Yu-Gi-Oh! Seto Kaiba Poll
Image References to All the Outfits and My Own Thoughts Are Below the ‘Keep Reading’ Cut-Off:
1. Duelist Kingdom

2. Domino City Museum (Pre-Battle City)

3. Battle City

4. KC Grand Championship

5. Dark Side of Dimensions (Movie)

———————————————————————————
My own thoughts are that I absolutely loved him in the Duelist Kingdom outfit because that’s when I really started to like him. The Battle City outfit became his iconic one. And while I didn’t list it, it was also his outfit for the Pyramid of Light movie. I figured since I was going to list Dark Side of Dimensions which had the same outfit there was no point listing Pyramid of Light too. I listed DSoD because of the drastic improvement in animation as well as all of his extended technology and features (abs), and it somehow felt like the outfit had more clarity. It’s also important to note that DSoD is different because Seto doesn’t wear Mokuba’s necklace around his neck. I think my personal favourite has to be his Domino Museum outfit though. I don’t know what it is but that coat just looks so cool on him and the way it fits with the metal bands on his wrists gives it such a classy feel. His suit for the Grand Championship was awesome too since it was one of the few times you saw him without his coats. It makes you remember that he’s a proper CEO as well when he’s not spending his time dueling!

This is one of my many many favorite Yugi and Atem brotherly moments in the show with the dub.
Yugi so desperately wanting to save/stop Joey/Jonouchi from having to duel Marik., asking Atem to save him. And Atem firmly saying that they needed to let Joey do this on his own.
Like the way he says “Yugi” both times with such firmness and conviction, shows how much of a big brother/guardian role Atem plays in Yugi’s life

Reason why I love Dub over the Sub?
The characters feel like people in the dub rather in the sub.
Like from what I have seen, the sub more or less treats them like characters rather than people. They don't sound like actual people, but characters. It isn't bad, but it isn't good either.
In the dub, call their dialouge cringe all you like it, but it feels more natural and they even give them flaws, minor or not. Heck, there was a whole ass conversation about how hot dogs should be cooked and one of the characters straight up said, "Seriously, you are triggering me." Hell, Yusaku in the dub once burned down Kolter's kitchen.

Out of curiosity, what did you think was so bad about the zexal dub?
Ok I wanna preface this by saying that I am no purist, and I'm no weeb. I speak both english and japanese semi-fluently, and can tell you that for 99% of anime, the english dubs are fine, in terms of acting and general quality. I will defend the original yugioh DM dub and the GX dub until the day I die, and think that the sizeable part of the yugioh fandom that wants to discount or disregard them are plain wrong. I love them to death and think they're a valid way to watch the show and get the same story as the originals. And if you like the Zexal dub, then absolutely slay, queen. Yugioh is fun, and not something to be taken super seriously, so everything I'm about to say is gonna be pretty pedantic, and only pertains to what I like to get out of yugioh, and my personal enjoyment of the franchise. That being said, after watching the entire first half of it, the Zexal dub is just... bad.
So a lot of yugioh dubs changed some material, or story elements, even beyond normal censoring. But the Zexal dub just blatantly changed entire thematic elements and washed out whole character arcs, and the societal commentary the japanese dub made, which was shockingly based, got extremely watered down. Worse, the stuff they got to replace it just feels... stock. Like the way they translated the the dialogue, ESPECIALLY from the antagonists, made it feel generic, lacking the nuance that the Japanese version had. Like you could say similar things about the GX dub, but at least they kept the charisma of the characterization that GX is famous for, as well as the charm and humor. And also unlike GX, and least forgivable of all, the acting just isn't good.
Say what you will about 4kids, but the voice actors were pretty good at what they did. Things like Joey's brooklyn accent or yugi's big deep voice are iconic for a reason, you know? Hell the 5Ds dub is practically carried by Greg Abbey as Yusei. But zexal's actors, I mean I don't wanna be mean to them but they're just not doing a good job, man. Most of them sound cloying, forced, uncanny in the worst way. There are exceptions, Astral and Kite give pretty good performances, but the rest just grate on my ears and take me out of what little story there is left.
It's the only yugioh dub that I couldn't finish. I had to give up on it because I was not having a good time with it, and for the first time, felt like it was getting in the way of me enjoying the series.
No shade to anyone who likes it, because I can see getting attached to it if you grew up with it, and think that Zexal is a good enough series that if the dub doesn't bother you, you could get an equally good experience from watching it. And hell, the dub soundtrack lowkey slaps, and the opening is one of the best 4kids ever did! But it's a hard pass for me, fam.

I’m gonna be honest, the only censor of 5Ds to actively annoy me so far is in Crashtown when they cut the part where those kids’ father explicitly let go and fell to his death. Because I seriously had to go and check the sub to understand the scene, which is exactly what started my frustration with Yugioh dubs to begin with. I’m still gonna stick with the 5Ds dub until the dub’s end but that is a frustrating scene.

The SEVENS dub doesn’t have a cringy dub OP, and that legitimately bugs me.
Like, this is the one series you could totally get away with it, and you go instrumental? Lame.

I often wonder how many people actually know the reason why the cards get changed in the dub- because I didn't for awhile.
For awhile I just chalked it up to an odd quirk- and hey it means they don't gotta try and translate/edit all that text - ngl I don't mind the look.
But truth is its not like 4kids purposefully changing it cause lazy or something. They're changed- to this day because they have to do it.
They legally can not keep the cards as due to FCC regulations -movies being in their own special category so they can get away with it.
So even if everyone at 4Kids/4KMedia wanted to leave things as is they can't.
---
Now does it excuse how sloppy some of those edits are or how they manage to edit in the wrong card in- somehow. No.
Benefit of the doubt it probably happened out of being rushed and perhaps some just not caring enough to double check cause gotta get them episodes out.

Yugioh rant
The censorship of Tori and Zuzu was hypocritical compared to how they kept tea and alexis. But also...WTF WAS WRONG WITH GAGAGA GIRL. THEY TOOK HER EXPOSED ARMS. ARMS ARE NOW INAPPROPRIATE. Also, Zuzu's skirt was fine, they didn't have to BADLY PHOTOSHOP it.. They let Tea have thigh high socks, why did they give zuzu tights.

The dub rlly hates character development huh, and this isn’t limited to just YGO this happens in a lot of dubs.
In the original version the characters go through well done character development, but in the dub they have the exact same personalities up til the end, unless there is a big change in demeanor that was shown in the original but even then they still barely act that different. :/
I get that the dub is made for kids, but kids aren’t that dumb that they cannot understand that a character’s personality or demeanor can change.

Early 2000s 4Kids: "heheh 220 Yugioh episodes? No biggie. We'll dub them all! Not only that, we'll also commission Studio Gallop to provide us with MORE episodes AND a movie😎😎😎"
Late 2000s 4Kids: "g-guys we're ngmi, you know what just skip S4 of GX and start 5Ds already...you know what, just stop with 5Ds and get started with Zexal already so MAYBE we can AT LEAST keep dubbing yugioh with this technicality🥴🥴🥴"
