Millers girl, makes me laugh so hard. every one of those actors have the fakest southern accent and I can't unhear it. This was such a provactive movie and I loved it. I love most any thing that provokes controversy. It's so intriguing, it makes you think. My three braincells get a real workout jumping through hoops.
Tumblr media
I did love the commentary of teacher student relationships. The difference between Cairo and Winnie was palpable and I ate that shit up. It was every Wattpad girls wet dream. It checked all the boxes that it needed. Plus the writing was ugh, so good. It was almost like a different language listening to this movie. I would never recommend this movie to just anyone though. It's for sure out there.
this is what i wish they could do with The Secret History. Provocative, sensual, students that can't see their own faults. Preteniousness. (god I can't spell. but i refuse to spell check)
What I selfishly love most about it, Cairo is the writer I always thought I'd be. Intense, metaphoric, eloquent. I am my best writing self with a prompt. Crippled in a way. Unable to write without some provocation. I also can never complain about sensual writing. It speaks to me on another level. I love smut in a simialr way. just the pure intensity of it. to string together words that'll make most tremble in their boots into something beautiful. Ugh, amazing. I applaud every smut writer out there. (Yes every single one). Trying is half the bit. the hard bit really.
what else can I say for this movie other than: It inspires me. More than anything. It inspires me to never settle for mediocrity. in myself and others. Sorry, didn't mean to get all school assignment on y'all.
I could write like that. yet I never know what to do with it after I write it. where does it live?

I am a certified hater of many a merch for fandoms. doesn't matter the fandom, the type of genre, franchise. Some, nay most merch is actually hideous. So far Box Lunch hasn't been a total let down, they really nailed those race car style jackets they got going on. Some of the studio ghibli carigans leave something to be desired. Now am I creative enough to create a design. Of course. I'm just not talented in creating it in the way I want.
Yes this was brought on by Bridgerton x Target (i think) collab. I wanna like it so bad. I want bridgerton merch to wear. yet, I never find any.... that live up to my standards. I want something that I can wear out and about in both daily life and to say an Anime con. I want to have a plain MSBY Black Jackals Sakusa sweatshirt I can wear to an anime con when I don't wanna get dressed to the nines in a cosplay. Or a Bridgerton sweater I can wear just out and about on the town. Even, a subtle team edward from twilight hoodie. It's all I want in life.
to be a nerd in public while wearing cute clothes.... again, that live up to my standards. And now to prove myself, I will do my best to post a picture of try one of creating said merch. I've hyped myself up too much, now I gotta prove it. to who? no one but myself.

I got a new job, so activity level will be lower. However, nothing can stop me from yapping to y'all? the void? Before i get started, any of y'all try white rice and spicy tuna. The texture is so, hm, chefs kiss. I have no one else in my life that loves tuna. hence this little blurb before I get into it. Anyhow do let me know if any of y'all try it.
I love anime. It's always so well done. I of course of a wide variety of animes I've watched, and rewatched. Of course I could bore you all with a long list of every anime i've ever seen... but, actually why not. My top three are a controversial take. Mostly due to me never rewatching. with the exception of Vampire Knight. I've mentioned it before. It was quite possibly the most formative anime of my childhood. (yes i'm a Kaname Kuran girl. till the day I die.) I still watch it every time around my birthday.
Tumblr media
My second two, and yes this is in order; are as follows. Haikyuu, which i never finished. And Say I Love You, which i bought manga for.
Haikyuu is just, there's something for everyone. Do I care about volleyball? No. But I enjoy more because of this anime. Yes i never finished it, but that's a side step. I also enjoy the fact that there's a timeskip and not all the characters end up in volleyball. Don't even get me started talking about my faves in this.
Tumblr media
Say I Love You is such a teen romance anime. It's so good. I did watch toradora and silent voice (i know it's not explicitly romantic but it falls under the same giant veil). Say I Love You is a good stand alone. you can watch and read the series and they both make sense beginning to end. While I like any book to series adapation the series always leaves out parts. This is no exception. They're both pretty good dare i say.
Tumblr media
I of course have a pleuthra of Honorable Mentions yet they never make the top three. My Hero Academia for instance; I loved this series. Watched a lot of it, the new season when it came out. then like most long series I fell off the bandwagon. Which is why I was able to finish other animes ie. Attack on Titan, Stars Align, the like.
Most animes I begin yet never pick back up. Usually only able to watch the first episode maybe two, and never another one. It's just what happens. I tried getting into popular animes, lesser known animes. yet I've only ever finished a rare few.

Objectively a great show is Spinning Out. it's only real negative is the lack of story after the first season. It's got everything a good show that addresses real issues should be. I shows relaspe, real anger, choosing who you actually are over who you think you should be. It's everything a modern day show hopes to be. Plus the actor that plays Justin Davis? Delicous.
Tumblr media
the chemistry between the leads was truly palpable. Reservations turned closeness. Seeing the darkest parts of each other. It's all so beautifully done. I can't find a show that compares to the level of real complexity. It's something else entirely.
Tumblr media
Now I've watched many a show, shows so bad they're good. Geuinely good shows. Number 1 issue I come across every time is the age range. Shows that are too mature for children, and shows too immature for adults. This is right in the sweet spot. There's real issues painted age apropiately for the intended main characters age and the actors ages all well. It's so well written, the full package really. it feels real, tangible, feasbile.

mini update for y'all. the tearsmith book finally came in the mail. my god I can't wait to crack it open. Unpopular opinion, I will dog ear my books, write in pen, messily scrawl all over them. Intentionally crack the spine, violently. not gently. Some (my friends and many of y'all I assume) take great care and pride of their book collections. I praise them because that'll never be me. To me books are meant to be read over and over and loved. and yes, that's the way i show my love. My so far all time favorite book A Certain Hunger is well loved. I've annotated it twice, once in black ink and tabs that mean something I can no longer decipher, and the second in red ink. I think purple for my third read through of it. Anyways, wish me luck on reading this, it's much thicker than I anticipated. (hehe phrasing)

I am all for consuming content. Creating it, reviewing it, consuming? It's something I believe we all love. Of all the mediums I am a firm believer that Fan Fiction is the best. I may be biased as a love to read. But for those that love to watch and hear media. Fanmade edits are the top tier of those for me.
Tumblr media
I think what makes fan fiction so good is two main reasons. Expanding upon a well loved character, and reading about them in their entirety. No cuts to different characters, it's just about them. I know everyone has their favorite sites. AO3, Wattpad, Tumblr, the big three. (I think, someone do correct me if I'm wrong.) Do comment your pipeline. Mine is pocket writers-quotev-wattpad-AO3-tumblr. Which is an oddity to be sure. Most go wattpad to AO3. Not me. Which is how I know I'm weird ngl. Has anyone even heard of Quotev?
Anyways, Fan fiction is the best medium. I think mostly because I love to read more than anything. This does bring me to say, I wish i could be a writer in the way that I could write fan fiction. i always get lost just shy of the ending. I never finish it. Which is a pity because I'm the type that'll say, "If you can't find it to read it, write it." Yet I can never find the write string to words.

does anyone else think about the Vampirism to Cannibal pipeline? Or am i just psychotic?
I see so much (occasionally) cannibalism poetry. It's metaphor bridge to sex, selfishness, over consumption, even as a love thing. It's beautiful I won't lie. Some of it. Those that understand the depths of it and can spin this horrible thing into lines of beauty. They have talent.
I think it's their shared senusality and devotion. To eat your lover, drink their blood. I'm sure some of yall have seen those videos of people getting vials of their lovers blood. Hell Mary Shelley herself with her husbands calicfied heart.
Tumblr media
I think it's the idea of being disturbing and off putting to others that draws us regular folk to ideas like that. Yet deep down it does in fact disturb us. Those of us that are disturbed find it infitnetly facsinating. What we should find fascinating is a dictionary. (I can't spell. usually I'm really good at it, but lately? Sheesh)
Anyway, where was was i? Yes, the pipeline.
For most of us, it's loving vampire shows as kids or teens. Mine was Draculaura from Monster high. Next is picking up Tender is the flesh because of what you've heard of it. then it's a deep dive into all things cannibalism. Nothing can compare to that all consuming need. If you're more of a tradionalist, I'd say Frankenstein, or Dracula. But alas, it's only speculation.
Tumblr media
It's an odd thing to think about, but Vampirism isn't all that different from Cannibalism. It's a venn diagram of sorts.
Similarities includes: -Consuming part of a person -Uncontrolable "hunger" -All consuming want -It can read as sensual -Horrifying after three seconds
These are just off the top of my head.
Will I still read books on cannibalism and watch vampire shows? Yes. Yes I will. I eat that shit up every single time.

If there's something I love it's horrible movies. Movies so conceivedly bad that they're comedically good. They're not expressly meant to be funny. They're just movies where shit happens in it. And there's gotta be something said for this genre of misfit movies. They're still in line with movies like Thirteen, Girl Interrupted, in that they're fucked up and not a movie you'd show to a new group of friends. or even close friends. this is inner circle level. Horrible movies are in the same vain. Only if, you're a weirdo. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who lives those cookie cutter sorts of lives.
You gotta be wondering by now what fucking movie am I talking about? Well,
Tumblr media
It's this movie. I came across it on Hulu eons ago. I made my step brother watch it with me for the sole purpose of feeling as gross as I did. I suffered, so should he. The worst part? It doesn't get fucking weird until the last half an hour/twenty minutes. So here you are invested, you kinda wanna finish it that's how late it goes into it. You'll regret it to be sure.
It's movies like this that give me purpose. My purpose is to show other people this fucking movie so they live with the same knowledge I do. Which is: What in the fuck knuckles did I watch? Who cleared this? Who wrote this?
To that I say, "now you know"
And this friends is why I'm not allowed aux, or picking the movie priveliges. I will pick some psychotic as shit. For my birthday I watched Jennifer's Body for the first time.
I am crazy, but I am free.
Second thought, Zoey Deutch, lead actress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look me in my eye and tell me they don't look alike. above is Haley Lu Richardson. Which was why I watch flower in the first place. I thought I was watching her. Either way, love Zoey Deutch. She's an icon. To me.
(Side note, I loved five feet apart. It's what the Red Band Society tried to be.)

Something about vampires, I don't know if it's the age I grew up in. Or genuine interest and love for vampires. But by golly I fucking love vampires.
In almost any media context I love vampires. I am currently reading, Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda simply because it's vampire themed. Twilight, the Vampire Diaries, Shadowhunters, Vampire Knight, some episodes of Supernatural. I love vampires. Lore, history, stories.
I should preface, so long as it's either tasteful, OR (as seen in my choices), it's so tacky, it's good. I will argue, Vampire diaries has the best ~lore~ about vampirism. Do I think it should be as long of a series as it is? Oh god no. But the lore is peak in terms of the Vampire content I consume. I will say though, Vampire Knight has a strong aesthetic foothold. It could be the style of anime, the "costuming" but it simply is better in the aesthetic department.
Twilight. oh good god. Twilight is a mix (for me), of Vampire Diaries, Tortured Artist TM, Vampire knight. In the funniest way. it has a better styling of "we're techincally dead. frozen in time." there's a lack of warmth, and a strong design of hollowness that resonates in them. I do like how they unintenitionally write them as being the age they are "frozen" at. Solely because it makes sense. The lore is, ugh. But it has moments of clarity. just moments. Let's not give Stephanie Myer too much credit.
Tumblr media
I do enjoy when Vampires are made to be "monsters". Why you ask. Because they are. If not for them being argubly the most humanoid monster out there. THEY'RE STILL MONSTERS. When Supernatural had them grow rows upon rows of teeth when they smelt or tasted blood. Shit was horrifying. As it should be. Edward Cullen shouldn't ~Sparkle~. They're nighttime creatures. they should burn in the sun like in the Vampire Diaries or in (I think Shadowhunters does this too).
Tumblr media
I fear we as a society stopped growing for the better when we made Vampires hot and have them prey after actual 18 year olds. it is the obvious choice at times. Vampire hold a certain unnattainable sensualism about them. Untouchable, graceful, elegant. They are in my opinion, one of the best things to come out of the monster world.

I too am victim of falling for any broody, dark hair, boy. What can I say, a girl knows what she wants from a young age. Because I am the target audience, I came across "The Tearsmith".
Tumblr media
It's. it's so bad it's good. It's not bad in the way the After triliogy by (good god by Anna Todd was it? Fuck is i know) This was bad in a, "i-felt-like-i-was-watching-an-unintentionally-softcore-porno" way. I will make the leap to Netflix's Baby but as a movie.
I don't watch many foreign anything. Aside from Kdramas, they have my whole heart and then some. the secondary one i find myself watching the ost is Itailian. I don't know what crack they put in it. It's always an Itailian drama.
Even better this movie is also in book form. Which I bought of course. How could I not? I am the horse that is lead to water and drinks. I do hope the book is infinitely better than the movie, as the movie has several plot holes, or jumps that simply don't make sense. Furthermore, I bet the ending would make more sense. It won't feel as unfinished as the movie does. I could argue that this would be a great mini series.
Either way BIONDO, is so delicously hot.

if there's one thing i love it's talking about Bridgerton. don't worry, you'll get used to it. one day.
today I want to talk about book vs show and the changed Edmund dying. And how, they made the right choice.
To begin in the books, Eloise was with her father in the greenhouse. he died unexpectdly from a bee sting. she sat with him banging on his chest willing for him to breathe. and then it was never mentioned again in her story. Literally, maybe once toward the end. Whereas in Anthony's book, it's his main topic of conversation. It's why he chooses to mindfully pursue Edwina, it's why he couldn't connect with Kate, why he refused love despite clearly being in love.
In the show, Anthony is with Edmund when he dies, (the same way). and his pregnant mother goes to him. Now this storyline makes way more sense. I know it could've been a random thing Julia Quinn did. but she never used it in Eloises storyline. seriously. In anthony's it makes it that more stronger. in the show, and book, Anthony never grieved his father dying. "Cursed to remember every waking moment" he tells his mother. while I believe The Viscount Who Loved Me was stronger in book form, you can't really tell the story of grief Kate and Anthony go through as easily in show form. Even with what they showed in Anthony's journey with grief in season 2, it's likely to get swept under the rug again and again.
Which is the true crime here. Overall, I won't say I enjoy all the changes in the Bridgerton show, but I will say some of them make more sense than not.

Plain Bad Heroines is Emily M. Danforth's second book. Published in 2020. My lord it's long and increasingly confusing.
Tumblr media
the whole book is centered around what happens to Flo and Clara. But what really happens them? I couldn't tell you. The book really follows is it two or three separate storylines. The movie that's being made, and what happened in the aftermath of Flo and Clara, and I wanna say what happens to the lovers at the school. the teacher and the principal I believe.
In many a way it's similar to The Secret History in it's style, story telling, and long ass paragraphs. it's been a while since i've read the book cover to cover. It's one of those books you want so badly to read and reread. but is it really? I can't seem to find the strength or pull to pick it back up and reread it. a shame really. It could've been excellent.
It's one of those books that would be made into a halfway decent series given the right writing, cinematogrophy and the works. in truth though, I'd want the story to focus on Flo and Clara for once. not on the aftermath, not the love story, not the movie, but on Flo and Clara.
writing this has inspired me, however, to reread the book. or at least listen to the audio book.

I loved twilight. I admit it loud and proud. Whilst i have many an opinion on twilight and it's filming, what could've been made, directors, casting, plot line, and everything in between. It's a well made franchise.
Tumblr media
It was marketable, a highly anticipated release, unironically comedic, I ravish it's unprecedented, comedic, and unbeknownst intense mormon-ness. Myself, along with some of you (i hope) I didn't know it was heavily mormon-ified until much later in life. (as in maybe a year ago).
I could truly go on and on.
matter a fact. I will.
I suppose I'll begin with it's contents. Make no mistake, Kristen Stewart was an excellent choice for Bella. not just in the way it's written but portrayl as well. she was awakard, funny, unsure of herself. She felt things. and that's the most important for an actor to portray that many don't. They need to feel. not show or know they feel. simply feel. which is hard to explain i acquiesce. Moreover, I did enjoy the change Stephanie Myer made: changing it from two books, to four books/five movies. I felt it flowed much better for story telling, there's was more drama and character building. Now that's the way to do it.
Speaking of it, the characters. This band of characters that we grow with in the movies make the movies better than just okay. my personal favorites include Rosalie, Alice, Emmett, and Jasper. (The back up band). They're much more interesting, crafty, and downright entertaining than the Jacob, Bella, Edward mix. I do believe as fans we headcanon them better and funnier than Myer ever intended. what can I say, even I appreciate a good fan fiction.
Tumblr media
However, my gripe is that Catherine Hardwicke didn't do all the movies because by god I wish she did. the care and love she treated Twilight won't ever be seen again in the Twilight universe. oh how i long for Catherine Hardwicke to redirect the Twilight series. Or to go back in time and tell her to do all the movies. However, the book she came out explaining the twilight movie. My lord does she make a girl swoon.
in order my favorite movies are: Eclipse, Twilight, Breaking Dawn Part 1, New Moon, Breaking Dawn Part 2. (really new moon and bdp2 tie for last/i don't care about them) It really could've been a trilogy series but I guess new moon and bdp2 add something to it. what that could be i dont know.
I digress, signing off

it took me about five months to read the secret history by donna tartt. It was a book I wished i loved but in truth I couldn't love it as fully as I hoped. while Donna Tartt is by all means a wonderful writer i found her book, long. more than anything.
Tumblr media
Reading this makes me wish with everything i have it's turned into a movie. Because it really would make for a good movie. The pretenious, pompous characters can be 3 dimensional instead of flat. all the side characters can come to life even more. most importantly, we can get away from Richard's three page monolouge about his not so secret feelings about Henry Winter.
I really wanted to love this book. It was just the type of plot i would be into. Sly, mysterious, comedic, taking place in the beautiful new hampshire. instead it feels hollow. the greatest shame in my opinion, is to have that thick of a book, and have it say close to nothing. The plot is amazing, a true story telling book. instead it's a 600 page book written as if she was paid per page.
Tumblr media
(ps. not my artwork. I just be googling shit)
While perhaps it's me, the reader for not understanding it's true potential. Since it's truly hypocrtical of me to dislike this book but thoroughly enjoy A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G Summers who in all fairness does a similar thing. taking one moment and spinning eight metaphors. well in truth, i skip some of them. However, when it's practically the whole book? it's nearly impossible to skip it. I can't tell what the bigger shame is. The fact that i'm a hypocrite, or the fact that I couldn't enjoy this book. i think the latter more than anything. Because my god did I wish to enjoy this book.

if there's one thing i love it's a good show. as television declines, i find myself attaching onto nearly any show that's bottom line mediocre in it's writing. House of the Dragon, Bridgerton, hell even Law and Order SVU. Be sure we'll get to the others soon, today. I have a gripe against Bridgerton.
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong, I'm in love with it. There's something to say about good worldbuilding, and Bridgerton does it well. You're swallowed whole by the show in the best way. It's a well done show. However, when you adapt from a book to a show, everyone will have something they hate about it.
"it's not book accurate" "The characters aren't right" "It's not even historically accurate"
And truth be told, they're valid arguments. I get it. Especially the character thing, and the historical accuracy. And a secret third option, using the other books that exist in the same universe!
In the books, you make up in your head what they look like, yet all the Bridgerton siblings look the same. "Dark chesnut hair" is the most used description. Although, the show did good in differeing Daphne and Francesca, it breaks up how they appear, instead of a wash of similar actors you get a, oh god I hate to say this word, but diverse group of siblings. However, having Violet be a more reddish brown (she was dirty blonde in the books), would be amazing. I digress and bow to the casting director for choosing Ruth Gemmel, she embodies Violet Bridgerton to a near T.
Tumblr media
My main issue with historical accuracy is that hollywood doesn't care. It's nice when they take more care into to purposefully making it seem more historical based. God, Pride and Predjudice 1995?? Stunning, Fabulous, I'm so in love it's seeping out of my pores, it doesn't work for Bridgerton. Bridgerton is truthfully a fantasy, casually set in Regency England. The books take a skinny slice more historical accuracy, not much. to me, perosnally, It's really a fantasy romance; therefore, i can slightly forgive how accurate it is. The costuming is by far the most glorious of it. I really want a behind the scenes in making this solely for the costume designs.
I have read so much of this series. All 8 in the OG Bridgerton set, the prequels, and the first book for the smythe-smith (smith-smythe? smythe-smith? I can't remember). The writers had a real chance of sprinkling in this lore of the Rokseby's and the smythe-smith (they did in queen charlotte, that's a whole other thing), and they didn't. It would be such an amazing easter egg to see it done.
Tumblr media
AND ANOTHER THING
Julia Quinn's book series, as books would translate terribly onto film if done, scene for scene, line for line verbatim. the only reason it worked for pride and predjuice, is that it was done to a near complete T historical accuracy. (is it fully accurate, no of course not. but damn if it ain't close.). in the first season, the reason why it is the way it is, about 75% of julia quinn's book is smut. season 1 is formatted pretty close to the books. even the books themselves don't have much of a difference in format.
Exhibit A: in the duke and i, about halfway through the book, they get married and the issue of children comes up, and it's all internal thinking done by the characters. which is why what happens, (it didn't need to) but it gives more insight as to why everything happens and how it's resolved. which is why for season 2 they switch it.
Exhibit B: we as viewers flock to rewatch season 2 over and over before considering season 1. season 2 has a stronger B plot (The featheringtons), more filler scenes, and it uses the shitty 8, hour long episode structure better.
Exhibit C: it morphed from a book to screen from season 1 to a drama in season 2. which makes for a better story structure, that's what film is for. To be a tv show, not a book. yes be accurate, but, the truth is, book to screen content exist as a multiverse. NOT an accurate retelling. thinking of it that way is better for your brain. Yes anyone and everyone could sit and talk for hours, and for me days about the inaccuracies, but at some point you gotta except it's a multiverse, not the same thing. and sometimes, it's better that way. (other times not as much, which is my theory on why season 2 is much more different between book and movie)
