i'm not huge on the "babygirl" thing because it just makes me slightly uncomfortable the way i've seen some people use it (especially because i'm transmasc myself) Belial is one of the few characters where it never feels weird to me seeing it for him, like yeah that's correct. i think he'd call himself that if he knew about it he says shit like "come to daddy" he just. says shit.)

i only think Lucilius is cis because i don't like him and i'm petty (and it's funny to me to joke that he's cis because he's an imperfect clone of Lucio who is trans)

Yeah actually, that's fair.

tbh when it comes to gender personally i'm kinda like... agender i think? Like in general i feel like gender is the most neutral thing in the world, and anything i can see being described as a gendered experience always puzzles me a little because i don't see it - but i figure it's the same way i feel about sexuality and romance to start with, as an AroAce. Just because i don't specifically understand how people see it doesn't mean it's not there, but i'm definitely not a pro to talk about it at all and generally it's why i just roll with whatever canon gives me unless there's strong possible themes i can get out of it.

With that in mind therefore i just don't really think too hard about it -- but when it comes especially to non-humans, unless they have big reasons to care about it, i wouldn't expect them to have strong reasons to uphold the gender binary.

For primals, since they are made by people with purpose, i feel like they're probably in situations where they're assigned clear gender at creation, generally on the binary, that therefore probably means they might approach it the way humans do. Astrals meanwhile should have the exact same reasoning as mortals in the gbf verse in term of how they feel about gender. Gender is mostly a social construct after all and Astral and Skydweller's societies are mostly based around our own customs, for better and for worse.

Some group, like the Fairies, have shown to exist outside of those social norm (with Morgan being canonically nonbinary) so it's its own thing as it is.

But then we look at the Creations Gods -- The Dragons who are all canonically nonbinary, exist because they're concept to start with, so they don't exactly have a binary gender to start with.

By our IRL definition they're trans because we live in a world that values binary (regardless of how true it is) where their identity doesn't fit the social norms we're used to. But in GBF, it's like..... They're born genderless. They are their assigned gender at birth. They just eventually have fun and present with their gender differently due to Skydwellers' customs.

Meanwhile we have Lucio textually saying that the Gender Binary is fake and that it's actually more natural to change genders anytime, and that dictomies are fake to start with. By all account that confirms that Lucio is, in essence, nonbinary -- even if he presents as a guy most of the time with he/him pronoms. And Shalem therefore is in the same bag. They're trans because Skydwellers society can't take this starting point into account as a proper starting point into a gender discovery because it doesn't fit the binary they are accustomed with. But ultimately more than being Trans it's really just that The Speakers exist outside of the Binary to start with-- which by our definition is trans, but i wonder how much it applies in universe yaknow?

And it's where Lucilius and Beelzebub's possible trans readings are, imo, their own can of worm, and i think it's kinda why i dance around the topic when it comes out because are we establishing them as trans by their lived experiences as Astrals, or in comparaison to their relationship to their nonbinary originals? Do we take Bubs' gender presentation being different from Shalem's to be literally "from someone presenting as a woman to someone presenting as a man", or do we take into account Shalem's nonbinarity, or even Beelzebub's as well? Many people will have different reading on that. Some people may even take offense with implying that Bubs has to be trans because of the way he is different from his nonbinary original.

And personally this is just why i'm a bit out of my depth when it comes to trans HCs, not specifically because i don't really see them, but mostly because like -- why stop there? Especially in relation to characters who are not humans to start with. The Trans reading can go further because the logic of Gender in Granblue isn't even the one of our general IRL society. And personally i like the Gender Logic of Granblue a lot more.

(and it's not to say that it means our IRL binary is a good logic, idk how to word it properly. RL's genders are infinite, there are countless of lived experiences that i could never properly imagine, that comes with the infinite nature of human life. It's just that when it comes to compare Fantasy logic, it will also live in with some of its own rules that can be incompatible with reality, while also accounting on how the fantasy might be limited by the limited view of the writers depending on how they feel about gender to start with; Though Granblue at least seems to be at least a bit above the curve when it comes to this type of reflexion.)

But mostly as someone who, like i said, don't like.... also don't have a passionate connection to the topic, i feel like i'm overstepping if i start to discuss what angles can be explored on that level. I feel like I have too many blindspot and i value much more what others people might connect with on that regard.

So i stick more to academic level of "here's thematically how it can work if you need a bone to chew".

Ultimately my own approach is that i don't want to shut down any possible Trans reading (so sorry if i'm going to shake my head in disapproval at the Lucilius dig in the ask), because everyone will have their own reason to resonate with a character and find a detail that i personally could overlook that would make them think "this is my experience with gender, with life, with my identity", and to me those are always more valuable than whatever i can start to talk about when i ramble.

But yeah ultimately the tldr is basically i think all of the Creations Beings in Granblue are originally Nonbinary/Genderless/Agender of some type to start with, which alligns them with Trans readings in general to start with -- and then once we start to dig into Astrals, Skydwellers, Primals, there will be even more discussion about how this transness can translate on various levels.

i kinda ended up rambling, and ultimately the take away is don't take my own take on gender too seriously because i don't think i have the most interesting overview on all of this. But at least if people are going to come in my ask box to ask about it i hope i can throw some bones to chew on this topic!
