You Saw Beyond- Part 5
AN: Hello again! Yes, this is the chapter that the title came from, one of my favorite scenes in the show. It's a bit short but I like keeping the chapters based on the songs. My last day of class is tomorrow so I should have more time to write. Also, I'm going to see Doctor Strange tonight, so I am very excited!! Here is the link to all the chapters!
Tumblr media
You walked him into a fancy store he had never been to before. It was glowy, almost a heavenly space. Everything was placed perfectly into position.
“Isn’t this great? You can almost feel the halogens warming your skin.” You sighed. This was clearly a happy place for you. You ran over to a table. “Oh, I can’t believe it!” Edward followed behind you. “Love!”
“What?” He stopped in his tracks. Oh god, this was bad… He couldn’t let you know this just yet. He was just some creepy nerd who tutored you. You wouldn’t-
“New Chanel perfume! It just dropped yesterday.” You were oblivious, thankfully. Edward let out a sigh. “I’m getting sidetracked. Let’s focus on you. Think of the people you want to impress. Just trust me.” You marched over to the men’s section.
“It’s getting harder to.” He joked as you picked up a folded shirt. You held them up to him comparing the shades. Meanwhile, Edward was all up in his own head.
What does she want from me? Does she just want me to be her dress-up doll? But she is so genuine… How could she do that to me?
You grabbed his arm and pulled him over to the ties. You lifted them up again.
How come I can never say no to her?
You picked up a garish pink tie.
“That I don’t like.” A black one. “That’s pretty nice.” A very loud yellow one. “Hard no.” Then you pulled up a light green tie. He scrunched his nose. “That’s bright.”
“Please, it looks good on your skin tone.” You begged.
“What the hell!” He threw his hands up in defeat. “Whatever you want.”
“Yes!” You cheered. You ran off to grab a few more shirts and ties and a jacket before you pushed him into a changing room. “I love shopping for guys.” You said from the other side of the door. “It’s always so much more of a transformation, watching you change.” Edward sputtered out a laugh.
“Please don’t watch me change.” His skin went red as he pulled on the pants.
“Ha, ha.” He assumed you were rolling your eyes at him. “You know what I mean, dork. A good suit and tie can do wonders.” His eyes caught the price of the suit.
“Holy shit, is this the price?” He gawked, slipping it on.
“It’s my treat! Are you dressed?” You asked. Edward opened the door and you stumbled into the changing room. You had been leaning against the door. He caught you, standing you up. You blinked up at him. “Woah…” You grabbed his shoulders, turning him around to look at the mirror. Edward didn’t recognize himself. He felt professional and dapper.
“Yeah… Woah.” He felt like a lawyer. He grimaced a bit. “I look like Bruce Wayne.”
“Yeah,” You processed what he said, but your face turned down into a frown. He felt tight, so he unbuttoned the jacket.
“But it’s just me.” He sighed, putting his hand in his pocket. Your eyes sparkled at his words.
“Exactly, that’s the best part. You get a fancy new look, but you are still the same Ed underneath. I mean couldn’t change the real Ed if I wanted to.” You punched his shoulder lightly. He feigned pain. “I don’t want to change you, Eddie.” You were looking at him now. He liked that nickname. He remembered that the adults in the orphanage used to call him ‘Eddie’ and he hated it. It made him feel so small. But with you, it was endearing and kind.
“Thank you.” He turned to you. He meant it with every bone in his body. “Thank you for this gift.”
“No, thank you. This isn’t a gift to me, it's payment. You’ve done so much for me. You believed in me, which is the best thing a girl could ask for. You saw beyond all of the hair and makeup and decided to help me. That’s more than anyone has ever done.” You told him, your eyes were soft with affection. You pulled him into a hug. Edward didn’t know what to do with his hands. You were pulling him in so tight, it was like you were trying to squeeze the words into him. You pulled away and gave him the up and down. “We have to buy this!” You turned him to face the mirror. “You look hot!” You smiled. “I’ll meet you at the register.” You winked, before exiting the dressing room.
He thought back to your words. People did treat you as some dumb girl, hell, he almost did. But there was something about you. You didn’t treat him like some gum that had gotten stuck on your stiletto. You were kind, and you cared so much. He caught a glance of himself in the mirror before leaving the room. Why did you choose him? This isn’t the kind of guy he would’ve chosen to be. He walked out of the changing area to see you at the register. You waved at him. He trusted whatever you had in store for him. After all, you hadn’t been wrong yet.

You Saw Beyond- Part Four
AN: Hello! Sorry for the late update, I had senior prom and all the drama that comes with it. I will be posting a masterlist soon so all of the chapters can be organized nicely. It really does make me happy to see all your nice comments and messages. I enjoy writing and I'm happy you enjoy my writing <3
Tumblr media
“It is nine in the morning, why are we watching National Geographic?” Harvey Dent groaned as all of the interns sat on the couch. Falcone pressed pause, the TV freezing on a red-headed woman holding a potted plant.
“This, Mr. Dent, is your client. Mrs. Pamela Isley Anderson. She is a TV personality who has made tons on her shows about gardening.”
“Hey, I know her!” Harleen interjected, “My mom watches her shows all the time. Yeah, Sexy Seeders!” Bruce and Harvey let out a little chuckle. You were unfazed by the topic.
“You can laugh boys, but she has been accused of murdering her 60-year-old husband. Her step-daughter caught her covered in his blood. She claims she did not kill him, but refuses to give an alibi.”
“Did she?” Selina asked.
“Well let’s just say Pamela is popular for her love of violent plants. It’s not out of the question.” Falcone moved to put the remote down. You raised your hand excitedly. “Hands, who think she killed him?” Edward watched as the whole group raised their hands and yours shot down. “Great. Here’s where you come in. Pamela has… trouble trusting me. I don’t speak her slang, but you kids do.” Your hand shot up again, but Falcone waved you off. “So what I need you to do is convince her to share her alibi. To the jail.” The group stood. Edward kept his eyes on you. It was so odd to see you in business attire. You looked so out of place. Edward also noticed how you hadn’t said anything to anyone after your rejection. But he couldn’t keep thinking about you like this, he had the case to focus on. At the jail, he approached Pamela.
“Mrs. Anderson? I’m, uh, Edward Nashton. I’m co-counsel with Falcone for your case. I also brought with me our interns. These are the real cream of the crop from Gotham Law.” He stuck out his hand to her, to which she just glared. “Ah, alright.” He coughed. “We’d like to discuss your case with you. We want you free as soon as possible. That way you can bring your message back to your fans.”
“Well, that’s all I really want.” She crossed her long legs.
“Perfect. We just need an alibi.”
“No can do.” She shook her head. “Put me on the stand and I’ll be forced to lie.”
“But, what about a plea bargain?” Bruce interjected.
“That’s cute,” She taunted, “Do time for someone else? No. Way.”
Selina spoke up. “With a plea, you would only do a couple of years. That’s pretty reasonable.”
“Not really.”
“Wow, what could be so bad that you can’t even give your alibi?” Harleen gawked. She always said that was off the top of her head.
“Sugar, you have no idea.” Pamela stood from her spot at the table. “Now get out of here. I want a legal team who is actually willing to help me.” She shooed them away. Edward turned around, defeated. The rest of the team followed suit, except for you. Edward watched as you approached Pamela.
“Ivy?” You asked hesitantly.
“Oh my god, you follow me?” Pamela’s tough exterior dissolved, giddily smiling at you.
“Totally! You helped my bamboo sprout, Fabio, go from a shoot to a shot!” You fangirled. Edward had no idea you were such a fan of Pamela. Why hadn’t you mentioned it soon-?
Falcone.
“That’s amazing! At least someone on this legal team gets me.”
“Of course, I believe you didn’t do it either. I mean there’s no way you would shoot someone. If you did kill someone, you would be more creative. And you wouldn’t get caught.” Edward thought about what you said for a moment, you were right. The motive was clear, but it just didn’t seem like the kind of kill the plant lady would go for. Edward watched as your conversation became more hushed. Pamela was spilling something to you. You pulled away from her and held out your pinky.
“Promise?” She asked.
“Your secret is safe with me.” The pair of you locked pinkies. Edward was shocked. You had won over their client with a short conversation. You were incredible. Falcone pushed past him. Edward followed.
“Where’s Pamela?” He asked harshly, it was his fault he was late.
“The guard took her away.” You said. Falcone’s face started to fall. “But I got an alibi!”
“Great! What is it?”
“I can’t say.” Your face fell. The rest of the group came into the room again.
“What?!” Falcone whipped around to look at her.
“I swore not to tell.” You looked around at the rest of them for a bit of sympathy.
“Y/N, this isn’t a little pinky-swear thing,” Selina said, arms crossed.
“You’re so right, it’s a big pinky-swear thing. I mean think about it, Pam isn’t guilty. She’s the queen of plants. Plants are proven to make people subliminally happier! And happy people just don’t murder their husbands.” You smiled sincerely, but Falcone was having none of it. He turned over to Edward. Shit.
“Edward - a word.” He motioned for them to walk over to a separate corner. “Edward, I gave you two tasks. I was very clear. Lead the legal team and get me an alibi. You are zero for two.” He didn’t give him a chance to speak before turning around to the group. “Field trip over. Get back to work.” They moved to the door but Falcone turned to stop you and Edward. “Not you two. I don’t want to see glasses or legally dumb again today.” And they were left alone. You turned to Edward.
“Eddie, I’m so sorry-” He wanted to believe you and how important this was to you, but you weren’t showing it. Maybe you were just like those mean girls. Using him.
“I don’t need you to be sorry, I need the alibi.”
“I can’t! Having an alibi isn’t the only way to win a case.”
“No, but it would help us win.” He was getting angry. You could tell, you put a hand on his arm.
“We have to do this the noble way.”
“This isn’t about nobility! We are trying to save someone’s life.”
“Are you the one who was all about nobility? Now here you are, just trying to impress Falcone.” You shot back. So this is what it was like to be on the other side of your fervor.
“He’s my boss!”
“A great boss who wants you to jeopardize your client's trust and integrity?” You poke his shoulder. He was taken aback by your actions and words.
“Well, when you say it like that…”
“Exactly, dork. My word means something, just as much as yours.” You softened up, noticing he was getting it. You nudged him towards the door. He looked at his feet as he followed you, thinking.
“No one has called me a dork since 8th grade.” He muttered, not hurt, just surprised.
“Maybe not to your face.” You giggled. That should’ve hurt his feelings, but it didn’t hurt coming from you. You made it sound like some silly thing that had happened to him. You made it all feel like a coming-of-age movie.
“Why do you always have to be right?” He slumped his shoulders as they walked through the parking lot.
“I’m not all the time, just whenever I’m with you. Come on, let’s go.” You grabbed his arm and pulled him across the street.
“Where are we going?” He was helpless to you, not because of his lack of strength. No, he could easily overpower you if need be. But you had entranced him.
“I love your little grunge-y nerd look happening here, but cargo pants are so not lawyer chic.” Your hand had slipped from his forearm to his hand. You were heading to the mall.
“Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to judge a book by its cover?” He chuckled.
“Yes, but I don’t like to pick up tattered books, do you?”
“Heh, thanks. Really sweet.” It was his turn to roll his eyes. She was mean, but she was right.
“The world isn’t perfect, you know that. I’ve been judged my whole life, too. I had to change my pink to navy.”
“You’re right.” He sighed, trying not to focus on how sweaty his hands were getting.
“I know.” You smirked.
“Where are we going?”
“You said you trust me, right?”
“Yes,”
“Then don’t stop now.”

You Saw Beyond- Part Three
Here is part three! It's super short (sorry) but things are kicking into high gear. Also please let me know how you are feeling, I love reading your comments. If you haven't seen the Legally Blonde Musical, I highly recommend you watch it so so good. <3 (Happy Holidays to all who are celebrating btw!)
Tumblr media
You were glowing as you and Edward walked on the Gotham Law campus. You had just helped an ex-foster kid with their legal issues and you were feeling on top of the world. He was so proud of you, watching you stand your ground. You were a force to be reckoned with. Edward was more excited to see your nasty side. The way you had stood your ground against those nasty defense attorneys. It was incredible. Sure, they had mocked you at first for your clothes and upkeep, and he saw it get to you. However, with a little nudge, you came back full force. Edward wished he could’ve taken a picture of their faces. It brought him so much joy to watch them get taken down from their pedestal. It made him all the happier that it was you doing it. You were Gotham’s finest, waiting to take the stage.
“Hey!” Barbara shouted from the Law building’s door. “Falcone posted the internship!”
You didn’t seem to care, shrugging it off. But Edward had already started walking towards the door. He looked back at you.
“Come on!” He motioned. You rolled your eyes, as you always did, and followed him along. You reached the crowd of students around the bulletin board outside Falcone’s classroom. Edward didn’t know why he didn’t send it in an email, but Falcone didn’t seem like the most technologically savvy person. Maybe that was why he kept him around.
“Yes!” Selina cheered as the crowd of disappointed students dissipated. She grabbed Bruce’s hand and kissed him on the cheek. “I told you we’d get in!” Bruce smiled back at her.
Edward watched your face fall. It hurt his heart to watch you go from so excited and feeling like a real lawyer to being reminded that the reason you were here didn’t even matter. You pulled the sleeves of your jacket down, almost trying to hide. You deserved so much better than Bruce Wayne, but you couldn’t see that.
“Nashton!” Falcone called out his name, pulling his eyes away from you.
“Yes, sir?” He adjusted his glasses.
“Get a suit, I’m making you co-counsel on the Isley case.” Falcone patted him on the back and handed him a file. Edward nodded, opening the folder. He scanned the names on the internship list. Wayne. Kyle. Gordon. Dent. Quinnzel. L/N.
Wait.
He closed his file and ran over to the bulletin board. He ran his finger down the list of names. Bruce Wayne, Selina Kyle, Barbara Gordon, Harvey Dent, Harleen Quinnzel, Y/N L/N!
“Hey, um, Y/N?” He called over to you, but you didn’t budge. “Y/N!” He called again, louder. Still no movement. Edward sighed. He marched over to you, grabbed your wrist, and pulled you to the board.
“Ed, what the hell?” You asked angrily.
“Look.” He pointed at your name on the paper. You stared at it. You blinked and blinked again. “Uh, Y/N?” He asked. You were in an expressionless trance.
“Pinch me.” You muttered.
“What?”
“Pinch me, Christ, I must be dreaming!” Your eyes were still on the paper but your hand had a strong grip on his bicep. He reached over and pinch your hand, to which you squealed and pulled away. But you still had that smile on your face. “Oh Eddie, this is so exciting! You as the co-counselor and me as the intern. We are going to have so much fun!” You pulled him in for a tight hug. He shakily put his arms around you.
“And you can be close to Bruce, too.” He was trying his hardest to be positive. You pulled away.
“Oh, yeah.” You had an odd half-smile on your face. A lightbulb went off in your head. “Excuse me while I…” You moved towards Bruce and Selina. You had that air of confidence back in you. “Hey, guys!  You smiled, it was an evil grin. “I am sooooo excited to be working with you.”
“What?” Bruce raised his eyebrows. Selina also looked taken aback.
“On the internship, duh. I’m working on it. This case is gonna be so fun.” There you were again. All bite with no bark.
“Oh…” He trailed off.
“See you!” You waved, sauntering back over to Edward.
“Monday, nine o’clock.” He told her. “Don’t be late.”
“Are you kidding me, Eddie? I’ll be there at eight!” You squealed. “And, and,” You paced around, “I wear a black and white suit and look professional.” You fanned yourself frantically. Were you getting sick?
“Are you okay?” Edward asked. You grabbed his shoulders harshly and stared into his green eyes. You could probably see his soul, his thoughts.
“No, I am so much better! This is so much better than I could’ve imagined.” You shook him a bit, Edward’s glasses falling to the floor. You slowly bent down to the floor to pick them up. Unfortunately, his eyes trailed on your butt.
No, no, no, no, no.
He closed his eyes, focusing back in on his excitement for your sucess. He peaked open his eyes again, greeted with your mischievous grin. In another moment of realization, you tongue stuck of the corner of your mouth as you slid his glasses onto his face.
“Uh, thanks.” He whispered. You gave him a closed mouth smile.
“Of course,” You stared into his eyes. You two just stood their for a second, before something came to your mind. “Oh my God! I have to call my mom!” You hand clasped over your mouth. “I’ll see you later!” You cheered, leaning in and giving him a kiss on his cheek before running off.
“Yeah… bye.” He murmured. His hand rose to his cheek where you had kissed. It was an odd form of affection that you had never shown him before. Not that he minded. No, he didn’t mind at all. He shouldn’t have been overthinking this but it was hard not to. You were, well, you. How could he not be obsessed with you? And he was going to see a lot more of you. Monday. Nine o’clock.

You Saw Beyond- Part Two
Hiiii! Thank you so so much for the positive reception on the first part. I had loads of fun writing it! Here's part two, based on the song Chip on Your Shoulder. I love love love this song. Let me know if you have any requests or questions! <3
Tumblr media
Edward had decided to take a walk around campus. It was a nice night, and it wasn’t like he had friends to talk to. However, something else caught his attention. Sniffles came from one of the nearby benches. As he neared it, he realized it was you in a scandalizing pink bunny costume. You looked like something out of Play Boy magazine. He wasn’t quite sure what to say.
“Y/N, what’s up… doc?” That last part slipped out, a blush growing on his cheeks.
“Hey, Edward.” You sighed, trying to wipe your tears from your eyes. “Just love… you know?” You shrugged, pouting.
“No, I actually don’t. Love lead you here?” He moved to sit next to you, trying to keep a foot distance between you. He didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.
“I’m like a total laughing stock. I’m flunking out of school. I have absolutely no friends, no chance with Bruce. At this rate, I’d be happier if you just picked up a rock and hit me on the head.” You threw your head into your hands.
“Wait, wait slow down.” He put his hands up, trying to process everything you just said. “Are trying to tell me you came to Gotham Law to follow Bruce Wayne?!” He was genuinely shocked.
“Yeah, I thought we were going to get engaged and I could live my dreams as a fashion designer for celebrities. But now look at me!” He was looking at you, really focusing on your face. He noticed the pretty pink eyeshadow across your eyes. Even in the dull lamplight, it shimmered. “I mean be honest with me, Ed, am I crazy for thinking he’d fall back in love with me if I came here?” Edward bit his lip. He could lie to you, but he knew that lying never helped.
“Y/N, you stalked some guy to an Ivy League and you expect him to just fall back in love with you?” He scoffed. You didn’t seem hurt, so he continued. “That is probably the weirdest reason I’ve ever heard-”
“Well, why’d you come?” You asked, crossing your arms. You did it at first to make a statement of defiance, but he could also see the goosebumps on your skin. You were cold, but you weren’t about to tell him that. Edward was also taken aback by your question, thinking about it for a moment.
“Huh, why did I come?” He asked himself out loud. “Well, Miss L/N, I grew up in Gotham City’s Orphanage.” He told you, beginning to shed the green cardigan he was constantly wearing. “Saw kids die from the cold, drugs, or just straight up getting beaten.” He placed the cardigan over your shivering shoulders. Your face was understanding, listening to what he had to say. “I’ve seen the worst ways the legal system can treat kids. So I got through Law school by busting my ass day and night. I worked two jobs just to pay to go to classes.” He was sitting a bit closer now. “So please, forgive me for not weeping at your tale.” He motioned to the little puffball on your bodysuit. You rolled your eyes at him. You didn’t appear to be mad, considering you pulled his cardigan closer to your body.
“Well excuse me, just because you have a chip on your shoulder-” You said. It could’ve been a rude thing to say, but he liked that you challenged him to explain why he was like this.
“You know, I do have a chip on my shoulder. And if anything, I’m gonna let it drive me to be the best I can. If it’s gotten me this far, then I can’t see where it takes me. You might want to get one, too, Miss Lola Bunny.” He poked your shoulder. He didn’t know where this confident side came from, but you brought it out of him. You listened to his little rantings more than anyone else ever had. Maybe he had found a friend.
“Eddie, that sounds soooo negative.” You bemoaned, holding out those ‘o’s again.
“You asked me to be honest!” He put his hands up in defense, which made you giggle. “I wasn’t born into the privilege of a rich family. I have to work twice as hard.”
“Wait, rewind. Did you say you worked two jobs?” She asked, very shocked. He would’ve stuck up his nose to any other rich snob like this, but you were different. You had clearly lived in a bubble and he was your first look at the outside world. You could be the difference. “How do you do it?” You were genuinely curious, your whole body facing him.
“Well, I don’t go to parties. It’s not like I get invited to them anyway, but besides they're not a good use of my time. I don’t spend hours on my appearance.” He motioned to you.
“Clearly…” Ouch. He deserved that one.
“Still, it will all be worth it when I win my first case and get to put one of those losers in jail where they belong. Help out those kids they lied to.” He felt your hand on his arm.
“That’s really sweet of you.”
“No,” He placed his hand over yours, “See, that’s the chip on my shoulder.”
“I just need to prove to everyone that I am serious.” You said, jaw tensing.
“What you need to do first is get inside. You’re freezing!” He helped her up. You wobbled a bit before almost tumbling down. He held you in his arms as you began to cry again. “Where’s your dorm?” He asked, and you pointed to the nearby building. He helped you along, finally letting go when you unlocked the door to your room. Your tears had finally dried.
Your room was very… pink. He should’ve expected this from you. You walked over to your closet, closing the door. You were probably changing out of your costume.
“Make yourself at home!” Your voice was cheery.
He took in the surroundings. The last girl's dorm room had been nothing like this. No, last time it was some smarty pants academic who wanted him for the Falcone internship. He let it happen, of course, but this was so different. He noticed the pink Monster cans in the trashcan.
“Drink a lot of caffeine?”
“It gives me energy!” You cheer, proving the effects.
“I’m more of a Mountain Dew guy, and I drink to stay up studying.” He moves closer to what could’ve been a desk. It was covered with pictures of you with your friends and family. You had that bright, kind smile. And then there was that picture of you with Bruce. You two were in a hot tube together. Your hand was on his muscular chest. He picked it up to look closer. “Speaking of studying, where are your law books?” He asked, still staring at the picture, trying to erase Bruce Wayne in it with his mind.
“It’s um… it’s under… well it’s under…” You muttered, finally exiting your closet in a bright pink tracksuit. You were scouring your room. “There!” You pulled the books out from under your bed. Edward sighed again. The plastic wrap was still on. Every moment you tested him a little further.
“Been reading this hard…” He mumbled, not intending for you to hear.
“Ugh.” You rolled your eyes, turning away from him.
“Uh oh, the room just got colder.” He teased. You gave him a light slap on the shoulder, moving to sit down at your desk.
“Let’s get started…” Through the months, Edward for some reason kept coming to your dorm room. Every time you pissed him off with your privilege, he just felt the stronger urge to help you realize the potential you had. You were so unlike the rest of those snobs. You were willing to learn.
“Y/N!” He called, drawing your attention from Bruce, who was outside with Selina Kyle. “Define Malum Prohibitum.”
“Malum Prohibitum is…” You paced around your room, which was a bit messier since had first been there.
“An action-” He tried to help you but you cut him off.
“An action prohibited by law!” You shouted back, a grin painted on your face.
“So Malum in se-” He continued.
“Is an action that’s illegal in itself! Assult, theft, murder, that green sweater.” You pointed at his sweater, causing him to laugh.
“Very good.” His eyes drifted to your bag. “Where are you going?” He raised an eyebrow, setting down the notecards.
“Home, duh.” You said matter-of-factly. “It’s Thanksgiving.”
“Uh huh.” He nodded slowly, moving to stand. You stopped him, putting a hand on his chest.
“What? You’re giving me that look again.”
“Well, I think you’ll pass…” He folded his hands behind his back, moving to pace around the room.
“Awesome!” You cheered, pumping your fist in the air.
“In the bottom percent of Falcone’s students.” Your face fell into a frown. “Look you’re going for okay, then you’ve done great. But if you want to do better, your vacation plans may have to go on hold.” You stopped your foot on the floor.
“Ugh, why do you have to be right?” You flopped down onto your bed.
The gears finally switched in December. He approached your dorm room, present in hand. He watched as you leaned out the door, wishing Bruce a Happy Hanukkah. Edward pushed that little green monster down into his stomach. Bruce Wayne was the only reason you were here and asking for his help. You left your door open, you were studying with a friend. He leaned in.
“Ho, ho, ho!” He tried at his Santa Claus impression. It was awful, but it still made you laugh.
“Edward!” You grinned, “This is my friend, Barbara.” He gave the red head a nervous wave. She returned it with a beaming smile. He turned back to you, holding out the small bag.
“For you. I know you wanted to go home for Christmas, but I did the best I could.” You took it from him as he adjusted his glasses. He watched you eagerly dig through the box.
“Eddie, you are two sweet!” You pulled out the piece of clothing at looked back at him. “You’re sweater?!” Your jaw was slack.
“You wear it so much, I thought I’d just give it to you. Although you did call it ugly that one time…”
“No, no, I love it. You are so adorable to think of me.” You held it closely to your chest, breathing it in.
“Oh shit, I’ve got to go! Nice meeting you, Eds.” Barbara said before leaving the room. She bumped into an unwelcome face on the way out.
“Hey, Y/N, have you seen Selina?” Bruce Wayne leaned in the door frame. He was wearing his fancy winter coat that probably cost more than all the clothes on Edward’s body.
“Yeah,” She smiled, eyes dazed. “I mean, no, I um, I haven’t.” She shook her head.
“Great…” He sighed, before leaving the door again.
“Uh, Y/N?” Edward stepped forward. You were still staring at the spot Bruce had just been in. “I hate to say this but I think I’ve noticed something.” He waved his hand in front of your eyes. You suddenly came back to reality.
“Huh? Did you say something?”
“See that’s the thing. Whenever Bruce is around, your IQ drops. I hate to say it, but the real thing in your way might be the guy you came here to impress.” You blinked a few times at him, trying to process what he just said.
“Oh my god!” You grabbed onto his shoulder violently. “Eds, you’re so right! I need to show him I’m serious! I’m not gonna doodle hearts to get my law degree, I have to use my… my chip on my shoulder!!” Edward was a bit terrified at your fervor but he was excited. You finally understood. Now it was your turn to shine. And he saw it the first class back from break.
“I think he was very much within his rights to ask for visitation. I wasn’t stalking at all. After all, the child in question would not exist without his sperm.” Bruce explained.
“Now you’re thinking like a lawyer, Mr. Wayne.” Falcone smiled. Edward, however saw your hand in the air, a bit timid, but there nonetheless.
“Professor Falcone…” He pointed to you. Falcone looked over at you.
“Miss L/N?”
“Mr. Wayne makes an excellent point, but did the defendant keep a long of every single sperm emission made?” You scrunched your eyebrows, almost asking the question to yourself.
“Why do you ask?”
“Well, unless he tried to make contact with every single one of his sexual encounters to find if a child had resulted from those unions, he has no parental claim over this child. We should, then, be asking ourselves why this child? Why this sperm?”
“Interesting-” He started to say, but you cut him off.
“And, by Mr. Wayne’s standard, all masterbatory emissions not seeking an egg could be called… reckless abandonment.” You put a lot of emphasis on the last two words, really selling it.
“Miss L/N, I believe you just won your case.” Falcone smiled. Edward wasn’t sure the last time he had seen him do that. You smiled back, just as brightly.
After class, Flacone stopped you and congratulated you. He wanted you to apply for his internship.
“I’m way ahead of you, Professor.” You pulled a pink (shocker) piece of paper from your backpack. “Thank you for your consideration.” He nodded and you winked at Edward before walking out.
“Dear God, it's scented.” Falcone groaned. “Put this on file.” He handed the paper to Edward. He looked down at it. Months ago, he thought you were going to leave the school, and here you were, one of the top students in the law class. He was thankful, thankful he had taken a chance on you. He was thankful he hadn’t judged you like the rest of your classmates. No, you were different. You treated him like a human being. You listened to his advice, but also gave some of your own. You were smart, and he wasn’t sure if you knew it. You were different. You were a breath of fresh air hidden in the smog. He knew you would never like a guy like him, and for some reason, he was okay with that. You were his friend, and that’s all you were ever going to be to him. Although, you never can tell…

You Saw Beyond- Part 1
Here's part one to my Legally Blonde Edward Nashton x Reader mentioned in this post! I'm going to be following the beats of the musical specifically because I love it so much. Anyways, please enjoy <3. I have another Edward piece in the works that my friends have been beta reading.
Tumblr media
“Hello, I’m Edward Nashton. Welcome to Gotham Law School. I’ll be showing you around. Why don’t we all go around and share a bit about ourselves?” He looked around at the group as they began speaking. It was the usual suspects. Some rich computer science nerd who wanted another degree, a royal douchebag, and a very aggressive protestor who believed she could change the world. He sighed and rolled his eyes. No one of interest. That was until you walked up to the small group. You were doused in pink, head to toe. It almost hurt his eyes. He swore you were a lost tourist who had stumbled upon campus.
“Hi guys, is this small group number 102?” You asked with a sweet smile, your lip gloss shimmering in the sunlight. You looked like a high school bully. That smile was fake to him, hiding insults behind the gobs of makeup that you were probably wearing.
“Yeah,” One of the students answered.
“Awesome,” You sat down on the grass, moving your legs to the side. Edward coughed.
“Um, why don’t you introduce yourself?” Nice. Real smooth.
“Well, my name is Y/N L/N. I love the beach and shopping, and my favorite color is pink!” You smiled again. Edward could’ve sworn he was in a dream, he almost wanted to laugh. But he didn’t. He just smiled and nodded.
“Right, thank you, Y/N.” He pulled his messenger bag strap closer to his chest. He glanced down at his watch. “Uh oh, look at the time. We better be getting to first period. What is everyone’s?” Everyone rose from their spots, Edward especially keeping his eyes trailed on you.
“Criminal Law 101 with Professor Falcone.” You say, and Edward almost falls over. He only half hears everyone else say ‘same’. Oh my god, you are going to get eaten alive. He thinks to himself but says a simple ‘follow me’ instead.
The group started to head over to the building where Falcone’s class was. As they entered the building, you must have spotted someone you knew. You instantly started brushing your hair back behind your ears and pulled your lip gloss out of your purse. Was a purse all you have? No books? Christ… As they entered the classroom, he watched you beeline to your person of interest.
It was none other than his worst enemy, Bruce Wayne. The brooding rich boy who got everything he wanted in life was not only here at Gotham, but also in the law program? He was screwed. But how did you know him? You bump into him, clearly on purpose to any outside viewer.
“Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry!” Your face feigns shock. “Brucey! I totes forgot you go here!” You place a hand on his bicep, covered by its usual black hoodie.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?” Bruce looks genuinely shocked. Edward feels like he’s watching a bad reality TV show.
“What Gotham Law? I got in. It’s not like it's hard.” You shrug nonchalantly. Before the show can continue, someone clears their throat. It’s Professor Falcone.
He began to go into his classic schpiel for the first day of class. He liked to scare the students. It wasn’t something that Edward was particularly fond of, but as his assistant, he kept his mouth shut. He didn’t want to risk the career he could give him. Falcone went on insulting the students, asking them questions just to embarrass them. Edward tried to hide the pit in his stomach. He enjoyed watching the popular stuck-up people get berated, but something about the power imbalance just… ticked him off. And then he called on you. You, for some reason, had your hand raised eagerly.
“Ms- uh?”
“L/N, Y/N L/N.” You beamed up at him, not prepared for what he was going to throw at you.
“Yes,” He sneered, “Can you please summarize the case of Metropolis vs Kent?”
“Oh…” You pouted, “I just wanted to ask if you allow glitter pens?”
You are a goner.
“Hmm…” Falcone hummed to himself, turning towards his desk. He picked up the roster. Edward knew what was coming. It had happened to him last year.
“Ms. Kyle?” He looked up, the hand that raised was the pretty lady with cropped hair next to Bruce Wayne. “Now, let’s say you are in a situation where one of your students, of your highly esteemed class, doesn’t do their homework. Would you let the student stay-”
“No,” She scoffed, “I’d throw her out.”
“Alright, Ms. L/N comma Y/N, you heard your classmate.” He looked at you, his jaw stiff. Falcone meant business. You didn’t believe him at first, almost cracking a smile. You quickly realized just how serious he was. You gathered your belongings (which was just a small purse) and left the classroom. Edward got up from his spot, following you out the door.
“Hey!” He called after you. You turned around when you had reached outside.
“What?” Tears pricked your eyes, it took him aback. He swallowed his pride and walked over to you.
“I got kicked out of Falcone’s class on my first day, too. I promise it’s not the end of your law career.” He pulled his messenger back tightly against his green sweater again. Your gaze made him nervous.
“Law career?” You said, shaking your head. “Sooooo not my problem.” You approached him, putting your hands on his shoulders. He tensed up. “Listen I need to get back into class with Bruce. Can you please help me?”
“If you do your reading… sure.” Edward gave a weary smile. He reached around your arm to adjust his glasses. “Why does Bruce Wayne mean so much to you? He’s just like every other rich boy.” Your face fell, and you relaxed your arms back at your sides.
“Bruce and I used to date…” You pressed your lips together. “He dumped me.”
“Oh…” He muttered, sorry he asked. “Well, he doesn’t deserve you.” He gave you the best smile he could muster.
“Thanks.” Your eyes were soft, kind. “Oh my god! I’ve gotta run!” You began to quickly head in the direction of the dorms. “Thanks, uh- shit! I don’t know your name!” You stopped, shouting at him.
“It’s Edward!” He shouted back.
“Thanks, Eddie!” You winked, before heading back on your trek. He sighed to himself. Maybe you weren’t the dumb mean girl he thought you were…
