#you can't just act like having a job is the only way to contribute to society and then go 'but it's okay if you're disabled'

self-proclaimed radical leftists: in the communist utopia that exists only in my head, everyone will work, by which i mean a full-time job in the post-industrial revolution sense. this is because work is obviously the only way one can contribute to society, and everyone who doesn't work is a parasite that will be eradicated in my Communist Utopia™. i don't even care about the products or purpose of people's labour because, as everyone knows, employment equals morality and so having a job is inherently virtuous and not having a job makes you a lazy leech who doesn't deserve to live. trust me, this is a very communist idea. i'm practically an expert because i read 1.5 tweets about marx.
what? omg why are you making this about disability, i was obviously talking about normal people 🙄 if you're disabled, you have an excuse to be a useless waste of resources who can't contribute anything 😊 in my ✨ Communist Utopia ✨, you don't have to work if you're not able to. don't worry, we'll have rigorous and dehumanising tests to determine if you're disabled enough or if you're just a lazy faker! this process is infallible and has no drawbacks whatsoever for disabled people. have you considered that maybe you're the real ableist for criticising me? 🤔 anyway, have i mentioned how much i love employment and also the taste of boot leather

Hi! I wanted to say thanks for bringing Genshin Impact to my attention. I would see several posts from you on these characters, but outside of hearing a few mentions of it being a Gacha game, I didn't know much about it. Until a couple months ago when you provided all the interest I needed to check it out. I am not sure if it was the best or worst thing to come into my life right now with the hours invested in the thing lol Anyway, call me crazy, but I'm a sucker for Thoma recently. I love acts of service, and boy does this guy have it. Kind? Check. Observant? Check. Protective? Check. Laid-Back? Check. Hot Husband Material? Absolutely! His hangout quest where he basically says he lives to serve and is willing to try whatever I suggest to him got my head in the gutter somewhere. We know he's good at house service, but what else can he service? (I bet his oral skills are out of this world~~ ahem)
Happy I could get you to check out the game, also I am so sorry for it lmao. And yes Thoma is the whole package isn't he?
Pairing: Thoma x Fem!Reader
Tags: nsfw, smut, cunnilungus, tongue fucking, biting, licking, face riding, overstimulation, pussydrink!Thoma
A/N: I just did an Ayato smut blurb the other day and now it's Thoma's turn. they really do follow each other perfectly.
Tumblr media
Focused on giving you please 100% of the time
The term service top doesn't fit him because he doesn't have to be on top or the one in control to have a good time with you
Perfectly content with you riding his face all night while you pull on his hair and are barely able to keep eye contact because his mouth is on your clit half the time
When he's eating you out he wants you to be able to buck your hips so you're never fully pinned down by him, only when he deems it necessary
Such a time could be when he's trying to get his tongue as deep into your wet pussyhole as possible but you keep squirming and thrusting upwards
He can't work like that, so he has to put his hands on your hips and keep you a bit more still
Another way he loves letting you know to hold still is by biting your thighs, he does this really hard actually, hard enough for a bite mark to be there even the next day
Overstimulation happens often because Thoma has little self control when you keep begging him to eat you out
The man gets pussydrunk way too easily, offering you his mouth and his face and to suck your fingers after watching you finger yourself
Bold in the way he spells his name on your clit every time you come on his face, he wants to make sure your pussy knows who made it squirt
If prompted to he can eat you out while he's supposed to be working
Much more rare because takes his job very seriously but as your boyfriend he can't ignore your lustful and needy looks
He'll make you happy, just let him get down on his knees and put your legs up on his shoulders, let him taste you, have his fill of you, bite your fist if you need to keep your voice down, Thoma doesn't care, he only wants to know he's making you feel good
Cleaning up is always part of the process although you contribute that to him wanting to keep things going a bit longer rather then winding things down
Especially when it always involves kissing and sucking on your clit
You have to push him away when it all becomes a little too much for your pussy, literal hours of his mouth on you
Seems like the two of you need to work on your stamina a little because he can still keep going
Maybe it would be different if he was on the receiving end

post-outbreak!Joel settled in Jackson with reader and Ellie and finally having time to workout his feelings for reader but still he has difficulty saying “I love you” even though he does and reader also knows he does so she doesn’t force him?👀
Post-outbreak!Joel Miller x f!reader
A/N: I'm not into post outbreak Joel very much but I loved this baby ❤️
Tumblr media
Ways Joel says 'I love you' instead of using words:
• that old broken heart of his has faced so much pain he would rather rip it off and pretend he has never cared about anyone or anything in his life
• it worked well for quite a while, but not when he found himself a family in your and Ellie, when he realized he was back into his brother's life and able to lead a seemingly normal life in the middle of the apocalypse
• so he does what he thinks he's best at: he keeps the people he cares about safe
• that means Ellie, Tommy and above all, you
• he's terrified of failing you at that, he knows he would never be able to go through that pain once more; so he makes sure you are always safe no matter where, no matter what
• sometimes it could be a little annoying to be honest; you didn't want to seem ungrateful or anything, that man acted like a guard dog, which was so comforting and reassuring when you were out in the world, but safely tucked in Jackson? Maybe, and just maybe, horses weren't as bad as Joel made them seem to be and you could easily handle them without him having to be with you
• but you appreciated his company nonetheless; you knew it was one way he found to show his feelings
• Joel was an act of service man, which means he would do anything for you, he just takes his old contractor skills and use them in order to help you with improvements around the house, fixing anything you may need or doing it around the neighborhood in exchange for something else he could gift you later
• that man can't cook, but he does make a mean sandwich and he always makes sure to prepare one for you, because he knows you're always hungry after work
• despite being so... Well... Joel, he tries his best to let you in; he actually talks to you, he just doesn't grunt or mumble yes or no like when he's around anyone else and that already says a lot about how he feels
• but what I mean is that, he lets you in as best as he can. Is he an open book? Definitely not and you already know there are things about him you'll never find out and that's alright, you don't pry into it and he appreciates it. But there are parts of his life he likes to talk about, no matter if he shares a memory of his daughter's first birthday party with you, or he just tells you which were his favorite places to eat at the mall before the outbreak
• he expresses his feelings towards you in physical ways too: no matter if a part of him still has a fight or flight response to physical touch and he still gets tense when you place your hand on him unannounced only to remind himself that you are just showing your love through that touch
• there's the sex in which he not only takes his pleasure but he also pleasures you; it doesn't matter if he is being soft or rough, if it's playful or urgent, if it's a full session or a quickie in the stables, he loves to make you cum. His tongue, his fingers, his cock, his thighs, anything that does the job he is glad as long as you are enjoying as well
• he isn't a cuddling type of man; first the heartbreak with Sarah's mom and then the whole outbreak and what mankind became contributed to that; Joel simply isolated himself from human touch, telling himself he didn't care about it and it wasn't necessary
• but he only realized how much he'd really missed it when you offered it to him; and he tried fighting it off, thinking of it as weakness, but he had a low resistance to your touch, that was for sure
• hugging, holding, stroking, massaging, kissing, rubbing, snuggling were things Joel only tried with you, after being sure he would spend the rest of his days in complete loneliness
• and you never made of fun him or pointed out the fact that he once avoided it all that and now he craved it, he loved it and he initiated it too because it showed how much he needed you as well
• so he still had a problem saying all those three words, but he could only sleep if he had you all over him
• he just loved rubbing your back up and down, feeling the softness of your skin under his rough, calloused and bruised hands
• and he isn't afraid of placing your hand on his head, showing he would like some hair playing just like a puppy would ask for pets and you just melt at how relaxed he gets when you run your fingers through his hair
• it's just Joel letting his guard down around you
• he isn't great at PDA, but he will hold hands with you, or he will have his arm wrapped around your waist and he will pull you to dance with him at a party, he prefers dancing with you to some old record in his living room, but he isn't missing the opportunity of showing everyone else how much he loves you, even if he doesn't say it
• he plays you love songs in his guitar, singing along with the lyrics even if it makes him a little shy, but he does it because it makes your eyes light up and your cheeks turn pink
• he still has a hard time saying those words, he knows he needs to improve that, but at the same time, he knows that you know and while you aren't afraid to voice how much you love him, he isn't afraid of showing it

Hello! I'm skip and today I wanted to analyse blingus actions on the latest chapter of the event story since I've seen quite a big amount of people not understanding exactly why they acted that way and mischaracterizing them as this extremely evil and bad character! Love Confessions in the Baxter DLC
The sequel! Monochrome obsession continues. Part 2/3
Part 1 "The Wedding Confession"
Welcome, or hello again! I played the Baxter DLC a couple of times and I like it a lot, so I wanted to ramble about some of my favourite parts. Specifically about love confessions in Baxter’s version of Step 4, because they are all very well written and make me feel good :3
Reading the first part of this "series" isn't necessary, the introduction is just a bit more thorough in the first post. Furthermore if you've read the first part it might seem like i'm repeating myself with certain points, since those moments share some similarities and i like to be meticulous.
It is time for the second confession and the last one that can be initiated by the player. If you don’t confess here and pick an option in which MC expresses hope of Baxter returning their feelings, you will later reach the moment where Baxter asks MC out himself. This confession is my personal favourite, so prepare for me losing my mind over every single detail.
Spoilers for Baxter DLC!
The confessions all happen after the wedding ceremony, so if you hadn't played to this point yet, i recommend skipping this post (and maybe coming back later, if you wanna chat about them with me)! I may not bring up every single line, but i think this post still covers a good part of what happens.
I call this confession, The Morning Confession, because it takes place on the morning after the wedding! Simple name but it does the job.
There is also another reason for this name, but i'll get to it later.
The wedding is over and most stuff had been cleaned up. MC returns with Baxter to his apartment, after accepting his invitation to stay with him until they have to come back to their home. The two have finally reunited and they aren’t ready to part ways yet.
During that evening, MC and Baxter share a moment by the fireplace in the lobby of the building. I wanted to dedicate some time to this moment, because I think it’s a valuable context to the confession. And aside from providing insight into the mind of Baxter Ward, I love the way it’s written. So sue me, i wanna talk about it.
Despite the fact that they have reconciled, Baxter’s reasoning behind his actions still isn’t fully clear to MC. While being in the company of other people made the lingering unease between them bearable, it still remains. They can't act casually, as if nothing had happened, as if the years hadn’t been lost. So Baxter offers to clarify his point of view. “As sorry as I am, I don’t think I’ve been as open as I could have been” he says and well, that is the truth.
If the player chose to confess to Baxter before this conversation, this moment provides a deeper understanding of the character and explains his reluctance to accept the confession.
It is here by a fireplace – a fitting spot for another personal conversation, considering the duo's shared history – that Baxter reveals his innermost thoughts and fears. At his core, he believes he doesn’t contribute anything to any relationship, because he can't see his own value. And to him, if he doesn’t add anything, then he has no right to form and be in deep, mutually supportive relationships.
Baxter convinced himself that he doesn’t matter. That his only worth is in the entertainment he can provide or the help he can give. In his own words, he doesn’t know what it means to be significant to a person, just by being yourself. Which is why he doesn’t let people get close to him. He assumes that upon finding out that there is nothing more to him, they will leave. So it’s better to not let anybody get to know him, that way no one can be disappointed by his “true” self. He is unable to see that none of that is true because deep down, he thinks he is worthless as a person.
Those feelings about himself are something that have influenced Baxter’s decisions about relationships with other people, for example with Xavier. As the baker reveals later, they always felt that if Baxter had no reason to contact them again, he wouldn't. He kept himself away from others and believed that every connection he makes isn’t meant to last.
Still, Baxter wanted to create bonds with other people. And it terrified him.
He wanted to have that with MC, but he was too afraid to take that chance five years ago. It couldn't have worked out back then. Baxter had his assumptions about himself and others, and he held onto them strongly. It’s sad, but there was no way to make him change his ways back then. He was set on leaving no matter what would have happened.
This Baxter is different from the 19 year old who put his comfort above all else. During that conversation by the fireplace he is being vulnerable in ways he never allowed himself to be before. He tells MC that he missed them over those five years. That they made him feel wanted that summer, and as incredible as it felt, he couldn’t believe it would last. He makes it clear that it wasn’t any of MC’s actions that made him feel that way - he applied this mindset to every connection he made at that time.
It’s incredibly sad to witness his thoughts out in the open like that. I think Baxter’s struggles are something most of us can relate to in some way. Low self-esteem can make people withdraw from social situations and spiral into self-hatered. It’s terrible, to be so wrapped up in disliking yourself that you assume that nobody could ever like you. That you have no good qualities as a person, so you have to make up for them somehow. It can feel like it'll stay this way forever, and so there is no point in trying to connect with others.
However that is not true. In the end, Baxter came to understand this as well. He is worthy of love and friendship. He grew and learned from his past mistakes, and so can we.
He apologises to MC once again, and expresses deep regret over not staying in contact with them. And at last, MC can say that they actually know Baxter Alexander Ward.
I think this moment is really beautiful. It’s an apology without excuses, that provides an explanation. Baxter never had malicious intentions, but even so, his actions had hurt people who cared for him (and who he cared about), so he owns up to his mistakes and does his best to correct them.
Aside from being a really good moment of taking accountablity and being vulnerable with another person this conversation also sets the mood for the morning confession. The air is finally cleared. These two characters can finally show how much they value each other because there is mutual understanding and trust between them again. It will take some time to get to know each other after so long, but they are willing to try, and they know they can be honest.
After a day full of emotional revelations, Baxter and MC finally head to bed. Not only the characters, but the players can take a breath and prepare for what’s to come. And boy are we in for a treat.
The next day arrives and the players are given an option to sleep in as much as they want. What time MC wakes up will have an effect on dialogues and is one of the many examples of how the game lets us customize the protagonist however we want, even in the silliest ways. It is something i deeply appreciate about the Our Life series. The comfort level also changes the lines, for example MC's response to Baxter greeting them in the morning.
Eventually the sleeping beauty wakes up and the pair moves to the living room. Despite sleeping in for a while Baxter is still out of it and it’s so adorable (he's just like me fr).
Tumblr media
I think the tone set for the confession is lovely. The atmosphere in the morning is relaxing and light and to me it feels like this is exactly what those characters needed. A new day has arrived, not only literally but figuratively for their relationship. There is no negative tension in the air, just the feeling of peace. They are clearly enjoying each other's company and it's great to finally have that again.
This is only my opinion, but the way this moment feels is exactly why i like it more than the wedding confession. The previous confession is meant to feel rushed, high on emotions and full of determination to declare the feelings right away. MC feels like they have to be upfront about their feelings in that moment so they confess. I do enjoy this type of tension, but i simply prefer this kind of setting. As much as i love convincing Baxter to truly express his feelings by shooting down the reasons not to date him (it's so intense and dramatic! absolutely amazing) i find that i like this quiet admission of feelings more.
While it might not be that intense as the moment right after the wedding, there is still this nagging feeling that urges MC not to wait any longer. They love that they are included in this private corner of Baxter's life and they wish they could have been before. It's this feeling of not wanting to lose any more time, that makes them think about confessing then and there.
And so, the player is presented with a choice:
Tumblr media
It is time to confess! Hallelujah.
Just like in the wedding confession we can pick the way we want to confess - with words or with a gesture. If we pick the third option you lose the chance to confess yourself. Instead Baxter will do this when the time comes.
Upon choosing one of the ways to confess, MC has the same internal monologue they do in the wedding confession. I've already shared my thoughts about it in the previous post, but i'll just say here that it's a very nice scene. They reminisce about their relationship with Baxter as a whole, eventually coming to the conclusion, that they can hold on to him.
After the monologue ends, the player has a chance to reaffirm their decision, as they did in the previous confession.
Tumblr media
If you back out, MC thinks that they can be together just not in the way they'd want to. They are afraid of confessing, in case they ruin what they just got back and make Baxter run away.
But, if you reaffirm your decision, you get my personal favourite confession scene. Let's get right into it!
I mentioned in Part 1 that Baxter reacts to MC's silence, as they reminisce about their relationship. I find it a little funny when i imagine them just sitting in silence and staring intensely for a while. Kinda like when magical girls have their transformations and the bad guys don't do anything to interrupt them. MC monologuing definitely gives off the same energy. Writing inner monologues is tricky like that.
During the wedding confession Baxter is anxious and worried, waiting to receive MC's verdict. Do they welcome him back to their life? Or do they reject him (even though there is no such option in the game)?. It's stressful and the prolonged silence makes Baxter slowly come back to his usual behaviour to protect himself, in case his vulnerability was the wrong move.
This isn't the case here. His reaction is wildly different. There is no tension or stress, just curiosity and anticipation. Instead of being nervous he is very smug, clearly knowing or at least suspecting what MC is thinking about. I gotta say, when i first picked this option i was stunned. I did NOT expect him to act in this way, but it was a pleasant surprise. Mr. Ward is very perceptive and i love this confident attitude of his.
Tumblr media
MC asks him what is on his mind, and he comes back to reality. Baxter encourages them to continue, but they insist he tells them what's going on. And that's what he does. He says that he was remembering a "funny story". Then he asks MC if they want to know something absolutely embarrassing. With that kind of an opening, how could they refuse?
Baxter tells them that Jude and Scott attempted to speak to him about his and MC's... situation. He was surprised that they noticed he was sad and wanted to help him, when he was supposed to be doing that with their relationship. I think it was his feelings of inferiority that made him feel that way.
Moving on, the reason he brought that up wasn't to draw attention to how his poor relationship management skills made others concerned for him. But rather to point out, that the men knew, that MC is important to Baxter. Baxter states that he was grateful they met and despite ending their relationship five years ago, he was never sorry he knew MC. He is kinda chaotic with his admission, one second bringing up the chat with the grooms and the other expressing his affection for MC.
Understandably, it makes MC confused. They thought they were the one leading the dance - or the conversation in this case - but clearly now it's Baxter doing that (i mean he is a professional). Even so, he isn't as good with his words as usual and doesn't quite manage to convey what he wants to MC.
Tumblr media
He thanks MC for letting him "ramble" for so long and stands up. Shit's getting real. We're about to enter the boss fight.
He moves to sit on the edge of the coffee table, which puts him at the eye level with MC, only closer than before. And then this silly man leans closer acting all calm and confident. Dude. Please. Everytime i play this moment i lose my precious ability to formulate thoughts, not to mention actual sentences. Because. Oh my god.
Tumblr media
And then he hits you with THAT. He absolutely knew what MC was thinking about and he is having a lot of fun with teasing them. They realize that he caught on to what was going on and figure that at least it makes it easier to confess. The dialogue varies in this place because of the comfort level - these are their thoughts on the Direct setting. They also think about how hard would it be to tell him they liked him before he opened up to them. I find it pretty funny, because it’s clearly a tiny poke, towards players who did confess right after the wedding and faced this struggle. When you’re replaying those moments it does make you chuckle.
Now we can finally confess our feelings! When doing that verbally there are a couple of options to choose from, as in the case of the wedding confession. One of the options is: "Could I consider all the time we spent together a date?" and you already know i love this one. It's playful, it's a reference to when Baxter asked MC out five years ago, it's perfect. There is no contender, i always choose it.
...Is what i would say, but i actually always choose the option to confess with a kiss during this feelings reveal.
Confessing with a kiss looks a bit different from the first confession. This time there aren't multiple options to choose where we want to kiss him, MC goes straight (or is it?) for the lips. And the way that kiss is described is everything to me. I'm an absolute sucker for kissing scenes and this one is just so, so, so good! I cannot find fitting words in english (and neither can i in polish) so i'll just drop one screenshot from it and move along before i combust.
Tumblr media
It's so tender and sweet and adorable please-
While Baxter was acting super confident and cocky, the second MC declares their love for him/moves to kiss him he turns into a shy, blushing mess. Despite knowing or at least suspecting what MC was about to do he is still caught of guard. I think that his reaction is absolutely adorable. Baxter doesn't blush a lot, so it's always a treat when he does.
We can choose to tell Baxter, that MC wanted to be with him even five years ago and this stuns him again.
Now that MC have confessed their love they're waiting for Baxter to respond. But GOD, is he struggling. It's the first time Baxter is so flustered and it makes me so giddy. He allows himself to show how much MC means to him and holy shit, this man cannot look at them for too long because he will just blush even harder.
Tumblr media
From the way he is acting it's already clear that he reciprocates MC's feelings. But the fact that he gets so shy? Stole my heart, sir how dare you be so cute.
Of course, Baxter Ward cannot stay flustered for long and he eventually recovers. Damn it.
His response to the confession is so sweet. He basically says "my turn" and tells MC all the things he loves about being with them, how they made him feel and how much he appreciates them. There is still a moment of self-loathing, when Baxter regrets trying to keep MC out of his life- twice. He is surprised that MC still has feelings for him, still wants to be with him despite all the pain he caused them.
He still brings up all the potential reasons why this could be a bad idea. Limited connections, his current financial situation and his past ways of managing relationships. But unlike in the Wedding Confession, here those aren't statements for MC to refute. I'd say they are less of a warning for MC and more of an expose of himself, to be sure that he revealed everything he considers a flaw before accepting their confession. "By all accounts, I shouldn't be doing this. But I am." - those are his words. Even if he still has his doubts, he isn't going to turn MC down anymore. If he let them go now, in fear of potentially not being enough in this relationship, he would regret it.
And so that is his response: "If you'll have me you will have me." Don't mind if i do- yoink.
While he calmed down a bit for this admission, he gets flustered yet again. It's so adorable to see him be so affected by MC and this situation.
Tumblr media
Baxter says that it was easier asking MC out himself all those years ago. He is still so out of it that he voices out loud that he has no idea what to do now. His usual grace and poise are still on leave it seems. He follows it up with that it would be the best if he switched from sitting on the coffee table to somewhere with a backrest, just in case. Dude. Baxter is so strongly impacted by this confession that he is fully aware that there is a possiblity that he will just topple down. I'm melting, it's so cute!
He moves to the couch and MC joins him over there. Once Baxter calms down a bit, he says he is starting to "remember some possiblities" and the two kiss again. I can't even begin describe how much i love the way the kissing moments are written. They're amazing and i'm losing my mind.
The last question Baxter has is if his feelings were obvious to MC. He recounts when Jude asked him point-blank if he was still 'into' MC - we get a couple of dialogue answers to pick, either reacting to Jude even asking about it or answering Baxter's question.
And that is the end of this confession! Baxter overcomes his sheepishness at last, no longer blushing intensely. Quite a shame, but i think we all love his usual charming self as well.
There are no more reservations about showing his true feelings. The pair has been reunited after five years and are finally ready to start a long-term relationship. Good for them <3
Baxter shares one last thought at the end of this long conversation:
Tumblr media
And yes, this is the other reason why i call this confession the Morning Confession specifically! It's entirely because of Baxter pointing it out. And because he is so surprised about this turn of events.
The second part is finally over! I worked on it during those two weeks (holy fuck, why) it took me to post it. I'm a bit bummed it took me this long to finish it, but i did my best <3
This part is definitely longer than the first, the brainrot got to me. I haven't started the third part yet but i already replayed the last confession scene and honestly? I forgot how good it was compared to the other two! Shame on me, truly.
See you in the third part! Peace out~

I'm pretty intrigued by the dynamic between Ketheric and Isobel because it reminds me so much of what I experienced being emotionally enmeshed with one of my parents for my entire childhood.
I think most people understand the weight of being parentified when a child must get a job to help contribute money to the family. But I don't think very many people understand what it's like growing up with a parent who over-relies on family members to be emotionally stable - and eventually having to take on the role as the go-to person to be that stability.
Of feeling suffocated by such an overly needy parent - who controls via their emotional needs and griefs - that makes you act in certain ways because surely you don't want to be the death of your parent.
I'm right at the end of Act 2, so the game may say otherwise, but I wonder how Isobel feels about everything happening.
"Your father loved you so much that he brought you back from the dead," sounds so kindly at first. But the sinister truth beyond the obsession is living knowing the fact that the only thing keeping the man alive is you. Once your mother's godforsaken task - now yours.
The game may play up that she resents this, but in my experience there is a love/hate growing up under this dynamic with a parent. You resent this parent for a reason you can't quite put your finger on as a kid, but its the resentment of being made to emotionally soothe them when they never soothe you: which was supposed to be their job. You, as the child, rely on them for survival. You have to look like everything is ok because your parent being upset is so catastrophic (that they will be too dysfunctional to meet your survival needs) that your own needs feel less important.
But on the flip side, you do become parentified in a role reversal. You can't help but love your parent and want the best for them. The emotional abuse is so subtle and imperceptible, that it just makes sense that you would never assert a boundary with your parent because of how much it would throw them into a depression. Being rejected by the one person who loves them.
I wonder how upset Isobel was when Ketheric began drifting from Selune to Shar. How, like a parent, she might have felt like he should have known better. How her own parent felt like a rotten, naive child in doing so. What if a hidden reason for Isobel holding firmly to Selune was to try to convince him. Not every action is tied to the enmeshed parent, but sometimes there are undermining doubts that maybe you're still not acting on your own behalf and still feel like you have to support a parent who should be living their own life - not sucking lifeforce from you.
I kind of feel for Isobel because she seems sweet, and even with the snark, there may be a genuine sensitivity within her that makes emotionally unstable people flock to her like an oasis in the desert (which is an experience I relate to). I even fear that with Aylin's PTSD, Isobel will just be put in that role again of emotional caretaker - being the only thing that grounds Aylin out of her rages. And that scares me.
From a note found in Isobel's room, I feel like she will fall into a depression now that she's been brought to life. Her father soon to be dead. And perhaps now, she will be stuck in a repeating cycle. Where she is always the beacon of hope for others out of necessity rather than living the life that should have always been hers and only hers.
If she dies, will the people around her desperately want to revive her as well? Because she shines so brightly they can't live without her light?

Any recommendations for longer-than-one-shot games that feature player characters managing a tension between two (or more) of their characteristics?
I love a Lasers & Feelings hack, but they're definitely not geared for campaigns!
THEME: Character Tension!!!
Hello friend! I couldn’t think of many games that used the same kind of tension present in Lasers and Feelings, but Honey Heist hits a lot of the same key notes I think - that of pulling your characters closer and closer to one end or the other. So I looked for games that give you tools to alter your chances of success - at the cost of pulling you towards one sort of ending or another. These endings shouldn’t be something you can hit in only one game, but is likely to happen over the course of a short campaign.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ares Ascendant, by Dan Brown.
Colonizing Mars is more than an exercise of grit and technology and science. It’s politics and economics, too. It’s forming a new social, political, and economic framework in which humanity can thrive, all within a hostile environment. Human achievement won’t be marked by getting to Mars. It will be marked by humanity’s ability to stay there.
In Ares Ascendant, players assume the roles of Earth’s best and brightest, the group who will establish the first Martian colony. They won’t start entirely from scratch, as their transport ship is loaded with supplies, and unmanned vessels have been dropping equipment over the last several years. Despite the head start, however, the group will be responsible for getting things ready for more colonists.
Ares Ascendant uses the PARAGON system, replacing the Glory/Pathos meters with a Renown/Fatigue dichotomy instead. Your characters are trying to develop the first Martian colony, which is both a high-profile and a taxing job. When you do the best out of your companions on an action, you gain Renown, which basically acts as a measure of how many people will remember what you contributed to the mission.
If you want to increase your chances of success on any given roll, you can spend a point of Fatigue to push yourself and add an extra dice from one of your character’s Domains. If you fill up your Fatigue track, you mark a point of Reputation. When you fill your Reputation track, your story is over, and your Renown will determine how well-known you are. All in all, how hard will you push yourself, and will you lose your chance at making history if you try too hard to succeed on your own?
Ash Island, by Brian Binh.
Ash Island is a roleplaying game of pain, darkness, despair, and hope for a GM and one or more players, set in a fog-shrouded New England town on a small island dominated by an evil force that manifests the characters' own inner demons to torment them.
You take the role of anchorites, unfortunate souls bound to the dark spirit of the island by the unique suffering of their own personal sins or trauma. You answered the island's siren call and find yourself trapped in a ghost town full of dangerous monsters. Unarmed and alone, you must use your talents to explore, arm yourself, and find a way to escape. Of course, you can't just run away. There's something else you have to do first…
Ash Island is built on the Ruled by Night SRD, which uses two pools of resources called Shadow and Flame. I’m not entirely sure if these pools retain the same name in this hack, but the way they work should stay the same. You can accumulate Shadow through successfully stealthing from one point to another, while you accumulate Flame when you must resort to (loud and flashy) violence. A higher Flame pool requires you to spend more Shadow in order to have a success, and you can only reduce your Flame after you’ve taken care of another penalty called Suspicion. These two pools should pull your characters between a way out that is difficult but keeps you safe, or a way out that is easy but draws more and more danger your way.
Part-Time Gods, by Third Eye Games.
The gods of today are shadows of what the old gods possessed. Their power has been heavily diminished, and many choose to live a regular, mortal life, revealing themselves as gods only when absolutely necessary. They have a mortal life, a job (or career if they’re lucky), friends, family, and everything that comes with being human, and they work hard to protect these things from harm. On the other side of the coin, they also have a Dominion to command and oversee, a deific Territory to defend from intruders, secret societies to which they owe allegiances (called Theologies), and other gods in their pantheon to try to get along with. This becomes their life, the balancing of the mortal and the divine, the normal and the supernatural, the mundane and the strange.
Part-Time Gods Second Edition (PTG2E) is the latest iteration of an amazing setting about gods and the people, groups, and places in their lives that keep them tied to their humanity.
In Part-Time Gods, your character has to balance how much of their time they spend on their godly duties, and how much of their time they spend on their mundane jobs and relationships. When you create your character, you’ll take options that give you either more free time or more money, and both of these resources are needed to help manage your responsibilities. This game does a really good job of exemplifying the balancing act of your characters’ lives in it’s rules - although it also requires a bit of bookkeeping in order to keep track of all of your responsibilities. Out of all of the games listed here, I think PTG is the most suited for a very long campaign.
Cthulhu Deep Green, by Dissonance.
Building upon the groundwork set out in Cthulhu Dark by Graham Walmsley, Cthulhu Deep Green contains a modified rules set for playing as Agents of The Conspiracy: a shadowy government agency tasked with concealing evidence of the supernatural.
Cthulu Deep Green has a fairly simplistic ruleset, with one character resource called Stress that you will mark every time you roll. In CDG, you will often find yourself rolling with something called a Dark Dice, which will add to your Stress level if it is the highest-rolled result out of your entire pool. Adding a Dark Dice might be required if you want a chance to success, or to re-try for something better, but take too much and you’ll burn out. I’m not entirely sure how fast the Stress accumulation happens in this game - I think if your play group is roleplay heavy, you might be able to play this game over quite a few sessions before your characters get completely burned out.
Those of Us Who Know Better, by C.J.Linton.
Those of Us Who Know Better is a tabletop roleplaying game about transgender superheroes whose powers come at a price. Civilians by day, in community every other Thursday evening, and heroes by night, the players use their powers to problem solve and offer protection and support around town. These powers must be used sparingly, however, because every use of a superpower demands a specific and costly remuneration.
The tension that exists in this game lies in the consequences of using your powers. When you create your superhero, you choose a superpower and a consequence. You can use the superpower, but immediately after you must do something else, as well as take a (temporary) hit to one of your stat modifiers. As a result, your stats will increase and decrease as you play.
Games I've Talked About Before
Apocalypse Keys is all about fighting the Harbinger inside you; you have the potential to both save the world and end it - will your companions save you from your doom, or drag you closer to it?
The Empire Undying uses the same number-between-two-stats as Lasers and Feelings, but I think it's designed for a longer run-time than just a one-shot, and not just because you're using a larger number range (2-9 instead of 2-5).

Princess
Enemies to lovers with Eddie Munson x fem!reader.
summary: you were a cheerleader and best friends with Jason and his goons, and after realizing that your old dealer quit, you only had one dealer left in Hawkins, and you happened to hate him, but you still had to get weed.
Or... two times you stopped Eddie's flirting and argued with him and the one time you flirted back.
warnings: explicit +18, insults, cursing, drug selling (it doesn't specify that y/n consumes it, so if you're not comfortable with smoking it, you can read it still), making out, suggestive content.
a/n: we need more enemies to lovers fics with eddie munson!!
Tumblr media
"What else do we need for tonight, Jason?" Andy asked after the cheerleading practice was over, some basketball players were there waiting for their girlfriends. Among them were Jason waiting for Chrissy and Andy waiting for his girlfriend Jess.
You weren’t one of the cheerleaders with a boyfriend though.
"We still need the weed and maybe more bottles of vodka" Jason answered.
"We can just invite the dealer to the party and buy there" Jess suggested.
"The problem is that our usual dealer isn't working anymore, said something about wanting a proper job or something" one of the guys said.
"We don't have a dealer now?"
"Well, we have one choice left, but I don't think you're gonna like it"
Everyone stared at Andy waiting for him to finish his sentence.
"Eddie Munson sells"
"No way, we're not inviting that freak to our party" Jason quickly said.
"Then we won't have weed"
"But why can't we just buy it before hand?" Jess interfered.
"I'm not talking to that freak"
"Noup, me neither" They all started fighting over that until Jason stoped it.
"We're gonna make this fair, we all bought and contributed to what we need fo the party, except for Y/n and Jess, so one of them is going to buy more vodka and the other is going to Munson to buy the weed"
"I'll buy the vodka!" Jess responded quickly.
"Wait! no, why do I have to go with the freak?!" you complained.
"It's only fair, Y/n, you took too long"
You were about to complain again but they all started to disperse letting you know that it was decided, you were buying from the freak.
So that's how you ended up here in the woods, trying to find the metalhead you hated so much.
"There you are! I thought you were standing me up, princess" He talked and you turned around finally meeting him.
"Oh God, I got lost because of these stupid woods you wanted me to come" you responded annoyed.
"I always have the meetings here" he said calmed.
"Alright, can we just get this over with?"
"Are you in a rush, princess, or you just don't want to be with me?" he said teasingly.
"Both, and can you stop calling me that?"
"What" he played dumb.
"Princess"
"I thought it suited you, with you being the princess of Hawkins High and everything" he joked.
"Thinking like that, I should be calling you a freak" you teased back.
"Ohh no, it hurts so bad" he put his hands on his chest where his heart is, acting as if he's hurt.
"So funny, Munson, can you just give me the weed?"
"Yeah, here it is, it's gonna be 50"
"That much?"
"Well, it is a lot of weed and you kind of annoyed me a little, so yeah, that much"
"Eddie if I were you- well, I'd change a lot of things about myself if I were you, but I would think this through. Because I don't think you're realizing that I'm friends with all of the jocks that dislike you so much, and would be so happy to have a reason to kick your ass. So give me the real price or I'll go tell them about this" you threatened.
"Oh, is the princess gonna go tell on me? Is the princess gonna make all of her friends beat me up because I didn't treat her like one?" he came closer to you while he talked. "Oh, please, princess I'll be good, I'll treat you so right" he stood on his knees for that last part, acting as if he was asking for mercy right in front of you.
"You're unbearable"
"Alright, I'll tell you what, I'll give it to you for..."he stopped a second to think "30, just because it's fun to see you annoyed"
"So sweet of you"
For your luck, this wasn't the only time you had to meet to buy from him. Since the old dealer quit and your friends actually liked the weed Eddie sold. You were assigned to be the one who bought from him. You convinced yourself that it was better than to be the one who's house was used for the parties, which was John.
"We meet again, sweetheart" he greeted you when you got to your usual meeting spot in the woods.
"Yeah, hi Munson"
"You're incredible, you always find a way to be colder and colder each time we see each other"
"And somehow, you always find a way to be more and more annoying each time"
"I told you why, it's fun to see you annoyed, you get all red and you frown your eyebrows trying to look mean with that adorable face you've got" It just slipped from Eddie, he re-thought the entire sentence since it hadn't had sounded so much like a complement in his head. It definitely wasn't supposed to be.
"Now I'm adorable too? be careful, if you keep calling me all of these names, I'm gonna end up thinking you have a crush on me" you teased.
"I have standards and they're definitely not cheerleaders like you, sorry to disappoint you"
"Yeah right, as if you could even get a cheerleader, and what standards are you talking about? you'd be with anyone who'd give you the time of the day trying to loose you virginity"
"Oh I'm not a virgin anymore, sweetheart. I'd offer to show you but I don't think you could handle it, maybe calling me a freak was correct after all" he joked.
"That's- disgusting" you started "but there was the name calling again, watch it Munson"
"What names?"
"You've called me sweetheart and adorable, all in one day"
"Well, you said you didn't like being called princess"
"So thoughtful of you, but I'd prefer if you didn't call me anything and just gave me my stuff"
"Here you go, sweetie"
"Here’s your 30, goodbye Munson"
"Bye love!" you rolled your eyes, you shouldn't have said anything.
After your delightful encounter with Munson, you went to the lunchroom and to the table with all the cheerleaders, your friends, and started to eat and chat with them.
"Did you get the weed for this weekend, y/n?" Samantha asked you.
"I did, had to put up with Munson though, so you better appreciate my efforts"
"Oh, he's not that bad, the guys make him look worse than he is" Chrissy defended him.
"Are you friends with him?" you asked.
"I wouldn't say friends, acquaintance, maybe. But I chat with him every now and then. I've known him since middle school, oh and I had a crush on him when I was in freshman year" she laughed at the memory.
"Yeah, I kinda get it, I prefer him with longer hair though, he looks way hotter now" Jess added and Chrissy nodded.
"Hot? Eddie Munson? What are you talking about?" you asked, you couldn't believe them.
"Oh, come on Y/n, I'd get it if you were one of the guys, but please, the long hair, the tattoos and the rings? you can't tell me you've never noticed"
The conversation about Eddie eventually stopped, not before all of the other girls in your table agreed that they would like to know what's under the black ripped jeans and the hellfire shirt that Eddie wore almost everyday.
You were taken aback, you've never thought about him like that. Maybe you were paying too much attention to what the basketball players said about the dungeon master, instead of thinking for yourself.
And when you really thought about it, maybe your friends were right, maybe he really was hot. You could even find him cute if you focused on his face, his brown doe eyes and pink lips.
God, stop thinking about Eddie Munson and just go to sleep already!
For your next gathering with him, you were far more nervous than usually. Now that you have admitted that you could find him attractive, you couldn't stop thinking about him, spotting him in every crowd.
And you definitely couldn't stop thinking about the time he told you that he could prove to you that he wasn't a virgin, but that it would be too much for you.
Good God, just stop that brain.
Back to where you were now, in the woods waiting for this boy you couldn't get out of your head.
"Princess! You're early today, couldn't wait to see me?" He appeared with his usual smirk and teasing.
You didn't know how to treat him now. Should you be cold like always? Or maybe more flirty like he was? maybe he would find it weird if you acted nice all of the sudden.
"Sure, Eddie" ugh what even was that?
"I have your stuff right here, so I don't bother you with my presence anymore for this week" he joked and waited for your witty comeback.
"It's fine" you softly said and shook your head.
He frowned.
"Ok, love, you're actually scaring me today"
"Um- I- Uh fine, just give my stuff and I'll leave you alone" you said not looking at him anymore.
"What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing's wrong Eddie! Can't I just be nice?" you started to get a little frustrated.
"You can, you don't usually decide to be with me though"
"I know, I don't even know what I'm trying to do right now, just give me the bag so I can leave, Eddie"
"You keep calling me Eddie"
"What?"
"You never call me Eddie, you always call me Munson or freak"
"Yeah, you already let me know I'm acting weird today"
"I like it, I like how it sounds when you say it"
You stared at him with a little shock, not knowing how to react at that.
"Well... maybe I like when you call me princess too" you whispered, fearing that if you said it too loud it would be too real.
He hear you though and there was that smirk again.
"I knew that" he whispered back "care to explain what made you flirt back with me? not that I'm complaining"
"Thought you had standards, and that they definitely didn't include cheerleaders" you teased.
"You're too hot for standards, I knew you were going to be the exception anyways"
"I'm flirting back because, I guess I just stopped caring about what the jocks say"
"Are you sure you're not just doing this so you can get a discount?" he joked and you both laughed.
"Tell you what, I'd love to prove to you that I'm not messing with you, but I don't think you could handle me" you teased him.
"Oh sweetheart, I'm begging you to prove me wrong"
"Yeah?" he nodded "come here"
He came closer to you, you wrapped your hands around his neck, and he grabbed you by your waist with care, not really believing this was actually happening.
You pulled him even closer to your face, put your lips over his, barely touching them, feeling his hot breath on your mouth and making him feel yours.
Until you finally kissed him.
It started slow and sweet, but when you started playing with his hair, slightly pulling from it, making him moan softly. He wrapped his hands around your waist pressing you against him and you started to kiss more passionately.
Eventually, you pulled away from each other's lips, but still close to him, playing with his hair.
"I realized that I really really like you, that's why I was trying to be nicer" you confessed.
"I really, really, really like you too, if you didn't notice before"
"Kinga figured" you joked.
"Oh yeah? Is that right?" he laughed and kissed your cheek "Want to go out with me this weekend, princess?"
"I'd love that, Eddie"
"And then maybe later we can go to my room and I can show how much of a virgin I am"
"How romantic" you laughed now, only if you knew he wasn't joking about being a real freak.

one of the most interesting things to me about tom's ladder-climbing is the fact that he was clearly not, in fact, that low to begin with. in a deleted scene from 2x3, he reveals that his dad teaches media studies - and has presumably done so as a career for most if not all of tom's life, given that this information is an argument against the notion of tom being a poor child. whether his mom's status as a Respected Twin Cities Divorce Lawyer was a factor back then too, at the very least his family could afford to recreationally hunt game.
but tom also says himself that he's been thinking his whole life about money. how to get money, how to keep money.
so the thing i have to wonder is, was that ever an issue? the wambsganses don't seem to have ever been anything but upper middle class. but who knows, maybe they've had their low spots. maybe tom had a mostly spoiled childhood but then the economy hit them kinda rough for a time. that would certainly inform tom specifying "how to keep money." maybe he's had to learn the hard way, in his formative years, how abruptly you could lose what had become normal to you if you weren't careful.
clearly tom's parents have been doing well for likely some years before the events of the show. but also not so well that their "contribution" to the wine at tom's wedding doesn't feel like a huge chunk of change to them. they're still at the point that they don't have the decorum not to act like money is a huge deal, which is telling. i have to imagine that, similar to greg, tom has been helping his parents out a bit since his salary has hit 6 figures. who knows how much of the money his parents spent was just tom's money to begin with - maybe none at all. maybe he's only paid off some debts and allowed their own income to pile up, and all they needed was that temporary safety net. it's likely enough that tom's dad's teaching salary has grown exponentially because of his age and experience, and that mom wambsgans has seen a huge boom in clients in recent years.
something else to consider is shiv's description of tom's family as striving -- which, while there is a lot of hostility at play during that whole scene, i believe is essentially true. thinking about that line and then about tom's parents in prenuptials, you get a really vivid image of the way the middle class desperately mimics the upper class. the way that, every once in a while, they can afford to. and then their desperation gives them away.
tom was raised by two very ambitious people, and it's trickled down to him. he was absolutely raised with an overt and vocally repeated message of do well in school, get into a good college, get a high-paying job. maybe they even told him better than ours... even though it seems his parents are to some extent following personal passions. divorce attorney and media studies professor aren't the kind of jobs that anyone does just because it pays well. they're both specializing in their fields, which is evidence enough of a real attachment to those careers even if we didn't also have mom demanding to see tom's prenup, and frankly the fact alone that tom himself went into media. like, if there was ever a sense of passion in tom's career, that was probably the connecting piece. after all, what boy doesn't want to impress his dad?
...and it's for that reason that i do not think tom was specifically told to be a business major. i feel pretty certain that he wouldn't have been discouraged from a career that made him happy unless it was a completely fruitless passion. but i don't know if i should then necessarily figure the opposite: that tom was ever specifically encouraged to find something to be passionate about. i can't imagine a tom any older than 10 trying to declare ambitions that were purely artistic in the first place. i might just be biased but tom seems like the type who has had this intuition from birth: to understand what others wanted from him and do it. i would say that, similarly to greg, simply being loved and approved of is tom's passion. and by god did he do it.
one last thing that stays on my mind is that tom went to an ivy league school, which i believe his own merit is somewhat responsible for. but, in contrast to greg now, i seriously doubt that tom has ever totally lacked a cushion. i think he had some relatively breezy college years. he studied hard, of course, and knowing that he was being supported the whole time likely helped.
(and he spent all that time at school, and another 2-4 years at another school, and still showed up in manhattan yet without a shell.)
obviously there's no telling exactly how much luck tom grew up with. a middle-class family's finances could easily be all over the place in a matter of 18 years. and they really probably were, because why else would keeping money be such a concern? and why would it stick so hard?
it's just interesting to think of how much more privileged tom's childhood must have been compared to so many, greg included, and yet how the roys are just so far up that it makes their situations feel equal.

BPP! You mentioned somewhere that releasing music during enlistment was legal. Is that true? My understanding was that idols were not allowed to earn from their day jobs while in the military.
There is talk of two BTS members releasing albums while away during military service. Most likely this is rumoured to be Jimin and RM. Why would they release an album if they cannot earn from it? Hybe would never give a free album.
Also. Why would they release music when they are not able to promote it? Especially Jimin who only went through a 9 day promotion period for Face. And RM, who had been working very hard for something different (I think he said it in his interview/live that next work will be completely different). Would they not want that promotion time?
I honestly find it quite baffling when some fans argue that that Jimin and RM don’t want the commercial success. I am pretty sure they do so it is surprising that they would be releasing albums while away.
***
It being legal has nothing to do with whether or not Jimin/RM want commercial success.
For every question you asked, direct it to Kai who enlisted before EXO released Exist - an album he contributed to and was profiting from while not promoting it. Or to all the actors who enlist and their projects are released for profit without incident. It's legal. They can't access this profit until their service is over, and that's understood and accepted by all parties.
The issue with Baekhyun was a mob of rival stans from SM groups making a stink, because up to that point Baekhyun was perceived to be the favourite of the company alongside Taemin. People were going to use outside pressure, given the issue involves public perception and the military, they were willing to use that to humble Baekhyun. SM acted to protect their own image even though the initial claims were baseless so their action was unnecessary.
The repeat of the same thing is happening now, with EXO/SM stans angry that BTS, the perceived 'favourite', is putting out music their own fave wasn't able to even if that means ignoring people from their own company (like Kai) who also had no issues. These people are hoping HYBE rolls over and pulls the BTS projects. It's just the classic SM stan coping mechanism of directing their angst/anger/frustration at BTS/ARMYs rather than at SM for the company's own incompetence. That's how a company that's been in as many criminal cases as SM, still has this many loyal fans than critics.
Personally, I'm not invested one way or the other. We don't know what the format of the releases will look like. Whether there'll be filmed performances or not. Most of the time Coldplay performed My Universe BTS wasn't there, so it's not like there's no precedent for the members not actively participating in promoting a song. Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see but personally, I'm looking forward to everything the members have prepared.

(splatoon post) i'll never stop thinking about agent 3 even though the way i think of them is only supported by like. 2% of canon.
you're just some 14-year-old living in the same country you've lived in your entire life but you dream of the big city. your parents are pretty aloof (a trait you inherited) so it's no huge ceremony when you leave behind both them and your childhood to live on your own. you happen to wander into some sliver of a government sector that's been long unused, recruited to do some field work, sure it's strange and unfamiliar but maybe that's what you were looking for in the first place and you sure as hell already know how to hold a gun. so, you put your life on the line, beating back the uprising of a race that was beaten underground over a century ago. you save the world and nobody knows it, but it's fine, you don't like attention and prefer to do more scouting missions with your boss than go back to your old life (you get the feeling you couldn't return even if you tried).
you're 16 now. you wear a cape emblazoned with the number 3, your number, because you're the third agent and you saved the world (by being a weapon, something you're better at than being a person) so maybe it's better to assume that as your namesake too. while underground, you find yourself faced with an enemy soldier and you do what you always do. they put up a decent fight. they're dangerous. you have to protect... your family? you haven't seen them in years (which you made no effort to remedy). your friends? you always had trouble making those (and the other two agents can hardly be called your friends. they only talk to you because they have to). your home? (have you ever really had one?) you press on, until suddenly you both stumble and fall into the depths of a facility nobody leaves.
your boss is missing and isn't answering your messages, so you wander around for hours, days, weeks, who even knows anymore. you steal some sort of communication device from an employee who seems more dead than alive and, eventually, you receive a distress call and that's when you see them, they know they're going to die, and you don't even think before rushing down to save them, your last thought being the odd feeling that this is the one time your job has had you doing something right. you wake up days later with a scar on your face and the reality that you tried to kill them again. no matter how much they forgive you, "you were under mind control after all," it doesn't stick because you know you were lucid the first time you put their life in danger. you learn they're 14.
you're 21 and you're doing badly. you're in charge now, having assumed your boss's role. you do your job and it doesn't occur to you how you were a young teen with identity issues snapped up by the military to be used as a tool with no identity. you don't think about your contribution to hastening the death of people that are starting to look more and more like you. you don his hat and responsibilities (and war crimes, if such a concept existed in your society) but your wardrobe isn't any better. ratty sweatpants with holes in them paired with flip flops, yeah, you're the pinnacle of mental health. doesn't help that you have two celebrities in your entourage that only hang around because you're coworkers. you would want to be friends if you thought you could, but after what you did to 8 you can't fully trust yourself around others anymore.
you have battle scars now. they don't act like badges of honor signifying your bravery or skill. they're a warning to others, a reminder to yourself of who you are. you still wear your cape for the same reason.

Sorry if you've already answered this before but I'm new to the fandom and I found your account through your web-comic and I was wondering what is it about Gavin that you like so much? Why is he one of your favourite characters in dbh? (I've noticed that he isn't much of a fan-favourite in this fandom 😔)
This'll be a long post, but you asked (...and I'll happily answer!) I'll add some descriptions for context. At the top of my head, I can think of 21 reasons why I like his canon equivalent.
1. He's charismatic
Gav gives off an energy that makes it easy to hang onto his every word. I can quote all his lines by heart and I like listening to Neil Newbon (in this specific role) talk. I remember some of Kamski's lines as well -- also mo-capped/voice acted by Newbon -- but Kamski doesn't have nearly as much charisma as Gav does.
2. He's expressive
Ppl who 'talk with their hands' are more charismatic. Gav is all over the place in the break room if you stick around. Hand gestures capture people's attention as they emphasize what is being said.
3. He doesn't think androids are alive (...so in his eyes, the way he treats them isn't wrong)
"Could always try roughin' it up a little. After all... it's not human." - Gavin Reed, The Interrogation
That means he wouldn't rough up a human suspect. This alone justifies his unpleasant attitude towards androids. Hank -- who treated Connor way worse than Gav ever did -- changed his mind. Nothing says Gav can't do the same.
If Alexa suddenly said she was alive, the vast majority wouldn't take it seriously (if any at all.)
4. He's sarcastic
"Congratulations on last night, very impressive." - Gavin Reed, Waiting For Hank...
5. He has dark humor
Tumblr media
6. He looks down on people that pay for s*x
Quote above. You don't call someone a "pervert" if you agree with their actions. The Eden Club, in particular, is immoral AF... bc those androids don't have a choice. Gav doesn't care about them being androids, but he still looks down on the guy who paid money to get laid, and I applaud Gav for that. Especially when said guy also had a wife and kids.
7. He has valid concerns about androids taking jobs
Anyone who says differently is either in denial, uninformed, or never had a job they were scared to get fired from. There's already been an uproar about ChatGPT and that's nothing compared to how advanced Detroit: Become Human androids are. The unemployment rate in this game is 37% -- higher than it was during the Great Depression and C*VID -- and androids are the main cause.
I've seen a lot of ppl ask this question:
Q: Why not just buy an android and have them do your job for you, then? You get the money anyway bc it's your android!
A: Bc, believe it or not, the vast majority of men want to work. This is a strange concept to grasp for a lot of ppl. I admire Gav for being one of those men who wants to do it themselves. Letting someone else do your job is taking the easy way out.
8. He's a hard worker
Gallery: "...Ruthlessly ambitious, Reed will do anything to advance his career, even if it means treading on other peoples’ toes."
9. He's ambitious
See the quote above.
10. He doesn't sleep well
This isn't just a headcanon. He has literal bags under his eyes. Just knowing he doesn't sleep well already has me asking, "why?" It's interesting.
11. He puts his feet on the table
After Connor interacts with him in the break room, Gav will go to his desk and do this. I'll go into detail about why this contributes to my liking his character in the very last point.
12. He calls Hank out on his alcoholism
As much as most of us love Hank, he's not in a good space mentally. Showing up drunk/hungover to work should not be tolerated. It not only puts coworkers, but also civilians, at risk. Hank should be in therapy instead of working at the DPD until he gets his life sorted out.
13. He calls Fowler out for giving Hank special treatment
"You won't get away with it this time." - Gavin Reed, The Interrogation (after Hank pulls a literal gun on a human coworker AKA Gav)
So Gav has brought it up to Fowler before and is about to do it again. Ties into the point above. What Hank does -- like assaulting a literal FBI agent -- shouldn't be tolerated.
14. He's a control freak
I gravitate towards ppl and characters who take charge. Those who like being in control and know what they're doing. I'm a control freak myself, but I'd prefer to let someone else take the reins as long as I agree with their methods. I like it when ppl know what they want and act on it. Gav does both.
15. He's protective of his coworkers
I was unsure whether or not to add this as I guess it can be seen as a subjective theory and not an objective fact.
Gav only ever steps in with the gun in The Interrogation when Con uses aggressive force on Chris Miller by tearing him away from the deviant. Con did this after disobeying Gav 3 times. So yeah. Gav is justified for stepping in. Hank, on the other hand, isn't justified for pulling a gun on a human coworker. I see this scene as Gav protecting Chris from Con who is showing signs of deviancy.
16. He can't wink
Endearing.
17. He pouts a lot
Again, endearing.
18. He swears like a sneezing kitten
Same as the two points above.
19. He doesn't like Connor
I don't like Con, either. Yeah. We exist. Personality types like Con's "let's be friends" attitude and constant positivity pisses me off. Before anyone comments that the player decides Con's personality... no. Only to an extent. There are several instances where the player has no say whatsoever. Some of Con's pre-determined responses annoy me.
20. He has great fashion
Big fan of leather jackets.
21. I like him bc I'm a narcissist at times
He's essentially the male equivalent of me to the T. I'm only an asshole internally, though. We love (or hate) characters we relate to. I relate to every single point except 17 and 18 on this list.
There you go :)
His OOC fanon equivalent has a huge fanbase -- especially on Twitter/X and Tumblr turning him into a blushing teenage girl -- but it seems like I'm the only person who can't stand that OOC portrayal of him. That said, I adore his canon equivalent in all his asshole glory.

Another thing that upsets me about usopp haters! (im sorry, is just those people drive me nuts and for my mental health ill never interact with them because its not worth it, so I prefer to interact with you and other fans so we can all be "yeah those people are crazy, Usopp is great 🥂 we have good taste" together. Ehem I'm missing the point)
What upsets me is when they act like Usopp didn't have any moments in pre-ts, and they act like his only badass moments are shooting the world goverment flag (not even then, because they're always like "actually that was Sogeking" 😤 jokes over man, you are being obtuse on purpose) and that moment in Dressrosa, now I can't speak for post-ts because 😶 I'm still not caught up (stuck in post war, I'll keep going eventually), but my boy has many moments in pre ts. My favorite one being his fight against Perona, and one of the reasons its my favorite is because it comes very soon after Usopp has been feeling useless and weak (ok soon after for us, in universe it seems that Oda likes to leave certain characterizations in the arc that they appear and never mention them again...)
The anime quite literally spells it out for you that Usopp is incredibly important, and actually the reason why they didnt just all die in Thriller Bark, and there's STILL people out there saying Usopp is the most useless member *eating the drywall in my home*
Sorry I needed to get that off my chest.
If nobody got me, I know you Usopp fans got me 😔
Always fun to speak with Usopp fans on here! There’s a great community and a lot of great conversations to be had.
I really think a large part of this kind of fan reaction to Usopp is twofold. I also think a lot of these points are also applicable to Nami tbh. Firstly, I think that Usopp’s particular skills are undervalued by a lot of fans. He’s a long range fighter, not a close range one, and a lot of fans simply aren’t interested in that kind of battle because it’s not super flashy in the same way. His strengths also usually aren’t catered to in universe. For one reason or another he doesn’t get the chance to park himself somewhere and really get to do his job as sniper, and maybe if he did it would be a different story? I’m not sure though. His other skills (engineering, art, etc) also aren’t the coolest or flashiest but are necessary for the crew to function and don’t get a lot of hype in the same way either. In the same vein, I think a lot of people forget he’s forced up against literal monsters most of the time and in battles that aren’t his forte fighting wise, so in comparison he doesn’t get to shine. However he’s canonically extremely talented at basically everything he does.
Secondly, I think a lot of what he adds to the story and the crew is emotionally and character driven, and people who come to One Piece for the fights aren’t necessarily going to be drawn to that kind of contribution to the plot. If you’re interested in more low key character drama/development you may be compelled to pay attention to him in the story. But I think a good amount of people aren’t as interested in that element of the story and so don’t really pay attention.
There’s also the matter of the way some of his accomplishments are framed in universe tbh. Usopp is considered by a lot of fans to be kind of a meme character and so is treated like that accordingly. This includes all the Sogeking jokes and other things that mean that he isn’t really taken seriously by a lot of people unfortunately. But I think if anyone takes a closer look beyond the surface they’ll be able to see a really interesting character underneath! Especially pre time skip like you mentioned
I hope you enjoy your journey as you go further into the story! There’s a lot but it’s a great time and a lot of fun moments upcoming.

What makes me sad about the AI art discourse is how it's so close to hitting something really, really important.
The thing is, while the problem with the models has little to do with IP law...the fact remains that art is often something that's very personal to an artist, so it DOES feel deeply, incredibly fucked up to find the traces of your own art in a place you never approved of, nor even imagined you would need to think about. It feels uncomfortable to find works you drew 10-15 years ago and forgot about, thought nobody but you and your friends cared about, right there as a contributing piece to a dataset. It feels gross. It feels violating. It feels like you, yourself, are being reduced to just a point of data for someone else's consumption, being picked apart for parts-
Now, as someone with some understanding of how AI works, I can acknowledge that as just A Feeling, which doesn't actually reflect how the model works, nor is it an accurate representation of the mindset of...the majority of end users (we can bitch about the worst of them until the cows come home, but that's for other posts).
But as an artist, I can't help but think...wow, there's something kind of powerful to that feeling of disgust, let's use it for good.
Because it doesn't come from nowhere. It's not just petty entitlement. It comes from suddenly realizing how much a faceless entity with no conscience, sprung from a field whose culture enables and rewards some of the worst cruelty humanity has to offer, can "know" about you and your work, and that new things can be built from this compiled knowledge without your consent or even awareness, and that even if you could do something about it legally after the fact (which you can't in this case because archival constitutes fair use, as does statistical analysis of the contents of an archive), you can't stop it from a technical standpoint. It comes from being confronted with the power of technology over something you probably consider deeply intimate and personal, even if it was just something you made for a job. I have to begrudgingly admit that even the most unscrupulous AI users and developers are somewhat useful in this artistic sense, as they act as a demonstration of how easy it is to use that power for evil. Never mind the economic concerns that come with any kind of automation - those only get even more unsettling and terrifying when blended with all of this.
Now stop and realize what OTHER very personal information is out there for robots to compile. Your selfies. Your vacation photos. The blog you kept as a journal when you were 14. Those secrets that you only share with either a therapist or thousands of anonymous strangers online. Who knows if you've been in the background of someone else's photos online? Who knows if you've been posted somewhere without your consent and THAT'S being scraped? Never mind the piles and piles of data that most social media websites and apps collect from every move you make both online and in the physical world. All of this information can be blended and remixed and used to build whatever kind of tool someone finds it useful for, with no complications so long as they don't include your copyrighted material ITSELF.
Does this mortify you? Does it make your blood run cold? Does it make you recoil in terror from the technology that we all use now? Does this radicalize you against invasive datamining? Does this make you want to fight for privacy?
I wish people were more open to sitting with that feeling of fear and disgust and - instead of viciously attacking JUST the thing that brought this uncomfortable fact to their attention - using that feeling in a way that will protect EVERYONE who has to live in the modern, connected world, because the fact is, image synthesis is possibly the LEAST harmful thing to come of this kind of data scraping.
When I look at image synthesis, and consider the ethical implications of how the datasets are compiled, what I hear the model saying to me is,
"Look what someone can do with some of the most intimate details of your life.
You do not own your data.
You do not have the right to disappear.
Everything you've ever posted, everything you've ever shared, everything you've ever curated, you have no control over anymore.
The law as it is cannot protect you from this. It may never be able to without doing far more harm than it prevents.
You and so many others have grown far too comfortable with the internet, as corporations tried to make it look friendlier on the surface while only making it more hostile in reality, and tech expands to only make it more dangerous - sparing no mercy for those things you posted when it was much smaller, and those things were harder to find.
Think about facial recognition and how law enforcement wants to use it with no regard for its false positive rate.
Think about how Facebook was used to arrest a child for seeking to abort her rapist's fetus.
Think about how aggressive datamining and the ad targeting born from it has been used to interfere in elections and empower fascists.
Think about how a fascist has taken over Twitter and keeps leaking your data everywhere.
Think about all of this and be thankful for the shock I have given you, and for the fact that I am one of the least harmful things created from it. Be thankful that despite my potential for abuse, ultimately I only exist to give more people access to the joy of visual art, and be thankful that you can't rip me open and find your specific, personal data inside me - because if you could, someone would use it for far worse than being a smug jerk about the nature of art.
Maybe it wouldn't be YOUR data they would use that way. Maybe it wouldn't be anyone's who you know personally. Your data, after all, is such a small and insignificant part of the set that it wouldn't be missed if it somehow disappeared. But it would be used for great evil.
Never forget that it already has been.
Use this feeling of shock and horror to galvanize you, to secure yourself, to demand your privacy, to fight the encroachment of spyware into every aspect of your life."

A great cyberpunk machine covered in sci-fi computer monitors showing people fighting in the streets, squabbling over the latest tool derived from the panopticon, draped cables over the machine glowing neon bright, dynamic light and shadows cast over the machine with its eyes and cameras everywhere; there is only a tiny spark of relief to be found in the fact that one machine is made to create beauty, and something artfully terrifying to its visibility, when so many others have been used as tools of violent oppression, but perhaps we can use that spark to make a change Generated with Simple Stable

1.1.4 - "Works to Match Words"
well look who finally got caught up enough in their real job to do their les mis letters posts! (and figured out how to use the title feature!) oh boy there's so much here y'all.
the title immediately stands out to me - it reminds me of a bible verse, though I can't immediately pinpoint which one. a quick google tells me probably james 2:17 (faith without works is dead) but i think 1 john 3:18 fits better - "[...] let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth". this whole chapter is an exploration of what people *say* (or what their titles/positions say about them) vs what they *do*.
Pun Count is now 2 ("My highness cannot reach that shelf", maybe my fave pun in the whole book)!
Myriel refers to the Saint Augustine quote ("place your expectations in him to whom there is no succession") as being "something odd", just like Hugo later says he has his "own strange way of judging things" - driving home that point that for a priest to follow christ's actual words and intentions isn't the rule but the exception.
not sure how the anecdote about his cousin fits my words/works thesis but let me get to the end of this post and I bet I'll find it!
"using the tomb to feed their vanity" seems to imply there's something else these men should be using the tomb for - most likely a contemplation on heaven?
"A pennyworth of paradise" - lots here!! someone else brought up Myriel choosing to convince people to good acts through love rather than fear; we're seeing the fear approach work here, but only insofar as it gets Geborand to donate a single penny - a token contribution, a "work" that is more word than deed. he can say he was charitable, therefore he thinks he'll get into heaven. Myriel's saying it doesn't work that way - that a pennyworth of charity only gets you a pennyworth of paradise, perhaps also that the greater your works on earth, the greater your reward in heaven? this is a view I personally don't vibe all that much with as I feel like in practice it only encourages performative "works" instead of its intent (to reward fully those who were truly good). it *is* a very biblical take, though; see the beatitudes.
the Marquis de Champtercier - others have mentioned him as a kind of precursor to Gillenormand, which, yeah! the "words" here are the marquis claiming he's prioritizing his own poor while the actual work is to deny "Myriel's poor" his donation. Myriel (and I) disagree with the "my poor/your poor" distinction - the suffering of any person is the responsibility of all of us to alleviate, hence "give them to me". interestingly this was the first time i read this line as "give *them* to me" instead of "give them to *me*" - the latter is, again, Myriel saying he doesn't discriminate between "his" poor and the "Marquis' poor"; the former feels like an even cheekier followup to "you must give me something" - if it won't be money, it'll be "his" poor.
"God gives light to men, and the law sells it." Myriel is speaking literally here re: the door and window tax (which I know nothing about; what's the logic there??), but in a larger sense, he also isn't. Light is one of the things I'm specifically looking for on this read, and this feels like the setup for the points Hugo will make later with his other usages of light. God gives light - hope, love, education, belonging, whatever it is - to men, and the law - literally, but also just society and government - sells it (at a monetary cost but also a less tangible one - your soul? your humanity?) goddamn, I can't believe I never thought more about all the things Hugo is subtly setting up in these chapters and passing off as Sick Bishop Burns TM.
"My brethren, be compassionate; see how much suffering there is around you" - it says he's preaching this at "the cathedral", but I don't know much about the demographic of Digne at this time. are his parishioners mostly rich? mostly laborers? a mix?
I appreciate the inclusion of Myriel's knowledge of Southern dialects more now that I know a little about the context of Occitan/lenga d'oc/Provencal at this time! i want to spend some time researching the history and linguistics of Occitan here soon, it's fascinating to me.
lots of people have expressed that Myriel's doctrine of repressing the body so as not to sin as rubbing them the wrong way, and same. unfortunately it very much jibes with the Catholic view of sin. nothing'll give you Permanent Weird Feelings About Your Body And Specifically Sex like Catholicism! (this last to be read like a tagline on a commercial with, like, the Mr. Clean guy doing a thumbs up above it, only he's wearing a miter.) from a modern viewpoint I'd expect Myriel to think a bit differently on this point the way he does on a lot of other Church doctrine things, but I suppose if he really "got it from the Gospels" there's plenty of textual evidence to support that. ew, Catholicism.
also not the first person to point out "but be upright" as paralleling "un juste", the title of this book, but wow it's good.
gonna be vulnerable here and confess I don't really get what he's saying about the "offended hypocrisy" that's "quick to protest and run for cover". pot/kettle I guess? maybe it's just worded in a way I can't wrap my mind around.
again with the Big Three - women, children, and laborers (here "servants". Hugo via Myriel directly identifies the corresponding oppressors - husbands, fathers, and masters - but in this case I'm not sure how much I agree with those. masters certainly, but husbands and fathers? certainly they *can* be oppressive and create those conditions Hugo so strongly opposes, but not always - and in many cases those husbands/fathers are also laborers, so. I much prefer his followup of the strong, the rich, and the wise. once again Hugo says eat the rich.
"the guilty one is not he who commits the sin, but the one who causes the darkness." alright everyone, pack it up, we're done here, we've found the Main Idea! lmao can you imagine if that's where Hugo stopped? hilarious.
the counterfeiter. the "word" here is claiming to uphold justice, when the "work" is actually just upholding the law. I especially like the wording of saying the prosecutor had "brought truth to light" here - going to have to go grab my French text and see if this is a Hugo wording or a FMA wording, but either way it goes back to that theme of light - in this case, how the truth of the case isn't necessarily the same as the Light, the good.
the condemned man. there's so much here. "[Myriel] called [the condemned man] by his name" - this brings to mind musical!Valjean's line "my name is Jean Valjean!" when Javert persists in addressing him as 24601, as well as his later surprise when the bishop treats him like a person. sometimes all it takes is treating a person like a person. i'm sure this won't be the last time I say that. Hugo also refers to death as "an abyss" here; that recalls "I am reaching, but I fall/and the night is closing in/as I stare into the void/into the whirlpool of my sin". I don't think this is the first time Hugo refers to the unknown as an abyss, either! in this case, it isn't just the unknown of death that the condemned man fears, but likely also the judgment after, which he knows won't go well for him (he's specifically said to be "not ignorant enough to be indifferent"), much like the abyss of Valjean's sin. Myriel sheds light on this abyss ("showed him the light") and teaches the condemned man not to fear death or the afterlife. fascinating also how we're specifically told Myriel stays with the man onto the cart and all the way onto the scaffold, literally accompanying this man to his fate, helping him not be alone to the very last moment.
the upper classes see Myriel's reaction to the guillotine as "affectation" - because if they were to show the same outward reaction, it *would* be affectation for them.
haha hey did you guys know there's a character limit on tumblr posts? because i do now!! so uhh part 2 in a second i guess.

Recently I had a nightmare of everyone around me being part of some kind of cult. Really notably, I desperately went to our mother and she acted incredibly concerned just for me to eventually find out that she was part of it. It was specifically a child exploitation group. Before this point. Ai felt nothing about the concept of possibly being a victim of ramcoa before. The only thing even close to cult like that could've possibly fueled that dream was a game that talked about a kinda ritualistic group, nothing more.
Ever since, I've been full blow paranoid. I can't tell anyone about the dream or the fears I'm having over it because then they'll report me to group. The more I research, the more things line up with my experiences and struggles.
I have no memories, but I've had this collection of unexplained trauma responses. Like, sometimes during breakdowns, our wrists will get stuck together, as if they're bound.
I don't know, I'm rambling but I'm scared cause I don't know where to start for answers. I'd go to my therapist but we're at a rocky point and I've recently lost trust in her. I feel like I'm losing my mind.
TW: IN DETAIL TALK OF ESCAPING A GROUP, WHICH MAY TRIGGER CHI PROGRAMS IN SOME. ABUSE TALK
Okay I can’t understand if you mean that you have this information from a dream, this information from your mother and trauma responses, or both. I’m going to respond as though it was clear you chose the middle.
If you are currently living in a situation that is putting you at risk for abuse I would focus on getting out of that situation. For example, if you are still living with your mother and she is an abuser like she says, I would recommend moving out and not telling her where. Same goes if you are living with any other abuser.
If you absolutely need to escape, if your life is at risk, or if you cannot simply move normally without remaining in the group, here are some escape tips. Only attempt this if you’re a legal adult in your area AND the area you will be leaving for. Also, if you are certain extreme omega will be triggered by this, try to move the “normal way” first.
Moving out can be done when you know the abuser(s) will be gone or unavailable-if they’re at work, on vacation, etc. It’s important to do lots of cleanup before you leave, as it’ll make it easier for you to do so. I’ve heard of people trashing their room (if it’s safe) and passing all the clean up off that way. I’m pretty sure U-Haul is cheapest in terms of cargo add-ons for cars, but you can decide if you wanna use that. If you don’t have a lot of stuff to take a packed car or a van will work fine.
I know it may be hard, but don’t take your phone. Get a burner or stay tech-free until you can get a new electronic.
If you need to cook, bring a bowl, other cooking supplies, and something like a hot plate. Public water fountains and some ramen can provide easy food. A fire could work but you’d need a legal place to start it.
Save up money. You could take on a bunch of odd jobs, mow lawns, do chores, get a job and make it clear it’s temporary, etc. If for some reason you can’t work set up a go fund me for something inconspicuous like “a new phone” or something believable to both internet goers and irl people-lie, especially if your worried about group members finding the page. (Don’t exploit human rights go-fund me’s such as Palestinian evacuations, though.)
Getting money could also contribute to you purchasing a tent or even apartment if you get a lot. Go to a camping ground far away, unassociated with anyone you know.
Keep mind if you get reported missing you can pass it off as a rebellious act and say that you’re an adult so you can make your own decisions.
If you are worried about a group tracking you, don’t share any identification in spaces where you are talking about your RAMCOA. No irl name, no face, no age (other than maybe if you’re a minor), no state/county, hell even no country if you’re really worried. Don’t show any pictures of others in your life either, such as friends or pets, it could be traced back to you.
Also, I’m only mentioning this since you say you’re paranoid, but you could be experiencing psychosis. I’m not gonna say it’s likely or unlikely, but I would recommend checking for markers of psychosis and if you check boxes using psychotic grounding techniques.
Sorry if this was a long-winded rant. I just want everyone to be safe. Hope this helped.
