I’m still not over how, from jackson’s perspective, he told everyone “hey maybe you shouldn’t take holt to vandalize the normie school” and then immediately woke up in jail

last night i had a dream where gerard way was invited to sing the national anthem at some football game and when he sang it he wore a white dress with blood smeared all over it and on the chest area of the dress it said the t slur in black ink and halfway through the song he took off the dress so it was him shirtless in shorts and everyone was so weirded out but i thought it was the hottest thing i’d ever seen

Fuck it I’m going to talk about my feelings about the Little Mermaid remake. (Or what we know so far since it’s not out yet.) BTW heads up, I am a white woman. If you’re flat out tired of white opinions on this, I completely understand and there’s no harm done if you decide to keep scrolling. That said, I love, love love what I am seeing so far from Halle Bailey. If you don’t know, the original Little Mermaid movie is older than I am. Ariel was my idol pretty much from birth, and is an incredibly impactful and important character to me. The movie has pretty much defined my aesthetic tastes as well as my personal sense of style. I had the Tour of the Kingdom song playing during my wedding ceremony.
Tumblr media
Ariel isn’t just important to me based on what she looks like however. Her determination to chase after the life she wants and loves despite the disapproval and rejection of her father is something that I’m sure a lot of us can relate to. Ariel is a commonly misunderstood character. I see her criticized from all angles that she threw her identity away for a man, that she’s shallow and doesn’t appreciate her family, that she is just a damsel in distress. And I’m pretty sure these braindead takes come from the same people that will pull some random red-haired actress and claim that she should have been cast as Ariel instead.
Tumblr media
Congratulations on remembering nothing about the character besides her hair color. I hate most fan castings. A lot of them pick one superficial trait about a character and then they pick out an actor that either played a similar role or has that trait. It got us Emma Watson as Belle (because Belle and Hermoine Granger are totally the same character anyways, right?) and would probably have Tom Hiddleston as everything else if fans got their way. The horrible adaptation of Belle kind of hurt but Belle is not the most special icon from my childhood. Ariel is. And Ariel is a curious, passionate and loving character. Even before Eric enters the picture, Ariel has her interests and does not dial it back. She likes what she likes and wears her heart on her sleeve about it. It comes out in her smile, it comes out when she sings. And when I heard Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel the first thing I did was look her up. And I saw her singing.
She’s got it. Every quality I adore about Ariel is naturally shining through Halle like the sun through the ocean’s surface. Honestly I wouldn’t have cared if they kept her hair red or not, if they changed her tail, it doesn’t matter. (Not that they did the character design is almost identical.) Halle nailed it.
Tumblr media
I’m glad that they cast based on Ariel’s spirit rather than what she looks like. I’d rather she be brought back as a breath of fresh air rather than something stale pulled out of the attic because they’re too scared to change anything. And as far as the race thing goes, I’ve always been drawn to feminine fantasy. Unicorns, princesses, mermaids, the whole shebang. It kills me out there to know that there’s young neurodivergent girls out there that want to embrace fantasy but are under the impression that it’s not for them because they’re black. I’d rather the door be opened for those kids so they can maybe dream of being a mermaid when they grow up. Or know that if they want to write a book about a black fantasy princess they’ll have an audience. (Or if they want to be an anthropologist since Ariel absolutely is one.) TL;DR Fuck yeah Ariel was my princess and I am thrilled that more people might have an opportunity to connect with and see themselves in her. And maybe take up mermaiding one day IDK.

Disney Princess Asks: Ariel
• Q: Favorite thing about her? A: Her zest for life and wanderlust. She dreams and she yearns and she REACHES for it. She makes mistakes along the way but in the end, she’s pretty much always right. She also represents fangirls/autistic people everywhere by having a collection devoted to her special interest and geeking out over a statue of her crush, similar to me and my Gerard Way cardboard cutout.
• Q: Least favorite thing about her? A: She’s a bit too reckless, she was willing to make a deal with the devil, essentially. But that’s what’s kinda cool about her. Also this isn’t really a her problem but she was SO sexualized by movie critics when ‘The Little Mermaid’ first came out, it was disgusting.
• Q: Do I like her movie? A: YES. Favorite princess movie ever. Getting every scene tattooed on my ass. I could write an essay on it.
• Q: Favorite outfit she wears? A: Pretty solid tie between the outfit she wears on her day out with Eric and the blue-purple sparkly one that she wears for five seconds when she rises out of the water.
• Q: Favorite song from her movie? A: ‘Part of Your World’. Can’t go wrong with it, it’s poignant, beautiful, it’s hyperfixating and being fascinated with something and loving it all in one song. It’s the emotions of loving something, being shamed because of the strength of your love for it, and the resilience to continue loving it (fellow autistics will know what I mean). And my favorite person of all time aka Howard Ashman wrote those raw as fuck lyrics and I’m forever grateful to him for that.
• Q: Favorite animal (or human) friend she has? A: Sebastian! He’s just so fun, I love his love for Ariel and he reminds me of my dad.
Q: Which trait of her personality do I most see in myself? A: Like…everything. She is me and I am she. We both have special interests and get so excited about the littlest things and we dream of a world that embraces us and we and we and we…
• Q: How would I rate her prince? A: LOVE Eric! He’s a cutie pie and I love Max. He’s a sweetheart and a musician like what more could you want. No wonder Ariel left her whole family for dick (yes I know it’s more layered than that you’re talking to the #1 Ariel fan).
• Q: Where does she rank on my top 10 favorite princesses? A: She’s #1, for all time, forever and always. ♥️

Disney Princess Asks: Aurora
• Q: Favorite thing about her? A: Her VOICE! Mary Costa slayed. Those high notes and warm tones and biting elegance, ugh, love it.
• Q: Least favorite thing about her? A: No agency whatsoever. Yes, she sacrificed her home life for the greater good but overall she’s not given much to do except be less of a character and more of an object.
• Q: Do I like her movie? A: Yes, yes I do. Beautiful animation and that SCORE makes me cry. It’s moving art.
• Q: Favorite outfit she wears? A: Her peasant dress! I love the silhouette, her princess dress is a bit too flat for me.
• Q: Favorite song from her movie? A: ‘Once Upon a Dream’. I love the melody and it just sounds like an old lullaby which makes it seem that much more special when she sings it in the woods.
• Q: Favorite animal (or human) friend she has? A: Does Merryweather count? I love her, she’s feisty and so much fun.
• Q: Which trait of her personality do I most see in myself? A: Her love of nature and dreaming about hot men.
• Q: How would I rate her prince? A: I think this might be the only instance where I prefer the prince to the princess. Phillip is a KING, he’s funny, cheeky, he slayed a dragon and he just seems like a happy-go-lucky dude who knows when to step up.
• Q: Where does she rank on my top 10 favorite princesses? A: #9, but we love her!

Disney Princess Asks: Cinderella
• Q: Favorite thing about her? A: Her sarcasm! Probably not a very popular answer, but I adore Cinderella’s snarky comments that she makes about her stepfamily and towards Lucifer. I also LOVE her voice, it’s so elegant and warm and motherly and gorgeous, Ilene Woods (RIP) should just narrate my life.
• Q: Least favorite thing about her? A: She’s kind of helpless during the final act of the movie, so much so that two mice save her. I wish she’d been able to escape by herself, but it does show that even the strongest of people need help sometimes.
• Q: Do I like her movie? A: YES! ♥️ It’s so heavenly, pretty, I have very special memories associated with it and it reminds me of my grandparents. If it was the only movie I were allowed to watch for the rest of my life I’d be fine with that.
• Q: Favorite outfit she wears? A: Honestly, her blue nightgown! It’s so cute and I ADORE her braids, I wish she’d worn them longer.
• Q: Favorite song from her movie? A: ‘So This Is Love’. It’s short but so beautiful and lovely, the animation during it is stunning. I also adore ‘Oh, Sing Sweet Nightingale’, the scene of her singing it in all of the bubbles is my favorite part of the whole movie.
• Q: Favorite animal (or human) friend she has? A: Gus-Gus is my favorite sidekick ever. He just tries his best, he slays, he’s spirited, adorable, would lowkey die for him.
• Q: Which trait of her personality do I most see in myself? A: Her sarcasm and her talking to herself in order to get through a task.
• Q: How would I rate her prince? A: Awful man he’s so boring. The sequels made him iconic but I don’t count the direct-to-video movies as canon. So I think he’s just super boring and so disrespectful of the girls who are curtsying to him like dude at least pretend you’re into it. Cindy deserves better.
• Q: Where does she rank on my top 10 favorite princesses? A: #6, but I adore her.

Disney Princess Asks: Snow White
• Q: Favorite thing about her? A: Her positivity! I love how she remains hopeful even in the darkest of circumstances. It truly helps me throughout my own life. I also love her 1930s look, those lips! that eyeshadow!
• Q: Least favorite thing about her? A: Probably that her goals are pretty romance-focused. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that but I like my princesses with a little more ambition.
• Q: Do I like her movie? A: Hell yeah I do. I love the old gothic aesthetic, I want to live in the dwarfs’ cottage, and I think it mostly holds up. A groundbreaking yet totally sweet film.
• Q: Favorite outfit she wears? A: Her classic princess outfit but specifically with the cape, it’s such a look. You’d think with the color combo and style it’d come across as a bit clownish but I think it’s lovely.
• Q: Favorite song from her movie? A: ‘With a Smile and a Song’. Positivity anthem, so cute, really displays her values outside of wishing for a prince. ‘Remember you’re the one who can fill the world with sunshine’ could go on an inspirational cat poster (though that line has admittedly made me cry).
• Q: Favorite animal (or human) friend she has? A: Dopey! I would die for Dopey, he’s my favorite dwarf and he just speaks to me ngl. Love his bond with Snow White.
• Q: Which trait of her personality do I most see in myself? A: Her positivity, general attitude towards life, fawning over cottages and dreaming about hot men.
Q: How would I rate her prince? A: Her prince doesn’t do much but I love him solely because those eyelashes and ruby red lips made him look hella fruity, enough so that I literally refer to him as the ‘fruity prince.’ Also, ‘One Song’ is gorgeous.
Q: Where does she rank on my top 10 favorite princesses? A: #3! She’s my favorite ‘Walt’ princess.

STOP watching film/music/art "criticisms" - they're feeding off of your insecurities
Disclaimer: By "criticisms", I mean those videos where the content creators are just ranting about the works and calling it trash or a disaster, and not giving any sort of constructive criticism.
Literally just a few mistakes in a film or something they don't like in an MV or artwork and those shitheads call it a disaster 💀
They're not even critics anymore; they're just internet trolls that just want attention or views. They're just feeding off of people's insecurities - those who like the things they're "critiquing".
So STOP watching criticisms that feature "(insert work of art) was a disaster" or something like that in their titles. You'll just feel worse about yourself for something so trivial like your preferences or tastes in art.
Don't let these people benefit from turning art into something that starts arguments or feeds off of sensitive people's insecurities.
Those content creators are probably the reason why the Live Action Little Mermaid and Halle Bailey are getting way much more backlash than they even deserve. Don't let social media turn you into a dumbass FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

one of the things i believe in most is that all people should sit down and ponder their gender identity. for as long as you need to, sit down and think about it. have a nice cup of tea while you do it. i have considered my own gender identity many times. gender is a many-layered, complicated thing that plays a role in our society. but i don’t think your gender has to necessarily conform to the rules that certain places have over it. be gay do crime, y’know?
i just believe that whether you’re cis or trans or somewhere in between, think about it. doing this made me come to the realization that i am what certain circles call a demigirl. to be honest, i’m not a huge fan of this word and i’m perfectly fine if i’m simply referred to as a girl. but i truly feel half girl and half something that i can’t describe. it’s almost something cosmic. it’s not something i can articulate beautifully. i don’t know if i will always feel this way but for now i do.
i think gender is meant to be bent and shaped and disfigured. i envision, most of all, a post-gender world. where genitalia is only a signifier of the traits we were born having and have very little to do with how one is socialized. i say we burn it all down.
